The Mill on the Floss was unlike any production I ve ever seen. Over and over again, different
production choices made me raise an eyebrow, but after chewing on them, those deliberate
decisions made sense. Ultimately, the play s use of unrealistic elements served as a means for the
audience to step further into Maggie s life and to glean greater meaning from the production. This
could be seen in numerous places throughout the play: when cousin Lucy was portrayed as a doll,
when Maggie was portrayed by three different people and when she symbolically drowned on
the ducking chair (Edmundsen Houghton). All of those instances came together to create a
harmony in the play. In one of the first obvious moments of the theatricalized nature of the play,
Maggie s family rolled on her cousin, Lucy (more or less). She was a child sized mannequin.
While at first glance this seemed like a stale joke, I began to realize that from Maggie s point of
view, Lucy was the doll. Fragile, delicate, quiet and lady like in every way. Maggie, on the other

I love this. I can t bring myself to say anything else about it. It doesn t really help that one of my
biggest obsessions since childhood is Peter Pan and let me tell you, boy does this bring Peter Pan to
the next level. I was skeptical at first, being such a big fan of the original story I couldn t help but
fear how this book would play out. I was pleasantly surprised and then blown away by the whole
thing, this is one book I will read over and over again.
Let me start off with pointing out the certain parallels between this story and Peter Pan, at least the
ones I could catch that I could avoid spoilers with. This story starts off with the main character,
Olivia (also called Livy), reading the story Peter Pan to the children in the hosptial. May I present

the fact that this story took Peter Pan at face value fantasy elements and all. It did also give it s
own spin. Neverland is the place children go when they die before choosing to move on, or grow
up as it were. Meyer/Peter is their guardian, he rules Neverland and protects the children there.
Hook, who in this story is named James Hale, is death. He is the one that comes for the children
in the real world and also forces Meyer to follow the rules. There is still the famous rift between
the two, but sadly Hale has both hands and no hook to go with his

country a better place. People have looked over the amendments and want some change. This

better. My first amendment I want to consider changing is the 2nd amendment the right to bear
arms. This amendment was created to allow anybody have and carry guns. I believe it should be
changed because of all the gun problems we have had including 9/11, and different other terrorist
attacks. My reasoning on why this needs to happen is simple, public terror is not protected under
the Constitution (Feinblatt). Some lawmakers have considered that open carry is threating public
safety. Now because it is legal in some states, open carry activists take full advantage of the
loophole in the 2nd amendment, which typically operates past the limits of the law (Feinblatt).
Until we close the open carry loophole in our laws the armed intimidation will continue to serve as
