Type 4 Pili Research Paper
Bacterial pili have been well studied for their structure, function, and genetics. However, little is
known about the structure and function of archaeal pili. Current research has begun to focus on the
archaeal pilus and its relatedness to bacterial pili, particularly the bacterial type IV pilus. Using
genetic and microscopy techniques, these studies have shown comparative evidence for the
differences, as well as homology, between archaeal and bacterial type IV pili. These results suggest
there may be an evolutionary divergence from a common ancestral function and origin.
Introduction
Bacteria have several different types of pili, known and classified based on their structure and
assembly. Similarly, archaeahave different appendages that ... Show more content on

not homologues of any type IV pili system in bacteria or archaea, it is known that a encoded

eppA is a prepilin peptidase (1). Interestingly, M. maripaludis, also utilizes EppA, which is a
specific prepilin peptidease that only works when the archaellins are being being processed (1).
The organization of the archaeal type IV operon for pili biosynthesis could potentially indicate
various functions in for the pilin proteins and others involved (3). This presents difficulties if the
functions, as they are in M. maripaludis, are unknown and tough to predict due to their variance
and difference in quantity of genes compared to other known operons. As each of the archaea pilin
subunits are known to change and can be slightly different from species species, the regulations are
also changing and the pilins will code for an array of functions (3,

Propaganda During The Great War
The Great War was not only fought with tanks, U boats, and trench warfare, but it was a war of
propaganda. Propaganda from both sides was used throughout the Great War to help try and
shape the opinions of each embattled nation. This total war did not just require innovative
weapons, but also innovative and at times even deceptive propaganda. The British, Germans and
United States governments specifically, invested a lot of resources into propaganda as a way to
increase recruitment numbers, build international support, and instill a sense of confidence in
what was the Great War. Countries had to not just focus their efforts on getting people from their
own country to support them, but also neutral countries, as well as having to focus on the
enemies by use of atrocity propaganda. In turn, this led to governments tampering with the
human will, and even using deceit, all in an effort to help solidify their sides victory. In turn,
propaganda played a vital role in the Great War and additionally created an everlasting influence
on both war and media in the world today. Unlike previous wars, this war required not just
millions of men to serve their own countries, but it required the support of all civilians to help play
a role in the war efforts. M.L Saunders stated During the war, sections of the community which has
previously remained uninvolved in the exigencies of national survival had found themselves
directly affected by events at the front line. Life changed for

The Benefits Of A College Education
In the past, the majority of people never thought that they had to obtain a college degree to
become successful. Nowadays, a college degree is the most crucial item sought after by
employers and is necessary to become successful. It is easy to think that it is a piece of cake to be
successful without a collegeeducation. I mean Bill Gates, Will Smith, Abraham Lincoln, and
Henry Ford were all very successful. However, that was years ago and the age of college
dropouts are over. There is no denying that earning a degree will increase your chances at a better
life. Don t get me wrong, there are many hardships that you will experience through your college
journey. Many students are not prepared for college life. The emotional toll that... Show more

The financial hardships will push you to the edge. Everyone told me in high school that you will
receive so many scholarships and so I never would have thought that in my first year of college
that I would already be $5,500 in debt. The bad thing about FASFA too, is that they depend
solely on how much your parents make. Most of the time money that the parent makes doesn t
not end up in their child s college fund. The cost of college compared to how much young adults
can make is mind boggling. Students have to make the decision whether or not they want to
spend the majority of time working or going to school. A full time student earns about 15 credit
hours a semester and every teacher says that you have to spend 3 hours outside of class studying
and doing assignments. For the average full time student this means that 45 hours our spent on
school work. A typical full time employee works 40 hours. Together this is 84 hours and there
are only 168 hours in the week. Even part time employees struggle with balancing the two. 4 out
of 5 students work part time to try and keep their head above the water that is their growing debt.
However, a college degree is necessary if you want to be successful. The other option is to work
years and years in the same company trying to move up the ladder, but really there is no promise of
success. My dad has worked at GE for 35 years and this year they were bought out by Haer. Haer

The intellectual centre of Islam is Al Azhar in Cairo. The ideas and attitudes taught here are spread
throughout the ummah, particularly through the population centers of Islam: Indonesia, Pakistan,
Bangladesh, India and Malaysia. The relative power of the different centers is shifting. Over time
the claims on and against the heartland from and by the peripheral Muslim communities will
exacerbate the tensions already present. The conservative centre will be under greater pressure
from the more vigorous, prolific and liberal Muslim societies on the periphery. Despite the
increased prominence of Islam, its history remains obscured by the focus on its role in current
events. Through the actions of its radical elements, many Muslims feel the tenants of the faith have
been distorted (Aslan, 2005, p. 1).
Trying to live successfully in the modern world, being independent and according to Islamic
principles, Muslim countries have been talking about a great deal the significance of the role of
education and the importance of mastering Western science and Technology. Already in the 19th
century, certain Muslim countries such as Egypt, Ottoman Turkey and Persia established
institutions of higher learning where the modern sciences and especially medicine were taught. All

Preserving Cut Flowers with Different Solutions
Objective:
The experiment aims to investigate how the cut Gerbera could be extended the life by adding a
series of solutions, and to account for the underlying reasons for the extension. It also provides
insight into the effectiveness of different flower foods and the role of bleach in the whole system.
Abstract:
Six Cut flowers (Number. 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, and 8) were placed in different vases from 10th March
2011 to 25th March 2011. Solution 1 and 2 which contained water and water mix bleach can last
for at least 8 days. Solution 5 and 6 which contained lemon juice and sugar were tending to last for
longer for 10 days or more. Solution 7 and 8 can only last for 4 5 days since Coca Cola, bleach and
warm water were added.
Introduction: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The results revealed that solution 5 which was the mix of lemon juice and sugar allowed the
flower to have the longest lifespan, while solution 7 which was the mix of Coca Cola and water,
was the first to wilt.
Bleach
The main chemical component of bleach is Sodium Hypochlorite (NaOCI), which can unravel the
bacterial protein chains so that it inhibits the growth of bacterial in the solution. The solutions
(Solution 2, 6, 8) containing bleach could at least survive for 5 days. However, bleach contains
toxic gas which is harmful for organism as well; therefore, the solutions 2, 6, 8 were not the one
lasted for the longest period when compared with other solutions.
Fresh lemon juice
Lemon juice contains citric acid and niacin, which enhance the water permeability of the gerbera s
stem and kill the germs effectively. Gerbera of solution 5 had the longest lifespan since the solution
contained lemon juice that successfully killed the germs and helped improve the water
permeability. Lemon juice is not harmful for the flowers and thus, solution 5 and 6 which contained
lemon juice can have the longest lifetime.
Sugar
Sugar nourishes the flowers, helps blooms last longer. For solution 5 and 6, a table spoon of
sugar was added. Solution 5 can last the longest since sugar and lemon juice were added, while
sugar provided food sources to gerbera and lemon juice helped kill the bacteria. Although

a troublemaker or an arrogant person, but does not see the point of doing something valueless.
The only issue is that she has absolutely no idea what she wants to do and feels trapped by the

recognizes she needs to take charge but she has no idea where to even start. She questions if she

My Summer Camp
It was the last day of my summer camp, the night before my Boy Scout troop would pack all
their gear and leave the coast of the Puget Sound, and go back to the suburbia where most of the
kids in the troop lived. The last day of summer camp, at least at Camp Parsons, was the
Hullabaloo. The Hullabaloo was a great gathering of all the patrols, in a large grass covered
area, bordering a beach and then the Puget Sound. The whole area was dotted with green trees,
and was overlooked by a very large cabin like building, which acted as the meal room for all the
troops at camp. The cabin like building was a dark brown, built on the outside with logs, but on
the inside a sort of insulated faux log. The inside was very spacious and lined up along the walls
were about 50 long tables for the various troops at camp. Even in this large room, there wasn t
always enough space to fit the scouts from all the troops, so it was safe to say that my patrol had
a lot of competition. All the patrols would compete for a trophy (a carved block of wood, painted
yellow and with the purple letters CP stating: FIRST PLACE). Each troopusually has more than
one patrol, each patrol being about 5 10 people, so my troop (of about 25 people) had two. When
we were all let loose from the cabin like meal house to compete in various team building activities
and compete in stations set around the camp (stations such as fire starting, knotting, and building
shelters), my patrol started sprinting over the hills and

Mcdonald s A Fast Food Hamburger Chain
( McDonald s Wordmark ) ( McDonald s Prix ) ( Nos Menus ) By: Austin Gardner 2 1 January
28, 2015 Ms. Chalmers Introduction McDonald s is a multinational fast food hamburger chain.
The company was founded in 1940 by two brothers named Maurice and Richard McDonald (
McDonald s ). McDonald s currently has over 35,000 restaurants and serve over 68 million
customers a day on average ( History of ). The fast food giant makes 28 billion dollars annually,
and are the largest fast food chain in the world ( McDonald s ). That calculates to 75 million
dollars a day, which is unreal. This paper will examine the working conditions of the employees.
( McDonald s Across the World ) History In 1937 Richard and Maurice s father decided to open a
food stand as a hobby ( History of ). Orange juice and hamburgers were sold below market price (
History of ) In fact, burgers were originally sold for only 15 cents (Gilbert, 8). After three years,
the two brothers realized that their father s business was actually very profitable. Richard and
Maurice decided to lease a building and open up a drive in restaurant, to make larger production
possible; they named it McDonald s Bar B Q and the soon to be fast food giant had begun (
History of ). The restaurant the brothers opened was a drive in, and was an instant hit. In 1948, the
McDonald brothers decided that it was time to open a sit down restaurant in which their main
priority was efficiency ( History

Internet And Internet Relationships
Numerous studies have been conducted on various facets of Internet relationships, focusing on the
levels of intimacy, closeness, different communication modalities, and the frequency of use of
computer mediated communication (CMC). However, contradictory results are suggested within
this research because only certain aspects of CMC are investigated, for example, email only.
Cummings, Butler, and Kraut (2002) suggest that face to face (FtF) interactions are more effective
than CMC (read: email) in creating feelings of closeness or intimacy, while other studies suggest the
opposite. To understand how both online (Internet) and offline (non Internet) relationships are
affected by CMC, all forms of CMC should be studied. This paper examines Cummings et al. s
research against other CMC research to propose that additional research be conducted to better
understand how online communication affects relationships. Literature Review In Cummings et al.
s (2002) summary article reviewing three empirical studies on online social relationships, it was
found that CMC, especially email, was less effective than FtF contact in creating and maintaining
close social relationships. Two of the three reviewed studies focusing on communication in non
Internet and Internet relationships mediated by FtF, phone, or email modalities found that the
frequency of each modality s use was significantly linked to the strength of the particular
relationship (Cummings et al., 2002). The

Native Title Case Study
Law reform in relation to Native Title has developed and become testament to the growing justice
for the ATSI community, however effective mean and complete justice is yet to be achieved. From
the changing values and attitudes of society, alongside conditions of social change and new
concepts of justice ATSI justice is being implemented, with law reform. With seminal cases alike
Mabo and Wik, legislation has been delegated and changed accordingly; with the recognition of
Native titlefinally succeeding in overturning the terra nullius doctrine, which for centuries has
damaged and hurt the ATSI peoples. Despite this, with the Wik decision and largely the 10 point

With the change from Keatings progressive labour government to John Howard s conservative
Coalition government, came resounding regression to the Native Title act, with the 10 point plan,
and the coinciding Wik decision nine months after. The Wik VS Queensland case (1996)
established that in cases of conflict between pastoral leases and native title, pastoral leases override
and can successfully extinguish native title , which was adopted with the change of legislation and
introduction of the Native Title amendment Act (1998). If there is no conflict, they can coexist.
Many cases of Native Title extinguishment has occurred, and only approximately 600 areas hold
Native Title in all of Australia, with less than 1% in NSW. As a procession from the Native Title
declaration, this legislature has digressed justice to the ATSI community , and as further iterated by
Sydney Morning Herald has undone the good of the Mabo decision . ATSI discrimination following
the legislation of the Native title Act (1996) significantly rose in the public discourse with
renowneded personalities claiming they could take their backyards , and an unspoken deeply rooted
fear for many, dating back to Australia s colonization; that Australia could be declared completely
under Native Title, and the sovereignty of the Crown could be questioned . For ATSI peoples , the
introduction of the 10 point plan, and the Native Title Ammendment Act (1998) marks a significant
national regression upon achieving justice for their community as they sought to pour bucket loads
of extinguishment on the native title rights of Indigenous Australians. Law reform, in this case has
been dominantly ineffective in achieving justice for the ATSI peoples, and rather revoking

WEB SERVICES AND SEMANTIC WEB
The question of the relationship between these two activities is constantly in the air.
The whole description side is a clear semantic web application, and so long as XML languages are
defined which introduced with English language specs but no RDF mapping, there is a potential
ambiguity which will have to be resolved later in making that mapping, there is an inability to use
common semantic web tools, and there is cost down the road assuming semantic web tools will
eventually be used. Essentially, web serve ices become instant legacy technology for the semantic
web.
The DAML services collation of researchers is tackling the job of service description at a higher
level.
Many things which are described as web services can in fact be described as the publication of a
series of semantic web documents, just as the billing of a peer company is in reality effected by
the issuance of an invoice.
When Semantic Web agents query each other, they could use SOAP (though a direct encoding into
an HTTP URI may also be effective).
When Semantic Web agents update each other, they should use SOAP, running typically over
HTTP POST.

General Zaroff In The Most Dangerous Game By Richard Connell
In reality, some people stand out, some people do not. Whether or not they are noticed, everyone
is wrapped in many different layers of personalities. People have their own secrets and hobbies.
Not all of their personal activities are socially accepted and most people have their pastime in a
secluded area. General Zaroff from The Most Dangerous Gameby Richard Connell is an excellent
example. He is a dynamic and complex antagonist that dabbles in more than an unusual game. Mr.
Zaroff, the agile and experienced hunter, is cunning, well educated yet inhumane and irrational.
General Zaroff is brutal and inhumane mainly due to his abnormal version of hunting. For him, it is
less like hunting and more like a tropical murder spree; Hunting? Great Guns, Zaroff, what you
speak of is murder! (Page 6) as claimed by Rainsford when Zaroff explained his game . So,
General Zaroff kills humans for sport and entertainment. He is willing to slaughter everyone with
no discrimination and regardless of their race; ...I hunt the scum of the Earth: sailors from tramp

you, I do not do the things you suggest... I treat these visitors with every consideration... He

Midsummer Night Dream Analysis
A Midsummer s Night Dream
William Shakespeare is a successful playwright as he uses the style of history, tragedy and comedy
which is an entertaining aspect that is in all his plays.
One of his plays, A midsummer s night dream , includes the themes of love and magic, where love
is represented as a force that makes people act in irrational ways to entertain the audience in a
comical and dramatic way. He used different techniques throughout the play to create a tumultuous
and intriguing factor. The storyline of the play follows various couples such as Hermia and
Lysander and Oberon and Titania. These couples show examples of irrational behaviours with love
and magic throughout the play.
Hermia and Lysander behave irrationally throughout the whole play because they re head over
heels for each other; however, their love is oppressed by both her father Egeus and the strict
Athenian law. In Act 1, Scene 1 when Egeus is at court with Hermia he uses a demanding and
dominating tone to state, as she is mine i may dispose of her This causes them to act
spontaneously and irrationally and as a consequence, they run away from Athens to get married.
This entertains the audience by adding more conflict and complication to the story. After they
elope to the forest, magic becomes the force that turns love to a dramatic and conflict filled
experience that is also entertaining. Lysander acts in irrational ways when he is put under the
spell of Love in Idleness where he states how madly he loves on Helena, and how much he hates
Hermia. Hang off, thou cat, thou burr! Vile thing, let loose, / or I will shake thee from me like a
serpent. Derogatory language and repetition is used to emphasise his hate toward Hermia and
orders her to leave him alone. For example, in Act 3, Scene 2, Lysander has fallen in love with
Helena and tells Hermia how he hates her. Out, loathed medicine! O hated potion, hence! Conflict
between characters create comedy in the play which entertains the audience because of the dramatic
irony. Lysander s insults in the statement are repetition as it is the same meaning but in different
words. This language technique emphasises that Lysander wants Hermia to leave him alone.
Oberon and Titania are the

Hiroshima Bombing Critique
Despite having our eyes wide open, we failed to actually see the world. Susan Neiman s article
caught me completely off guard. Even as someone who grew up outside of the United States, I
was taught educated by my teachers that the Atomic bombs, which exploded in Hiroshima and
Nagasaki, were the most crucial elements that led to the surrender of Japan during World War II.
Many US historians also argued that the bomb not only hasten hastens the end of the war, but also
saved almost a million American soldiers who could have died if the war was to continue.
However, Neiman pointed out sharply in her article that the US did not drop the (atomic) bomb in
order to end the war or save lives. (Neiman, 12) Through unclassified historical evidence,... Show

However, this is a logic logical fallacy that confuses our understanding in my opinion. First,
there is a fundamental basic difference between the Japanese government and the ordinary
citizens of Hiroshima. It is true to say that the emperor of Japan declared war and the Japanese
troops invaded several countries, but should primary school children who had just began
grasping the world be held accountable for their government s mistakes? How are the innocent
schoolgirls, the uninvolved foreign priests and the Japanese antiwar fighters different from the
Jews? Second, even if we consider the concept of total war, which sees seeks no difference
between civilians and soldiers during war time, discrediting Japanese citizens through
comparison with Jews remains problematic. (Heresy, 90) To illustrate, a drunk driver should be
held accountable for killing no matter who his car hit whether if it an old man or a kidnapper.
The meaning of the perpetrator s action does not change vary due to the victim s identity.
Similarly, just because the Japanese started the war doesn t make the bombing of Hiroshima a
virtuous action. Hence, the US government s constant unremitting emphasis on the difference
between Jews and Japanese is not an act of promoting Jewish interest. It is a slow yet effective
process that seeks to deceive the general population through distortion of our moral vision. As we
constantly focus on the straight forward evils like the case of the Holocaust, we fail to recognise
the more complicated version of evil which dominated the US foreign policy for the past 50 years.
(Neiman, 23) Meanwhile the US interests are well served through promoting the picture of simple
evil, the great lost lies in the ignorance of the general

Descartes Meditations Ontological Argument Essay
Descartes Meditations Ontological Argument
Descartes s fifth Meditation argument for God s existence relies on an untenable notion that
existence is a perfection and that it can be predicated of God. I shall first explain what Descartes s
argument for God s existence is, and then present his argument in propositional form. I will then
attempt to support the argument that existence is neither a perfection nor a predicate of God.
In our thoughts we apprehend ideas of things. These ideas may reside entirely within our thoughts
or they may exist independent of our considerations of them (Descartes 143). Descartes argues that
the idea of God is that He is infinite substance [eternal, immutable], independent, all knowing, ...

Existence, therefore, should more properly be thought of as a prerequisite for perfection and not
a perfection in and of itself. Descartes disagrees however, and in his reply to Gassendi he argues
that existence is necessarily predicated of God because existence is a part of the true essence of
any perfect being (Plantinga 49). For Descartes, it is not possible for us to possess the idea of a
most perfect being if this being lacks the most important characteristic of existence. If God did not
exist then He would not be the most perfect being, but we clearly have the idea of the most
perfect being so therefore He must exist. The problem with this notion, however, is that Descartes
begs the question by building into premise (2) the concept of a perfect being which has yet to be
demonstrated. In order to demonstrate God s existence, Descartes should not assume, or
presuppose, that which he is attempting to conclude. But by predicating the existence of God in
(2) he has already concluded that which is later restated in the conclusion. In effect, the follower of
Descartes s argument is tricked, for if he or she agrees with the foundational premises for the sake
of the argument (that existence is predicated of a most perfect being), then there is no choice left
but to conclude that God exists.
Further, predicating the existence of a most perfect being based upon the attributes that this being
is believed to possess fails to provide existence to

The Pros And Cons Of Gnosticism
The Gnostic view is one of the issues that have been debated among Christian and nonchristian
scholars. This is because a different school of thought has risen in the past concerning Gnostic
teachings and the negative effects it poses to the gospel truth.
Many who oppose gnostic teachings tend to tag them as heretic movement while gnostic teachers
believe that their teaching is base on cosmetic facts.
There are many scholars in the past that have oppose gnostic views because they see it as an
obstacle in preaching the gospel. One of the early scholars that oppose gnostic ideas is Ireanus.
He believes that despite the writings of the early Church Fathers, most of whom were fanatics
with an axe to grind theology see gnostic belief as an enemy of the true gospel. Ireanus used the
term herectic which was not universally used by early church fathers. This is because gnostics
themselves were comprised of diverse groups which did not have a uniform set of beliefs because
of their diversity. Because of their diversity and lack of having a define theory on some of their
views, one is posed with the difficult task of identifying the main aim of the movement.
Furthermore, the research intends to discuss or define the term Gnosticism, it will also look at its
origin and how it relates to Christianity.
What is Gnosticism?
The term Gnostic has traditionally been referred to the various groups which flourished in the early
centuries of the Common Era and which stressed the

Balanced Scorecards Of Managerial Accounting
Balanced Scorecards in Managerial Accounting There is a great deal of struggles Managers face
when it comes to accounting related decisions. Financial reports are often conducive in coming
up with resolutions regarding company operations, but they don t necessarily contribute to the
direct goals and missions of said companies. Individuals such as Nolan Norton and Robert
Kaplan were among the first group to recognize the dilemma of solely relying on financial
reports and the outcome resulted in what is now known as a balanced scorecard (Bible, Kerr,
Zanini, 2006, p. 18). In an article written by Larry Bitner and Mary Myers (2010), Kaplan and
Norton state that balanced scorecards are used for translating an organization s mission and... Show

18). What eventually resulted from these meetings is the balanced scorecard. According to
Bible, Kerr, and Zanini (2006), Kaplan and Nolan s group: Companies use four common
perspectives in their scorecard, supplementing these with a number of customized perspectives
as needed. The four perspectives were: financial, customer, internal, and innovation and
learning. Each perspective helped answer a basic performance question: How do we look to
shareholders? How do customers see us? What must we excel at? Can we improve and create
value? (p. 19) This concept was initially summarized in an article in the Harvard Business
Review in 1992 followed by two subsequent articles to expand and improve the strategy with the
third article setting new standards and encouraging companies from all over to adopt the ideas
companies (Bible et al., 2006, p. 19). Since it was originally published the concept of the balanced
scorecard has changed and grown significantly. The main goal of the balanced scorecard as
described by Loreta ValanДЌienД— and Edita GimЕѕauskienД— (2007) is [to measure]
consistency of organizational strategic goals and measures for their achievements . Basically it
takes into consideration other factors besides just financial reports and keeps all aspects of the

In every society in this world, media plays a very important role as sources of information on
what is occurring not only within the local community but also in international in the formation
of public opinion and have been recognized as constitutive of social reality in modern society .
Media thus act as a mirror that reflects the happenings in society and are regarded as a barometer of

As many parts of the world do not welcome or otherwise lack access to global or regional media
directly such as CCTV, it was clearly noticed that most of the regional or global media houses
establishements have limited media effects due to unavailable or broadcasting via satellite systems
which are most of the time very expensive and commercial oriented hence only few people can
afford to subscribe for the services.
There is no one size fits all policy when it comes to identifying an effective communication strategy
in diplomacy, whether it is in its narrow sense of official negotiation or understood as public
diplomacy.
In order to improve its global image and cultivate an international environment that would facilitate
China s continuous rise in the world, the Chinese government has developed, in recent years, an
aggressive Public Diplomacy program. The extension of the global outreach of its media has

Anime and manga is not kid stuff, and it s nothing like American cartoons. Most of it is produced
for a teenage or adult audience. Anime series change over time; the plot is often intricate, and
characters change, grow, and often die. The unpredictibility and emotional depth of anime as
opposed to American cartoons is part of the appeal. Many anime series such as Evangelion or
Battle Angel Alita are quite introspective as well as action packed, and study questions of love,
trust, and other deep feelings.
To understand anime, it is fairly important to have at least a little understanding of Japanese culture
itself. Anime and manga are currently produced for an exclusively Japanese audience authors are
often shocked to hear that they have American or European fans and are thus based on cultural
assumptions and references that Americans find puzzling at best. Some

Alexie s short story What You Pawn I Will Redeem, the reader may find it difficult to classify
main character Jackson Jackson as a hero because he does not possess characteristics that most
people are familiar with because of characters like Atticus Finish of To Kill a Mockingbird,

Although the subject matters in Alexie s fiction are morally and ethically engaging, the same texts
are often ironic, satiric, and full of humor. As the characters in a caricature like manner stagger
across the reservation, between drinking the next beer and cracking the next joke, the reader is
often invited to laugh along with them, even at them. (Nygren)
Alexie s stories are engaging and touch readers even though the atmosphere of violence,
alcoholism, and poverty pervades much of Alexie s writing whether the setting is on or off the

place in urban cities such as What You Pawn I Will Redeem, although the characters are far from
the harsh life of the reservations, the bad things in life seem to follow them. Alexie s fictional
reservation is a place where his characters are tormented by collective memories of a genocidal
past, of cavalry approved hangings, massacres, and smallpox infected blankets (Nygren). These
nightmares haunt his characters; they may not verbalize the horrific history of their people but the

Summary Of Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Blithedale Romance
America s inception stemmed from the desire to create a society which differed from those
before it. By taking the best pieces of previous civilizations, the founding fathers strived to create
a perfectly formed society based on equality, a balance of power, and the independence of man to
pursue their own dreams. Literature of this period and more specifically the 19th century often
deals with experimentations on this very basis for society. Does one favor the individual over the
community or ignore the personal desires of the individual in favor of a collective mindset?
Experimenting with the makings of a utopia, defined by Merriam Webster as, a place of ideal
perfection especially in laws, government, and social conditions creates a serious question on the
plausibility of a perfect society. Dealing with this very quandary first hand, Nathaniel Hawthornes
The Blithedale Romance is an experimentation on forming a perfect utopia. Within the novel, the
desires of the individual are squandered in favor of the collective. In reading Hawthorne, one gets
the sense that the world is just out of reach for him. Attaching a mysticism to everything detaches
the characters from any sense of reality, meaning that any experiment they set out on should be met
with suspicion. Whereas in Henry David Thoreaus Walden, Thoreau places the individual on a
higher plane than the community. Going into the woods, Thoreau detaches himself from society in
a far different manner than Hawthorne, with

The peasants however could only eat what they harvested in their own fields and what was left
if they worked for the lord (Galloway 20 21). They also could rarely eat meat, which was a huge
luxury back then. They also had no refrigerators so many of the things peasants ate were stale
food or spoiled food (Allen). Clean water was also a rarity. This was because water ways were
not always clean and because many peasants used clean rivers as a place to dump their waste,
there were no reliable sources for clean water in the Middle Ages (Allen). To solve this problem,
brewers, or people who made a wine like drink called ale for living, used water and fermented
fruits and was surprisingly cleaner than the water they had back then! Because of this, many
peasants asked the brewers to make them ale and beaus of this, ale was the most popular dink
for peasants and even the some of the nobles (Galloway). The peasants usually ate bread because
thats what they could grow. Many peasants could only grow grain or barley and so they would
take their crops to the miller who would grind the grain for you. However many millers were
known as cheaters as they made the people pay more or they kept some of the flour for
themselves or even both! (Galloway). Some millers would even put their hands on the scale so it

Analysis Of The Poem Porphyria s Lover By Robert...
With so much poetry coming out of Britain it can be hard for any of it to stand out from the rest,
but Porphyria s Lover by Robert Browning and A Poison Tree by William Blake manage to stand
out from other poems. These two poems differ in structure, writing style, and voice but both have
something that sticks them out from the rest; murderers without a moral compass. While murder
isn t new to poetryit is rare to find it as nonchalant as it is in these two poems. These killers were
not killing just because they hated their victims; they were killing because they could and the
fact that a life was ended meant nothing to them. This is why these poems stick out from the
rest. The poem Porphyria s Lover by Robert Browning tells the story of two lovers who were not
supposed to be and ends in the death of one of the lovers. The poem starts with a stormy night
and Porphyria, one of the two lovers, visits her lover in a small cottage. We are given the image
of her lover being angry with her by the way he ignores her. She tries to seduce him by making
her smooth white shoulder bare (Browning 17) and pulling her lovers head against her. Porphyria
admitted that although she loved him she was too weak to give herself completely to him. She
claims she thought about him at her dinner feast which could mean that the reason they couldn t be
together was because of class differences. While she told him what went through her mind he
looked at her eyes and claimed that he realized

Active vs. Passive Magnetic Bearings
Introduction
A magnetic bearing is a type of bearing that holds up a load using magnetic levitation. Scientists first
discovered the magnetic effects in magnetic minerals in 500B.C. In the late 20th century, scientists
began developing ways where this magnetic effect could be implemented into a bearing, creating
magnetic bearings. Today, magnetic bearings can be found in many applications where no physical
contact is required or extreme environmental conditions exists, including very high and low
temperatures. Magnetic bearings also offer higher running speeds, efficiency, longer machine life
and lower operating and maintenance costs due to being virtually maintenance free.

The responsibility of these sensors are to measure the deviation from a reference position.
Inductive sensors are comprised of soft magnetic cores on stators and sensor targets on rotors.
The values of inductances of sensor coils wrapped around the cores are used to estimate the rotor
position. Although their readings can be affected by stray magnetic fields from AMB actuators,
these sensors are often easier to use than eddy current sensors. This problem can be avoided for
radial sensors by using two diametrically opposite sensor heads in differential connection. This
cannot be said, however, for axial sensors. Axial sensors must be located close to the axial
actuators, where the stray fields are higher, in order to minimize changes of the actuator operating
gaps caused by differences in thermal expansions of the rotor and the stator.
An actuator is a unique type of motor that is solely used to regulating and moving a component or
system of the component. This type of motor uses electric currents to high fluid pressure to air
pressure. Active magnetic bearings are used in certain applications as actuators for applying a
stable force on a spinning object such as a shaft. Actuators used in an active magnetic bearing
system consist of the power amplifier and an electromagnetic coil to produce a stable motion in the
system. A current is produced in the coils windings from the power amplifier which generates a
magnetic flux and an electromagnetic force proportional

Review Of The City Of Ladies
The Role of Stories in The City of Ladies Christine De Pizan s The City of Ladies is
acknowledged as one of the earliest feminist texts. The character of Lady Reason tells Christine
numerous stories about significant female rulers with the intention of helping Christine build the
City of Ladies. Lady Reason tells Christine various stories to expunge the propagated lies men
have insisted upon to maintain their patriarchy. Lady Reason also states that the stories will
serve as a foundation for the city walls; it will be the base of protection in the city. However, the
argument about the city s selective acceptance is brought into question because it appears to
accept the very principals Lady Reason is trying to prove wrong. This assumption is incorrect
because it does not take into account the possibility that some people would be denied entrance
because of past deeds, like committing crimes. The role of stories in The City of Ladies is
essential to the development and execution of the story, which brings to light modern day issues
with gendersocialization and inequality. Christine De Pizanutilizes herself as the main character in
the story of The City of Ladies. Not unlike the reality of her situation the character Christine is very
well read, and clearly an intellectual who values the pursuit of knowledge. However, she faces a
crisis of identity following a revelation that most philosophical and literary works condemn

What Is Infrared Pading
When it comes to repairing asphalt pavement, timing is critical. The longer that a break in the
pavement is allowed to go without proper repair, the more likely it becomes that you will incur
extensive damage that will be costly to resolve. Once a pothole develops, it can allow a substantial
amount of water to reach the pavement s supporting foundation. The foundation becomes eroded,
additional potholes form and existing potholes turn into craters that can cause serious damage to
vehicles and painful injuries to pedestrians. What Causes Potholes? Although potholes can
potentially result from improper installation of the asphalt pavement, most of the time, they are
weather related. If cracks are not filled, water can leak underneath the pavement. Sand and gravel
may collect in the crack as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To understand why infrared paving is an ideal choice for repairing potholes, it might be helpful
to review how traditional repairs are typically made. In most cases, the contractor would remove
the damaged area by cutting it out with a saw before installing new asphalt. This method leaves
a seam where the new asphalt meets the existing pavement, and this seam is a weak point that
could fail, allowing water penetration to occur. Furthermore, if the weather is quite cold, the
contractor might have to resort to a temporary patch using a cold mix material, requiring a
second repair once conditions permit. Infrared paving eliminates cold seams and can be
performed in cooler weather than most hot mix repairs. In fact, infrared paving can often be
performed in the middle of winter in the Connecticut area. Infrared technology is used to heat and
soften the area needing repair as well as a small part of the surrounding pavement. Once the area
has been softened enough, the asphalt is worked and new asphalt is mixed in if it is needed. The
repaired area is seamlessly fused to the existing pavement for a strong, durable repair that is often
virtually

Write An Essay On Pork Tapeworms
A pork tapeworm, also known as a Taenia Solium, is a certain type of tapeworm that can infect

for up to 25 years, or even longer, and it shows little to no symptoms. If the eggs from the worm
are digested this can cause a extremely serious condition called Cysticercosis, which hatches the
egg and releases the larva, which migrates to other parts of the body like the brain and eyes, which
can lead to neurocysticercosis, causing epileptic seizures and psychiatric disturbances. Tapeworms

Some patients with pork tapeworms have symptoms of diarrhea, nausea, weakness and decreased
appetite. People infected with the worm may not even have symptoms or any idea that the
worm is even inside them. Cysts are able to form on the brain and spinal cord, which could lead
to seizures or symptoms that are similar to a brain tumor. Cysts on a spinal cord can result in
difficulty walking and weakness. In very rare cases, death has occurred. They can also affect the

A Brief Biography of Fidel Castro
His full name is Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz and he was born on August 13, 1926 in a BirГn, Cuba.
Castro s parents are Angel Castro(father) and Lina Ruz(mother). His father was a wealth

in his family. His parents sent Fidel to a Jesuit boarding school where he was disciplined and
showed the true potential of his intellect. While in boarding school, he also showed a much
bigger interest in sports rather than academics. He even won an award for best all around

The Difference Between Moral Permissibility And Legal...
4)When justifying medical procedures, it is important to acknowledge the difference between moral
permissibility and legal permissibility. This difference is evident in the three medical procedures
that end patient s lives: physician assisted suicide (PAS), voluntary active euthanasia (VAE) and
passive euthanasia. PAS is when a physicianintentionally and knowingly prescribes lethal drugs to
a patient intending to commit suicide. VAE is when a physician administers a lethal injection to
kill a voluntary, informed patient upon request. Passive euthanasia is when a physician withholds
treatment and leaves the patient to die. It is commonly thought for passive euthanasia to be
ethically permissible, but not for PAS and VAE. This is because it is never permissible for a
physician to take direct action to kill the patient. Although in both PAS and VAE, physicians play an
active role in bringing about the deathof a patient, the patient ultimately kills himself in PAS and
the physician ultimately kills the patient in VAE. Regarding moral permissibility, I find that
humaneness of treatment and compatibility with physicians moral obligations provide convincing
arguments for accepting PAS and VAE as moral medical practices. However, the difference in
patient s self determination makes PAS a more morally justifiable medical practice. Furthermore,
the difference in the ultimate causal agent of death creates legal complications and greater
possibility for abuse for VAE. Thus, I also

Pros And Cons Of For-Profit Universities
There are many individuals who believe, that for profit universities and colleges pose a significant
threat to American higher education, and that they should be banned, I also agree with this outlook
on for profit universities. According to Sheffield s article, For profit schools enable low income and
racial minority students, including many who are non traditional, to gain practical, skills based
training that better equips them for the marketplace relative to many traditional academic paths. For
profit colleges and universities differ from non profit colleges and universities because they can be

humans from other humans because of skin tone may sound a bit ridiculous now, but from about
the 1880s in to the 1960s segregation laws were enforced, leaving the colored men, women and
even children away from and humiliated by the White man. The laws that were created forced
colored or black people to eat in different places, drink from different water fountains, and even be
incarcerated in different prisons. Enforcing the laws of African Americans to be separated from
any form of Caucasian person is usually referred to as the Jim Crow legislation, which... Show more

Afterwards the bill was signed very quickly by the Republican governor or the state, which after
the Radical regime was placed into office. The reason for having or making such a bill was that
most of the white members considered it be a concession for the Black people for the pain that
they had endured during a more serious statute that discriminated against them in 1875. So
supposedly it was created to make a confused legal situation a little more clearly. As a part of this
legislation some carriers had their doubts as to what policies the company itself should need to
come up with. All of this became to grow part of everyday life, where men, women of black
colored skin would be given the choice of whether to not ride on trains at all, or have to deal
with paying for first class and yet having to sit in the worst conditions parts of the train or
anything they rode on. ...I have traveled in this free country for twenty hours without anything to

lighter hue had breakfast, dinner and supper. In traveling we are thrown in jim crow cars, denied

Shirley Temple s Dimpled Face
Pecola is constantly labeled as inferior due to her ugliness and copes with her sorrow by
conforming to society s label.
Throughout the novel, Pecola s fascination with white girls is heavily expressed. It is first shown
very early on when Pecola admires the Shirley Temple cup. Claudia narrates, She was a long
time with the milk, and gazed fondly at the silhouette of Shirley Temple s dimpled face (19).
Much later in the book Pecola shows her fascination with Mary Jane. She takes great joy in buying
and eating the Mary Jane candies, for, to eat the candy is somehow to eat the eyes, eat Mary Jane.

While most think of dandelions as nothing but a pesky weed, Pecola admires and sympathizes
with them. She does not understand why people dislike them, as demonstrated on page 47: Why,
she wonders, do people call them weeds? She thought they were pretty, . This is a powerful
statement that reflects the discrepancies between society s labels. Just like the dandelions, Pecola
is a devalued weed because society said so. Even though Pecola feels admiration towards the plant,
the pressure to conform eventually overwhelms her and she attempts to convince herself otherwise
by thinking, They are ugly. They are weeds, (50). She rationalizes that if she is told dandelions are
ugly then they must be ugly, just as she rationalizes that because she is black she is

Theaker (2001) states that the essence of network public relations is the contest of discourse
power and the guidance of network public opinion. If the charity has this kind of advantage, it
would be in the dominant position of the public opinion, and it would have a better effect when

The Characteristics Of Child-Directed Speech ( CDS )
Talking to children has always been fundamental to language development, but new research
reveals that the way we talk to children is key to building their ability to understand and create
sentences of their own. The exaggerated speech we naturally use with young children is a special
register often called motherese (Medical Xpress , 2011). Moreover, child directed speech (CDS)
plays an important role in language acquisitionbecause while modifying and adjusting speech to a
child, this keeps their attention and meets the needs of providing understanding to the young
addressee.
Child directed speech (CDS), also referred to as infant directed speech (IDS) or motherese is a
speech register that is characterized by pitch and intonation, slower speech rates with pauses in
between words, shorter simple sentences and frequent repetition (O Brien, 2017). Moreover, the
role child directed speech (CDS) plays in language acquisition is that it modifies and adjusts
speech directed to children and keeps their attention as well as meets the needs of providing
understanding to the young addressee (Clarke, p. 45).
This paper will examine the cultural variations embedded in child directed speech (CDS) and how
the characteristics of child directed speech (CDS) differ cross culturally. Specifically, this essay
will show evidence of cultural variation from several case studies by focusing on the differences
and similarities in prosodic characteristics within child directed speech (CDS)

On Compassion Analysis Essay
Compassion at Play
Are people born with a complete quandary when it comes to compassion or is it something that
has always been there? Barbara Lazear Ascher, born in 1946, writes, On Compassion. Having
lived in New York City, Ascher is able to take first hand examples from the city to show the
affection people have towards each other. Ascher is able to illustrate that compassion is
something that has to be taught because of the adversity at people s heels by including tone,
persuasive appeals, and the mode of comparing and contrast in her essay, On Compassion. The
tone of Ascher s essay can best be described as thoughtful and reflective. Ascher is able to achieve
this tone in her quote, He wears a stained blanket pulled down to his ... Show more content on

She has not only witnessed this once, but TWICE she has seen this woman feed the man. The
readers are able to trust that she witnessed these events herself because they are realistic events,
and happen in everyday life. Compassion is a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another
who is stricken by misfortune. Ascher appeals to pathos in her essay in order to compel the
readers to feel compassion towards the victims. She contributes to pathos in her quote, The man s
grin is less the result of circumstance than dreams or madness (46). The audience feels for this
young man and the tough circumstances he is going through. The man is dressed so poorly that he
is being mistaken as a mad man by the spectators. The readers instantly feel empathy for this man in
the form of compassion. Ascher appeals to logos in order to define compassion in her quote, For
the ancient Greeks, drama taught and reinforced compassion within a society (48). Ascher includes
the real facts about the Greeks in her essay. When she includes these facts, it enables the readers to
validate that compassion is something that is taught, whether it is through plays or having to see
someone in a worse condition than they are, compassion is still attained. Ascher utilizes examples
in her essay, On Compassion to show the pity people are taking on the ones who are in a
painstaking position. The author supplies her essay with the mode of comparing and contrasting in
her quote, The object of Greek

Gondwana
Gondwana, the southern half of the ancient supercontinent Pangea and a supercontinent in its own
right, was composed of the continents and landmasses that we now call Antarctica, South America,
Africa, Madagascar, Australia, New Zealand, the Arabian Peninsula and the Indian subcontinent. A
supercontinent is a large landmass that is made up of several continents and a subcontinent is a
large distinguishable part of a continent, an example being the part of Asia which contains India,
Pakistan and Bangladesh. Gondwana was first formed between 570 510 Mya (million years ago)
and then combined with another supercontinent, Laurasia, to form Pangea. It then split from
Pangea between 280 200 Mya, with different resources stating different timeframes for this split.
Around 180 165 Mya, Gondwana started to split and the continents started drifting to where they
are today. Back when Gondwana existed, the climateon Earthwas milder than what it is today and
the average temperature was significantly higher than the average temperature on Earth now. As a
result of this climate, much of Gondwana was covered in lush temperate rainforests. The geological
event that caused these continents to combine together and split apart from each other is called
continental drift. The Continental Drift Theory explains how continents can move along the... Show

Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum s Art Collection
The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum s art collection blends history and culture to aesthetically
define a single individual: Isabella Stewart Gardner. From the Mosaic Floor: Medusa of the inner
courtyard, to The Coronation of Hebe (Paolo Veronese) on the ceiling of the third floor Veronese
Room, Gardner determined every inch of both the interior and exterior of the structure housing her
personal collection of masterpieces. This museum was specifically designed to resemble a 15th
century Venetian palazzo, inspired from the city that captured Gardner s heart and ultimate vision
of her legacy (Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum). Assisted by Renaissance revival architect,
Willard T. Sears, the palazzo like structure was realized in its full glory, albeit Renaissance
ornamentation had no logical place in early 20th century Boston, Massachusetts. However, Isabella
Stewart Gardners fascination with the Renaissance was not solely because the works and buildings
were visually pleasing. A palazzo, for a wealthy family, was a lasting symbol of status. Gardner s
choice to create a museum inspired by this Renaissance structure demonstrates how this
Renaissance mindset can be translated into her modern context when crafting her own legacy.
The exterior of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is drastically more modest than the interior. In
the same fashion as the traditional palazzos of the Renaissance, the masonry is smooth and
understated. The flat roof resembles that of the Palazzo

The Theory Of Attachment Theory Essay
B1/A2/A*1 John Bowlby s attachment theory is a positive aspect to this transition as the child are
likely to gain secure attachments with their key worker which enables them to work closely with
each other, this then allows the child to be more comfortable with any support they receive
throughout the process, however the child may become too attached to their key worker and may
face issues later when the times comes for them to separate therefore it is important for children to
spend time with other members of staff. Children can be attached to other practitioners other than
their key worker so it is important for both to communicate to ensure that the key worker knows
everything about the child and keep on track with any paperwork they have to complete about the
child and keep track of the child s progress and development. I think that Bowlby attachment theory
is important within this transition as the child going into care needs a secure attachment to
someone as the attachment to their parents will be disrupted and the child needs someone for
support especially a child of this age. The child can make an attachment to their foster carer
however this also may be difficult if the child is in temporary foster care and are removed from
care, this may cause the child distress as all the attachments they have made are being disrupted.
There are many criticism of Bowlby s theory, one of these are that Bowlby believed that Bowlby
suggested that a child would initially form only

An Age Of Wisdom And Clarity
INTRODUCTION
Everyone in the United States has had some sort of interaction with a person from the church, at
a church, in a church and has seen countless images of Jesus in various states of crucifixion to
constantly remind you of his sacrifice, a promise to you that you are forgiven and you have a
place in heaven. Now, this essay is not for everyone, some people cannot function without a
crutch, or life is so bad this is the only escape from reality that is possible, this essay is for those
who like me as a child was so confused about the Christian religion, but could never isolate those
reasons until entering an age of wisdom and clarity.
His Birth
Jesus s birth story is known by us all in some form or other. His birth is celebrated in countless
songs, and festooned, mangered, and otherwise decorated to include gifting friends and family.
Amen.
Beginning this story and journey wise men, most say three, correlated by the three extravagant
gifts. Three wise men followed a star which took them to the palace of King Herod, where the
King said he had heard the Lord s baby was born in Bethlehem. Grabbing up the gifts befitting a
heavenly child, the men head off to Bethlehem to find the Christ child. Quickly these wise men
traverse to Bethlehem and discover the Christ child in a manger with his mother, and the guy
married to his mom. Everyone can see a manger with its clean straw mother and husband around a
baby with animals and three guys with presents.

Into The Woods By Stephen Sondheim
Into the Woods is a musical that was written by songwriter, Stephen Sondheim and director, James
Lapine. In this musical, several Disney stories are humorously re told by creatively combining
their stories into one interrelated adventure. This show opened on November 5, 1989 and ran 764
performances before this film of the musical was released in 1990. Into the Woodswas one of
Sondheim s most popular works in over 25 years. He is known to be the giant of musical theatre
during his time for such a creative style. Sondheim combines several fairytales to explain what
happens in an adult mind after happily ever after. Lapine and Sondheim harmonize their theatrical
talents of an adult fairy tale through portrayal of adventure, comedy, tragedy, and reality. Like all
Broadway performances and morality, Into the Woods forms pure quality and very little suffering
through establishment.
The fairy tale stories altered to meet the wisdom of an adult while incorporating relative childhood
stories. Danielle Ferland performed as Little Red Riding Hood, Ben Wright as Jack and the
Beanstalk, Pamela Winslow as Rapunzel, Kim Crosby as Cinderella, and a few others help the
viewer evaluate the true intentions of the Witch, Bernadette Peters in this wish filled Broadway
performance. It all begins when the Baker s father goes into the Witch s garden. This ultimately
leads to the lack of bread in the current Baker s Wife s stomach. Chip Zien, who plays as the Baker

The Mission Of Apollo 11
On July 20, 1969, humanity did itself proud in spite of all its wars, sadism, hatred, and insanity. We
set foot on another planet. Men walked on the moon. This changed our belief in what we could
accomplish.
On July 20, 1969, the lunar module landed. Humanity did itself proud on that day. Until now
nothing this big had ever been accomplished. The dream of traveling to the moon was already
centuries old when the second World War ended in 1945. The primary objective of Apollo 11was to
complete a national goal set by President John F. Kennedy on May 25, 1961: perform a crewed
lunar landing and return to Earth. Apollo 11 would be the mission to achieve the goal that
President Kennedy had laid down, with more than five months to spare before the end of decade
deadline. On July 19, after Apollo 11 had flown behind the moon out of contact with Earth, came
the first lunar orbit insertion maneuver. At about 75 hours, 50 minutes into the flight, a
retrograde firing of the SPS for 357.5 seconds placed the spacecraft into an initial, elliptical lunar
orbit of 69 by 190 miles. Later, a second burn of the SPS for 17 seconds placed the docked
vehicles into a lunar orbit of 62 by 70.5 miles, which was calculated to change the orbit of the
CSM piloted by Collins. The change happened because of lunar gravity perturbations to the nominal
69 miles required for subsequent LM rendezvous and docking after completion of the lunar landing.
Before this second SPS firing, another TV transmission was

between two or more concepts, or in other words, be able to effectively end a task and start a new
one. The topic is relevant to the lecture because we discussed brain activity in living and dead
things, and what autismstems from. The writer asks the question of what causes autism, eventually
stating that having a greater cognitive flexibility correlates with acquiring better reading skills as a

Taking a Look at the Omnivore s Dilemma
What am I exactly eating? Where does our food come from? Why should I care? The Omnivore
s Dilemma may forever change the way you think about food. I enjoyed Mr. Pollan s book, The
Omnivore s Dilemma and learned a great deal of information. Pollan s book is a plea for us to
stop and think for a moment about our whole process of eating. Pollan sets out to corn fields and
natural farms, goes hunting and foraging, all in the name of coming to terms with where foodreally
comes from in modern America and what the ramifications are for the eaters, the eaten, the
economy and the environment. The results are far more than I expected them to be.
I had no idea we used so much fossil fuel to get corn to grow as much as it does. There is a
widespread of obesity today due to the need of agricultural excesses of corn. I hadn t thought, for
example that anyone could give me any more reasons not to eat HOT French fries at McDonalds,
but Pollan did!
The first section of this book traces a meal at McDonalds back to its basic ingredient corn. From
the corn that feeds the chickens to the xanthan gum in the milkshake to the sweetener in the
ketchup and oil in which the fries are cooked, McDonalds is mostly corn. Since Fast Food
Nation and the other exposes, I don t think there s anyone who cares who doesn t know how
gross fast food is, and Pollan admirably stays away from the yuckiest. Instead, he goes to accusing
Americans who eat food of having become like koalas, capable of absorbing

My High School Student
I m a high school student. Typically, when people think of high schoolers they envision an athletic
jock, a geeky near, or even the most popular girl in school. I personally don t consider myself to
be one of those typical high school students. As I m a hard working, self motivated student, who
chose to leave the high schoolscene, and switch over to the running start program for my senior
year. I ve had countless people tell me that I d made the wrong decision, or that I m missing out
on the best days of my life. All of which may be true, but in the beginning of my senior year this
new challenge was exactly what I needed to be a successful student, and to be the happiest
person I could be. As I threw myself into an entirely different learning environment, which
included more independence and self accountability, I knew this was best. Once I conformed to
my new routine and began to get to know the teachers and students in my classes, things got a lot
easier. I was doing well in all my classes. I stayed on top of my homework, turned in all my
assignments on time, stayed after class to ask questions, until I hit a major setback in my
Political Science class. It was my first college exam, and I had no idea what to expect, I thought I
had thoroughly studied the material until I got my exam back with a failing score. I was in
disbelief, I didn t understand how this could ve happened when I thought that I d prepared myself
so well. I immediately started considering all the factors

Speech Language Pathology Study
The areas that interest me the most in Speech Language Pathology practice are Autism and
Down Syndrome with feeding and swallowing disorder. I believe both areas are evolving and are
most common now days, calling for a great necessity in therapeutic services. Autism is a broad
field, where as a future Speech Language Pathologist, I have a large scope to learn from and
achieve professional goals in one discipline. A larger group in the Autismcommunity is found in
children furthermore, Autism is characterized to follow a child all his or her life and as adults with
Autism, specifically those who are nonverbal may also benefit from Speech and Language
treatment. This allows employment opportunities in both children and adult settings for future SLP
s. My experience as an Assistant Speech Language Pathologist, taught me a person with Autism is
distinct from any other person with this disorder. Each individual has unique traits and features that
distinguish one another, which involves thorough research for an individualized plan of care. It

  • 2. Type 4 Pili Research Paper Bacterial pili have been well studied for their structure, function, and genetics. However, little is known about the structure and function of archaeal pili. Current research has begun to focus on the archaeal pilus and its relatedness to bacterial pili, particularly the bacterial type IV pilus. Using genetic and microscopy techniques, these studies have shown comparative evidence for the differences, as well as homology, between archaeal and bacterial type IV pili. These results suggest there may be an evolutionary divergence from a common ancestral function and origin. Introduction Bacteria have several different types of pili, known and classified based on their structure and assembly. Similarly, archaeahave different appendages that ... Though many are not yet known and are not homologues of any type IV pili system in bacteria or archaea, it is known that a encoded mmp1685 a major pilin gene, epdA, epdB, epdC are minor pilin genes, mmp0040 an ATPase, and eppA is a prepilin peptidase (1). Interestingly, M. maripaludis, also utilizes EppA, which is a specific prepilin peptidease that only works when the archaellins are being being processed (1). The organization of the archaeal type IV operon for pili biosynthesis could potentially indicate various functions in for the pilin proteins and others involved (3). This presents difficulties if the functions, as they are in M. maripaludis, are unknown and tough to predict due to their variance and difference in quantity of genes compared to other known operons. As each of the archaea pilin subunits are known to change and can be slightly different from species species, the regulations are also changing and the pilins will code for an array of functions (3, ... • 4. Propaganda During The Great War The Great War was not only fought with tanks, U boats, and trench warfare, but it was a war of propaganda. Propaganda from both sides was used throughout the Great War to help try and shape the opinions of each embattled nation. This total war did not just require innovative weapons, but also innovative and at times even deceptive propaganda. The British, Germans and United States governments specifically, invested a lot of resources into propaganda as a way to increase recruitment numbers, build international support, and instill a sense of confidence in what was the Great War. Countries had to not just focus their efforts on getting people from their own country to support them, but also neutral countries, as well as having to focus on the enemies by use of atrocity propaganda. In turn, this led to governments tampering with the human will, and even using deceit, all in an effort to help solidify their sides victory. In turn, propaganda played a vital role in the Great War and additionally created an everlasting influence on both war and media in the world today. Unlike previous wars, this war required not just millions of men to serve their own countries, but it required the support of all civilians to help play a role in the war efforts. M.L Saunders stated During the war, sections of the community which has previously remained uninvolved in the exigencies of national survival had found themselves directly affected by events at the front line. Nowadays, a college degree is the most crucial item sought after by employers and is necessary to become successful. It is easy to think that it is a piece of cake to be successful without a collegeeducation. I mean Bill Gates, Will Smith, Abraham Lincoln, and Henry Ford were all very successful. However, that was years ago and the age of college dropouts are over. There is no denying that earning a degree will increase your chances at a better life. Don t get me wrong, there are many hardships that you will experience through your college journey. Many students are not prepared for college life. The emotional toll that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The financial hardships will push you to the edge. Everyone told me in high school that you will receive so many scholarships and so I never would have thought that in my first year of college that I would already be $5,500 in debt. The bad thing about FASFA too, is that they depend solely on how much your parents make. Most of the time money that the parent makes doesn t not end up in their child s college fund. The cost of college compared to how much young adults can make is mind boggling. Students have to make the decision whether or not they want to spend the majority of time working or going to school. A full time student earns about 15 credit hours a semester and every teacher says that you have to spend 3 hours outside of class studying and doing assignments. For the average full time student this means that 45 hours our spent on school work. A typical full time employee works 40 hours. Together this is 84 hours and there are only 168 hours in the week. Even part time employees struggle with balancing the two. 4 out of 5 students work part time to try and keep their head above the water that is their growing debt. However, a college degree is necessary if you want to be successful. The other option is to work years and years in the same company trying to move up the ladder, but really there is no promise of success. The intellectual centre of Islam is Al Azhar in Cairo. The ideas and attitudes taught here are spread throughout the ummah, particularly through the population centers of Islam: Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India and Malaysia. The relative power of the different centers is shifting. Over time the claims on and against the heartland from and by the peripheral Muslim communities will exacerbate the tensions already present. The conservative centre will be under greater pressure from the more vigorous, prolific and liberal Muslim societies on the periphery. Despite the increased prominence of Islam, its history remains obscured by the focus on its role in current events. Through the actions of its radical elements, many Muslims feel the tenants of the faith have been distorted (Aslan, 2005, p. 1). Trying to live successfully in the modern world, being independent and according to Islamic principles, Muslim countries have been talking about a great deal the significance of the role of education and the importance of mastering Western science and Technology. Abstract: Six Cut flowers (Number. 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, and 8) were placed in different vases from 10th March 2011 to 25th March 2011. Solution 1 and 2 which contained water and water mix bleach can last for at least 8 days. Solution 5 and 6 which contained lemon juice and sugar were tending to last for longer for 10 days or more. The results revealed that solution 5 which was the mix of lemon juice and sugar allowed the flower to have the longest lifespan, while solution 7 which was the mix of Coca Cola and water, was the first to wilt. Bleach The main chemical component of bleach is Sodium Hypochlorite (NaOCI), which can unravel the bacterial protein chains so that it inhibits the growth of bacterial in the solution. The solutions (Solution 2, 6, 8) containing bleach could at least survive for 5 days. However, bleach contains toxic gas which is harmful for organism as well; therefore, the solutions 2, 6, 8 were not the one lasted for the longest period when compared with other solutions. Fresh lemon juice Lemon juice contains citric acid and niacin, which enhance the water permeability of the gerbera s stem and kill the germs effectively. Gerbera of solution 5 had the longest lifespan since the solution contained lemon juice that successfully killed the germs and helped improve the water permeability. Lemon juice is not harmful for the flowers and thus, solution 5 and 6 which contained lemon juice can have the longest lifetime. Sugar Sugar nourishes the flowers, helps blooms last longer. For solution 5 and 6, a table spoon of sugar was added. Solution 5 can last the longest since sugar and lemon juice were added, while sugar provided food sources to gerbera and lemon juice helped kill the bacteria. Although ... She is not a troublemaker or an arrogant person, but does not see the point of doing something valueless. • 10. My Summer Camp It was the last day of my summer camp, the night before my Boy Scout troop would pack all their gear and leave the coast of the Puget Sound, and go back to the suburbia where most of the kids in the troop lived. The last day of summer camp, at least at Camp Parsons, was the Hullabaloo. The Hullabaloo was a great gathering of all the patrols, in a large grass covered area, bordering a beach and then the Puget Sound. The whole area was dotted with green trees, and was overlooked by a very large cabin like building, which acted as the meal room for all the troops at camp. The cabin like building was a dark brown, built on the outside with logs, but on the inside a sort of insulated faux log. The inside was very spacious and lined up along the walls were about 50 long tables for the various troops at camp. Even in this large room, there wasn t always enough space to fit the scouts from all the troops, so it was safe to say that my patrol had a lot of competition. All the patrols would compete for a trophy (a carved block of wood, painted yellow and with the purple letters CP stating: FIRST PLACE). Each troopusually has more than one patrol, each patrol being about 5 10 people, so my troop (of about 25 people) had two. When we were all let loose from the cabin like meal house to compete in various team building activities and compete in stations set around the camp (stations such as fire starting, knotting, and building shelters), my patrol started sprinting over the hills and ... • 12. Internet And Internet Relationships Numerous studies have been conducted on various facets of Internet relationships, focusing on the levels of intimacy, closeness, different communication modalities, and the frequency of use of computer mediated communication (CMC). However, contradictory results are suggested within this research because only certain aspects of CMC are investigated, for example, email only. Cummings, Butler, and Kraut (2002) suggest that face to face (FtF) interactions are more effective than CMC (read: email) in creating feelings of closeness or intimacy, while other studies suggest the opposite. To understand how both online (Internet) and offline (non Internet) relationships are affected by CMC, all forms of CMC should be studied. This paper examines Cummings et al. s research against other CMC research to propose that additional research be conducted to better understand how online communication affects relationships. Literature Review In Cummings et al. s (2002) summary article reviewing three empirical studies on online social relationships, it was found that CMC, especially email, was less effective than FtF contact in creating and maintaining close social relationships. Two of the three reviewed studies focusing on communication in non Internet and Internet relationships mediated by FtF, phone, or email modalities found that the frequency of each modality s use was significantly linked to the strength of the particular relationship (Cummings et al., 2002). With the change from Keatings progressive labour government to John Howard s conservative Coalition government, came resounding regression to the Native Title act, with the 10 point plan, and the coinciding Wik decision nine months after. The Wik VS Queensland case (1996) established that in cases of conflict between pastoral leases and native title, pastoral leases override and can successfully extinguish native title , which was adopted with the change of legislation and introduction of the Native Title amendment Act (1998). If there is no conflict, they can coexist. Many cases of Native Title extinguishment has occurred, and only approximately 600 areas hold Native Title in all of Australia, with less than 1% in NSW. As a procession from the Native Title declaration, this legislature has digressed justice to the ATSI community , and as further iterated by Sydney Morning Herald has undone the good of the Mabo decision . ATSI discrimination following the legislation of the Native title Act (1996) significantly rose in the public discourse with renowneded personalities claiming they could take their backyards , and an unspoken deeply rooted fear for many, dating back to Australia s colonization; that Australia could be declared completely under Native Title, and the sovereignty of the Crown could be questioned . For ATSI peoples , the introduction of the 10 point plan, and the Native Title Ammendment Act (1998) marks a significant national regression upon achieving justice for their community as they sought to pour bucket loads of extinguishment on the native title rights of Indigenous Australians. Whether or not they are noticed, everyone is wrapped in many different layers of personalities. People have their own secrets and hobbies. Not all of their personal activities are socially accepted and most people have their pastime in a secluded area. General Zaroff from The Most Dangerous Gameby Richard Connell is an excellent example. For him, it is less like hunting and more like a tropical murder spree; Hunting? Great Guns, Zaroff, what you speak of is murder! (Page 6) as claimed by Rainsford when Zaroff explained his game . So, General Zaroff kills humans for sport and entertainment. He is willing to slaughter everyone with no discrimination and regardless of their race; ...I hunt the scum of the Earth: sailors from tramp ships lassars, blacks, Chinese, whites, mongrels... • 16. Midsummer Night Dream Analysis A Midsummer s Night Dream William Shakespeare is a successful playwright as he uses the style of history, tragedy and comedy which is an entertaining aspect that is in all his plays. One of his plays, A midsummer s night dream , includes the themes of love and magic, where love is represented as a force that makes people act in irrational ways to entertain the audience in a comical and dramatic way. He used different techniques throughout the play to create a tumultuous and intriguing factor. The storyline of the play follows various couples such as Hermia and Lysander and Oberon and Titania. These couples show examples of irrational behaviours with love and magic throughout the play. Hermia and Lysander behave irrationally throughout the whole play because they re head over heels for each other; however, their love is oppressed by both her father Egeus and the strict Athenian law. In Act 1, Scene 1 when Egeus is at court with Hermia he uses a demanding and dominating tone to state, as she is mine i may dispose of her This causes them to act spontaneously and irrationally and as a consequence, they run away from Athens to get married. This entertains the audience by adding more conflict and complication to the story. After they elope to the forest, magic becomes the force that turns love to a dramatic and conflict filled experience that is also entertaining. Lysander acts in irrational ways when he is put under the spell of Love in Idleness where he states how madly he loves on Helena, and how much he hates Hermia. Hang off, thou cat, thou burr! Vile thing, let loose, / or I will shake thee from me like a serpent. Derogatory language and repetition is used to emphasise his hate toward Hermia and orders her to leave him alone. For example, in Act 3, Scene 2, Lysander has fallen in love with Helena and tells Hermia how he hates her. Out, loathed medicine! O hated potion, hence! Conflict between characters create comedy in the play which entertains the audience because of the dramatic irony. Lysander s insults in the statement are repetition as it is the same meaning but in different words. This language technique emphasises that Lysander wants Hermia to leave him alone. Even as someone who grew up outside of the United States, I was taught educated by my teachers that the Atomic bombs, which exploded in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, were the most crucial elements that led to the surrender of Japan during World War II. Many US historians also argued that the bomb not only hasten hastens the end of the war, but also saved almost a million American soldiers who could have died if the war was to continue. However, Neiman pointed out sharply in her article that the US did not drop the (atomic) bomb in order to end the war or save lives. (Neiman, 12) Through unclassified historical evidence,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this is a logic logical fallacy that confuses our understanding in my opinion. First, there is a fundamental basic difference between the Japanese government and the ordinary citizens of Hiroshima. It is true to say that the emperor of Japan declared war and the Japanese troops invaded several countries, but should primary school children who had just began grasping the world be held accountable for their government s mistakes? How are the innocent schoolgirls, the uninvolved foreign priests and the Japanese antiwar fighters different from the Jews? Second, even if we consider the concept of total war, which sees seeks no difference between civilians and soldiers during war time, discrediting Japanese citizens through comparison with Jews remains problematic. (Heresy, 90) To illustrate, a drunk driver should be held accountable for killing no matter who his car hit whether if it an old man or a kidnapper. The meaning of the perpetrator s action does not change vary due to the victim s identity. Similarly, just because the Japanese started the war doesn t make the bombing of Hiroshima a virtuous action. Hence, the US government s constant unremitting emphasis on the difference between Jews and Japanese is not an act of promoting Jewish interest. It is a slow yet effective process that seeks to deceive the general population through distortion of our moral vision. As we constantly focus on the straight forward evils like the case of the Holocaust, we fail to recognise the more complicated version of evil which dominated the US foreign policy for the past 50 years. • 18. Descartes Meditations Ontological Argument Essay Descartes Meditations Ontological Argument Descartes s fifth Meditation argument for God s existence relies on an untenable notion that existence is a perfection and that it can be predicated of God. I shall first explain what Descartes s argument for God s existence is, and then present his argument in propositional form. I will then attempt to support the argument that existence is neither a perfection nor a predicate of God. In our thoughts we apprehend ideas of things. These ideas may reside entirely within our thoughts or they may exist independent of our considerations of them (Descartes 143). Descartes argues that the idea of God is that He is infinite substance [eternal, immutable], independent, all knowing, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Existence, therefore, should more properly be thought of as a prerequisite for perfection and not a perfection in and of itself. Descartes disagrees however, and in his reply to Gassendi he argues that existence is necessarily predicated of God because existence is a part of the true essence of any perfect being (Plantinga 49). For Descartes, it is not possible for us to possess the idea of a most perfect being if this being lacks the most important characteristic of existence. If God did not exist then He would not be the most perfect being, but we clearly have the idea of the most perfect being so therefore He must exist. The problem with this notion, however, is that Descartes begs the question by building into premise (2) the concept of a perfect being which has yet to be demonstrated. In order to demonstrate God s existence, Descartes should not assume, or presuppose, that which he is attempting to conclude. But by predicating the existence of God in (2) he has already concluded that which is later restated in the conclusion. In effect, the follower of Descartes s argument is tricked, for if he or she agrees with the foundational premises for the sake of the argument (that existence is predicated of a most perfect being), then there is no choice left but to conclude that God exists. Further, predicating the existence of a most perfect being based upon the attributes that this being is believed to possess fails to provide existence to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. Summary Of Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Blithedale Romance America s inception stemmed from the desire to create a society which differed from those before it. By taking the best pieces of previous civilizations, the founding fathers strived to create a perfectly formed society based on equality, a balance of power, and the independence of man to pursue their own dreams. Literature of this period and more specifically the 19th century often deals with experimentations on this very basis for society. Does one favor the individual over the community or ignore the personal desires of the individual in favor of a collective mindset? Experimenting with the makings of a utopia, defined by Merriam Webster as, a place of ideal perfection especially in laws, government, and social conditions creates a serious question on the plausibility of a perfect society. Dealing with this very quandary first hand, Nathaniel Hawthornes The Blithedale Romance is an experimentation on forming a perfect utopia. Within the novel, the desires of the individual are squandered in favor of the collective. In reading Hawthorne, one gets the sense that the world is just out of reach for him. Attaching a mysticism to everything detaches the characters from any sense of reality, meaning that any experiment they set out on should be met with suspicion. While murder isn t new to poetryit is rare to find it as nonchalant as it is in these two poems. These killers were not killing just because they hated their victims; they were killing because they could and the fact that a life was ended meant nothing to them. This is why these poems stick out from the rest. The poem Porphyria s Lover by Robert Browning tells the story of two lovers who were not supposed to be and ends in the death of one of the lovers. The poem starts with a stormy night and Porphyria, one of the two lovers, visits her lover in a small cottage. We are given the image of her lover being angry with her by the way he ignores her. She tries to seduce him by making her smooth white shoulder bare (Browning 17) and pulling her lovers head against her. Porphyria admitted that although she loved him she was too weak to give herself completely to him. She claims she thought about him at her dinner feast which could mean that the reason they couldn t be together was because of class differences. While she told him what went through her mind he looked at her eyes and claimed that he realized ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Active vs. Passive Magnetic Bearings Introduction A magnetic bearing is a type of bearing that holds up a load using magnetic levitation. Scientists first discovered the magnetic effects in magnetic minerals in 500B.C. In the late 20th century, scientists began developing ways where this magnetic effect could be implemented into a bearing, creating magnetic bearings. Today, magnetic bearings can be found in many applications where no physical contact is required or extreme environmental conditions exists, including very high and low temperatures. Magnetic bearings also offer higher running speeds, efficiency, longer machine life and lower operating and maintenance costs due to being virtually maintenance free. Inductive sensors are comprised of soft magnetic cores on stators and sensor targets on rotors. The values of inductances of sensor coils wrapped around the cores are used to estimate the rotor position. Although their readings can be affected by stray magnetic fields from AMB actuators, these sensors are often easier to use than eddy current sensors. This problem can be avoided for radial sensors by using two diametrically opposite sensor heads in differential connection. This cannot be said, however, for axial sensors. Axial sensors must be located close to the axial actuators, where the stray fields are higher, in order to minimize changes of the actuator operating gaps caused by differences in thermal expansions of the rotor and the stator. An actuator is a unique type of motor that is solely used to regulating and moving a component or system of the component. This type of motor uses electric currents to high fluid pressure to air pressure. Active magnetic bearings are used in certain applications as actuators for applying a stable force on a spinning object such as a shaft. Actuators used in an active magnetic bearing system consist of the power amplifier and an electromagnetic coil to produce a stable motion in the system. • 31. Review Of The City Of Ladies The Role of Stories in The City of Ladies Christine De Pizan s The City of Ladies is acknowledged as one of the earliest feminist texts. The character of Lady Reason tells Christine numerous stories about significant female rulers with the intention of helping Christine build the City of Ladies. Lady Reason tells Christine various stories to expunge the propagated lies men have insisted upon to maintain their patriarchy. Lady Reason also states that the stories will serve as a foundation for the city walls; it will be the base of protection in the city. However, the argument about the city s selective acceptance is brought into question because it appears to accept the very principals Lady Reason is trying to prove wrong. This assumption is incorrect because it does not take into account the possibility that some people would be denied entrance because of past deeds, like committing crimes. The role of stories in The City of Ladies is essential to the development and execution of the story, which brings to light modern day issues with gendersocialization and inequality. Christine De Pizanutilizes herself as the main character in the story of The City of Ladies. Not unlike the reality of her situation the character Christine is very well read, and clearly an intellectual who values the pursuit of knowledge. However, she faces a crisis of identity following a revelation that most philosophical and literary works condemn womankind. She convinces herself that women must ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. What Is Infrared Pading When it comes to repairing asphalt pavement, timing is critical. The longer that a break in the pavement is allowed to go without proper repair, the more likely it becomes that you will incur extensive damage that will be costly to resolve. Once a pothole develops, it can allow a substantial amount of water to reach the pavement s supporting foundation. The foundation becomes eroded, additional potholes form and existing potholes turn into craters that can cause serious damage to vehicles and painful injuries to pedestrians. What Causes Potholes? Although potholes can potentially result from improper installation of the asphalt pavement, most of the time, they are weather related. If cracks are not filled, water can leak underneath the pavement. Sand and gravel may collect in the crack as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To understand why infrared paving is an ideal choice for repairing potholes, it might be helpful to review how traditional repairs are typically made. In most cases, the contractor would remove the damaged area by cutting it out with a saw before installing new asphalt. This method leaves a seam where the new asphalt meets the existing pavement, and this seam is a weak point that could fail, allowing water penetration to occur. Furthermore, if the weather is quite cold, the contractor might have to resort to a temporary patch using a cold mix material, requiring a second repair once conditions permit. Infrared paving eliminates cold seams and can be performed in cooler weather than most hot mix repairs. In fact, infrared paving can often be performed in the middle of winter in the Connecticut area. Infrared technology is used to heat and soften the area needing repair as well as a small part of the surrounding pavement. Once the area has been softened enough, the asphalt is worked and new asphalt is mixed in if it is needed. The repaired area is seamlessly fused to the existing pavement for a strong, durable repair that is often virtually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. The Difference Between Moral Permissibility And Legal... 4)When justifying medical procedures, it is important to acknowledge the difference between moral permissibility and legal permissibility. This difference is evident in the three medical procedures that end patient s lives: physician assisted suicide (PAS), voluntary active euthanasia (VAE) and passive euthanasia. PAS is when a physicianintentionally and knowingly prescribes lethal drugs to a patient intending to commit suicide. VAE is when a physician administers a lethal injection to kill a voluntary, informed patient upon request. Passive euthanasia is when a physician withholds treatment and leaves the patient to die. It is commonly thought for passive euthanasia to be ethically permissible, but not for PAS and VAE. This is because it is never permissible for a physician to take direct action to kill the patient. Although in both PAS and VAE, physicians play an active role in bringing about the deathof a patient, the patient ultimately kills himself in PAS and the physician ultimately kills the patient in VAE. Regarding moral permissibility, I find that humaneness of treatment and compatibility with physicians moral obligations provide convincing arguments for accepting PAS and VAE as moral medical practices. However, the difference in patient s self determination makes PAS a more morally justifiable medical practice. Furthermore, the difference in the ultimate causal agent of death creates legal complications and greater possibility for abuse for VAE. Thus, I also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Moreover, child directed speech (CDS) plays an important role in language acquisitionbecause while modifying and adjusting speech to a child, this keeps their attention and meets the needs of providing understanding to the young addressee. Child directed speech (CDS), also referred to as infant directed speech (IDS) or motherese is a speech register that is characterized by pitch and intonation, slower speech rates with pauses in between words, shorter simple sentences and frequent repetition (O Brien, 2017). From the Mosaic Floor: Medusa of the inner courtyard, to The Coronation of Hebe (Paolo Veronese) on the ceiling of the third floor Veronese Room, Gardner determined every inch of both the interior and exterior of the structure housing her personal collection of masterpieces. Assisted by Renaissance revival architect, Willard T. Sears, the palazzo like structure was realized in its full glory, albeit Renaissance ornamentation had no logical place in early 20th century Boston, Massachusetts. However, Isabella Stewart Gardners fascination with the Renaissance was not solely because the works and buildings were visually pleasing. A palazzo, for a wealthy family, was a lasting symbol of status. The Theory Of Attachment Theory Essay B1/A2/A*1 John Bowlby s attachment theory is a positive aspect to this transition as the child are likely to gain secure attachments with their key worker which enables them to work closely with each other, this then allows the child to be more comfortable with any support they receive throughout the process, however the child may become too attached to their key worker and may face issues later when the times comes for them to separate therefore it is important for children to spend time with other members of staff. Children can be attached to other practitioners other than their key worker so it is important for both to communicate to ensure that the key worker knows everything about the child and keep on track with any paperwork they have to complete about the child and keep track of the child s progress and development. I think that Bowlby attachment theory is important within this transition as the child going into care needs a secure attachment to someone as the attachment to their parents will be disrupted and the child needs someone for support especially a child of this age. The child can make an attachment to their foster carer however this also may be difficult if the child is in temporary foster care and are removed from care, this may cause the child distress as all the attachments they have made are being disrupted. • 52. The Mission Of Apollo 11 On July 20, 1969, humanity did itself proud in spite of all its wars, sadism, hatred, and insanity. We set foot on another planet. Men walked on the moon. This changed our belief in what we could accomplish. On July 20, 1969, the lunar module landed. Humanity did itself proud on that day. Until now nothing this big had ever been accomplished. The dream of traveling to the moon was already centuries old when the second World War ended in 1945. The primary objective of Apollo 11was to complete a national goal set by President John F. Kennedy on May 25, 1961: perform a crewed lunar landing and return to Earth. Apollo 11 would be the mission to achieve the goal that President Kennedy had laid down, with more than five months to spare before the end of decade deadline. On July 19, after Apollo 11 had flown behind the moon out of contact with Earth, came the first lunar orbit insertion maneuver. At about 75 hours, 50 minutes into the flight, a retrograde firing of the SPS for 357.5 seconds placed the spacecraft into an initial, elliptical lunar orbit of 69 by 190 miles. Later, a second burn of the SPS for 17 seconds placed the docked vehicles into a lunar orbit of 62 by 70.5 miles, which was calculated to change the orbit of the CSM piloted by Collins. The change happened because of lunar gravity perturbations to the nominal 69 miles required for subsequent LM rendezvous and docking after completion of the lunar landing. Before this second SPS firing, another TV transmission was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 54. Taking a Look at the Omnivore s Dilemma What am I exactly eating? Where does our food come from? Why should I care? The Omnivore s Dilemma may forever change the way you think about food. I enjoyed Mr. Pollan s book, The Omnivore s Dilemma and learned a great deal of information. Pollan s book is a plea for us to stop and think for a moment about our whole process of eating. Pollan sets out to corn fields and natural farms, goes hunting and foraging, all in the name of coming to terms with where foodreally comes from in modern America and what the ramifications are for the eaters, the eaten, the economy and the environment. The results are far more than I expected them to be. I had no idea we used so much fossil fuel to get corn to grow as much as it does. There is a widespread of obesity today due to the need of agricultural excesses of corn. I hadn t thought, for example that anyone could give me any more reasons not to eat HOT French fries at McDonalds, but Pollan did! The first section of this book traces a meal at McDonalds back to its basic ingredient corn. From the corn that feeds the chickens to the xanthan gum in the milkshake to the sweetener in the ketchup and oil in which the fries are cooked, McDonalds is mostly corn. Since Fast Food Nation and the other exposes, I don t think there s anyone who cares who doesn t know how gross fast food is, and Pollan admirably stays away from the yuckiest. Instead, he goes to accusing Americans who eat food of having become like koalas, capable of absorbing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. My High School Student I m a high school student. Typically, when people think of high schoolers they envision an athletic jock, a geeky near, or even the most popular girl in school. I personally don t consider myself to be one of those typical high school students. As I m a hard working, self motivated student, who chose to leave the high schoolscene, and switch over to the running start program for my senior year. I ve had countless people tell me that I d made the wrong decision, or that I m missing out on the best days of my life. All of which may be true, but in the beginning of my senior year this new challenge was exactly what I needed to be a successful student, and to be the happiest person I could be. As I threw myself into an entirely different learning environment, which included more independence and self accountability, I knew this was best. Once I conformed to my new routine and began to get to know the teachers and students in my classes, things got a lot easier. I was doing well in all my classes. I stayed on top of my homework, turned in all my assignments on time, stayed after class to ask questions, until I hit a major setback in my Political Science class. It was my first college exam, and I had no idea what to expect, I thought I had thoroughly studied the material until I got my exam back with a failing score. I was in disbelief, I didn t understand how this could ve happened when I thought that I d prepared myself so well. I immediately started considering all the factors ...
