Inspector Calls Essay
What do you think is the importance of Inspector Goole and how does Priestley present him?
Inspector Goole creates a massive presence within An Inspector Calls and through him we are able
to explore each character and Priestly himself. The Inspector is a vital character within the play and
allows Priestly to channel through his thoughts, feelings and messages to society by creating the
seemingly omniscient Inspector Goole. In the essay I will illustrate the importance of the Inspector
and demonstrate how Priestly presents him.
The Inspector is the vehicle that helps us understand each characters personality and views, we see
this with Sheila once a naive young girl who seemed quite shallow to begin with becomes a
sympathetic and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, his name Goole infers and has connotations of ghoul which is an evil spirit therefore
indicating that he might not be human. Priestly uses a dramatic device of lighting change pink and
intimate to brighter and harder to really show how the Inspector is different to the others and this in
turn reflects his harsh personality and how the atmosphere changes so much when he s around
relating to his other world presence.
Mrs Birling is a character that is affected by the Inspector in a superficial way: she s more
bothered about what other people will think about her being involved than how she actually
helped kill a poor woman. We see the two contrasts of how Sheila reacts and how Mrs Birling
reacts which is effective as Priestly is able to demonstrate that the Inspector is like a conscience
of the family; like in the real world some people are able to ignore their conscience and not feel
bad whereas some people really feel their guilt when they have done something wrong. This
therefore is why the Inspector is so important in the play, and in his last speech he makes reference
to the World War1 and 2 and how people had still not learnt their lesson (used dramatic irony but
applies it to the Birling s situation) and sets it straight to them that if they have

Max Ernst, Johannes Hoch, Max Ernst And Johannes Baader
Dadaism came into the world to confuse all the peers that look upon the work of art each person
made to express themselves, this can be for emotion, reaction, love or maybe just because they
want to confuse everyone. It all began in 1915, the movement instantly caught fire and spread
practically everywhere, no matter where you looked there was some sort of DADA to be seen.
Sometimes you didn t even know it! The artist found inside of this essay will be: Max Ernst,
Hannah Hoch and finally Johannes Baader. To begin with the first artist, Max Ernst, was a man
who served in the war and soon enough became terrified of how the real world works. He became

that would soon bring her to her own fame, though since the war had started the school had been

mostly been seen as cutouts from a newspaper, some eyes being placed upon a new face and so

apprentice for awhile till he found himself meeting his future side man in art, Raoul Hausmann.
He was fitted as unfit to join the military when wanting to join, so he had began focusing on art
instead. This lead to him making wonderful pieces of art and even some documents such as books
and novels. Most of his work had been strete performances with his dear friend Raoul Hausmann,
which did get some interest through the crowd with them both working nicely together. His work
yet again had been mostly put together from newspaper clippings, morphing people from simple
ink to art. Going through his art in my opinion had some more interesting things when they weren t
filled with newspaper clippings. Dadaism was definitely a wonderful and intelligent art era that
really morphed what art means today. Though sometimes you don t even mean to see it, at times

Cornelius Vanderbilt Essay
The want for wealth saturates everyone s mind at one point or another. Almost everyone dreams
of having the large mansion near the beach, the multiple cars, etc., but this money does not just
come, it either has to be inherited or earned. During the 1800s, most wealth was inherited, but
there were a few self made men that worked their way from the bottom to the top in order to
become wealthy. One man in particular influenced wealthy men to come like Andrew Carnegie
and Rockefeller. He was able to begin many of the ideas brought about during the Gilded Age
because not only was he a major influence in society, but he greatly changed the economy and the
industries he was involved in during that time. Lastly, he modernized commerce for... Show more

Vanderbilt was the first businessman in America to try to monopolize other businesses by creating
lower prices. This enabled him to become wealthy because the lower his prices went the more
customers he gained. Once other companies found that they could also lower their prices, it added
more competition for Vanderbilt, so he had to begin to create trusts. During the Gold Rush in
California, many people went by sea to go from the East Coast to the West Coast. At the time
Vanderbilt had the lowest prices and he was putting many other steamboat companies out of
business; so The Steamboat Association threw in the towel and bought him out. For $100,000 and
an annual payment of $5,000 for ten years, Vanderbilt agreed to withdraw from the Hudson River
market. 2 By making other steamboat companies pay him rent to stay out of the industry, he was
still becoming extremely wealthy without having to do any work. Even though Vanderbilt was
extremely wealthy, he was very cautions with his money and only spent it when he knew something
was a strong investment that would get him more powerful. During the Gold Rush, the other
steamboat industries used the Panama Canal in order to get to

Inferiority Complex In Adler
Adler came up with the theory Inferiority Complex in 1907/1917. This train of thought would
have been a very abstract way of thinking of personality as it was so very different from the main
voice on the matter at the time, that voice being Freud. This theory mainly explained that everyone
feels inferior some of the time throughout their lives however; others may focus too much on their
inferiorities and therefore develop what Adler called an Inferiority Complexabout ourselves.
(Hergenhahn, 2013.pg.522). We then spend too much time thinking about our inferiority therefore
becoming defensive and untrusting towards other individuals. According to Adler, individuals that
present an inferiority complex tend to either over compensate in areas of... Show more content on

This concept has a significant effect on the style of life which Adler explains is the attitude in
which one takes towards their life. (Maltby, 2010.pg.44). Birth order is a prominent aspect in
psychoanalysis that is still relevant today, it helps to explain a great deal about the behaviour one
displays and their personality. In reference to the Universal movie Thor (2011), the character of
Loki exhibits the main characteristics of the youngest child. He is manipulative towards his
parents and older brother in order to get what he wants. (www.Marvel.com)Youngest children like
to push boundaries to see what they can get away with, but at the same time they have a need for
praise in the things that they do. They are in constant competition to be the same or better than
their older siblings almost to say that they are just as able and worthy of the independence given to
the older child. Robert Lundin (1998) stated that youngest children strive to excel and to surpass
the older ones to become the conquering hero . (Lundin, 1998) Pg. 65) Adler suggested that the
order that one comes in the family can have an impact on their personality because of their
realisation of an inferiority that has come to light in their mind which in turn can lead to neurosis.
(Adler, 1927 as cited in Maltby, 2010). Pg.

Cost Of Art Education
Pablo Picasso once said Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he
grows up. Think about this, when a child is young they are given crayons and paper to occupy
their time; mothers sing to their babies or play them classical music. From a young age we are
taught to create, and we really are all artists. We create until creation is deemed nonessential, and
the art projects we work into our everyday routine are demoted to electives. Funds for Education
have been cut in over 80% of U.S. schools in the last 10 years, and the first programs to leave are
often art education. Harvard President Drew Faust recently wrote. The same classes we as a nation
are deeming unnecessary are mandatory in countries that rank consistently... Show more content on

School System needs to stop defunding art programs because art is important in our history.
Without art, we would have less interpretation of our history. In any history class we study the
artists of each time period and how they interpreted their times. Most of what artists do is tell
stories, they help us make sense of the world. It can connect us to the past, present and the future.
Throughout history our greatest minds have often merged discovery and art, the geniuses we learn
about in history aren t only math matachins or scientists, but artists on top of that. Einstein stressed
the importance of having a creative mind, once saying I m enough of an artist to draw freely from
my imagination, which I think is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited.
Imagination encircles the world. Without art we would have a much more narrow view of our past,
and future generations will have a narrow view of our current events. Sure, you could say that we
still have a history without art; but without photos, paintings, and sculptures would we really fully
grasp our past? By cutting our generation off from art education we are cutting off future
generations from learning too. Without artists to document our history, our great grandchildren will
be without that connection to what s going on today. While art connects us to the past, and the
world s history, it connects us to so much

Essay on Dred Scott
In this position paper I will explain the trials that Dred Scott
had to go through in his life in his attempts for justice to be served.
Dred Scott was born in 1799, and was an illiterate slave. His parents
were slaves and so he was born the property of the Peter Blow
family. In 1804 The United States took possesion of Missouriand
after many debates on whether or not it would be a slavery state, a
resolution known as the Missouri Compromise came along. This
made a balance in the number of free and slave states, the problem
was that Missouri was located right in the middle of what was the
freedom and slavery.
In 1830, the Blow family moved to St. Louis and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In these nine years
he never made an attempt to get his freedom and it is not known
why he waited until this specific time, there are only three
possibilities that are considered though. One possibility is that he
was tired of being hired out. Another possibility is that he was
possibly on the verge of getting sold to another owner. The last
possible reason was that Scott may have tried to pay for his
freedom, but was refused of it. It is known that the suit was not
filed for political reasons.
The Scotts case took place in the St. Louis Circuit Court and in
1847 the jury ruled in Mrs. Emerson favor and dismissed the case.
The Scotts were allowed to refile their suit. In 1850, the Scotts got
the outcome they deserved, as the jury believed that it was right for
them to be free. Irene Emerson appealed the decision in 1852 and
the State Supreme Court overruled the Circuit Court decision. Scott
then filed a suit in the U.S. Federal Court in St. Louis against John
Sanford who had taken responsibility for John Emerson s estate and
was also Irene Emerson s brother. The decision in this case again
went against Scott and he then tried one more appeal in 1856. In
the case of Scott v. Sanford the court stated that he should remain a
slave being that he was nothing but property. The Supreme Court
stated that A black man had no rights which a white man had to

Hamlet and a Midsummer Night s Dream
In one of AMND s most enduring passages, Lysander states (Act one scene one, line 134) The
course of true love never did run smooth. The conflict that is inevitably born out of love is a
central theme at the heart of Midsummer s Night s Dream and Hamlet, but is extended by
Shakespeare not only to romantic relationships, but to familial bonds as well. The conflict is
ultimately resolved in diametrically opposing ways in each play, according to the conventions of
their respective genres. Hamlet is a tragedy, and therefore can result only in death, but AMND, as a
comedy, uses the traditional method of marriage to resolve its conflict. Shakespeare opens AMND
with the relationship between Athenian Duke Theseus and Amazonian warrior... Show more content

When Polonius finds out that Ophelia has been conducting a romance with Hamlet, he insists that
she no longer have contact with the prince: I will teach you. Think yourself a baby. (1.3.105)
Polonius convinces Ophelia that she has been naГЇve and stupid to believe Hamlet s professions of
love: Affection? Pooh! You speak like a green girl. (1.3. 101) In Polonius s dialogue,
Shakespeare repeatedly employs images of Ophelia as a child to portray how her father
psychologically controls her, by making her dependent on his commands, as a young child
would: I shall obey, my lord. (1.3.136) In AMND Shakespeare constructs a similar conflict
around a father daughter relationship, as Egeus wants his daughter Hermia, to marry Demetrius
and not her lover, Lysander. Shakespeare draws upon ancient Greek mythology to portray his
characters and their respective philosophies. Egeus displays Apollonian attributes as he
paternalistically favours a strict adherence to the law above all else, even to the point of death:
As she is mine, I may dispose of her...or to her death according to our law. (1.1.43) Egeus
commoditises his relationship with his daughter, as he considers her a possession to be controlled
and exploited. Like Polonius who commands Ophelia to set your entreatments at a higher rate
(1.3.122), Egeus s diction is replete with the language of commerce as he tries to trade his
daughter: and she is

The Inauguration of the New Acropolis Museum
The New Acropolis Museum was inaugurated in the year 2009, near the base of the Acropolis
with a view of the Parthenon. The museum was a facility of around 226,000 square feet of glass
and concrete, which cost $200 million dollars. The design was introduced in 2001, so it could
be completed in time for the Olympics in 2004. This goal was unsuccessful due to legal battles
that delayed the construction process for years said The New York Times. Since the museum
opened it is running strong with an average of 5 million visitors per year, coming to see all the
different collections. The museum is broken into three floors, offering different historical artwork.
The first floor is divided into two sections, one from the archaic period and the other from
Propylaia with objects that date around the classical time period to antiquity. On the first floor the
visitors are greeted by magnificent sculptures of the first temples on the Acropolis. Displayed here
also are votive offerings from worshippers. Some of these offerings include the archaic Korai, the
Hippeis, statues of Athena the goddess, Sculptures of male figures, marble reliefs, and smaller
bronze and clay offerings. The Acropolis Museumwants to conduct research on this small
collection of archaic statues, which keep their color. In figure #1 I present the archaic Korai,
which is white skinned and expresses grace radiance youth. As opposed to the brown skinned

Zodiac Killer Informative Speech
I have chosen to do my informative speech on the unsolved mystery of the Zodiac Killer.
Methods I will be using to captivate my audience from the book will be word pictures, numbers,
key words, and to speak claerly. I plan on starting my speech with word pictures by setting the
scene of the 1960s 1970s, this was the time period the Zodiac Killerwas on his killing spree. This
will help them be able to picture what it was like to live back then and hopefully help them
remember my speech. I will use numbers to get my point across of how many people were killed
and affected by the Zodiac Killer during his reign of terror. This will establish logos into my
speech. I am also going to use key words to keep my audience interested and involved, to... Show

By doing this I will have established pathos and hopefully this will grab my audience s attention.
Since the Zodiac case is still considered unsolved to this day, I will let my audience decide for
themselves who they think the killer was. I will only present facts and leave my opinion out so
that it does not persuade anyone. This will establish a motive for my audience to listen to me, so
that they can figure out who the killer is. From the book, I will use different learning styles to
get my point across, I will also do something unexpected, and I will go review my main point. To
get my point across to everyone in the audience I will use different learning styles. For the
auditory learners, I will be speaking clearly, so that they can hear and understand all my
information. I will be using a PowerPoint with both words and pictures for the visual learners
and the visual print learners. Lastly for the kinesthetic learners I will ask for a show of hands of
who has ever heard of the Zodiac Killer. I will do this so that they can be involved somehow. To
keep my audience interested I will do something unexpected. I m not going to say in this paper
what I will be doing, because I want it to be a surprise to everyone. I could end my speech with
the rhetorical question now after hearing all the facts, who do you think the Zodiac Killer is? or I
could say my grandfather was the Zodiac Killer and

Hesitation, Repression, and Indecisiveness in the Love...
Impotent, pathetic, inadequate, timid. Everyone knows a J. Alfred Prufrock, and everyone has
a bit of him in himself or herself. Just like Prufrock we readers have been witness to the
pretentious triviality of others, the women who come and go/ Talking of Michelangelo (lines 13
14), and the lack of confidence which prevents the realization of desires. Eliot s careful choice of
epigraph from Dante s Inferno reverberates throughout this poem as the logic behind Prufrock
sharing his feelings with his listener. Just as Guido da Montefeltro is certain his listener shares a
similar fate as himself, so to does Prufrock believe that his listener is like himself, and will never
turn back and descend the stair (line 39). Prufrock s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Death also signifies Prufrock s lack of social contact and sexual stimulation. The word etherized
not only means to numb, but is also suggestive of the word ethereal. Prufrock s repressed desire
can be seen in his frustration with the reality of social/emotional interaction and also with the
ethereal, inexpressible inner desire of his heart, not just to ask an overwhelming question , but
further, to say exactly what he means as in line 104. Unable to force the moment to its crisis
leaves Prufrock emotionally impotent. Unlike Marvell and his coy mistress Prufrock does not
have all the time in the world to malinger, stretched on the floor. Trivializing his message of
desire, as in the rhyme of lines 79 80 or referring to himself as John the Baptist only further
hinders the expression of his desire. And we can only imagine in Eliot s use of religious images
in which Prufrock wept and fasted, wept and prayed that Prufrock is fervently hoping for the self
confidence to express his desires. Yet after the social banter/conventions of the cups, the marmalade,
the tea , the porcelain and some talk of you and me Prufrock is still unable to seize the moment, to
turn desire into action. Presuming that Prufrock is largely reflecting on these issues himself rather
than to another listener one notices that he is unable to even mention his desires to himself, so

Essay about D. H. Lawrence (Snake, Tortoise Shout,...
D. H. LAWRENCE (1885 1930)
Hardy and Yeats belong to the upper classes; however, D. H. Lawrence is a working class poet
and novelist. Both Hardy and D.H. Lawrence write outstanding novels and they are famous in both
of the literary forms. Hardy depicts nature in terms of pessimism like William Butler Yeatsand D.H.
Lawrence portrays pessimism through the sexuality that stands for the blood for himself. In
Freudian psychology, the snake symbolizes the male sexual power. However, in D.H. Lawrence s
poem entitled Snake , the animal stands for the innate glory of wild beings and the vulgarity as a
whole and the pettiness of the human beings is narrated. Secondly the snake in the poem stands for

Sixth Section:
In this section, the image of the snake as the God is portrayed. D. H. Lawrence says that it is
unseeing because God cannot be seen as creator in anyway. So, at one stage, the position of
animal is God like. The poet points out that the animal lifted his head and flickered his tongue like
a stormy night as the simile in the poem indicates and finally disappeared for a while under the
earth near the wall garden of D. H. Lawrence.
Seventh Section:
In this section, the snake symbolizes the horror belonging to him, because he thinks that his life is
not guaranteed outside but inside the hole he is on the safe side. Apart from this, he protests against
human beings who harm him. In this section, he feels more confident in the hole rather than near
the trough.
Eighth Section:
In this section, the animal is seen in two living parts in order to reproduce from the old body.
From the point of view of the poet, this is a miracle because even male snakes can copy
themselves. The first section of the animal was straight but the second section was convulsed. It
could not come into existence and it faded away, but because the animal was divided into two and
the first section was alive, at this stage, the animal symbolizing fascination for the poet. But life is

Paradoxical Trinity Analysis
The age of the robot warrior machine is looming, and it represents monumental changes in the
future conduct of war. Increased precision and decreased risk make the automation of warriors both
politically and militarily attractive. In the future, government and military leaders will have to
address the numerous moral and ethical questions concerning when, where and how to utilize these
lifeless soldiers. In the past, many leaders relied on the military theory from the Prussian theorist
Carl Von Clausewitzbook On Warto answer similar questions. Even though his theories have
formerly provided guidance, can the ideas written in the 1800 s, truly be useful when applied to
such drastic changes in the future conduct of war.

Measuring, comparing, or correlating the ever changing interaction between them is impossible.
The only constant is that all three are always in existence, pulling and pushing for an assemblance
of equilibrium. Any attempt to ignore one of them or limit another would render them useless . The
trinity and the absolute existence of the three elements represent the unique unchanging nature of
war. The enduring nature and profoundness suggests that the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, Holy Spirit)
may have influenced Clausewitz, which is undoubtedly also a bias of this author. Many scholars
have argued over its interpretation, especially with regard to the secondary trinity referenced by
Clausewitz as the people, the commander with his army, and the government . One notion that is
agreeable to this author is that the secondary trinity of the people, army, and government was
Clausewitz attempt at the application of the theory. The application in this way also discards the
argument that the term war can only apply a state. Because of this, the elements of his paradoxical
trinity can be applied not only to state actors, but to non state, warlords, gangs, fanatical groups or
even individuals. The only requirement is humans. Other Students of Clausewitz have developed

Native American casinos are exempt from federal regulations and are not required to pay any

effect on the traditional casino industry. By adding more Native American casinos throughout the
United States, locations such as Las Vegas and Atlantic City are likely to suffer because less
people are going to be making the trips to one of these two competitive locations because they will
be able to easily access a casino in their own backyard. Another potential sector of the casino
industry is the availability of Internet gambling. This will provide casino consumers with the ability
to place bets through home computers and gives them a potentially low cost business model for
firms that already operate casinos. It is widely believed that gambling on the Internet will

It has been pointed out that females are at higher risk in tearing their ACL than males using an

However, Beck et al., (2017) proposed females had a higher injury rate than males.

The Impact Of Talent Management On The Workforce And...
Introduction
Talent Management is important to any organization. Baby boomers are nearing retirement age
we have a large number of people retiring each year and we need to plan for this so we can fill
vacant positions with the best talent. There is unprecedented generational diversity in the
workforce and globalization is changing the way we conduct business. And of particular concern
to those of us in higher education, the mobility of academics affects our college s workforce who
we hire and the skills they need. Because of these reasons it is more important than ever for us to
embrace technology to help us manage our talent.

possible for us to use technology to support and develop employees and to plan for the future. We
now have the capacity to store, collect and analyze large volumes of data. Recent developments
regarding how we understand and then link individual characteristics and performance are enabling
a data revolution in the area of talent management (Abstract ).
A talent management system can provide, store and analyze important information for our
organization. A talent management system is an important tool for any organization and we would
be smart to purchase one.
Recommendation
I recommend that we purchase a talent management system.
Justification
A talent management system provides the ability to share information and support. Technology can
make the talent management process more efficient and create transparency. Supervisors can access
information more quickly than with spreadsheets and other shared documents. A talent
management system keeps all the data in a single location. The data is available to other people in

What might it mean then, to be a refugee not from another country, but in one s very homeland?

displaced subjects, the characters in Walker s art take on a renewed sense of empowerment
even while falling victim to and participating in acts of violence and humiliation. This paper
seeks to explore issues of spectatorship and agency in the artwork of Kara Walker, taking into
special consideration the critical essays of Kevin Young in the catalogue My Complement, My

Walker s art from various cultural and historical perspectives, Shaw s reading takes into account
the personal experiences that influence Walker s work. Much of Walker s art takes the form of
visual narrative, telling stories with images and words. The artist has said that the genre of

Thank you, Felicia, for your contribution. I have been comparing my nursing school curriculum to

It was the same program I attended, but yet it seems so different with so many improvements and

wider reach and dictates how nurses are trained to meet the demands of the health care consumer.
Patients are being admitted with more than one comorbidities, making is essential for nurses to well

The Seventh Most Important Thing Essay
The Seventh Most Important Thing
Diego Villada Youel
In The seventh most important thing by Shelley Pearsall, Arthur T.Owens throws a brick at a local
man that collects rubbish. Arthur and his sister always call him junk man, although they would
later find out that his name is actually James hampton. After getting out of juvie, arthur has a long
nerve wracking time in court to decide his punishment for throwing a brick at junk man. Instead of
being sentenced to more time in juvie, junk man offers an alternative, he is sentenced to one
hundred twenty hours of community service... working for him. He would pay off those hours
every Saturday. One kid. One crime. One chance to make things right. Arthur was given an address
that he had to show up to, too work on his probation, but he had much difficulty finding it. After

The Impact of Agricultural Subsidies Essay
The Impact of Agricultural Subsidies The Impact of Agricultural Subsidies Many countries started
to negotiate Doha Development Agenda under the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2001. In
July 2004, members in WTO reached agreement to make a reform in agriculture. One of focused
things is to cut agricultural subsidies both in developed countries and developing countries. In

to stabilize the prices of farm products and increase income of farmers, they also distort free trade

impact on domestic market. There is an example about the challenges in Quebec to show how
agricultural subsidies distort the domestic market. There are two main problems in Quebec in
recent years. Many farmers are unable to cover their expenses and many are becoming increasingly
dependent on government subsidies (Minardi, J. 2008 p .7). In Quebec, government through giving
farmers agricultural subsidies executes supply management to make a quota system to let domestic
products more competitive. Not only supply management, but also high tariff makes food from
other countries cannot come into Quebec s market. Therefore the local food prices are extreme

Roof Replacement
Determining whether or not a home needs a new roof is not difficult. Homeowners simply have to
look for clues that alert them to issues. When it comes to Roof Replacement Ft Worth residents
just have to look for these clues, call in a professional company such as Greystone Roofing to
check out the roof. They can inspect the roofto see if an entire roof is needed, or if the roof that s on
the roof can be repaired.
Repair or replace
If a few shingles have blown off during a storm, or if there s a small leak in one area, replacing is
an economical option. It also makes the most sense. After all, why incur the expense of installing a
new roof if there are only a couple of shingles that need to be replaced.
In some cases one section of a roof may be damaged. Perhaps, a tree limb has fallen on an area of
the roof which resulted in damage to 1/4 of the roof. This is another time when repairing may be
the more favorable option. However, if the roof is older and will need replacing soon many
homeowners opt for Roof Replacement Ft Worth homeowners choose replacement over repair on
older roofs in order to save money in the long run. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Nathaniel Bacon s The Name Of The People
In Bacon s Declaration in the Name of the People , Nathaniel Bacon lists every major offense of
Sir William Berkeley, many of which collide with one another to display how the governor s
actions and inactions built upon each other to create turmoil for the people of Virginia. However,
Berkeley defends himself and proclaims Bacon a traitor in, The Declaration and Remonstrance of
Sir William Berkeleyhis most sacred Majesties Governor and Captain Generall of Virginia . In
order to gainthe king s favor, both men write separate declarations, but one has everything to lose
while the other has everything to gain.
The first of the offenses listed by Bacon is the demanding of unjust taxes which are not being
used to better the colony at least not for the underclass; thus, Berkeley has also been accused of
abusing his power as governor. With the purpose of monetary gain, Bacon applies for a trading
license but is denied by Berkeley and the council, which consists of many of Berkeley s cronies.
This leads Bacon to make the allegation that Berkeley has made a monopoly of the beaver trade
which is true but Berkeley only denied Bacon s request because he knew Bacon wanted more
power and where there is money, there is power.
In the midst of the two men s quarreling, the lower classes of Virginia are demanding land. They
begin to migrate to Indian Territory and are consequently murdered by the Indians. Though there is

Discuss The Relationship Between The HRM And CSR Relationship
1)THE HRM CSR RELATIONSHIP The correlation between HRM and CSR has recently been
acknowledged (Buciuniene Kazlauskaite, 2012; Pless et al., 2012) and while there are studies
solely focusing on the role of HRM in developing CSR practices (ref) there have been other
studies recognizing the two way relationship (ref). According to my understanding of the two
distinct disciplines, the relationship can be studied from the CSR to HRM perspective which
enables the development of HRM policies and practices under a moral and ethical lens, and
from the HRM to CSR link which focuses on the roles of HRM in the development and
implementation of CSR strategy. I believe that there are mutual beneficial aspects of
constructing a two way HRM CSR relation, however this study will maintain a realistic
approach and HRM has a stronger grasp in corporate affairs compered to CSR management. This
is due to mainly two reasons: first, HRM has been widely developed in research since early
1920s being therefore more utilized within corporations while CSR is a concept taking
momentum now and still broadly debated. Second, there is more evidence about HRM acting as
a corporate facilitator to reach positive a profitable outcomes compered to CSR strategies which
are still discussed among business and political parties. Therefore, in order to produce a
conceptual tool that can be substantially used the emphases will be given to the role of HRM in
developing CSR policies. 1.1THE CROSS CULTURAL

The No Child Left Behind
We, as a country, have some of the lowest scoring in international tests in reading, math, and
science when compared to several other countries. In order to improve education in America, we
have to go to the root of our problem in the school system and find better ways to enforce new rules
and regulations that wouldn t be detrimental to both students, schools, and educators alike. The No
Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act is having a negative effect on our educationsystem because it
reduces the choices of schools for parents, and the distribution of qualified teachers. It also has a
negative impact on the amount that kids are able to learn in school. The NCLB was signed into law
in 2001 by President George W. Bush. The act is was meant to give assistance in establishing
good reading and math programs. Programs such as reading first funded at $1.02 billion in 2004
were made to help states and their districts set up scientific, research based reading programs for
students in K 3 grades by having districts compete for federal money (Editorial Projects in
Education Research Center 8). Billions of dollars had been put towards programs like reading first
but much of that said money has either been cut or never reach the set target goal of promised
money. Despite the intention to increase student academic achievement, the act has failed to do so
in several cases arguably putting us in a worse situation than before. Proficiency requirements was

Vitamin B12 are found in sardines, Salomon, tuna, cod, lamb, shrimp, beef, yogurt and cows milk.
Folic acid helps to produce and maintain new cell development, as well as preventing changes in
the DNA that could possibly lead to cancer. Folic acidis found in foods such as spinach, broccoli,
asparagus, beets, liver, beans and whole wheat products. When pregnant if women consume a

their children. In this essay I will review different articles in order to come to the conclusion of
when a women is pregnant and takes a vitamin B12 and folate supplement she will reduce their
chance of her child having Neural Tube Defects or Spina Bifita.
Neural tube defects are birth defects of the spine, brain, and the spinal cord. Usually neural tube
defects happen in the first month of a women s pregnancy. Most of the time neural tube defects
occur even before the women know she is pregnant. The two most common types of neural tube
defects are spina bifita and anencephaly. In spina bifita, the spinal column does not close all of the
way, which causes nerve damage that leads to paralysis in the child s legs. In anencephaly, most
parts of the brain and skull do not fully develop. Because of the brain and the

A contract is a legal document that tend to create an extended relationship between a buyer and

Moreover, contract length is mainly depends on the output where it may be short, or lengthy and

Water Is The Most Important Substance On Earth
Water is the most important substance on earth, all plants, animals and humans must have water
to survive. Chemically, water is a compound made of two hydrogens covalently bonded to the
single oxygen atom, which forms the chemical/ molecular formula 0. In nature, water appears in
all three common states of matter and takes many different forms on Earth: water vapour and
clouds in the sky, seawater and icebergs in the polar ocean and glaciers and rivers in the
mountains. Water is tasteless, does not have an odour and is liquid at standard temperature. Water
s colour has a very slight blue hue, although it appears colourless in small quantities and blue in
large quantities. Water owes its blueness to the selective absorption in the red part of its visible
spectrum. The absorbed protons endorse transitions to high overtone and amalgamated states of
the nuclear motions of the molecule; to highly eager vibrations. To make this clearer, some of the
light, hitting the surface of the ocean, is reflected back directly but most of it infiltrates the water
surface interacting with its molecules. The water molecules can vibrate in three different modes
when light hits it. The red, orange, yellow and green wavelengths of light are absorbed so that the
remaining light we see is composed of the shorter wavelength; blues and violets. This is the main
reason why the colour of water is blue. To current knowledge water is the only example in nature in
which colour comes from vibrational

The Theme Of Slavery In Octavia Butler s Kindred
Fiction is a vast topic with many works about slavery, but few would be considered science fiction.
In Kindred, Dana, an African American woman living in 1976, teleports back to 1815 into her
ancestor s plantation in Maryland. Dana is in a hostile environment, when her life is in danger she
teleports back to the future; although she keeps getting sent back to the past, with every experience
more dangerous than the last. Throughout the novel, Octavia Butler developed the theme of we

On pages 260 261, Dana stabbed Rufus multiple times in the attic. The main factor that lead to
Dana stabbing Rufus was her belief that Rufus needed to free more of his slaves. If Dana did
not act based off of her beliefs, many of the slaves futures would have been altered. Alice made
multiple significant decisions because of what she believed in. Alice believed that she had
more opportunity running away with Isaac than she did staying in Maryland; Alice ran away

Alice and Dana as being only one woman (page 228). Alice analyzes this as Rufus thinking her

from the reality that the American dream has failed him. The flute is reminiscent of Willys past

unpleasent tones of a child recounting phrases, we see how awful it is for Willy to have to live

Patchwork Commentary
Patchwork Analysis
Eavan Boland s unique poem, Patchwork, allows the reader to be privy to the private thoughts of a
persona, presumably the author herself, as she struggles to answer the question of fate or destiny.
Throughout the poem, while quilting alone late at night, the speaker puzzles over the randomness
of the universe, utilizing the simple quilt metaphor to inspire a final epiphany.
Immediately revealing the central theme of the poem as well as alluding to the narrator s apparent
self doubt, the first stanza is an imperative aspect of this piece. The speaker begins by stating that
she has been thinking at random on the universe, or rather, how nothing in the universe is random .
So commences her journey to solve the question: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The word mechanical suggests that the woman is acting mindlessly, almost as if guided by a
higher power. Fate determines that the quilt will be made, and so it will be. It guides the woman s
hands as her mind once again floats away from reality and begins to explore the metaphysical
world. In addition, upon describing her secondhand sewing machine , the narrator further exposes
her self depreciating character.
In the fifth stanza, the speaker makes inconsiderable progress in solving the crucial question
regarding the randomness of the universe. As she realizes the overwhelming number of
uncertainties in the universe, the woman chooses instead to concentrate on the task at hand, turning
her back...to the dark or the unknowns. However, she is unable to resist the compelling temptation
of mystery, and quickly attempts to contemplate the stars and bits of stars and little bits of bits
which reside throughout the universe. While the bits in this statement signify randomness, the stars
represent the unknown. This symbolism, coupled with the use of repetition and alliteration,
emphasize the woman s sheer confusion on the matter at hand. The vast uncertainty of the universe
has forced her to consider the possibility of a wholly random universe. The persona s confusion is
confirmed through her question: is it craft or art? In this circumstance, craft represents a universe in
which fate

Pedagogy Of The Oppressed
Reader Response to Pedagogy of the Oppressed by Paulo Freire In Pedagogy of the Oppressed ,
Paulo Freire describes what he calls the banking concept of education. He then argues as to why we
should not use the banking concept of education as teachers. The banking concept is when a teacher
believes they are a genius on his or her content subject and treats the children s minds as banks. The
teacher just deposits his or her knowledge into the children s minds without posing any real
challenges or chance for student growth. Freire says, Narration...leads the students to memorize
mechanically the narrated account...it turns them into containers ...to be filled by the teachers
(Freire 1). For years, a teacher has been judged on their ability

Dichotomy In Film
Beginning at a very young age in our lives, the film industry influences the way in which each
individual interprets the actions that are taken by a character in a film. The constant portrayal of
what characteristics would best fit with defining what it is to be a hero, seem to focus mainly on
masculine traits. The desirable traits that are illustrated in the majority of the films are being
independent, strong, and most importantly a male. However, the filmMaleficent (2014),
contradicts this idea. This film tells the story of Maleficent (Angelina Jolie), a young woman that
has been fooled into believing in true love. When the person she believed was her true love,
removes her most precious weapon she is left with great agony and thirst for... Show more content

This is due to the fact that females are portrayed as being fragile, emotional, and dependent.
Disney fairytales have a constant reoccurring theme in which the male character will save the
princess from an enchantment, with the idea that a kiss from a true love will eliminate the curse.
According to Jack Zipes, author of Fairytales and the Art of Subversion says that the patriarchal
notion is that all women should remain comatose until then rescued by a prince. (Sneed) This
proves that Disney films focused on the dominance of male characters over the females. The
princess was prone to being more fragile and afraid of becoming independent. Even though the
princess is the main character in the Disney films, they are deprived of their ability to think and act
for themselves, without the need of a

Motivation Statement For Motivation In Psychology
In this statement I describe my motivation for seeking graduate training in psychology at Georgia
State University. It is my aim to continue my education in psychology, with the goal of pursuing a
career that contributes to our understanding of cognitive abilities in both humans and non human
primates. My involvement in the academic community at the University of Georgia has contributed
greatly to the refinement of my academic and career goals. Through my involvement in service
organizations such as the Undergraduate Neuroscience Organization (UNO), I have gained a
greater interest in how studies of the brain contribute to our understanding of the causes and
treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. I have theoretical research interests in comparative
cognition, human animal studies, and primatebehavior. Specifically, I am interested in how
cognitive abilities such as memory and attention function in primates and how this functioning
compares to that of humans. These research interests developed throughout my undergraduate
coursework, research, and internship experiences. As an undergraduate student at the University of
Georgia, I have taken a holistic approach to my education, combining a psychological and
anthropological perspective to understand how the brain works both individually and across
different species. I am confident that my education thus far has prepared me for the rigor of
interdisciplinary doctoral coursework. My undergraduate coursework not only underscored

Change Is Pain Research Paper
Change is pain refers to the complex connection between the anatomy of individuals brains and
human behavior that makes change almost impossible. According to Rock and Schwartz (2006),
psychology and neuroscience research have gained a new perspective on how different areas of the
brain determine human behavior. In particular, when individuals are exposed to situations that
include changing a specific behavior, there are two main reasons that make changing the behavior a
pain. One of these reasons relates to the nature of human memory and its relationship to
conscious attention (Rock Schwartz, 2006, p. 3). As per Rock and Schwartz (2006), routine
activities that take place in the working memory area of individuals brain require less effort and
energy from individuals to perform than new activities which takes place in the basal ganglia of
the brain; for example, driving to work versus taking a standardized test (e.g., GRE, CPA,... Show

Individuals will highly prefer driving to work than taking the standardized test. This results from
the great energy demand that a new activity requires, which is proportional to changing a behavior.
The second reason that makes change difficult is related to individuals basic brain functioning
(Rock Schwartz, 2006, p. 4). As per Rock and Schwartz (2006) stated that the orbital frontal
cortex of the human brain tends to perceive change as errors; consequently, this evokes
overwhelming emotions that requires a high demand of energy and leads individuals to behave
irrational by depriving the prefrontal brain region from energy. That is, when individuals face a
change, they tend to register it as an error which in turn originates an array of emotions that
disrupt their behavior. For instance, many individuals experience great fear of public speaking. If
someone who is not comfortable speaking in public is asked to give a speech, that person will
experience a variety of emotions that will interfere with his/her

The United Kingdom Is A Sovereign State Under...
Referendums are not written in law, or are they set in stone or designated to time.
For those who re basing their vote on sovereignty: straightaway, I will clarify that already the United
Kingdom is a sovereign state under international law. I will clarify also... that the Parliament in
Westminster is the only lawmaking authority in this country. The EU is not a sovereign state.
The EU only has the powers that it s gifted under the EU treaties. If you find judicial systems
operating under a EU priority this is done so under our elected parliament s instruction. A sovereign
state has control. We have that control!

The Causes of Crime. What are the causes of crime essay
For centuries, the one plague that human civilization faces is a disease that has no evident cure
crime. Before one can even try to find solutions for it, one must understand what a crime is and the
nature of crime. Crime itself is defined as any offence harmful against society. The nature of crime
however deals with the motives and causes of crime, which has no one clear cut explanation. There
are several different theories on the cause of crime such as heredity, gender and mental defects,
but each one is not substantial enough to explain crime and why it takes place. The theory on
heredity as being the source of crime is based on the idea that criminal activity is predisposed by
human genes. Gender being the root of crime suggests that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

...The capacity to be affected by how others feel is developed in the earliest years before the age
of about three. What is more significant is that this capacity cannot be learned or taught or put
into a person after that age with any known method of treatment. This capacity to be affected by
how others feel is developed most strongly when infants and toddlers are empathically cared for
by the same few people all the time people who are willing and able to meet the child s emotional
needs.
During the early stages of childhood, the most important part of development takes place. If
there is a significant lack of attention and interaction during this time, the child may end up
being drawn away from society and isolated. Sometimes it is the parents fault for not being able
to raise socially competent children and other times it is institutions such as public schools.
Certain children need that extra help or support that may not be provided at school. These
children then end up turning to crime such as theft or drug dealing in order to compensate. Their
life lesson is in the streets not in the homes or schools. Also, this idea of social norms put such an
emphasis on acceptance that children who do not fit in become alienated. A healthy life needs
some acceptance from friends and family, but if a child experiences a lack of it, the results could be
tragic. Take for

Diagnosis/Discussion
The patient had a sudden onset of lower left quadrant pain and was diagnosed with diverticulitis.
The patient has no diet regimen, which may be the likely cause of his onset with this disease. His
primary complaint of lower left quadrant pain, is being felt by the inflamation and infection that is
occuring in his sigmoid colon, located in the lower left quadrant in the hypogastric region.
Diverticulitis is an inflamation and infection in the diverticuli, which are holes, or weak spots found
in the colon.
This inflamation and infection can effect many tissues if preforations allow the leakage of
infection into the abdominal cavity, such as the bladder, skin, and small intestines. In this case,
fortunately the patient was spared with a mild case and only resulted in a 3 day hosp. stay. The
lining of the sigmoid colon is made up of simple columnar epithelium cells. Their main function is
for secretions and absorbtion.
When there is a problem in the colon, and these cells are inflamed and infected, they do not work
like they were intended and the homeostasis in the body is effected, resulting in

  • 2. Inspector Calls Essay What do you think is the importance of Inspector Goole and how does Priestley present him? Inspector Goole creates a massive presence within An Inspector Calls and through him we are able to explore each character and Priestly himself. The Inspector is a vital character within the play and allows Priestly to channel through his thoughts, feelings and messages to society by creating the seemingly omniscient Inspector Goole. In the essay I will illustrate the importance of the Inspector and demonstrate how Priestly presents him. The Inspector is the vehicle that helps us understand each characters personality and views, we see this with Sheila once a naive young girl who seemed quite shallow to begin with becomes a sympathetic and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, his name Goole infers and has connotations of ghoul which is an evil spirit therefore indicating that he might not be human. Priestly uses a dramatic device of lighting change pink and intimate to brighter and harder to really show how the Inspector is different to the others and this in turn reflects his harsh personality and how the atmosphere changes so much when he s around relating to his other world presence. Mrs Birling is a character that is affected by the Inspector in a superficial way: she s more bothered about what other people will think about her being involved than how she actually helped kill a poor woman. We see the two contrasts of how Sheila reacts and how Mrs Birling reacts which is effective as Priestly is able to demonstrate that the Inspector is like a conscience of the family; like in the real world some people are able to ignore their conscience and not feel bad whereas some people really feel their guilt when they have done something wrong. This therefore is why the Inspector is so important in the play, and in his last speech he makes reference to the World War1 and 2 and how people had still not learnt their lesson (used dramatic irony but applies it to the Birling s situation) and sets it straight to them that if they have ... • 3. Max Ernst, Johannes Hoch, Max Ernst And Johannes Baader Dadaism came into the world to confuse all the peers that look upon the work of art each person made to express themselves, this can be for emotion, reaction, love or maybe just because they want to confuse everyone. It all began in 1915, the movement instantly caught fire and spread practically everywhere, no matter where you looked there was some sort of DADA to be seen. Sometimes you didn t even know it! The artist found inside of this essay will be: Max Ernst, Hannah Hoch and finally Johannes Baader. To begin with the first artist, Max Ernst, was a man who served in the war and soon enough became terrified of how the real world works. He became the Enemy Alien from the government saying that max had been a Refugee. Max s work has... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She had gone to school for glass making, though finding herself even deeper in the art madness that would soon bring her to her own fame, though since the war had started the school had been shut down and she had left to join the Red Cross and put her passions aside. Her work had mostly been seen as cutouts from a newspaper, some eyes being placed upon a new face and so on. Some seem to have empowered women even. Her work in my opinion was great, just nothing that interests me too much Johannes had been originally a Masonry, going to school as an apprentice for awhile till he found himself meeting his future side man in art, Raoul Hausmann. He was fitted as unfit to join the military when wanting to join, so he had began focusing on art instead. This lead to him making wonderful pieces of art and even some documents such as books and novels. Most of his work had been strete performances with his dear friend Raoul Hausmann, which did get some interest through the crowd with them both working nicely together. His work yet again had been mostly put together from newspaper clippings, morphing people from simple ink to art. Going through his art in my opinion had some more interesting things when they weren t filled with newspaper clippings. Dadaism was definitely a wonderful and intelligent art era that really morphed what art means today. Though sometimes you don t even mean to see it, at times you ll find yourself looking at a ... • 4. Cornelius Vanderbilt Essay The want for wealth saturates everyone s mind at one point or another. Almost everyone dreams of having the large mansion near the beach, the multiple cars, etc., but this money does not just come, it either has to be inherited or earned. During the 1800s, most wealth was inherited, but there were a few self made men that worked their way from the bottom to the top in order to become wealthy. One man in particular influenced wealthy men to come like Andrew Carnegie and Rockefeller. He was able to begin many of the ideas brought about during the Gilded Age because not only was he a major influence in society, but he greatly changed the economy and the industries he was involved in during that time. Lastly, he modernized commerce for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Vanderbilt was the first businessman in America to try to monopolize other businesses by creating lower prices. This enabled him to become wealthy because the lower his prices went the more customers he gained. Once other companies found that they could also lower their prices, it added more competition for Vanderbilt, so he had to begin to create trusts. During the Gold Rush in California, many people went by sea to go from the East Coast to the West Coast. At the time Vanderbilt had the lowest prices and he was putting many other steamboat companies out of business; so The Steamboat Association threw in the towel and bought him out. For $100,000 and an annual payment of $5,000 for ten years, Vanderbilt agreed to withdraw from the Hudson River market. 2 By making other steamboat companies pay him rent to stay out of the industry, he was still becoming extremely wealthy without having to do any work. Even though Vanderbilt was extremely wealthy, he was very cautions with his money and only spent it when he knew something was a strong investment that would get him more powerful. During the Gold Rush, the other steamboat industries used the Panama Canal in order to get to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Inferiority Complex In Adler Adler came up with the theory Inferiority Complex in 1907/1917. This train of thought would have been a very abstract way of thinking of personality as it was so very different from the main voice on the matter at the time, that voice being Freud. This theory mainly explained that everyone feels inferior some of the time throughout their lives however; others may focus too much on their inferiorities and therefore develop what Adler called an Inferiority Complexabout ourselves. (Hergenhahn, 2013.pg.522). We then spend too much time thinking about our inferiority therefore becoming defensive and untrusting towards other individuals. According to Adler, individuals that present an inferiority complex tend to either over compensate in areas of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This concept has a significant effect on the style of life which Adler explains is the attitude in which one takes towards their life. (Maltby, 2010.pg.44). Birth order is a prominent aspect in psychoanalysis that is still relevant today, it helps to explain a great deal about the behaviour one displays and their personality. In reference to the Universal movie Thor (2011), the character of Loki exhibits the main characteristics of the youngest child. He is manipulative towards his parents and older brother in order to get what he wants. (www.Marvel.com)Youngest children like to push boundaries to see what they can get away with, but at the same time they have a need for praise in the things that they do. They are in constant competition to be the same or better than their older siblings almost to say that they are just as able and worthy of the independence given to the older child. Robert Lundin (1998) stated that youngest children strive to excel and to surpass the older ones to become the conquering hero . (Lundin, 1998) Pg. 65) Adler suggested that the order that one comes in the family can have an impact on their personality because of their realisation of an inferiority that has come to light in their mind which in turn can lead to neurosis. • 6. Cost Of Art Education Pablo Picasso once said Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up. Think about this, when a child is young they are given crayons and paper to occupy their time; mothers sing to their babies or play them classical music. From a young age we are taught to create, and we really are all artists. We create until creation is deemed nonessential, and the art projects we work into our everyday routine are demoted to electives. Funds for Education have been cut in over 80% of U.S. schools in the last 10 years, and the first programs to leave are often art education. Harvard President Drew Faust recently wrote. The same classes we as a nation are deeming unnecessary are mandatory in countries that rank consistently... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... School System needs to stop defunding art programs because art is important in our history. Without art, we would have less interpretation of our history. In any history class we study the artists of each time period and how they interpreted their times. Most of what artists do is tell stories, they help us make sense of the world. It can connect us to the past, present and the future. Throughout history our greatest minds have often merged discovery and art, the geniuses we learn about in history aren t only math matachins or scientists, but artists on top of that. Einstein stressed the importance of having a creative mind, once saying I m enough of an artist to draw freely from my imagination, which I think is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world. Without art we would have a much more narrow view of our past, and future generations will have a narrow view of our current events. Sure, you could say that we still have a history without art; but without photos, paintings, and sculptures would we really fully grasp our past? By cutting our generation off from art education we are cutting off future generations from learning too. Without artists to document our history, our great grandchildren will be without that connection to what s going on today. While art connects us to the past, and the world s history, it connects us to so much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Essay on Dred Scott In this position paper I will explain the trials that Dred Scott had to go through in his life in his attempts for justice to be served. Dred Scott was born in 1799, and was an illiterate slave. His parents were slaves and so he was born the property of the Peter Blow family. In 1804 The United States took possesion of Missouriand after many debates on whether or not it would be a slavery state, a resolution known as the Missouri Compromise came along. This made a balance in the number of free and slave states, the problem was that Missouri was located right in the middle of what was the freedom and slavery. In these nine years he never made an attempt to get his freedom and it is not known why he waited until this specific time, there are only three possibilities that are considered though. One possibility is that he was tired of being hired out. Another possibility is that he was possibly on the verge of getting sold to another owner. The last possible reason was that Scott may have tried to pay for his freedom, but was refused of it. It is known that the suit was not filed for political reasons. The Scotts case took place in the St. Louis Circuit Court and in
  • 8. 1847 the jury ruled in Mrs. Emerson favor and dismissed the case. The Scotts were allowed to refile their suit. In 1850, the Scotts got the outcome they deserved, as the jury believed that it was right for them to be free. Irene Emerson appealed the decision in 1852 and the State Supreme Court overruled the Circuit Court decision. Scott then filed a suit in the U.S. Federal Court in St. Louis against John Sanford who had taken responsibility for John Emerson s estate and was also Irene Emerson s brother. The decision in this case again went against Scott and he then tried one more appeal in 1856. In the case of Scott v. Sanford the court stated that he should remain a slave being that he was nothing but property. The Supreme Court stated that A black man had no rights which a white man had to respect. The ... • 9. Hamlet and a Midsummer Night s Dream In one of AMND s most enduring passages, Lysander states (Act one scene one, line 134) The course of true love never did run smooth. The conflict that is inevitably born out of love is a central theme at the heart of Midsummer s Night s Dream and Hamlet, but is extended by Shakespeare not only to romantic relationships, but to familial bonds as well. The conflict is ultimately resolved in diametrically opposing ways in each play, according to the conventions of their respective genres. Hamlet is a tragedy, and therefore can result only in death, but AMND, as a comedy, uses the traditional method of marriage to resolve its conflict. (1.3.105) Polonius convinces Ophelia that she has been naГЇve and stupid to believe Hamlet s professions of love: Affection? Pooh! You speak like a green girl. (1.3. 101) In Polonius s dialogue, Shakespeare repeatedly employs images of Ophelia as a child to portray how her father psychologically controls her, by making her dependent on his commands, as a young child would: I shall obey, my lord. (1.3.136) In AMND Shakespeare constructs a similar conflict around a father daughter relationship, as Egeus wants his daughter Hermia, to marry Demetrius and not her lover, Lysander. Shakespeare draws upon ancient Greek mythology to portray his characters and their respective philosophies. Egeus displays Apollonian attributes as he paternalistically favours a strict adherence to the law above all else, even to the point of death: As she is mine, I may dispose of her...or to her death according to our law. (1.1.43) Egeus commoditises his relationship with his daughter, as he considers her a possession to be controlled and exploited. • 10. The Inauguration of the New Acropolis Museum The New Acropolis Museum was inaugurated in the year 2009, near the base of the Acropolis with a view of the Parthenon. The museum was a facility of around 226,000 square feet of glass and concrete, which cost $200 million dollars. The design was introduced in 2001, so it could be completed in time for the Olympics in 2004. This goal was unsuccessful due to legal battles that delayed the construction process for years said The New York Times. Since the museum opened it is running strong with an average of 5 million visitors per year, coming to see all the different collections. The museum is broken into three floors, offering different historical artwork. The first floor is divided into two sections, one from the archaic period and the other from Propylaia with objects that date around the classical time period to antiquity. On the first floor the visitors are greeted by magnificent sculptures of the first temples on the Acropolis. Displayed here also are votive offerings from worshippers. Some of these offerings include the archaic Korai, the Hippeis, statues of Athena the goddess, Sculptures of male figures, marble reliefs, and smaller bronze and clay offerings. The Acropolis Museumwants to conduct research on this small collection of archaic statues, which keep their color. This will help them be able to picture what it was like to live back then and hopefully help them remember my speech. I will only present facts and leave my opinion out so that it does not persuade anyone. This will establish a motive for my audience to listen to me, so that they can figure out who the killer is. From the book, I will use different learning styles to get my point across, I will also do something unexpected, and I will go review my main point. To get my point across to everyone in the audience I will use different learning styles. For the auditory learners, I will be speaking clearly, so that they can hear and understand all my information. I will be using a PowerPoint with both words and pictures for the visual learners and the visual print learners. Lastly for the kinesthetic learners I will ask for a show of hands of who has ever heard of the Zodiac Killer. I will do this so that they can be involved somehow. To keep my audience interested I will do something unexpected. I m not going to say in this paper what I will be doing, because I want it to be a surprise to everyone. • 12. Hesitation, Repression, and Indecisiveness in the Love... Impotent, pathetic, inadequate, timid. Everyone knows a J. Alfred Prufrock, and everyone has a bit of him in himself or herself. Just like Prufrock we readers have been witness to the pretentious triviality of others, the women who come and go/ Talking of Michelangelo (lines 13 14), and the lack of confidence which prevents the realization of desires. Eliot s careful choice of epigraph from Dante s Inferno reverberates throughout this poem as the logic behind Prufrock sharing his feelings with his listener. Just as Guido da Montefeltro is certain his listener shares a similar fate as himself, so to does Prufrock believe that his listener is like himself, and will never turn back and descend the stair (line 39). Prufrock s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Death also signifies Prufrock s lack of social contact and sexual stimulation. The word etherized not only means to numb, but is also suggestive of the word ethereal. Prufrock s repressed desire can be seen in his frustration with the reality of social/emotional interaction and also with the ethereal, inexpressible inner desire of his heart, not just to ask an overwhelming question , but further, to say exactly what he means as in line 104. Unable to force the moment to its crisis leaves Prufrock emotionally impotent. Unlike Marvell and his coy mistress Prufrock does not have all the time in the world to malinger, stretched on the floor. Trivializing his message of desire, as in the rhyme of lines 79 80 or referring to himself as John the Baptist only further hinders the expression of his desire. And we can only imagine in Eliot s use of religious images in which Prufrock wept and fasted, wept and prayed that Prufrock is fervently hoping for the self confidence to express his desires. Yet after the social banter/conventions of the cups, the marmalade, the tea , the porcelain and some talk of you and me Prufrock is still unable to seize the moment, to turn desire into action. Presuming that Prufrock is largely reflecting on these issues himself rather than to another listener one notices that he is unable to even mention his desires to himself, so deeply ... Increased precision and decreased risk make the automation of warriors both politically and militarily attractive. In the future, government and military leaders will have to address the numerous moral and ethical questions concerning when, where and how to utilize these lifeless soldiers. In the past, many leaders relied on the military theory from the Prussian theorist Carl Von Clausewitzbook On Warto answer similar questions. The enduring nature and profoundness suggests that the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) may have influenced Clausewitz, which is undoubtedly also a bias of this author. Many scholars have argued over its interpretation, especially with regard to the secondary trinity referenced by Clausewitz as the people, the commander with his army, and the government . One notion that is agreeable to this author is that the secondary trinity of the people, army, and government was Clausewitz attempt at the application of the theory. Another potential sector of the casino industry is the availability of Internet gambling. This will provide casino consumers with the ability to place bets through home computers and gives them a potentially low cost business model for firms that already operate casinos. It is widely believed that gambling on the Internet will eventually be legalized, regulated, and taxed. The potential for growth in the casino industry seems unlimited. According to my understanding of the two distinct disciplines, the relationship can be studied from the CSR to HRM perspective which enables the development of HRM policies and practices under a moral and ethical lens, and from the HRM to CSR link which focuses on the roles of HRM in the development and implementation of CSR strategy. I believe that there are mutual beneficial aspects of constructing a two way HRM CSR relation, however this study will maintain a realistic approach and HRM has a stronger grasp in corporate affairs compered to CSR management. This is due to mainly two reasons: first, HRM has been widely developed in research since early 1920s being therefore more utilized within corporations while CSR is a concept taking momentum now and still broadly debated. Second, there is more evidence about HRM acting as a corporate facilitator to reach positive a profitable outcomes compered to CSR strategies which are still discussed among business and political parties. • 32. Water Is The Most Important Substance On Earth Water is the most important substance on earth, all plants, animals and humans must have water to survive. Chemically, water is a compound made of two hydrogens covalently bonded to the single oxygen atom, which forms the chemical/ molecular formula 0. In nature, water appears in all three common states of matter and takes many different forms on Earth: water vapour and clouds in the sky, seawater and icebergs in the polar ocean and glaciers and rivers in the mountains. Water is tasteless, does not have an odour and is liquid at standard temperature. Water s colour has a very slight blue hue, although it appears colourless in small quantities and blue in large quantities. Water owes its blueness to the selective absorption in the red part of its visible spectrum. The absorbed protons endorse transitions to high overtone and amalgamated states of the nuclear motions of the molecule; to highly eager vibrations. To make this clearer, some of the light, hitting the surface of the ocean, is reflected back directly but most of it infiltrates the water surface interacting with its molecules. The water molecules can vibrate in three different modes when light hits it. The red, orange, yellow and green wavelengths of light are absorbed so that the remaining light we see is composed of the shorter wavelength; blues and violets. This is the main reason why the colour of water is blue. To current knowledge water is the only example in nature in which colour comes from vibrational ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Death of a Salesman and Street Car Named Desire Biff: will you take that phony dream and burn it before something happens Compare how the authors of Death of a salesman and street car named desire explore the conflict between truth and illusion Truth and illusion are utilized in Tennessee Williams Streetcar Named Desire and Arthur Miller s Death of a salesman through the use of the character; to lead the reader to a possible conclusion on the beliefs that went into the American dream that prompted people to work hard was that america was the land of opportunity while in fact that opportunity is used to manipulate those who follow this dream something that is most evidently shown in Millers main character Willy and to put forward a essential criticism of the materialistic ... This Contrasts Millers use of this dramatic technique as The Harmonious Flute is used to obscure Willys sense reality, in contrast to Williams use of it to identify Blanches reality. Unlike Blanche, Willy is compltetly oblivious to the truth and resides to his memories to conceal himself away from the reality that the American dream has failed him. The flute is reminiscent of Willys past and often symblozies when Willy is reminscing becasue he is unable to bare the truth that his American dream is failing. This shows that Willy is unable to deal with the truth due to the false reality that the maerican dream has presented him with and made him beliveing into. The best example of this is the tape recorder which Willy accodentally sets in motion. In its shrieking , unpleasent tones of a child recounting phrases, we see how awful it is for Willy to have to live an accurate account of the past such as this. This is a vivid expression of his unconscious desire to repress the truth. This is proven even before the start of the play where the first stage directions should indicate a dream rising out of reality Thurther emphiseing Milliers critic throughtout the entire play. Though while Williams and Miller both identify these Illusions as a way of their characters protecting themselfs from their societys; Blanches male dominated patriarchal society and Willy s failed american dream. • 38. Patchwork Commentary Patchwork Analysis Eavan Boland s unique poem, Patchwork, allows the reader to be privy to the private thoughts of a persona, presumably the author herself, as she struggles to answer the question of fate or destiny. Throughout the poem, while quilting alone late at night, the speaker puzzles over the randomness of the universe, utilizing the simple quilt metaphor to inspire a final epiphany. Immediately revealing the central theme of the poem as well as alluding to the narrator s apparent self doubt, the first stanza is an imperative aspect of this piece. The speaker begins by stating that she has been thinking at random on the universe, or rather, how nothing in the universe is random . So commences her journey to solve the question: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The word mechanical suggests that the woman is acting mindlessly, almost as if guided by a higher power. Fate determines that the quilt will be made, and so it will be. It guides the woman s hands as her mind once again floats away from reality and begins to explore the metaphysical world. In addition, upon describing her secondhand sewing machine , the narrator further exposes her self depreciating character. In the fifth stanza, the speaker makes inconsiderable progress in solving the crucial question regarding the randomness of the universe. As she realizes the overwhelming number of uncertainties in the universe, the woman chooses instead to concentrate on the task at hand, turning her back...to the dark or the unknowns. However, she is unable to resist the compelling temptation of mystery, and quickly attempts to contemplate the stars and bits of stars and little bits of bits which reside throughout the universe. While the bits in this statement signify randomness, the stars represent the unknown. This symbolism, coupled with the use of repetition and alliteration, emphasize the woman s sheer confusion on the matter at hand. The vast uncertainty of the universe has forced her to consider the possibility of a wholly random universe. The persona s confusion is confirmed through her question: is it craft or art? In this circumstance, craft represents a universe in which fate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He then argues as to why we should not use the banking concept of education as teachers. The teacher just deposits his or her knowledge into the children s minds without posing any real challenges or chance for student growth. The constant portrayal of what characteristics would best fit with defining what it is to be a hero, seem to focus mainly on masculine traits. The desirable traits that are illustrated in the majority of the films are being independent, strong, and most importantly a male. However, the filmMaleficent (2014), contradicts this idea. (Sneed) This proves that Disney films focused on the dominance of male characters over the females. The princess was prone to being more fragile and afraid of becoming independent. It is my aim to continue my education in psychology, with the goal of pursuing a career that contributes to our understanding of cognitive abilities in both humans and non human primates. My involvement in the academic community at the University of Georgia has contributed greatly to the refinement of my academic and career goals. Through my involvement in service organizations such as the Undergraduate Neuroscience Organization (UNO), I have gained a greater interest in how studies of the brain contribute to our understanding of the causes and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. I have theoretical research interests in comparative cognition, human animal studies, and primatebehavior. Specifically, I am interested in how cognitive abilities such as memory and attention function in primates and how this functioning compares to that of humans. These research interests developed throughout my undergraduate coursework, research, and internship experiences. As an undergraduate student at the University of Georgia, I have taken a holistic approach to my education, combining a psychological and anthropological perspective to understand how the brain works both individually and across different species. I am confident that my education thus far has prepared me for the rigor of interdisciplinary doctoral coursework. My undergraduate coursework not only underscored ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Change Is Pain Research Paper Change is pain refers to the complex connection between the anatomy of individuals brains and human behavior that makes change almost impossible. According to Rock and Schwartz (2006), psychology and neuroscience research have gained a new perspective on how different areas of the brain determine human behavior. In particular, when individuals are exposed to situations that include changing a specific behavior, there are two main reasons that make changing the behavior a pain. One of these reasons relates to the nature of human memory and its relationship to conscious attention (Rock Schwartz, 2006, p. 3). As per Rock and Schwartz (2006), routine activities that take place in the working memory area of individuals brain require less effort and energy from individuals to perform than new activities which takes place in the basal ganglia of the brain; for example, driving to work versus taking a standardized test (e.g., GRE, CPA,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Individuals will highly prefer driving to work than taking the standardized test. This results from the great energy demand that a new activity requires, which is proportional to changing a behavior. The second reason that makes change difficult is related to individuals basic brain functioning (Rock Schwartz, 2006, p. 4). As per Rock and Schwartz (2006) stated that the orbital frontal cortex of the human brain tends to perceive change as errors; consequently, this evokes overwhelming emotions that requires a high demand of energy and leads individuals to behave irrational by depriving the prefrontal brain region from energy. That is, when individuals face a change, they tend to register it as an error which in turn originates an array of emotions that disrupt their behavior. For instance, many individuals experience great fear of public speaking. If someone who is not comfortable speaking in public is asked to give a speech, that person will experience a variety of emotions that will interfere with his/her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. The Causes of Crime. What are the causes of crime essay For centuries, the one plague that human civilization faces is a disease that has no evident cure crime. Before one can even try to find solutions for it, one must understand what a crime is and the nature of crime. Crime itself is defined as any offence harmful against society. The nature of crime however deals with the motives and causes of crime, which has no one clear cut explanation. There are several different theories on the cause of crime such as heredity, gender and mental defects, but each one is not substantial enough to explain crime and why it takes place. The theory on heredity as being the source of crime is based on the idea that criminal activity is predisposed by human genes. Gender being the root of crime suggests that... What is more significant is that this capacity cannot be learned or taught or put into a person after that age with any known method of treatment. This capacity to be affected by how others feel is developed most strongly when infants and toddlers are empathically cared for by the same few people all the time people who are willing and able to meet the child s emotional needs. During the early stages of childhood, the most important part of development takes place. If there is a significant lack of attention and interaction during this time, the child may end up being drawn away from society and isolated. Sometimes it is the parents fault for not being able to raise socially competent children and other times it is institutions such as public schools. Certain children need that extra help or support that may not be provided at school. These children then end up turning to crime such as theft or drug dealing in order to compensate. Their life lesson is in the streets not in the homes or schools. Also, this idea of social norms put such an emphasis on acceptance that children who do not fit in become alienated. A healthy life needs some acceptance from friends and family, but if a child experiences a lack of it, the results could be tragic. Take for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
