Antihero In Stuart Rosenberg s Cool Hand Luke
Released in 1967, Stuart Rosenberg s Cool Hand Luke was like many other films of the time,
and presented the main character as an antihero. An antihero is a protagonist of a story or film
who exhibits unconventional superhero characteristics. Lucas Luke Jackson played Korean War
veteran who was arrested for cutting the tops off of parking meters. He was sentenced to two
years in a Florida prison camp. Underlying the hard bitten surface is a slightly uncomfortable
allegory which identifies Newman as a Christ figure (Milnes, 142). He was idolized by the men in
the chain gang and changed their lives forever. From the time Luke arrives at the prison, he stands
out to the guards and the other prisoners. Luke earns his respect by fighting the prison s leader,

After this, the men, including Dragline, begin to look up to Luke and follow him, as the
disciples did with Christ. After being at the prison for a while, Luke states that he can eat 50
hard boiled eggs in an hour, and the other men take bets on him. The 50 eggs symbolize the 50
men in the prison camp. Luke eats every last one of the eggs, representing Christ taking on the
world s sin during his crucifixion. Luke finishes the last egg at the last second of the hour. He lies
on the table with his arms stretched out, and the camera zooms out to show him in a crucifixion
pose. Luke s mother passes away while he is in the prison camp. To rid him of the temptation

Essay about Explanations of Personality Development
Explanations of Personality Development
According to Sigmund Freud, what we do and why we do it, who we are and how we became
this way are all related to our sexual drive. Differences in personalities originate in differences in
childhood sexual experiences. In the Freudian psychoanalytical model, child personality
development is discussed in terms of psychosexual stages . In his Three Essays on Sexuality
(1915), Freud outlined five stages of manifestations of the sexual drive: Oral, Anal, Phallic,
Latency, and Genital. At each stage, different areas of the child s body become the focus of his
pleasure and the principal source of sexual arousal. Differences in satisfying the sexual urges at each

The superego is the Freudian structure of personality that is the moral branch of personality. The
superego takes into account whether something is right or wrong. The superego as what we often
refer to as our conscience.
During the oral stage (birth to 18 months), the child if focused on oral pleasures (e.g. sucking).
Too much or too little gratification can result in an Oral Fixation or Oral Personality, which is
evidenced by an obsession with oral activities. This type of personality may have a stronger
tendency to smoke, drink alcohol, over eat, or bite his or her nails. Personality wise, these
individuals may become overly dependent upon others, gullible, and group followers. On the other
hand, they may also fight these urges and develop negative personalities and aggression toward
others.
In the Anal Stage (18 months to three years), the child s focus of pleasure is on eliminating and
retaining faeces. Through society s pressure, mainly via parents, the child has to learn to control
anal stimulation. In terms of personality, after effects of an anal fixation during this stage can result
in an obsession with cleanliness, perfection, and control (anal retentive). On the opposite end of the
spectrum, they may become messy and disorganized (anal expulsive).
The pleasure zone in Phallic Stage (ages three to six) switches to

Immigration Issues in the News
H. R. 2604 (2012): Help Separated Families Act of 2013 is a Federal bill introduced by
Representative Lucille Roybal Allard, a Democrat in California s 40th District. After the
introduction of this Federal bill it was referred to the Committee on Ways and Means: 113th
Congress, 2013 2015. The bill, (H. R. 2604) was introduced to the Senate floor as of Jun 28, 2013
(GovTrack.us, 2013). This bill would ensure that immigrationstatus alone does not disqualify a
relative from being a placement for a child whose parent (s) has been deported.
Understanding the Problem Immigration issues have been in the news; and have been debated by
politicians. Political parties over the years have been vocal in voicing their concerns about
American immigration (Russit, 2013). The problem is if you are an undocumented immigrant and
you are stopped by an arresting agency you will be detained and deported according to the current
immigration policy (Russit, 2013). Russit (2013) explains the judicial branch of our Supreme Court
has ruled over this issue for over four decades. They have determined the federal government has
the exclusive power of regulating immigration. These powers are based on the Commerce Clause,
Naturalization Clause, Migration and Importation Clause and the War Power Clause of Article I of
the US Constitution. The courts have ruled that any state or local law that attempts to regulate
immigration is in violation of the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution and is

The hemp plant and marijuana has been around for a long time and has had a variety of purposes.
What is marijuana and how is it consumed?
Marijuana is a greenish gray mixture of the dried, shredded leaves, stems, seeds, and flowers of
Cannabis sativa the hemp plant. (Drugabuse.gov, 2012). It is a naturally occurring plant. It can be
consumed by smoking it, eating it or brewing the leaves into a tea (Drugabuse.gov, 2012). The
preferred method of ingestion is by smoking. Once it is inhaled into the lungs it enters the blood
stream and moves quickly throughout the body eventually making it to the brain.
What physical and mental effects does marijuana have on a person?
Smoking or ingesting marijuana creates a euphoric effect for the user. The effects can range from
being in a mellow or calm mood to sleepiness. Users also exhibit an inability or lack of desire to
use critical thought processes and show little or no motivation to complete normal activities of
daily living. The active ingredient in marijuana that causes these effects is THC or Delta 9
tetrahydrocannabinol (Drugabuse.gov, 2012, July). According to the National Institute on Drug
Abuse, THC binds to specific sites called cannabinoid receptors (CBRs) located on the surface of
[the brain] nerve cells. These receptors are found in high density in areas of the brain that influence

Compare And Contrast Leonardo And Raphael

Identify and Compare the works of two Artists Leonardo and Raphael
Art is in the eye of the beholder, and everyone will have their own interpretation. E.A. Bucchianeri.
Art is a beautiful construct and it has been seen as such and shall continue to be seen as such for
generations to come. History has seen a vast number of extremely talented Artists, and while art
may take new forms, its integrity shall remain unshifted. Two men in specific have contributed to
art and its history like no other; Leonardo Da Vinci and Raphael Sanzio da Urbino. Both of these
men, considered masters of their talents, have conceived some of the World s greatest artworks,
but it is here that I would like to specifically examine, compare, and contrast the ideals of both
man and his work in a self portrait from each their own. Leonardo s Portrait of a Man in Red Chalk
and Raphael s Portrait of a Young Man.
Leonardo and Raphael are perhaps two of the most interesting individuals in Art History. A man
could spend a lifetime studying them and their works, and yet one would only be able to
understand the complexity of their minds, but not the begging question of, Who truly is Leonardo
or Raphael? . Perhaps, to begin to understand you might look deep into their art and view it, not as
what you feel, but as what they felt. While art has always taken new forms, an Artist s personality
is always seen manifested in his or her work.

A Concept Of A Calling
A Concept Analysis of ?a Calling? to Nursing Christie Emerson Kennesaw State University
Running head: A CONCEPT ANALYSIS OF ?A CALLING? TO NURSING1 A CONCEPT
ANALYSIS OF ?A CALLING? TO NURSING14 Abstract The aim of this paper is to clarify the
concept of ?a calling? as it relates to nursing. The purpose is to develop a definition with the detail
and clarity needed to guide reliable and valid research. The classic steps described by Walker and
Avant (2011) are used for the analysis. Literature from several disciplines is reviewed including
vocational psychology, Christian Career counseling, sociology, organizational management and
nursing. The analysis provides an operational definition of ?a calling? to nursing and establishes
three defining attributes of the concept: (a) a passionate intrinsic motivation or desire (perhaps with
a religious component), (b) fulfillment of an aspiration for the work to provide meaningfulness or
purpose in one?s life, and (c) helping other through caregiving. Antecedents to the concept are
personal introspective and cognitive awareness. Positive consequences to the concept are improved
work meaningfulness, work engagement, career commitment, personal well being and satisfaction.
Negative consequences of having ?a calling? might include willingness to sacrifice wellbeing for
work and problems with work life balance. Following the concept analysis, philosophical
assumptions, contextual factors, interdisciplinary work,

Taxing Junk Food Research Paper

ENG 112
11/15/15
It Is Time to Tax Junk Food We live in a busy era. In a blink of an eye a week and even a month
passes by. Time is precious, and people are trying to cut corners in order to get things done faster.
Most families have both parents working. After a long working day there is no desire to spend
another couple of hours by the stove preparing dinner. The convenience of fast foodhas replaced
most family s homemade meals. Because of this, many Americans, especially children, eat
processed food every day. The usual menu consist of a sugary cereal for breakfast, a hot dog and
chips for lunch, and chicken nuggets and fries for dinner. Such processed food has a little or no
nutritional value, which is why it is often called junk food. But why would any parent feed junk to
their children? Is the body a garbage disposal? Why do people choose unhealthy foods? The
problem is that it is very cheap, tasty, and in most cases it does not require cooking, which saves
people a lot of time and money. However, junk food should be taxed because of these three
reasons. First, it causes people to be overweight which leads to many health problems. Second,
taxing junk food will encourage people to choose a healthier diet. ... Show more content on

One of the biggest health care breakthrough was when the government had decided to impose tax
on cigarettes. One article statistics show that every 10 percent price increase on cigarettes
reduced sales by about three percent overall, and seven percent among teenagers (Kristof,
Nicholas). People chose to smoke less because cigarettes became less affordable, which led to
decrease in cases of lung cancer. Just like cigarettes, processed food is related to health problems.
Applying the tax on it is the next logical step. Higher prices on junk food will discourage people
from purchasing it, which will promote healthier

Brave New World And Brave New World
The 1920 s and the 1930 s brought about many changes in the world such as financial fluctuations
and advancements in technology. The novel Brave New World , by Aldous
Huxley, and the short story There Will Come Soft Rains , by Ray Bradbury, gives an excellent
presentation of futuristic elements and how world climate at the time affected how the author
perceived the future. Both of these stories paint a picture of a world where technology has
advanced to the point that it has negatively affected mankind. Using new historicism, this paper will
explore the different ideas and thoughts of the authors and how they got influenced by the historical
events happening in their time as well as the developing technologies. This paper will also explore
how the two stories, even though written on different decades, are very similar in nature through
their views, themes, and the ultimate effect on society.
Huxley writes the novel Brave New Worldin 1931 around the time technology rapidly replaced
workers jobs and made unemployment rates increase. This caused many people to take any job
they could get such as factory work. In the novel, Aldous Huxley describes a future world where
every single person is working in a factory and doesn t have a say rather or not they want to work
there. The novel shows Huxley sees the future as alienated and ruled by a God who controls every
aspect of people s lives. During this time Huxley writes his novel, the

The Modern Day Legal Systems
Human civilization marked the beginning of modern day legal systems. The advancements in
societies resulted in maintaining certain rules and regulations to continue this progress. Every
society has its own set of laws which are in some ways distinct from others. Many of these laws
have common sections and underlying guidelines. This could be because some societies decide
to retain certain aspects of their customs after breaking out of another society. It could also be the
case that over time different societies through trade and other intercultural activities developed
together, which caused them to have agreements in their laws. For many others, it is the case that
they share a common colonial master. The law and legal systems operating today are derivatives
of the forms listed above. Like many other nations today, the laws of ancient civilizations have
affected Canadian law. These include the Code of Hammurabi, the Mosaic law, Greek and Roman
laws, the Magna Carta and a few others. More recently are the civil and common law derived from
the French and British respectively. Canadadid not always have a written constitution. The territory
we now refer to as Canada was once populated by the French and English colonial masters. These
colonists extended the laws of their home countries to their colonies. As the population of this
territory grew and the UK gained control of more colonies including those from the French, regional
laws became a necessity. Between the eighteenth

Exages And Disadvantages Of Outsourcing
Many Companies nowadays have engaged outsourcing strategies to reduce cost. Instead of doing
it by their own staff, buying machines for fabrication. they engaged vendor to do it for them.
There are pros and cons when dealing other company to provide/manufacture/assemble goods.
Advantage of outsourcing is that It s undeniably true that it s cheaper to rent a factory and its
workers than to maintain them yourself. Good outsourcing must have a very good planning to
overcome some changes. The contract must be very well done, well define to adopt changes and
will not result to unexpected rise of cost. Rise of unexpected cost is then called the overlooking

they usually end up keeping some employees to help in the transition and the cost of extended

extremely complex and burdensome. If you do it poorly and unplanned, some employees may

The Development Of Nature And Nurture In Language Development
The basis of language development theories revolves around the idea that, either nature or nurture
are more influential than the other in the development of language in children. Language
development as defined by, Menyuk, is the acquisition and growth of a societies chosen method of
communication, which occurs due to a culmination of cognitive growth and environmental
experiences (2005). Nature, is concerned with the biological makeup of an individual that
influences their ability to acquire language including, genes and brain function, alternatively,
nurture is environmental factors including, culture, family, and experiences (Fellows Oakley,
2014). Nature and nurture both play vital yet highly diverse roles in the acquisition of language
and its development. Analysis of the process of language acquisition will reveal that both nature
and nurture are vital for successful language development of children. The process by which
language is learnt or acquired differs by theory, specifically two alternate perspectives display the
basis of nature and nurture. The first theory to be discussed stems off the basis of nurture, the
behaviourist theory. This theory draws upon the concept of nature, suggesting behaviour is learnt
through experience and reinforced by rewards (Fellows Oakley, 2014). This perspective states
children learn from and imitate their surroundings and they are rewarded by responses and the
success of their communication, this is an exemplar of acquisition

Margaret Atwood Variations On The Word Love Analysis
Throughout the anthology of Canadian poetry, there is one main theme that ties all five poems
together. A child s interpretation of love can be found within each poem despite their many
differences. The first poem found in the anthology is Variations on the Word Love by Margaret
Atwood.. In the first line, Atwood states, This is a word we use to plug / holes with . This line
accurately depicts the use of the word love in today s society. Many people use the word no
matter if they really love what they are speaking about. Though Atwood is not a child, this poem
depicts the way the world can have an effect on what once was a pure and wholesome word
when one was a child. Overall, this poem displays the transition of the meaning of love to a
person as he ages. The second poem in the anthology is The Special Person by Dennis Lee. This
poem is written from the point of view of a child at daycare and displays a child s accepting love
for his carer. As Lynn, the child s carer, reads him stories and smells good when she picks [him]
up , the child discovers his love for her (Lee 9). The child narrating the poem also states, I guess I
m going to marry Lynn , exhibiting his love for the person who takes care of him (18).Furthermore,

of the world being safe and full of love is incredibly innocent as both things are not true. For a
child who is inexperienced and innocent in the world, it seems as if only love and safety exist.
While this is not true, these lines clearly illustrate the innocent love of a child. Likewise, in the

Guinea Worm Eradication Program ( Nigep )
Guinea worm has long been documented in Nigeria, yet despite the long term presence, there had
been little effort to quantify the burden or to prevent the disease until the inception of the Nigerian
Guinea Worm Eradication Program (NIGEP).6 NIGEP was developed with the goal of eliminating
guinea worm cases in Nigeria. However, this program also aimed to better understand the full
burden and distribution of the disease in Nigeria and to define a framework to begin to initiate
prevention measures for the disease.6
The announcement of the inception of NIGEP in 1988 was quite bold due to the lack of data on
the burden of guinea worm nationally and the lack of effort previously taken to prevent the
disease in Nigeria. What might explain a seemingly rash decision by the Ministry of Health, is
that a UNICEF sponsored study was released in 1987 documenting the high endemicity of guinea
worm in Nigeria and the loss of agricultural productivity that the country was facing.3 Following
this document, a Nigerian newspaper published a cover story on guinea worm and the need for
eradication in the country.3 From there on the Nigerian mass media seemed to incorporate guinea
worm into all modes of the media.3 Finally, the major push for the NIGEP occurred in 1989 when
former United States President Jimmy Carter travelled to Nigeria to meet the military president of
the country and the Sultan of Sokoto at an international conference in which the President of

New York. This article demonstrates the distinction between really living in riches and painting the
photo of living in riches . It indicates how the craftsman of the time envisioned Harlem and how
they made the general population trust that they were living in riches . This could help my
examination since it educates a considerable measure regarding how Harlem was around then, and
in addition, what number of the craftsman themselves lived amid the season of the Harlem

Iraq Synthesis Essay
Our organization Nature Iraq does really important work to support the Mesopotamian
Marshlands. Our work has changed the environment for the better. For thousands of years, the
marshlands influenced the culture by Giving them a flooded marsh that has animals to hunt like
fish for food. Also, the marshes provide the culture with fresh water and trading goods that the
culture makes. There are reeds in the marshes that the people use to make houses and blankets
so houses don t get cold. Also, the reeds are used to feed their buffalo and make food. Many
people in the marshlands will use boats to get the reeds so they can transport the reeds to people
who need them. They also can transport people who don t have The culture likes to fish and hunt

He did that by putting big huge canals next to the marshlands and draining out all of the water to
dump it into the Persian Gulf. His plan worked because his plan was to make the reeds go away,
the animals, the food, and also the people. The plan was amazing architecture work that probably
no one would have thought of. He also attacked the marshland with big weapons like the
holocausts by destroying the people of the marshlands homes, and forcing the people leave because
they don t have any homes. So after all of that the marsh land were completely destroyed except for
a very small part of the marshlands, Which changed the culture because the marshes were almost
like a desert and there was no animals, plants, and water. So the marshlands went to 6,000 acres
to 10% of that. Many of the people were mad and sad because they didn t have their homes. And
the culture didn t have their animals, reeds, water, and homes so it was very desperate for the

Federal Communication Commissions
The anticipation of the Federal Communication Commissions 2014 meeting to review media
ownership looms as 2013 approaches. With all the angst of a presidential election, the proverbial
line in the sand has been drawn. On one side consumer groups vie for support to restrict ownership
and on the opposing side are the media industries and its conglomerates opposing limitations and
demanding deregulation. According to the Telecommunications Act of 1996, the FCC is required
to meet every 4 years to review ownership rules to verify whether or not the media ownership rules
are in the public interest.
Legal Authority of the FCC and its History
The FCC administers all broadcasting and imposes the requirements for wire and wireless
communications through its rules and regulations. The archetypes for the FCC s broadcasting
regulations were formed before the Communications Act of 1934 by its predecessor the Federal
Radio Commission. Unequivocal jurisdiction over broadcast was not granted to the federal
government to exclusively regulate broadcast but a year prior to the establishment of the FCC the
Supreme Court inferred it as explicit and prohibited the states from obstructing its authority. Title I
of the 1934 Act defines many of the FCC s powers related to broadcasting. The title states that the
Act applies to all interstate and foreign communications by wire or radio. The FCC has jurisdiction
in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. possessions such as Puerto Rico,

Underage Drinking Essays
Automobiles are not ferocious.... it is man who is to be feared, as Robbins B. Stoeckel
remarked, enumerates a simple, yet fundamental concept a vehicle in itself is a relatively safe,
that is, until you put a person behind the controls. Further adding to the danger is the ever
prevalent risk of a fellow driver being impaired by the usage of alcohol; perhaps the only thing
that may make such a situation even more difficult and dangerous is one who is under the legal
alcohol drinking age. Fewer situations are more life threatening than when an underage driver has
been illegally consuming alcohol, yet persists in the belief that he or she retains the ability to drive
safely. Thoughts along this line are foolish at best and deadly at... Show more content on

Simply remarking that such a decision is dangerous fails to suffice as concrete evidence of the
negative effects of underage alcohol consumption, and so statistical evidence must be given.
Approximately five thousand underage drinkers die each year; the most prevalent cause is, not
surprisingly, motor vehicle accidents. What many do not understand is what other factors constitute
the other approximately three thousand; sixteen hundred to homicides, that is, murders and other
deliberate killings, as well as 300 to suicide, usually caused by an exacerbation of underlying
depression or other psychological difficulties. The remaining thousand are usually caused by such
grisly circumstances as falling, burning, and drowning. While this may seem a relatively small
number in the vast amounts of the twelve to twenty year old age group, estimates are that within
the past month one quarter of underage persons used alcohol, while two thirds of those were binge
drinkers. Not only does underage drinking increase the chance of dying in related incidents it
encourages other destructive behaviors: engage in sexual activities, carry a plethora of illegal
substances, and correlations have even been found that links underage drinking to poor
performance in school. Other observations have been made that negatively link underage drinking

Human Nature And Awareness Toward Environmental Protection
Many individuals are unaware of the harm that they cause to our planet. We live in a society
where we eat and use electricity without knowing where it comes from or what damage it might
cause to our planet. We have needs that do no make sense to the rest of the world. While some of
us enjoy our luxurious meals, other individuals are given little choice. Richer countries have been
accustomed to the point where many are unaware of the problems that they cause. The ecological
footprintis a very good tool to show us how we use our nature and raise awareness toward
environmental protection. After taking my ecological footprint quiz I was surprised that my
results were so poor. I think of myself who is environmentally stable. I do not litter by throwing
garbage on the streets, I even pick up any garbage that I see thrown in sanitary places. My
ecological footprint said that we would need 4.6 planets earths to provide enough resources if
everyone lived like me. This quiz educated me that I am not environmentally friendly as I think I
am. Also, in order to support my lifestyle it takes about 22.6 tons of carbon dioxide. My main cause
to this planet is my consumption of energy. Usually I drive about 70 miles everyday because I
commute to school. I never realized how much energy that takes until now. Driving is one of the
most polluting things that we do especially here in the United States. Consumption of gasoline can
release toxic wastes that can cause air pollution, which

TSA
TSA Paper
TSA, or Transportation Security Administration, needs to be improved. It is time consuming,
invasive and often ineffective because of pat downs and body scans. TSA is a major part of
American airport security. In a world where such precautions are necessary, the system should be
vastly upgraded to actually provide the security it claims to give.
Some children dream of acquiring X Ray vision as a superpower, but did it ever occur to them
that it strips a person of their rights and degrades them? Body scanners used in airports put
people in a vulnerable state as a naked image of them is captured. Another way TSA attacks an
individual s rights is when they are patted down in front of their family or friends and countless
strangers. This is the perfect opportunity for the worker to get handsy and grope an innocent
person waiting to get on a plane. On top of how invasive TSA is, it is also ineffective and
therefore abusing people s rights for an unbacked reason. According to a leaked internal report,

Government In Fahrenheit 451
Ray Bradbury s novel, Fahrenheit 451, depicts numerous ways the government controls the citizens
and their beliefs. The protective state that firemen are portrayed as in modern society is transformed
within this futuristic economy. This predominant bureaucracy downgrades books and the value of
having them in society. Governmentauthorities depict books as harmful and dangerous to
humankind, yet there are still very few people who realize how useful their insight can be to a
society. The importance of knowledge from books are illegalized within Fahrenheit 451, which
causes this dystopian society to believe they are of equal intelligence and happiness when in reality
it deprives the citizens of beneficial awareness.

Fahrenheit 451 states, The woman on the porch reached out with contempt to them all, and
struck the kitchen match against the railing (Bradbury p. 37). The unnamed woman, who
undoubtingly set herself and her books on fire, shows that the knowledge within books has great
importance. The woman decided to sacrifice her life for books instead of accepting the
consequences for owning them because she would rather die than to live in a world where books
do not exist. Montag thinks, There must be something in books, things we can t imagine, to make
a woman stay in a burning house; there must be something there. You don t stay for nothing
(Bradbury p. 48). This quote shows how Montag begins to question the beliefs of the controlling
administration. Montag establishes the belief that the woman attempts to make a stand against
the banning of books because she believes there would be more to life and self happiness with
books being in society. Montag states in the book, And for the first time I realized that a man was
behind each one of the books (Bradbury p. 49). Guy Montag is also beginning to realize that a
common person like himself wrote each piece of literature. The writers of the publications lived
through the horrid events and took the time to write about them. The roaming intellects at the end
of the novel also took the time to memorize peculiar parts of various books which demonstrates that

The Catiline Conspiracy Essays
Sallust, Cicero and the Catiline Conspiracy
Both the histories of Sallust and the orations of Cicero can be considered literary works, to a
degree. The War With Catiline, by Sallust and The First Speech Against Lucius Sergius Catilina, by
Cicero, both contain excellent examples of writings from the age of the great Roman Empire.
Although both are fantastic pieces depicting a time of tragedy, the Catiline Conspiracy against
Rome, and they both think Catiline as evil, the two are also different.

It is incredible to think of the many men who sided with Catiline and took up arms against their
own state, their own people, and even at times their own fathers. Catiline, as evil as he might have
been, was also a man of genius. For one to poison the minds of so many takes much talent of the
mind. Based on greed and jealousy of his loss in the running for consul against Cicero, he alone
developed a plan to destroy Rome. Followers of Catiline justified their rebellion and treason by
claiming they wanted a change. These men were those who wanted to gain riches by pillaging,
and to free themselves of debt through anarchic chaos. Catiline s biggest mistake might have been
that he was all too blatant and outright about his plan. He seemed to have been careless in who
overheard his discussions and whom he told. This ultimately led his plans to be discovered. He fled
from Rome where he fought in battle until his death.
Sallust recounts the history of the Catiline Conspiracy with much detail concerning who was
involved and the specific actions taken by both the conspirators and the Senate. Sallust tells it
almost as an exciting story where the good is fighting the evil.

Should nuclear weapons be abolished? How would removing and prohibiting nuclear weapons

particularly, nuclear bombs or warheads mounted on a long range ballistic missile; There is
plenty of controversy and argument over this topic. The world has had plenty of instances
where if nuclear bombs were not in play, The situation would have been a more peaceful

Music And The Negative Effects Of Heavy Metal Music
Heavy metal music is often criticized for being a negative influence due to the lyrical content and
aesthetics of the genre. For those unfamiliar with heavy metal, it is easy to make this correlation
because of the darker and often taboo subject matter present throughout the music. With a little
more analysis, however, it can be discovered that these same aspects thought to be negative actually
bring forth positive results among metal listeners. What is found in heavy metal musicis actually a
display of emotions and energy that often have a purging effect which helps listeners of metal cope
with the constantly changing world around them. Heavy metal is used as a tool for expressing
emotion in a nonviolent way, rather than through physical destruction sought by some other genres.
Heavy metal is a lot like an experiment to the people who do not understand it or those who
dislike it. They look at it as a disgrace, dissect it, run tests on it, and analyze the results in order to
get ammunition to put it down.
Researchers from the University of Queensland in Australia have found that when volunteers were
exposed to extreme music genres including heavy metal, emo, hardcore, punk, and screamo, they
actually experienced a range of positive feelings, such as calmness, happiness or being inspired.

The Cost-Volume-Profit Analysis
The cost volume profit analysis (CVP) is used to help companies determine breakeven points and
pricing for their products. It is a method of cost accounting ењЁased on determining the breakeven
point of cost and volume of goods and is useful for managers making short term economic decisions
(Investopedia, 2013).
The mechanism of CVP begins with the revenue, so the price point and the volume of units sold
(CliffNotes, 2013). A good way to understand the CVP analysis is using a simple income statement
example (Choo Tan, 2011) The example that will be used here is a one product small company
Acme, which makes ball bearings. The cost of producing one ball bearing is six cents. The
objective for Acme in using CVP analysis is to determine how many ball bearings it must sell at
its normal price in order to breakeven. Suppose its fixed costs are $100,000. If the normal price for
a ball bearing is twenty cents that is the variable cost. The contribution is the revenue variable
cost, so in this case 14 cents. The breakeven point is 100,000 / 0.14 = 714,286 ball bearings.
There are a few different ways that the company can gain competitive advantage using the CVP
method and the information that it generates about the business. The first thing the company can
learn is with respect to pricing. The company needs to sell 714,286 ball bearings, so it will only
produce ball bearings if it thinks that it can sell that many. If the company does not believe that it
can sell enough

Ransom on the High Seas: The case of Piracy in Somalia
The pirates in the coast of Somalia came to activity at the start of 2003. The main reason that
provoked local Somalis to start attacking foreign cargo ships was the civil war that broke out in
1991. The Somali Civil War leads to an unstable government that lacked on authority, leadership
and control to stop the rising attacks between local groups. From there, Somalia went on downhill;
its population decreased over two thirds from 1991 to 2011 and by 2008, the United Nations

As we can see this is clearly not the best option for ISC to take, as there are not any advantages at
all from it. Another factor that we have to take into consideration if the negotiation is not carried
out is the mere fact that ISC does not have any insurance against pirates on the ship that has been
captured, placing them in a very delicate situation.
Another possible idea that Martin had was to negotiate using the force. As I have just mentioned
before, dealing with pirates is a very delicate situation and any drastic move can lead to the death
of the hostages. If the negotiation does not go as well as ISC would like to, they could apply the
force from different sources (military, government or private) and solve this problem. Nevertheless,
if this plan does not work out to perfection, the pirates will discover this threat and kill the hostages
as a message to future negotiations (you have to remember they have nothing to loose whilst you
have millions of dollars in hands).
In addition, Martin s third option involved the U.S. Navy Ship that was fast approaching Odyssey

Minimum Benefits Of Minimum Wages
Minimum wages are described as the minimum amount of remuneration that an employer is
required to pay wage earners for the work/services performed during a given tenure, which cannot
be reduced by collective agreement or an individual contract . Minimum wages can be established
by statute, competent decision authority, a wageboard, a wage council, or by industrial or labour
courts.
The significance of minimum wages is to shield workers against disproportionately low pay.

living wage to all who are employed and in need of such protection. Minimum wages can also be a

In both cases of minimum wage, there is an overall increase in labour supply and an overall
reduction in demand of labour. Hence, implementing or increasing minimum wage results in loss of
jobs theoretically. However, it also relies on the country s economic activity which may or may not

Listening And Classical Music At An Early Age Helps Make...
Introduction
The Mozart Effect is the concept that listening to classical music at an early age helps make
children smarter. It has long been held that learning a musical instrument also helps develop the
brain differently, and can improve math ability specifically. Over the past two decades people have
wondered whether or not the Mozart effect really works. Will listening to classical musicor learning
how to play an instrument increase a person s intelligence? If so, how does it affect a person s
intelligence? Dean Keith Simonton presented a chart in The Science of Genius, both Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven were considered geniuses and they are both
composers of classical music. This article made me think what if listening to classical music
affects a person s intelligence, or could learning to play an instrument help a person s
intelligence? Also, what led me to this area of investigation was that my dad always played
classical music for me since I was born, and when I had to take an IQ test I scored a 132, so I
wanted to know if listening to classical music over the years has helped me to become smarter.
The Mozart effect can improve a person s spatial memory after listening to classical music for
about fifteen minutes a day, every day.
Analysis Evaluation According to Wagner for the Womb, written by Rosalind Lai, music has been

Analysis Of The Film Prey
I believe the film Prey should be allowed to be broadcasted on television. The movie is about a
small family, who travels to Africa so the father can continue his career as a hydro electrical
engineer and build a dam. Ultimately, the father s two children are forced to go on a safari with
only their stepmother. Tensions are high between the teenage daughter and her stepmother, due to
the father s divorce from her biological mother. During this safari, the ranger decides to take the
familyoffroading. Soonly after, the son has to use the bathroom, and the ranger takes him outside.
As this scene takes place, a lion jumps out of the grass and murders the ranger. The son escapes
back to the ranger s vehicle, where the family waits for days as lions... Show more content on

Both the ranger, native hunter, and the big game hunter are mauled visibly. As this terror
happens, very fake blood squirts all over the screen, but there isn t any gruesome body pictures
shown until scavengers have made the human unrecognizable. The camera often cuts away from
the attack, before any horrific images cover the screen. It gives the audience the message of a
traumatizing attack, without showing how bad it really is. The context of the movie is about
survival, not murder. It depicts how dangerous nature can be, especially in a place like Africa.
Until there is accurate research regarding violent program s effects on people, I don t believe
something shouldn t be broadcasted unless it is immensely inappropriate or inhumane. Our
textbook, even explains that violent behavior blamed on the media, can often be tied to other
variables and not just a specific program on television or radio. Overall, Prey isn t any more
outrageous or controversial than any other type of movie broadcasted. It has violence, but a
majority of mature movies do these days. It wouldn t be fair for me to deny this movie, when the
message it portrays is realistic and not shoved down the audience s

Cardiac Improper Documentation
Cardiac Rehab Improper Documentation
Documentation in the medical field is a vital component to providing quality care and maintaining a
consistent care plan. There must be policies in place to protect proper documentation to maintain a
high standard of care for patients. Documentation allows for a detailed history of care and displays
methods that were successful to better direct the care plan of patients. Documentation provides
structure for care plans, hospital policies are care plans for units to maintain order and provide
structure for efficiency and high functionality. To maintain an optimally functioning unit there must
be proper documentation for each patient, as well as policies that are enforced to keep
documentation consistent, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cardiac rehab center has two systems when charting individual interactions. Initially when a
patient is admitted into the program the nurse interviews the patient and creates a hand written care
plan; the nurse manager has directed that all revisions must be on this report. The second
documentation method is electronic charting which is used in every session where the patients are
supervised on a telemetry monitoring system while exercising to make sure the patient is in safe
parameters. Although the nurses write a narrative note of changes in medication, diet compliance,
and appointments; the issue lies in the fact that the information on the electronic system does not
get transferred over to the physical care plan. Care plans are unable to become revised because of
missing documentation that allows the practitioner to measure successful and unsuccessful
treatment. The patients cannot receive the best care possible because of the inability to build onto
previous care. In addition, other care providers cannot continue care for patients without building a
foundation for themselves of assessments because of the lack of information on the patient. With
the unit having a slight majority of elders if the center were to become audited by Medicare with
the lack of documentation for each patient the program could lose

What Is The Malfunction Essay
Thursday the 31st of August, I, Heather Scott had the pleasure and privilege to do an external
clinical rotation at the army base Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. During orientation, we were
flattered to be told that by doing so we are providing a service for our country.
I saw four soldiers as my patients. The dentist would do a brief external and internal exam,
palpating lymph nodes and checking pocket depths. I hand scaled and used the cavitron when
working with all my patients. I polished, flossed and applied a melon flavored varnish sealant. I
disliked that the polish was not fine grit, and would have to research and provide such evidence if
I were to ever to be responsible myself for the best care of patients. Somewhere along my ... Show

My patient and I discussed ways to manage flossing with a lingual retainer as my patient stated he
dislikes flossing. He seemed very receptive to the idea of a water flosser. Another patient was very
interested that he could prevent decay from progressing into a cavity that would require a filling, if
he were to follow my instructions in how not to just stick the floss straight in between the teeth. I
showed him how the floss can hug the tooth and glide into the gums and not hurt.
This opportunity, having been given leeway to just do, allowed me to realize that I would be able
to appreciate the use of my loupes. All other times, when smothered in my personal protective
equipment, I could never imagine adding one more ounce of equipment to my person and the
inevitability of its malfunction. My loupes and their usage have always been seen only as
another hindrance in situations where I am already uncomfortable and unsure. Due to the light
calculus levels seen in the patents I was given to work with, I see the need for best conditions,
such as light and malfunction. I am eager to go back, bring and use my loupes, and wipe them
down with Sani Cloths. I see how quickly I could work with no fear of is this right? Given my
own slack to just my job, I could easily get through a patient s cleaning within an hour. I liked
how I was just able to grab whatever instrument I had and find a way to make it work. I enjoyed

Clara Barton Physical Description
I got to know my saint, Clarissa Harlow Barton through a variety of mediums. These included
books from the Regis College library as well as online articles, poems, biography videos and
documentaries. Along with these various sources I found through my research images of Clara.
These images ranged from self portraits at different ages in her life to her working in the field as
well as teaching students in a classroom. Clarissa Harlow Barton was born on December 25th of
1821, in North Oxford, Massachusetts which was located 50 miles West of Boston. Her parents
were Stephen and Sarah Barton and her four siblings were Dorothea,Stephen, David, and Sally. Her

She was described as short, plump, and homely, she had yet to gain the character that would
render her face so interesting according to her parents and siblings. Clara s mother also
neglected the child s thick lustrous dark brown hair which was noted to be her one good feature.
Her hair was close cropped which only served to emphasize her broad forehead and sallow
complexion. Along with this, Clara had a speech impediment which caused her to lisp and this
lead to increasing her bashfulness. Due to all of these difficult things Clara had to deal with on
a daily basis, her timidness grew to be excessive. Clara s mother regarded her daughter as shy
and troublesome as well as difficult to manage this attitude only reinforced Clara s own sense of
being a burden. As she began to grow older, Clara gained a particular interest in helping others
that could not help themselves and directly alleviating sickness or trouble. Her brother David
grew extremely ill and sought to his sister for help. She spent large amounts of time trying to
nurse her brother back to health. Clara refused to leave his side for nearly two years and
acquiescing to his demands that she alone administer his medicine. Despite all of her relief Clara

Cons Of Abortion
The pros of abortion can be considered only if you been rape or if the ladies who is pregnant has
a high risk pregnancy or if the ladies are having a teenage pregnancy. Rape is horrible but abortion
can be so helpful to these ladies because the mothers have the right to get an abortion since they
went through rape and a tough time in their lives. Not only are the lady s victims but so are the
baby because there not a punishment to their mothers. The pros of getting an abortiondue to rape
can help these ladies and but, this awful memory behind them and get to move on with their life
s. Many people agree that is only right to get an abortion if ladies get rape so they can avoid the
trauma they got while getting rape so they can have faster recovery time. If they don t get an
abortion there just going to live with the trauma and it can affect the baby s life and the mother

U.s. History And American History
US HISTORY
FINAL PAPER
Throughout the history of the United States from the 1500 s to 1865 a number of enduring motifs
played out that shaped the future of the country. This is the place in time where the origins of
racist ideologies can be traced back to the introduction of slavery to the American agricultural
system in order to justify its malicious immorality. The 1500 s also saw the infancy of the
specialization of the different regional economies of America to capitalize on what was closely
available and abundant, and scarce and needed in another region; and by the 1860 s those regional
economies had developed into behemoths that exported their products on large scales, not only
domestically but internationally as well. But the most important theme of U.S. history from the
1500 s to 1865 was expansion, from Europe to colonial America, and then the westward expansion
of the United States. I believe the theme of expansion is so integral to American history because it
incorporates elements of the previous two themes (racism and racist ideologies, and specialized
regional development) into it; the European colonial expansion is where the regional economies
and values where first developed and still exist, in some aspects, to this day. This theme is also so
important because the differing opinions on how to carry out the westward expansion of the United
States, specifically whether the new states would slave states or free states, eventually became so
contentious and

The Issue Of Anthropogenic Climate Change
Is mankind going to willingly make life on Earth miserable for the next generation? Our climate is
changing due to humanity s irresponsible actions, and many are just living their lives as if nothing
is going on. The issue of anthropogenic, or human caused climate change has arose due to the
increase in carbon dioxideand other greenhouse gasses in our atmosphere. Of these, Carbon dioxide
is a huge culprit in anthropogenic climate change, as humans produce incredible amounts of it
through environmentally irresponsible machines. Also, the issue of anthropogenic climate change
is becoming a political issue, with the main argument being over regulation of businesses to
reduce carbon output. Whether humans are politically active or not, they need to realize that
anthropogenic climate change is a real issue and begin to fix it. To realize that the issue of
anthropogenic climate change is true and begin to fix it, the population of Earth must understand
the evidence of the crisis, the effects of the crisis, and how it can be fixed. There is undeniable
proof of anthropogenic climate change. We are only contributing to the issue, despite having
known about the issue of anthropogenic climate change for years. According to the Carbon
Dioxide Information Analysis Center, The atmospheric carbon dioxide levels are rising, causing
climate change to worsen. According to NASA, the levels of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere
were at 400.57 Parts Per Million in August, with the level in

Smallpox Research Paper
Smallpox
Smallpox is a highly contagious and fatal disease; there is no treatment available to smallpox, and
the only way to avoid this infection is through primary prevention measures of vaccination.
Smallpox has two clinical forms, variola major (most common) and variola minor (least common)
with a fatality rate of 30% and 1% respectively. Variola major has four types of smallpox
, ordinary
(accounts for 90% of the cases), modified (occurs in vaccinated individuals), hemorrhagic (severe
and rare), and flat or malignant (rare and fatal). Smallpox has been declared eradicated by the
World Health Organization (WHO) in 1980, and vaccinationof the general public has stopped
shortly after; nevertheless, it is an agent of bioterrorism that is available in laboratory stockpiles
worldwide (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2004). ... Show more content on

King Congo King Analysis
King Leopold set his focus on the Congo because he wanted to rule a colony of his own,
something bigger than just little old Belgium, and the Congo provided that. It had waterways
that connected the land, as well as people that he could use as slaves. A book that he had read
titled Java, or How to Manage a Colony had sparked Leopold s interest for a colony of his own
(Hochschild, p. 37). According to the quote, In the mid 1870s, sub Saharan Africawas a logical place
for an aspiring colonialist to look...about 80% of the entire land area of Africa was still under
indigenous rulers. It was ripe for conquest or, as Leopold was now learning to say, for protection
(Hochschild, p. 42), this land was an opportunity for Leopold to finally build a colony; especially
after Stanley had found the CongoRiver during an expedition. Leopold s purpose was shaped by a
desire not only for money but for power (Hochschild, p. 39). The Congo s resources were rubber
and ivory, ivory was made into false teeth, or piano pieces, among other things and this produced
a lot of profits once sold. However, the profits for rubber were much higher than that of ivory.
The land itself provides the power that Leopold wanted. Leopold was successful in the sense that
he did become the ruler of the Congo, he did gain profits out it, he did have slaves that built
railways, as well as an army made majority of its own people, the natives. Leopold failed in the
sense that he thought the truth would never come to

The Importance Of Social Class In America
Social class largely affects the ways of life of all Americans These divisions of social class are
characterized by viewpoints, for example, lifestyle and income but education is a huge part of
deciding one s social class. That does not imply that it will decide a person s achievements but
with many individuals with higher education normally have better jobs with benefits and higher
wages too. Those of the privileged have higher education rather than those of middle and lower
class. Around 14% of mortgage holders are either behind on their home payments or are putting
up for foreclosure. The economic crash and foreclosure crisis that occurred in 2008 was not made
by one issue but rather a blend of issues. People obtained more than they could bear the cost of
however they were permitted, and now and again empowered, to do this by bankers which
institutions that should be helping the people to finance. The conviction that material belonging
enhances people s lives and social prosperity pervades in America. As opposed to this belief
different studies demonstrate that materialists contrasted with non materialists have individual and
social prosperity. Compulsive and impulsive shopping, debt, diminished savings overall decrease
the well being of people and other undesirable results have all been connected with materialistic
behavior. American materialism has found its ways to millions in America. Success is measured in
the materials and the social classa person is in. This does

  • 5. Antihero In Stuart Rosenberg s Cool Hand Luke Released in 1967, Stuart Rosenberg s Cool Hand Luke was like many other films of the time, and presented the main character as an antihero. An antihero is a protagonist of a story or film who exhibits unconventional superhero characteristics. Lucas Luke Jackson played Korean War veteran who was arrested for cutting the tops off of parking meters. He was sentenced to two years in a Florida prison camp. Underlying the hard bitten surface is a slightly uncomfortable allegory which identifies Newman as a Christ figure (Milnes, 142). Essay about Explanations of Personality Development Explanations of Personality Development According to Sigmund Freud, what we do and why we do it, who we are and how we became this way are all related to our sexual drive. Differences in personalities originate in differences in childhood sexual experiences. In the Freudian psychoanalytical model, child personality development is discussed in terms of psychosexual stages . In his Three Essays on Sexuality (1915), Freud outlined five stages of manifestations of the sexual drive: Oral, Anal, Phallic, Latency, and Genital. At each stage, different areas of the child s body become the focus of his pleasure and the principal source of sexual arousal. Differences in satisfying the sexual urges at each ... During the oral stage (birth to 18 months), the child if focused on oral pleasures (e.g. sucking). Too much or too little gratification can result in an Oral Fixation or Oral Personality, which is evidenced by an obsession with oral activities. This type of personality may have a stronger tendency to smoke, drink alcohol, over eat, or bite his or her nails. Personality wise, these individuals may become overly dependent upon others, gullible, and group followers. On the other hand, they may also fight these urges and develop negative personalities and aggression toward others. In the Anal Stage (18 months to three years), the child s focus of pleasure is on eliminating and retaining faeces. Through society s pressure, mainly via parents, the child has to learn to control anal stimulation. In terms of personality, after effects of an anal fixation during this stage can result in an obsession with cleanliness, perfection, and control (anal retentive). On the opposite end of the spectrum, they may become messy and disorganized (anal expulsive). The pleasure zone in Phallic Stage (ages three to six) switches to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

R. 2604 (2012): Help Separated Families Act of 2013 is a Federal bill introduced by Representative Lucille Roybal Allard, a Democrat in California s 40th District. After the introduction of this Federal bill it was referred to the Committee on Ways and Means: 113th Congress, 2013 2015. The bill, (H. This bill would ensure that immigrationstatus alone does not disqualify a relative from being a placement for a child whose parent (s) has been deported. Understanding the Problem Immigration issues have been in the news; and have been debated by politicians. Political parties over the years have been vocal in voicing their concerns about American immigration (Russit, 2013). The problem is if you are an undocumented immigrant and you are stopped by an arresting agency you will be detained and deported according to the current immigration policy (Russit, 2013). Russit (2013) explains the judicial branch of our Supreme Court has ruled over this issue for over four decades. They have determined the federal government has the exclusive power of regulating immigration. These powers are based on the Commerce Clause, Naturalization Clause, Migration and Importation Clause and the War Power Clause of Article I of the US Constitution. Compare And Contrast Leonardo And Raphael Elliott Gorman Professor Cangelose Art History 1304 N05 9 October 2017 Identify and Compare the works of two Artists Leonardo and Raphael Art is in the eye of the beholder, and everyone will have their own interpretation. E.A. Bucchianeri. Art is a beautiful construct and it has been seen as such and shall continue to be seen as such for generations to come. History has seen a vast number of extremely talented Artists, and while art may take new forms, its integrity shall remain unshifted. Two men in specific have contributed to art and its history like no other; Leonardo Da Vinci and Raphael Sanzio da Urbino. Both of these men, considered masters of their talents, have conceived some of the World s greatest artworks, but it is here that I would like to specifically examine, compare, and contrast the ideals of both man and his work in a self portrait from each their own. Leonardo s Portrait of a Man in Red Chalk and Raphael s Portrait of a Young Man. Leonardo and Raphael are perhaps two of the most interesting individuals in Art History. A man could spend a lifetime studying them and their works, and yet one would only be able to understand the complexity of their minds, but not the begging question of, Who truly is Leonardo or Raphael? . Perhaps, to begin to understand you might look deep into their art and view it, not as what you feel, but as what they felt. While art has always taken new forms, an Artist s personality is always seen manifested in his or her work. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The purpose is to develop a definition with the detail and clarity needed to guide reliable and valid research. The classic steps described by Walker and Avant (2011) are used for the analysis. Literature from several disciplines is reviewed including vocational psychology, Christian Career counseling, sociology, organizational management and nursing. The analysis provides an operational definition of ?a calling? to nursing and establishes three defining attributes of the concept: (a) a passionate intrinsic motivation or desire (perhaps with a religious component), (b) fulfillment of an aspiration for the work to provide meaningfulness or purpose in one?s life, and (c) helping other through caregiving. Antecedents to the concept are personal introspective and cognitive awareness. Positive consequences to the concept are improved work meaningfulness, work engagement, career commitment, personal well being and satisfaction. Negative consequences of having ?a calling? might include willingness to sacrifice wellbeing for work and problems with work life balance. Time is precious, and people are trying to cut corners in order to get things done faster. Most families have both parents working. After a long working day there is no desire to spend another couple of hours by the stove preparing dinner. The convenience of fast foodhas replaced most family s homemade meals. Because of this, many Americans, especially children, eat processed food every day. The usual menu consist of a sugary cereal for breakfast, a hot dog and chips for lunch, and chicken nuggets and fries for dinner. Such processed food has a little or no nutritional value, which is why it is often called junk food. But why would any parent feed junk to their children? Is the body a garbage disposal? Why do people choose unhealthy foods? The problem is that it is very cheap, tasty, and in most cases it does not require cooking, which saves people a lot of time and money. However, junk food should be taxed because of these three reasons. First, it causes people to be overweight which leads to many health problems. Second, taxing junk food will encourage people to choose a healthier diet. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 15. Brave New World And Brave New World The 1920 s and the 1930 s brought about many changes in the world such as financial fluctuations and advancements in technology. The novel Brave New World , by Aldous Huxley, and the short story There Will Come Soft Rains , by Ray Bradbury, gives an excellent presentation of futuristic elements and how world climate at the time affected how the author perceived the future. Both of these stories paint a picture of a world where technology has advanced to the point that it has negatively affected mankind. Using new historicism, this paper will explore the different ideas and thoughts of the authors and how they got influenced by the historical events happening in their time as well as the developing technologies. This paper will also explore how the two stories, even though written on different decades, are very similar in nature through their views, themes, and the ultimate effect on society. Huxley writes the novel Brave New Worldin 1931 around the time technology rapidly replaced workers jobs and made unemployment rates increase. This caused many people to take any job they could get such as factory work. • 16. The Modern Day Legal Systems Human civilization marked the beginning of modern day legal systems. The advancements in societies resulted in maintaining certain rules and regulations to continue this progress. Every society has its own set of laws which are in some ways distinct from others. Many of these laws have common sections and underlying guidelines. This could be because some societies decide to retain certain aspects of their customs after breaking out of another society. It could also be the case that over time different societies through trade and other intercultural activities developed together, which caused them to have agreements in their laws. For many others, it is the case that they share a common colonial master. The law and legal systems operating today are derivatives of the forms listed above. Like many other nations today, the laws of ancient civilizations have affected Canadian law. These include the Code of Hammurabi, the Mosaic law, Greek and Roman laws, the Magna Carta and a few others. More recently are the civil and common law derived from the French and British respectively. Canadadid not always have a written constitution. The territory we now refer to as Canada was once populated by the French and English colonial masters. These colonists extended the laws of their home countries to their colonies. • 18. The Development Of Nature And Nurture In Language Development The basis of language development theories revolves around the idea that, either nature or nurture are more influential than the other in the development of language in children. Language development as defined by, Menyuk, is the acquisition and growth of a societies chosen method of communication, which occurs due to a culmination of cognitive growth and environmental experiences (2005). Nature, is concerned with the biological makeup of an individual that influences their ability to acquire language including, genes and brain function, alternatively, nurture is environmental factors including, culture, family, and experiences (Fellows Oakley, 2014). Nature and nurture both play vital yet highly diverse roles in the acquisition of language and its development. Analysis of the process of language acquisition will reveal that both nature and nurture are vital for successful language development of children. The process by which language is learnt or acquired differs by theory, specifically two alternate perspectives display the basis of nature and nurture. The first theory to be discussed stems off the basis of nurture, the behaviourist theory. This theory draws upon the concept of nature, suggesting behaviour is learnt through experience and reinforced by rewards (Fellows Oakley, 2014). This perspective states children learn from and imitate their surroundings and they are rewarded by responses and the success of their communication, this is an exemplar of acquisition ... • 19. Margaret Atwood Variations On The Word Love Analysis Throughout the anthology of Canadian poetry, there is one main theme that ties all five poems together. A child s interpretation of love can be found within each poem despite their many differences. The first poem found in the anthology is Variations on the Word Love by Margaret Atwood.. In the first line, Atwood states, This is a word we use to plug / holes with . This line accurately depicts the use of the word love in today s society. Many people use the word no matter if they really love what they are speaking about. Though Atwood is not a child, this poem depicts the way the world can have an effect on what once was a pure and wholesome word when one was a child. Overall, this poem displays the transition of the meaning of love to a person as he ages. The second poem in the anthology is The Special Person by Dennis Lee. This poem is written from the point of view of a child at daycare and displays a child s accepting love for his carer. As Lynn, the child s carer, reads him stories and smells good when she picks [him] up , the child discovers his love for her (Lee 9). The child narrating the poem also states, I guess I m going to marry Lynn , exhibiting his love for the person who takes care of him (18).Furthermore, the child s interpretation of love is... Guinea Worm Eradication Program ( Nigep ) Guinea worm has long been documented in Nigeria, yet despite the long term presence, there had been little effort to quantify the burden or to prevent the disease until the inception of the Nigerian Guinea Worm Eradication Program (NIGEP).6 NIGEP was developed with the goal of eliminating guinea worm cases in Nigeria. However, this program also aimed to better understand the full burden and distribution of the disease in Nigeria and to define a framework to begin to initiate prevention measures for the disease.6 The announcement of the inception of NIGEP in 1988 was quite bold due to the lack of data on the burden of guinea worm nationally and the lack of effort previously taken to prevent the disease in Nigeria. What might explain a seemingly rash decision by the Ministry of Health, is that a UNICEF sponsored study was released in 1987 documenting the high endemicity of guinea worm in Nigeria and the loss of agricultural productivity that the country was facing.3 Following this document, a Nigerian newspaper published a cover story on guinea worm and the need for eradication in the country.3 From there on the Nigerian mass media seemed to incorporate guinea worm into all modes of the media.3 Finally, the major push for the NIGEP occurred in 1989 when former United States President Jimmy Carter travelled to Nigeria to meet the military president of the country and the Sultan of Sokoto at an international conference in which the President of Nigeria, Ibrahim Babangida, ... The remaining thousand are usually caused by such grisly circumstances as falling, burning, and drowning. While this may seem a relatively small number in the vast amounts of the twelve to twenty year old age group, estimates are that within the past month one quarter of underage persons used alcohol, while two thirds of those were binge drinkers. The woman decided to sacrifice her life for books instead of accepting the consequences for owning them because she would rather die than to live in a world where books do not exist. • 39. The Cost-Volume-Profit Analysis The cost volume profit analysis (CVP) is used to help companies determine breakeven points and pricing for their products. It is a method of cost accounting ењЁased on determining the breakeven point of cost and volume of goods and is useful for managers making short term economic decisions (Investopedia, 2013). The mechanism of CVP begins with the revenue, so the price point and the volume of units sold (CliffNotes, 2013). A good way to understand the CVP analysis is using a simple income statement example (Choo Tan, 2011) The example that will be used here is a one product small company Acme, which makes ball bearings. The cost of producing one ball bearing is six cents. The objective for Acme in using CVP analysis is to determine how many ball bearings it must sell at its normal price in order to breakeven. Suppose its fixed costs are $100,000. If the normal price for a ball bearing is twenty cents that is the variable cost. The contribution is the revenue variable cost, so in this case 14 cents. The breakeven point is 100,000 / 0.14 = 714,286 ball bearings. There are a few different ways that the company can gain competitive advantage using the CVP method and the information that it generates about the business. The first thing the company can learn is with respect to pricing. The company needs to sell 714,286 ball bearings, so it will only produce ball bearings if it thinks that it can sell that many. If the company does not believe that it can sell enough ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main reason that provoked local Somalis to start attacking foreign cargo ships was the civil war that broke out in 1991. The Somali Civil War leads to an unstable government that lacked on authority, leadership and control to stop the rising attacks between local groups. From there, Somalia went on downhill; its population decreased over two thirds from 1991 to 2011 and by 2008, the United Nations estimated that nearly 3.2 million Somalis were dependent on food aid for survival. As we can see this is clearly not the best option for ISC to take, as there are not any advantages at all from it. Another factor that we have to take into consideration if the negotiation is not carried out is the mere fact that ISC does not have any insurance against pirates on the ship that has been captured, placing them in a very delicate situation. Another possible idea that Martin had was to negotiate using the force. As I have just mentioned before, dealing with pirates is a very delicate situation and any drastic move can lead to the death of the hostages. If the negotiation does not go as well as ISC would like to, they could apply the force from different sources (military, government or private) and solve this problem. Nevertheless, if this plan does not work out to perfection, the pirates will discover this threat and kill the hostages as a message to future negotiations (you have to remember they have nothing to loose whilst you have millions of dollars in hands). In addition, Martin s third option involved the U.S. Navy Ship that was fast approaching Odyssey (ISC ship captured by the pirates) to rescue the three American crewmembers that were held hostage. Minimum Benefits Of Minimum Wages Minimum wages are described as the minimum amount of remuneration that an employer is required to pay wage earners for the work/services performed during a given tenure, which cannot be reduced by collective agreement or an individual contract . Minimum wages can be established by statute, competent decision authority, a wageboard, a wage council, or by industrial or labour courts. The significance of minimum wages is to shield workers against disproportionately low pay. It has long been held that learning a musical instrument also helps develop the brain differently, and can improve math ability specifically. Over the past two decades people have wondered whether or not the Mozart effect really works. Will listening to classical musicor learning how to play an instrument increase a person s intelligence? If so, how does it affect a person s intelligence? Dean Keith Simonton presented a chart in The Science of Genius, both Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven were considered geniuses and they are both composers of classical music. This article made me think what if listening to classical music affects a person s intelligence, or could learning to play an instrument help a person s intelligence? Also, what led me to this area of investigation was that my dad always played classical music for me since I was born, and when I had to take an IQ test I scored a 132, so I wanted to know if listening to classical music over the years has helped me to become smarter. The Mozart effect can improve a person s spatial memory after listening to classical music for about fifteen minutes a day, every day. The context of the movie is about survival, not murder. It depicts how dangerous nature can be, especially in a place like Africa. Until there is accurate research regarding violent program s effects on people, I don t believe something shouldn t be broadcasted unless it is immensely inappropriate or inhumane. Our textbook, even explains that violent behavior blamed on the media, can often be tied to other variables and not just a specific program on television or radio. Initially when a patient is admitted into the program the nurse interviews the patient and creates a hand written care plan; the nurse manager has directed that all revisions must be on this report. The second documentation method is electronic charting which is used in every session where the patients are supervised on a telemetry monitoring system while exercising to make sure the patient is in safe parameters. Although the nurses write a narrative note of changes in medication, diet compliance, and appointments; the issue lies in the fact that the information on the electronic system does not get transferred over to the physical care plan. Care plans are unable to become revised because of missing documentation that allows the practitioner to measure successful and unsuccessful treatment. The patients cannot receive the best care possible because of the inability to build onto previous care. • 49. U.s. History And American History US HISTORY FINAL PAPER Throughout the history of the United States from the 1500 s to 1865 a number of enduring motifs played out that shaped the future of the country. This is the place in time where the origins of racist ideologies can be traced back to the introduction of slavery to the American agricultural system in order to justify its malicious immorality. The 1500 s also saw the infancy of the specialization of the different regional economies of America to capitalize on what was closely available and abundant, and scarce and needed in another region; and by the 1860 s those regional economies had developed into behemoths that exported their products on large scales, not only domestically but internationally as well. But the most important theme of U.S. history from the 1500 s to 1865 was expansion, from Europe to colonial America, and then the westward expansion of the United States. I believe the theme of expansion is so integral to American history because it incorporates elements of the previous two themes (racism and racist ideologies, and specialized regional development) into it; the European colonial expansion is where the regional economies and values where first developed and still exist, in some aspects, to this day. This theme is also so important because the differing opinions on how to carry out the westward expansion of the United States, specifically whether the new states would slave states or free states, eventually became so contentious and ... Our climate is changing due to humanity s irresponsible actions, and many are just living their lives as if nothing is going on. The issue of anthropogenic, or human caused climate change has arose due to the increase in carbon dioxideand other greenhouse gasses in our atmosphere. Of these, Carbon dioxide is a huge culprit in anthropogenic climate change, as humans produce incredible amounts of it through environmentally irresponsible machines. Also, the issue of anthropogenic climate change is becoming a political issue, with the main argument being over regulation of businesses to reduce carbon output. Whether humans are politically active or not, they need to realize that anthropogenic climate change is a real issue and begin to fix it. To realize that the issue of anthropogenic climate change is true and begin to fix it, the population of Earth must understand the evidence of the crisis, the effects of the crisis, and how it can be fixed. There is undeniable proof of anthropogenic climate change. We are only contributing to the issue, despite having known about the issue of anthropogenic climate change for years. It had waterways that connected the land, as well as people that he could use as slaves. A book that he had read titled Java, or How to Manage a Colony had sparked Leopold s interest for a colony of his own (Hochschild, p. 37). According to the quote, In the mid 1870s, sub Saharan Africawas a logical place for an aspiring colonialist to look...about 80% of the entire land area of Africa was still under indigenous rulers. It was ripe for conquest or, as Leopold was now learning to say, for protection (Hochschild, p. 42), this land was an opportunity for Leopold to finally build a colony; especially after Stanley had found the CongoRiver during an expedition. Leopold s purpose was shaped by a desire not only for money but for power (Hochschild, p. 39). The Congo s resources were rubber and ivory, ivory was made into false teeth, or piano pieces, among other things and this produced a lot of profits once sold. However, the profits for rubber were much higher than that of ivory. The land itself provides the power that Leopold wanted.
