How Did Gregor Mendel Cause Death
Gregor Johann Mendel
Born: 22 July 1822
Birthplace: Hynice, Czechia
Location of death Brno, Czechia
Cause of death: unspecified
Remains: Buried, Central Cemetery, Brno, Czechia Gregor s parents were farmers. His father s
name was Anton and his father was known as Rosine. He had two sister their names were
Veronica and Theresia. He was a brilliant student in grade school but it became harder to get
money to put him in school. When he couldn t get in a university he gave up and became a
Central European monk. Gregor while he was a monk tried to become a high school teacher and
failed the exam twice but was still allowed to work part time as a teacher. While tending the the
gardens in the monastery as a monk Mendel became very interested in the pea plants. Mendel
picked pea plants because they grew easily, reproduced in large numbered, and their reproduction
can be manipulated. They also had both female and male reproduction organs. He then began doing
scientific experiments on the pea plants. Even though Mendel was doing experiments with pea
plants he was still teaching part time as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That the inheritance of each trait is determined by units or factors that are passed on to descendents
unchanged called genes. That an individual inherits one such unit from each parent for each trait.
That a trait may not show up in an individual but can still be passed on to the next generation.
Independent assortment of genes and their corresponding traits was first observed by Gregor Mendel
in 1865 during his studies of genetics in pea plants. Two identical forms one has two yellows the
other has two greens. The principle of segregation and the principle of independent assortment.
Some biologists refer to Mendel s principles as laws . Most of the leading scientists in the 19th
century accepted this blending theory that he had

The Destruction Of Ahab s Struggle In Moby Dick
Today, every person has a reason for why they succeed or fail with their struggles. For instance,
in Moby Dick, Ahab s reason to carry on is to conquer and kill Moby Dick a legendary white
whale. The captain s mission to complete this seemingly impossible task drives him to become
insane; and his hatred toward Moby Dick pushes him onward. Herman Melville, the original writer
of this story, expresses Ahab s madness in the quote, Aye, aye! And I ll chase him round Good
Hope, and round the Horn, and round the Norway Maelstrom, and round perdition s flames before
I give him up. And this is what ye have shipped for, men! To chase that white whaleon both sides of

His last words were, Towards thee I roll, thou all destroying but unconquering whale; to the last I
grapple with thee; from hell s heart I stab at thee; for hate s sake, I spit my last breath at thee.
Sink all coffins and hearses to one common pool! And since neither can be mine, let me then tow
to pieces, while still chasing thee, though tied to thee, thou damned whale! Thus, I give up the
spear! (135.477). Ahab, with his death at hand, does not let the whale defeat him; only under his
terms would he surrender his spear. I will not let my whale conquer me as well. I continue to
prosper and subdue my seemingly never ending struggle to ameliorate my SAT score. All things
considered, my strive for acceptance into Arizona State University s Honors College, Barrett will
be accomplished by my continued motivation to enhance my SAT score. Even though, my whale is
not an actual sea creature, but I drive myself to do the impossible of heightening my score. Ahab,
even though driven mad met his match with his whale and I expect to meet mine, but I will defeat
it. I fill my mind with enhancements to further my test taking skills and when I score my
unbeatable score, I will be proud of the improvements and motivation that my whale enabled me to

Leadership Practices In One Division Of Saic
Effects of the leadership practices in one division of SAIC Science Application International
Corporation or better known as SAIC started in humble beginnings in San Diego, California.
SAIC grew to over 43,000 employees at locations across the U.S. and internationally. Today,
SAIC offers government services and information technology support. At one point SAIC
considered itself as one of the largest employee owned corporations conducting research and
engineering in the U.S. The SAIC Organization Robert Beyster, a physicist, founded SAIC in
1969. However, after many successful years, an aging Robert Beyster began to reduce his role
in the company. On October 17th, 2006, SAIC made a drastic change from being a private,
employee owned company to offering an IPO of common stock taking it public for the first time.
Having to meet the expectations of Wall Street investors instead of employees, many more large
changes were to follow. The Company we once knew, would soon no longer exist. In 2009, SAIC
moved its headquarters from San Diego, California to McLean, Virginia where it remains today....

SAIC split into two publicly traded companies. SAIC would be spun off and a corporate
company by the name of LEIDOS would be formed. LEIDOS would focus on IT work. The
reason for the split being formed was due to conflicts of interest as a single company bidding on
government contracts. The smaller of the two companies, SAIC, led by CEO Tony Moraco,

Human Trafficking Speech
No one shall be held in slavery or servitude , these are the words from the International Human
Bill of Rights that are supposed to protect us. However, that is not exactly the case. All around the
world there is illegal practices that involves a modern form of slavery, this form of slavery can not
be easily abolished, it often involves the practice of human trafficking. Human trafficking is the
illegal practice of transporting a person from one place to another, typically for a form of forced
labor, it goes against the words in the International Human Bill of Rights. There is human
trafficking all around the world, but the rate is higher in impoverished places such as Bangladesh,
Brazil and Haiti. Human trafficking occurs because of unstable political climates, families
economically disadvantaged, and being stuck in debt that is ever growing which one can not pay
with money. Unstable political climates are catalyst for human trafficking. The conditions of the
political system are tied to the government and the security in which the country has. In the article
Sex Trafficking of Women and Girls , it states it is easier to recruit and transport women, bribe
officials and forge passports and other travel documents (Deshpande, Neha A., and Nawal M. Nour).
If the government is not tight or well developed the chances of sneaking immigrants in is much
higher, this means it is easier to use them and force them into labor. Although human trafficking is

The Theme Of Individualism By Ralph Waldo Emerson
The theme of individualism is present in several of Ralph Waldo Emerson s works. It was also
his philosophical views on how to live life. He believed that human beings had remarkable
capabilities, more than they can possibly identify. With these capabilities a person should govern
themselves, not be governed by a society. Emerson also believed that nature played a large role in
how man should act and to follow nature s actions of growing without obstruction ( Nature ). This
is why he lead the Transcendentalismmovement in the nineteenth century, along with Theodore
Parker, Frederic Henry Hedge, Amos Bronson Alcott, Margaret Fuller and Henry David Thoreau
(Lewis). This philosophy was not only significant then, it was imperative throughout times in
history.
Emerson speaks of Americas ability to deviate from the norms set in Europe in one of his formal
speeches given in 1837 on August 31st in Cambridge. It was simply titled The American Scholar
(originally titled: An Oration Delivered before the Phi Beta Kappa Society, at Cambridge,
[Massachusetts,] August 31, 1837). He begins with speaking of how this gathering is distinctive
and is nothing like the ones of the past in Europe. He believes it is time to begin anew as a new
country of people. He believed that the society they were living in were only allowing them to
imitate with the majority and not allow them to be Man Thinking . (Emerson, The American
Scholar ). The only way to reflect on such a high level is to throw

Drug Trade In Colombia
In 1970 s, the Colombian poor farmers began planting Marijuana in purpose of an alternative to
legal crops to survive producing. In the 1970 s the Colombian organized crime had been
accelerated when criminal groups tried to cash in on the obsession for cocaine in the United States
by importing coca leaf from Bolivia and Peru into cocaine hydrochloride (HCL) then trafficking it
to the United States. (InSight Crime, n.d.). During the time of Pablo Escobar in 1980 s the first
major cocaine cartels emerged in Medellin cartel and Cali cartel in southwest. (PBS.org, n.d.).

To address the problem, the administration of President Clinton released a National Interest Waiver
that will prevent Colombia from attaining a failing grade. Despite having no chance of averting the
illegal drug trade, Colombia was continued to be given U.S aid in order to prevent increase of
trade (Sweeney, 1995). On the same year, the United States started to implement judgment
(PBS.org, n.d.) on counter narcotics of 29 of the biggest drug producing and drug trade countries.
Through that, it was identified that America is one of the biggest consumer of drugs and
Colombia has ranked third in the consumption per capita in the world. Sweeney mentioned that
this might lead to economic reforms and manipulate the region s weak political and judicial
institutions because every state in America has a severe drug crisis and the drug cartels are
influenced by Latin American. Congress should ask for an explanation on the policy implemented
because the United States continue to provide aid to stop illegal drug trade and support Colombia s
economic progress despite no actions initiated by their own government to address the problem

Questions On Private Practice
Dilemma:
In the season 2 premier of Private Practice, we are introduced to a couple that have a sick son who
was dying of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. They had a partial match donor to help save the son
life but unfortunately the partial match donor was found to have pneumonia. Because the doctors
thought the son had a donor they started to prepare him for the transplant by stripping his immune
system and unless he received the transplant within a week he would die. The parents had already
become pregnant with a genetic match to their son, so that they could use the baby s umbilical cord
blood in the future. The wife was 27 weeks pregnant when she and her husband request that Doctor
Addison induce her delivery to preform a C section this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If doctor Addison does this she can control how the C section will work and she can have different
teams ready, one team to help with the umbilical cord transplant for the son, another team ready to
care for the premature baby, and one team to help the mother and finish the C section. This would
allow for the son to receive the transplant, saving his life. But the premature baby must be
carefully cared since the chance of dying is high, she would need to be monitored and forced to
stay in the hospital for quite some time till fully development or approval from doctors.
Perspective number 2:
Another perspective for this case is that Doctor Addison does not preform the C section. The sick
son would be placed back on the transplant list with the hope that they could find another donor
before the son dies. But most likely the son would die since he only had a week left to live.
Although, this wouldn t place the unborn baby at risk for complications due to being born
premature. The women was 6 months pregnant and the doctors were not concern of any risk, only
increasing the likeness of the couple having a healthy baby being born.
Perspective number 3:
Another possible perspective is for the mother carrying the baby to endure her own delivery such
as by breaking her own water. This puts the mother at risk because she has to induce her own
delivery without the knowledge of the proper way to

Priming Is Manipulating A Faster Response For A Target Word
A multiplicity of stimuli is continuously assaulting our senses of which some are pertinent to the
current task and some which are irrelevant. Xxxxxx suggest because of this bombardment, goal
directed behaviour needs a great degree of choosiness when processing information. According to
Deutsch and Deutsch (1963) understanding the mechanisms used in the multifaceted processes of
selecting, analysing and processing incoming stimuli along with the limitations underlying these
processes it is not a fully understood area. (GULAN and VALERJEV 2010). Priming is
manipulating a faster response to a target word by the presentation of a semantically related word.

Friedrich, Henik Tzelgov, 1991. An amount of findings have provided supporting evidence that the
stimuli can be processed outside of conscious awareness (Merikle, Smilek Eastwood, 2001).
Studies by Jalal and Amir (2014) and Henik and Tzelgov (1991) have shown an insight into the
automatic processes believed to occur during priming that do not rely upon conscious perception.
Merikle et al 2001 suggest that regardless of whether objective or subjective measures of assessing
have been used there is evidence perception occurs without conscious awareness. They also argue
not only is perception without awareness possible but that qualitative differences in processing and
performances is also possible with or without awareness
Cognitive processing can be been known to be influenced by words of different valance (positive
/ negative / neutral). Sass, Krach, Sachs, Kircher (2012) investigated the influence valanced words
had on semantic priming with special interest in the neural correlates of indirect priming. Their
2012 study of sixteen participants examining the neural correlates found positive and neutral
information activated similar network areas within the brain however; negative stimuli inhibited
the spread of the activation. Sass et al (2012) study also found the processing of positive and
neutral types of information was less cognitively demanding than negatively affective information,

The Current Time Period Of The World
In the current time period of the world we inhabit we are in a social media age. Social media is
websites that enable us to communicate with one another over the internet. Some of these sites
are twitter and Facebook. This like anything else comes with pros and cons. An example of a pro
would be it is easier for us to find information with websites like google. A major con and what
we will be discussing today is a lack of personal communication with each other. It s quite the
contradiction that nowadays with social media it is easier to talk with people but it s harder to
have a real bond with them. We can meet people on sites like twitter and Facebook or message
boards but it isn t as intimate as having a face to face conversation with another human being.
This is making us a more lonely society. In a survey people in 1985 had a mean size of 2.94
personal confidants in 2004 the number was 2.08 (Marche 603). Also in 1985 10 percent of the
American people had no with whom to talk about important matters with and 15 percent said
they only had one good friend. By 2004 these numbers were up to 25 percent for nobody to talk
to and 20 percent for only one good friend (Marche 603). What these numbers indicate is that the
rise in technology has made us have less close personal relationships. In 2004 social media wasn t
as big as it is now so the numbers for this might be even larger in 2015. These problems seem to be
caused by an overreliance on these websites and

Theodore Roosevelt New Nationalism
On August 31, 1910, former President Theodore Roosevelt visited Osawatomie, Kansas to give
a speech and participate in a memorial dedication. (Hennessy, 1910). Roosevelt had declined to
run for re election to the presidency in 1908, deciding to exit politics and go on a yearlong
African safari (Ellis, 2001, p. 284). Frustrated with President Taft s actions, Roosevelt reentered
political life in 1910 (Mowry, 1939). In the Osawatomie address, Roosevelt introduced his idea
for a New Nationalism. Many of the speech s components became the bedrock of the Bull Moose
campaign used by the Progressive Party in the 1912 election (Spring, 1970). In the address,
Roosevelt compares the struggle for economic equality to the one for abolition of slavery... Show

Roosevelt felt President Taft was too conservative and pro business (Robinson, 2003). In
reaction to that, he met with Progressive leaders after returning from Africa and began plotting a
political comeback (Robinson, 2003). I will be analyzing the first 16 paragraphs of the New
Nationalism address. I chose to focus on this excerpt because Roosevelt strays from the topic of
income inequality in the rest and proposes 17 other reforms. He covers education, foreign policy,
and other political issues as he continues speaking. These things would not have gotten adequate
focus if I had attempted to analyze the entire address. Roosevelt addressed a crowd of 30,000
people in Osawatomie on August 31, 1910. (La Forte, 1966, p.187). He spoke outside after the
John Brown memorial dedication (Hennessy, 1910). When he arrived, the audience greeted him
with chants of Hello, Teddy! and enthusiastically cheered the speech at its conclusion (La Forte,
1996, p.196). Roosevelt stood on a kitchen table in front of the crowd and spoke for one and a
half hours (La Forte, 1996, p. 196). Kansas governor, Walter Stubbs, joined Roosevelt on the table
after the speech and declared, We have just heard one of the greatest pronouncements for human
welfare ever made. This is one of the big moments in the history of the United States! (La Forte,
1996, p. 197) Since there

How Does Creon Obey The Gods In Antigone
In Antigone, Sophocles demonstrates that one should obey the gods above the state. Using
characterization, Sophocles compares the loyalties of Antigone and Creon, providing the gods with
the chorus support to show the views of objective observers and emphasize the proper devotion.
Antigone, the headstrong heroine, proves that honoring the gods results in a more favorable
fate. Right from the start, Antigone makes her opinions clear: the gods wishes are more important
than mortal laws. When speaking to Creon, she admits to transgressing his laws saying, Yes, for it
was not Zeus who had published that edict; not such are the laws set among men by the Justice
who dwells with the gods below (102). Antigone is portrayed as a martyr due to ... Show more

These pathos filled words remind the audience that Antigone is just a young girl who was
trying to help her dead brother be redeemed by the gods. Her pathetic martyrdom automatically
puts her in the right in the reader s eye. Who would face emotional torment and execution for
something she doesn t feel is absolutely necessary?
Creon, the new ruler of Thebes, exemplifies the consequences of allegiance to the state,
ultimately falling from grace. Aristotle s Poetics define Creon as a tragic hero: Firstly, he is high
born. He has too much pride, and Zeus utterly abhors the boasts of a proud tongue (95). And of
course Creon s hamartia is his dedication to the state: whomsoever the city may appoint, that man
must be obeyed, in little things and great, in just things and unjust (107). Teiresias verifies
Antigone s actions and discredits Creon s by offering a prophetic glimpse of the view of the gods:
you have thrust [...] a living soul in the grave but keep in this world one who belongs to the gods
infernal, a corpse unburied, unhonored, all unhallowed. In such you have no part, nor have

Romulus And Remus Belief In Greek Mythology

they don t actually exist and they didn t found Rome. It tells that Romulus and Remus are
mythological and others think they are because what they tell about them you have to believe in
them as if they were a god.
Romulus and Remus almost did not survive infancy because Amulius ordered them to be thrown

Taco Bell Case Summary
Taco Bell was successful in running a media campaign that effectively dealt with the crisis
situation of being sued for misrepresenting the quality of beef they used. However, even though
the Beasley Allen law firm dropped the class action lawsuit, Taco Bell executives were furious
over the very allegation and attempt to tarnish their reputation (Forbes, 2011). In their resentment
towards the frivolous lawsuit, Taco Bell began another ad campaign. The purpose of this
campaign was to get Beasley Allen s law firm to make an apology (Forbes, 2011). Similar to their
initial campaign, Taco Bell took out ads in large papers such as the Wall Street Journal and New
York Times (Forbes, 2011). Using the same technique of a catchy punch line, the

the gun initiating a class action lawsuit (Forbes, 2011). Taking full advantage of media platforms,
the president of Taco Bell posted another video, which reiterates the information in the ads
(Forbes, 2011). Because Taco Bell made it very clear they used 88% beef, many people became
curious what exactly the other 12% was (Fountain, 2014). Taco Bell ensured the public through
their website that all the ingredients were safe and approved by the FDA (Fountain, 2014). They
also stated the ingredients that make up the remaining 12% may have strange names, but that they
are all common ingredients used in everyday foods purchased at the grocery store (Fountain,
2014). To help the public better understand these ingredients, Taco Bell also provides a brief
description in laymen terms as to what each one is (Fountain, 2014). To help emphasize this point
even more, a chemist from Duke University posted a blog explaining that although these ingredients
may be hard to pronounce, they are in fact actually food and that he himself would have no issue
eating them (Fountain, 2014). Taco Bell has used different media platforms to combat any potential
risks to their franchise and have done this quite well. There

Application Of A Temperature Controller
CHAPTER 2
LITERATURE REVIEW
Background
A temperature controller is an indispensable component when processing transmission in optical
fiber in order to acquire accurate results. The optical IC should be operated in a stable environment,
including temperature, fixed construction and no other external interference. Thus, providing a
constant temperature and steady working environment is priority task for the temperature controller.
The controller mentioned in this thesis is required to realize several functions: maintain the metal
which directly connected to the photonic IC chip at 25В°c, and keep this temperature for long
hours. Although this controller is designed for lab use, there are no any power shortage issues for
temperature controller, however due to sustainability, the power supply is expected to be natural
resources.
Further researching is needed on several components to develop the temperature controller and that
will be discussed in the next section. The correct cooler system, microcontroller and LCD are the
major components that need to be selected according to design constraints. The final project will be
low cost and auto tuning which is an automated process based on the temperature gap. This
controller needs to respond quickly in a short time when temperature is transmitting. Temperature

The Negative Impacts Of Violent Video Games
The negative impacts that are associated with violent gaming are a growing list. These many
negative effects could build up into a more serious situation, with all of the possible outcomes of
these side effects mixing together it could quite possibly take a turn for the worse. The use of
violent video games could cause players to participate in criminal violence, because of the increased
levels of aggressionand rage. NBC News reported of a gory incident in January of 2013, which
involved Nehemiah Griego and his murderous actions toward his parents and three of his
siblings in his home. The fifteen year old boy killed his family because he had been angry with
his mother in the days before the murders. When questioned about his family, the boy was
emotionless, but immediately after the investigators asked what his interests were, his face lit
up and he immediately began reminiscing about his favorite video games, Call of Duty: Modern
Warfare, and Grand Theft Auto (2013). Common sense media explains the game, Call of Duty:
Modern Warfare 3, with a vivid description; a bloody military shooting game with disturbing
cinematic moments (n.d.). Could Griego s avid gaming schedule, and love for the bloody first
person shooting game be slightly related to his urge to kill (2013b)? His decision to kill all the
occupants of his house did not solely result from one night of gaming, for it was an accumulation
of risk factors. It is likely that his love for gaming could have had an

Accounts of corruption were mainly prostitution, gambling, and narcotics ( Knapp Commission,

Apostle Paul Use Of The Armor Of God
Hermeneutical Application by George Mburu, KE100653
Apostle Paul use of the Armor of God
The author undertakes an application of biblical Hermeneutics in respect to the Apostle Paul s
address of the armor of God to the Ephesian Church. Actually, the author comes alive to the need of
proper Hermeneutic skills for right application of the biblical Corpus. Indeed, the use of necessary
tools has been encouraged for better application of the Scriptures. Towards the end of the essay, the
author makes tentative conclusions.
KEYWORDS: Bible, God, hermeneutics, exegesis, corpus, text, context, application, hope, warfare,
Greco Roman, kingdom, struggle, believer, victory
Introduction
The term Hermeneutics comes from a Greek word, that means to interpret hence it signifies
interpretation of literary text to the fullest measure. In addition, for that practice, sound principles
must be employed in the interpretation of the text. Therefore, one realizes that, when exegesis

different spheres of influence, and evil rulers in the dark world, win victory. However, as the
Apostle Paul, Craig and other authors argue, the challenge holds a spiritual warfare (cosmic the
unseen world). Accordingly, the reader and the interpreter should appreciate that the cosmic is real

Taught Financial Literacy
All Students Should be Taught Financial Literacy
In school, students are taught about Math, Language, Social Studies, History. We get taught things
that do not apply to the real world. We do not get taught how to save money for our futures and we
also do not get informed on how there are not many jobs open for our generation in the future
which is a problem. As you can see, if we do not learn about this topic at an early age, and it can
act as a potential liability to our future endeavours which results in an overall negative impact on
our lives.

Once you learn something at an earlier point in life, it is most likely to stay with you throughout
your whole life. When a baby is born and it hears its family speaking in a certain language, it
then starts to store those words in its brain and also starts to speak that language, that language
is most likely to stay with that kid unless that kid starts to speak 2 languages. And just like that,
when you are taught about financial literacy at a younger age, that information that is given to
you is most likely going to be stored in your brain for most of your life. Not being taught about
financial literacy can lead to having a heart attack, weight gain/loss problems, diabetes, cancer,
high blood pressure, substance abuse, etc. I know a few people that are confused and stressed
about their future jobs, their current jobs, managing bills, etc, and I always ask them what they
would want to do to fix and and their response is I wish I was taught about what financial
problems could lead to. , and so that is another great reason to why financial literacy classes
should be a subject. The pros in learning about financial literacy at a younger age can lead to
living a better quality of life, lesser health problems (I have listed them above), and minor financial
problems.
These are my reasons to why Financial Literacy classes should be taught. Not having much
information about Financial Literacy can lead to

Youth Athletics Essay
Youth Athletics
In Reading, Massachusetts, one parent was beaten to death by another parent after a scuffle at a
youth hockey game (Sachs). In Palin Beach, Florida, a father of a little league player was
sentenced to three years in prison after taking a gun and pointing it at a coach (Gehring). In Port St.
Lucie, Florida, a headline in the evening paper read, Spectator Bites off Man s Ear at Youth Baseball
Game (Pallerino). Why would parents act in such negative ways? They are too competitive at youth
athletic events.
During my five years refereeing youth sports, I have seen many examples of negative behavior.

I was even told by a parent that there is nothing I can do if I want to fix this problem, but I would

Let me share a few other personal experiences that motivate me. While I was refereeing a fifth
grade basketball tournament, a parent ran onto the floor after my officiating partner. While I was
watching an eighth grade girls game, the opposing team lost by one point. Directly after the
buzzer sounded, a whole section of parents left their seats and went onto the floor toward officials.
I heard everything from, I ll wait all night til you get out of that room, to Does anyone know what
this guy is driving? to I m gonna kill you.
Why are parents behaving this way? Professor Hypes believes that, Parents are living their lives
through their children. These parents may have not been successful during their childhood, and
they believe that they must do everything in their ability to have their child succeed. I have no
doubt that parents want the best for their children, but behaving this way does not show their
children appropriate respect. How can we expect children to portray sensible behavior when they
witness their parents doing worse? I often hear that we cannot allow children to use professional
athletes as role models

communication use and its potential dangers. John Humphrys says, It s pillaging our punctuation;
savaging our sentences; raping our vocabulary. I agree with him as text speak is slowly taking
over our Standard English, more than ever now as nearly everyone has a mobile device. One of
the major disadvantages about text speak is that since it is not standard, there are no single spelling
for some words and as different people have different texting styles, one might misunderstand the
message and feel offended due to this misinterpretation. In addition to this, when people write text
messages in text speak, they often lose depth and meaning, sadly people often forget how to write
in Standard English using correct, standard spelling and grammar. Also, more and more people are
using their mobile phones all the time; this could possibly lead to anxiety as they are constantly
checking their phones for any new texts/notifications etc. Texting and typing too much can lead to
repetitive stress injury which isn t something that young people should have. Likewise, some

The Lexus And The Olive Tree By Thomas L. Friedman
The world we live in today has witnessed a variety of changes, improvements and important
events overtime. Yet, the most significant incident for many and especially for business related
people is Globalisation. It is a term that is used to describe the exchange of knowledge, services,
trade, information, cultures and capital between people, governments and organisations of
different societies. According to The Economist (2013), economic historians opinions tend to
differ when it comes to the history of Globalisation or when did it start. However, they all agree
that it is a process that has been going on for a long period of time. People have been trading and
exchanging goods and knowledge in lands at great distances for ages. It is a consequence of the
movement of people from a continent to another. Historians also believe that it is related to the
base of trade and world commerce that was built and established centuries ago. Nonetheless,
globalisation gained the attention of developed and under developing countries at the end of the
20th century. It was by the cease of the cold war and the innovation of the Internet as Thomas L.
Friedman has mentioned in one of his books on Globalisation called The Lexus and the Olive
Tree. The technological advancement that we are observing nowadays has made the world a
smaller place. It has brought cultures and people closer together since connecting with individuals
from all over the globe is much simpler compared to the past.

Why I Believe It Should Be Mandatory
Many schools regard art with the idea that it s just a bunch of colors mixed together; although I
have found that art is not this simple a concept. I have problems with memorizing complicated
and or important pieces of information; although when I learn through creating something, (for
example, creating a picture having to do with moles, in order to learn about the chemistry unit
moles) I m able to clearly picture and understand newly introduced concepts. This is why I
believe it should be mandatory to require all students to create art in introduction to a new
concept. Doing this would not only open up people s minds to art s influences, but it would also
have a positive effect on the student s mental process as well. Studies show that arts integration
goes beyond including art projects in class; it is a teaching strategy that seamlessly merges arts
standards with core curricula to build connections and provide engaging context ( Nobori,
Mariko; How the arts unlock the door to learning). Many other people have written about how
the brain copes with learning through art, such as Mariko Norbori, a writer for and or creator of
the website Edutopia. Norbori was able to visit Wiley H. Bates Middle School, in Annapolis,

broader areas then WLANS and includes such things as cellular networks, cellular digital packet

rely on the RF spectrum as there communication medium. The security measure for wireless
users is strict, even though it can be accessed by walking near a building. Wireless signals are
easy too pickup especially with a cellular device but it is usually password but still can access

frequency consisting of radio cells, each served by a fixed transmitter, and for both wireless and
mobile networks, they have the advantage of mobility, flexibility, ease of installation, and low cost.
But some drawbacks for both systems include Limited Throughput, Limited Range, in building

An Environmental Assessment ( Ea ) For Maryland Gas ...
QUESTION PRESENTED Did FERC s issuance of an Environmental Assessment (EA) and
corresponding Finding of no Significant Impact (FONSI) for Maryland Gas 400 Line pipeline
project violate NEPA? Should the Sierra Club sue FERC over this issue? SHORT ANSWER
Yes. FERC s EA violated NEPA s requirement to consider the cumulative and indirect impacts of a
proposed project. While FERC did consider some indirect impacts of the 400 Line project, FERC
failed to analyze the 400 Line in conjunction with two connected pipeline projects: the 500 Line
and the 600 Line. FERC s fragmented analysis violates NEPA s requirement that environmental
review consider interdependent parts of a larger action (40 C.F.R. В§ 1508.25a). Other potential
objections to FERC s EA, including the project s effects on endangered species and FERC s
failure to analyze certain alternative arrangements, have a smaller and less certain likelihood of
legal success. FERC provided a reasoned explanation for most of their choices, and will thus
receive generous deference from any reviewing court on those issues. FERC, though, failed to
mention either of the two related pipeline projects in the EA, so the Sierra Club will have a
strong case that FERC did not meet the requirement, cited in Robertson v. Methow Valley
Citizens Council, 490 U.S. 332 (1989), to take a hard look at the environmental consequences of
the 400 Line pipeline. FACTS See prompt. DISCUSSION Does a categorical exclusion (CATEX)

manufactured electronics for over a decade. Semicontronics has a solid reputation for meeting
customer demands for quality products on time and on budget. The majority of Semicontronics
customers are international, mid market manufacturing companies that produce generic electronics
such as cell phones, digital media players and game consoles. Retail stores in foreign countries
purchase the generic products and rebrand them for sale.

If Semicontronics can maintain its track record for supplying cost efficient, quality products on
target, it could open an entire new customer market for expansion. While negotiating the supplier
contract, Semicontronics realizes the memory in its current computer chips will have to be
significantly increased to support the technical capabilities of Phoneson s electronics. Its current
manufacturing plant in Brazil is not equipped to meet these new demands, and an upgrade at this
stage in a new customer endeavor is not economically feasible for Semicontronics. Semicontronics
realizes it must find a quality subcontractor with the capabilities to manufacture the Phoneson
computer chips, including the enhanced memory requirements.
Cash in your chips... After careful market research and consideration of options, Semicontronics
decides to subcontract the computer chip manufacturing to Singatron, a relatively new electronics
manufacturer in Singapore. Singapore has been a hotbed for electronics manufacturing, and
Singatron was created by venture capitalist hoping to get a foothold in Singapore s electronics
market, specifically, in the next generation of computer chips. Although Singatron markets itself as
a top quality manufacturer, its lack of experience is proving to be a major obstacle to it winning
contracts. The subcontracting offer from Semicontronics has the potential to be mutually beneficial
for both parties, because

Utopian Urbanism That Forms Utopic Degeneration
From recent years, utopian urbanism connects with the so called crisis of modernist urbanism
that forms utopic degeneration. Utopia has developed to mean a community with a visionary
system of political and societal perfection, where cities that function to improve the daily lives
of its citizens; an ideal society, However these concepts are more often than not depicted as an
impossible dream, yet too bold, too radical to ever exist in real life. Some utopian visions are
focused on new technology, whereas others are on intact landscapes. In other occasions, some are
based on new social orders, but all were combined under a radical avant garde and progressive
architecture. It is this, their new and bold concepts that drive the imagination of architects and town
planners. Although rarely realized in full, principles from some utopian visions have been adopted
in part and have had significant influence on existing cities such as New York, Chandigarh and
Paris. They are a catalyst for generating ideas and new forms of thinking that leads to, for better or
for worse the many innovations in 21st century urban planning. Since utopian thinking can produce
a vision of the future that is achievable, what is the connection between having a vision of the
future, whether achievable or not, and utopian thinking?
The concept of utopia, derived from Thomas Mores, in his famous text in 1516 where he refers a
place as to both somewhere good and to nowhere. The connections between utopian

Dealing With Repeat, Criminal Offenders, And The Justice...
Dealing with repeat, criminal offenders, has become a hot topic issue in the corrections
community, as well as the justice system as a whole. Society demands to be protected from the
criminal element, and rightly so, but how do we identify the career criminals, and keep them from
harming others? Even though a small number of career criminals were responsible for the majority
of the crimes being committed in the country, it was not until the mid 1980s that selective
incapacitation began to be used (Mays Winfree, 2009). One of the assumptions, concerning career
criminals, is that here is no way to reform them. These offenders will continually commit criminal
acts as long as they are not incarcerated. To keep these career criminals locked away, many states
began passing laws to identify, and incarcerate them for mandatory lengths of time. By the mid
1980s, and the early 1990s, states began passing habitual offenders statutes, which in effect,
identified repeat offenders in the justice system, and sentencing them to long, mandatory prison
sentences, up to, and including life in prison without parole (Mays Winfree, 2009). These statutes
are known as the three strikes laws. The meaning behind this is that if an offender, who has been
convicted three times for criminal offenses, is incapable of reforming, and therefore should be
incarcerated, and kept away from the rest of society. In principle, this may sound like a great idea,
and a great way to keep society safe,

Dualism Fight Club
The Battle for the Mind Everyone has a split personality of some degree, and no work of
literature demonstrates this more than Chuck Palahniuk s 1996 novel Fight Club. The story
features an unnamed narrator who works at an automobile recall company and suffers from
insomnia stemming from his grueling responsibilities. Later, he meets a man named Tyler Durden
on the beach, and the two begin a fight club. Ultimately, their ensuing adventure reveals that Tyler
is actually the narrator s adverse split personality. The book also represents some of the ideas in
Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung s 1964 book Man and His Symbols, such as the role of dreams and
archetypes. Both the narrator of Fight Club and Tyler Durden symbolize the concepts of split...

The shadow adds to his dissociation and leads to his impulsive behavior. For example, Tyler
begins a crime wave called Project Mayhem, in which the members of the club had to bring Tyler
twelve driver s licenses to prove [they] each made twelve human sacrifices (151). Later, the
narrator robs convenience store clerk Raymond K. Hessel at gunpoint, but later allows him to
escape physically unharmed, thus failing to complete his assignment (151 155). Nevertheless,
after this event, the narrator realizes he is literally becoming Tyler (155). This robbery is
completely out of character for the mild mannered narrator and increasingly associates him with
his dissociative state and prevents him from maintaining his individuality. Other characters in the
novel would normally blame the narrator s disturbing conduct on Tyler, but the narrator only has
himself to blame for his actions. Once again, the narrator fully recognizes his issues and his
sudden shift in behavior as the negative facet of his split personality. Surprisingly, this ties back to
his past actions of attending support groups for people with cancer when he only has insomnia
(17). Outwardly, people may view this as hypocrisy, but Carl Jung writes, When an individual
makes an attempt to see his shadow, he becomes aware of (and often ashamed of) those qualities
and impulses he denies in himself but can

Adolescenes Fitting In or Standing Out
Is adolescence really about fitting in or not standing out? Do you have any responsibility to those
students who don t fit in? A major part of adolescence is whether you fit it or not. This major part
decides the majority of your friends and your understandings/feelings. It s not always a bad thing
to not fit in. You don t really have a responsibility to those who do not fit in. Sometimes, they
choose not to fit in. By all means, try to include them. Try not to make them feel like they don t
belong, but this doesn t always work. In the article Childhood BullyingCan Leave Lifelong Scars an
assistant clinical professor in the department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, William
Copeland, at Duke University in Durham, N.C. stated, If we could set up a culture in schools
where this isn t allowed to happen, then, I think there are a lot of these problems we can avoid
(Reinberg, 1). He s right the problems would be avoided, but it s impossible to completely eliminate
the bullying that makes someone feel like an outsider. Sometimes, bullying doesn t have to be
presented for someone to feel like this. At times, it s the music they enjoy or the style that they like
that causes the constant antagonization. Just being different could cause this feelingof not belonging.
Often times, people don t like something different so they will attack it. This attack could be
physical, but most times is emotional. There s always going to be that difference that someone may

The proliferation of marketing and advertising, coupled with the onslaught of millions of media
channels in today s world, has given cause for consumers to tune out and effectively avoid a great
deal of traditional supplier driven messaging. The creation of technologies such as PVRs, satellite
radio and Internet ad blocking software are driving a fundamental shift in the way the public
consumes media and the advertising often tied to it. Television ads, radio spots, online ads and
even emails are facing increasing competition for effectively capturing the viewer s attention and
provide positive ROI for the marketer. This competition, coupled with the rising cost of media
buys, has caused marketers to search for an alternative means to reach the customer. Viral marketing
is an attractive solution because it utilizes the free endorsement of the individual rather than
purchase of mass media to spread the word. Because the distribution model is free, viral can

College in The Modern Age
Throughout the first unit we have explored the reasons as to why college may not be the best fit
for some. I believe that, like a majority of children, I was raised on the basis that a college degree
was needed to be successful. Many may think of higher education as a giant Ponzi scheme, where
students are lured into the promise of receiving high paying jobs due to the fact they attended
University. Today I realize that a college degree isn t a guarantee that you ll be successful rather it
is a way to gain the edge against peers. In this paper, I am going to further evaluate why college

I believe that we need someone to step in and provide the training that is required to high school
counselors on other options besides college. Fortunately, enough I attended a high school where
the counselors were trained on giving students other options besides college. A close friend who
knew college wasn t the right option for him was given information about different apprenticeships
he could apply for after college. He is currently a welder and thinks that he has made one of the
greatest decisions of his life.
Moreover, While I was in high school preparing to apply for college, I would often see some of
my fellow peers struggling to figure out how they would fit the bill for University. As I first began
to apply to the big name universities I was noticing the very steep prices, with little financial aid

Rowe stated that There is a trillion dollars in debt on the student loan side. That is over five
hundred times the rate of inflation it beats healthcare by over two hundred and fifty trillion dollars.
I think that student loans are single handedly the biggest opposition to many students attending

Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold... Johnny is telling Ponyboy to stay innocent. This is important to

Ponyboy is good and needs to stay that way. The book and movie have many similarities and
differences. There are two recurring themes in them as well. In the book and movie The Outsiders
there are many similarities. In both the movie and the book there is a poem Nothing gold can stay

One of these themes is stay gold or otherwise stay young and innocent. When you re a kid

Ponyboy likes sunsets, just like a young innocent kid, it s gold, it s good. We couldn t watch the
sunsets, since the back faced east, but I loved to look at the colors of the fields and the soft
shadings of the horizon. This is gold because just like in the quote before they look at the sunset

friends. He beating him up, and was the gang s pet, everyone s kid brother. His father was always
beating him up, and his mother ignored him... This shows that the gang was there for him because
his parents weren t, that they were his family for him, that they cared about him and that they

All The President s Men written by Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein set at the break in of the

Schuster tells the story of the Watergate scandal. It all started with the break in at the Democratic

reporters worked together and connected the dots to uncover a scandal that reached the highest
government officials.
On June 17, 1972, a reporter name Woodward who worked for the Washington Post was asked to
cover a story. There had been a break in at the Watergate hotel. When Woodward got to the
newsroom, he found that this was not an ordinary break in, and he would not be the only reporter
reporting on this break in. The burglars had broken into the headquarters of the Democratic national
committee in the Watergate office apartment hotel building. Bernstein the other reporter had the
same assignment as Woodward. The two reporters had no pleasure for each other s company.

The economic boom also involved the Civil Rights Movement and the Cold War. According to

United States Involvement In The Vietnam War
In the beginning, the United States always pushed forth the idea they were becoming involved in
the war in Vietnam in order to send out aid to France, who was an ally of theirs. After the United
Nations began setting up a plan to help France, the United States suggested splitting up the
Communist and Democratic portions of Vietnam, with the communists having control over the
North, while the Kennedy administration continued to send military aid to the Southern portions of
Vietnam.
In the end, the United States main objective in becoming involved in the Vietnam War was to
prevent the spread of communism in the region. After the Gulf of Tonkin incident, which occurred
when North Vietnamese patrol boats fired on an American ship that they had discovered conducting
a spy mission off the coast of North Vietnam, current United States President Johnson used the
incident to eventually get authority from Congress to send more US troops into Vietnam. Slowly
over time, the anti war sentiment against the Vietnam War continued to grow amongst the

Interpretation of Survey Results
INTERPRETATION OF SURVEY RESULTS As part of the requirements in order to complete
this paper, I took three surveys to determine my stand on change itself. I ve known that change is
the only constant thing in life. People change, situations change, and even nature changes. We
have to be prepared for the changes to come around us or we will not be able to make it. In fact,
science itself tells us that those who can adapt most to change will those who survive. In the
survey entitled Are You Tolerant of Change? , I was able to score 66. This score falls on the
moderate level of tolerance for change. But, looking at the number, it s pretty closer to lower
tolerance compared to high level of tolerance. The questions in these survey mostly pertained to
my reaction in work changes. I might say that the result is quite spot on. Although I am quite
moderately tolerant to change, I feel quite uncertain, especially with work changes because I
know for a fact that not all the time, things end up positively for us employees. With all the
economic uncertainties today, you quite never know when you re going to be laid off and that s
quite scary. Still, the results show that I can at least tolerate change and I hope that s enough to get
me through. For the survey entitled An Assessment of Low Tolerance for Change , I scored 22 and
36 for self efficacy and tolerance for risk, respectively. From the interpretation, both scores lie on
the middle grounds. This means that I am moderately

Unfavorable Budget Variances
The plastic and cedar direct materials both had unfavorable flexible budget variances. It is
unfavorable because they under budgeted the cost of the direct materials they were going to
purchase. This could have been caused by a sudden increase in the cost of buying the materials,
or they switched suppliers and had to pay more. The cedar also had an unfavorable price and
efficiency variance, while the plastic had an unfavorable efficiency variance. In order to
improve this, they need to try to stay consistent with their suppliers so that there is less of a
variance. They also need to watch market trends more to see whether people are wanting to buy
bird houses, because if they are, then they should budget a higher number of units sold, or vice

quality bird houses that needed to be rebuilt, which would have made them throw the old one out.
Along with this, the efficiency variance was also unfavorable. This proves that the workers are not

process, the managers should talk with the employees about needing to speed up the process of

His father s name was Anton and his father was known as Rosine. He had two sister their names were Veronica and Theresia. Gregor while he was a monk tried to become a high school teacher and failed the exam twice but was still allowed to work part time as a teacher. While tending the the gardens in the monastery as a monk Mendel became very interested in the pea plants. • 3. The Destruction Of Ahab s Struggle In Moby Dick Today, every person has a reason for why they succeed or fail with their struggles. For instance, in Moby Dick, Ahab s reason to carry on is to conquer and kill Moby Dick a legendary white whale. The captain s mission to complete this seemingly impossible task drives him to become insane; and his hatred toward Moby Dick pushes him onward. Herman Melville, the original writer of this story, expresses Ahab s madness in the quote, Aye, aye! And I ll chase him round Good Hope, and round the Horn, and round the Norway Maelstrom, and round perdition s flames before I give him up. And this is what ye have shipped for, men! To chase that white whaleon both sides of land, and over all sides of earth, till he spouts black blood and rolls fin out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His last words were, Towards thee I roll, thou all destroying but unconquering whale; to the last I grapple with thee; from hell s heart I stab at thee; for hate s sake, I spit my last breath at thee. Sink all coffins and hearses to one common pool! And since neither can be mine, let me then tow to pieces, while still chasing thee, though tied to thee, thou damned whale! Thus, I give up the spear! (135.477). Ahab, with his death at hand, does not let the whale defeat him; only under his terms would he surrender his spear. I will not let my whale conquer me as well. I continue to prosper and subdue my seemingly never ending struggle to ameliorate my SAT score. All things considered, my strive for acceptance into Arizona State University s Honors College, Barrett will be accomplished by my continued motivation to enhance my SAT score. Even though, my whale is not an actual sea creature, but I drive myself to do the impossible of heightening my score. Ahab, even though driven mad met his match with his whale and I expect to meet mine, but I will defeat it. I fill my mind with enhancements to further my test taking skills and when I score my unbeatable score, I will be proud of the improvements and motivation that my whale enabled me to ... However, that is not exactly the case. All around the world there is illegal practices that involves a modern form of slavery, this form of slavery can not be easily abolished, it often involves the practice of human trafficking. Human trafficking is the illegal practice of transporting a person from one place to another, typically for a form of forced labor, it goes against the words in the International Human Bill of Rights. There is human trafficking all around the world, but the rate is higher in impoverished places such as Bangladesh, Brazil and Haiti. Human trafficking occurs because of unstable political climates, families economically disadvantaged, and being stuck in debt that is ever growing which one can not pay with money. Unstable political climates are catalyst for human trafficking. The conditions of the political system are tied to the government and the security in which the country has. In the article Sex Trafficking of Women and Girls , it states it is easier to recruit and transport women, bribe officials and forge passports and other travel documents (Deshpande, Neha A., and Nawal M. • 7. The Theme Of Individualism By Ralph Waldo Emerson The theme of individualism is present in several of Ralph Waldo Emerson s works. It was also his philosophical views on how to live life. He believed that human beings had remarkable capabilities, more than they can possibly identify. With these capabilities a person should govern themselves, not be governed by a society. Emerson also believed that nature played a large role in how man should act and to follow nature s actions of growing without obstruction ( Nature ). This is why he lead the Transcendentalismmovement in the nineteenth century, along with Theodore Parker, Frederic Henry Hedge, Amos Bronson Alcott, Margaret Fuller and Henry David Thoreau (Lewis). This philosophy was not only significant then, it was imperative throughout times in history. Emerson speaks of Americas ability to deviate from the norms set in Europe in one of his formal speeches given in 1837 on August 31st in Cambridge. It was simply titled The American Scholar (originally titled: An Oration Delivered before the Phi Beta Kappa Society, at Cambridge, [Massachusetts,] August 31, 1837). He begins with speaking of how this gathering is distinctive and is nothing like the ones of the past in Europe. He believes it is time to begin anew as a new country of people. He believed that the society they were living in were only allowing them to imitate with the majority and not allow them to be Man Thinking . (Emerson, The American Scholar ). In the 1970 s the Colombian organized crime had been accelerated when criminal groups tried to cash in on the obsession for cocaine in the United States by importing coca leaf from Bolivia and Peru into cocaine hydrochloride (HCL) then trafficking it to the United States. (InSight Crime, n.d.). During the time of Pablo Escobar in 1980 s the first major cocaine cartels emerged in Medellin cartel and Cali cartel in southwest. (PBS.org, n.d.). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To address the problem, the administration of President Clinton released a National Interest Waiver that will prevent Colombia from attaining a failing grade. Despite having no chance of averting the illegal drug trade, Colombia was continued to be given U.S aid in order to prevent increase of trade (Sweeney, 1995). On the same year, the United States started to implement judgment (PBS.org, n.d.) on counter narcotics of 29 of the biggest drug producing and drug trade countries. Through that, it was identified that America is one of the biggest consumer of drugs and Colombia has ranked third in the consumption per capita in the world. Sweeney mentioned that this might lead to economic reforms and manipulate the region s weak political and judicial institutions because every state in America has a severe drug crisis and the drug cartels are influenced by Latin American. Congress should ask for an explanation on the policy implemented because the United States continue to provide aid to stop illegal drug trade and support Colombia s economic progress despite no actions initiated by their own government to address the problem (Sweeney, ... They had a partial match donor to help save the son life but unfortunately the partial match donor was found to have pneumonia. Because the doctors thought the son had a donor they started to prepare him for the transplant by stripping his immune system and unless he received the transplant within a week he would die. The parents had already become pregnant with a genetic match to their son, so that they could use the baby s umbilical cord blood in the future. If doctor Addison does this she can control how the C section will work and she can have different teams ready, one team to help with the umbilical cord transplant for the son, another team ready to care for the premature baby, and one team to help the mother and finish the C section. This would allow for the son to receive the transplant, saving his life. But the premature baby must be carefully cared since the chance of dying is high, she would need to be monitored and forced to stay in the hospital for quite some time till fully development or approval from doctors. Perspective number 2: Another perspective for this case is that Doctor Addison does not preform the C section. The sick son would be placed back on the transplant list with the hope that they could find another donor before the son dies. But most likely the son would die since he only had a week left to live. Although, this wouldn t place the unborn baby at risk for complications due to being born premature. The women was 6 months pregnant and the doctors were not concern of any risk, only increasing the likeness of the couple having a healthy baby being born. Perspective number 3: Another possible perspective is for the mother carrying the baby to endure her own delivery such as by breaking her own water. This puts the mother at risk because she has to induce her own delivery without the knowledge of the proper way to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Studies by Jalal and Amir (2014) and Henik and Tzelgov (1991) have shown an insight into the automatic processes believed to occur during priming that do not rely upon conscious perception. Merikle et al 2001 suggest that regardless of whether objective or subjective measures of assessing have been used there is evidence perception occurs without conscious awareness. They also argue not only is perception without awareness possible but that qualitative differences in processing and performances is also possible with or without awareness Cognitive processing can be been known to be influenced by words of different valance (positive / negative / neutral). Sass, Krach, Sachs, Kircher (2012) investigated the influence valanced words had on semantic priming with special interest in the neural correlates of indirect priming. Their 2012 study of sixteen participants examining the neural correlates found positive and neutral information activated similar network areas within the brain however; negative stimuli inhibited the spread of the activation. • 11. The Current Time Period Of The World In the current time period of the world we inhabit we are in a social media age. Social media is websites that enable us to communicate with one another over the internet. Some of these sites are twitter and Facebook. This like anything else comes with pros and cons. An example of a pro would be it is easier for us to find information with websites like google. A major con and what we will be discussing today is a lack of personal communication with each other. It s quite the contradiction that nowadays with social media it is easier to talk with people but it s harder to have a real bond with them. We can meet people on sites like twitter and Facebook or message boards but it isn t as intimate as having a face to face conversation with another human being. This is making us a more lonely society. In a survey people in 1985 had a mean size of 2.94 personal confidants in 2004 the number was 2.08 (Marche 603). Also in 1985 10 percent of the American people had no with whom to talk about important matters with and 15 percent said they only had one good friend. By 2004 these numbers were up to 25 percent for nobody to talk to and 20 percent for only one good friend (Marche 603). What these numbers indicate is that the rise in technology has made us have less close personal relationships. In 2004 social media wasn t as big as it is now so the numbers for this might be even larger in 2015. These problems seem to be caused by an overreliance on these websites and ... Frustrated with President Taft s actions, Roosevelt reentered political life in 1910 (Mowry, 1939). In the Osawatomie address, Roosevelt introduced his idea for a New Nationalism. In reaction to that, he met with Progressive leaders after returning from Africa and began plotting a political comeback (Robinson, 2003). I chose to focus on this excerpt because Roosevelt strays from the topic of income inequality in the rest and proposes 17 other reforms. He covers education, foreign policy, and other political issues as he continues speaking. These things would not have gotten adequate focus if I had attempted to analyze the entire address. Roosevelt addressed a crowd of 30,000 people in Osawatomie on August 31, 1910. (La Forte, 1966, p.187). He spoke outside after the John Brown memorial dedication (Hennessy, 1910). When he arrived, the audience greeted him with chants of Hello, Teddy! and enthusiastically cheered the speech at its conclusion (La Forte, 1996, p.196). Roosevelt stood on a kitchen table in front of the crowd and spoke for one and a half hours (La Forte, 1996, p. 196). Kansas governor, Walter Stubbs, joined Roosevelt on the table after the speech and declared, We have just heard one of the greatest pronouncements for human welfare ever made. Using characterization, Sophocles compares the loyalties of Antigone and Creon, providing the gods with the chorus support to show the views of objective observers and emphasize the proper devotion. Antigone, the headstrong heroine, proves that honoring the gods results in a more favorable fate. Right from the start, Antigone makes her opinions clear: the gods wishes are more important than mortal laws. These pathos filled words remind the audience that Antigone is just a young girl who was trying to help her dead brother be redeemed by the gods. Her pathetic martyrdom automatically puts her in the right in the reader s eye. Who would face emotional torment and execution for something she doesn t feel is absolutely necessary? Creon, the new ruler of Thebes, exemplifies the consequences of allegiance to the state, ultimately falling from grace. Aristotle s Poetics define Creon as a tragic hero: Firstly, he is high born. He has too much pride, and Zeus utterly abhors the boasts of a proud tongue (95). And of course Creon s hamartia is his dedication to the state: whomsoever the city may appoint, that man must be obeyed, in little things and great, in just things and unjust (107). Teiresias verifies Antigone s actions and discredits Creon s by offering a prophetic glimpse of the view of the gods: you have thrust [...] a living soul in the grave but keep in this world one who belongs to the gods infernal, a corpse unburied, unhonored, all unhallowed. • 24. Application Of A Temperature Controller CHAPTER 2 LITERATURE REVIEW Background A temperature controller is an indispensable component when processing transmission in optical fiber in order to acquire accurate results. The optical IC should be operated in a stable environment, including temperature, fixed construction and no other external interference. Thus, providing a constant temperature and steady working environment is priority task for the temperature controller. The controller mentioned in this thesis is required to realize several functions: maintain the metal which directly connected to the photonic IC chip at 25В°c, and keep this temperature for long hours. Although this controller is designed for lab use, there are no any power shortage issues for temperature controller, however due to sustainability, the power supply is expected to be natural resources. Further researching is needed on several components to develop the temperature controller and that will be discussed in the next section. The correct cooler system, microcontroller and LCD are the major components that need to be selected according to design constraints. The final project will be low cost and auto tuning which is an automated process based on the temperature gap. This controller needs to respond quickly in a short time when temperature is transmitting. Consequently, there are lots of concerns about online communication use and its potential dangers. John Humphrys says, It s pillaging our punctuation; savaging our sentences; raping our vocabulary. I agree with him as text speak is slowly taking over our Standard English, more than ever now as nearly everyone has a mobile device. One of the major disadvantages about text speak is that since it is not standard, there are no single spelling for some words and as different people have different texting styles, one might misunderstand the message and feel offended due to this misinterpretation. In addition to this, when people write text messages in text speak, they often lose depth and meaning, sadly people often forget how to write in Standard English using correct, standard spelling and grammar. Also, more and more people are using their mobile phones all the time; this could possibly lead to anxiety as they are constantly checking their phones for any new texts/notifications etc. Texting and typing too much can lead to repetitive stress injury which isn t something that young people should have. • 32. The Lexus And The Olive Tree By Thomas L. Friedman The world we live in today has witnessed a variety of changes, improvements and important events overtime. Yet, the most significant incident for many and especially for business related people is Globalisation. It is a term that is used to describe the exchange of knowledge, services, trade, information, cultures and capital between people, governments and organisations of different societies. According to The Economist (2013), economic historians opinions tend to differ when it comes to the history of Globalisation or when did it start. However, they all agree that it is a process that has been going on for a long period of time. People have been trading and exchanging goods and knowledge in lands at great distances for ages. It is a consequence of the movement of people from a continent to another. Historians also believe that it is related to the base of trade and world commerce that was built and established centuries ago. Nonetheless, globalisation gained the attention of developed and under developing countries at the end of the 20th century. It was by the cease of the cold war and the innovation of the Internet as Thomas L. Friedman has mentioned in one of his books on Globalisation called The Lexus and the Olive Tree. The technological advancement that we are observing nowadays has made the world a smaller place. I have problems with memorizing complicated and or important pieces of information; although when I learn through creating something, (for example, creating a picture having to do with moles, in order to learn about the chemistry unit moles) I m able to clearly picture and understand newly introduced concepts. This is why I believe it should be mandatory to require all students to create art in introduction to a new concept. Doing this would not only open up people s minds to art s influences, but it would also have a positive effect on the student s mental process as well. Studies show that arts integration goes beyond including art projects in class; it is a teaching strategy that seamlessly merges arts standards with core curricula to build connections and provide engaging context ( Nobori, Mariko; How the arts unlock the door to learning). Many other people have written about how the brain copes with learning through art, such as Mariko Norbori, a writer for and or creator of the website Edutopia. Norbori was able to visit Wiley H. • 40. An Environmental Assessment ( Ea ) For Maryland Gas ... QUESTION PRESENTED Did FERC s issuance of an Environmental Assessment (EA) and corresponding Finding of no Significant Impact (FONSI) for Maryland Gas 400 Line pipeline project violate NEPA? Should the Sierra Club sue FERC over this issue? SHORT ANSWER Yes. FERC s EA violated NEPA s requirement to consider the cumulative and indirect impacts of a proposed project. While FERC did consider some indirect impacts of the 400 Line project, FERC failed to analyze the 400 Line in conjunction with two connected pipeline projects: the 500 Line and the 600 Line. FERC s fragmented analysis violates NEPA s requirement that environmental review consider interdependent parts of a larger action (40 C.F.R. В§ 1508.25a). Other potential objections to FERC s EA, including the project s effects on endangered species and FERC s failure to analyze certain alternative arrangements, have a smaller and less certain likelihood of legal success. FERC provided a reasoned explanation for most of their choices, and will thus receive generous deference from any reviewing court on those issues. FERC, though, failed to mention either of the two related pipeline projects in the EA, so the Sierra Club will have a strong case that FERC did not meet the requirement, cited in Robertson v. Methow Valley Citizens Council, 490 U.S. 332 (1989), to take a hard look at the environmental consequences of the 400 Line pipeline. FACTS See prompt. • 42. Utopian Urbanism That Forms Utopic Degeneration From recent years, utopian urbanism connects with the so called crisis of modernist urbanism that forms utopic degeneration. Utopia has developed to mean a community with a visionary system of political and societal perfection, where cities that function to improve the daily lives of its citizens; an ideal society, However these concepts are more often than not depicted as an impossible dream, yet too bold, too radical to ever exist in real life. Some utopian visions are focused on new technology, whereas others are on intact landscapes. In other occasions, some are based on new social orders, but all were combined under a radical avant garde and progressive architecture. It is this, their new and bold concepts that drive the imagination of architects and town planners. Although rarely realized in full, principles from some utopian visions have been adopted in part and have had significant influence on existing cities such as New York, Chandigarh and Paris. They are a catalyst for generating ideas and new forms of thinking that leads to, for better or for worse the many innovations in 21st century urban planning. Since utopian thinking can produce a vision of the future that is achievable, what is the connection between having a vision of the future, whether achievable or not, and utopian thinking? Dealing with repeat, criminal offenders, has become a hot topic issue in the corrections community, as well as the justice system as a whole. Society demands to be protected from the criminal element, and rightly so, but how do we identify the career criminals, and keep them from harming others? Even though a small number of career criminals were responsible for the majority of the crimes being committed in the country, it was not until the mid 1980s that selective incapacitation began to be used (Mays Winfree, 2009). One of the assumptions, concerning career criminals, is that here is no way to reform them. These offenders will continually commit criminal acts as long as they are not incarcerated. To keep these career criminals locked away, many states began passing laws to identify, and incarcerate them for mandatory lengths of time. By the mid 1980s, and the early 1990s, states began passing habitual offenders statutes, which in effect, identified repeat offenders in the justice system, and sentencing them to long, mandatory prison sentences, up to, and including life in prison without parole (Mays Winfree, 2009). These statutes are known as the three strikes laws. The meaning behind this is that if an offender, who has been convicted three times for criminal offenses, is incapable of reforming, and therefore should be incarcerated, and kept away from the rest of society. In principle, this may sound like a great idea, and a great way to keep society safe, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After the Gulf of Tonkin incident, which occurred when North Vietnamese patrol boats fired on an American ship that they had discovered conducting a spy mission off the coast of North Vietnam, current United States President Johnson used the incident to eventually get authority from Congress to send more US troops into Vietnam. Slowly over time, the anti war sentiment against the Vietnam War continued to grow amongst the American people. • 55. David Foster Wallace This Is Water Analysis David Foster Wallace was an American novelist, short story writer, and essayist, as well as a professor of English and creative writing at least that s what Wikipedia says. Anyway, he had graduated from Amherst College and majored in English and Philosophy. It was at University of Arizona where he gathered a masters degree in creative writing; and then going to graduate school in Harvard for philosophy. He had a wife, lived under a roof in his youth through two English professors with his sister; he taught at Emerson College, Illinois State University and Pomona College. Along the way, he was awarded the MacArthur Fellowship, a Lannan Literary Award and a Whiting Writers Award. I mean, it sounds like he had his life together. Had. It was on September 12th, 2008 when his wife, Karen L Green, found her 46 year old husband dead in the patio of their home. He had hung himself. • 56. Interpretation of Survey Results INTERPRETATION OF SURVEY RESULTS As part of the requirements in order to complete this paper, I took three surveys to determine my stand on change itself. I ve known that change is the only constant thing in life. People change, situations change, and even nature changes. We have to be prepared for the changes to come around us or we will not be able to make it. In fact, science itself tells us that those who can adapt most to change will those who survive. In the survey entitled Are You Tolerant of Change? , I was able to score 66. This score falls on the moderate level of tolerance for change. But, looking at the number, it s pretty closer to lower tolerance compared to high level of tolerance. The questions in these survey mostly pertained to my reaction in work changes. I might say that the result is quite spot on. Although I am quite moderately tolerant to change, I feel quite uncertain, especially with work changes because I know for a fact that not all the time, things end up positively for us employees. With all the economic uncertainties today, you quite never know when you re going to be laid off and that s quite scary. Still, the results show that I can at least tolerate change and I hope that s enough to get me through. For the survey entitled An Assessment of Low Tolerance for Change , I scored 22 and 36 for self efficacy and tolerance for risk, respectively. From the interpretation, both scores lie on the middle grounds. This means that I am moderately ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. Dinner Research Paper I always think dinner is good, however having dinner with three people who I would like to talk to, that dinner would be the greatest. Three people I would invite to dinner are Fred Weasley, Hermoine Granger, and Johnny Depp. These people are some of my greatest idols. This dinner would be a dream come true, even though I would loveto invite so many more people. Furthermore, there are so many reasons I would invite these three people. First of all, Fred Weasley is the 4th youngest child in the Weasley familyin the book/movie series Harry Potter. He has a twin brother George, (SPOILER ALERT) and he does not survive the Battle of Hogwarts. I would invite Fred because he is my favorite Weasley, and he is a jokester, which would make my dinner fun. He is an idol to me because he died laughing and he always saw the bright side of things. Also, Fred Weasley is not a bad looking man, we would talk about his life and pranks to pull, plus so many other things. I would love to meet Fred Weasley because he is a great (fictional) character. • 58. Unfavorable Budget Variances The plastic and cedar direct materials both had unfavorable flexible budget variances. It is unfavorable because they under budgeted the cost of the direct materials they were going to purchase. This could have been caused by a sudden increase in the cost of buying the materials, or they switched suppliers and had to pay more. The cedar also had an unfavorable price and efficiency variance, while the plastic had an unfavorable efficiency variance. In order to improve this, they need to try to stay consistent with their suppliers so that there is less of a variance. They also need to watch market trends more to see whether people are wanting to buy bird houses, because if they are, then they should budget a higher number of units sold, or vice versa. The company also needs to be more efficient on how they use their materials. For example, the workers need to not use too much or too little cedar when making a bird house, or else... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They ended up paying the workers a lot more than they anticipated. They may have had to work longer hours in order to complete the bird houses, whether it was because they were working too slowly, or they tasks were to hard to complete in the given time. They could have also made poor quality bird houses that needed to be rebuilt, which would have made them throw the old one out. Along with this, the efficiency variance was also unfavorable. This proves that the workers are not completing their work in an efficient manner. In order to improve this part of the budgeting process, the managers should talk with the employees about needing to speed up the process of making the bird houses so they are done on time. The managers may need to rework the setup of the manufacturing center so that the steps to completing the bird house are one after another. This would help the workers to work more efficiently, causing the direct labor variance to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
