Advent Research Paper
Advent is a season observed in many Western Christian churches as a time of expectant waiting and
preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas. The term is a version of the
Latin word meaning coming .
Latin adventus is the translation of the Greek word parousia, commonly used to refer to the Second
Coming of Christ. For Christians, the season of Advent anticipates the coming of Christ from three
different perspectives. Since the time of Bernard of Clairvaux(d.1153) Christians have spoken of
the three comings of Christ: in the flesh in Bethlehem, in our hearts daily, and in glory at the end of
time. [1] The season offers the opportunity to share in the ancient longing for the coming of the
Messiah, and to be alert ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first clear references to the Western Church to Advent occur in the Gelasian Sacramentary,
which provides Advent Collects, Epistles, and Gospels for the five Sundays preceding Christmas
and for the corresponding Wednesdays and Fridays.[14] While the Sunday readings relate to the
first coming of Jesus Christ as savior as well as to his second coming as judge, traditions vary in
the relative importance of penitence and expectation during the weeks in Advent.
Liturgical colors[edit]

The usual liturgical color in Western Christianity for Advent is either violet (or purple) or blue.[15]
The violet or purple color is often used for hangings around the church, the vestments of the clergy,
and often also the tabernacle. In some Christian denominations, blue, a color representing hope, is
an alternative liturgical color for Advent, a custom traced to the usage of

An Analysis Of John Vote By John Capote
Capote Essay 2 Although Capote uses section two to display Perry s actual innocence, Capote s
true aspirations are to display that a seventh person Holcomb has too died ; therefore, he contends
that the repercussions of the murders actions are felt by all, and will permanently break and kill
their spirits and morale even if the town itself appears untouched. The tomb of the unknown soldier
sits in silence day in and day out, as if it never changes. It is always dressed in wreaths and sorrow.
Like the tomb, rests a seventh indirectly identified death. Capote is identifying the seventh unknown
death in the book, and Capote is engraving the name to the head stone HOLCOMB. To the naked
eye it may seem as though Holcomb has never... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Between these two quotes, it is obvious that the group of friends and neighbors are gathering
together at the same place, around the same time of year, yet are together for very different
reasons. The parallel of the two days in atmosphere allows Capote to draw emphasis on the different
reason for being together. It truly goes to show that Capote is attempting to show the town has
drastically changed and silently died in spirit. A town that once anticipated the prizes from their gun
shots now dreaded the clean up of another s.
As the friends approach the house, Capote implements connotations to again show the now dead
spirit of Holcomb. First he describes Going out there we always had such welcome ( Capote 78).
Welcome in a home can commonly be connotated with other words such as warmth, acceptance,
friendly and joyous atmosphere. However Capote continues with, On the present occasion, a
highway patrolman welcomed them (Capote 78). More often than not, a patrolman is an
unfortunate encounter. Once again, with connotations of welcome and patrolman Capote illustrates
that Holcomb is just not the same environment as it once was.
Citizens suffered individually too. Dewey has lived in numerous large cities and

Computer s Ability Ascended And Price Cut Down
During the initial days of Information Technology, when computers were very costly and less
influential than they are nowadays only large administrations and a few entities used them to
compose programs. As, the computer s ability ascended and price cut down, it became accessible in
inclusive diversity of work locations. This directed to a revolution in the environment in which
software was industrialized and maintained and it obscure the requirement to a diverse management
and institute. The result of these variations is apparent in the difficulties of software calamity. The
request for great excellence stylish software systems outperforms the amount of few schemes. The
outcome of these schemes is management related matters which have reserved at a greater

The T-34 Research Paper
The tank was one of the deadliest weapons in World War 2. Over 331,000 tanks were produced
during the war. Most of the countries fighting in the war had tanks, including the British,
Americans, Germans, and the Soviets. All of these countries had tanks that outperformed their other
tanks, and that outperformed the other countries tanks. One of these was the Soviet s T 34.
The T 34 was created to replace the BT series of fast, lightweight tanks. The Soviet realized the
BT s weakness in battle and requested its official replacement in 1937, two years before World
War Two. The T 34 became the most produced tank in the war and is considered to be one of the
best tanks in the war. Jason Belcourt, talking about the T 34, said In 1941 when Hitler launched
Barbarossa, the tank was indisputably the best in the world. The T 34 was able to stop the German
advancement into the Soviet Union and save the country. The T 34 had some flaws though. The
sloping armor of the T 34 provided safety from the weak 40 mm guns of the Germans, but the
armor made the quarters cramped and the working conditions poor. To go along with the small size
of the tank, the technology was very outdated. To communicate with the other tanks, a flag system
would have to be used. The aiming systems were also very outdated and couldn t compete ... Show

The Americans also had a tank of their own; the M4 Sherman. The Sherman was a huge asset to
the Allied operations in North Africa, Europe and in the Pacific. It was cheap, easy to make, and

Sherman was able to accommodate a 5 man crew and was able to go 25 MPH for 120 miles. The
Sherman was a great tank that was used many decades into the Cold War. The Sherman was able to
serve its country by being a reliable weapon to fall back on and being cheap and easy enough to

History Of The North American Free Trade Agreement Essay
The NAFTA Controversy The purpose of this document is to explore the history of the North
American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the effects NAFTA has had on Canada, the United
States of America (specifically American labor and job market) and Mexico. It will also delve into
the current state of NAFTA, the advantages and disadvantages to American economy and what the
future holds for this historic trade agreement. NAFTA has effected many parts of the world and not
just the three countries who originally signed the agreement. It has caused several negative effects
for many, especially citizens of the United States; but what evidence is there of this claim. Before
jumping into the evidence for or against NAFTA, let s look at the history as this will bring some
perspective to the event. The roots of NAFTA stretch back well before its signing in induction in
1994. Many believe that the true origin of the idea of having a free trade agreement with
Northern, and Central America began with the signing of the Trade and Tariff Act in 1984 in the
USA congress. The Trade and Tariff Act was important as it lent the President of the United States
of America the ability to expedite the process of creating trade deals, leaving the USA Congress
the opportunity to approve or disapprove the proposal. This idea was pushed by Ronald Reagan and
passed. Reagan then began collaborating with the then Canadian Prime Minister, Brian Mulroney,
who signed an agreement of free trade between

Shintoism And The Problem Of Evil And Evil
The national religion of Japan, Shinto, is definitely a unique religion in many ways. It is one of the
few religions that someone cannot convert to. In other words, a person needs to be born into it and
grow up with it. And unlike many religions such as Christianity, Buddhism, and Confucianism,
Shinto has no known founder. With that said, Shintoalso has a unique view of the problem of evil
and suffering. For some religions, like Christianity, it is black and white on what they believe
about evil. For Shintoism, it is not that clear. Their main desire is to reach harmony, but they do
not stress evil or sin or suffering as much as other religions do. Yoshida Kanetomo, a prominent
Shinto priest during the 15th century, even bypassed the problem of evil and he took a more
optimistic approach. This is a theme in the Shinto religion, even mentioning Shintoism as a happy
religion. So how do they address the problem of evil? Shintoism addresses the problem of evil in
that they strive to drive out evil in order to reach harmony and a state of purity.
Shintoism believes they should drive evil out completely in their lives. They conceive good and
evil in aesthetic terms. The curved spirit, called the Magutsubi, is around and within humans.
This spirit is the cause of evil deeds, misfortunes, or disasters. There are evil deeds and thoughts
because of the works of the curved spirit. Motohisa Yamakage said it like this, good or moral

America s Moral Codes Of The United States
Ever since the early 17th century, the Jews in Philadelphia have been striving to become an
important part of the American society, while staying true to their roots. Although the Jews faced
exile from their homelands of Portugal and Spain, they were able to build and sustain a strong
Jewish community within Philadelphia and pave the way for future generations through extensive
actions throughout the community. They built hundreds of Jewish schools, Community Centres,
synagogues and established many congregations. They became strongly involved in the American
society and paved the way for many of America s moral codes (Telushkin). There are currently 275,
850 Jewsin Philadelphia, making it one of the strongest Jewish communities in the United States
(Levine). By the 15th century, there were many Jews living in Spain and Portugal. They were
well employed and were positively involved with the Spanish government. However, their
prosperity soon came to an end on July 30th, 1492, as the King of Spain ordered the Jews to
leave the land, and the entire Jewish community, some 200,000 people, were expelled from Spain
(Telushkin). The Jews split up almost equally, some travelling to Italy and the others travelled
Mexico and Brazil by boat (Morais 7). After spending hundreds of years in South America, Jewish
explorers found an opportunity to leave these countries and travel to the United States for trade. In
1650, many Jews arrived in New Amsterdam, currently known as New

while in a relationship and those not in a romantic relationship were followed and interviewed
during the early years of fatherhood. It is interesting to note that none of the men were married

with the large number of unsuccessful family outcomes with these men not more related to being in

Essay On The Antibacterial Effects Of Microorganisms
The main for the purpose of this study was to find out about the tolerance of Listeria
monocytogenes towards quaternary ammonium compounds (QAC). The antibacterial effects of
disinfectants are crucial for the control of Listeria monocytogenes in food processing environments.
Tolerance of L. monocytogenes to sub lethal levels of disinfectantsbased on QAC is conferred by
the resistant determinants qacH and bcrABC. The QAC based disinfectants which are in common
use in many food industries are found to have strains of qacH and bcrABC which are resistant to
QAC. It helps in the growth of these microorganisms with those particular strains (MГёretrГё et al.,

It is primarily a food borne infection and is particularly a problem on foods that are not cooked,
including ready to eat (RTE) meats, smoked fish, soft cheeses, unpasteurised dairy products, and
even in fresh produce. Thermal processing if milk and meat may occur but post processing
contamination does take place (Tiffany, 2015). L. monocytogenes that occur in food may originate
in soils from farms, in slaughtering facilities, in food processing plants and other equipment used in
food manufacture. The elimination of this bacteria can be challenging as it forms very resistant
biofilms (Oxaran et al., 2017). Bacterial biofilms are defined as surface associated bacterial
communities forming micro colonies surrounded by a matrix of exo polymers. Biofilms confer to
L. monocytogenes a greater resistance to antimicrobial agents and they allow microorganisms to
resist to environmental changes and cleaning/disinfection treatments (Tiffany, 2015). L.
monocytogenes possess an ability to establish itself in equipment or production environments and
single strains of the microorganisms have been shown to reoccur in production environment over
periods of years. The bacteria persist in environmental niches like cracks, inside equipment that are
protected from cleaning and disinfection routines (MГёretrГё et al., 2017).

THE MORAL PRINCIPLES OF PREMARTIAL SEX
Abstract
Over many years, the views of premarital sex have been becoming increasingly more tolerant. The
whole reasoning behind why sex was created is lost in the minds of society and used for pleasure
and own physical satisfaction. There are negative consequences for these actions leading to guilt,
depression, and numbness to intimate relationships. Having strong parental influence can also
strongly affect the outcomes of adolescence and causal sex. Additionally, marriagecan be ... Show

Hence, even if there may be a motivation for casual sex because of developing one s script or
fulfilling a man s physical satisfaction and a women s intimacy in a relationship, there are the same
emotional effects and negative outcomes that result from taking part in premarital sex. An action
that was morally right would not have
THE MORAL PRINCIPLES OF PREMARTIAL SEX negative emotional and psychological
consequences, which would conclude casual sex was not intended to be done before marriage.
There is also another consequence for participating in casual sex such as disturbance in later
marriage. Sexual scripts can be written prior to marriage, providing knowledge about their own
abilities, leading to a stable marriage because they may be able to make more informed choices
concerning marriage. It is also very likely for someone to misunderstand physical intimacy with
emotional potential, leading to disruption in marriage and make worse marital choices (Kahn,
London, 1991).
How is Marriage Effected? In today s society, adolescents have a positive opinion about
cohabitation before marriage. The view of marriage as an institution has faded and cohabitation has
taken a new part of this culture (Martin, Specter, Martin, amp; Martin, 2003). It has often been
questioned whether or not premarital sexual activity causes marriages to be disrupted. According to
Teachman, Premarital sex and cohabitation has not

Effect Of Sleep On Declarative Memory
Article Interrogation on Exploring the effect of sleep and reduced interference on different forms
of declarative memory In this article, researchers used three studies to attempt to determine if
sleep affects declarative memory (Schönauer, Pawlizki, Köck, Gais, 2014). The study seems to
test an association between the variables of sleep and declarative memory, and the study attempts
to make the casual claim that Sleep does not preferentially consolidate a specific kind of
declarative memory, but consistently promotes overall declarative memory formation (Schönauer

researchers appeared to carefully measure their variables and prioritized the different validities in

The Importance Of Cities In The Roman Empire
The importance of cities during Roman rule was unparalleled. With ever expanding colonization,
decentralization of government was invoked through the delegation of administrative functions to
local elites. Tax collection, military command through instructions, and occasionally acting as an
intermediary between competing local interests were a few roles carried out by these instrumental
leaders. They were the Publicans, of the equites class. These cities were a way for rules to
organize every citizen and also levy taxes to fund their expansion efforts, since most of the taxes
went to the military funds. Benefits in the city outweighed the minimum space you had in suburban
areas in the city of Rome there was a welfare system in place which was not available in smaller
towns. Food was exponentially more expensive compared to housing, and grain subsidies were such
an important institution that when Constantine moved the capital to Constantinople in the fourth
century, he instituted a grain subsidy which fed 80,000 people.1 A substantial portion of scientific
breakthroughs during these periods were deciphered in the city, where capable, well read inventors
attempted to solve the grievances of living in a dense population, and figuring out more efficient
means of transportation of goods. Also, these knowledgeable citizens generally resided in cities, not
in suburban localities, because of the abundance of resources and learning centers. An example of a

Political Importance Of Gandhi
Reflection 3
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was an important figure in the history of South Asia of the
twentieth century, Based on your readings, assess the political importance of Gandhi and compare
Metcalf`s approach with that of Jalal and Bose.
In the time of colonization, emerged a great number of political and religious figures that have had
a profound impact on the people of India, many of them are to this day remember as national
heroes. Perhaps the most famous of them all was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, who albeit being
targeted by controversies by some historians, has been a hero for the Indian community.
Gandhi was very different form the other leaders of that era, He was not just a political figure but
also a humanitarian and spiritual leader, He was called Mahatma which means Great Soul .One
with an uncanny ability to connect with a common man which is perhaps why his movements had
such a good following. One other thing which distinguished Gandhi was the fact that his ideology
was not limited to a single community or country. His commandments of non violence and peace
could be applied anywhere in the world and would`ve been just as effective. One such example is

and health issues related to acquiring a STD has been the reason why more attention has been

Essay Overpopulation’s Effect on Environment
The increasing world s population is a global issue and becomes a source of anxiety for many
scholars and decision makers around the globe. U.S. Census Bureau estimated that population
growth will persist into the 21st century, growing from 6 billion in 1999 to 9 billion by 2044
(2010). In a longer term, it is also projected that human populationmay keep increasing up to 36.4
billion in 2300 (United Nations, 2003). Population upsurge is considered a centre piece for a range
of problems world would encounter in the future. This essay will point out some of main problems
generated by population increase and propose some solutions to cope with the issues. In particular,
the focus will be on environmental, health, and social issues.

Growing population also shows a strong link to health problems. Health challenges particularly
emerge in places whose environment and people s lifestyle have been affected by overpopulation
consequences (Bull World Health Organ, 2010). It is obvious that risky conditions such as food
and water shortages, polluted air and water, insufficient sanitation, slum areas, stressful routines
and ease of disease spread are likely to take place in high density population regions rather than
less crowded one. All of these situations directly affect people s health and well being. For
instance, in 1999, it was estimated that around 700,000 Indians die each year from diarrhoea due to
lack of adequate sanitation and safe water (DeNormandie and Sunita 2002).
Another issue related to human population growth is social problems. The term can be defined as
common conditions that spoil any part of the community such as ethnic frictions, industrial
conflict, and so on. It is also related to behaviours and situations that break the rules, values and
customs in society such as crime, prostitution, drug addiction, and suicide (Long, 2010). It is true
that social problems are caused by many factors, range from economic hardship, to family
problems. However, it is also reasonable to say that a higher population neighbourhood tends to
have more social issues than a lower

How Does Lee Show Optimism In Maycomb In The 1930 s
Harper Lee s To Kill A Mockingbird is set in Maycomb, a fictional town in Alabama, in the 1930 s.
Through its strong themes of racism and discrimination, the novel could portray a depressing view
on life, but it s outcome is the opposite. The novel shows great optimism and hope for the future
through many reason, but largely centering with the perspective of the novelthrough a young child,
Jean Louise Scout Finch. Through her juvenility, she shows pure honesty and shows optimism
through Jem and herself, their father Atticus and the well known conviction of Tom Robinson.
Through the eyes of the young Scout, Harper Lee interjects the firm foundation on which the
book lies on, optimism. Scout and Jem Finch grew up in Maycomb, Alabama in the 1930 s.
Maycomb was a town full of racial discrimination, and swarmed with offensive views. Through
this way of life, Scout and Jem grew up and matured quickly, living in their explicit culture. From a
young age, Scout and Jem were confronted with racism, cruelty, violence and death, but were still
able to uphold an optimistic attitude. The 1930 s was also the time of the Great Depression, a

Beltway Poetry Slam Analysis
I attended the Beltway Poetry Slam which was held at the Busboys and Poets in Brookland NE.
During the poetry slam, I silently took notes in the back of the room and I made sure I was not

Before walking in, I didn t know what to expect. I choose to go to the Beltway Poetry Slam,
because I would have the opportunity to hear and feel the poets raw emotions. Before walking in, I
thought the poetry slam would have more of a competitive aspect.
There was very little competition and the poets didn t try to rebut or argue back. This experience
helped dispel some of my preconceived notions about how poetry slams work. I thought all poetry
slams are hyper competitive and but the poets who performed seemed as though they enjoyed being
on stage and they didn t seemed stressed.
During my time at Beltway Poetry Slam, I realized there were several common trends. All of the
poets were Black/African American and they brought up the negative problems pertaining to the
community such as abuse, rape, police brutality, violence, black women struggles, etc; essentially
becoming the themes of the poetry slam. These poets noted whether they have ... Show more

model of group development would have helped the team to effortlessly flow in regards to actually
building relationships and achieving team goals. Coming from my viewpoint, I assumed the
teams naturally followed the process to some extent, but after being introduced to the Group
Development Model, I realized that we were not follow any type of process at all. Most times,
problems occur, and we are faced with the challenge of trying to figure it out along the way as
we go. Managers should be equipped with the knowledge in order to have the ability in
understanding how groups develop and manage the group interaction, and task process at each
stage (Osland, 2007, P. 256). In order for our teams to be effective moving forward, I believe it
would be beneficial for us to operate accordingly based off of the model. The model of group
development breaks down the process into five different stages, which are known as: forming,
storming, norming, performing, and

Antecedentes Hacer anГЎlisis del discurso implicaba llevar a cabo una investigaciГіn desde un
enfoque cuantitativo (de manera descriptiva y esquemГЎtica) relacionando un nГєmero de
apariciones de expresiones con el ejercicio de dominaciГіn de un grupo sobre otro, por ejemplo;

An Essay On The Movie Atonement
The film, Atonement, is about a dramatic romance during the 1930 s in England. This film has
3 parts to it. First part tells the story of the Tallis Family in 1935. The two main characters,
Cecilia and Robbie, are in love but Cecilia s younger sister, Briony, does not like the idea of them
two being together. They had cousins living with them at the time. One evening the twin cousins
went missing and everybody was out searching for them. Briony stumbles across a man who has
apparently raped Lola. She was unable to identify the man clearly but gave Lola the idea that it
was Robbie. Lola accuses Robbie of doing this sexual action under pressure from Briony and the
lack of remembering the rapists face. Robbie was then sent to prison. The second part takes place...

It showed Robbie fighting in the battle of Dunkirk. He had to fight in the war to clear him from
a crime. There were many scenes in this movie that had happened in real life. For example, when
the British Army was waiting to evacuate the beaches of Dunkirk, the Germans still continued to
attack, which was an accurate detail from the war that was played in this movie. It showed that
the Germans were heartless. The battle of Dunkirk was a fight between Germany and the allies.
The Germans trapped British and French armies on the beaches of Dunkirk. There were about
330,000 men that were trapped. The beach was unable to allow large boats to get near where the
actual men were. Smaller boats were brought in where men boarded on and then soon after got
transferred to a larger boat. There were about 800 little ships that were used to save these men that
were trapped. Although there were numerous amounts of casualties, the evacuation was a boost for
the British and it gave confidence to the allies to keep fighting. This film was an accurate depiction
of the time period because it showed the tragic thoughts these men were thinking because of the fear

Examples Of Reinforcement Schedule
1.Provide 1 example of each type of reinforcement schedule: continuous, fixed interval, fixed ratio,
variable interval, variable ratio. For each example, clearly explain how it is an example of the
reinforcement schedule it is intended to illustrate. This includes identifying the stimulus, behavior
affected, and the consequence. Do not use the example of receiving a grade for schoolwork, a
paycheck from a job, the lottery, a slot machine, or any other type of gambling.
An example of a continuous reinforcement schedule could be a young child that is being potty

Along with this individual s probation restrictions, the individual must complete 1,000 hours of
community service (some time on the week day) in the time span of 10 months. The probation
officer has set a VI 25 (days) for each month. The probation officer checks back in with the
individual at a different time around the end of the month (slightly before or slightly after the 25
day mark). If the number of hours of community service the individual has increased at least 50
100 hours, then the individual s probationary curfew can be extended 30 minutes for that month.
This is an example of a variable interval reinforcement schedule because the probation officer has
set the average day to check in with the individual as the 25th, however, the officer can go check
in and review the individual s community service log slightly before or after the 25th. The
individual never knows exactly what day the officer will come on so they will try and engage in
as much community service hours as soon as the next cycle begins to make sure they can receive
the 30 minute extension to their probation curfew. The stimulus in this example is that the
individual wants to have a longer probation curfew to have time to visit friends and family, the
behavior is to do at least 50 hours of community service as quickly as possible, and the consequence
is that the

Analysis Of The New York Times By Nicholas D. Quot
The concept that marriage can occur, endure, and succeed without the factor of love seems to be
common in many other places in the world. Who Needs Love! In Japan, Many Couples Don t,
by Nicholas D. Kristof published in the New York Times in 1996 explores the aspects and success
of loveless marriage in Japan beginning with Yuri Uemura of Omiya, Japan. The article opens with
a small description of the setting of the interview and the blunt fact that there was never any
marriagebetween Yuri and her husband. But she follows this with the fact that they survived. Yuri
dives into the facts of never receiving neither affirmation from her husband nor affection. She
offers a sad comparison of how relationships between a male and a female animal seem better than
her own marriage. This example of a marriage is given to show how important familyis in Japan
regardless of the level of happiness. The example is followed by some simple statistics and facts
comparing marriage in Japan to the rest of the world. Japan s divorce rate is less than half the
divorce rate of the United States even though it is at a record high. It is shared that the traditional
family structure is crumbling in the US and Europe while Japan s is still going strong. Kristof also
supports the strength of the family structure by offering the evidence of a study that was published
by the Population Council declaring that the rate of two family traditional household is falling
significantly worldwide with one

Evaluating Friedman s Instrumentalism
Introduction
Since the 2008 financial crisis, economists have been blamed for their incapability to predict the
collapse of the financial system with economic models. It has been widely debated about the role
of economic models, in particular their underlying assumptions and their ability to predict the
upcoming events. Colander et al pointed out that unrealistic assumptions plays a main role in the
failure of economic models (Colander et al 2009: 7 10). Opponents would invariably point their
fingers towards Friedman s Methodology of Positive Economics ; where he proposed that the
validity of assumptions is totally irrelevant when evaluating economic models, only the usefulness
of prediction matters.
Nonetheless, when evaluating economic models, we should take into account the description,
explanation and understanding of the world. In this essay, by using the Ricardian model as an
example, I will illustrate that even if one only cares about the prediction, we should also address
the importance of assumptions, which would then lead us to explore the true purpose of science.
The Ricardian Model
The Ricardian trade model is a simple yet powerful theory that refutes common fallacies about the
causations of trade flows. It illustrates that, instead of absolute advantage, it is comparative
advantage that brings forth the gains from trade. Comparative advantage refers to the ability to
produce a product at a lower opportunity cost than another. This ability is the result of

Adoption Consequences
Adoption and its Consequences for an Adopted Child
Kristiane B. Fallarcuna
Adoption is a good option for parents who can t secure the future of their children and for people
who long to have children to take care as their own. It can be a saving ground for unwanted
children and for parents who can t afford to keep their children. There are lots of successful adoption
cases and that children with their adoptive parents had happy and loving relationship with one
another. However, there are possible consequences for the adopted child which include lack of
genetic and biological information, feeling of rejection and lowered self confidence and self esteem.
Most adopted children have totally loss contact with their biological parents so it is hard for them
to check some important biological and genetic information. They have no easy way of knowing
what kind of diseases or traits can be genetically transferred to them so they can prevent it earlier.
This consequence can highly affect the medical history of the adopted child which is very
important in improving the healthy lifestyle. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

1970s Literature
You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is to never get involved
in a land war in Asia. (The Princess Bride, 1973). This quote from the novel directly speaks to the
political arena that was in play in the 1970s. Three major political events occurred in the 1970s:
The Vietnam War, The Watergate Scandal, and The Cold War
. This paper explores the influence of
these events of the literature of the time. The Vietnam War spanned more than ten years, ending
in 1975. This contributed to the highly political decade of the 1970s. This war affected many
U.S. citizens, and there were many deaths. The U.S. deploys over 500,000 American troops to
Vietnam (The Vietnam War, 1962 1975). Another major political event of the 1970s was the
Watergate Scandal of 1972. The Watergate Scandal was the illegal cover up of a burglary that
resulted in the resignation of President Richard M. Nixon (Events, Volume 8: Superpower: 1959

The Core Values Of A Company
The core values of a company set the foundation of an organizational culture, which in turn provides
employees with a sense of direction and an overarching guideline when it comes to decision
making, workplace behavior and ethics. Given its unique function, it is not hard to see the
importance of having strong and effective core values in place. However, by simply coming up
with a written set of values is definitely not enough to achieve the desired effect; it also requires the
effective communication and continuous cooperation of the management. For instance, if the
management does not continuously emphasize and manifest these values in their words and
through their actions or if there are inconsistency in the values that the management promotes and
the decisions that it actually makes, then the employees could easily get confused amidst the
conflicting culture. As a consequence, employees may become inefficient and unproductive as
they would not know how to differentiate what should and should not be done. There is no
denying the fact that Apple has core values in place. In fact, these values were mentioned during
various occasions by Tim Cook and were published in many business articles. Some of which could
also be found in Apple s official website. However, judging by the complaints of Apple s employees,
it appears that the current management has failed to effectively communicate, assert, and instill
these core values into the minds of the employees. Furthermore, it can

PHIL 101 Introduction to Philosophy
Final Essay
Topic: Compare and contrast the concepts of determinism, compatibilism, and libertarianism, as
outlined in Chapter 4. What are the strengths and weaknesses of each of these positions? Which
one do you believe is the most likely to be correct? Why?
In the Philosophy, Determinism has many different categories. Actually according to the textbook,
the Determinism is the view that every event, including human actions, are brought about by
previous events in accordance with the natural laws that govern the world. Human freedom is an
illusion. Jewish philosopher Baruch Spinoza does not deny that people s wishes and desires will

Human factors are involved wildly in human behaviors and various social systems, including
social laws and religion doctrines. Just like what I mentioned previously, scientists believe that the
human life is pre determined and human s behavior is inevitable. They consider that if someone
has all the information of one person, he or she may get to know how he or she is going to
change in advance. But from the point of view throughout the history of human society people
often turn to emphasize personal responsibility. Law and legal penalties for criminals act based
entirely on the idea of individual free will . Most Jewish and Christian also believed that individuals
should be responsible for the crime and suspects should be punished. We can imagine a psychology
professor who believes determinism would say to a student: You have to concentrate to your study,
otherwise you will get nothing! You can see the contradiction of human behaviors from this typical
and ironic statement above, and notice that there exists a deviation between theoretical knowledge
and actual human behaviors.
At the same time, the Libertarians believe that people have free will , and there are no such
inevitable results of those behaviors that are controlled by free will . Libertarianism has different
meanings in different academic fields. From the general level, the libertarianism refers to people s
ability to decide whether or not to do something according to their

What Is The Fashion Of Fashion In The 1960s
60s Fashion in America
The 1960s were a time of big change across the United States of America. Fashion was one of the
most memorable (parts) of the 60s. The 1950s sound was still popular and the waist tight skirts
and clean, sharp look was still worn by many. The style of fashion was new and unfamiliar to the
people who grew up in the 1940s and 50s. One of the most surprising trends was the box dresses
that women wore. They were very short and showed much more skin than the parents of the
teenagers in that era, would have liked. They were used to much more conservative types of clothing
. Fashion evolved, along with the new generation who inspired that fashion. Hairstyles and clothing
changed, due to a new era of icons and state of minds.
Hairstyles in the 50s were much more traditional and looked very conservative. They replicated the
styles of the 1930s and 40s. They had many more curls than the hairstyles of the 60s. The women
wore buffontants and flipped hair. Bouffants had hair above the crown of the head, covering the
ears and women who wore this style usually had shoulder length hair. Another popular women s
style was the flipped hair Usually worn with bouffants, the flipped hairstyle was one where the ends
of the hair were flipped in toward the face. Both hair styles were used in ads for clothes and
products during the 60s, spreading the look across America with the help of icons. Flips and

The Classic Text Of Power And Interdependence
International politics is simply defined as the academic principle which deals with the practical
realities of a state s interaction with another state or several other states. This essay will outline how
the classic text of Power and interdependence has shaped and continues to shape how we think
about international politics. Power and interdependence, published and authored by Robert
Keohane and Joseph Nye in 1977, was widely regarded as an influential book within the study of
international politics. The authors wanted to challenge the fundamental assumptions of traditional
and structural realism which at the time, focused on military and economic capabilities to identify
state behaviour.

Summary Of The Rape Of Lucretia
In Livy s story the Rape of Lucretia, the writer illustrated prime examples on how gender is
represented in Roman society. The assumptions of both men and women roles within the Roman
Empire are defined and presented within this legend. The expectations of men, women, and honor
are identified to provide examples of the conventions about genderin Roman society. Men in the
legend were presented as being heavy drinkers and strong. On the other hand, women were
represented as being pure and weak in the eyes of men. The contrasting views of both men and
women help illustrate the assumptions about gender in Roman society defined in the story. In the
legend, men were shown to be heavy drinkers and vastly stronger compared to their female
counterpart.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lucretia was illustrated to be pure, faithful, and display honor to her husband, ...all impressed by
Lucretia s chaste honor (LVIII). On the other hand, Livy explained how weak and defenseless
women were during ancient Rome. At the same time, the author explained how men, such as
Sextus Tarquinius, could easily take advantage of women. Livy also expressed how honor was
vital for women to keep and maintain. The moment that Sextus viciously destroyed Lucretia s
honor by taking her chastity, illustrated how important honor was in the Roman empire. Lucretia
felt like she was in the wrong even though it was not her fault; however, the mindset that the
expectation of women should show honor and be faithful was extremely important in Roman
society. The overall assumption of women in Roman society to be pure, faithful, and display honor
was greatly exemplified in Livy s legend. The expectation for women to live up to their general
duties during this time was a huge focus in the Roman empire. Thus, Livy presented the
assumptions about women in Roman society to be weak compared to men, and should be faithful
and show honor towards her

Characters And Evil In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies
In the beginning of William Golding s novel Lord of the Flies , readers meet four young boys
from ages 11 13 who have been stranded on a deserted island with no adults after a flight from
home. Readers come to understand the relationship between Ralph, Jack, Simon and Piggy get
complicated and violent once all laws and rules have disappeared by the end of the novel, 2 boys
are dead and the have changed dramatically. In his Nobel Prize acceptance speech for the novel,
Golding stated that, ... men produce evil as bees produce honey. His statement is that Golding
believes that human nature is automatically evil; he is right.
Golding s view is that evil exists in all humans from birth; he is right. In the lord of the flies the
author shows this clearly. They re all dead, said Piggy, an this is an island. Nobody don t know
we re here. Your dad don t know, nobody don t know His lips quivered and the spectacles
dimmed with mist. we may stay here till we die . ( 14 )This passage says Piggy is doubting
about being rescue. When he says, they re all dead, he is referring to the people who were in the
airplane with them before they ended up in the island. When Golding writes that Piggy s lips
quivered, this shows us that piggy is afraid. This matters to the central idea of human nature
because there s fear in the boys.In the lord of the flies , the author reinforces this idea. If I blow
the conch and they don t come back; then we ve had it. We shan t keep the fire

Isg Steelton Case
What Would You Do?
Chapter 2
ISG Steelton International Steel Group, Steelton, Pennsylvania
As the day shift supervisor at the ISG Steelton steel plant, you summon the six college students
who are working for you this summer, doing whatever you need done (sweeping up, sandblasting
the inside of boilers that are down for maintenance, running errands, and so forth). You walk them
across the plant to a field where the company stores scrap metal. The area, about the size of a
football field, is stacked with organized piles of metal. You explain that everything they see has
just been sold. Metal prices, which have been depressed, have finally risen enough that the
company can earn a small profit by selling its scrap.
You point out that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But the purchasing manager who sold it says it must be shipped in 2 weeks. Without more
workers (there s a hiring freeze) and without forklifts, all of the metal has to be loaded by hand
by these six workers in 2 weeks. But how do you do that? What would motivate the students to
work much, much harder than they have all summer? They ve gotten used to a leisurely pace and
easy job assignments. Motivation might help, but motivation will only get so much done. After
all, short of illegal steroids, nothing is going to work once muscle fatigue kicks in from carrying
those 92 pound pieces of metal up a ramp all day long. What can you change about the way the
work is done to deal with the unavoidable physical fatigue?
If you were the supervisor in charge, what would you do?

College life is an exciting time for young adults coming out of high school. The students find
themselves with so many new experiences to face; many of these changes, from new found

It will soon be time for the next wave of fish to begin the transitional life of migrating schools. Any

Final Paper
Death and life threatening illnesses is not a subject that one likes to talk about. It is more
complex, when the subject of wills and end of life desires arise. In this paper, I will be discussing
ethical situations that arise when dealing with this specific problem.
I will be talking about the potential consequences that the deceased family must deal with when
a will has not either been formed or performed properly. Next, I will be looking at the differences
between palliative and recuperative care; I will also give my view on who should be included in
the decision to alter care from recuperative to palliative. My next topic will be deliberating the issue

If one fails to execute a living will, a person might opt not to establish a power of attorney. This
also leads to difficulty for one to control the kind of medical treatment to adapt. Whenever an estate

before distribution the property takes place. When the court has to take the decision of the
distribution of property it will only take into consideration the family members on the deceased.
Question #2 www.nationalsensusproject.org, says that palliative care stands for patient and family
focused care that optimizes the quality of life anticipating, treating suffering, preventing. Palliative
care means continues continuum of illness that includes addressing physical, social, and emotional,
spirituals and intellectual needs and facilitation of autonomy. We can say palliative care is used to
explain pain management when individuals are either healthy or when individuals are in their
process of dying. Palliative care leads to the easing of suffering in physical and mental health
without really curing it. Health resources and service administrations define recuperative care as a
short term medical care, and the type of management offered to people who

Golflogix Case Analysis
GolfLogix has just launched the xCaddie, a GPS based device that aids golfers in estimating the
distance to the next green. As things look up financially for the company with leases to golf
courses and increasing awareness, the company ponders whether it wants to explore the retail
channel. Through this case analysis, we explore the various paths before GolfLogix and
recommend a course of action.
Company Product
GolfLogix Inc., a three year old company with just six employees, has introduced an innovative
product to the conservative world of golf. The xCaddie aims to improve the golfer s game by
displaying the distance to the next hole. This information can then be used to select the appropriate

As we develop our marketing strategy below we also argue our case against launching a retail

Value Proposition
The value proposition for golf courses is:
Offer the GolfLogix system as a differentiating value added feature to your customers over your
competitors
Improve the pace of play on the course so more players can play within the same amount of time
Join the exclusive band of GolfLogix enabled courses
Product
GolfLogix will offer courses both the Distance Only and Complete System. This would make
these courses more attractive to a wide range of golfers from novices to pros. The Complete
System with kiosk and printer is however not feasible on an individual basis. The advantages of
owning a personal xCaddie include being able to play any course, even if the course doesnaВЂ?t
own xCaddies. However, this can only be achieved if every course is mapped. Whenever a
golfer plays an unmapped course where she cannot use her xCaddie, the overall value of the
xCaddie decreases. The cost of different customer service/value levels are shown in Exhibit 3. The
more value GolfLogix provides for the customer, the more we can charge for it. In the future, the
functionality of the xCaddie could be extended to being able to upload and download mappings and
course specific tips from the Internet to make it a complete golfing companion.

South Africa s New Secrecy Bill Putting Country s...
South Africa is recognised internationally as a country passionate about upholding its democracy.
Last year however, the National Assembly decided to pass a condemned Secrecy Bill, two days
prior to Freedom Day, despite citizen s disapprovals. Was the event a mere coincidence or is our
country s democracy at stake?
The Secrecy Bill, formally known as the Protection of State Information Act, was introduced to
replace the apartheid era legislation. It is supposedly an improved legislation which serves to
protect sensitive or classified state information against unnecessary disclosure and destruction. It
has been noted by the media and even President Jacob Zuma himself that the Bill has some grey
areas where national interest remains too vague a reason for keeping information classified.
Furthermore, the Secrecy Bill restricts the media s access to government information, offering hefty
jail sentences to those who leak the secrets withheld by government. Is that a procedure to protect
the state of corruption in our country, or is it to protect the State itself?
As far as I am concerned, the Secrecy Bill acts against our constitutional rights. The South African
Constitution states that: Everyone has the right of access to any information held by the state.
Along with this, the Bill acts against the right to freedom of speech, as the media can no longer
publish articles freely. This means that journalists will no longer be able to investigate issues of
fraud, theft and

How Does Rick Deckard Create Identity In The Blade Runner
The book Do Androids Dream of Sheep and the movie Blade Runner both focus on the
protagonist Rick Deckard who is assigned to hunt down Androids and retire them. Throughout the
book and movie, he is faced with issues such as questioning his own identity and that of others.
Although the movie adaption did change some of the characters and most of the plot, it still
managed to keep some things similar; most importantly the themes. One of those themes is the
difficulty of correctly assigning an identity to someone, as a person can never be certain of
another person s true self. This can be seen when the androids are given the Voigt Kampff test,
how the specials/chicken heads are classified, and even in Rick Deckard s identity crisis.... Show

At the beginning of the book, Deckard was confident about his profession and what identified him
as a human. For example, he knew he was human because of his desire of having a living animal.
After all, his neighbor Barbour even says that every one of us has an animal of some sort (9).
Almost every character in the book who turned out to be human had some type of animal even if
it was fake because it was one of the only ways other people could identify if they were human or
an android. Although this changed in Deckard when he encountered Luba. When he saw her
opera performance he wondered if his life was just a cycle were he killed machines that were
going to be reconstructed again (92). Later on, when she was killed by the mercilessness Phil
Resch, Deckard questioned why he felt empathy towards her. Resch advised him to sleep with the
androids to get rid of those emotions, but when Deckard did so it did not work. Even at the end
after killing all the androids and having a spiritual encounter with Mercer he is left confused about
what his true identity was. However in the movie Blade Runner it was not him who was going
through this crisis but it was Roy. This android wanted to expand his life because he wanted to be
similar to a human. In the beginning, he went as far as killing people, something that an android
would do without hesitation. Although at the end he

1: How do the IT investment strategies and focus of FedEx and its main competitor UPS differ?
Which Company has the better strategy? Why?
The chief information officer of FedEx, Rob Carter states that the IT investment strategies are
customer based technologies. FedEx focuses less on operational technology and more on revenue
generating, customer satisfaction, and strategic advantage technology (O’Brien 43). UPS
is a much larger company that focuses on operations and the bottom line. UPS is constantly playing
catch up with FedEx by mimicking their strategic advantage technology to stay in competition. This
means FedEx always has a head start or the upper hand in the competitive advantage.

Is this a good vision for FedEx? Why or why not? How vital is IT to this definition of FedEx S
business? Use examples from the case to illustrate your answer.
The idea that Carter believes FedEx is in the business of engineering time is a good business
vision for FedEx because the world and its technology is always changing. With technology comes
managing and engineering time, keeping up with the changes in the society we live in. This is a
good vision for FedEx because when society changes, FedEx acts upon it, communicates and keeps
moving forward. They keep up with society and technology changes by innovating new ideas to
remain competitive. FedEx believes in offering solutions that allow you to engineer time so things
can happen that weren’t able to happen in the past (Carter/O’Brien 44).
Information technology is very important to this definition of FedEx’s business.
Information technology is seen as a competitive advantage for FedEx. FedEx’s main and
biggest competitor is UPS, and in second is DHL. Both companies are continually trying to make
the challenges harder for FedEx and in particular CIO Rob Carter. UPS and FedEx have been at
battle on technology especially customer based technology. “We tend to focus slightly less
on operational technology. We focus a little more on revenue generating, customer satisfaction
generating, strategic advantage technology (Carter/O’Brien Pg. 43). Carter believes in

Women During The Sixteenth And Eighteenth Century, Men And...
In the sixteenth and seventeenth century, men and women had designated roles. Men were the
head of their households while women were given the domestic duties such as the taking care of
the home and raising the children. This type of social order was translated into society as well.
Men were the ones who held positions of power and made the rules that women were expected to
follow. Men justified their dominating attitude towards women by pointing towards certain
passages in the Bible. Biblical texts during this time period were interpreted quite literally and at
times out of context. But it was enough leverage for men to use against women, in order to keep
women in their proper designated positions. Women simply accepted this unfortunate... Show more

According to Merry E. Wiesner, the author of Women and Gender in Early Modern Europe Witch
hunting was thus not simply women hunting, but the tracking down of a certain type of woman
(Wiesner 277). Elizabeth was an old, lonely, easily aggravated, suspicious, odd, and unnecessarily
vocal woman. All those characteristics in addition to a few others were supposedly the
characteristics that a witch had. If a person was suspected or actually embodied having one or
more of these qualities, it was enough evidence for a person to be accused of witchcraft. As a result,
this would cause the alleged person to be brought to court. The innocent feared going to court
during this time even more so or equally than those who were actually guilty, because once brought
to court, claiming innocence fell onto deaf ears. In the eyes of the witnesses and the court, a witch
was deemed guilty until they were somehow proven to be innocent. People who were actually
considered completely innocent were infrequent outcomes. Sawyer was fully aware of this
unlawful trend, but as stated in Goodcole s pamphlet, she decided to do the almost impossible and
proue her innocency, she put her selfe to the triall of God and the Countrey (Goodcole). Elizabeth
did not cower from the accusations but rather she directly confronted them in front of condemning
witnesses and other personnel who were present in the courtroom. Sawyer

The Evolution Of Dance, The Italian Renaissance, And The...
The body says what words cannot (Martha Graham). This quote helps explain how the body can
move in ways to help explain cultures and events that have happened. The body can move in
ways to show emotion that people are sometimes unable to explain with words. Different styles of
dance have evolved dramatically over the years and can even be used in the modern world as a
profession.
Dance has been affected by many events including religious rituals that helped form the art of
dance, the Italian Renaissance, and the French Revolution. Dance was originally reserved for
religious rituals in ancient civilizations ( Dance 1). Dance was used in the religions: Judaism,
Christianity, and Islamic. In ancient Egypt, different cultures would use dance to perform for their
peers in ceremonies. Dance spread throughout Europe and soon became a common activity in
many European countries. Dance also played a part in Greek and Roman society. Dance was used
for religious purposes and was also demonstrated in ceremonies. Dancing commemorated the
changing of the seasons, life and death, social solidarity, and the connection between humanity and
the unseen powers that affected human existence ( Overview of Dance 2). Dance would also be
used in the Greek society to honor a god or an important individual. Ballet can be dated all the way
back to the Italian Renaissance. In the fifteenth century, ballet was demonstrated during the courts
of Italy. Ballet was not made to be performed in front of

  • 2. Advent Research Paper Advent is a season observed in many Western Christian churches as a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas. The term is a version of the Latin word meaning coming . Latin adventus is the translation of the Greek word parousia, commonly used to refer to the Second Coming of Christ. For Christians, the season of Advent anticipates the coming of Christ from three different perspectives. Since the time of Bernard of Clairvaux(d.1153) Christians have spoken of the three comings of Christ: in the flesh in Bethlehem, in our hearts daily, and in glory at the end of time. [1] The season offers the opportunity to share in the ancient longing for the coming of the Messiah, and to be alert ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first clear references to the Western Church to Advent occur in the Gelasian Sacramentary, which provides Advent Collects, Epistles, and Gospels for the five Sundays preceding Christmas and for the corresponding Wednesdays and Fridays.[14] While the Sunday readings relate to the first coming of Jesus Christ as savior as well as to his second coming as judge, traditions vary in the relative importance of penitence and expectation during the weeks in Advent. Liturgical colors[edit] Censing during solemn Advent vespers. See also: Liturgical colors The usual liturgical color in Western Christianity for Advent is either violet (or purple) or blue.[15] The violet or purple color is often used for hangings around the church, the vestments of the clergy, and often also the tabernacle. • 3. An Analysis Of John Vote By John Capote Capote Essay 2 Although Capote uses section two to display Perry s actual innocence, Capote s true aspirations are to display that a seventh person Holcomb has too died ; therefore, he contends that the repercussions of the murders actions are felt by all, and will permanently break and kill their spirits and morale even if the town itself appears untouched. The tomb of the unknown soldier sits in silence day in and day out, as if it never changes. It is always dressed in wreaths and sorrow. Like the tomb, rests a seventh indirectly identified death. Capote is identifying the seventh unknown death in the book, and Capote is engraving the name to the head stone HOLCOMB. To the naked eye it may seem as though Holcomb has never... Between these two quotes, it is obvious that the group of friends and neighbors are gathering together at the same place, around the same time of year, yet are together for very different reasons. The parallel of the two days in atmosphere allows Capote to draw emphasis on the different reason for being together. It truly goes to show that Capote is attempting to show the town has drastically changed and silently died in spirit. A town that once anticipated the prizes from their gun shots now dreaded the clean up of another s. As the friends approach the house, Capote implements connotations to again show the now dead spirit of Holcomb. First he describes Going out there we always had such welcome ( Capote 78). Welcome in a home can commonly be connotated with other words such as warmth, acceptance, friendly and joyous atmosphere. However Capote continues with, On the present occasion, a highway patrolman welcomed them (Capote 78). More often than not, a patrolman is an unfortunate encounter. Once again, with connotations of welcome and patrolman Capote illustrates that Holcomb is just not the same environment as it once was. Citizens suffered individually too. • 5. The T-34 Research Paper The tank was one of the deadliest weapons in World War 2. Over 331,000 tanks were produced during the war. Most of the countries fighting in the war had tanks, including the British, Americans, Germans, and the Soviets. All of these countries had tanks that outperformed their other tanks, and that outperformed the other countries tanks. One of these was the Soviet s T 34. The T 34 was created to replace the BT series of fast, lightweight tanks. The Soviet realized the BT s weakness in battle and requested its official replacement in 1937, two years before World War Two. The T 34 became the most produced tank in the war and is considered to be one of the best tanks in the war. Jason Belcourt, talking about the T 34, said In 1941 when Hitler launched Barbarossa, the tank was indisputably the best in the world. The T 34 was able to stop the German advancement into the Soviet Union and save the country. The T 34 had some flaws though. The sloping armor of the T 34 provided safety from the weak 40 mm guns of the Germans, but the armor made the quarters cramped and the working conditions poor. To go along with the small size of the tank, the technology was very outdated. To communicate with the other tanks, a flag system would have to be used. The aiming systems were also very outdated and couldn t compete ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. History Of The North American Free Trade Agreement Essay The NAFTA Controversy The purpose of this document is to explore the history of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the effects NAFTA has had on Canada, the United States of America (specifically American labor and job market) and Mexico. It will also delve into the current state of NAFTA, the advantages and disadvantages to American economy and what the future holds for this historic trade agreement. NAFTA has effected many parts of the world and not just the three countries who originally signed the agreement. It has caused several negative effects for many, especially citizens of the United States; but what evidence is there of this claim. Before jumping into the evidence for or against NAFTA, let s look at the history as this will bring some perspective to the event. The roots of NAFTA stretch back well before its signing in induction in 1994. Many believe that the true origin of the idea of having a free trade agreement with Northern, and Central America began with the signing of the Trade and Tariff Act in 1984 in the USA congress. The Trade and Tariff Act was important as it lent the President of the United States of America the ability to expedite the process of creating trade deals, leaving the USA Congress the opportunity to approve or disapprove the proposal. This idea was pushed by Ronald Reagan and passed. Reagan then began collaborating with the then Canadian Prime Minister, Brian Mulroney, who signed an agreement of free trade between ... • 7. Shintoism And The Problem Of Evil And Evil The national religion of Japan, Shinto, is definitely a unique religion in many ways. It is one of the few religions that someone cannot convert to. In other words, a person needs to be born into it and grow up with it. And unlike many religions such as Christianity, Buddhism, and Confucianism, Shinto has no known founder. With that said, Shintoalso has a unique view of the problem of evil and suffering. For some religions, like Christianity, it is black and white on what they believe about evil. For Shintoism, it is not that clear. Their main desire is to reach harmony, but they do not stress evil or sin or suffering as much as other religions do. Yoshida Kanetomo, a prominent Shinto priest during the 15th century, even bypassed the problem of evil and he took a more optimistic approach. This is a theme in the Shinto religion, even mentioning Shintoism as a happy religion. So how do they address the problem of evil? Shintoism addresses the problem of evil in that they strive to drive out evil in order to reach harmony and a state of purity. Shintoism believes they should drive evil out completely in their lives. They conceive good and evil in aesthetic terms. The curved spirit, called the Magutsubi, is around and within humans. This spirit is the cause of evil deeds, misfortunes, or disasters. There are evil deeds and thoughts because of the works of the curved spirit. Motohisa Yamakage said it like this, good or moral behavior is associated with balance of ... America s Moral Codes Of The United States Ever since the early 17th century, the Jews in Philadelphia have been striving to become an important part of the American society, while staying true to their roots. Although the Jews faced exile from their homelands of Portugal and Spain, they were able to build and sustain a strong Jewish community within Philadelphia and pave the way for future generations through extensive actions throughout the community. They built hundreds of Jewish schools, Community Centres, synagogues and established many congregations. They became strongly involved in the American society and paved the way for many of America s moral codes (Telushkin). There are currently 275, 850 Jewsin Philadelphia, making it one of the strongest Jewish communities in the United States (Levine). By the 15th century, there were many Jews living in Spain and Portugal. They were well employed and were positively involved with the Spanish government. However, their prosperity soon came to an end on July 30th, 1492, as the King of Spain ordered the Jews to leave the land, and the entire Jewish community, some 200,000 people, were expelled from Spain (Telushkin). The Jews split up almost equally, some travelling to Italy and the others travelled Mexico and Brazil by boat (Morais 7). Essay On The Antibacterial Effects Of Microorganisms The main for the purpose of this study was to find out about the tolerance of Listeria monocytogenes towards quaternary ammonium compounds (QAC). The antibacterial effects of disinfectants are crucial for the control of Listeria monocytogenes in food processing environments. Tolerance of L. monocytogenes to sub lethal levels of disinfectantsbased on QAC is conferred by the resistant determinants qacH and bcrABC. The QAC based disinfectants which are in common use in many food industries are found to have strains of qacH and bcrABC which are resistant to QAC. Thermal processing if milk and meat may occur but post processing contamination does take place (Tiffany, 2015). L. monocytogenes that occur in food may originate in soils from farms, in slaughtering facilities, in food processing plants and other equipment used in food manufacture. The elimination of this bacteria can be challenging as it forms very resistant biofilms (Oxaran et al., 2017). Bacterial biofilms are defined as surface associated bacterial communities forming micro colonies surrounded by a matrix of exo polymers. Biofilms confer to L. monocytogenes a greater resistance to antimicrobial agents and they allow microorganisms to resist to environmental changes and cleaning/disinfection treatments (Tiffany, 2015). L. monocytogenes possess an ability to establish itself in equipment or production environments and single strains of the microorganisms have been shown to reoccur in production environment over periods of years. The bacteria persist in environmental niches like cracks, inside equipment that are protected from cleaning and disinfection routines (MГёretrГё et al., 2017). THE MORAL PRINCIPLES OF PREMARTIAL SEX Abstract Over many years, the views of premarital sex have been becoming increasingly more tolerant. The whole reasoning behind why sex was created is lost in the minds of society and used for pleasure and own physical satisfaction. There is also another consequence for participating in casual sex such as disturbance in later marriage. Sexual scripts can be written prior to marriage, providing knowledge about their own abilities, leading to a stable marriage because they may be able to make more informed choices concerning marriage. It is also very likely for someone to misunderstand physical intimacy with emotional potential, leading to disruption in marriage and make worse marital choices (Kahn, London, 1991). How is Marriage Effected? In today s society, adolescents have a positive opinion about cohabitation before marriage. The view of marriage as an institution has faded and cohabitation has taken a new part of this culture (Martin, Specter, Martin, amp; Martin, 2003). The study seems to test an association between the variables of sleep and declarative memory, and the study attempts to make the casual claim that Sleep does not preferentially consolidate a specific kind of declarative memory, but consistently promotes overall declarative memory formation (SchГ¶nauer et al., 2014, para. 5). • 14. The Importance Of Cities In The Roman Empire The importance of cities during Roman rule was unparalleled. With ever expanding colonization, decentralization of government was invoked through the delegation of administrative functions to local elites. Tax collection, military command through instructions, and occasionally acting as an intermediary between competing local interests were a few roles carried out by these instrumental leaders. They were the Publicans, of the equites class. These cities were a way for rules to organize every citizen and also levy taxes to fund their expansion efforts, since most of the taxes went to the military funds. Benefits in the city outweighed the minimum space you had in suburban areas in the city of Rome there was a welfare system in place which was not available in smaller towns. Food was exponentially more expensive compared to housing, and grain subsidies were such an important institution that when Constantine moved the capital to Constantinople in the fourth century, he instituted a grain subsidy which fed 80,000 people.1 A substantial portion of scientific breakthroughs during these periods were deciphered in the city, where capable, well read inventors attempted to solve the grievances of living in a dense population, and figuring out more efficient means of transportation of goods. Also, these knowledgeable citizens generally resided in cities, not in suburban localities, because of the abundance of resources and learning centers. An example of a breakthrough would be the ... Perhaps the most famous of them all was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, who albeit being targeted by controversies by some historians, has been a hero for the Indian community. Gandhi was very different form the other leaders of that era, He was not just a political figure but also a humanitarian and spiritual leader, He was called Mahatma which means Great Soul .One with an uncanny ability to connect with a common man which is perhaps why his movements had such a good following. One other thing which distinguished Gandhi was the fact that his ideology was not limited to a single community or country. Health challenges particularly emerge in places whose environment and people s lifestyle have been affected by overpopulation consequences (Bull World Health Organ, 2010). It is obvious that risky conditions such as food and water shortages, polluted air and water, insufficient sanitation, slum areas, stressful routines and ease of disease spread are likely to take place in high density population regions rather than less crowded one. All of these situations directly affect people s health and well being. For instance, in 1999, it was estimated that around 700,000 Indians die each year from diarrhoea due to lack of adequate sanitation and safe water (DeNormandie and Sunita 2002). Another issue related to human population growth is social problems. The term can be defined as common conditions that spoil any part of the community such as ethnic frictions, industrial conflict, and so on. Evaluating Friedman s Instrumentalism Introduction Since the 2008 financial crisis, economists have been blamed for their incapability to predict the collapse of the financial system with economic models. It has been widely debated about the role of economic models, in particular their underlying assumptions and their ability to predict the upcoming events. Colander et al pointed out that unrealistic assumptions plays a main role in the failure of economic models (Colander et al 2009: 7 10). Opponents would invariably point their fingers towards Friedman s Methodology of Positive Economics ; where he proposed that the validity of assumptions is totally irrelevant when evaluating economic models, only the usefulness of prediction matters. Nonetheless, when evaluating economic models, we should take into account the description, explanation and understanding of the world. In this essay, by using the Ricardian model as an example, I will illustrate that even if one only cares about the prediction, we should also address the importance of assumptions, which would then lead us to explore the true purpose of science. The Ricardian Model The Ricardian trade model is a simple yet powerful theory that refutes common fallacies about the causations of trade flows. Given its unique function, it is not hard to see the importance of having strong and effective core values in place. However, by simply coming up with a written set of values is definitely not enough to achieve the desired effect; it also requires the effective communication and continuous cooperation of the management. For instance, if the management does not continuously emphasize and manifest these values in their words and through their actions or if there are inconsistency in the values that the management promotes and the decisions that it actually makes, then the employees could easily get confused amidst the conflicting culture. Fashion was one of the most memorable (parts) of the 60s. The 1950s sound was still popular and the waist tight skirts and clean, sharp look was still worn by many. The style of fashion was new and unfamiliar to the people who grew up in the 1940s and 50s. One of the most surprising trends was the box dresses that women wore. They were very short and showed much more skin than the parents of the teenagers in that era, would have liked. They were used to much more conservative types of clothing . Fashion evolved, along with the new generation who inspired that fashion. Hairstyles and clothing changed, due to a new era of icons and state of minds. Hairstyles in the 50s were much more traditional and looked very conservative. They replicated the styles of the 1930s and 40s. They had many more curls than the hairstyles of the 60s. The women wore buffontants and flipped hair. Bouffants had hair above the crown of the head, covering the ears and women who wore this style usually had shoulder length hair. Another popular women s style was the flipped hair Usually worn with bouffants, the flipped hairstyle was one where the ends of the hair were flipped in toward the face.
