Before exploring and applying to ECU s Clinical Counseling with an emphasis in Substance
Abuse master s program, I was under the assumption that individuals could only receive
counseling from a psychologist or psychiatrist. Obviously, I was wrong. I was drawn to ECU s
counseling program because of their emphasis on substance abuse. Having family members and
friends struggling with substance abuse was one of the main reasons for me to go into counseling.
