Economic Espionage Essay
Economic Espionage act (1996) states that
Whoever, intending or knowing that the offense will benefit any foreign government, foreign
instrumentality, or foreign agent, knowingly without authorization copies, duplicates, sketches, draws,
photographs, downloads, uploads, alters, destroys, photocopies, replicates, transmits, delivers, sends,
mails, communicates, or conveys a trade secret shall, except as provided in subsection (b), be fined
not more than $500,000 or imprisoned not more than 15 years, or both. .
It is important to note that the clause clearly stipulates that the eligible person for the punishment in

According to a Annual Report to Congress on Foreign Economic Collection and Industrial Espionage
(2008), a wide variety of foreign entities have attempted to illegally acquire trade secrets and US
technology a problem attributed to outsourcing research and development. Most companies in the
United States have been encouraging outsourcing research and development as a means improving
themselves in terms of products being universally usable. This has led such companies setting up
bases in foreign countries where such research is carried out. These bases have well been used as a
gateway for economical espionage since foreign entities can easily access such bases and access
information on the said companies or U.S in general. This may be through employees in such bases,
spies or even hacking information systems that are connected the ones in the U.S. Acquisition of
information and technology from such companies has well been used to either disable operations of
such bases or setting up rival companies. It is worth noting that espionage from such bases is hard
trace or quantify. This is because the jurisdiction of such states cannot be influenced or forced to take
measures of such activities due to the nation s sovereignty. Legal cases in such incidents are left
pending for fear of bad international relations and investigations are hardly finished. Economic

Connections Between Aircraft Performance And Propulsion...
13. Aircraft Performance In this chapter we will make the connections between aircraft performance
and propulsion system performance. For a vehicle in steady, level flight, as in Figure 13.1, the thrust
force is equal to the drag force, and lift is equal to weight. Any thrust available in excess of that
required to overcome the drag can be applied to accelerate the vehicle (increasing kinetic energy) or to
cause the vehicle to climb (increasing potential energy). Figure 13.1: A schematic of the forces on an

Darkness And Darkness In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of Darkness
He Spelled Those Around Him Without Realizing That He Himself Had Been Spelled
Throughout Conrad s Heart of Darkness, he proves that all humans ultimately have some form of dark
within their soul. Even through the title one can see the irony between the heart, showing light and
humanity, and the darkness, displaying evil and immoral. The protagonist, Marlow, listens to other
members of the company illustrate Kurtz as both a universal genius (Conrad 33) and as a man with
enough power to frighten the manager (Conrad 37). Throughout the novel Kurtz symbolizes the key
theme of darkness and savagery, contributing to the overarching purpose of conveying Africa s true
environment and impact on humans.
For the majority of the novel, Marlow is yet to meet the mysterious Kurtz. The different, opposing
perspectives of Kurtz s persona cause Marlow to wonder uncontrollably and crave the presence of the
man himself. Marlow practically hears Kurtz even before meeting him: The man presented himself as
a voice... the gift of expression, the bewildering, the illuminating, the most exalted and the most
contemptible, the pulsating stream of light, or the deceitful flow from the heart of an impenetrable
darkness (Conrad 57). Kurtz displays positive qualities while also negative ones; he has the ability to
take control of Marlow s mind without even meeting the former. Marlow expresses Kurtz as having
many possible talents. He has the gift of bewildering, or scaring others into his

Eulogy For Lamson
I strive to be as generous and diligent as my great grandfather, Alfred Lamson. Lamson came from
humble and challenging beginnings. He was born in Lawtell, Louisiana to a farmer turned banker
father and a german immigrant mother in 1917. At the age of one, his mother died; and at the age of
twelve, the Great Depression started. Through these trying times, Lamson found comfort in Boy
Scouts. Striving to be the outstanding in scouts, Lamson attained the rank of Eagle Scout and the
Distinguished Eagle Scout Award in 1931. Aside from these prestigious awards, Lamson also earned
all 47 possible merit badges. I know the true challenge and accomplishments of these awards, as I am
also an Eagle Scout. Earning the required 21 badges for the rank of ... Show more content on

I strive to be as generous as Lamson because I know that there are many things in this world that I
have received that I do not deserve, and I feel like it is my duty to give back to those who are in need
and are less fortunate than me. Currently, I am very frugal and selfish with my money, which is a habit
that I need to break because I internally believe that I should donate money to those who need it more
than me. If I ever become as wealthy as he was, I hope to use his generosity as a guide on how I
should spend my money. His continual giving allowed him to build many relationships and positively
influence others in a way that not many could. Also, I hope to impact others through serving the
community in the way that Alfred did. I aspire to be as diligent as Lamson in work because I have
seen the success that he has attained through simply pushing through tough times with a dogged and
persevering attitude. Lamson s diligence in his occupation and community service truly distinguished
him in his community and field, and gave him many opportunities to give back and help others. In
conclusion, I hope to contain as much generosity and diligence as my great grandpa, Alfred Lamson,
had in his work and service to others. I aspire to have the same work ethic as my grandfather, James

The Reasons of Chinese immigrated to the United States

The Reasons of Chinese immigrated to the United States
Introduction
In China, since the reform and opening up, there have been two waves of immigration in the last
century late 70s and early 90s. With the advent of a new century, China s economy has come into the
phase of rapid development and its informatization construction has been developed at a high speed.
Surprisingly, at that time, there is growing the third emigration which is a larger scale one. Among
these immigrants, the professional elite and the proportion of affluent people increases year by year.
Why do so many Chinese immigrate to US while China is growing fast and full of opportunities? That

In particular, forest fragmentation issues were not involved in the processes of legislation. To date, a
well defined tenure or ownership has not been available for those collective forests in southern China,
and an overloaded forest related taxation still exists for forest farmers. This has heavily undermined
the afforestation initiatives available to forest farmers (Zhang, 2008). In contrast, the USA has pushed
many favorable policies, including an adoption of taxation incentive packages to encourage citizens to
manage forests. A comprehensive system of laws related to forest management has dramatically
advanced forest management levels and led to an overall forest inventory regularly. Beside
governmental supports, various NGO s pay much attention to forest fragmentation issues when
management plans are being developed. Li, Mao, Zhou, Vogelmann, Zhu,2010
In contrast, USA attaches greater importance to the preservation of natural forests (FAO, 2006). More
importantly, the USA tends to pay more attention to technical innovations, as well as efficient and
sustainable forestry practices, to help minimize anthropogenic disturbances to forests. Currently, there
are significant gaps in forestry technologies and administrative philosophy and capabilities between
China and the USA, which are key contributors to different types and levels of forest fragmentation

expenses related to a professionals overhead have a common characteristic in that they are incurred by
the firm on a day to day basis, no matter whom it represents. The traditional way to spread these kinds
of daily expenses among all the firm s clients is for the firm to structure its hourly rates to take such

The Religions Of The Middle East
Abrahamic religions, religions that derive from the biblical character Abraham, have three main
religions in the group. The first, and oldest, is Judaism, founded several thousand years ago in the
Middle East; then there is Christianity, the most popular religion in the world, which was founded
shortly after the death of Christ; finally, there is Islam, the second most popular religion in the world,
founded by the prophet Muhammed in the 7th century ACE. Islam has over one billion followers of
the Islamic faith. Although it is one of the most popular religions in the world, many people do not
know much about what Muslims, followers of Islam, believe in. Due to the rising publicity of militant
terrorist groups in the Middle East, Islamophobia has become rampant in many first world countries.
Although the media portrays violent and barbaric acts performed by militant Muslims, a majority of
Muslims do not commit such atrocities and are wrongly persecuted. Only by educating those who do
not know about Islam, can it be assured that Islamophobia will dwindle.
Islam was founded in Saudi Arabia by a prophet named Muhammed. Muhammed is considered to be
the greatest prophet in the Muslim faith, the second greatest prophet in the Muslim faith is considered
to be Jesus Christ himself. The one main, significant difference between Islam and Christianity is that
Muslims do not see Christ as being the Lord, they believe that only Allah, the Arabic name for God, is
the one, true lord.

than Michael. Now let us talk about Mr. Jackson. With just few albums i.e. 6 he is the second solo
artist to sell most No.1 of albums all around the world. Michael Jackson released albums with almost a
5 years gap and wrote most of his songs. At that time competition was so much and Michael was a
black artist so the struggles were different. Elvis reached his heyday at a different time than Michael
Jackson. He was the biggest phenomenon ever to hit the music scene in his era. With the colossal
success and impact of another cultural presence, Michael Jackson, succeeding and somewhat

Michael Jackson was a talented entertainer who actually studied Elvis and greatly admired him. And,
as we also know, he married Elvis daughter Lisa Marie. Please note that during Elvis lifetime the
United States population was initially 50 million and then rose to approximately 62 million. And yet
Elvis had number one hits for three decades and his live appearance sold out concerts, from 1955
1977, will never be equaled. Even in today s dollars Elvis outsells Michael Jackson. Lastly, Elvis was

The Positive And Political Impacts Of The Olympic Games
The Olympics are a wonderful metaphor for world cooperation, the kind of international competition
that s wholesome and healthy, an interplay between countries that represents the best in all of us, said
John Williams, the composer for theme music for the Olympics (8). The Olympic Games are
international sports festivals that began in ancient Greece. The first ancient Olympics can be traced
back to 776 BC when people held this religious festival to honour Zeus, the father of all the Greek
gods and goddesses. The participants were male citizens from Greece, and these athletes participated
in only one event foot race. Unfortunately, this ancient Olympics did not last forever. The first

The Nazi Olympics in Berlin in 1936 destroyed Hitler s master race history. There was very definitely
a special feeling in winning the gold medal and being a black man, Woodruff said. We destroyed
[Hitler s] master race theory whenever we started winning those gold medals, said runner John
Woodruff (7). John Woodruff was a black man who won a gold medal. Another African American
Jesse Owens won four track and field gold medals. These two people defied the Aryan ideal that Hitler
believed that Aryan dominated the world. Another important impact the Olympic brought happened in
1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne, Australia. In that Olympics, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon refused to
participate because of a dispute over the Suez Canal; Spain, Switzerland, and the Netherlands
boycotted the Games in protest over the Soviet Union s invasion of Hungary; China boycotted the
Games because a flag of Taiwan was raised in the Olympic Village. The original purpose of the
Olympics was to make the countries collaborate, however, it also brought negative impacts. Another
example is that Olympics in Mexico city in 1968. Americans politicised the Games by letting two
African Americans, Tommie Smith and John Carlos, represent the United States. Tommie Smith and
John Carlos placed first and third in the track and field. During their medal ceremony, they raised a

The Law Of Conservation Of Energy
This is my Theory: God desires to be relational and recreate himself, but it can t be done because he
stands alone, omnipotent. So he continuously creates, hopefully lovingly, yet he continuously has to
substitute himself reproducing only himself again. Having beside him... nothing but God. This is why
he is praised forever and ever amen. But why he s sorry when he has to wipe out the face of the earth
with the flood during Noah s time is that he is sorry that nothing is like him. What an honest and
sincere claim for the God of the universe! Yet he strives to still create, loving his creations till
substitution (of himself). Because some of his creation had to be destroyed due to God s desire to be
relational, yet loathe of sin. God can not recreate himself (Law of Conservation of Energy: Energy can
neither be created nor destroyed). There is only one God. That is why there is the law of conservation
of energy the energy therein can neither be created nor destroyed.
This is what I believe. It happens to correlate with what author of engaging God s world Mr. Cornelius
Plantiga Jr. has to say. Plantiga, exclaims that love and hope are the two most pertinent things we long
for as humans/Christians. Is he right? Of course. Can anyone deny when our master Jesus spoke the
two most important commandments: to love the Lord your God with all your heart and to love your
neighbor as yourself? In doing these two things what comes to your life is one everlasting happiness

The Creation of Shelter in Pre-Colonial North Australia...
The Creation Of Shelter In Pre Colonial Far North Australia And New Zealand
Shelter has always been a necessity for mankind. We, as humans, have a relationship with the land that
we must respect to live happily amongst it. Spaning back as far as the pre Colonial Australia,
indigenous Australians understood this connection excellently. Their shelters seemed to bend with the
land as they understood crucial elements within the architecture to compensate for distinctive climate
and cultural factors to fit their nomadic lifestyle. Their living style was very minimalistic yet practical.
The indigenous Australians only built what they needed to survive. For evidence of this, we will be
looking at the text; Gunyah, Goondie and Wurley: the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to conservation of food and environment, their architectural style was also minimalistic.
The far north indigenous tribes of Australia centralised their camps and villages in the proximity of a
running stream. This ensured that their food sources weren t toxic plants, that they had an abundance
of riverine species such as crayfish, eels and fish, the construction of earth oven with river sand and
rock for manufacturing nutcrackers and axes7. These sorts of villages were constructed quite
permanently to facilitate older relatives in a cool and providing place whist other tribe members
continued to move from place to place8. Building near a stream was a sustainable idea as the
surrounding area was far less dense, they didn t need to clear much spaces to build a camp. They
would aim for places with much sun light to escape the constant wet environment of the rainforest.9
They had to take care that the ground was semi elevated to ensure the camp was not flood prone, that
the river they were camped next to would not rise too much. In these base camps, more permanent
dome structures were built. The indigenous understood the different between structures that would
support them for longer periods of time and that of a nomadic lifestyle. Similarly, the early settlements
of the first New Zealanders were often at harbors or the mouths of rivers which were close to the sea.
This provided them with good access to

Healthy Aging In Canada
Aging is inevitable, with age comes certain conditions, and diagnoses that affect healthy aging in
Canadians. In Canada, and across the world, there are institutions that help care for people with these
diagnoses. Nurses are one of the members of the health care team, and they help to try and reduce
risks that can exist in aging Canadians. The purpose of this paper is to explore the risks of malnutrition
in aging Canadians living in institutions who have vascular dementia. Malnutrition and vascular
dementia are serious conditions that do not develop overnight, therefore there are signs and symptoms
to recognize this risk before it escalates. The signs of dementia including forgetfulness, confusion and

A nurse in an institution could use Bevis when implementing the interventions, for example in the first
intervention, helping the resident identify cutlery, show them how to use it, this demonstrates
teaching. (McMahon, 2009). The second intervention is changing the colour of the plates, this uses
problem solving because when the resident is getting distracted then the implementation of colours
can draw attention to the food. (McMahon, 2009). Lastly the third intervention about trying to talk to
the resident s when they walk away from a meal uses the Bevis nursing tool, communication.
Communicating to the resident helps bring attention to back to the meal (McMahon, 2009). When
implementing interventions there are barriers that must be overcome in order to make them effective.
For the first intervention dealing with helping them use cutlery, a barrier can be time. This can be an
issue because care providers may not want to spend the time to properly teach the resident and want to
do it themselves so that it is faster, it is important that the nurses be supportive and patient (McGinley,
2015). The second intervention about the coloured plates can have issues arise regarding money. If it
is easier and more affordable for an institution to only have one colour plates, then having special
plates for residents with vascular dementia could be a challenge. To overcome this, having the family
bring in coloured plates if they are able to could resolve this problem (McGinley, 2015). Lastly,
having a nurse sit with a resident with vascular dementia for the duration of the meal to stop their
wandering could be a challenge because it is unlikely that an institution would be able to have health
care professionals give their complete attention to only one resident. A way to over come this could be
to sit a couple of residents

Racial Conflicts
What is race and ethnicity? Can racial conflicts be eliminated by education? Can there be a time where
one s colour or background did not matter? Every modern day society faces racial conflicts. Humans
are equal, whether they are white or black, etc. Hatred among different racial groups is common in out
modern day society. Ignorance of the equality of every human causes racism. Humans need laws to
follow and the lack of these laws cause conflict between humans. Erin Gruwell was optimistic about
teaching a class of so many different backgrounds but it was much more challenging to get through to
such angry teenagers. Racial conflicts in America include gang violence, and even murder. The
Freedom Writers movie gives a clear description of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rescuing a society from racial conflicts will cause a lot of people their jobs and even their lives but at
the end it will be worth it for later generations. The situation in the film where Eva Benitez has to be a
witness against an innocent teenager to save one of her own is an example of rescuing a society. She
knew that her boyfriend killed the Asian guy but was influenced by her parents and friends to testify
against a black guy who was also a suspect. With time, Eva realized that a criminal must be found
even if it was someone she loves and that made her tell the truth to the judge about who killed the
Asian guy.
Another example of the ignorance of the equality of humans is when Tito drew a picture of a black
man with big fat lips and passed it through the students until it got to Jamal Hill which was affected by
the photo. The cause of these immature actions is feeling the need to disrespect others because one is
not being respected themselves. Tito was proud and he reached his goal by bringing down Jamal s self
esteem. When the teacher saw that drawing of a black man with big lips, she made a reference to The
Second World War. She also made a reference to a gang during The Second World War who started
out poor, angry, and looked down upon. This gang was given importance when Adolf Hitler came into
power in Germany and that is when The Holocaust began. The Nazi s had a certain outlook on the
superior race and hated Jewish people. They

Neurodegenerative Disease
Neurodegenerative disease is a type of neurological disorder that primarily affects the brain
functioning due to progressive deterioration of neurons, protein misfolding and deposition of proteins,
plaques, oxidative stress, etc. [1, 2, 3]. It includes a wide range of diseases such as Alzheimer s,
Parkinson s, ALS and Huntington s disease, each having its own hallmark characteristic and
mechanism that eventually leads to neuronal death. Millions of people worldwide are affected by these
diseases; around 5.3 million people in America alone have been diagnosed with Alzheimer s[4]and the
annual incidence rates of Parkinson s is estimated to be 14 per 100 000 people in the total population,

One of the primary events that are implicated in these diseases is the amassing of distinct protein
based macroscopic deposits in the brain, leading to neuronal apoptosis [7]. Alpha synuclein was found
to be the major component of lewy body, which is the hallmark of degenerating neurons in Parkinson
s disease (PD) [8]; whereas Alzheimer s disease (AD) is marked by the existence of intracellular
lesions of tau which forms neuro fibrillary tangles (NFT) and extra cellular lesions called plaque,
consisting ÎČ amyloid (AÎČ) peptide as a major component [9]. In ALS, cytoplasmic lesions of SOD1
protein have been found in transgenic mice over expressing mutant SOD1, leading to the development
of an array of neurodegenerative changes consisting of vacuolization and swelling of mitochondria as
well as axonal degeneration [10]. These deposits are a classic disease signature; although the main
protein component is dissimilar in each disease, they have parallel morphological, structural, and

Dutch Slave Trade Essay
Dutch Slave Trade
During the 17th and 18th centuries, mercantilism was the emerging economic policy through which
the slave trade developed in Europe. In the Netherlands many historical events gave rise to a desire for
domination of international trade. They were serious tradesman and were heavily involved in the
profitable business of slavery. The Dutch, intelligent and self ruling tradesmen took no time in
displaying their dominance over rival countries, Portugal, England and Spain, in the Atlantic and
Indian Ocean. They established their international superiority in trade and impacted today s society.

However, this in turn led to the entrance into international trade. This will begin a long struggle for
trading power with the Portuguese, Spanish, English, and French.
The Dutch didn t take long to make their presence felt. The quote from the book The Slaves describes
their attitude coming into the trade, The Dutch, fiercely independent, and aggressive traders...did not
take long to establish themselves internationally. The Dutch were determined to control the trading
power in West Africa. By mid 16th century, the Dutch had set up posts along the West African coast,
and forts in present day Indonesia. The Dutch also controlled most of the Eastern Sea and had set up
forts along the Caribbean and the coast of Dutch Guiana. The Dutch were very bright when it came to
technological advances. One example of their knowledge was the invention of the canal and irrigation
tactics. The Dutch intelligence in trade soon overcame the Portuguese in Africa. First off, the Dutch
armed their boats and also trained the sailors. This system will prevent rivals and enemies to sink their
ships or purge their cargo from the ship. The Dutch also raided particular forts, which gave them good
geographic points on the map, and limited the power of their rivals. These forts were ports for trading
routes, where ships may need supplies, and were also loading areas for

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Women Fashion
4.ADVANCEMENTS IN WOMEN CLOTHING
Fashion *is the style and custom prevalent at a given time. To some it s an art form, to others it s like a
part of their culture and religion but to most it is a method of utilizing cloth to show or hide something
about themselves. Fashion can be used to serve as an extension of one s own personality or to disguise
one s own true self. (Ukessays,2015)
Language **disguises the thought, so that from the external form of the clothes one cannot infer the
form of the thought they clothe, because the external form of the clothes is constructed with quite
another object than to let the form of the body be recognized (Calefato,2004.p.13).

Football Symbolism Essay
With more than a billion watchers yearly, football is the biggest spectator sport on the planet. The
popularity of football is based on the competitive nature of the game and the idea of being a fan. In
addition to cheering for their team, fans inside or outside the stadium have a great deal to express.
Football is seen by many as a stage to express their national personality, political association, ethnic
pride, and religious belongings. This gives Football numerous qualities that make it something beyond
a game to many. The symbolism of football clubs, players, and colors can mean for the fans a close
feeling of having a place and personality. Also they are crystallized by the economic, social and
political settings that surround communities associated with Football. Football all over the world
depends on the masses, for its huge popularity. It is considered to be the game of the crowds. Football
is a game of 12th side (11 players and the fans), which shows the important role of the football fans.
Through football it is quite easy to grab the perception of identity in its ethnic, religious, and national
borders. Archetti (1999) describes Football as a game that captures the notion of an imagined
community perfectly. He suggests that when players are representing a nation, it is much easier to
imagine the nation and confirm to the national identity. Football is seen as a game in which each team
works as much as they can to occupy the territory of the other team by getting the ball into the goal.
This makes the game announce a winner and a loser, not only inside the stadium. As football depends
on the masses it becomes a stage for political activity. In the case of the ultras which they rely mainly
on the jobless youth, in this sense it shows the collective identity and class struggle. Therefore the
ability to channel and influence the ultras is appealing to the governing elite. Accordingly the political
governments sent messages through using the fandom of football. For example Mubarak meant to
associate his name through the national football team by attending matches in the stadium especially
the final match of Africa cup of nations in 2006. In this way the NDP (National Democratic Party)

Persuasive Speech On North Korea
The sight beheld by those who live in this prestigious empire is that of despondency. Born into our
young or toiling away in their jobs is this horrid exoticness. These exotics who are spewed from their
native countries in prodigious numbers are the cause of the present deplorable state of this nation.
While one party may be tip toeing around this grievance, we those who so desire only to see our
nation rise again to its former glory demand a solution one that is fair, cheap, and easy to assuage the
strife brought to our fair (white) nation.
Other projectors are grossly mistaken in their contemplation. For many years I ve let my mind wonder

what fine example North Korea has made of itself, I say we put China and Berlin to shame: our walls

Pros And Cons Of A Movie Watching The Movie Rated R
Have you ever watched a movie that was rated R ? I believe that ratings on movies and shows should
not exist because a movie could be rated R but the content in the movie is not bad at all, all kids will
act differently to what they watch but if there has to be ratings I think I have a better rating system for
all kids and parents to help. When you watched the movie you either ignored the rating or your parents
let you watch it on your own at home. If they let you watch it, because they already watched it
themselves, then they are on the right track. I m here to tell you why I think parents should be the ones
to tell what their kid watches by actually watching the movie first so that ratings will not exist at all!
When you watch an R rated movie what s usually in the movie? It s either sexual content, nudity,
violence and/or language. When parents see an R rating they think that it has sexual content, nudity,
violence and language so then they don t let their kid watch it. Sometimes it s just rated like this
because it swears a couple times. I also doubt that a grade 7 has never heard the F word before from
their parents or a school friend. It really should not be rated R for that. Another reason for parents to
watch the movie first instead of just looking at the rating is because the movie could be rated 13+ but
then have other bad things happen in the movie that they are not supposed to watch. If the parents had
not just read the rating and

Maggie And Dee
In the short story, Everyday Use, Alice Walker uses her contrasting characters of Maggie and Dee to
show a cultural split. Dee, the eldest daughter, comes home to visit her family who lives a very
traditional way of life. Dee has gone to college and lives a more modernist lifestyle, whereas her sister
Maggie has not gone to school and lives a more traditionalist lifestyle. This difference between the
sisters shows the division in the 1960 s between a traditionalist and modernist lifestyle through her
characters Maggie and Dee.
During the 1960s some African Americans began to replace their birth names with names of African

This appreciation also leads to Dee changing not only her lifestyle, but several other things such as her
apparel and name; which is described as stereotypically African. However, Dee s new found
appreciation does seem, like Hakims, to be more of a fad. In Diane Ross s article, Everyday Use, she
states, To Dee, artifacts such as the benches or the quilts are strictly aesthetic objects. It never occurs
to her that they, too, are symbols of oppression: Her family made these things because they could not
afford to buy them (Ross ). This shows, unlike her sister Maggie, Dee s perception of the quilts are
strictly aesthetic and artistic pieces that reflect African Heritage. Dee never considers they may
represent oppression themselves and it makes her seem as though she wants them solely just to show
off. In addition, Ross goes on to state, Her admiration for them now seems to reflect a cultural trend
toward valuing handmade objects, rather than any sincere interest in her heritage. After all, when she
was offered a quilt before she went away to college, she rejected it as old fashioned, out of style (Ross
). This shows that Dee s change to a modernist lifestyle was influenced through a cultural trend. This
also alludes to when Dee rejected a quilt before she went to college, but now that she has discovered
the cultural trend of college, she wants one.

Strategic Strategy And Risk Assessment
The business dictionary has defined success as the achievement of an objective or pre determined
goal. For this study, being successful will mean strategic alliance partners achieving those objectives
that necessitated their partnership. Uddin Akhter (2011) argued that strategic alliance success requires
cooperative behaviour from all partners. They went further to state that alliance success depends on
several factors such as active involvement in problem s solution, being trustworthy; to create value
combining partners resources and capabilities and persuasion among the partners for cooperation and
coordination of activities in a cooperative behaviour. Thomas (2014) outlined some key success
factors for strategic alliances and are : (1) Strategic Rationale Derive cooperation areas systematically
from business strategy including business case evaluation and risk assessment Engage in partnership
only in case benefit generated and risks involved justify additional complexity compared to alternative
solutions (2) Select partner High strategic and cultural fit between the partners Complementary
capabilities, resources and/or reground footprint Matching product portfolios (3) Negotiate and

There will be many different, individuals, contracts, laws, and risks that the clients will have to face in
order to accomplish their goal for their business. Hopson also mentioned that there are advantages and
disadvantages of the various entity choices for a growing small business that an owner intends to pass
on to family members or sell upon retirement. Advisors must ensure that business owners understand
the asset protection issues, tax advantages, and estate planning implications for the entity choice that
the client will choose (2014, p.42).
Before making the decision of the business entity, it is important that the client understands the
different aspect of each of the business entities. With this in mind, small business owners and their
advisors should examine the alternatives available (Miller, 2014, p.43). The client needs to be
informed that going from a sole proprietorship to other business entities such as partnership, limited

or more individuals in an agreement to carry on as a co worker of a business. It is important that both
individuals have a professional and positive relationship in order to accomplish their goal together.
The partnership is split up into two types of partnership, which is general and limited. The difference
between the partnerships is that the general partnership doesn t require formation, but limited

Tim Berners Lee s The World Wide Web
Introduction
In 1990, Tim Berners Lee who invented the World Wide Web and gave theoretical and technological
background for a new hypertext based linked information system, pointed out the problem of
keywords. Searching for a particular information, document or webpage is a far more complex and
longer process then it should be, mainly because two people never seem to choose the same keyword
for the same concept. (Berners Lee, 1990) This problem becomes more and more acute as we enter the
age of the Social Web characterized by collaborative and continuous creation, adaptation and
alteration of content. The first generation of web tools, between 1990 and 2003, allowed users to
publish information on a static page which could be read using ... Show more content on

However, the problem with keyword selection has remained largely unsolved, although social tagging
was a big step forward.
When users are searching for information on the web, they evaluate results tertieved before planning
the next search procedure. When evaluating, users are able to make connections between information
pieces from text, image or video based content and make associations between words. The goal of the
third generation of the web is to make more data available online readable and analyzable for
machines as well. The Semantic Web will bring structure to the meaningful content of Web pages by
using metadata and ontology, creating an environment where software agents can rapidly answer
complex queries of users. (Berners Lee et al. 2001) The source of this environment is already there:
we have huge amount of data available online. Three components help to transform existing data and
store them as semantic data (Herman, 2006, 2008):
Universal Resource Identifier (URI) which is a subject or an object;
Resource Description Framework (RDF) triples (s,p,o) which means a labeled connection between
two resources, where s , p and o stand for subject, property/predicate and object;
Ontology, a common metadata vocabulary that defines the concepts and relationships used to describe
and represent an area of knowledge. It is used for property characterization, term equivalence analysis
and reasoning

The Effect Of N-3deficient Diet And Its Affect On Humans
Over the last century, the diet of the average human has been getting substantially worse. Vitamin and
mineral intake has drastically declined due to pesticides destroying the soil s natural nutrients, which
in turn created a yearn to understand this new diet s impact on the health of society (Ettinger,2016).
One major shift has been to a high ratio of omega 6 (n 6) polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) to
omega 3 (n 3) PUFAs, which a recent study attempts to examine in order to understand this ratio s
affect on humans (Sakayori et al., 2015). The experiment focuses on trying to understand how an n

mice were split up into two groups: control and experimental. In the control group, the mice were fed
a healthy ratio of n 6 PUFAs to n 3 PUFAs, while the experimental group was fed a n 6excess/n

JonBenet Ramsey was an interesting case, she was a child beauty queen that was murdered in her
house late at night in Colorado in 1996. Her father, John Ramsey, later found her body in the basement

Back to the ransom note, it was sitting on the kitchen table in the Ramsey house and demanded a

Yang and his colleagues, the idea of athleticism is inheritable is explored. Nan Yang first explains that
there are a plethora of studies and evidence that illustrates that athletic performance is highly
influenced by the genetics of an individual. Also apparently studies have shown that there is some sort
of evolutionary trade off between traits that encode for speed and endurance. Now looking at the
genome of a human, studies have discovered that the actin binding protein alpha actinin 3 is absent in
the majority of the general population due to a stop codon in ACTN3. Alpha actinins are a family of
proteins that encode for two types of skeletal muscle proteins: ACTN2 (in fibers) and ACTN3 (in fast

children, and 215 healthy adults). Within their control group, there were 292 females and 134 males.
In the experimental group, there were 429 elite white athletes (50 participates in the Olympics) from

due to the localization of ACTN3 in fast muscle fibers, the deficiency would reduce the performance

Introduction:
Web Services describe an area of computing which define the method of communication used by
machines to interact with each other over the internet. A web service is a method for applications that
are written in contrasting languages to be able to transfer data between one another without any
problems. Two kinds of Web Services are SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) and REST

SOAP characterizes a communication protocol for XML based message exchange. SOAP utilizes
transport protocols such as HTTP and SMTP. SOAP provides simplified communication methods
through firewalls and proxies. It is both language and platform independent. SOAP uses SOAP
messages in order to transmit messages. The SOAP message is a standard XML document which

Philosophical Principals Exemplified in The Truman Show...
In order to understand the moral fabric of the world, it is important to question any information that is
given to an individual, instead of blindly accepting the majority opinion and giving it full credibility
and validity based on other people s opinions. Plato s work, The Republic introduces the allegory of
the cave, which is metaphorical scenario that attempts to explain the importance of questioning norms
that may seem trivial. Plato illustrates a cave where bounded prisoners have lived all their lives in
seclusion, away from the outside world. In their immobile state, they can only look at the wall in front
of them which is illuminated by a small fire that has been going on behind them. The wall constantly

In an interview, the antagonist claims that, We accept the reality with which we are presented. It is as
simple as that. The quote reflects many philosophical principles that are exemplified in both The
Truman Show and in the Allegory of the Cave.
To start off, the quote addresses the underlying ignorance that is evident in both Plato s and Weir s
works. Truman was living his entire life inside a metaphorical bubble. In many instances throughout
the movie, he ignored any suspicious act that threatened to obscure and interfere with his concept of
reality. For example, as Truman was walking out of his house, he noticed a studio light that suddenly
fell from the sky just as he was about to get in his car. Even though he questioned it at first, Truman
did not really bother investigating or looking into it, perhaps because he was subconsciously afraid of
what he would find. He chooses not to give the random incident any importance and gets in his car,
which further proves his underlying ignorance and reluctance to accept things that may not conform to
the norm. Shortly after, the producers of the show decide to make an excuse for the set malfunction,
and it is soon forgotten. Additionally, when Sylvia tells him upfront that his entire life is a lie, he
chooses to ignore it, until he himself starts to question his life. In the same way, in Plato s allegory of

The Cost Of The Asset
Under generally accepted accounting principles, assets both tangible and certain intangible assets that
have an estimated useful life of more than one year but not infinitely should be allocated and
depreciated, amortized or depleted. The cost of the asset needs to be determined as well as any
possible salvage or resale value estimated. The total cost of an asset needs to not only include the
purchase price of the item but also sales taxes, installation costs, freight and interest (if applicable).
Costs currently or that are incurred in the future for maintenance and repairs is only an expense and
does not change the value of the asset. Basically, all costs that were necessary to allow the asset to
become useful should be capitalized. Depreciation, amortization and depletion are acceptable methods
used under U.S. GAAP to charge the cost of an asset used in a company s day to day operations to
expense over the periods benefited systematically. Depreciation refers to prorating tangible and
intangible asset s cost less any salvage value evenly over the useful life of the asset. For an item to be
considered an asset, it must intended for operations of the business and not for resale. Useful life
should be reasonable but can vary from one asset to another from one view point to another. Estimated
useful life is the time period in which an asset is expected to contribute to usefulness to a company.
Not all assets will have salvage value. With the exception of land, all assets are

The Birthplace Of A Nation
The Birthplace of a Nation
Walking along an old dirt road that was once, in days gone by, a trade route used by Native
Americans, my attention is drawn to a simple, little building in the middle of a peaceful field. I can
hear the sweet mockingbird s song, insects buzzing, the odd acorn falling from a tree and hitting the
ground with a soft thud, and a gentle rustling of the leaves as the breeze blows through the magnolia
trees. To imagine what took place here nearly two hundred years ago is truly a spectacular experience!
Who would have thought that a cabin once designed to be a modest mercantile would be miraculously
transformed into a symbol of freedom and an inspiration of courage? Rich in history, a symbol of the
heritage of Texas, the birthplace of a nation this is Independence Hall.
Independence Hall is a humble, one room, wooden cabin located at the Washington on the Brazos

designed to be a practical, little mercantile. But this place is so much more than a mercantile: it is a
symbol of a heritage that belongs to all Texans today as well as to all lovers of freedom and truth.
It was late fall in the year 1835 when unrest began brewing in the hearts of many Texans in what was

  • 2. Economic Espionage Essay Economic Espionage act (1996) states that Whoever, intending or knowing that the offense will benefit any foreign government, foreign instrumentality, or foreign agent, knowingly without authorization copies, duplicates, sketches, draws, photographs, downloads, uploads, alters, destroys, photocopies, replicates, transmits, delivers, sends, mails, communicates, or conveys a trade secret shall, except as provided in subsection (b), be fined not more than $500,000 or imprisoned not more than 15 years, or both. . It is important to note that the clause clearly stipulates that the eligible person for the punishment in such espionage is one who has intentions of benefiting another corporation or group apart from the one he/she is working ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to a Annual Report to Congress on Foreign Economic Collection and Industrial Espionage (2008), a wide variety of foreign entities have attempted to illegally acquire trade secrets and US technology a problem attributed to outsourcing research and development. Most companies in the United States have been encouraging outsourcing research and development as a means improving themselves in terms of products being universally usable. This has led such companies setting up bases in foreign countries where such research is carried out. These bases have well been used as a gateway for economical espionage since foreign entities can easily access such bases and access information on the said companies or U.S in general. This may be through employees in such bases, spies or even hacking information systems that are connected the ones in the U.S. Acquisition of information and technology from such companies has well been used to either disable operations of such bases or setting up rival companies. It is worth noting that espionage from such bases is hard trace or quantify. This is because the jurisdiction of such states cannot be influenced or forced to take measures of such activities due to the nation s sovereignty. Legal cases in such incidents are left pending for fear of bad international relations and investigations are hardly finished. Economic espionage in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Connections Between Aircraft Performance And Propulsion... 13. Aircraft Performance In this chapter we will make the connections between aircraft performance and propulsion system performance. For a vehicle in steady, level flight, as in Figure 13.1, the thrust force is equal to the drag force, and lift is equal to weight. Any thrust available in excess of that required to overcome the drag can be applied to accelerate the vehicle (increasing kinetic energy) or to cause the vehicle to climb (increasing potential energy). Figure 13.1: A schematic of the forces on an aircraft in steady level flight 13.1 Vehicle Drag Recall from fluids that drag takes the form shown in Figure 13.2, being composed of a part termed parasitic drag that increases with the square of the ... • 4. Darkness And Darkness In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of Darkness He Spelled Those Around Him Without Realizing That He Himself Had Been Spelled Throughout Conrad s Heart of Darkness, he proves that all humans ultimately have some form of dark within their soul. Even through the title one can see the irony between the heart, showing light and humanity, and the darkness, displaying evil and immoral. The protagonist, Marlow, listens to other members of the company illustrate Kurtz as both a universal genius (Conrad 33) and as a man with enough power to frighten the manager (Conrad 37). Throughout the novel Kurtz symbolizes the key theme of darkness and savagery, contributing to the overarching purpose of conveying Africa s true environment and impact on humans. For the majority of the novel, Marlow is yet to meet the mysterious Kurtz. The different, opposing perspectives of Kurtz s persona cause Marlow to wonder uncontrollably and crave the presence of the man himself. Marlow practically hears Kurtz even before meeting him: The man presented himself as a voice... the gift of expression, the bewildering, the illuminating, the most exalted and the most contemptible, the pulsating stream of light, or the deceitful flow from the heart of an impenetrable darkness (Conrad 57). Kurtz displays positive qualities while also negative ones; he has the ability to take control of Marlow s mind without even meeting the former. • 5. Eulogy For Lamson I strive to be as generous and diligent as my great grandfather, Alfred Lamson. Lamson came from humble and challenging beginnings. He was born in Lawtell, Louisiana to a farmer turned banker father and a german immigrant mother in 1917. At the age of one, his mother died; and at the age of twelve, the Great Depression started. Through these trying times, Lamson found comfort in Boy Scouts. Striving to be the outstanding in scouts, Lamson attained the rank of Eagle Scout and the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award in 1931. Aside from these prestigious awards, Lamson also earned all 47 possible merit badges. I know the true challenge and accomplishments of these awards, as I am also an Eagle Scout. I strive to be as generous as Lamson because I know that there are many things in this world that I have received that I do not deserve, and I feel like it is my duty to give back to those who are in need and are less fortunate than me. Currently, I am very frugal and selfish with my money, which is a habit that I need to break because I internally believe that I should donate money to those who need it more than me. If I ever become as wealthy as he was, I hope to use his generosity as a guide on how I should spend my money. His continual giving allowed him to build many relationships and positively influence others in a way that not many could. Also, I hope to impact others through serving the community in the way that Alfred did. I aspire to be as diligent as Lamson in work because I have seen the success that he has attained through simply pushing through tough times with a dogged and persevering attitude. Lamson s diligence in his occupation and community service truly distinguished him in his community and field, and gave him many opportunities to give back and help others. To date, a well defined tenure or ownership has not been available for those collective forests in southern China, and an overloaded forest related taxation still exists for forest farmers. This has heavily undermined the afforestation initiatives available to forest farmers (Zhang, 2008). In contrast, the USA has pushed many favorable policies, including an adoption of taxation incentive packages to encourage citizens to manage forests. A comprehensive system of laws related to forest management has dramatically advanced forest management levels and led to an overall forest inventory regularly. The second intervention is changing the colour of the plates, this uses problem solving because when the resident is getting distracted then the implementation of colours can draw attention to the food. Communicating to the resident helps bring attention to back to the meal (McMahon, 2009). When implementing interventions there are barriers that must be overcome in order to make them effective. For the first intervention dealing with helping them use cutlery, a barrier can be time. This can be an issue because care providers may not want to spend the time to properly teach the resident and want to do it themselves so that it is faster, it is important that the nurses be supportive and patient (McGinley, 2015). If it is easier and more affordable for an institution to only have one colour plates, then having special plates for residents with vascular dementia could be a challenge. To overcome this, having the family bring in coloured plates if they are able to could resolve this problem (McGinley, 2015). Lastly, having a nurse sit with a resident with vascular dementia for the duration of the meal to stop their wandering could be a challenge because it is unlikely that an institution would be able to have health care professionals give their complete attention to only one resident. The popularity of football is based on the competitive nature of the game and the idea of being a fan. In addition to cheering for their team, fans inside or outside the stadium have a great deal to express. Football is seen by many as a stage to express their national personality, political association, ethnic pride, and religious belongings. This gives Football numerous qualities that make it something beyond a game to many. The symbolism of football clubs, players, and colors can mean for the fans a close feeling of having a place and personality. Also they are crystallized by the economic, social and political settings that surround communities associated with Football. Football all over the world depends on the masses, for its huge popularity. It is considered to be the game of the crowds. Football is a game of 12th side (11 players and the fans), which shows the important role of the football fans. Through football it is quite easy to grab the perception of identity in its ethnic, religious, and national borders. Archetti (1999) describes Football as a game that captures the notion of an imagined community perfectly. He suggests that when players are representing a nation, it is much easier to imagine the nation and confirm to the national identity. Football is seen as a game in which each team works as much as they can to occupy the territory of the other team by getting the ball into the goal. This makes the game announce a winner and a loser, not only inside the stadium. As football depends on the masses it becomes a stage for political activity. In the case of the ultras which they rely mainly on the jobless youth, in this sense it shows the collective identity and class struggle. Therefore the ability to channel and influence the ultras is appealing to the governing elite. Accordingly the political governments sent messages through using the fandom of football. Sometimes it s just rated like this because it swears a couple times. I also doubt that a grade 7 has never heard the F word before from their parents or a school friend. It really should not be rated R for that. Another reason for parents to watch the movie first instead of just looking at the rating is because the movie could be rated 13+ but then have other bad things happen in the movie that they are not supposed to watch. If the parents had not just read the rating and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Maggie And Dee In the short story, Everyday Use, Alice Walker uses her contrasting characters of Maggie and Dee to show a cultural split. Dee, the eldest daughter, comes home to visit her family who lives a very traditional way of life. Dee has gone to college and lives a more modernist lifestyle, whereas her sister Maggie has not gone to school and lives a more traditionalist lifestyle. This difference between the sisters shows the division in the 1960 s between a traditionalist and modernist lifestyle through her characters Maggie and Dee. During the 1960s some African Americans began to replace their birth names with names of African or Muslim descent, but what was the reason behind this change? In his article, Destroying to Save: Idealism and Pragmatism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This appreciation also leads to Dee changing not only her lifestyle, but several other things such as her apparel and name; which is described as stereotypically African. However, Dee s new found appreciation does seem, like Hakims, to be more of a fad. In Diane Ross s article, Everyday Use, she states, To Dee, artifacts such as the benches or the quilts are strictly aesthetic objects. It never occurs to her that they, too, are symbols of oppression: Her family made these things because they could not afford to buy them (Ross ). This shows, unlike her sister Maggie, Dee s perception of the quilts are strictly aesthetic and artistic pieces that reflect African Heritage. Dee never considers they may represent oppression themselves and it makes her seem as though she wants them solely just to show off. In addition, Ross goes on to state, Her admiration for them now seems to reflect a cultural trend toward valuing handmade objects, rather than any sincere interest in her heritage. After all, when she was offered a quilt before she went away to college, she rejected it as old fashioned, out of style (Ross ). This shows that Dee s change to a modernist lifestyle was influenced through a cultural trend. This also alludes to when Dee rejected a quilt before she went to college, but now that she has discovered the cultural trend of college, she wants one. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For this study, being successful will mean strategic alliance partners achieving those objectives that necessitated their partnership. Uddin Akhter (2011) argued that strategic alliance success requires cooperative behaviour from all partners. They went further to state that alliance success depends on several factors such as active involvement in problem s solution, being trustworthy; to create value combining partners resources and capabilities and persuasion among the partners for cooperation and coordination of activities in a cooperative behaviour. Thomas (2014) outlined some key success factors for strategic alliances and are : (1) Strategic Rationale Derive cooperation areas systematically from business strategy including business case evaluation and risk assessment Engage in partnership only in case benefit generated and risks involved justify additional complexity compared to alternative solutions (2) Select partner High strategic and cultural fit between the partners Complementary capabilities, resources and/or reground footprint Matching product portfolios (3) Negotiate and establish Have a common vision of partnership, agree on fundamental values and convictions and have general rules and standards established Share main assumptions and realistic targets of all partners clearly at the start of a project Define clear decision processes ... Being a sole proprietorship, our new client made a big accomplishment because the product has been sold in many major retail stores. While the client was involved in the sole proprietorship, there were different characteristics of the business that the expansion was required to be utilized, but there were still issues within the business. Advisors must ensure that business owners understand the asset protection issues, tax advantages, and estate planning implications for the entity choice that the client will choose (2014, p.42). Before making the decision of the business entity, it is important that the client understands the different aspect of each of the business entities. With this in mind, small business owners and their advisors should examine the alternatives available (Miller, 2014, p.43). The client needs to be informed that going from a sole proprietorship to other business entities such as partnership, limited liability company, partnership s, and corporation required a lot of research. A partnership required two or more individuals in an agreement to carry on as a co worker of a business. It is important that both individuals have a professional and positive relationship in order to accomplish their goal together. • 29. Tim Berners Lee s The World Wide Web Introduction In 1990, Tim Berners Lee who invented the World Wide Web and gave theoretical and technological background for a new hypertext based linked information system, pointed out the problem of keywords. Searching for a particular information, document or webpage is a far more complex and longer process then it should be, mainly because two people never seem to choose the same keyword for the same concept. (Berners Lee, 1990) This problem becomes more and more acute as we enter the age of the Social Web characterized by collaborative and continuous creation, adaptation and alteration of content. The first generation of web tools, between 1990 and 2003, allowed users to publish information on a static page which could be read using ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the problem with keyword selection has remained largely unsolved, although social tagging was a big step forward. When users are searching for information on the web, they evaluate results tertieved before planning the next search procedure. When evaluating, users are able to make connections between information pieces from text, image or video based content and make associations between words. The goal of the third generation of the web is to make more data available online readable and analyzable for machines as well. The Semantic Web will bring structure to the meaningful content of Web pages by using metadata and ontology, creating an environment where software agents can rapidly answer complex queries of users. (Berners Lee et al. 2001) The source of this environment is already there: we have huge amount of data available online. Three components help to transform existing data and store them as semantic data (Herman, 2006, 2008): Universal Resource Identifier (URI) which is a subject or an object; Resource Description Framework (RDF) triples (s,p,o) which means a labeled connection between two resources, where s , p and o stand for subject, property/predicate and object; Ontology, a common metadata vocabulary that defines the concepts and relationships used to describe and represent an area of knowledge. • 30. The Effect Of N-3deficient Diet And Its Affect On Humans Over the last century, the diet of the average human has been getting substantially worse. Vitamin and mineral intake has drastically declined due to pesticides destroying the soil s natural nutrients, which in turn created a yearn to understand this new diet s impact on the health of society (Ettinger,2016). One major shift has been to a high ratio of omega 6 (n 6) polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) to omega 3 (n 3) PUFAs, which a recent study attempts to examine in order to understand this ratio s affect on humans (Sakayori et al., 2015). The experiment focuses on trying to understand how an n 6excess/n 3deficient diet in a mother affects their offspring. In the experiment, the wild type (WT) mice were split up into two groups: control and experimental. In the control group, the mice were fed a healthy ratio of n 6 PUFAs to n 3 PUFAs, while the experimental group was fed a n 6excess/n 3deficient diet that is similar to the majority of current human diets. Her autopsy revealed that she was strangled and got hit in the head, which was estimated as her cause of death. Athletic Performance Research Paper In the research paper, ACTN3 Genotype Is Associated with Human Elite Athletic Performance by Nan Yang and his colleagues, the idea of athleticism is inheritable is explored. Nan Yang first explains that there are a plethora of studies and evidence that illustrates that athletic performance is highly influenced by the genetics of an individual. Also apparently studies have shown that there is some sort of evolutionary trade off between traits that encode for speed and endurance. Now looking at the genome of a human, studies have discovered that the actin binding protein alpha actinin 3 is absent in the majority of the general population due to a stop codon in ACTN3. Alpha actinins are a family of proteins that encode for two types of skeletal muscle proteins: ACTN2 (in fibers) and ACTN3 (in fast fibers). Over the years evidence has elucidated that ... A web service is a method for applications that are written in contrasting languages to be able to transfer data between one another without any problems. Two kinds of Web Services are SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) and REST (Representational State Transfer). SOAP characterizes a communication protocol for XML based message exchange. SOAP utilizes transport protocols such as HTTP and SMTP. SOAP provides simplified communication methods through firewalls and proxies. It is both language and platform independent. In order to understand the moral fabric of the world, it is important to question any information that is given to an individual, instead of blindly accepting the majority opinion and giving it full credibility and validity based on other people s opinions. Plato s work, The Republic introduces the allegory of the cave, which is metaphorical scenario that attempts to explain the importance of questioning norms that may seem trivial. Plato illustrates a cave where bounded prisoners have lived all their lives in seclusion, away from the outside world. The quote reflects many philosophical principles that are exemplified in both The Truman Show and in the Allegory of the Cave. To start off, the quote addresses the underlying ignorance that is evident in both Plato s and Weir s works. Truman was living his entire life inside a metaphorical bubble. In many instances throughout the movie, he ignored any suspicious act that threatened to obscure and interfere with his concept of reality. For example, as Truman was walking out of his house, he noticed a studio light that suddenly fell from the sky just as he was about to get in his car. Even though he questioned it at first, Truman did not really bother investigating or looking into it, perhaps because he was subconsciously afraid of what he would find. He chooses not to give the random incident any importance and gets in his car, which further proves his underlying ignorance and reluctance to accept things that may not conform to the norm. Shortly after, the producers of the show decide to make an excuse for the set malfunction, and it is soon forgotten. Additionally, when Sylvia tells him upfront that his entire life is a lie, he chooses to ignore it, until he himself starts to question his life. In the same way, in Plato s allegory of the ... • 38. The Cost Of The Asset Under generally accepted accounting principles, assets both tangible and certain intangible assets that have an estimated useful life of more than one year but not infinitely should be allocated and depreciated, amortized or depleted. The cost of the asset needs to be determined as well as any possible salvage or resale value estimated. The total cost of an asset needs to not only include the purchase price of the item but also sales taxes, installation costs, freight and interest (if applicable). Costs currently or that are incurred in the future for maintenance and repairs is only an expense and does not change the value of the asset. Basically, all costs that were necessary to allow the asset to become useful should be capitalized. Depreciation, amortization and depletion are acceptable methods used under U.S. GAAP to charge the cost of an asset used in a company s day to day operations to expense over the periods benefited systematically. Depreciation refers to prorating tangible and intangible asset s cost less any salvage value evenly over the useful life of the asset. For an item to be considered an asset, it must intended for operations of the business and not for resale. Useful life should be reasonable but can vary from one asset to another from one view point to another.
