Itemized Deduction Advantages
One kind of itemized deduction is interest earned from either a home mortgage or an investment.
However, you can t do this completely freely. With your mortgage, the interest that qualifies
needs to come from the first $1 million borrowed. This is why most people can qualify for this
kind of deduction. You re also allowed two residences as one taxpayer. This kind of deduction
also includes home equity loans so long as the loan doesn t exceed $100,000. Another kind of
itemized deduction takes the form of many different taxes. When you do this, you can only itemize
taxes from the year that you file for. You can also deduct local and state income taxes, which is a
major advantage behind itemizing. Also, if you own your house, you can itemize the property taxes
on it.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These deductions are limited to a certain, age dependent percentage. If you re under 65, then you
can deduct expenses greater than 10% of your adjusted gross income (AGI). If you re 65 or
older, this is cut down to 7.5% of your AGI. You can also itemize any charitable donations you
made within the past year. Helping political campaigns or needy families aren t considered
charitable , and the amount you can deduct depends on how you make the donation. If you donate
in cash, then the deduction can be up to 50% of your AGI. If you make a property donation, then it
s 30%. A final form of itemized deductions takes the form of small expenses, but you can only
deduct the portion that exceeds 2% of your AGI. These deductions can include uniform expenses,
business or education expenses, professional journal subscriptions, fees for tax preparation, or other

What Does Inherit The Wind Symbolize
Three symbols from the play and how they illustrate an idea or a theme. Many people often do not
attempt to understand the meaning of what a symbol represents. In the play Inherit The Wind, a
symbol represents something more abstract or different than what the reader originally had thought.
Many symbols were used throughout this play, like the monkey, which symbolizes evolution and
the bizarreness and extravagance of the trial. Similarly, the golden dancer symbolizes that all that
glitters is not gold and that looks can be deceiving. Furthermore, reverend Brown symbolizes the
towns beliefs and is an example of someone who is overly overzealous. Evidently, Inherit The

Hornbeck mocks and says to the monkey, Oh. Excuse me. I must be thinking of another Elijah.
(An ORGAN GRINDER enters, with a live monkey on a string. Hornbeck spies the monkey
gleefully; he greets the monk with arms outstretched) Grandpa! (Crosses to the monkey, bends

The Assassination of the Mayor of Castro Street Essay
The Assassination of the Mayor of Castro Street and the Consensus of the Judicial System
It was November 27th, 1978. There was a cheerful atmosphere in San Francisco s City Hall that
morning. Supervisor Harvey Milk s good mood was due to Mayor George Moscone s upcoming
announcement to the press. He was going to publicize that he had decided not to reappoint the
ultra conservative voice for the family , Dan White, back to the board of supervisors. Harvey Milk
was a fierce advocate of this political move, for he was the first openly gay elected official, and
thus, the most important political leader for homosexuals at the time. Dan White, on the other hand,
enforced family values and therefore was not someone that supported this ... Show more content on

He snuck through a window in City Hall just before the press conference was scheduled to take
place, and swiftly shot and killed both men in their own offices. He confessed to the assassinations
just hours later at the local police station.
Despite the evidence of premeditation, the obvious animosity between the assassin and the victims,
and the immediate confession, Dan White was only convicted of two counts of voluntary
manslaughter. He served five years in prison for his crime. In the context of the assassination of two
government officials, the jury s conviction is almost inconsequential. To fully understand the
implication of the term voluntary manslaughter it is necessary to distinguish the different
classifications of murder as defined by California State law. The definition of murder constitutes
both deliberation and premeditation, while voluntary manslaughter is defined as the killing of
another human spontaneously with the lack of previous planning. After staying up all night, Dan
White called his secretary and asked for a ride to City Hall, having no purpose to be in the
building, due to the fact that he was no longer employed there. He brought with him his gun, and
because he brought ten extra bullets as well he clearly had the intention of firing it. He had
contemplated how to avoid the metal detectors at the main entrance and

Radon Essay
Radon
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive element that can be found in soil, underground water,
and outdoor air. Some of the properties of this gas include being odorless, tasteless, and colorless.
The concentrations vary throughout the country depending on the types of rocks that are found in
the soil. Exposure over prolonged periods of time to radon decay products has been associated with
an increased risk of lung cancer.(3) The EPA describes an elevated concentration as being at or
above their suggested guidelines of 4pCi/l
(pico Curies per liter, used as a radiation unit of measure for radon).
Exposures below this level may create a risk of lung cancer, farther reductions to lower levels may
be too difficult ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Uranium and its by products of decay, namely radon are abundant and are constantly being
generated.(13) Radon is capable of easily traveling through rocks and soil.(14) The gas is also
found dissolved in water, due to decay in the soil or rock below.(15)
Radon in Water
The risk from radon in water is much lower than the risk from radon in air. This is because the
water must be heated or agitated to release the gas.
This can happen in a shower, boiling water on a stove, or by using a washing machine. Most public
water supplies don t present a radon risk, this is because the water is aerated at the treatment site
and the gas escapes into the atmosphere. Most water that contains hazardous amounts of radon
comes from wells. Wells should be tested for radon if the building that they are supplying contains
hazardous amounts in the air. The testing procedures for water are different from those used on
air.(16)
Water containing radon can usually be treated. The most effective treatment is to remove radon
from the water before it enters the home, this is called point of entry treatment. Water can also be
treated at the tap, this is known as point of use treatment. However this treatment is much less
effective at removing the risk.(17)
Radon Entry
Radon travels through the ground and into the air, allowing the gas to easily enter buildings and
homes.

Dreaming Big Research Paper
Many people often grow fond of the idea of being realistic instead of dreaming big. Furthermore,
they like to go with the safe choice ,for they re apprehensive of their dreams not coming true.
However, dreaming big is a better than being realistic. Furthermore, dreaming big helps change
your perspective on various of things; it takes you places when you fight for what you want ,or
often dream of having. For example, band member of girlgroup Fifth Harmony , Dinah Jane, often
dreamt of making it to the music industry. Furthermore, she often sang on coffee shops, talent

someone recognizing her. However, no one ever recognized her

Corporate Explosionage Attacks
Corporate espionage attacks are not necessarily committed by adversarial and friendly foreign
powers. They may also be committed by competing industrial players whose goal is to steal
technology for an upper intellectual advantage, and in doing so, undermine the victim nation s
economy. And while businesses with sensitive defense and government information capabilities are
the primary targets of foreign targeting, private organizations have also grown increasingly
vulnerable due to the vast expansion of globalization and the interconnected growth of
industrialized nations. In either scenario, foreign government or competing industry, spies achieve
their means through similar exploitation of weaknesses in technology and insider information....

What may also be corroborated is the rise in corporate espionage. What is debatable, however, are
the actual numbers. According to Bressler (2015), similar studies come to no agreeable conclusion.
There is no single source data which offers any conclusive evidence of total economic losses in
either industry or national economy. Unlike the FBI s Uniform Crime Reports, which provides a
tabulation of various types of crimes in the U.S., there is presently no accurate way to measure
corporate espionage. Companies are under no reporting mandates nor are there any qualitative
measures in place. Furthermore, there is a culture of apprehension within some organizations which
may prevent reporting espionage related incidents. Undisclosed outcomes, however, should not be
confused with complacency. There is often a reluctance across industries to implement the
necessary security precautions until after an event occurs. This could be attributed to budge
constraints or underestimating the nature of the threat. Sometimes the necessary precautions come
only after an event in which the organization suffers an insurmountable

Essay on Ray Bradbury
Ray Bradbury
Ray Bradbury was a dreamer. Bradbury had a skill at putting his dreams onto paper, and into
books. He dreams dreams of magic and transformation, good and evil, small town America and
the canals of Mars. His dreams are not only popular, but durable. His work consists of short
stories, which are not hard to publish, and keep in the public eye. His stories have stayed in print for
nearly three decades.
Ray Bradbury was born on August 22, 1920, in a small town of Waukegan,
Illinois. His parents were Leonard Spaulding and Esther Moberg Bradbury. His mother, Esther
Moberg loved films, she gave her son the middle name Douglas because of Douglas Fairbanks, and

After graduation Bradbury sold newspapers until he saved up enough money to buy a typewriter
and rent a small office. In the early 1940 s his stories appeared regularly in Weird Tales. quot;I
sold a story every month there for three or four years when I was (in my early twenties). Made the
magnificent sum of twenty dollars for each story. quot; Bradbury sold his first stories in 1945 to
quot;slick quot; magazines Collier s, Charm, and Mademoiselle.
Shortly after his marriage to Marguerite Susan McClure in 1947,
Bradbury s first book, Dark Carnival, was published by Arkham House. About this time, the idea
for an important book about Mars, a collection of loosely connected stories, came to Bradbury.
The subjects that engage Bradbury s pen are many: magic, horror, and monsters; rockets, robots,
time and space travel; growing up in the Midwest town in the 1920 s, and growing old in an
abandoned Earth colony on another planet.
Despite their themes, his stories contain a sense of wonder, often a sense of joy, and a lyrical and
rhythimic touch that sets his work apart.
Using an analytical approach to such stories is to do a kind of violence to them, but between the
dream and the finished story is a

B2B vs. B2C Marketing Differences Essay
B2B vs. B2C Marketing Differences
Once a decision is made to develop a business, whom the customer will be is the next decision to
be made. Whom will the company target as a customer? Will it be a business? Or will it be a
consumer? Business to business (B2B) marketing has differences from business to consumer (B2C)
marketing practices. This paper will outline these differences between the two types of e commerce
business transactions.
Traditional marketing in the business to business environment requires very different strategies
from those campaigns directed towards the consumer market. (ExtraVision, n.d., p. 1) Consumer
competition can be a lot fiercer, with customer loyalty a constant battle.? (ExtraVision, n.d., p.1)...

After the consumer makes his selection from the landing page, a transition to the shopping cart and
checkout page is simply the next step to complete the transaction. In a business to business e mail
marketing campaign the e mail is only a part of the marketing. The e mail to a business must
contain contact information for offline communications, and an attachment for downloading
catalog or price list information. The e mail is followed up by sales representatives who will also
forward quotes and snail mail an information packet (Weil, 2002).
The e mail sent to either a business or consumer must be enticing to the customer. It should be
colorful and have pertinent information. A URL leading the customer to the landing page is
imperative in order to either generate the lead for a business transaction, or lead a consumer to a
?Specials? page with the current sales displayed. After the e mail has been received by the business
or consumer, the Internet website landing page is browsed by either type of customer. Here is
where the business wishing to do business must obtain permission to take information from the
customers or businesses perusing their landing page. When doing a business to business
transaction, permission involves assuring the business information shared will be kept private. This
will lead to more lead generation (Weil, 2002). Business to consumer transactions require obtaining
permission in a different way. Here a

The Horrifying Shower Scene in Alfred Hitchcock s Film,...
In this essay I will be doing a close analysis on the famous shower scene in Alfred Hitchcock s
Psycho, 1960. I will be looking at the mise en scГЁne, performance, cinematography, editing, and
the manipulation of sound. I will also be looking at themes that are explored in the film and what
messages they convey to the audience. I will be using some theories to help analyze this particular
sequence.
At the beginning of the clip we can see the Marion flushing pieces of paper down the toilet in a
close up shot. Diegetic sound of the flushing is used. The close up reveals that the pieces of
paper were a key prop in the film and the audience is left wondering why the Marion has disposed
the paper. This suggests that Hitchcock has used a red herring because the audience may assume
she has done this because the paper may have had evidence that would prove that she is guilty of
something. This also creates an enigma because we suspect that she has a secret hat she is keeping.
Enigmas and red herrings are usually found in thriller films to create mystery and tension.
The Sound before the Marion get s into the shower is very quiet as we only hear non diegetic
music that slowly builds up to frightening slow pace music which creates tension for the audience
as it notifies us that something is about to happen. When the scene moves to Marion being in the
shower the music stops and you can just hear the sound of the shower when it comes on. We can
see that the shower curtains are

After a four year wait, Tim Jordan and his family were given an allotment close to their home in
which they grew vegetables and happily ate them. However, they received a letter from the local
authorities stating that the soil on the allotment was poisoned with lead and arsenic, and was
therefore unsafe. After months of consultations, the local council sent off samples of the soil to
multiple laboratories to get it analysed. The results of which tests deemed the levels of toxins in
the soil to be low enough not to prove a threat to human health, and so normal gardening was
resumed in the allotments. Jordan and his family decided to give up the allotment because expert
knowledge in the field of science was reliant on assumptions about the soil and they were uncertain
of the risks posed by the poisoned soil. But the validity of the scientific tests was questioned by the
UK Government s environmental agency (EA) who claimed that the results of the tests were
questionable because the tests seem to find differing levels of toxins, and so the EA submitted the
same samples to nine laboratories in the UK and Wales, to one in the USA, and one in the
Netherlands. The results they produced demonstrated enough variation between the laboratories to
suggest that such tests may be underestimating the poisons.

The Importance Of JROTC Lessons In Providing A Service
What does it mean to serve someone? Serving someone means that you offered your own time to
help that person and you don t expect anything in return. The Bible tells us in Matthew 20:28 that

many. In other words, Jesus came only to serve the people of the world and even died for us. I am

First, I learned that helping others is one of the best things that you can do. When you help
people, it makes them feel good and even feel some relief. Whenever I help someone, I always
feel better afterwards. At the end of the day, I feel like I can relax. Second, I learned that people
really appreciate it when you help them. My grandmother has been grateful to me ever since I
started helping her by doing basic chores around her house. Third, I learned that people will have
a lot of respect for you. They see that you took time out of your busy schedule to help them and
they will not forget it. They will also be able to trust you. It makes me feel like a better person if
people trust me. Finally, I learned that helping someone else can get your mind off of your own
problems. If you did badly on a test, had a death in the family, or you are just having a bad day
for any reason, serving others will be a good way to keep you from thinking about it. It would be
like getting a good workout at the gym. JROTC is a good program and it has helped me with
being a leader and serving others. Its lesson, Leadership Defined , was the most beneficial to me.

†The decentralisation of retailing and other services has...
In the 1950s and 1960s shops selling high order goods, like furniture and jewellery, were in the
town and city centres, which attracted customers from a wide catchment area. Shops selling low
order goods, like food, were located in the local neighbourhoods. However, this traditional shopping
pattern began to change in the 1970s, when shops like supermarkets and DIY stores began to move
to the outskirts of towns by decentralisation. Although it is obvious that the decentralisation of
retailing and other services has had a major impact on urban areas, the impacts have been negative,
positive or neutral.
There are a number of reasons for the growth in out of town retailing. Firstly, increased car
ownership has meant that many more people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Bluewater in Kent is built in a former quarry. This redevelopment of brownfield sites
can often help to regenerate an area. In city centres, positive impacts include local councils and the
government investing money into improving the city centre, in order to attract customers back.
Some of these improvements may include creating new pedestrian zones, renovating older
shopping malls and organising events. Also, pollution and congestion may decrease as fewer
people drive to the city centre to shop. These positive impacts may lead people to believe that the
decentralisation of retailing and other services has had a major positive impact on urban areas.
The Trafford Centre opened in 1998. It was built on a brownfield site in the industrial area of
Trafford Park, 5 miles west of Manchester. The site covers 150 acres and cost ВЈ600,000 to
complete. The Trafford Centre has the largest catchment area of any shopping centre in the UK,
with over 5.3 million people living within a 45 minute drive. The Centre is popular for a number
of reasons. Firstly, the Trafford Centre has over 200 shops, a 1600 seat food court, a 20 screen

very close to the M60 for customers coming from outside of Manchester, and the M602 into the

The exclusive finding of the G6 vareant in all camel and human isolates in Qalyobia
Governorate, Egypt indicates the presence of a predominant transmission cycle in which the
camel strain exist. Our findings confirms a previous study done using RAPD PCR for
characterization of human and animal hydatid cysts, it has been shown that human and camel
isolates were the most related pair and camels are important hosts for the transmission of human
hyadatidosis (Azab 2004). Similarly, performing the cycle sequencing and nucleotide sequence
analysis identified the G6 genotype in 30 (96.8%) out of 31 human isolates in Cairo, Egypt
(Abdel Aaty 2012). Although the camel strain G6 is traditionally considered as less infective to
humans (SantivaГ±ez 2008; Casulli 2010), recent molecular findings (M rad 2005; Osman 2009;
Adel Aaty 2012) as well as ours suggest that the prevalence of infection of this genotype may be
higher than previously thought. Among the ten genotypes of Eceohinococcus granoeulosus (EG)
recognized worldwide, only 5 strains were known to infect humans including G1, G2, G5, G6, and
G7 strains (Table 4). The most frequent strain associated with human CE appears to be the sheep

sheep farming (Grosso 2012). Sequancing of our samples revealed

The Battle Of The Peloponnesian War
What a society considers fighting, and dying, for says a lot about that society. Homer s The Iliad,
and Thucydides The History of the Peloponnesian War are both centered on some of the largest
wars that their authors knew about. In the case of The Iliad, this war started when Paris offended
the honor of the Spartan king, Menelaus, by taking Helen, the king s wife. This is just an example
of the culture of the times because, right from the start, the Greeks of Homer fight for their honor.
Thucydides lived during the Peloponnesian War, hundreds of years after Homer. During those
hundreds of years, war itself had fundamentally changed. In The History of the Peloponnesian War,
honor was still important, but the war s main purpose was much more tangible. The main cause of
the Peloponnesian War was Athens desire for more land, more tribute states, and, most importantly,
more power. Both of the works deal largely with why the people in them think the wars are worth
fighting. In the case of The Iliad, the battles, both for the states and the people fighting, are fought
for honor, while in The History of the Peloponnesian War, Athens fights for the power of her empire.
In Homer s work, the Trojan Waris fought not for conquest or wealth but for the honor of the
Spartan king Menelaus after he had his wife taken by Paris of Troy. In the eyes of the Greeks,
this was a slight on his honor worthy of war. Early on in the work, Helen despairs at being the
cause of the war. She laments

The Persian War And The Ottoman Empire Of Persia Essay
Persian War
The Persian Wars were a series of conflicts between the Achaemenid Empire of Persia (modern
day Iran) and Greek city states that started in 499 BC and lasted until 449 BC. The collision
between the fractious political world of the Greeks and the enormous empire of the Persians
began when Cyrus the Great conquered the Greek inhabited region of Ionia in 547 BC.
Struggling to rule the independent minded cities of Ionia, the Persians appointed tyrants to rule
each of them. This would prove to be the source of much trouble for the Greeks and Persians
alike. Before digging into the implications of Persian War, it is necessary to examine the process of
this war.
In the first stage of the war between Persia and Greece, the Persian armies were led by king Darius
I (550 486 B. C.). The Persians lost to the Athenians and their Greek allies. One of the famous
land battles was Marathon in 490 B.C. The Persians were defeated by the Athenians and the
Plataeans. News of the victory was delivered by a messenger who ran the 26 miles from Marathon
to Athens, and who died afterwards.
The second stage of the war saw the Persians arrive on the Greek shore with perhaps as many as
2,000,000 men, between their army and navy, under the command of king Xeres I (519 465 B.C.),
son of the deceased Darius I. An advanced party of only 5,000 Greeks, including Spartans,
Phocians and Locrians, under the command of one of the Spartan kings, Leonidas (a descendent of
Hercules), held off the

This Is Our Life Poem Comparison
Both of the poems mentioned that because of science fiction we are seeing the world differently.
Instead of seeing the real effects of how we are and what we do we see things to be a fantasy.
Seeing how we re not paying attention to the actual surroundings we don t really think about why
things happen. We just see things as normal because it s something we don t really think about. In
the first poem the opening started out with This is not a fantasy, this is our life. Throughout this
poem it mentions that we are the inventors and that we are the people who make the changes with
our surroundings. Being in charge of this gives us an important role on the things that we hold
together. The second poem just speaks about the negative things about this kind of genrebecause it

Eric Maria Remarque s All Quiet On The Western Front
The effects of war on young people lead to the regression of humanity. This statement will be
proved by referring to the novel by Eric Maria Remarque, All Quiet on the Western Front, poems
from Wilfred Owen, Anthem of the Doomed Youth,, To any dead officer , They as well as Christ
and the soldier by Siegfried Sassoon, music lyrics from Roger Whittaker s I Don t Believe In If
Anymore, art pieces like Mealtime and Feeling wounded by Otto Dix and Egon Schieles portrait of
Reserve Lieutenant Heinrich Wagner and portrait of an Officer. When referring to the above
mentioned genres we will be focusing on the dehumanisation, demoralisation and disillusionment of
war that leads to the regression of humanity.
One of the paramount effects of war on young people is the dehumanization of humanity.
Dehumanization is the psychological occurrence of demonizing the enemy or one self, manufacture
them to appear less than human and therefore not worthy of humane behaviour (Maiese, 2003).
Maiese (2003) adds that it can lead to amplified viciousness, human rights violations, war

The Techniques Used in American Beauty Essay
The п¬Ѓlm American Beauty, directed by Sam Mendes is a п¬Ѓlm about imprisonment and escape
from imprisonment (Mendes, 1999). American Beauty explores the breakdown of a suburban
family man whose life journeys from self loathing and emptiness to freedom and liberation but at
the ultimate cost of his life. Mendes effectively employs a range of techniques to help convey the
meaning of this п¬Ѓlm such as set design, camera angles, colour and soundtrack.
Cinema often uses structured set design and camera angles to convey meaning to an audience.
Throughout American Beauty, MendesКј use of set design and camera angles have been carefully
structured to emphathise the п¬ЃlmКјs theme of imprisonment. In the opening scene the
audienceКјs introduction to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Interestingly, as the п¬Ѓlm progresses and LesterКјs relationships evolve, the camera angles also
evolve in reverse and the audience begins to see Lester shot in a low angle and characters like
Carolyn are shot in a high angle, indicating that Carolyn is now vulnerable. These altered camera
angles give Lester a triumphant image.
Another technique Mendes uses is colour. The use of colour is often an important technique utilised
by п¬Ѓlm directors to communicate themes and ideas to an audience. In American Beauty, Mendes
powerfully uses colour to communicate that the characters are attempting to escape from their
imprisonment. Initially the characters are seen in environments that are very dull and nondescript,
as Mendes (1999) states when referring to LesterКјs work setting. As LesterКјs quest for
escapement gains momentum, the vivid colour of red is gradually introduced more into this п¬Ѓlm
through subtle furnishings in the Burnham house and particularly integrated with LesterКјs sexual
fantasies. The use of the vibrant, red rose petal is п¬Ѓrst introduced when Lester and Carolyn
attend JaneКјs cheer performance, where Lester loses himself as he enters his п¬Ѓrst tunnel of
fantasy (Mendes, 1999). Deschler (1999) states the rose is symbolic of American beauty, and the
colour red symbolises passion and love. The significance of the rose petal and the colour red is
repeatedly seen throughout the п¬Ѓlm in house furnishings such as a bouquet of

Communism In Latin America
Among the ways the United States tried to curb the spread of communism in Latin America, was
interfere in the inner policies of their countries. They were involving themselves in Nicaragua, El
Salvador, and Guatemala. They were trying to convince Latin America that it was in their best
interests to stay away from communist beliefs.
America was afraid that if communism spread to the neighboring countries it would eventually
come to the United States, so they felt it was their duty to prevent it from ever entering Latin
America, to nip it in the bud . If they succeeded in stopping the advancement of communism to
Latin America, they would not have to worry about communism spreading throughout the world.
Of course their fear of communism was only a precursor to the real reason America was tangling

Who is Israel, Who is Jesus, and Who is the church, demonstrate a synchronistic relationship with

Augustine, with Jesus as its head and us as the body, shows an intimacy between the Head and
the body leading us to mystical union with Christ. Continuing, Augustine insists not only will
Christ make us one in Him, but one person, and that the church s structure reflects not a series of
individuals but a unity speaking as one. St Gregory demonstrates this in his expositions on the
Psalms, Psalm 60, The psalm, he says, speaks as though one single person is praying. But it is
not a lone individual; it is a unity speaking as one. In Christ, He molds us into one person whose
head is in heaven and whose limbs are toiling on earth. Gregory the Great echoes Augustine s
usage of the word person in the same way. He says, Our redeemer has shown himself to be one
person with the holy Church, whom he has taken to himself. Hence, one can conclude that as
members united with Christ as the body to the head, Christ transfigured us into his selfless gift of
love. Throughout scripture the imagery depicting a bridegroom s love for his spouse helps to
understand this

This door leads to the mind of Eddie Dean, a heroin addict also from our New York, 1986. Eddie

Rhetorical Analysis On Want It All
Wanting It All Is Easy Recently Nike dropped a commercial titled Want It All and it is an
extremely interesting advertisement. Nike just became the new official sponsor of the National
Basketball Association (NBA) and it needed an advertisement to excite the fans of the league
and get them excited for the new season. Nike took the spot from one of its top rivals in the
athletic wear world, Adidas, so they needed to put out a strong front and show people that they
were just as good if not better than their competitor. Nike is an extremely well known distributor
for athletic wear and sporting goods. In the commercial, Nike uses a fictional person who goes by
the name of Donte Grand and is an extremely skilled basketballplayer. He grows up in the inner
city and does not come from a lot, but he excels in basketball and shows that no matter where you
come from, if you want it all, you are going to have to go and get it. Throughout the commercial,
he transitions from his front yard to the local outdoor court, to his high school, college, and
eventually pro teams where he is playing in the NBA Finals which is the championship with big
time Nike sponsored players such as Kevin Durant and Lebron James. The advertisement uses ethos
and pathos to help convey its message. The first rhetorical device that is obviously noticeable is the
appeal to pathos in the advertisement. The first thing you notice in the advertisement is the almost
terrible conditions of the buildings and streets

The book talks about the will in genetic testing, to find your ancestry. It is important for people
of different races to understand where they come from. I believe this could lead to pove of
equality for all people and stop political upreits. Nelson introduced this ide when she described
this, Genetic genealogy testing with enduring human desire: the search roots and identity .
Everybody wants to know where they came from, and genetic testing helps with that. Once a
person finds out their true origin, the truth comes out. It amazes me that genetic testing can
change a whole community and their values. The book also enforced this fact because Our DNA
hopes are more boundless than we often fully apprehend or dare to admit , it s not just about how
it affects mankind, it is also about how far we go to find out things we may not want to. Nelson
made me realize that my view on genetics was not reaching it s full capacity. As I read on it talked
about the advances in politics and the discrimination for race and how genetics is working to
improve it, the book pointed out that the sociopolitical backdrop against which the decoding of the
human genome unfolded also played a role in the use of genetics in reparations in politics . Nelson
goes on to talk about how all of human kinds DNA is extremely similar. If this is the case why is
there discrimination. Its genetic testing that gives evidence to the things that are proven

Christian Elements In Beowulf
The intermingling of Christian ideas and classical rhetoric has set the foundation for many
centuries of literature works. The overlap of elements appeals to readers who are accustomed to
Biblical language while simultaneously engaging with their imaginative experience of a secular
world, an expression that is observed in the epic poem Beowulf. Commonly cited as one of the most
important works of Old English literature, the poem provides valuable insight into a culture that
resembles our own societal challenges while simultaneously remaining distant from the present day
world. This analytical essay will focus on the strategic use of words and phrases and how the poets
emphasis on religious association invokes the answers to many central human perplexities. Through
its use of repetitive elements and various motifs within Christian and pagan values, the poet builds
on the many elements within virtuous philosophy. Although many analytical dissertations interpret
the influence that Beowulf s diction has on Christian ideals, it is critical to examine how the
poem s religious expression affects its pagan characters. Many literary works incorporate stock
elements to continuously keep their readers engaged in the purpose of its context. These elements
are distinct analogous words or phrases that are chosen to convey the rhetorical device. The author
of Beowulf repeatedly acknowledged God as an all mighty figure that overshadows the lives of
both its readers and the

INTRODUCTION At its height, the ancient Assyrian Empire stretched from the north in the
upper Tigris river valley, south to the northern tip of the Persian Gulf including Babylon, along
the Mediterranean Sea from Tarsus to Jerusalem and all the way down into Egypt to the city of
Thebes. This vast empire took several thousand years to build. Early settlements can be traced
back to the northern city of Nineveh around 5000 B.C. The success of this nearly 2000 year
empire had a lot to do with the way the rulers divided up the empire into states with local
governors; a radical idea during that time. The advances they made in the area of science and

There was a cheerful atmosphere in San Francisco s City Hall that morning. Supervisor Harvey Milk s good mood was due to Mayor George Moscone s upcoming announcement to the press. He was going to publicize that he had decided not to reappoint the ultra conservative voice for the family , Dan White, back to the board of supervisors. He served five years in prison for his crime. In the context of the assassination of two government officials, the jury s conviction is almost inconsequential. To fully understand the implication of the term voluntary manslaughter it is necessary to distinguish the different classifications of murder as defined by California State law. The definition of murder constitutes both deliberation and premeditation, while voluntary manslaughter is defined as the killing of another human spontaneously with the lack of previous planning. After staying up all night, Dan White called his secretary and asked for a ride to City Hall, having no purpose to be in the building, due to the fact that he was no longer employed there. Some of the properties of this gas include being odorless, tasteless, and colorless. The concentrations vary throughout the country depending on the types of rocks that are found in the soil. Exposure over prolonged periods of time to radon decay products has been associated with an increased risk of lung cancer.(3) The EPA describes an elevated concentration as being at or above their suggested guidelines of 4pCi/l (pico Curies per liter, used as a radiation unit of measure for radon). Uranium and its by products of decay, namely radon are abundant and are constantly being generated.(13) Radon is capable of easily traveling through rocks and soil.(14) The gas is also found dissolved in water, due to decay in the soil or rock below.(15) Radon in Water The risk from radon in water is much lower than the risk from radon in air. This is because the water must be heated or agitated to release the gas. This can happen in a shower, boiling water on a stove, or by using a washing machine. Most public water supplies don t present a radon risk, this is because the water is aerated at the treatment site and the gas escapes into the atmosphere. Most water that contains hazardous amounts of radon comes from wells. Wells should be tested for radon if the building that they are supplying contains hazardous amounts in the air. The testing procedures for water are different from those used on air.(16) Water containing radon can usually be treated. The most effective treatment is to remove radon from the water before it enters the home, this is called point of entry treatment. Water can also be treated at the tap, this is known as point of use treatment. However this treatment is much less effective at removing the risk.(17) Radon Entry Radon travels through the ground and into the air, allowing the gas to easily enter buildings and homes. ... • 13. The Horrifying Shower Scene in Alfred Hitchcock s Film,... In this essay I will be doing a close analysis on the famous shower scene in Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho, 1960. I will be looking at the mise en scГЁne, performance, cinematography, editing, and the manipulation of sound. I will also be looking at themes that are explored in the film and what messages they convey to the audience. I will be using some theories to help analyze this particular sequence. At the beginning of the clip we can see the Marion flushing pieces of paper down the toilet in a close up shot. Diegetic sound of the flushing is used. The close up reveals that the pieces of paper were a key prop in the film and the audience is left wondering why the Marion has disposed the paper. This suggests that Hitchcock has used a red herring because the audience may assume she has done this because the paper may have had evidence that would prove that she is guilty of something. This also creates an enigma because we suspect that she has a secret hat she is keeping. Enigmas and red herrings are usually found in thriller films to create mystery and tension. The Sound before the Marion get s into the shower is very quiet as we only hear non diegetic music that slowly builds up to frightening slow pace music which creates tension for the audience as it notifies us that something is about to happen. When the scene moves to Marion being in the shower the music stops and you can just hear the sound of the shower when it comes on. We can see that the shower curtains are ... After a four year wait, Tim Jordan and his family were given an allotment close to their home in which they grew vegetables and happily ate them. However, they received a letter from the local authorities stating that the soil on the allotment was poisoned with lead and arsenic, and was therefore unsafe. After months of consultations, the local council sent off samples of the soil to multiple laboratories to get it analysed. The results of which tests deemed the levels of toxins in the soil to be low enough not to prove a threat to human health, and so normal gardening was resumed in the allotments. Jordan and his family decided to give up the allotment because expert knowledge in the field of science was reliant on assumptions about the soil and they were uncertain of the risks posed by the poisoned soil. But the validity of the scientific tests was questioned by the UK Government s environmental agency (EA) who claimed that the results of the tests were questionable because the tests seem to find differing levels of toxins, and so the EA submitted the same samples to nine laboratories in the UK and Wales, to one in the USA, and one in the Netherlands. The results they produced demonstrated enough variation between the laboratories to suggest that such tests may be underestimating the poisons. Homer s The Iliad, and Thucydides The History of the Peloponnesian War are both centered on some of the largest wars that their authors knew about. In the case of The Iliad, this war started when Paris offended the honor of the Spartan king, Menelaus, by taking Helen, the king s wife. This is just an example of the culture of the times because, right from the start, the Greeks of Homer fight for their honor. Thucydides lived during the Peloponnesian War, hundreds of years after Homer. During those hundreds of years, war itself had fundamentally changed. In The History of the Peloponnesian War, honor was still important, but the war s main purpose was much more tangible. The main cause of the Peloponnesian War was Athens desire for more land, more tribute states, and, most importantly, more power. Both of the works deal largely with why the people in them think the wars are worth fighting. In the case of The Iliad, the battles, both for the states and the people fighting, are fought for honor, while in The History of the Peloponnesian War, Athens fights for the power of her empire. In Homer s work, the Trojan Waris fought not for conquest or wealth but for the honor of the Spartan king Menelaus after he had his wife taken by Paris of Troy. In the eyes of the Greeks, this was a slight on his honor worthy of war. Early on in the work, Helen despairs at being the cause of the war. She laments ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. The Persian War And The Ottoman Empire Of Persia Essay Persian War The Persian Wars were a series of conflicts between the Achaemenid Empire of Persia (modern day Iran) and Greek city states that started in 499 BC and lasted until 449 BC. The collision between the fractious political world of the Greeks and the enormous empire of the Persians began when Cyrus the Great conquered the Greek inhabited region of Ionia in 547 BC. Struggling to rule the independent minded cities of Ionia, the Persians appointed tyrants to rule each of them. This would prove to be the source of much trouble for the Greeks and Persians alike. Before digging into the implications of Persian War, it is necessary to examine the process of this war. In the first stage of the war between Persia and Greece, the Persian armies were led by king Darius I (550 486 B. C.). The Persians lost to the Athenians and their Greek allies. One of the famous land battles was Marathon in 490 B.C. The Persians were defeated by the Athenians and the Plataeans. News of the victory was delivered by a messenger who ran the 26 miles from Marathon to Athens, and who died afterwards. The second stage of the war saw the Persians arrive on the Greek shore with perhaps as many as 2,000,000 men, between their army and navy, under the command of king Xeres I (519 465 B.C.), son of the deceased Darius I. An advanced party of only 5,000 Greeks, including Spartans, Phocians and Locrians, under the command of one of the Spartan kings, Leonidas (a descendent of Hercules), held off the ... Instead of seeing the real effects of how we are and what we do we see things to be a fantasy. In the first poem the opening started out with This is not a fantasy, this is our life. Throughout this poem it mentions that we are the inventors and that we are the people who make the changes with our surroundings. The fact that people want to get rid of the genre is reasonable because it s just like hearing false propaganda. We must be able to see how the things we can cause and not be told we have nothing to do with everything that is around us. This statement will be proved by referring to the novel by Eric Maria Remarque, All Quiet on the Western Front, poems from Wilfred Owen, Anthem of the Doomed Youth,, To any dead officer , They as well as Christ and the soldier by Siegfried Sassoon, music lyrics from Roger Whittaker s I Don t Believe In If Anymore, art pieces like Mealtime and Feeling wounded by Otto Dix and Egon Schieles portrait of Reserve Lieutenant Heinrich Wagner and portrait of an Officer. When referring to the above mentioned genres we will be focusing on the dehumanisation, demoralisation and disillusionment of war that leads to the regression of humanity. One of the paramount effects of war on young people is the dehumanization of humanity. Dehumanization is the psychological occurrence of demonizing the enemy or one self, manufacture them to appear less than human and therefore not worthy of humane behaviour (Maiese, 2003). Maiese (2003) adds that it can lead to amplified viciousness, human rights violations, war corruptions, and genocide. In All Quiet on the Western Front (1994), soldiers rarely saw the... American Beauty explores the breakdown of a suburban family man whose life journeys from self loathing and emptiness to freedom and liberation but at the ultimate cost of his life. Cinema often uses structured set design and camera angles to convey meaning to an audience. The use of colour is often an important technique utilised by п¬Ѓlm directors to communicate themes and ideas to an audience. In American Beauty, Mendes powerfully uses colour to communicate that the characters are attempting to escape from their imprisonment. Initially the characters are seen in environments that are very dull and nondescript, as Mendes (1999) states when referring to LesterКјs work setting. As LesterКјs quest for escapement gains momentum, the vivid colour of red is gradually introduced more into this п¬Ѓlm through subtle furnishings in the Burnham house and particularly integrated with LesterКјs sexual fantasies. St Gregory demonstrates this in his expositions on the Psalms, Psalm 60, The psalm, he says, speaks as though one single person is praying. Commonly cited as one of the most important works of Old English literature, the poem provides valuable insight into a culture that resembles our own societal challenges while simultaneously remaining distant from the present day world.
