Fe Analysis And Precast Frame Systems
CHAPTER 5
FE ANALYSIS OF CAST IN SITU AND PRECAST FRAME SYSTEMS
5.1 Preamble
The response of structural systems depends on the rigidity of the connections and this knowledge
becomes very important to understand the influence of connections on the load path under both lateral
and vertical loads. Precast buildings with skeletal frames system may have different forms based on
the types of joint and their position as indicated in the Table 1 1. The structural joints can be idealized
as either hinged or fixed and be either precast or formed at site. The performance of the precast frame
systems identified as type 3, 6, 7 and 8 in Table 1 1, and subjected to lateral and gravity loads are
compared with the cast in situ frame systems. The performance of building is evaluated in terms of
displacements, bending moment, storey drifts and storey shear for different load cases analysis for the
following frame configurations.
5.2 Frame Configuration
Analysis of a G+3 storey building is carried out using STAAD PRO software. With the geometric
dimensions as: 18.0m x 12.0m x 12.0m. Each storey has the floor height as 3.0 m.

The Structure Of The American Family Structures
The understanding of the Diverse Family Structures is important as the structure of the American
family grows and changes. To be an effective teacher you need to understand your students and their
family structure. Some reach I did on this to become more equipped in understanding the family
structure while teaching diversity The Many Kinds of Families in Our Communities by Julie Edwards
describes the many different types of family structures and a brief description of each one. The next
article in my research by Lin, Lake Rice comes from the Teacher Education Quarterly titled Building
Relationships Between Teachers and Diverse Families. This article is very helpful as it brings
teachers, students and parents together to discuss teaching diversity and understanding diverse family
structures. The article Anti Bias Curriculum by Vanessa Rasussen Describes teaching an anti bias
curriculum provides children with strategies for improving their social conditions with understanding
of social problems such as culture, language, race, gender and economic class. The article from
NAEYC Reflections from Teachers of Culturally Diverse Children gives teachers suggestion in
developing cultural competence in different areas of diversity. Lastly, Implementing an Anti Bias
Curriculum in Early Child Hood Classrooms. ERIC Digest discusses bias and cultural differences and
how to incorporate curriculum development in a multicultural classroom environment. Although the

Keirsey Temperament Test Analysis
Filling out bubbles, circling answers, rating descriptions; taking tests is one of the various ways to
learn about yourself. According to science, the Keirsey Temperament Test should be one of the the
most correct personality tests crafted. After taking three various personality tests in my English class,
the True Colors, the Keirsey, and the Tibetan test, I surmised that the Keirsey Temperament Test was
the most exact regarding my character and attributes. It was especially valid in extrapolating that I am
very dependable, thorough, and serious. Some may claim that science cannot tell you who you are,
because it is our emotions that rein us. Overall, though the other tests were somewhat precise; this one
most reflected my personality.
Firstly, this test was correct because it stated that I persevere and am a dependable person. Last year,
for example, I was put in charge of choir quite often since I prefer to stay on task and people trust me.
One day I actually lead and taught the choir class, because the substitute never showed up. I was also

A certain Tibetan test that I took was correct on certain aspects of myself. It told me that I think of
myself as intelligent and that one of my best friends is a true friend. Those were both true, while it
also said that I value pride above all else and my career is one of the things I care less about in life.
This was incorrect for I value my career highly and do not value pride above other things. Another test
that we also took said many things that were correct to a certain degree, such as that I am logical and
like to be challenged. This test was in fact very correct about myself. I thought the Keirsey Test was
better, because it gave more data on myself, as well as a better description and elaboration. These were
all very good tests in their own right, but for myself the Keirsey was the most exact and

Haiti Case Study
On 12 January 2010 Haiti s capital city, Port au Prince, was rocked by a 7.0 earthquake. Being that it
is an island with minimal internal support, they have to rely on external sources in the world for help
and rebuilding their own infrastructure. While there are numerous governmental and non
governmental organizations to assist, no one is better equipped for immediate worldwide response
than the United States Army. We ll look at the equipment the U.S Army had available and how they
employed these assets to help the Haitian s. G Company, 407 Brigade Support Battalion was the
Forward Support Company (FSC) called to the task of humanitarian aid for the Haitian people. At any
time, the FSC usually had around 14 vehicles on the ground ranging from high mobility multi wheeled
vehicles (HMMWV s) to wreckers and fuelers. The primary use of these vehicles was transportation
of goods and services from transport aircraft of boats to provide assistance for feeding the local
populace and rebuilding the crippled infrastructure. The FSC did not have its own ambulance or
hospital teams so the vehicles were also used to transport Haitian s to the hospital in Port au Prince or
to the ocean port to be transported to the USS Comfort for medical treatment. The Disaster Medical
Assistance Team (DMAT) from Dayton, Ohio was also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The U.S Military had to deploy in joined forces including the Army and Navy, if not other forces with
them. They had to work together with other organizations of medical and construction to help the
Haitian people rebuild their infrastructure, as well as their lives. Many lives were saved in the process
of providing relief. In a time when the U.S. Military is by and large war weary, we can also look at
these sustainment operation successes as encouragement that we don t just bring war and death to a
country s doorstep, but relief and hope as

Summary Statement. In The 19Th Century, The Government
Summary Statement
In the 19th Century, The Government of Canada opened the first institution in 1876, for people with
developmental disability just outside of Orillia. The facility had 2,600 residents by the year, 1968.
The number of institutions and the residents were growing continually in the early 1970s. By 1976,
after the Developmental Services Act was passed, 16 institutions were operated by the Government of
Ontario. More than 10,000 people with developmental disability received the necessary care.
After someone moves from an institutional setting into the community, they will face many
challenges. Our non profit foundation, the Morris Transitional House, will be the beginning for the
Transitional House for the Disabled. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They should have the choice to be treated in the comfort of their own home.
There are many barriers that make it hard to solve the problem and it is all because of insufficient
funding for programs. In Ontario, the average hourly rate for non medical home support, which
includes companionship and personal assistance, is $20 to $30. The clients that require nursing visits
or therapy cost about $50 $60.
Another problem is when some individuals with or without disability do not qualify for Social
Security or In home care Services. When this occurs, those people would have to remain in the
nursing home because there is no one who can help care for them.
We believe what we are proposing is going to make a difference because:
1. There s a need for programs for people with disabilities who do not need to be in an institution and
these programs had not been established.
2. It will expand on In home Care Services.
3. This program will help eliminate the client s state of oppression.
4. It will help them to be independent and have control of their lives.
Goals and Objectives
Our goal is to enable and help clients to move out of an institution and provides them with education
and training. The agency will have one house to start that holds a maximum of six clients. We ll offer
classes that will help clients with personal skills and provide hands on activities for them.

Walmart Corporate Greed
General Motors, Ford, Nike, Boeing, Walmart. What do all these companies have in common? Your
parents are paying them millions of dollars each year through the government. To this day we continue
to see major corporations avoid paying their taxes through loopholes such as tax havens. Some of the
most well known companies to you and your families, Walmart and McDonald s, have taken your tax
money from the government because they pay their employees so little that they cannot afford any
social services. And the big banks of Wall Street are getting bigger and bigger each day, so big that a
collapse would destroy our economy. We are the ones paying for the corporate greed and the rich are

An article from The Chicago Reporter discussed the implications of this issue. Low wage employers
put a burden on taxpayers, who pick up the cost of health care, food and housing assistance for their
workforce (Black, 2015). Not only is this driving down the consumer demand, but it is driving
families of the workers down below the poverty line and onto the streets, while the rich are getting
richer. It is not our responsibility to pay for the workers social benefits through our tax money. It is the
responsibility of the mega corporations who refuse to pay their workers a living wage to give these
rights to their workers. Legislation such as the Cook County Responsibility Business Act will work to
force these employers to give in through a raise in the amount they must pay their workers so that they
can afford the most essential social programs. But this is not enough. We need to raise the minimum
wage of all low income workers in America if we want to lessen the great disparity of wealth in this
country. The ugly truth is, a large number of these corporations choose increasing their profits over the
conditions of their employees as long as the government turns a blind eye to the

A Good Time and A Good Idea to Enter the Credit Rating Business
Jules Kroll is planning to enter into the ratings industry. To determine whether it is a good idea and a
good time for him to enter into the new business, we project the 5 year NPV for KBRA and apply
SWOT analysis to KBRA. The 5 year projected NPV is $341.1 million, a positive number. It is a good
time and a good idea for KBRA to enter the business. However, through our SWOT analysis, it would
be difficult for KBRA to become competitive in a short time. Thus we suggest it add a credit rating
division into the company to make attempts to it but not start up a ... Show more content on

Also, without revenues from users of ratings, it will be tougher to finance startup costs and future
operating.
Beside internal factors, we examine the external factors, Opportunities and Threats, of KBRA. The
incumbent credit raters fail in the financial crisis gave an opportunity for new rating agencies like
KBRA. After the financial crisis, the government and the investors realized the importance of
appropriate corporate credit rating. The government might tend to subsidize newly established rating
organizations and create new regulations for credit rating in order to eliminate the oligopoly of three
big financial agencies. KBRA benefits from such environment. Also, it is easier for small or new
rating agencies like KBRA to apply a new revenue model under revised regulations.
After the financial crisis, many new rating agencies announced their entry into the credit rating
business. Many of them were prominent to the public and owned a great quantity of resource. The
entering of new firms made the credit rating industry competitive and thus posed a threat on KBRA.
The Failures of Incumbent Credit Raters
The incumbent credit raters had received severe criticism following the collapse in creditworthiness
and prices of mortgage and asset backed securities during the financial crisis in 2008 and 2009. The
three large rating agencies were accused of facilitating a vast bubble in these securities by issuing

Family Night Reflection
On Saturday October 28th, 2017 the St.Mary s Syrian Orthodox Church of Washington D.C. hosted
their yearly Family Night event. This event was created by the members of the church in order to
spread awareness of the talent and overall culture of our community. Although there was a slight delay
for the event, the performances throughout was very entertaining and informative. It ranged from
dances, songs, to speeches and minor lectures about growing issues in our society today. It started off
with many of the youth showing off their talent mainly through art forms such as singing and dancing
to cultural and religious songs. I myself assisted with the emcees of the night and partook in the event
by acting as Jesus for a skit and submitting a short film alongside friends that underscored the
situation of how a Grandmother from India would interpret the lifestyle in America. The special talent
of all our youth closed with a young boy performing his magic act that wow d the crowd. After the
acts, the remainder of Family Night included a series of speeches and lectures from our Priest to other
older youth members that discussed growing issues in the world and how we can act to resolve these
issues.

From now on we must be more careful who we hire, the second one said. Emmanuel watched them

tidal wave of flames. His body wrenched in the mud pool, yet he received no relief from the third
degree burns. Charred flesh dangled in shreds likened to a rotten piece of fabric long discarded. His
screams matched those others who shared in a foretaste of suffering promised in eternal damnation.

Nanocrystalline Materials Lab Report
Photophysical Properties of Nanocrystalline Materials
Allison Bray, Harsha Rao, David Sanchez
Abstract:
Introduction: Nanoparticles are widely researched because of their size dependent properties that
progressively differ from their bulk formations. Nano, meaning these particles are measured to be
~100 nm or less, are structures where the majority of the atoms are located at the surface of the
particle. This gives nanoparticles a high surface area to volume ratio. In comparison to their bulk
counterparts, when materials are in the nano scale, the physical and chemical properties of these
different materials tend to stray from the norm. These changes allow nanoparticles to be effective in
several fields of science and engineering based research, for example, chemical catalysis. These size
dependent properties will be analyzed through three experiments: (1) absorption and fluorescence
emmission of CdSe nanocrystals, (2) Plasmon resonance of metal nanocrystals, and (3) Raman
scattering and surface enhanced Raman scattering.
Nanoparticle orbitals embody valence bands(bonding) and conduction bands(anti bonding), where the
space between these two bands is known as the Bohr Exciton Radius. Depending on the number of
molecules in the nanocrystal, this will determine the distance between the valence and conduction
bands. As the size of the nanocrystal decreases the band gap inherently increases. This development is
due to the process of when the nanocrystal decreases in size

Beach Marine Sediments
Marine Sediments are the particles of organic or inorganic matter that accumulates in a loose,
unconsolidated form. After the continuous raining of sediments, the deep floors have varied from
centimeters of thickness per year. When we think of sediment, we think have erosion of minerals that
were once on land, remains of living organisms, and chemical reactions that associate with the ocean
(terrigenous, biogenic, hydrogenous, and cosmogenic ). This process has helped determine the age of
the seafloor and what it may be in the future. Sediments are like the memory of the ocean, due to the
recycled tectonic plates, only dates back to 180 million years ago. Although the ocean cannot reveal
its early history, sufficient evidence has allowed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, one could find this sand on our near by beaches such as Newport. There are other sand
types such as coral sand, where could primarily be found in the shore of Oahu, Hawaii. White sandy
beaches could also consist of limestone and other types of coral as well. Now in reference to how each
of these kinds of beaches does not have the same sand type, is due to the fact that areas are
geologically different. Newport beach is located on the edge of the pacific plate, right along the North
American, where we find all types of terrain and activity. We can assume that we have an average
amount of rainfall, wild fires here and there, and all types of natural sediment that find its way to the
ocean. When we compare this to the island of Hawaii, we find that its approximately located in the
middle of the pacific, has more of tropical type weather and has lots of volcanoes. Now each area of
the world varies and ultimately this decides what kind of water temp there will be, what kind of terrain
and what types of sea life it will harbor. This is how many beaches around are different Its not because
of the formation of which the ocean was made or how

My I Wish You d Die

I whispered on the night of July 22, 2013. I laid in bed thinking about my, unfortunately, biological

and I couldn t stand it no longer.
I looked at the clock and it ticked slowly, it seemed to be more tired than I was. A second seemed like

The Importance Of Creativity Within Classroom Instruction...
This article helped me to understand the importance of including creativity within classroom
instruction and the author did an excellent job at describing one way to do so. The author was all
about using the inquiry based learning. The author explained this type of learning in a way that I could
see myself using it within my classroom. Although the author is an advocate for using inquiry learning
within science classes I could see myself using this type of learning within other areas of instruction as
well. If I would use inquiry based learning within language arts or math it would still encourage
creativity because the students would still be taking responsibility for their own learning.
Additionally, this article explains in detail the history and use for standardized testing. The idea of
these tests have hindered the use of creativity within the classrooms a substantial amount. The author
argues that this is a great problem within today s education because the teachers are no longer
including creative instruction but rather the teachers are teaching to the test to the students score high
because teacher s jobs are at risk if students do not show great growth within the achievement gap.
This is why the author suggests teaching with an inquiry approach. By using an inquiry approach
within the classroom the teacher can still include preparation for the standardized tests but the students
are still being creative with their findings and problem solving more on their own. The

Then, which leads into our more long term recommendation, the strong firms in the industry tend to
continue rising at a more steady and pro cyclical rate. Zynga has a particularly strong business model
that may be unseen by most investors. These reasons are that they, unlike many app based startups, do
not solely rely on advertising and banner ad revenue. While this makes up a substantial revenue
stream, they derive the majority of their profits from the sale of digital assets which incur little to no
variable costs. Also, Zynga s strength is, in part, tied to the strength of Facebook. Though many
people disagree with the immensity of Facebook s valuation, few would disagree with the fact that it is
one of the strongest, fastest growing companies. Farmville, one of Zynga s staple products, is and has
been tied to facebook since its inception. The relationship has proven mutually beneficial for both
parties and so Zynga would probably have the chance to feature another game on Facebook. If this
happens around the time that Facebook goes public, (if it ever does), then Zynga s stock should see
rapid and significant growth. A major drop off in a recent valuation has come at the realization that
many of the games Zynga has are, faddy . This means that people love them for a small window of

The Overcoat And The Metamorphosis
Essay 2 The Overcoat and The Metamorphosis On one hand, Gogol discusses the seemingly
meaningless life and death of a government employee in 19th century Russia as he purchases and
loses an overcoat, while on the other Kafka s protagonist deals with surrealism as he attempts to adapt
to his mysteriously transformed body. However, both authors use their protagonists personalities and
their relationships with the people around them to portray how their economic situations shape their
lives. More specifically, both Gogol and Kafka argue that money provides the characters with
confidence, power, and masculinity. By examining Akaky s transformation as he purchases his new
overcoat, how Gregor makes decisions as a human, and how both characters treat fictional women,
one can see that examining these two stories together allows one to see how the above characteristic
traits pervade all aspects of life. Throughout both texts, both Kafka and Gogol strive to portray how
money influences their characters personal traits. Gogol employs Akaky s social life to clarify how
Akaky s confidence directly correlates to the amount of money he has. For example, when examining
Akaky s demeanor before and after he owns the overcoat, one will notice a significant change in the
way Akaky presents himself. Before purchasing the overcoat, Akaky stutters when speaking, unsure of
how to present himself and articulate his desires. However, when Akaky begins saving his money and

Advertising Must Change Long-Term Memory

developed: ads with higher affective content would have higher recognition and recall, and subjects
treated with [beta] blockers (Propranolol), which interact with those brain regions known to mediate

tested and broadly supported. This exploratory research, taken in conjunction with previous work,
indicates some ways in which affect enhances advertising effectiveness. We conclude with directions

How that memory change is achieved, and how to measure it, are less understood. Advertisers have
long used recognition and recall measures though they have been challenged (Gibson, 1983; Lodish et
al., 1995; Percy and Rossiter, 1997). The mainstream of advertising research rests on cognition as the
primary factor of memory change. Advertising has been thought to need a unique selling proposition,
new news, a logical association, or to remind consumers of memories already in place. The smaller
and more recent stream focuses on affect, such as liking the ad (Biel, 1990; Haley and Baldinger,

Triump in The Scarlett Letter by Nathiel Hawthorne
The triumph of an individual against all odds has been a popular trope for all forms of story telling
throughout history. Surrounding these triumphant (or sometimes not) heroes are conflicts that can be
categorized into some of the following: man versus man, man versus himself, man versus nature, and
man versus society. The conflict between an individual and society is common in American literature
due to the qualities of a typical American hero; they often run on their own set of morals and do not fit
into their society. However by going through this struggle, characters are able to grow and develop.
The varying reaction amongst characters fighting against their society help authors show important
character developments as well as provide more insight to their true personalities. In The Scarlet
Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne highlights the empowerment of women in society by having Hester
Prynne as his protagonist. Hester is jailed and practically exiled from her town after she is discovered
to have committed adultery. She refuses to reveal her paramour and has to raise her daughter, Pearl, by
herself under the scrutiny of town officials. In addition to time in jail, the town makes Hester wear a
scarlet letter, which serves as a physical brand that separates her from society. There is a stark contrast
between the ornate letter and her otherwise plain clothing. Though the color red is associated with her
sin, it also represents Hester s passion and love. Hester s love for

Discretion In Police Discretion
According to Dempsey et al (2016), Discretion means the availability of a choice of options or actions
one can take in a situation (p. 142).
An example of when police discretion was not used in a controlled and regulated manner was when
Mr. Samuel Dubose was shot and killed on July 19, 2015, over his front license plate missing on the
vehicle he was driving. Mr. Dubose was driving just south of University of Cincinnati around 6:30
p.m. when Officer Tensing began following him (Capehart, 2015). The university police share
jurisdiction with city officers on streets around the campus (Capehart, 2015). However, where the
driver was pulled over and killed at was outside of the shared jurisdiction. According to Capehart
(2015), The University of Cincinnati police officer Ray Tensing lied about the events leading up to the
shooting and the officer s body worn camera exposed the truth of what really happened that day. In the
video, the officer is asking Mr. Dubose repeatedly for his driver s license . Mr. Dubose replies that he
has a driver s license but does not have it with him. Mr. Dubose also states that the missing license
plate is in the glove box. Officer Tensing asks, What s that bottle on the floor? Mr. Dubose reaches
down, picks up the bottle of gin and gives it to the officer (Capehart, 2015). The officer starts to open
the driver s door and tells Mr. Dubose to remove his safety belt; Mr. Dubose pulls the door closed and
restarts his car. The officer steps to his

Animal Miserable Rhetorical Analysis
Language is powerful and can evoke guilt, fear, admiration, and joy. At times, however, emotional
language has a negative effect when the author uses words that seem to disrespect or guilt the
audience. In Gary Steiner s essay Animal, Vegetable, Miserable, Steiner debates that veganism is the
only acceptable lifestyle because it does not endanger the lives of animals. Although Steiner clearly
explains his firm stance, he uses a disdainful tone when relating personal struggles that ultimately
disconnects the audience. Steiner does not relate and does not effectively prove veganism would end
all animal suffering. Instead of discussing the advantages of veganism in an objective manner, Steiner
s tone comes across as arrogant and fails to create ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All it ever had was a short and miserable life, thanks to us intelligent, compassionate humans (198).
He implies humans are the cause of all animal suffering, but this statement might not always be true.
Steiner s use of emotional language easily creates guilt in the audience s minds. However, will
needless guilt solve these problems? While Steiner s argument may be powerful and passionate,
ultimately it is ineffective. Guilt can only change so much; focusing solely on influencing emotion

Public Art Essay
Public Art Any drawn line that speaks about identity, dignity, and unity is art, (Chaz Bojorquey) is a
statement that I agree with. Art is perceived differently from all people based on their culture, religion,
personal taste, and many other factors. I believe that as long as what has been created is meaningful to
either the creator or even to somebody that is viewing it, it should be considered art. Art in the public
is a very controversial subject that brings up the important question of, Should public art be
considered as real art, personally I think that it should be. I believe that the difference between art that
is placed in a gallery and art that is visible by a community is the fact that what is acceptable in a
gallery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another possibly positive outcome of art in the public could be the affect that it may have on the
younger generations. If children are being raised in a community where they can see art on a daily
basis then I believe it will have a positive effect on their lives by allowing them to learn how to
appreciate art and what it has to offer. Art being in the public is also a way to grant people, who do not
have enough money to enjoy the luxury of going to a gallery, the pleasure of seeing something
aesthetically appealing on a regular basis. It also makes a town more interesting to visit; no one wants
to visit a town with not much excitement. I once went to an art festival in Baltimore, Maryland, where
they had green marbles ground up and put into the black top roads. This sight alone made my heart
race and made this town more exciting. For towns that may have tourism it could be a way to attract to
coming there or maybe even staying. Art can also be a controversial at the same time. There are many
people who express their idea of art in a way that, in my opinion, should not be seen by the public. For
example, many people consider paintings of naked women to be art, as do I, but I do not think it is
appropriate for a painting of that nature to become a piece of public art. Another example is people
who use profanity in their art. Swearing is not appropriate for a child to see painted on the side of their
neighborhood buildings. The thing

The s Confessions By Augustine Dismisses The Aeneid
In the first book of his Confessions, Augustine dismisses the Aeneid, describing it merely as depicting
the wanderings of some legendary fellow named Aeneas (Conf. 1.20). However, this is not the only
thing that he dismisses throughout the text. Augustine also rejects other culturally significant texts and
the work of both himself and others in his life. While he does admit there are positive lessons to learn
from each of these pursuits, Augustine argues the only texts or professions that matter are those that
bring an individual closer to God, specifically by mentioning Him and His teachings. Throughout
Confessions, Augustine, in retrospect, rejects many of the texts he came across in his life. He first
exhibits this when he describes how wrong it was to have reacted emotionally to the Aeneid. He wept
over Dido, who died pursuing her ultimate end with a sword (Conf. 1.21), while at the same time he
failed to realize he was dying by [his] alienation from [God] (Conf. 1.20). Here Augustine laments the
fact he wept over Dido s death while at the same time worsened his own condition by ignoring God
and his own sinfulness. He is highly critical of himself in the way he approached the Aeneid as a child,
describing himself as having abandoned [God] to pursue the lowest things of [God s] creation (Conf.
1.21). Because the Aeneid leads Augustine further away from God it cannot have any significance in
one s life. The Aeneid is not the only text Augustine disregards in

China s Economic Reforms Increase The Economic Output
China s 1970 economic reforms boosted the economic output by 11.4% on a yearly basis. The reforms
gave authority to the provinces and enabled the market oriented public enterprises. The economic
gains were so great that they accounted for about 33% of the national GDP. Prosperity seemed
imminent since the 1970s, but little did the people know that they were on the path that would place
them as the world s most polluted countries and the worlds largest greenhouse gas emitter.
China is experiencing an alarming decrease in air quality. In the first 3 months of 2015, about 90% of
the cities in China failed to meet the national air quality requirement. Beijing, surrounded by the
heavily industrialized province of Hebei, is one of the most polluted cities in China and is followed by
the cities Baoding, Xingtai, Shijiazhuang, Tangshan, Handan and Hengshui. The smog in Beijing has
forced schools to build domes with air filters over recreational sections so that students can play sports
without having to inhale the dangerous components in the smog. The recommended safe air quality
index level is 25, but that index is rarely met given that levels over 250 are reached in Beijing; young
children are not allowed to play outdoors at levels above 200, and older children are to remain indoors
when the levels reach above 250. People are getting in the habit of wearing air filter masks to decrease
their exposure to polluted air, but pollution is now threatening water quality no mask can fix

How Electricity Is Produced By Using Coal
These days, most of us tend to take electricity for granted. If one were to be asked where it comes
from, you would most likely get responses from all over, with a common response being, Out of the
sockets in the wall! In this paper I will be giving a very brief overview of how electricity is produced,
specifically from coal.
Generating electricity requires a fuel source, and the fuel source for both EKP and DP L is coal. About
60% of the electricity nationwide is produced by using coal. Coal arrives mainly by a barge, but also
by rail and truck. Barges typically deliver around 1,500 tons of coal, which is enough to keep a plant
running for a couple of hours. A plant uses around 21,000 tons of coal each day, so over 1,000,000
tons of coal is stockpiled next to the plant. A device called a stacker reclaimer scoops coal onto a
quarter mile long conveyor that can transport up to 900 tons of coal into the plant each hour. Once
inside the plant, up to a thirty hour supply of coal can be stored in bunkers. Coal moves from the
bunkers to feeders to be measured and moved to pulverizers. Coal enters the pulverizer and spins in a
large drum where hundreds of steel balls grind it into a fine powder. Now a fine powder, the coal
leaves the pulverizers and heads to the boiler. About 335 tons of coal can be pulverized per hour.
Large fans add warm air to the powdery coal and blow it into the boiler. The boiler has miles of tubes
filled with high quality water. Once

conveys the importance of home and country to indigenous peoples. The director Phillip Noyce refers
to home in different ways. He has symbolised home by repeatedly showing images of the Spirit Bird
and the Rabbit Proof Fence, since it is a connection to their home. The movie shows Molly s
determination to get home and back to her family by escaping from Moore River and finding her way
back home to her country, Jigalong. At the beginning of the film, it is shown how Molly s family hunt

In this film, it also shows how important their loved ones are to them. Like when the three girls get
taken away, they used their hands to bang against the window, showing their sadness of separation,
and their connection of their love and wanting to be close with their family at every time possible,
because every time they were together was a moment each treasured. Their grandmother felt the pain
they were feeling, of desperation, frustration and powerlessness, and that is shown to us when she hits
herself with a rock on her head to make her bleed. Also the howling sounds she makes shows the pain
she feels and makes us feel her pain, too. Home shows the familiarities that no other place shows. In
your own country or home, you live by your own rules. Molly, Gracie and Daisy were happier when
they got home, since it was somewhere where they were loved, and since it was a place that gave them
a sense of safety, knowing they were home with the people they loved and a place they were familiar
with. Getting home was like an emotional reunion for the girls, touching and crying and at the same
time Molly s distress because Gracie was taken away. I lost one. My views on this heart moving film
would be never to give up in life, and with the right amount of determination you can succeed
anything. The film tells us the simple, but moving story with a skilled storyteller s voice. The great

Sacrifice In Duty, Humility, And Tax

sacrifice that provide a different feeling each time someone sacrifices in a different way. Although one
must know the proper time to sacrifice something without expecting to be rewarded.
There are many types of different sacrifices that one must learn about in order to achieve a feeling of
accomplishment each time one gives something up. For example duty, humility, and tax are all
different types of sacrifice. When you must give up your free time in order to get something done this
is considered duty sacrifice. Duty sacrifice is the most common because it occurs on a daily basis and
increases with age. For instance, doing homework rather than going to the movies with friends or
going to work on someones birthday. Then there is the sacrifice of humility, this is giving up your
pride in order to achieve something. An example of this would be choosing a peers idea over your own
in a group project. This kind of sacrifice is not common yet it still occurs. Lastly there is tax sacrifice
which is paying money in order to purchase something that is necessary . This could be paying a bill

Essay The Corruption Scandal of the European Commission
Abstract: The Corruption Scandal of the European Commission and its possible effects on the
institutional balance and the question of legitimacy
I. Defining Corruption
The first chapter is an attempt to define corruption. It is important to divide overlapping and
complicated terms such as corruption, scandal and fraud. Corruption is defined as an illegal
transaction, where both actors benefit from their special position in the market or the government.
Scandal is the public reaction to allegations of corruption and thus it is interconnected with the issue
of legitimacy. Fraud, however is a purely criminal cathegory.

In the northern part of the continent there is more emphasis on the notions of incompatibility and the
conflict of interest. There are problems however around the financing of political parties.
II. The Organization of the European Commission
The Commission is at thte heart of the Union. It has a very important role in formulating policies,
initiating legislation, overseeing implementation, make administrative decisions.
The Commission had a great impact on the poltics of the Communities from the earliest times. The
ambitions of the Commission to gain more influence in European decision making caused frequent
conflict with the Council of Ministers, which saw the strengthening of the supranational Commission
as a main threat to the souvereignity of the member states. This conflict was accentuated at the
Luxembourg crisis in 1965, which was the greatest institutional crisis of the Community. The crisis
was caused by De Gaulle`s resistance of the Commission`s proposal of introducing majority voting in
the Council instead of unanimity. The French President paralysed the working of the Community by
practicing the quot;empty chair quot; politics, boykotting the Council of Ministers. The crisis was
solved by he Luxembourg compromise, which kept the veto of the member states.
The first sign of corruption in the Commission was the 1979 report of the Court of Auditors, which
accused the commissioners of using the community funds for private purposes and scrunitized the

The Blogging Industry and Its Revenue Models
The blogging industry has a unique structure. Blogging software, such as TypePad, WordPress or
Blogger (Google) typically does not generate its own revenue. WordPress is open source but sells
advertising and has private feature options for pay, TypePad is a paid subscription service, and
Blogger is usually free but provides a platform for Google to sell advertising space via their AdSense
software (Zibreg, 2009). Tumblr appears to rely on financing rather than income at the moment, not
having a sophisticated revenue generation model. Thus, four major firms all have different revenue
models. This creates a unique internal dynamic in the industry, where all players pursue bloggers to
use their platforms but all seek to monetize this traffic in different ways.
The external environment of the blogging industry is generally positive. The industry is rapidly
growing, with all three major blogging platforms among the leading websites in the world by traffic
volume. Blogspot.com (Blogger) is ranked #8 by Alexa, WordPress #18, Tumblr # 37, Blogger.com
#44 and TypePad #250 (Alexa.com, 2012). With this strength has come a shift in the way that blogs
are used. Today, the emphasis in the blogging industry is on corporate blogs that can attract eyeballs
and gain hits for client websites (Singha, 2011). Corporations employ professional content writers to
manage their blogs, whereas blogging in the beginning was a more organic, consumer driven function
(Ibid). This shift provides more

International Differences Of Well Being
As I continued my research, Ruut Veenhoven stated this question in Chapter 11 of the book
International Differences of Well Being the discussions centers on whether happiness is similar for all
humans or rather something that varies across cultures (328). This question interests me, because it is
a question that I think is very important. We all have a wide range of different priorities and values.
First, he chooses to define happiness: I use the word happiness for a subjective state of mind, which I
define as the overall appreciation of one s life as a whole. Happiness is the sum of pleasures and pains
. Happiness in this sense is synonymous with life satisfaction and subjective well being (Veenhoven
329). Veenhoven, then, breaks up the questions How universal is happiness into sub questions because
it is too broad to answer. Veenhoven says that, although the mood is something we are aware of it is
mostly not in the foreground of our consciousness. It is still assessable, and we can estimate how well
we feel most of the time, unlike babies.
Overall, Veenhoven finds that the circumstances of being happy seem to be the same across the world
and so are the consequences of enjoying life or not (329). Veenhoven s use of surveys and statistics
makes his research believable to his audience. He shows that being happy is not complicated, and
most people know whether they are happy with life or not. I think if we looked at the specifics of what
made us happy,

Fe Analysis And Precast Frame Systems CHAPTER 5 FE ANALYSIS OF CAST IN SITU AND PRECAST FRAME SYSTEMS 5.1 Preamble The response of structural systems depends on the rigidity of the connections and this knowledge becomes very important to understand the influence of connections on the load path under both lateral and vertical loads. Precast buildings with skeletal frames system may have different forms based on the types of joint and their position as indicated in the Table 1 1. The structural joints can be idealized as either hinged or fixed and be either precast or formed at site. The performance of the precast frame systems identified as type 3, 6, 7 and 8 in Table 1 1, and subjected to lateral and gravity loads are compared with the cast in situ frame systems. The performance of building is evaluated in terms of displacements, bending moment, storey drifts and storey shear for different load cases analysis for the following frame configurations. 5.2 Frame Configuration Analysis of a G+3 storey building is carried out using STAAD PRO software. According to science, the Keirsey Temperament Test should be one of the the most correct personality tests crafted. After taking three various personality tests in my English class, the True Colors, the Keirsey, and the Tibetan test, I surmised that the Keirsey Temperament Test was the most exact regarding my character and attributes. It was especially valid in extrapolating that I am very dependable, thorough, and serious. Some may claim that science cannot tell you who you are, because it is our emotions that rein us. Overall, though the other tests were somewhat precise; this one most reflected my personality. Firstly, this test was correct because it stated that I persevere and am a dependable person. Last year, for example, I was put in charge of choir quite often since I prefer to stay on task and people trust me. One day I actually lead and taught the choir class, because the substitute never showed up. I was also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A certain Tibetan test that I took was correct on certain aspects of myself. It told me that I think of myself as intelligent and that one of my best friends is a true friend. Those were both true, while it also said that I value pride above all else and my career is one of the things I care less about in life. This was incorrect for I value my career highly and do not value pride above other things. Another test that we also took said many things that were correct to a certain degree, such as that I am logical and like to be challenged. This test was in fact very correct about myself. I thought the Keirsey Test was better, because it gave more data on myself, as well as a better description and elaboration. These were all very good tests in their own right, but for myself the Keirsey was the most exact and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Being that it is an island with minimal internal support, they have to rely on external sources in the world for help and rebuilding their own infrastructure. While there are numerous governmental and non governmental organizations to assist, no one is better equipped for immediate worldwide response than the United States Army. There s a need for programs for people with disabilities who do not need to be in an institution and these programs had not been established. 2. It will expand on In home Care Services. 3. This program will help eliminate the client s state of oppression. 4. It will help them to be independent and have control of their lives. Goals and Objectives Our goal is to enable and help clients to move out of an institution and provides them with education and training. The agency will have one house to start that holds a maximum of six clients. We ll offer classes that will help clients with personal skills and provide hands on activities for them. ... An article from The Chicago Reporter discussed the implications of this issue. Low wage employers put a burden on taxpayers, who pick up the cost of health care, food and housing assistance for their workforce (Black, 2015). Not only is this driving down the consumer demand, but it is driving families of the workers down below the poverty line and onto the streets, while the rich are getting richer. It is not our responsibility to pay for the workers social benefits through our tax money. It is the responsibility of the mega corporations who refuse to pay their workers a living wage to give these rights to their workers. Legislation such as the Cook County Responsibility Business Act will work to force these employers to give in through a raise in the amount they must pay their workers so that they can afford the most essential social programs. But this is not enough. We need to raise the minimum wage of all low income workers in America if we want to lessen the great disparity of wealth in this country. The ugly truth is, a large number of these corporations choose increasing their profits over the conditions of their employees as long as the government turns a blind eye to the ... Also, without revenues from users of ratings, it will be tougher to finance startup costs and future operating. Beside internal factors, we examine the external factors, Opportunities and Threats, of KBRA. The incumbent credit raters fail in the financial crisis gave an opportunity for new rating agencies like KBRA. After the financial crisis, the government and the investors realized the importance of appropriate corporate credit rating. The government might tend to subsidize newly established rating organizations and create new regulations for credit rating in order to eliminate the oligopoly of three big financial agencies. KBRA benefits from such environment. Also, it is easier for small or new rating agencies like KBRA to apply a new revenue model under revised regulations. After the financial crisis, many new rating agencies announced their entry into the credit rating business. Many of them were prominent to the public and owned a great quantity of resource. The entering of new firms made the credit rating industry competitive and thus posed a threat on KBRA. This event was created by the members of the church in order to spread awareness of the talent and overall culture of our community. Although there was a slight delay for the event, the performances throughout was very entertaining and informative. It ranged from dances, songs, to speeches and minor lectures about growing issues in our society today. It started off with many of the youth showing off their talent mainly through art forms such as singing and dancing to cultural and religious songs. I myself assisted with the emcees of the night and partook in the event by acting as Jesus for a skit and submitting a short film alongside friends that underscored the situation of how a Grandmother from India would interpret the lifestyle in America. The special talent of all our youth closed with a young boy performing his magic act that wow d the crowd. After the acts, the remainder of Family Night included a series of speeches and lectures from our Priest to other older youth members that discussed growing issues in the world and how we can act to resolve these issues. • 12. Nanocrystalline Materials Lab Report Photophysical Properties of Nanocrystalline Materials Allison Bray, Harsha Rao, David Sanchez Abstract: Introduction: Nanoparticles are widely researched because of their size dependent properties that progressively differ from their bulk formations. Nano, meaning these particles are measured to be ~100 nm or less, are structures where the majority of the atoms are located at the surface of the particle. This gives nanoparticles a high surface area to volume ratio. In comparison to their bulk counterparts, when materials are in the nano scale, the physical and chemical properties of these different materials tend to stray from the norm. These changes allow nanoparticles to be effective in several fields of science and engineering based research, for example, chemical catalysis. These size dependent properties will be analyzed through three experiments: (1) absorption and fluorescence emmission of CdSe nanocrystals, (2) Plasmon resonance of metal nanocrystals, and (3) Raman scattering and surface enhanced Raman scattering. Nanoparticle orbitals embody valence bands(bonding) and conduction bands(anti bonding), where the space between these two bands is known as the Bohr Exciton Radius. Depending on the number of molecules in the nanocrystal, this will determine the distance between the valence and conduction bands. As the size of the nanocrystal decreases the band gap inherently increases. This development is due to the process of when the nanocrystal decreases in size ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This process has helped determine the age of the seafloor and what it may be in the future. The author was all about using the inquiry based learning. The author explained this type of learning in a way that I could see myself using it within my classroom. Although the author is an advocate for using inquiry learning within science classes I could see myself using this type of learning within other areas of instruction as well. If I would use inquiry based learning within language arts or math it would still encourage creativity because the students would still be taking responsibility for their own learning. Additionally, this article explains in detail the history and use for standardized testing. The idea of these tests have hindered the use of creativity within the classrooms a substantial amount. The author argues that this is a great problem within today s education because the teachers are no longer including creative instruction but rather the teachers are teaching to the test to the students score high because teacher s jobs are at risk if students do not show great growth within the achievement gap. This is why the author suggests teaching with an inquiry approach. By using an inquiry approach within the classroom the teacher can still include preparation for the standardized tests but the students are still being creative with their findings and problem solving more on their own. While this makes up a substantial revenue stream, they derive the majority of their profits from the sale of digital assets which incur little to no variable costs. • 18. The Overcoat And The Metamorphosis Essay 2 The Overcoat and The Metamorphosis On one hand, Gogol discusses the seemingly meaningless life and death of a government employee in 19th century Russia as he purchases and loses an overcoat, while on the other Kafka s protagonist deals with surrealism as he attempts to adapt to his mysteriously transformed body. However, both authors use their protagonists personalities and their relationships with the people around them to portray how their economic situations shape their lives. More specifically, both Gogol and Kafka argue that money provides the characters with confidence, power, and masculinity. By examining Akaky s transformation as he purchases his new overcoat, how Gregor makes decisions as a human, and how both characters treat fictional women, one can see that examining these two stories together allows one to see how the above characteristic traits pervade all aspects of life. Throughout both texts, both Kafka and Gogol strive to portray how money influences their characters personal traits. Gogol employs Akaky s social life to clarify how Akaky s confidence directly correlates to the amount of money he has. For example, when examining Akaky s demeanor before and after he owns the overcoat, one will notice a significant change in the way Akaky presents himself. Before purchasing the overcoat, Akaky stutters when speaking, unsure of how to present himself and articulate his desires. However, when Akaky begins saving his money and purchases the ... The mainstream of advertising research rests on cognition as the primary factor of memory change. Advertising has been thought to need a unique selling proposition, new news, a logical association, or to remind consumers of memories already in place. The smaller and more recent stream focuses on affect, such as liking the ad (Biel, 1990; Haley and Baldinger, 1991; Joyce, 1991). Surrounding these triumphant (or sometimes not) heroes are conflicts that can be categorized into some of the following: man versus man, man versus himself, man versus nature, and man versus society. The conflict between an individual and society is common in American literature due to the qualities of a typical American hero; they often run on their own set of morals and do not fit into their society. However by going through this struggle, characters are able to grow and develop. The varying reaction amongst characters fighting against their society help authors show important character developments as well as provide more insight to their true personalities. In The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne highlights the empowerment of women in society by having Hester Prynne as his protagonist. Hester is jailed and practically exiled from her town after she is discovered to have committed adultery. She refuses to reveal her paramour and has to raise her daughter, Pearl, by herself under the scrutiny of town officials. In addition to time in jail, the town makes Hester wear a scarlet letter, which serves as a physical brand that separates her from society. The s Confessions By Augustine Dismisses The Aeneid In the first book of his Confessions, Augustine dismisses the Aeneid, describing it merely as depicting the wanderings of some legendary fellow named Aeneas (Conf. 1.20). However, this is not the only thing that he dismisses throughout the text. Augustine also rejects other culturally significant texts and the work of both himself and others in his life. While he does admit there are positive lessons to learn from each of these pursuits, Augustine argues the only texts or professions that matter are those that bring an individual closer to God, specifically by mentioning Him and His teachings. Throughout Confessions, Augustine, in retrospect, rejects many of the texts he came across in his life. He first exhibits this when he describes how wrong it was to have reacted emotionally to the Aeneid. He wept over Dido, who died pursuing her ultimate end with a sword (Conf. 1.21), while at the same time he failed to realize he was dying by [his] alienation from [God] (Conf. 1.20). Here Augustine laments the fact he wept over Dido s death while at the same time worsened his own condition by ignoring God and his own sinfulness. He is highly critical of himself in the way he approached the Aeneid as a child, describing himself as having abandoned [God] to pursue the lowest things of [God s] creation (Conf. 1.21). The rusted steel sword, though chipped, was sharp enough to cut through flesh and hide...same thing with the old dagger. John grimaced at the quality of his weapons...five gold coins...ten years of part time work...all gone and all he got was such shitty equipment. Nevertheless, shitty or not, they still provided some protection and attack power much better than what he had before. With a sigh, John quickly put the new equipment on and walked out of the ... • 29. How Electricity Is Produced By Using Coal These days, most of us tend to take electricity for granted. If one were to be asked where it comes from, you would most likely get responses from all over, with a common response being, Out of the sockets in the wall! In this paper I will be giving a very brief overview of how electricity is produced, specifically from coal. Generating electricity requires a fuel source, and the fuel source for both EKP and DP L is coal. About 60% of the electricity nationwide is produced by using coal. Coal arrives mainly by a barge, but also by rail and truck. Barges typically deliver around 1,500 tons of coal, which is enough to keep a plant running for a couple of hours. A plant uses around 21,000 tons of coal each day, so over 1,000,000 tons of coal is stockpiled next to the plant. A device called a stacker reclaimer scoops coal onto a quarter mile long conveyor that can transport up to 900 tons of coal into the plant each hour. Once inside the plant, up to a thirty hour supply of coal can be stored in bunkers. Coal moves from the bunkers to feeders to be measured and moved to pulverizers. Coal enters the pulverizer and spins in a large drum where hundreds of steel balls grind it into a fine powder. Now a fine powder, the coal leaves the pulverizers and heads to the boiler. About 335 tons of coal can be pulverized per hour. Large fans add warm air to the powdery coal and blow it into the boiler. The boiler has miles of tubes filled with high quality water. Once ... He has symbolised home by repeatedly showing images of the Spirit Bird and the Rabbit Proof Fence, since it is a connection to their home. In this film, it also shows how important their loved ones are to them. Like when the three girls get taken away, they used their hands to bang against the window, showing their sadness of separation, and their connection of their love and wanting to be close with their family at every time possible, because every time they were together was a moment each treasured. Their grandmother felt the pain they were feeling, of desperation, frustration and powerlessness, and that is shown to us when she hits herself with a rock on her head to make her bleed. Also the howling sounds she makes shows the pain she feels and makes us feel her pain, too. Home shows the familiarities that no other place shows. In your own country or home, you live by your own rules. Molly, Gracie and Daisy were happier when they got home, since it was somewhere where they were loved, and since it was a place that gave them a sense of safety, knowing they were home with the people they loved and a place they were familiar with. Getting home was like an emotional reunion for the girls, touching and crying and at the same time Molly s distress because Gracie was taken away. I lost one. My views on this heart moving film would be never to give up in life, and with the right amount of determination you can succeed anything. The film tells us the simple, but moving story with a skilled storyteller s voice. The great importance of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. The Blogging Industry and Its Revenue Models The blogging industry has a unique structure. Blogging software, such as TypePad, WordPress or Blogger (Google) typically does not generate its own revenue. WordPress is open source but sells advertising and has private feature options for pay, TypePad is a paid subscription service, and Blogger is usually free but provides a platform for Google to sell advertising space via their AdSense software (Zibreg, 2009). Tumblr appears to rely on financing rather than income at the moment, not having a sophisticated revenue generation model. Thus, four major firms all have different revenue models. This creates a unique internal dynamic in the industry, where all players pursue bloggers to use their platforms but all seek to monetize this traffic in different ways. The external environment of the blogging industry is generally positive. The industry is rapidly growing, with all three major blogging platforms among the leading websites in the world by traffic volume. Blogspot.com (Blogger) is ranked #8 by Alexa, WordPress #18, Tumblr # 37, Blogger.com #44 and TypePad #250 (Alexa.com, 2012). With this strength has come a shift in the way that blogs are used. Today, the emphasis in the blogging industry is on corporate blogs that can attract eyeballs and gain hits for client websites (Singha, 2011). Corporations employ professional content writers to manage their blogs, whereas blogging in the beginning was a more organic, consumer driven function (Ibid). This shift provides more ... • 40. International Differences Of Well Being As I continued my research, Ruut Veenhoven stated this question in Chapter 11 of the book International Differences of Well Being the discussions centers on whether happiness is similar for all humans or rather something that varies across cultures (328). This question interests me, because it is a question that I think is very important. We all have a wide range of different priorities and values. First, he chooses to define happiness: I use the word happiness for a subjective state of mind, which I define as the overall appreciation of one s life as a whole. Happiness is the sum of pleasures and pains . Happiness in this sense is synonymous with life satisfaction and subjective well being (Veenhoven 329). Veenhoven, then, breaks up the questions How universal is happiness into sub questions because it is too broad to answer. Veenhoven says that, although the mood is something we are aware of it is mostly not in the foreground of our consciousness. It is still assessable, and we can estimate how well we feel most of the time, unlike babies. Overall, Veenhoven finds that the circumstances of being happy seem to be the same across the world and so are the consequences of enjoying life or not (329). Veenhoven s use of surveys and statistics makes his research believable to his audience. He shows that being happy is not complicated, and most people know whether they are happy with life or not. I think if we looked at the specifics of what made us happy, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
