Machiavelli And Humanism
While the moral codes of Humanism and Catholicism consider being deceitful to be wrong, from
an amoral perspective, betrayal is unavoidable and comes with its own set of benefits. This is
Machiavelli s view in his 1513 work The Prince, in which he details the complexities of gaining
and maintaining political power to his Italian statesman Lorenzo de Medici, from whom he hopes
to regain a political position after shifts in the unstable Florentine republic. Machiavelli argues that
people, particularly political leaders, should have flexible moral codes so that they can bend them
when necessary. For him, betraying allies or betraying one s own beliefs is acceptable, even
beneficial, because it aids in making tough political decisions to... Show more content on

Despite Machiavelli s tongue in cheek perspective, his intentions in writing The Prince exemplify
the two faced nature of mankind. During political upset in Florence, the ruling family betrays
Machiavelli himself by temporarily jailing him for treason, stripping him of his political
position, and banishing him. Yet unlike Dante, who is more personally affected by his exile,
Machiavelli sees Medici family s return to power as an opportunity to regain his own position,
which is why he hopes to impress Lorenzo with The Prince. For him, betrayal is more expected
under the circumstances, and so he hopes to play them at their own game. By feigning loyalty
and kissing up to Lorenzo, Machiavelli improves his chances of obtaining power, even though he
likely doesn t believe everything he s saying. For him, his true intentions or beliefs don t matter
like with religion and betrayal, his deceitfulness is a useful political tool in a world of deceitful
men. With the sixteenth century Florentine power struggle and religious tension, it was difficult for
anyone to find stability. While Machiavelli experienced treachery firsthand through being banned
from Florence, many Florentines could relate to a general lack of loyalty. During a time of
political turmoil, aspiring leaders would have to hurt people in the process of gaining

Bottle Rocket Experiment
3... 2... 1... Blast off! The bottle rocket kept getting higher and higher, almost as if it was defying
gravity. When it reached its peak, the rocket was nearly as high as the roof of my home. I was
ecstatic! Before this test I tried mixing Mentos with a variety of sodas, but I was never able to
achieve this feat. Only once I realized that I needed to crush the Mentos to increase their surface
area, was I able to maximize my rocket s thrust power. This trial and error experimentation was
simply a way to entertain my curiosity during my school breaks. However, with my diagnosis of
ulcerative colitis, science developed into something more meaningful.
My struggle with the disease turned my attention toward a career in medicine, but the mental

Computer literacy The impact of mobile computing
INF 103
Bonita Spight Williams
September 8, 2014
Mobile computing is growing at an extremely rapid rate and you can see it everywhere you go.
You are probably doing it yourself multiple times a day and don t even realize it. Phones, laptops,
tablets, cloud storage and wireless networks that we use everyday are just a few elements of
mobile computing. A survey listed by Bowles states that 26% of smartphone users makes them feel
like they are being more productive than without them. (Bowles 2013) I can remember taking
typing class in high school and now almost every school in America issues tablets to their students.

There are a few highly advance word processing apps like Microsoft web apps, Polaris and
documents to go for the iPad. (Bowles 2013) I have used both Polaris and Microsoft but have
not tried documents to go. Polaris was extremely good on my Android Galaxy S3 smartphone
and let me do almost everything I could do at my desk out and about. I was a deployment manager
for the Air Force at the time so I always need to be able to view and edit Excel documents on the
fly. It was great to just be able to do it without having to call the office and have someone else do it
or try to make a mental note to do it later. I can say it saved my backside several times.
The iPhone was first release in 2007 and it was the first handheld device that really advanced the
web browsing experience (Newton, 2008). It was such an important event that TIME Magazine
awarded it with the invention of the year.
According to Newton this also was the signal that web marketing was entering a new day and age.
Say hello to the mobile web. You no longer needed to be tethered to your computer to browse the
Internet. The same thing applied as with almost every other tech breakthrough and other companies
followed Apple and these days any smartphone is able to do just about everything a computer can. I

Westpac Case Summary
a whole. This was based on an precedent from a 1970 case law in which it was held that a
director of a group of company is not in breach of his fiduciary duty if the decision was based on
what a reasonable person could consider to be an act that was in the best interest of all
companies in the group. Case law has also shown that in situations where the interest of the
company and the creditor coincides, it is legitimate for the director to consider the interests of
the creditors first . However, with evidence from the fact that the director involved in the
Equiticorp case was able to invoke best interest of the group claim 17 years after the case law
obliging directors to consider creditors interest first shows that the entity model is still applicable
in Australian law . Apparently this leads to very harsh rulings for creditors in these insolvency
situations. This means that Equiticorp s ruling diminishes the only hope of applying and enforcing

A case in point is the Westpac v The Bell Group . In the Westpac case, directors facing liquidation
in 1990 sought to get a bailout on the basis of assets that were legally for creditors of the
company after the 1990 insolvency. However, in 1991, the directors sought a different bailout
with these assets that were due to be confiscated. A restructuring was attempted but it failed and
the providers of the bailout sought to sue for the assets used as collateral for the bailout. This
was dragged through several years of legal proceedings and it became apparent in 2013 (12 years
afterwards) that the claim was not recoverable. This shows that the enterprise model comes with
grey areas that could be exploited by reckless directors to cause further complications for potential
creditors at the verge of a fold

Alimony Spousal Support
Spousal support, or alimony, is based on an outdated social tradition that it is a man s
responsibility to support women because they are weaker, incapable of being equal to men, and
better equipped to raise children. However, this is not the case in today s society and our alimony
laws need to be changed to reflect modern times.
Spousal support traces its roots back to a time when divorce was considered rare and indissoluble.
As a result, a husband and wife remained married even after they had been physically separated.
Since the marriage was permanently binding, a husband still maintained a financial obligation to
his wife, even if they didn t live together. This is the reason why spousal support is almost always
associated with a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, with the advent of the women s rights movement as well as the current feminist era,
women have gained greater independence and opportunities not available to previous generations.
Ca Fam Code В§4320 is fast becoming obsolete, and as a result, has become discriminatory
towards men.
In the case of Orr v. Orr 440 U.S. 268 (1979), an Alabama man was ordered to pay alimony to his ex
wife pursuant to Alabama statues which stated that husbands, not wives, are required to pay
alimony upon divorce. The man appealed to the Alabama Court of Appeals, insisting that his
constitutional rights had been violated. The State of Alabama sustained the constitutionality of the
statues and the man then decided to appeal to the United States Supreme Court, where the State s
decision was then reversed and remanded. The man argued that the gender based scheme for
alimony violated the equal protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. The Court ruled on the
basis that the State s preference for wives having a dependent role to husbands in family
responsibilities was not substantially related to the important governmental objectives of assisting
needy spouses (using sex as a proxy for need) and removing disparity in economic conditions
between men and women. Additionally, the Court ruled that it was no longer feasible to
compensate women based on the notion that marriage left them unprepared to support themselves
following a divorce.

George Washington Two Term Limit
Term Limits America s founding father, George Washington, set the pattern for presidential term
limits to two four year terms; but not through any legislative means. Before 1947, there were no
term limit rules. George Washington s footsteps as the first President set an unbroken precedent for
term limits, but it wasn t until much later that the 22nd Amendment was passed. In more recent
years, politicians and citizens alike have begun to point out more of the flaws in the two term
limit than ever before; and they are on the right track. Restricting the president to a two term limits
the president s effectiveness in office, provides the opportunity for an elected president to abuse
power, and restricts a current president from continuing a successful policy even when majority
wishes for the opposite George Washington, while considered to be the founder of term limits,
actually opposed them entirely. In a letter to the Marquis de Lafayette, Washington said, I can see
no propriety in precluding ourselves from the service of any man who...shall be deemed capable of

Nonverbal Expectancy Violation Theory Essay
Expectancy violation theory, which is a communication theory developed from the Nonverbal
expectancy violation model by Judee K. Burgoon, attempts to explain the unexpected behaviors of
individuals while interacting with one another. While communicating, most people often predict or
expect a particular behavioral response, such as making appropriate eye contacts. However, if the
other person s response does not match their expectations, the response can be either be perceived
positively or negatively, depending on the relationship between the people. The theory emphasizes

For my experiment, I chose to say hi to random individuals while I continuously looked into their
eyes and smiled for an inappropriate amount of time. At first, most of the people I greeted
responded by saying hi back with a smile. However, after prolonging my eye contacts and smiles,
some of the their smiles were replaced by a confused or creeped out look as they look back at
me, while others tried to not maintain eye contact anymore as they walked away rapidly. I was
with my boyfriend when I conducted this experiment, and even though I did not perform the

after a few attempts of doing this out of the norm behavior, my boyfriend decided to join me,

player that currently plays with both Futbol Club Barcelona and his country Argentina. In the other

best soccer players in the world and continue to add records because they are not going to stop

Did Marco Polo Go To China Case Study
Did Marco Polo go to China? This question has been debated for years, since his book came out
in the 1300 s even, some believe that he did make it, like historian Hans Ulrich Vogel. While
others, like Historian Frances Wood believe the furthest he made it was the Black Sea. So, which
story is the correct version? Did he make it to the Khan in China, or did he just base his stories off
stories he heard from other traders? This paper argues that Marco Polodid in fact make it to China.
In Marco Polo s book The Description of the world Polo describes the lands he travelled for 26
years. As he traveled to these lands very different from Venice there were many new disease
opportunities. Roughly a year into his journey, Marco became ill and had to stay in the
mountains of what is present day Afghanistan for close to a year. After almost 4 years of
traveling the Polo s made it to China to the summer palace of the Great Khan Kublai. Over the
years spent in China, Marco was promoted to governor of a great Chinese city, Hangzhou, and
even held an official seat on the Khan s Privy Council. He spent 16 years in China before his
family convinced Khan Kublai to release them from under his rule. However, before they could
return home they had to deliver a Mongol Princess to King Arghun of Persia along the way. After a
harsh journey, only 18 out of the 600 crew and passengers survived, including the Polos and the
princess. When they arrived in Persia they found that King Arghun had died

Illegal Killing and Trafficking of Black Bears Essay
Illegal Killing and Trafficking of Black Bears
The illegal killing and trafficking of animal parts has long been a global concern. With trading at
an estimated 6 billion dollars annually, poaching has become the world s second most profitable
crime activity behind illegal drug trade. In its prevalence, poaching has driven many species to the
point of extinction.
Animals around the world are killed each day for their body parts. In Africa, elephant tusks are a
valuable source of ivory used in jewelry. Moreover, the horns of rhinoceros could command up to
$5,000 in the black market. The mothers of newborn mountain gorillas are often killed so that their
young ones could be shipped to foreign countries for research or display. ... Show more content on

A known compound found in bile, ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA), has been used in western
medicine to treat liver disorders. A gall can command up to $10,000 in east Asia. Its price is about
20 times the street price of cocaine per ounce. Globally, the market in bear parts is estimated at $2
billion.
For obvious reasons, bears have become increasingly rare. Five of the eight bear species in the
world are endangered. In Korea, where they were ounce abundant, black bears are virtually extinct
now with a population between 20 to 300. The population of bears in Russia is dwindling rapidly
as a result of gall trafficking by the Russian Mafia. Bear populations have decreased to the point
that China is now using bear farms to obtain gall. Bears are kept cruelly in small cages that are
often fitted to their body so that they cannot move. A steel catheter surgically implanted to their
gall bladder removes bile from their bodies daily. However, instead of saving bears as claimed, bear
farms have only instigated poaching by increasing demands for gall.
As bear populations decreased in Asia, more traffickers turned to North America where there are a
considerable number of bears. Although poaching also occurs in the United States, the problem
appears to be worse in Canada. This may be attributed to less

Diesel Fuel Vs. Diesel Engines
Who would like to drive a car that gets mediocre gas mileage, a car that has lower torque, and a car
that is all round mediocre? Now who would like to drive a car with improved gas mileage, superior
torque, and a great, reliable engine? The obvious choice is the latter, a car with a diesel engine.
Diesel and gasoline engines have been each other s competition since the 1930 s when the first
diesel run car was produced. There is one main mechanical difference between these two engines; a
gasoline engine ignites the gasoline with spark plugs, a lighter of sorts, and the diesel engine ignites
the diesel by compressing it so much that it spontaneously combusts. Although there are a few other
types of engines now, such as hybrid or electric, diesel is still superior to these.
I have spent numerous hours doing extensive research on the different aspects of diesel engines and
have come up with the conclusion that they are the superior motor.
Through the course of this speech I will show you why going diesel is the better choice, and
prompt you to make the switch to diesel if you have not done so already.
The three main reasons that diesel is better compared to all other engines are: they last longer, they
are more economical, and they are capable of running off of biodiesel.
First, diesel engines last longer and are structurally stronger than all other types of engines.
Diesel engines are much stronger than gasoline, hybrid, or electric engines, and they run for a

Be Cool To The Pizza Dude Analysis
Sarah Adams article Be Cool to the Pizza Dude addresses how we can remember to be kind

my lane, daring anyone to challenge me, the pizza dude speeds by me in his rusted Chevette.
His pizza light atop his car glowing like a beacon reminds me to check myself as I flow through
the world. Likewise, we must remember that we share a planet, we like to believe that we are the
center of the universe. David Wallace Foster demonstrates how this is our default setting, he states
We rarely talk about this sort of natural, basic self centredness, because it s so socially repulsive,
but it s pretty much the same for all of us, deep down. It is our default setting, hard wired into our
boards at birth. Adams recognizes her own default setting, her article reveals that when she becomes

good to remember the fickle spinning of that wheel. Considering the analogy of burnt crust and
hot bubbly cheese, we have all been through lousy, depressing, and pathetic times in our life, we
have all been repulsive burnt disgusting crust and our understanding that everyone else has or
currently is can help us to be thoughtful and mindful of our feelings and actions towards others.
Adams article does qualify as a more informal tone yet it does not detract from her overall
message. The simplicity of her article and her analogy of the pizza dude helps to realize and be
more compassionate because her article explained something most people experience, which is the

The Importance Of Patient Privacy And Confidentiality
Patient privacy and confidentiality is one of the most important foundations when establishing a
nurse client relationship. When providing care, it is the licensed practical nurses ethical, and legal
responsibility to uphold a clients privacy and confidentiality. Ethically, nurses are also obligated to
advocate for their patients, provide safety, establish a trusting nurse client relationship, and protect
client information. In relations to the CLPBC Professional Standards of Practice for Licensed
Practical Nurses as well as the Entry to Practice Competencies for Licensed Practical Nurses; this
passage overviews how nurses maintain and promote the privacy and confidentiality of clients and
client information, the actions to take when confidentiality is breached, and how nurses ensure that
all information is collected, used, and disclosed on pertinent information. Understanding the
difference between privacy and confidentiality is the first step for providing ethical, safe,
compassionate, and competent care. Privacy entails the clients individual right to restrict any
information from being disclosed. People tend to only share information to health care providers
when they feel safe, and in control. Confidentiality, is the health care providers responsibility to
keep enclosed, and private. Nurses should only share patient information to direct sources and when
it is to be used for pertinent data. Providing a private and confidential environment will create a

Transgressive Humor In Matt Stone s South Park
Satirical comedy is a form of aggressive humor that attacks its target from a sense of outrage and
with hope of some reform. In contrast, transgressive humor has no such moral desire. Transgressive
humor does not expect or desire change and is childish in nature. Though not in its nature,
transgressive humordoes have the ability to playfully criticize ignorance, prejudice or stereotypes.
Such is the case in the most successful, transgressive comedybased show to date, South Park.
Created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, South Park is a half hour show, purposefully animated

Volkswagen Logo History
The Volkswagen logo is a household image that is known on an international level. In over

people do not know how ever is it s lush history dating back to Hitler s reign to current day with
law suits debating the original creator of the logo. In short, the Volkswagenlogo is memorable,
scalable, and effective without color. In addition to discussing the evolution of its design, what
makes a good logo, and my opinions on it, I will also discuss the historical background of the logo
and the company itself. Although the design itself is very recognizable, I would say the history
behind it is more intriguing.

A successful logo should work both with and without color. This is important because a lot of
the time, the logo will be used across all mediums. For example, it could be carved in wood or
made with metal. Scalability is another great attribute in a successful logo. Whether the logo is
on a tag under an inch in size, or on a billboard, it should be legible. Lastly, the logo should
obviously be relevant to the industry the company is involved in. This might seem like common
sense to most, but a lot of ineffective logos out there really don t fit the current trend or design
sense for said industry. With that being said, all these points are just my personal opinion and will
come up later when I start discussing the evolution if the Volkswagen logo.
The First Design
The very first Volkswagen logo was developed in 1938 and was actually the result of an office
competition. Franz Xavier Reimspiess, an employee of Porsche, created the first logo during the
logo design competition within the company. He was given a one time payment of 100
Reichsmarks (about $400). Reimspiess was also the engineer who perfected the actual engine for
the first Beetle s in the 1930 s. The initial design done by Reimspiess and the current 3D design
they use today really is not that different for having so much time go by. The initial logo indeed
contain the V sitting on top of the W in a bold sans serif font that is still used today.

Effects of Absent Fathers on Daughters Relationship...
According to the US Census Bureau, 36.3% of children are living absent of their biological fathers.
Beginning in 1960 with 8% of children living without their biological father, that percentage has
continued to increase. The issue of absent fathers has raised many questions as to what effects this
has on individuals and society. Absent fathers (a term that can consist of many different things) can
have a profound effect on the development of their daughter s relationships, especially when it
comes to their relationships with other men. While the research on this topic may be lacking, what
is out there is clear that fathers do play an important role in their development. Women can face
things such as becoming sexually promiscuous, low... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In general girls who grow up without fathers are more likely to experience problems with
relationships than girls who grow up with a father. Adolescent girls raised in fatherless
households are far more likely to engage in promiscuous sexual activity before marriage, to
cohabit, to get pregnant out of wedlock and to have an abortion (Krohn Bogan, 599). The father is
helpful in developing a daughter s femininity and in their sexual development (Williamson, 208).
Women who had absent fathers growing up tend to have idealized relationships with men, as a
hope to get their lost father back, but then comes to the realization that the relationship is flawed
and end up disappointed, only to start the cycle over again (Gill, 225). In some interesting
statistics, 60% of strippers come from an absent father (Adams, Milner, Schrepf, 171). Females in
single parent homes as opposed to intact ones are 53% more likely to marry as teenagers, 111%
more likely to have children as teenagers and 92% more likely to divorce if they marry (Krohn
Bogan, 599).The mother is not completely left out of this scenario though. When there is an absent

John Donne s Poetry
John Donne is in fact a pioneer in the poetic wit of love; he has paved the way for many
metaphysical poets after him. His style of writing, although immediately recognizable, formed to
the events unfolding around him. His work covers his early years of sensuality, where he produced
explicit sexual poetry, along with his later years of religious study, where he wrote explicit
religious poetry, a lot of which are hard to tell apart. Because none of Donne s poetry was
published while he was living, it is difficult for us to date it accurately, but we can assume that he
wrote his more sensual poetry before he went to work with the church. He changed the way most
poets of the 16th and 17th centuries wrote and had a large impact on the poets to follow after...

In A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning,
Donne compares two lovers to the points on a compass. This is surprising because Donne was not
using the conventional Petrarchan conceit to make comparisons like his colleagues. A metaphysical
conceit requires a more introspective way of reasoning to understand the speaker s emotions. Many
were shocked over how Donne transformed the conceit, failing then to see that his use of the
metaphysical conceit offered new insight into his poems and lyrics.
Another way Donne differs from his fellow Renaissance poets is with the use of a present
listener. Donne writes directly to whom the poem was written for, while the other poets of his
day; mostly write their poems without directing it towards a specific listener. His poems have
very few large descriptive passages like the one s used in the works of Edmund Spenser. Donne s
poetry also doesn t have the smooth, poetic flow that the other Renaissance poets had. Donne has
done away with the poetic flow and instead opted to use a speaking voice, whose syntax can easily
show the intensity of Donne s

George Washington Military Life Essay
The Military Life of George Washington
George Washington, a man of many military achievements, brought ragtag farmers to military men,
and destroyed the most powerful army in the world. Washington was appointed the Commander in
Chief of the Continental Army on June 14, 1775. Washington, who had military experience before
serving in the Continental Army, had never commanded an army of this size. He was appointed
leader of the Continental Army because John Hancock, president of the Second Continental
Congress, thought of him as a man of great character who would help unite the colonies. Brilliant
character and leadership help George Washingtonwin battles over the British, and make farmers
into true military men.

Training the farmers was a hard task for George Washington since there is only one of him and
thousands of other farmers who did not know what to do. Also, the colonies had a poor track record
of working together effectively. During the Battle of Saratoga, Ben Franklin created a military
alliance with the French. The French in return sent Marquis de Lafayette, a high ranking general in
the French military, to meet with George Washington. Lafayette was sent over to give the farmers
supplies, and to help train to become true military men. Training the farmers took a lot of hard work
to get them prepared for the war they were entering. An example of farmers being turned into
fighters to defeat the British Army occurred during the winter of Valley Forge. The farmers were
forced to overcome adversity such as disease, starvation, and lack of warmth. They needed
motivation which George Washington gave them. Washington encouraged them that they have
what it takes to defeat the greatest army in the world. The only thing that Washington could not
help with was the pain. Mind over matter. A positive attitude can accomplish anything. Washington
could not stress that enough. Another way that the farmers became military men was their fight at
the Battle of Bunker Hill. They did significant damage to the British. giving them self confidence

Comparing A Streetcar Named Desire and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
Comparing A Streetcar Named Desire and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
In the game of life man is given the options to bluff, raise, or fold. He is dealt a hand created by
the consequences of his choices or by outside forces beyond his control. It is a never ending cycle:
choices made create more choices. Using diverse, complex characters simmering with passion and
often a contradiction within themselves, Tennessee Williams examines the link of past and present
created by man s choices in A StreetcarNamed Desire and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
Delicate Blanche, virile Stanley. Dynamic Maggie, impotent Brick. Williams protagonists are
distinctly different in temperament. In A Streetcar Named Desire Blanche exemplifies the
stereotypical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In contrast, Brick is cool and nonchalant. He wears the charm of the defeated to disguise his
power. Power isn t always brute force. Sometimes refusing to make choices is powerful. Forcing
other to make decisions and thus never shouldering the responsibility is a form of dominance.
Brick proudly proclaims Maggie laid down the law to me said now or never, and so I married
Maggie (Williams, Cat 37). She has to accept a non sexual marriage or she has to be the one
decide to leave. In the end Maggie, wanting to sire an heir and secure her position in the family,
forces Brick to make love to her. He doesn t fight her off, but accepts meekly. It seems as if he isn
t making choice, but by surrendering he does not have to forgive Maggie or change the terms of
their lifeless marriage. Brick, hiding his anger behind a wall of indifference, is powerless and
powerful.
The characters are neither saintly nor villainous but rather a combination of both, often a
contradiction within themselves. Blanche DuBois is Williams masterpiece of contradiction. The
very name Blanche DuBois suggests her duality (Cohn 46). She tells Mitch her name means white
woods. Like an orchard in spring (Williams, Street 55) But even her translation is a fantasy.
Blanche is past her spring and she no longer possesses the virtue associated with white (Cohn 46).

The Importance Of Food Security In The Philippines
About 7 million Filipinos in 2015 have resorted to open defecation 85% of which are from rural
areas without toilet facilities. This poses a threat to the safety of food and quality of drinking
water (WHO, 2016). Although there is a valuable abundance of life and resources, the Philippines
is paradoxically afflicted with various complications and barriers to fully access and sustainably use
the natural resources available. The lives of Filipinos are thus categorized by an adversity that is
persistent throughout the world even with recent progressive developments. Despite being one of
the fastest growing economies in Southeast Asia in recent years, declines in poverty were modest,
leaving marginalized groups such as women, children and the elderly vulnerable to hunger and
poverty. This rapid economic growth, however, does not necessarily translate to better conditions
when combined with other factors such as nutrition and food security (WFP, 2016). The country is
managing to the best of its abilities to concentrate on the underlying issues threatening food
security. Of those issues, the most encompassing is the lack of access to clean water and proper
sanitation, which debilitates a populations ability to survive, actively work, and produce food. In
attempt to address this issue, strict government enforcement of standards, non governmental
intervention with affordable technology or means of sanitation, and education is necessary for
improving the lives Filipinos.

Why the Spanish Armada Invaded Britain and Lost Essay
Spanish Armada Essay
In this essay I am going to look at why the Spanish armada wanted to invade Britain and why
they failed to do so, was it down to luck or were the British too smart for the Spanish. And was it
all England s glory?
The Spanish wanted to invade England was mainly to turn England back into a catholic country,
and to get Queen Elizabeth of the throne and to get a queen who was for the catholic monarch on
the throne. However there are many other reasons: Firstly Philip II couldn?t accept that was not the
king of England, as he was married to Queen Mary I, who was the Queen before Elizabeth.
Secondly, when Philip proposed to Elizabeth she turned him down. Another reason is Elizabeth
wouldn?t stop the privateers from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, before Philip sent the ships out Admiral Sanata Cruz, Spain?s best sailor, died and Philip
replaced him with the Duke of Medina Sidonia, who suffered from seasickness and did not really
want to do the job. Was this a good idea? And should the Spanish of waited to find a new leader
who wanted to do the job?
During the sail up to England the Armada were told to keep a crescent formation no matter what
happened this was the golden rule. The idea of this was so if an English ship was to come in
from behind they could scoop it up like a net. The formation was that the stronger ships would go
at the front so they could easily surround any English ships that threatened the centre. This was the
plan, however it did not all go that way! Lord Howard, commander of the English fleet, used some
of the lighter and faster English ships to ?pick off? some of the stragglers (ones that were lagging
behind) whilst they were sailing up the English channel. Unfortunately this did not really affect the
crescent shape. Next came arguably one of the smartest moves in the battle, on 7th August Sir
Francis Drake sent out a number of old ships that had been set on fire, the Spanish were petrified,
they were not sure if the Ships had explosives on it, if they did so did the Spanish ships and the
chances of them setting on fire was very high. This came as a complete surprise to the

An event that happened in America in the decade of the 1920s there was a large creative movement

dispute between Britain and China escalated throughout the years. In the mid 19th centuries, the
first Opium War was fought between the forces of Britain and the Qing Dynasty. The first war
began because of what Chinaand Britain did to each other to cause this war. The Chinese officials
had shut down the drug trafficking to China because it was becoming very addictive to the
Chinese population. There was a drug known as opium which was very addictive and grew in
india. Britain got the opium from india because . They were giving it to China because they

Puerto Rico and the United States
Since Puerto Rico was first discovered by Christopher Columbus on November 19, 1493, and
Spanish colonization ensued in 1508, Puerto Rico has experienced all of these pressures of identity
and culture.
When Columbus first arrived he found the island populated by thousands of Taino Indians who
made the mistake of showing Columbus gold nuggets in the river. This was all Spain needed to
finance its crown. Differences between the Spaniards and the Taints began around two years later
when Diego Salcedo was killed by the Indians. The Taino Indians revolt against the Spaniards was
met with no success and many left the island or fled into the mountains where they began new lives.

Examples of the obscurity over time or erasures over time that Gonzalez mentioned are for
instance in 1498 when you built the foundation or first floor, at that point in time you did not want
the Spanish language as your official language you wanted to keep your Taino Indian language,
you did not want the language that was being forced upon you by the oppressors. This obviously
did not happen because today, in 1998, you want to keep your native Spanish language and do not
want to adopt the English language.
Race has also conveniently been erased from Puerto Rican history. Black is the core of the Puerto
Rican population according to Gonzalez. ( What I am claiming is that it was the blacks, the people
bound most closely to the territory which they inhabited (they were after all slaves), who had the
greatest difficulty in imagining any other place to live . (Gonzalez, p. 10) When Puerto Ricans first

year. In Tennessee v. Garner in 1985, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that an officer CANNOT use

Because of this, if a parent is trying to be their childs friend, there may not be a positive outcome

The apps compatible with individual operating systems are native apps. Whereas, mobile apps
compatible with different operating systems like android, iOS, Windows and Blackberry OS are

Analysis Of The Film Oren Peli
It is rare that a film comes out of nowhere and shocks audiences, especially with the film industry
s emphasis on advertisements. However, Paranormal Activity did just that. Oren Peli, along with
Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat, started a franchise out of a week long project with no script.
By capitalizing on realism to provoke fear within viewers, Paranormal Activity grossed over 10,000
times its budget, in part by utilizing fans to promote the film. Considering the success of the film,
Paranormal Activity only cost $11,000 to make. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Peli
breaks down exactly where every part of the budget went, citing the software and computer he used
to edit the film as the largest expense at $4,000. Peli paid for all of these expenses, putting all of the
risk involved with the project on him. Although the film would be distributed by Paramount Pictures
two years after completion, the success of the film relied on Peli s execution. Peli uses this risk to
his advantage, making sure every detail in the film is relevant and captures his vision. Yet, the final
scene of the film strays from this technique, and for good reason. Steven Spielberg, whose company
DreamWorkswas acquired by Paramount during this time, viewed the film prior to its distribution
and worked tirelessly to get it released. In the same interview with Entertainment Weekly,
Spielberg is quoted as saying: I sent more emails and made more phone calls, trying to get

At the beginning of our time on this earth, mankind was learning to stand up. Upon walking a

Then we decided to stop moving and mankind developed cultivation skills to better serve us.
Since then mankind has grown by leaps and bounds over the kingdoms and empires of old.
Growth was spurred by conquest. It was almost as if man was born to kill or be killed. Although
riddled with turmoil the age that would surpass these days would always be over the cliff of a far

why the ABM decision came up in 1969 was that ten years earlier Secretary of Defense McElroy,

Portrayal Of Women In The Odyssey
The portrayal of women in society and literature is known to be sexist and male dominated. The
Odyssey by Homer, translated by Robert Fagles, has similar portrayal of women and it presents
women as deceiving in many cases, as well as, their subservience. From a feminist perspective, one
would agree that women in The Odysseycompared to the men are deceptive and very dependent on
the males in their families, including their husbands. The men, however, are demonstrated as
independent and as the protectors of the household, while the women are forced to stay. To begin
with, women in The Odyssey are portrayed as deceptive in several situations. For example, Circe
and Odysseusmen. Circe was deceiving to Odysseus men by luring them in with her voice,
poisoning them, and then holding them captive (Book 10, lines 242 254). Not only were some
of the women deceiving, but all women were perceived that way by men. When Hermes told
Calypso, by the orders of Zeus, to let Odysseus leave she confronted him and told him to go, but
he hesitated because of the thought of her deceiving him (Book 5, 125 199). Now I am
willing...to send you off at last... (Book 5, line 179). Odysseus responded to Calypso by saying,
Passage home? I won t set foot on a raft until you show me good faith, until you consent to swear,
goddess, a binding oath you ll never plot some new intrigue to harm me! (Book 5, lines 192 199).

Autism Overview Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a widely known disability that, as of 2012,
affects about 1 in 68 of children in the United States (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,

common characteristics. Autism belongs to heterogeneous categories of developmental
disabilities where neurological disorders lead to deficits in a child s ability to communicate,
understand language, play, develop social skills, and relate to others (Rao Gagie, 2006, p. 26).
These deficits can range in varying degrees of severity, which is why the disability is considered to

Many students in high school lack vocational training that could increase their future success, and
many students with disabilities are in need of extra training or exploration to help them establish
these goals (Swank Huber, 2013). IDEA states that students with disabilities should be prepared for
further education, employment, and independent living (IDEA, 2004). Although this is stated in
the law, many students with disabilities are not getting a sufficient vocational education. Students
with disabilities are required to have a transition plan in place when they are in high school.
Transition planning is critical for all individuals, with or without disabilities, and this planning
should focus on layering the foundation and providing support for transition in all aspects of adult
life (Sitlington, 1996, p. 37). Teaching vocational skills are an essential part of this transition
planning.
Students are educated, but there is a separation between vocational and academic education.
Students are more prepared for post secondary education than they are for the workforce (Gebhardt,

Secondary students with disabilities often are denied access to the broad continuum of vocational

Honey Bees Serve A Critical Role Of Agriculture
A ubiquitous species found everywhere except Antarctica, honey bees serve a critical role in
agriculture. A third of the world s food supply is dependent on pollinators such as them (Healey).
In the United States alone, an estimate of 2.4 million bee colonies, both native and managed

and conservation efforts have been taken to help preserve the remaining honey bee populations in
three particular areas: managing pesticide laws and regulations, providing adequate habitat, and
conserving genetic diversity.
Use of pesticides is one of the most significant causes behind the current decline of honey bee
colonies. One particular group of pesticides is neonicotinoid pesticides, which includes clothianidin,
imidacloprid, and thiamethoxam, as an alternative to DDT (Crawford). Popular with farmers, they

Pro And Cons And Specification Of The Chevrolet Equinox
Originally introduced in 2004, the Chevrolet Equinox, has become a leader in the compact SUV
category with a second generation released in 2010. The 2017 model, which is available in four
different trims, has received new safety features and a redesigned exterior, but you may want to
wait for a 3rd generation Equinox. Specifications The 2017 Chevrolet Equinox which is a 5
passenger vehicle is obtainable in the L, LS, LT, and Premier trims. The L trim is available only
in front wheel drive. The other three trims are obtainable both in front wheel drive and all wheel
drive. The Equinox has an 182 horsepower four cylinder engine, a 2.4 liter engine with 172 lb of
torque and a 6 speed swift automatic transmission with manual shift mode. Owing to this... Show

The Equinox has ample leg room than the Ford Escape, Honda CR V, and Toyota RAV4. It also
has a Multi FlexВ® sliding rear seat and 4G LTE Wi Fi which is absent in the 2015 Toyota
RAV4. Pros and Cons The Chevrolet Equinox is comfortable, generously spacious, and quiet,
except when it increases speed. It provides a quick transition and a smooth ride. The interior
layout is flexible, switching effortlessly between cargo and hauling passengers. The redesigned
exterior is also quite fashionable. However, the Chevrolet is noisy when it accelerates and has
low power. The Eco Mode may not save enough fuel for the reduction in performance, and manual
shift mode is disappointing. Changes are required in continual radius turns, and the distance
necessary for fade free braking is slightly longer than other compacted SUVs. Also, the 2017
Chevrolet Equinox doesn t have an emergency braking system which is disappointing. Although it
is slightly larger than its rivalry, the total cargo space is smaller. The interior elegance could use an
upgrade, and additional air vents are needed to heat and cool passengers in the second

My Behavior Modification Project
Waking up in the morning, weather it for school or work, is something most people struggle
with, so I chose it for my behavior modification project. Every morning when I get up for school
I find it hard to stay awake. Ether after my alarm or after i m woken up I usually fall back to
sleep. This could be the result of staying up to late, but I usually get to bed at a good time. My
goal going into this project was to be able to get up and stay up at the end of the modification. I
feel that this could be achieved it just might take more than three days. To start off collecting the
baseline data every morning after I woke up I recorded my data. Which were how long it took me
to get up, and how about how many times I fell back to sleep. I chose

Loans to Cambodia through Kiva
There exists an overwhelming amount of people on Kiva who are requesting funds for their
loan. When reading each individual s profile it can be rather difficult to choose only one person
to which to loan, for each individual seeks the loan to better their lives or the lives of their
children. In order to help myself narrow done the list of individuals seeking help, I created a list
of preferences of who I was to give the loan. My requirements were that the borrower be a female
seeking to help her children obtain a higher education. Upon placing my requirement I was finally
able to find the person to whom I desired to give a loan. The chosen individual was Nara from

Within day of the Khmer Rouge coming into power, Cambodia entered into the darkest time of its
history. Two million people were forced to evacuate from the cities to the countryside in which
they would undertake agriculture work. The Khmer Rouge s goal was to create a rural, classless
society and would force people to work in the fields for more than 12 hours a day without adequate
rest or food. The Khmer Rouge placed a ban on family relationships and began an aggressive
campaign to brainwash children and encourage them to spy on their parents. The children were
taught to report their parents to authorities and turn in their parents as enemies of the state.
Following their coming into power and the evacuations of the citizens, the Khmer Rouge turned its
sights on the people in its own organization.
The Khmer Rouge soon claimed that only pure people were qualified to build their revolution. They
arrested and killed thousands of their soldiers, military officers and civil servants. In the next three
years, the Khmer Rouge would ban religious practice and abolish money, markets, and private
property. School, hospital, shops, offices, and monasteries were closed. The Khmer Rouge
persecuted intellectuals, city residents and minorities; murdering hundreds of thousands of people
over the three year period. During the Khmer Rouge regime tensions built between the Khmer
Rouge and communist Vietnam. In 1979, the Vietnamese invaded Cambodia and push the Khmer

How do I keep my own biases and my own history from...
I have a jumbled mess of information to process. I believe that being African America, Black, or
of African descent, whichever is currently more acceptable that I have a plethora of bias pointed
in my direction. Being a female doesn t help alleviate the dilemma. Growing up in what is
considered a textbook black familystereotype I am the last of six children, my mother having had
children by different men, the home being on public assistance, growing up in a single parent
household and church every Sunday. With a deceased father at the age of seven I became one of

My family attended church regularly but it never clicked with me. I attended other religious
denominations and felt no different towards religion. I am a stable individual with good morals and
I have never committed a felony nor have I ever been incarcerated. I am not or have ever been
addicted to drugs or alcohol and narrowly missed being a teen unwed mother. There are between
80 to 100 percent of Americans imprisoned who claim to have a religious affiliation according to
Denise Golumaski a research Analyst for the Federal Bureau of Prisons. So how then is religion
better for rising children? I have to break from my bias and consider other factors. The numbers of
people like me who have never been incarcerated but are affiliated with a religion. Also the element
that certain lessons taught carry over into adulthood that are positive and provide a positive
outcome.
I also have a bias with the public assistance system. This too is from personal experience and the
experience of those I am familiar with. I believe that the public assistance system is flawed and
does little for those receiving assistance. There are people who express very heated feelings
toward the program. Tax payers have the burden of paying for services they do not or will ever
receive. Working forty hour days for years and paying increasing taxes for those who do not work
I m sure can be extremely frustrating. And I do understand the need for such programs as well has

Renaissance Jousting And Fencing Essay
Renaissance Jousting and fencing John choi pr 1
One of the earliest forms of weapon to weapon combat was jousting and fencing. Jousting was
one of the earliest forms of horseback combat for soldiers, before it was even a sport, and fencing
dates back to the Egyptians as an early fighting style. The art of jousting involves the use of a
lance which was a long pointed spear with a cone all the way to the base of the handle and fencing
required a Rapier, which was a thin long sword that was more of a jabbing weapon than a slicing
weapon. These two martial arts have been through lots of changes throughout the renaissance.

Fencing has always been regarded as more than a sport; it is an art form, an ancient symbol of
power and glory, and a deeply personal, individual form of expression.В The lance or Pike was a
cone like spear that was to be used on a horseback knight and was used as the leading charge in
the cavalry. On the back of the shaft where pole meets spear there was a guard called a Vamplate
to prevent the hand from sliding into the spear, after the Pike had hit the target. The lance was
typically not used in close range melee due to its tremendous weight and size and the lancers,
would always carry a small sword, or mace for had to hand combat when they were off of the
horse. The Fencing sword or Rapier is a thin long pointed sword that was mostly used as a
jabbing weapon than the traditional slicing weapon. The Rapier relied on quick thrusts the pierce
open spots on ones armor. The Rapier consists of the blade; hilt and handle like traditional swords
except the Rapier had a very thin blade, with a complex guard that was used to protect the hand

It is important we observe in an unobtrusive nature. 4) Do you agree or disagree with Joe and Ian

you consider in developing an estimate? We feel that the time estimation of Joe and Ian is a bit
optimistic and more time might be necessary. We also believe that trying to fit all this
information gathering in to two weeks might have a negative effect on the work climate. This
because the gathering of this information may form an invasion in the daily routine of the
workers. Yet we think some time can be saved by trading in the informational interviews for
surveys. This can also provide the necessary information yet in a shorter period of time. Also the
documentation review should be limited to relevant information of only the affected departments.
The interviews with employees at multiple levels of the affected departments are of great
importance and for this reason not wise to rush or replace for a different technique. As well the
examination of the job description and training materials related to the positions in question as the
extended period of observation of the workers are of great importance. Both these processes
might lead to the cause of the struggles of Dixie weaving. This requires a lot of time and precision

How Nuclear Power Plants Creates Electricity
HOW DOES IT CREATE ELECTRICITY?
A nuclear power plant creates electricity by splitting uranium atoms in a reactor. The heat from
splitting the atoms heats water, and turns it into steam. The steam turns a steam turbine, which
turns a copper coil and magnet generator. This creates electricity. The electricity is then put through
a transformer (to change the voltage), and is put on transmission lines. In a nuclear power plant,
nothing burns. The water stays in a cooling tower, ready to be used for steam. The uranium comes in
pellets, which are put into tubes. The tubes are put into bundles, and put in the reactor. Splitting the
atoms is called fission. There are 2 ways to heat the water, the Boiling Water Reactor and the
Pressurized Water

What types of epidemiological studies would be most useful to help one gather data, descriptive or
analytical studies, and why?
Descriptive study would be the most valuable to assist one gather data since descriptive study
depicts the populations which are at risk and the level of disease (WNV) together in space and
time inside these populations. Descriptive study would authorize to compute the amount of persons
infected through WNV during a time period. This might authorize a sequence of propositions to be
built as regards determinants of WNV and consequences of WNV on populace. (4. The
epidemiological approach to investigating disease problems)
What is the significance to your local community and the state community in relation to the disease?
WNV can result in intricate infection. WNV has spread as a cyclic plague into North America.
WNV signifies a mosquito borne virus which spread in birds. Mosquitoes are generally wandered in

The Doctrine Of The Trinity
The word Trinity cannot be found in the bible, but neither can omnipresent or omniscient; yet they
all describe the Biblical expression of who God is and how he is revealed to humanity. Furthermore,
the doctrine of the Trinity is so crucial to Christianity, that if it was removed Christianity would
crumble and fall into cult status. Even through the doctrine of the Trinitytook almost a three
hundred to be formally stated at the Council of Nicea (325) and the Council of Constantople
(381);1 Roger Olsen points out that all one has to do is read second and third century church fathers
such as Athenagoras, Tertullian, Irenaeus, Origen or Cyprian to see immediately that Christians
believed in the Trinity long before Constantine called all the Christian bishops to the first
ecumenical council at Nicea in 325. 2
Thereby, this makes the doctrine of the Trinity part of the Great Tradition of Christian Belief for
almost 2000 years.3 Specifically; the Trinity is God who is three distinct entities Father, Son and
Holy Spirit. Neither is elevated above the other, rather they exist in perfect unity. The evidence
supporting the Trinity can been seen clearly in Scripture, has been affirmed by all branches of
Christianity and deeply contrasts all other concepts, such as modalism, Arianism and tritheism.
First of all, the clearest display of the Trinity, in the Bible is in the baptism of Christ. The three
synoptic Gospel writers, Matthew, Mark and Luke, all point to Jesus being in the

The above reaction scheme shows that one mole of sugar will react with one mole of 3,5
dinitrosalicylic acid. However, it is suspected that there are many side reactions, and the actual
reaction stoichiometry is more complicated than that previously described. The type of side
reaction depends on the exact nature of the reducing sugars.
Different reducing sugars generally yield different color intensities; thus, it is necessary to calibrate
for each sugar. In addition to the oxidation of the carbonyl groups in the sugar, other side reactions
such as the decomposition of sugar also compete for the availability of 3,5 dinitrosalicylic acid(http:
//www.ehow.com/about_5244996_general use dinitrosalicylic acid.html). As a consequence,
carboxymethyl cellulose can affect the calibration curve by enhancing the intensity of the
developed color. Although this is a convenient and relatively inexpensive method, due to the
relatively low specificity, one must run blanks diligently if the colorimetric results are to be
interpreted

  • 2. Machiavelli And Humanism While the moral codes of Humanism and Catholicism consider being deceitful to be wrong, from an amoral perspective, betrayal is unavoidable and comes with its own set of benefits. This is Machiavelli s view in his 1513 work The Prince, in which he details the complexities of gaining and maintaining political power to his Italian statesman Lorenzo de Medici, from whom he hopes to regain a political position after shifts in the unstable Florentine republic. Machiavelli argues that people, particularly political leaders, should have flexible moral codes so that they can bend them when necessary. For him, betraying allies or betraying one s own beliefs is acceptable, even beneficial, because it aids in making tough political decisions to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite Machiavelli s tongue in cheek perspective, his intentions in writing The Prince exemplify the two faced nature of mankind. During political upset in Florence, the ruling family betrays Machiavelli himself by temporarily jailing him for treason, stripping him of his political position, and banishing him. Yet unlike Dante, who is more personally affected by his exile, Machiavelli sees Medici family s return to power as an opportunity to regain his own position, which is why he hopes to impress Lorenzo with The Prince. For him, betrayal is more expected under the circumstances, and so he hopes to play them at their own game. By feigning loyalty and kissing up to Lorenzo, Machiavelli improves his chances of obtaining power, even though he likely doesn t believe everything he s saying. For him, his true intentions or beliefs don t matter like with religion and betrayal, his deceitfulness is a useful political tool in a world of deceitful men. With the sixteenth century Florentine power struggle and religious tension, it was difficult for anyone to find stability. While Machiavelli experienced treachery firsthand through being banned from Florence, many Florentines could relate to a general lack of loyalty. During a time of political turmoil, aspiring leaders would have to hurt people in the process of gaining ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Bottle Rocket Experiment 3... 2... 1... Blast off! The bottle rocket kept getting higher and higher, almost as if it was defying gravity. When it reached its peak, the rocket was nearly as high as the roof of my home. I was ecstatic! Before this test I tried mixing Mentos with a variety of sodas, but I was never able to achieve this feat. Only once I realized that I needed to crush the Mentos to increase their surface area, was I able to maximize my rocket s thrust power. This trial and error experimentation was simply a way to entertain my curiosity during my school breaks. However, with my diagnosis of ulcerative colitis, science developed into something more meaningful. My struggle with the disease turned my attention toward a career in medicine, but the mental ... • 4. Ashford Computer Literacy Week 5 Computer literacy The impact of mobile computing INF 103 Bonita Spight Williams September 8, 2014 Mobile computing is growing at an extremely rapid rate and you can see it everywhere you go. You are probably doing it yourself multiple times a day and don t even realize it. Phones, laptops, tablets, cloud storage and wireless networks that we use everyday are just a few elements of mobile computing. A survey listed by Bowles states that 26% of smartphone users makes them feel like they are being more productive than without them. (Bowles 2013) I can remember taking typing class in high school and now almost every school in America issues tablets to their students. In order to fully discuss mobile computing we first have to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are a few highly advance word processing apps like Microsoft web apps, Polaris and documents to go for the iPad. (Bowles 2013) I have used both Polaris and Microsoft but have not tried documents to go. Polaris was extremely good on my Android Galaxy S3 smartphone and let me do almost everything I could do at my desk out and about. I was a deployment manager for the Air Force at the time so I always need to be able to view and edit Excel documents on the fly. It was great to just be able to do it without having to call the office and have someone else do it or try to make a mental note to do it later. I can say it saved my backside several times. The iPhone was first release in 2007 and it was the first handheld device that really advanced the web browsing experience (Newton, 2008). It was such an important event that TIME Magazine awarded it with the invention of the year. According to Newton this also was the signal that web marketing was entering a new day and age. Say hello to the mobile web. You no longer needed to be tethered to your computer to browse the Internet. The same thing applied as with almost every other tech breakthrough and other companies followed Apple and these days any smartphone is able to do just about everything a computer can. • 5. Westpac Case Summary a whole. This was based on an precedent from a 1970 case law in which it was held that a director of a group of company is not in breach of his fiduciary duty if the decision was based on what a reasonable person could consider to be an act that was in the best interest of all companies in the group. Case law has also shown that in situations where the interest of the company and the creditor coincides, it is legitimate for the director to consider the interests of the creditors first . However, with evidence from the fact that the director involved in the Equiticorp case was able to invoke best interest of the group claim 17 years after the case law obliging directors to consider creditors interest first shows that the entity model is still applicable in Australian law . Apparently this leads to very harsh rulings for creditors in these insolvency situations. This means that Equiticorp s ruling diminishes the only hope of applying and enforcing Walker V Wimborne as a standard to obligate directors to put creditors needs... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A case in point is the Westpac v The Bell Group . In the Westpac case, directors facing liquidation in 1990 sought to get a bailout on the basis of assets that were legally for creditors of the company after the 1990 insolvency. However, in 1991, the directors sought a different bailout with these assets that were due to be confiscated. A restructuring was attempted but it failed and the providers of the bailout sought to sue for the assets used as collateral for the bailout. This was dragged through several years of legal proceedings and it became apparent in 2013 (12 years afterwards) that the claim was not recoverable. This shows that the enterprise model comes with grey areas that could be exploited by reckless directors to cause further complications for potential creditors at the verge of a fold ... • 6. Alimony Spousal Support Spousal support, or alimony, is based on an outdated social tradition that it is a man s responsibility to support women because they are weaker, incapable of being equal to men, and better equipped to raise children. However, this is not the case in today s society and our alimony laws need to be changed to reflect modern times. Spousal support traces its roots back to a time when divorce was considered rare and indissoluble. As a result, a husband and wife remained married even after they had been physically separated. Since the marriage was permanently binding, a husband still maintained a financial obligation to his wife, even if they didn t live together. This is the reason why spousal support is almost always associated with a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, with the advent of the women s rights movement as well as the current feminist era, women have gained greater independence and opportunities not available to previous generations. Ca Fam Code В§4320 is fast becoming obsolete, and as a result, has become discriminatory towards men. In the case of Orr v. Orr 440 U.S. 268 (1979), an Alabama man was ordered to pay alimony to his ex wife pursuant to Alabama statues which stated that husbands, not wives, are required to pay alimony upon divorce. The man appealed to the Alabama Court of Appeals, insisting that his constitutional rights had been violated. The State of Alabama sustained the constitutionality of the statues and the man then decided to appeal to the United States Supreme Court, where the State s decision was then reversed and remanded. The man argued that the gender based scheme for alimony violated the equal protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. The Court ruled on the basis that the State s preference for wives having a dependent role to husbands in family responsibilities was not substantially related to the important governmental objectives of assisting needy spouses (using sex as a proxy for need) and removing disparity in economic conditions between men and women. Additionally, the Court ruled that it was no longer feasible to compensate women based on the notion that marriage left them unprepared to support themselves following a divorce. The ... • 8. George Washington Two Term Limit Term Limits America s founding father, George Washington, set the pattern for presidential term limits to two four year terms; but not through any legislative means. Before 1947, there were no term limit rules. George Washington s footsteps as the first President set an unbroken precedent for term limits, but it wasn t until much later that the 22nd Amendment was passed. In more recent years, politicians and citizens alike have begun to point out more of the flaws in the two term limit than ever before; and they are on the right track. Restricting the president to a two term limits the president s effectiveness in office, provides the opportunity for an elected president to abuse power, and restricts a current president from continuing a successful policy even when majority wishes for the opposite George Washington, while considered to be the founder of term limits, actually opposed them entirely. Burgoon, attempts to explain the unexpected behaviors of individuals while interacting with one another. While communicating, most people often predict or expect a particular behavioral response, such as making appropriate eye contacts. However, if the other person s response does not match their expectations, the response can be either be perceived positively or negatively, depending on the relationship between the people. At first, most of the people I greeted responded by saying hi back with a smile. I was with my boyfriend when I conducted this experiment, and even though I did not perform the experiment on him, he too gave me a puzzled look at first and asked what I was doing. But then after a few attempts of doing this out of the norm behavior, my boyfriend decided to join me, which made it more of an unexpected behavior for many. Many of the passerby responded in ways that I mentioned above, while others whispered the words what the heck? and weirdos . Both of these guys have wrote their names down as some of the the best soccer players in the world and continue to add records because they are not going to stop soon. While critics argue that Ronaldo is the best player, I argue that Messi is the best player of all time, because he has won more ballon d or and has a better playing style even though Ronaldo has more goals and some better strengths. This question has been debated for years, since his book came out in the 1300 s even, some believe that he did make it, like historian Hans Ulrich Vogel. While others, like Historian Frances Wood believe the furthest he made it was the Black Sea. So, which story is the correct version? Did he make it to the Khan in China, or did he just base his stories off stories he heard from other traders? This paper argues that Marco Polodid in fact make it to China. In Marco Polo s book The Description of the world Polo describes the lands he travelled for 26 years. As he traveled to these lands very different from Venice there were many new disease opportunities. Roughly a year into his journey, Marco became ill and had to stay in the mountains of what is present day Afghanistan for close to a year. After almost 4 years of traveling the Polo s made it to China to the summer palace of the Great Khan Kublai. Over the years spent in China, Marco was promoted to governor of a great Chinese city, Hangzhou, and even held an official seat on the Khan s Privy Council. He spent 16 years in China before his family convinced Khan Kublai to release them from under his rule. However, before they could return home they had to deliver a Mongol Princess to King Arghun of Persia along the way. After a harsh journey, only 18 out of the 600 crew and passengers survived, including the Polos and the princess. When they arrived in Persia they found that King Arghun had died ... With trading at an estimated 6 billion dollars annually, poaching has become the world s second most profitable crime activity behind illegal drug trade. In its prevalence, poaching has driven many species to the point of extinction. Animals around the world are killed each day for their body parts. In Africa, elephant tusks are a valuable source of ivory used in jewelry. Moreover, the horns of rhinoceros could command up to $5,000 in the black market. Five of the eight bear species in the world are endangered. In Korea, where they were ounce abundant, black bears are virtually extinct now with a population between 20 to 300. The population of bears in Russia is dwindling rapidly as a result of gall trafficking by the Russian Mafia. Bear populations have decreased to the point that China is now using bear farms to obtain gall. Bears are kept cruelly in small cages that are often fitted to their body so that they cannot move. A steel catheter surgically implanted to their gall bladder removes bile from their bodies daily. However, instead of saving bears as claimed, bear farms have only instigated poaching by increasing demands for gall. As bear populations decreased in Asia, more traffickers turned to North America where there are a considerable number of bears. • 14. Diesel Fuel Vs. Diesel Engines Who would like to drive a car that gets mediocre gas mileage, a car that has lower torque, and a car that is all round mediocre? Now who would like to drive a car with improved gas mileage, superior torque, and a great, reliable engine? The obvious choice is the latter, a car with a diesel engine. Diesel and gasoline engines have been each other s competition since the 1930 s when the first diesel run car was produced. There is one main mechanical difference between these two engines; a gasoline engine ignites the gasoline with spark plugs, a lighter of sorts, and the diesel engine ignites the diesel by compressing it so much that it spontaneously combusts. Although there are a few other types of engines now, such as hybrid or electric, diesel is still superior to these. I have spent numerous hours doing extensive research on the different aspects of diesel engines and have come up with the conclusion that they are the superior motor. Through the course of this speech I will show you why going diesel is the better choice, and prompt you to make the switch to diesel if you have not done so already. The three main reasons that diesel is better compared to all other engines are: they last longer, they are more economical, and they are capable of running off of biodiesel. First, diesel engines last longer and are structurally stronger than all other types of engines. Diesel engines are much stronger than gasoline, hybrid, or electric engines, and they run for a copious ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A successful logo should work both with and without color. This is important because a lot of the time, the logo will be used across all mediums. For example, it could be carved in wood or made with metal. Scalability is another great attribute in a successful logo. Whether the logo is on a tag under an inch in size, or on a billboard, it should be legible. Lastly, the logo should obviously be relevant to the industry the company is involved in. This might seem like common sense to most, but a lot of ineffective logos out there really don t fit the current trend or design sense for said industry. With that being said, all these points are just my personal opinion and will come up later when I start discussing the evolution if the Volkswagen logo. In general girls who grow up without fathers are more likely to experience problems with relationships than girls who grow up with a father. Adolescent girls raised in fatherless households are far more likely to engage in promiscuous sexual activity before marriage, to cohabit, to get pregnant out of wedlock and to have an abortion (Krohn Bogan, 599). The father is helpful in developing a daughter s femininity and in their sexual development (Williamson, 208). Women who had absent fathers growing up tend to have idealized relationships with men, as a hope to get their lost father back, but then comes to the realization that the relationship is flawed and end up disappointed, only to start the cycle over again (Gill, 225). In some interesting statistics, 60% of strippers come from an absent father (Adams, Milner, Schrepf, 171). When there is an absent father, the response of the mother is an important one in helping the child cope more easily. Many were shocked over how Donne transformed the conceit, failing then to see that his use of the metaphysical conceit offered new insight into his poems and lyrics. Because of this, if a parent is trying to be their childs friend, there may not be a positive outcome for the parent or the child. Being a child s friend puts you emotionally on the same level with them; however, during middle childhooda child benefits from knowing that there is an adult who loves them, that can handle the tough times and decisions in life, can give them instruction, and can set clear rules (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], ... • 34. Analysis Of The Film Oren Peli It is rare that a film comes out of nowhere and shocks audiences, especially with the film industry s emphasis on advertisements. However, Paranormal Activity did just that. Oren Peli, along with Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat, started a franchise out of a week long project with no script. By capitalizing on realism to provoke fear within viewers, Paranormal Activity grossed over 10,000 times its budget, in part by utilizing fans to promote the film. Considering the success of the film, Paranormal Activity only cost $11,000 to make. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Peli breaks down exactly where every part of the budget went, citing the software and computer he used to edit the film as the largest expense at $4,000. Peli paid for all of these expenses, putting all of the risk involved with the project on him. Although the film would be distributed by Paramount Pictures two years after completion, the success of the film relied on Peli s execution. Peli uses this risk to his advantage, making sure every detail in the film is relevant and captures his vision. Yet, the final scene of the film strays from this technique, and for good reason. Steven Spielberg, whose company DreamWorkswas acquired by Paramount during this time, viewed the film prior to its distribution and worked tirelessly to get it released. This characteristic shows up all too often in defense research and development programs, especially in the field of nuclear weaponry. A possibly fundamental reason why the ABM decision came up in 1969 was that ten years earlier Secretary of Defense McElroy, in dividing up the space and missile roles and missions among the three services, assigned the ABM to the Army as its only sophisticated missile program. This decision created a situation in which for many years the lives and careers of many able persons had been closely entwined with the life and fate of one single program: the Army s ABM. • 37. Portrayal Of Women In The Odyssey The portrayal of women in society and literature is known to be sexist and male dominated. The Odyssey by Homer, translated by Robert Fagles, has similar portrayal of women and it presents women as deceiving in many cases, as well as, their subservience. From a feminist perspective, one would agree that women in The Odysseycompared to the men are deceptive and very dependent on the males in their families, including their husbands. The men, however, are demonstrated as independent and as the protectors of the household, while the women are forced to stay. To begin with, women in The Odyssey are portrayed as deceptive in several situations. For example, Circe and Odysseusmen. Circe was deceiving to Odysseus men by luring them in with her voice, poisoning them, and then holding them captive (Book 10, lines 242 254). Not only were some of the women deceiving, but all women were perceived that way by men. When Hermes told Calypso, by the orders of Zeus, to let Odysseus leave she confronted him and told him to go, but he hesitated because of the thought of her deceiving him (Book 5, 125 199). Now I am willing...to send you off at last... (Book 5, line 179). Odysseus responded to Calypso by saying, Passage home? I won t set foot on a raft until you show me good faith, until you consent to swear, goddess, a binding oath you ll never plot some new intrigue to harm me! (Book 5, lines 192 199). Although this is stated in the law, many students with disabilities are not getting a sufficient vocational education. Students with disabilities are required to have a transition plan in place when they are in high school. Transition planning is critical for all individuals, with or without disabilities, and this planning should focus on layering the foundation and providing support for transition in all aspects of adult life (Sitlington, 1996, p. 37). • 40. Honey Bees Serve A Critical Role Of Agriculture A ubiquitous species found everywhere except Antarctica, honey bees serve a critical role in agriculture. A third of the world s food supply is dependent on pollinators such as them (Healey). In the United States alone, an estimate of 2.4 million bee colonies, both native and managed colonies, pollinate crops ( The Importance of Pollinators ). However, in the 2015 2016 survey conducted by the Bee Informed Partnership, beekeepers across the nation lost 44.1 percent of their honey beecolonies, an increase of 3.5 percent over the previous study year (The Bee Informed Team). The decline is not a recent phenomenon; the number of colonies in the United States has fallen from six million in 1947 (Mathiesan and Goldenberg) to the 2.4 million today. Honey bee decline is due to a broad spectrum of causes, from human activities to diseases ( The Importance of Pollinators ), which have been widely studied by scientists to create conservation plans. Research and conservation efforts have been taken to help preserve the remaining honey bee populations in three particular areas: managing pesticide laws and regulations, providing adequate habitat, and conserving genetic diversity. Use of pesticides is one of the most significant causes behind the current decline of honey bee colonies. (What is West Nile Virus ? What causes West Nile Virus?, 2010) What types of epidemiological studies would be most useful to help one gather data, descriptive or analytical studies, and why? Descriptive study would be the most valuable to assist one gather data since descriptive study depicts the populations which are at risk and the level of disease (WNV) together in space and time inside these populations. Descriptive study would authorize to compute the amount of persons infected through WNV during a time period. This might authorize a sequence of propositions to be built as regards determinants of WNV and consequences of WNV on populace. (4. The epidemiological approach to investigating disease problems) What is the significance to your local community and the state community in relation to the disease? WNV can result in intricate infection. WNV has spread as a cyclic plague into North America. WNV signifies a mosquito borne virus which spread in birds. Mosquitoes are generally wandered in the space and usually bite humans and animals. Therefore, WNV can be spread straightforwardly and cause complex infections. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. The Doctrine Of The Trinity The word Trinity cannot be found in the bible, but neither can omnipresent or omniscient; yet they all describe the Biblical expression of who God is and how he is revealed to humanity. Furthermore, the doctrine of the Trinity is so crucial to Christianity, that if it was removed Christianity would crumble and fall into cult status. Even through the doctrine of the Trinitytook almost a three hundred to be formally stated at the Council of Nicea (325) and the Council of Constantople (381);1 Roger Olsen points out that all one has to do is read second and third century church fathers such as Athenagoras, Tertullian, Irenaeus, Origen or Cyprian to see immediately that Christians believed in the Trinity long before Constantine called all the Christian bishops to the first ecumenical council at Nicea in 325. 2 Thereby, this makes the doctrine of the Trinity part of the Great Tradition of Christian Belief for almost 2000 years.3 Specifically; the Trinity is God who is three distinct entities Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Neither is elevated above the other, rather they exist in perfect unity. The evidence supporting the Trinity can been seen clearly in Scripture, has been affirmed by all branches of Christianity and deeply contrasts all other concepts, such as modalism, Arianism and tritheism. First of all, the clearest display of the Trinity, in the Bible is in the baptism of Christ. The three synoptic Gospel writers, Matthew, Mark and Luke, all point to Jesus being in the ... • 54. Determination of Redusing Sugar Using Dns Method 1.0ABSTRACT The production of reducing sugars by acid of carbohydrate cereals powder, jams (total sugar content) and jams (reducing sugar content) were performed in order to study reducing sugar production. The study involved hydrolysis carbohydrate cereals powder and jams by immersing in boiling water at environmental temperature. Acid hydrolysis was carried out through reflux boiling for 20 minutes with 10ml 0f 1.5M concentrations of diluted sulphuric acid. Reducing sugars concentrations were determined by spectrophotometry using the 3, 5 dinitrosalicylic acid (DNS) method. The first sample was operated as blank for zero. The stock solution was prepared in order to find the unknown concentration of carbohydratecereals... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The above reaction scheme shows that one mole of sugar will react with one mole of 3,5 dinitrosalicylic acid. However, it is suspected that there are many side reactions, and the actual reaction stoichiometry is more complicated than that previously described. The type of side reaction depends on the exact nature of the reducing sugars. Different reducing sugars generally yield different color intensities; thus, it is necessary to calibrate for each sugar. In addition to the oxidation of the carbonyl groups in the sugar, other side reactions such as the decomposition of sugar also compete for the availability of 3,5 dinitrosalicylic acid(http: //www.ehow.com/about_5244996_general use dinitrosalicylic acid.html). As a consequence, carboxymethyl cellulose can affect the calibration curve by enhancing the intensity of the developed color. Although this is a convenient and relatively inexpensive method, due to the relatively low specificity, one must run blanks diligently if the colorimetric results are to be interpreted ...
