People Of All Ages Share A Aspiration For Meaning,...
People of all ages share a aspiration for meaning, significance, and hope in their lives that can
lead to an underlying sense of purpose. Discovering and understanding our purpose provides us
with a basis and a map with clear directions for how we can live out life to the fullest. For each
person, the meaning of lifemay vary and be slightly different based on different cultures and morals.
In our humanistic culture, people pursue what they think they will find meaning in. Some of these
quests for meaning include success within business, prosperity in revenue, satisfying sexual desires,
entertainment, and doing good to other people. However, the knowledge and experiences in life
imposes the view that placing the needs of others before... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Meaningless! ...Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless (Ecclesiastes 1:2). King
Solomon, the writer of Ecclesiastes, had wealth beyond measure, wisdom beyond any man of
his time or ours, hundreds of women, palaces and gardens that were the envy of kingdoms, the
best food and wine, and every form of entertainment available. He said at one point that anything
his heart wanted, he pursued. And yet he summed up life under the sun life lived as though all
there is to life is what we can see with our eyes and experience with our senses is meaningless.
Why is there such a void? Coming from a christian background, we are lead to believe that God
created us for something beyond what we can experience in the here and now. Solomon said of
God, He has also set eternity in the hearts of men... (Ecclesiastes 3:11). In our hearts we are aware
that the here and now is not all that there is.
In the journal article On Pursuit of the Purpose of Life: The Shona Metaphysical Perspective, the
author Mawere justifies that loving others is an instinctive advantage that gives life a sense of
meaning and purpose. For the people of Shona, the purpose of life on earth is to love in order to
make the world a better place to live. (Mawere, 2010).
There are many types of love that exist: the love that a mother has for her child, the love shared
between a husband and a wife, and the love between friends as well as love in relationships with
the other sex. Love is present

Power Steer By Michael Pollen Summary
I was really excited to read the article Power Steer by Michael Pollen. I ve seen several of his
books at local book stores, as well as different television shows featuring his work. The purpose
of Michael Pollen s article was to educate himself and others on the process of producing
industrial steak in America, and making a financial profit along the way. He felt that Ignorance
was no longer tenable. In doing so, Michael decided to purchase an 8 month old calf numbered
534 for $598. This totaled $1.60 a day for room and board due to the cattle not being weaned yet.
Throughout Michael s educational journey, he was able to learn about the different problems
associated with animal feeding operations. This includes health problems that cattle could cause to
humans, such as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was the calving season, which began during the late winter, the spring season, which
includes branding, vaccination, and castration of the calf, and then there is the summer which
the insemination process occurred. During the fall is when weaning occurred and that is when
Michael first met his calf. Michael learned that his calf 534 ate little blue stem, green needle
grass and western grass. Michael also learned the importance of calf s living on the grass instead
of factory farms. Cattle living on farm land had fewer diseases, ate naturally, and had no use for
medications. Cows are useful in helping to prevent trees and shrubs from gaining a foothold as
well as spreading grass seeds by planting them with their hoofs and fertilizing it. The most
important lesson I think is that cows have rumens. The function of a rumen is the ability to
convert grass into protein. Humans don t have the ability to do this as Michael found out. All of
this information was useful in helping Michael learn the life process cattle 534. He was able to
learn about what calf 534 ate, how it lived, and its

The Roman Empire Essay
The Roman Empire
The Roman Empire was a strong hold over the Mediterranean for many years. Being the goal of
most all world leaders, the Romans wanted land along with their power. They set their eyes on the
valuable lands around them and the Mediterranean world as well as parts of Northern Europe and
Asia. The Roman civilization and culture was much influenced by the Phonetians and Greeks.
Later, the Romans were in control of these lands and their people. Three of their prize provinces
held at much value to them were Thrace, Macedonia, Greece. These three lands were all located in
the same area, providing a throughway to Rome for trade routes from China and the Middle east.

Many scholars and philosophers had began to discover the longtime mysteries of the world. The
Greeks had a system of writing and were very well educated. They were eventually taken over by
King Philip V of Macedonia. He made and alliance with Greece and gave them military aid in
order for control of their government and people. King Philip dreamed to make Macedonia a
world power and intended on starting in the Mediterranean. Rome had also set these same goals
for their future and there was nothing stopping them. One of Philip s allies, Hanibel, went against
him and fought him for Macedonia. The Macedonians allied with the Carthagenians and the
Romans with the Aetolian League. By 168 B.C. Rome had Macedonia in their command. After
this, the Archaen League in Greece sought freedom after the long rule of Macedonia. They tried
to fight against the mighty army of the Romans, but this only resulted int he destruction of the
city, Corinth. In 146 B.C. the Romans had abolished all leagues in Greece, and most trade was
stopped in the big port cities. Rome would be over this land for sixty years to come. Meanwhile,
the Romans realized the value of such things like gold. They soon found out that deposits of gold
and other minerals were in the uncultivated land of Thrace. The people of Thrace were for the most
part, barbaric, warlike, and unorganized. The Romans did not have as many troubles obtaining this

Egypt Open Door Policy
In The Committee by Sun Allah Ibrahim, the open door policy has resulted in an economic and
social dependency on the Western world as Egyptians pride themselves in using American and
European commodities and global ideals they believe will enrich and improve their lives and
country; however, in reality these are detrimental to their society. Through the diversification of
Western commodities into Egypt, Egyptians lose their self sufficiency and nationalist values,
allowing the Western world to exploit Egyptian resources and profit through globalization. Egyptian
society rejects their own domestic products as a result of an obsession for the West and
diversification of commodities from around the world, giving them numerous other options to...

The narrator passes by a street vendor selling consumers warm Cokes on a heated day at,
[double] the listed price on the pretext of imaginary ice (Ibrahim 137). By saying the vendor
doubled price for imaginary ice , shows the vendor is deceitful and exploits people s money by
selling them beverages in poor condition. He represents a society entranced by the idea of
individual economic prosperity, to the point of committing fraud and crime. Also, the vendor
serves as a middleman between Egypt and the Western world. While the vendor makes a small
profit from selling overpriced American beverages to Egyptian consumers, the real benefactors
are the United States and Western World that profit from the sales of many Egyptian sellers. In
the long run, the vendor destroys his nation s economy by selling Egyptians foreign goods
instead of domestic goods because the profit flows back to the Western world, not Egypt. Like
the vendor selling Coke, the privatization of public services has allowed the educated and

Core Guiding Values
Core Guiding Values My success is predicated on the intangible core guided values that reflect
the following comprehensive traits and qualities listed below. This list respectively reflects the
six encompassing disciplines that I consider paramount for both professional and personal
growth in fulfilling my goals and aspirations in life. Moreover, following these core guided
values will be the baseline in order for me to establish strategies so I can develop a system

the right critical path (i.e. staying the course when achieving my own ideal self goals by
reaching realistic millstones) that will perpetuate my own future success and personal endeavors.
Honor: Living up to your values and personal convictions; Duty: Fulfilling your obligation;

Goal Setting In Health And Social Care Essay
Practical problems arise in all work settings, and the healthcare industry is certainly no exception.
By applying motivation theories, management and directors of Health Information Services
Departments (HISDs) can solve such problems, leading to significantly happier, more motivated,
loyal employees, as well as gaining better results in productivity.
It is widely known that goal setting is a vital part of achieving success and improving overall
performance. Our modern understanding of goal setting came from Dr Edwin Locke s research in
the late 1960 s. In his 1968 article, Toward a Theory of Task Motivationand Incentives , he showed
that employees are motivated and their performance improves when they are set clear, achievable
goals, and receive appropriate feedback. He found specific, challenging goals lead to the highest
performance, as long as the goals are not too challenging.
The following five goal setting principles, according to Locke and Dr Gary Latham s 1990
published work, best improve the chance of success: Setting clear goals; setting challenging goals;
securing team commitment, gaining feedback, and considering task complexity. ... Show more

Work stress is mainly linked to work overload, so HISD management was keen to find a long term
solution to avoid having burnt out employees. The objective is to redesign healthcare work so
employees can work smarter, although this can be a very time consuming task for management to
implement. They do not want the end result to be distortion, fragmentation or work overload. In a
nutshell, restructuring jobs and reorganising work will produce the most

The Pharmacological Effect Of Antibiotics
The Pharmacological effect of antibiotics.
This practical involved the determination of susceptibility of antimicrobial agents using the Kirby
Bauer sensitivity test as well as investigating the minimal inhibitory concentration of penicillin. This
practical also demonstrated the reversal of penicillin inhibition in the presence or absence of ОІ
lactamase.
Method A nutrient agar plate containing the test organism with attenuated enteric bacteriawas
inoculated by use of a swab dipped into bacterial suspension provided. Inoculation streaks were
done on the entire plate after which the agar plate was left to dry for 5 minutes. The filter paper
disc impregnated with antibiotics was picked up by a pair of forceps, dipped in alcohol and
passed through a flame for sterilization purposes. The filter paper disc were then pressed onto the
agar plate using the forceps and incubated for 48hours at 37 degrees Celsius. The pre incubated
annual radii between the edge of the disk and the edge of the confluent were measured and the
results recorded after incubation took place.
Test tubes containing serial dilution of 1: 1000 brain heart infusion (BHI) broth attenuated with
strains of the bacteria was incubated overnight at 37 degrees Celsius. Incubation was done in the
absence or presence of increasing concentration of penicillin. 200 microliter was pipetted into the

Nebuchadnezzar s Fall Of Babylon
1 3: The phrase and I looked marks the beginning of the fourth visionary segment of Revelation as
John sees the Lamb upon Mount Zion. The slain Lamb stands on Mount Zion, the place where
God himself dwells, while the Beast only stands upon the sands of the sea (Joel 2:32 and Isaiah
2:2). The 144,000 that are with God most likely stand for the whole church of JesusChrist, the same
people in Revelation 7:4. This would not be talking about a spiritually elite people, however, and
the people are in contrast with those who whored themselves out to the beast on earth. The harpists
harping their harps in heaven emphasize the tremendous joy and worship that is going on because
of the righteous judgment of God. The people of God are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This references Nebuchadnezzar s prideful description in Daniel 4:30, where Babylon has fallen,
just as Nebuchadnezzar s reign fell. Babylon makes the nations drunk with her impurities, and
therefore corrupts the nations in her evil ways, making them drink the wine of the wrath of God
s wrath because of their unholy fornication. Those who have worshipped the beast and received
the mark on their hands or heads now must drink the wine of the wrath of God, a fit punishment
for the crimes that they committed against God. This demonstrates the eye for an eye principle,
where those who worshipped the beast are subject to due torment, such as in Psalm 60:3 and
Psalm 75:8. The Greek used here to describe God s anger, orgД“, is translated indignation. This
denotes the kind of anger that rises out of a settled disposition, an accurate description of the
wrath of God. l This wine is full strength as it is not broken down in any way, and the torment
itself is with fire and sulfur, a symbol of judgment upon those who are unbelievers. This is done in
the presence of the Lamb, meaning that those who denied Christ will be forced to acknowledge
Him as they are punished justly in His

Hitler s Reason To The People Of Hitler And Adolf Hitler
AFTER the First World War Germany was left in ruins, the years after the war there were many
violent disputes and problems began to grow quickly across the country. After fingers were
pointed at Germany and the Treaty of Versailles had been signed, Germany needed someone to
blame for their defeat in the war. Blame was put on politicians who tried to negotiate peace, the
people of Germanywanted strong leadership and needed a solution to the country s political,
economical and social issues. The Treaty of Versailles was one of the main reasons as to why the
people of Germany were angry and Adolf Hitlerused this topic perfectly to appeal to a much wider
audience. The Nazi s didn t just promise to fix these issues, they first used them, fueled off them
and fed them to the German people, what they did was unique and it worked, so I will tell you...
This is how Hitler and the Nazi party used Germany s problems to gain the support of the Germans
and rise to power.
Adolf Hitler s promise to eradicate the Treaty of Versailles and restore German pride was a key
factor in how the Nazi party captured the support of the german people. This is evident in an
extract of a speech by Hitler in October 1920 (Document 9), We need some national pride again...
We need a national will just as much. In order to smash this disgraceful peace treaty, we must
regard every means as justified... We are not a class party, but a party of honest workers. The
Treaty of Versailles was an imposed settlement

Social Media And Internet Privacy
It took the radio 38 years, the television 13 years, and the World Wide Web 4 years to reach 50
million users (Statistic Brain). As of September 2017, research now shows that there are over a
billion people worldwide who use the internet. People utilize the internet because it offers endless
unfettered access to copious quantities of diverse data. Statistics confirm that 58% of people have
at least one social network profile, revealing that social media plays a significant part in the internet
world. The reason for this is that social networks are portrayed as an ideal method to keep up with
family and friends; especially if those mentioned live far away. What the internet and social
networks doesn t reveal, but rather conceals, is the monstrous lack of secrecy they possess. Until
preventive methods are established by either the government or an individual; the internet will
continue to obtain and distribute individuals private information to various networks; whether with
or without consent.
Jim Harper s essay Web Users Get as Much as They Give, approaches the internet privacy
controversy with the reap what you sow mentality. Harper explains that people freely provide
intimate information in exchange for the steady flow of unlimited free material. Harper says that is
good and natural to be concerned about internet privacy, because [t]he internet is an interactive

The Puzzle Of 15 Puzzle
N Puzzle is a sliding puzzle that consists of a frame of numbered square tiles in random order with
one tile missing. The N Puzzle is known in finite versions such as the 8 puzzle (a 3x3 board) and
the 15 puzzle (a 4x4 board), and with various names like sliding block , tile puzzle , etc. [1][2]
The 15 puzzle is a sliding square puzzle commonly attributed to Sam Loyd. However, research by
Slocum and Sonneveld (2006) has revealed that Sam Loyd did not invent the 15 puzzle and had
nothing to do with promoting or popularizing it. The puzzle craze that was created by the 15
puzzle began in January 1880 in the United States and in April in Europe and ended by July
1880. Loyd first claimed in 1891 that he invented the puzzle, and he continued until his death a 20
year campaign to falsely take credit for the puzzle. The actual inventor was Noyes Chapman, the
Postmaster of Canastota, New York, and he applied for a patent in March 1880. [4]
The N Puzzle is a board game for a single player. It consists of (N^2 1) numbered squared tiles in
random order, and one blank space ( a missing tile ). The object of the puzzle is to rearrange the
tiles in order by making sliding moves that use the empty space, using the fewest moves. Moves of
the puzzle are made by sliding an adjacent tile into the empty space. Only tiles that are horizontally
or vertically adjacent to the blank space (not diagonally adjacent) may be moved. [2]
The N puzzle game provides a good framework for

Ben Quilty Holden Torana Analysis
Ben Quilty was born in 1973 and is an Australian Artist. He works predominantly in an impasto
style. This term describes the thickly textured paint that, when used, appears three dimensional,
often applied by Quilty with a palette knife or brush and leaving the brush strokes visible. Quilty
s style began as quite masculine, with a lot of his images full of bravado and death metal faces.
He has progressed from this and now produces a range of extensively varied pieces. Quilty has
been widely recognised for his artwork. Quilty s paintings of his Holden Torana produced a sell

he used in the making of Beryl. This is real texture, as if I ran my hand across it I would feel the

Theme of Disguise in Twelfth Night
The notion of disguise is very important theme within Twelfth Night. From my point of view I feel
that the crux of the play is primarily based on this concept. Indeed there s something in it that is
deceivable summarizes this point precisely. Disguise runs like a thread through the play from start

Also, perhaps Viola is in disguise herself. She can see through other people s disguises or flaws,

Chin A Global Superpower Essay
China has become a global superpower. Its rise to the top of the trading chain has become a key
factor into what it s become today. With its accelerated population over the last years, it s
economic value has flourished its economy to a wide extent. There is also a saying, that with every
good thing, there is always something bad. That s when China s environmental factors come to
play. In the last twenty years, the quality of life in china has been decaying. The air surrounding
most of the major cities in china are filled with horrible, toxic chemicals that has brought worldwide
attention to this issue. Not only that, but contaminated and scarce water in China also play large
roles in the impact of the environment. I believe that the increase in population, coalprocessing, and
manufacturing of goods, have brought about environmental damages, but has also created
economic stability. In the Shanxi Province sits Linfen, one of the most polluted cities not only
china but the world. Since 1978, Linfen has been China s number one resource in coal producing
energy. China needed large amounts of sufficient energy for its big manufacturers and for its rapid
increase in population. In the past, linfen was a pleasant farming community and also mentioned
as the fruit and flower town . Its name comes from the Fen River in which its sits on. It was widely
recognized as the city with running natural water springs. In the 1930 s, the town had less than a

In God of Carnage, although it seems as if the protagonist is not just one character and each of the
characters propels the story, I believe that Veronica is the protagonist. She is the person to, not only
open the show, but introduce the situation that will later have to be solved at the end of the play.
She immediately introduces the problem and through the entirety of the play pushes forward and
attempts to bring this whole circumstance to a conclusion. It is even stated that it was Veronica s

Donald J. Trump s Blueprint For America
Donald J. Trump is an out standing leader. He know what he want. He knows how to fight for
what he wants. He is all action and he does not give false promise. He will truly make America
Great Again. This book was awesome. Donald J. Trump wants to place his name all over USA
rebuilding our infrastructure, knowing he had something to do with building s that will last
centuries. He wants the world to again see the greatness in our country. Sure he has a ego, but
that is what drives those who want to succeed. Donald J. Trump outlines his plans to make USA
great again through better leadership and action. Too much empty talk, not enough action. We
the People are tired of these politicians who talk their way into office and then fail to live up to
what they promised. Trump will restore America to its former greatness, a greatness we have
not seen since the Reagan years. This book is also a call for the return of genuine patriotism and
taking pride in our country. We the People know that USA is the greatest country in the world
and we need to put someone in the Oval Office who will actually Lead and put that greatness on
display by taking Action. Donald J. Trump blueprint for USA is certainly on the right track and
there are specific laid out here. USA is facing some very serious problem. We need a tough
leader who is not a puppet for the special interest groups. Donald J. Trump is using donors, as
well as his own money to fund his campaign. Of course this does not sit well with the lobbyist and
special interest groups looking to own the next President. The Washington Times reports the total
debt stood at $ 10.6 when the president came into office and will hit $ 20 trillion as his term ends

Impact Of St Augustine Of Hippo
A very influential and great philosopher and theologian of Late Antiquity, Saint Augustine of Hippo
is the most important of the Latin Church Fathers. His works, especially his Confessions (a self
biography), On Christian Doctrine and City of God, helped distinguish the Church in Western
Europe from the Church as it developed elsewhere. In Ancient Rome, the power of speech was
appropriated from the Greeks and expanded upon and innovated. The classical master of rhetoric
would be the work of St. Augustine which aid in the expansion and spread of Christianity. W. R.
Johnson has called Augustine the last of the great ancient rhetoricians. Augustine public speaking

St. Augustine was a major Christian theorist who argued that it would be foolish for truth to take its
stand unarmed against falsehood. Augustine argued that the human mind apprehends universal,
objective, unchanging, and necessary truths that are superior to the human mind itself. Thus, an
eternal God exists to explain these eternal truths, whereas his thoughts profoundly influenced the
medieval worldview. He defended the use of rhetoric and helped to preserve its study and usage. St.
Augustine believed that human beings communicate through signs and persuading Christians to
lead a holy life.
St. Augustine believes truth comes from the divine and believes scripture to be divinely inspired,
set down by magnificent men through whom the divine speaks. Augustine s role in the
Christianization of rhetoric reveals clearly that Augustine thought the art of eloquence should be
put into active service, and not rejected out of hand because it is tainted with paganism. He wants
to offer guidance to those who will be treating the Scriptures, and who must offer explanations of
the sacred writings to others. He looks to advise his clergy on a way of

Stereotypes Of Deaf Culture
A culture is usually accompanied by their own sets of labels whether it being good, bad, true, or
false. Deaf culture is one of those cultures that has lists of common stereotypes, and issues they
face constantly on a daily basis. Some of most common misconceptions are: Deaf can not talk,
laugh, have good jobs, can not drive, all deaf sign, and so many more. Marlee Matlin, is a deaf
actress who is very popular and successful. She has starred in many movies, and shows over the
years, playing a deaf role in each part. Her success shows that Deaf are capable of great
achievement. In an article about Matlin winning a Ruderman prize, they said The $100,000
award will be given to the Oscar winner on behalf of the Ruderman Family Foundation for her
work promoting the inclusion of people with disabilities in Hollywood. (Jerusalem post) It is
very inspiring to see people who are thought to be different win oscars and other awards. Even
though she choses not to talk, she has a lot of talent and her acting skills are amazing due to her
passion for her career. If a Deaf or Hard of Hearing person wants to reach a goal, they are very
much able to achieve it. They may have to work harder, but it does not stop them. Another
stereotype that can be seen as true, but also not; is that Deaf can not talk. Using their voices is
something they choose to do or not. Some feel comfortable with speaking, or they lost their hearing
after knowing how to speak; so they still use their voices. And

Reston is a census designated place located in Northern Virginia s Fairfax County, about 20

Driverless Vehicles Essay
In recent discussions of growing technology, a controversial issue has been whether we are ready
for the advancements of driverless vehicles. On the one hand, some argue that these
advancements have already proven that we are ready. On the other hand, however, others argue
that we need to have more experience with the technology before we can be ready. In sum, then,
the issue is are we ready or not for driver less cars. While others think that driverless vehicles can t
be trusted yet without a commission to help lawmakers with regulating the vehicles and
government officials that know more about this technology to better watch over it, I believe that we
are ready for this new evolving automobilebecause driverless vehicles already has too much

Beowulf Christian Beliefs
The epic poem of Beowulf is one of the most well known stories in European history. The poem,
believed to be first written in 1000 CE, though probably around at least 300 years older, is a
story of a Geatish hero by the name of Beowulf who travels to the Danes to earn valor and
heroism for his name. In the epic there are many examples of what Thomas Hill refers to as
peculiar spiritual atmosphere , this is the combination of both pagan and Christian beliefs and
values in the epic. While many other early medieval texts are either emphatically and militantly
Christian or unapologetically pagan or secular, in their viewpoint Beowulfis neither (Hill 198 199).

knowledge of Noah and his sons without having access to the revealed knowledge of God which
was granted to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob a tradition culminate by the revelation of the Law to
Moses and continued by the charismatic tradition of prophecy in Israel. Every reference in the
poem which touches on religion can be understood in these terms except for one lines 179 83 in
which the poet apparently condemns Hrothgar and the Danes for idol worship (Hill 202). The
epic holds the values of Pagan ancestors and their Christian beliefs to be values that should be
upheld in their most important traditions. Even if their ancestors weren t Christian, they still
followed their value system. Many of the characters in the epic seem to talk in a monotheistic
perspective that the Germanic warriors of the time would not have used. This shows evidence
that the epic was recorded by a monk who held strong Christian values. For example, after the
warriors finished their sea voyage to the Danes, they praised God for giving them safe journey,
while the warriors of the time would have been more likely to praise either Thor or Odin, gods of
the religion practiced at the time in that area. Also, the condemnation of idol worship, when
Beowulf condemned the idol worship

Tracking (MPPT) of a PV system with energy storage powering DC motor pump system during
isolationand load variations. First, the total model of the entire system is obtained, including the
PV, the boost converter, the storage system, and the DC motor pump system. The controller
performance with the proposed system is studied with a DC motor load deriving a pump of
certain mechanical power. Moreover, the proposed system performance with the optimal approach
in case of applying MPPT is compared with the system in case of operating without MPPT. The
simulation results show that the performance of proposed system in case of operating at MPPT is
improved by about 43% more than at operating without MPPT condition. Index Terms Photovoltaic;

Sexual Violence In Ancient Greek Society
Introduction
Every two minutes someone is sexually assaulted in the United States. Moving closer to home, on
our college campuses, one third of women will be victims of sexual violence before they graduate
from a college or university in the United States. Within our seven person student group at Boston
University, three of our members are at a high risk of being victims of sexual violence before
earning our degrees. The Center of Disease Control and Prevention defines sexual violence as, Any

Based on the current population, this figure adds up to about one billion women. Statistics on
the history of sexual assault are unreliable, as much of the data collected in countries are merely
estimates or non existent. Today, however, the amount of data being collected worldwide on
Sexual Violence has increased (Figure 1). UN HABITAT for example, has taken surveys on
violence, mostly in Africa, to try to help with policy creation. UN Women, an organization
within the United Nations devoted to gender equality and the empowerment of women, states
that at least 119 countries have passed laws on domestic violence, 125 have laws on sexual
harassment and 52 have laws on marital rape (Facts and Figures: Ending Violence against
Women). Even with the existence of these laws, not all countries are compliant with the
international standards on sexual violence. Much of this has to do with traditions such as early
marriage or genital mutilation. Sexual assault today is often used as a tactic of war, as it has
been in the past. An example of this is shown in Bosnia where it is believed that more than
20,000 Muslim girls have been raped there as a form of ethnic cleansing since 1992 (Sexual
Violence as a Weapon of War ). After a UN Declaration in 1993, thousands of organizations have
been created to help end sexual violence worldwide. In 2008, UN Secretary General Ban Ki moon

Summer Of The Seventeenth Doll is a timeless play as it can be transposed to be as relevant today
as when it was written. The play is definitely a tragi comedy but more than the ideas raised in the
statement the play is about change and the inability for some to deal with it, the battle between
dreamand reality and loyalty and mateship. It also serves as a social document of Australia in the
1950s. Lawler uses symbols, the actions of the characters, the structure of the playand mise en scene
to effectively portray his feelings to the audience.
The main theme expressed in the play is change and the characters inability to cope with this. Like
many working class people from this time the characters in the play are fairly uneducated ... Show

She embraced the change that was happening and Olive mistakes this for treachery. The
downfall of the characters (especially Olive) really is rather tragic. In the final scene Roo

Her dreams are now shattered and she sees Roo as the one who has taken them from her; I want
what I had before. You give it back to me give me back what you ve taken. (Pg. 93) Change is
inevitable and a person has to learn that the same pattern of living cannot serve them feasibly

Summer Of The Seventeenth Doll a battle between dreams and reality. The characters are living
in a dream world where everything for them is perfect. This, of course, is until Pearl comes
along and sees through the thin façade of their existence; Glamorous nights! (Pg. 57) she
scoffs at their seemingly pathetic excuse for a New Years Eve party. She is the classic realist in
the play, as is Emma, and brings reality to the characters lives. These two also create an
exceptional contrast and help to magnify Olive s illusions. Olive s dream of living a carefree
life forever is shattered when she is brought down to a reality which she refuses to accept; the lay
off season is not what it once was, and Roo is no longer the Aussie hero she thought him to be.

Similarities And Differences Between The American Wedding...
There are many similarities and differences between the American wedding tradition and an Indian
wedding tradition. Indian weddings have different attire, the groom doesn t wait at the altar, and
there isn t a priest to facilitate the marriage. Though they have differences, they also have some of
the same activities involved in the wedding. Both traditions have a get together at the end, both
have pre wedding ceremonies, and during the wedding someone has to give the bride away.

Even though India and America itself have their differences their wedding traditions are a little

Beethoven 5th Symphony Essay
Symphony No.5 in C minor, ensembles work by German composer Ludwig Van Beethoven.
Generally perceived by the unfavorable four note opening theme frequently translated as the
musical appearance of fate knocking at the door.
This hard hitting piece included flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, horns, trumpets, timpani, and
groups of violins, piccolo, contrabassoon, and trombones. The rhythm of the 5th symphony was
very important. Beethoven created a tempo allegro con brio (fast with spirit). I think him doing
this worked well with this piece and made it that much more creative. As for the tone color, that s
a hard one. There is no overall tone color for the whole symphony. The harmony was mainly
minor mode. The notes were very present and it got easier to hear and notice the instruments once

The Use Of Oxymorons In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
It s often said that heartbreak teaches a lesson that nobody want to hear but will eventually have
to learn. It s a lesson that provides a certain wisdom and maturity that can only be achieved after
heartbreak takes its course, without it finding love is like finding the end of a maze in pitch dark.
In William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, this claim is proved throughout act 1, scene 1 through
the results of Romeo s premature heartbreak with Rosaline. Shakespeare uses oxymorons to reveal
Romeo as a character that is melodramatic along with being ill experienced when it comes to love.
Through oxymorons, Shakespeare is able to build Romeo s façade as a character with a boy like
comprehension of love. In Act 1, Scene 1, after a fight between the Capulets and the Montagues
breaks out, Romeo who was not involved in the fight tries to figure out why the fights continue to

Analysis Of The Movie Orange Is The New Black
The Netflix original series, Orange Is the New Black takes a consumerist approach to sexuality, by
repetitively featuring sexual relations among inmates as a way to attract viewers. (Schwan) Orange
Is the New Black neglects to explore emotional attachment beyond a need to fulfill sexual needs and
minimize loneliness while in prison. Bisexual female characters, if given the opportunity, often
leave their female partner for a relationship with a male, downgrading the realism of an actual
bisexual lifestyle. Although lesbian activity is presented throughout, only women with this body
type are presented in a highly sexualized male gaze viewpoint. (TrierBieniek) The sexual relations
presented display an objectifying, exploitative portrayal of lesbian sexuality. (Schwan) Although,
Orange Is the New Black s cast is exceptionally diverse, the show only films sex scenes between
slender inmates. Ultimately, the show presents LGBTQ characters in a non threatening light, but

This Way For The Gas Ladies And Gentlemen Summary
I definitely have never taken a class quite like this one, to say the least. Overall, I enjoyed the
novels, the lectures, and brief Russian history very much. There s a reason I never missed a
class I liked going. However, the attendance and participation was not ideal. It actually really
pissed me off. Not your fault I understand where you re coming from with having attendance not
a priority, especially due to health. But it does suck when students take advantage. Yes, people
get sick. Though, when students say they are simply too busy, I don t buy it. It s a ridiculous
excuse. We have a lot of time during the day. On top of that, students enroll in a course fully
knowing the days and hours the class is scheduled. So, yeah, miss a few days,... Show more content

I don t know about you, but when I read fiction with historical events involved, I m engaged but
unsettled. As if, I m in the wrong to be reading these words from this writer s voice who is
attempting to create an already done past in order to give readers something enjoyable. This
Way for the Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen by Tadeusz Borowski has been one of those types. A
heart wrenching short story and I hate that I love it. Why do we like reading about the past that
s gone? More importantly, a past so horrific and cruel, then created into a fiction to please our
curiosity of what we will never understand? Facts and numbers can only go so far. If you can t
tell already, I m big on quotes. Almost every class I take, I find myself writing down phrases or
ideas people say. I have quite a handful from you and I think they express the whole point of this
Russian novels class. At least, in my opinion. Moreover, it relates to the whole dilemma of
translations as adaptations and interpretations... as you ll notice based off of these quotes. The
context of each quote is gone. Maybe, the all add up together, maybe they don t and are just
random phrases. Meaning, even when we talk in the same language, it is a translation, in a sense.

The Epidemic Of Mass Incarceration Essay
Introduction The epidemic of mass incarceration affects many families within the United States.
The problems of mass incarceration have been echoed far and wide, but it was not until recent
years that the issue has been acknowledged, let alone fully addressed. Authors such as MK Asante
and Bryan Stevenson, and filmmakers such as Ava Duvernay, have all discussed mass incarceration
and its common threads such as the collapse of family structures, damage to mental, physical, and
communal health, amongst other lasting impacts. Despite the commonalities, each artist takes on a
different perspective on the issue and presents it in a different light. Essay A MK Asante, in his
book Buck: The Memoir, highlights the devastation of mass incarceration on the family structure
and on individuals, particularly young individuals, who are incarcerated. Asante utilizes an
informal tone and jargon the way in which the penal and justice systems dehumanizes those it is
meant to reform. Asante s informal approach and use of jargon turns the issue of mass
incarceration into a conversation that engages readers. His feelings about the penal system and
justice system are spelled out in the form of a narrative, thus making it easier for the reader to
remain engaged. Brian Stevenson focuses on a variety of factors and their contribution to mass
incarceration such as a lack of knowledge about mental health and the deterioration of one s well
being as a result of imprisonment. He utilizes anecdotes

The Dark Knight And Inception
There are many successful directors who have produced at least one blockbuster film that is
critically acclaimed, and Christopher Nolan has been able to do this several times. Christopher
Nolan began directing movies in 1998 and has directed fourteen movies since 1998. The film critic
Alissa Wilkinson notes in her article The films of Christopher Nolan, explained, Nolan has shown
himself to be interested in both entertaining audiences and making them think, in pushing the
boundaries of what they believe a movie can and should be . Christopher Nolan also often deals
with the subjects of time, memory, and life philosophies that drive movies and characters. Two of
Nolan s most prominent films through his whole career have been the Dark Knight(2008) and
Inception(2010). Both of the films show how Nolan s movies end ambiguously and how each
protagonists in his films has an antagonist with opposite philosophies and beliefs.
Inception is a film that contains a protagonist and antagonists with opposing philosophical views
and beliefs. The movie includes examples of the belief that the world is real conflicting with the
belief that the world is a dream with death as the only way out. For instance in one part of the
movie Dom is argueing with Mal that they are in the real world as they both stand on the
window ledge of opposing buildings. Mal begs Dom to come with her as she says this world is a
dream and that the only way to wake up is by jumping.Dom tries to tell her that they are

In Matthew 17, during Jesus s transfiguration, the glory of God shined upon Jesus. The reason for
the light was because powerful searchlights from a spaceship shone onto him. Jesus s death was
only to make it known that the true origin of life is from the Elohim. Jesus was resurrected by the
creators using their advanced technology. So, the Raelians have explained most of the biggest
things that happened in the Bible happened because the Creators have such advanced technology.
According to the Creators, about 22,000 years ago aliens became very advanced and sophisticated
in their technology and understandings. They created a beast that was extremely dangerous. When
it escaped from them, it attacked and killed several of their people. The aliens then decided they
needed a new planet with which to experiment in DNA manipulations. They decided that Earth
would be good to try out new things at. While experimenting, they created human beings in their
own image. They didn t tell the humans about their technical knowledge, including how to make
their life spans longer. In this Bible, this was called the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. The
Creators believed that if the humans knew too much, the humans would become too smart and
dangerous. Known as the Serpent in the Bible, there were a group of alien creators who thought
that the humans should know as much as they could.

Christians Have All Of God
Christians have certain responsibilities to uphold in order to call themselves Christians . To be
a said, Christian , is not simply believing in God, but having a devoted relationship with him and
living every aspect of life with the all omnipotent creator as the center. Throughout my life I
have fallen short of these expectations again and again in a cycle we call, sin. However, God
forgives this sin daily with such grace and mercy. I believe God will use my sin, my life, in
ways that I can not even begin to fathom, to further his kingdom. This past summer I served as a
counselor at a local christian camp. During my first week of counseling I met a boy named
Blake. Blake was the sort of kid who walked into indoor registration with his shades on, sleeves
rolled up and bandanas plastered on his arms and legs. The kid that everyone warned you about,
the kid nobody wanted. I observed at Blake that first day and felt a sense of empathy and
compassion. I remember seeing this kid at previous camps. The kid that came from a broken
home, a rough neighbourhood or simply had a tough teacher. The one that everyone wanted to
avoid, despite being in a Christian camp. During quiet devotion time on the second day, I took
the station Blake had lumped himself into. He had sunk himself down into a bag of balls so you
could barely see his small body as he snickered in rebellion. His other friends play basketball and
giggle at him. I walk in and they instantly soften their laughter and

Types of Changing in Looking for Alibrandi Essay
There are many types of change, change in perspective, emotional change, physically change and
world change. In Looking for Alibrandi, the author, Melina Marchetta demonstrates, the concept of
change not only through the main character, Josephine, but also some other minor characters such
as Michael Andretti and John Barton though the majority is shown through Josephine. The poem,
The Door by Miroslav Holub is very similar to Looking for Alibrandi as it also shows the concept
of change but it tells us that change can mean that anything could happen even if that anything is
nothing. Change can be good, it can be bad, change can be anything and it can even start
relationships. Relationships can be a catalyst for change; it can start... Show more content on

As the novel progresses she starts to realize that it doesn t matter where you come from, you re
as special as anyone else, she says I m an Australian with Italian blood flowing rapidly through
my veins. I ll say that with pride, because it s pride that I feel (By using repetition of the word
pride demonstrates her change in self perception and her confidence in her cultural identity, it
also re enforces that she has pride in herself). After figuring out that being Italian and Australian
doesn t matter, she reassures herself, Jacob says You people should go back to your own
country if you re so confused. Josie responds This is my country, I whispered. (The fact that she
whispers demonstrates her shock and also her lack of conviction that she truly belongs which
shows us that she has accepted her culture and heritage.) Therefore I have learnt that change can
show us things that we ve never seen before and with change, we learn to accept things for the
better. As opposed to positive, change can be negative, negative change can influence the other
people around you and change them as well. In the novel, John Barton dies; this death negatively
influences the people close to him like Josie. Before John dies, Josie has a crush on him and says
to us, Picture this. School Captain of St Anthony s. Son of a member of Parliament. Greatest
debater who ever lived. Good looking.

Descriptive Essay On The Giant Lobster
The Giant Lobster One day, David and his family decided to go on a vacation to maine like they
do every summer. They originally lived in West Hartford, Connecticut. David loved connecticut
and so did his three brothers, Steven, Rob, and Peter. They all packed their bags and got in their
maveric and headed off. They sung road trip songs, and played their road trip games. They
eventually got bored and just slept. The next morning, they all woke from their nice slumber
and jumped out of the car. We re here! We re here! Steven yelped as he was running for the
cottage. The boys all ran after their brother and get their swim trunks on so they could go down
to the beach and explore. Steven, Peter, and Rob wanted to build sand castles as tall as the sky
but, dave wanted to go explore and look for cool animals. So, Dave decided to leave his older
brothers and explore by himself. As he walked along the harbor when he came across something
exhilarating. A giant lobster!! AAAAAHHHH dave screamed as he ran for his brothers. The
brothers were alarmed and instantly jumped up and ran to their little brother. What s wrong!?
Rob questioned grabbing his brother by the shoulders to calm him down. Dave s long bleach
blond hair covered his face as he explained what he saw. He said that it was huge! At least 11 feet
long and bright blue. Its large, sea green eyes were staring at him as if it knew who he was. Its
long nose hair things were pointing as if accusing dave. That sounds awful!! his three brothers
said in unison. Dave nodded and walked off. With his head down, he kicked up the sand as if he
was playing soccer with an imaginary ball. He wanted to walk back to the harbor and apologize
to the lobster for his alarmed reaction even though he knew the lobster wouldn t understand him.
But, he decided not to because he didn t want to look like a fool. So, he decided to walk back to
the cottage and read. While dave was reading, the lobster had built enough strength to walk. So,
he got up off his side and went into the town to get help so he could find his family and get back
to the water. As he walked through town, he learned a lot. He learned that people were scaredy
cats and that he was one too!

  • 2. People Of All Ages Share A Aspiration For Meaning,... People of all ages share a aspiration for meaning, significance, and hope in their lives that can lead to an underlying sense of purpose. Discovering and understanding our purpose provides us with a basis and a map with clear directions for how we can live out life to the fullest. For each person, the meaning of lifemay vary and be slightly different based on different cultures and morals. In our humanistic culture, people pursue what they think they will find meaning in. Some of these quests for meaning include success within business, prosperity in revenue, satisfying sexual desires, entertainment, and doing good to other people. However, the knowledge and experiences in life imposes the view that placing the needs of others before... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Meaningless! ...Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless (Ecclesiastes 1:2). King Solomon, the writer of Ecclesiastes, had wealth beyond measure, wisdom beyond any man of his time or ours, hundreds of women, palaces and gardens that were the envy of kingdoms, the best food and wine, and every form of entertainment available. He said at one point that anything his heart wanted, he pursued. And yet he summed up life under the sun life lived as though all there is to life is what we can see with our eyes and experience with our senses is meaningless. Why is there such a void? Coming from a christian background, we are lead to believe that God created us for something beyond what we can experience in the here and now. Solomon said of God, He has also set eternity in the hearts of men... (Ecclesiastes 3:11). In our hearts we are aware that the here and now is not all that there is. In the journal article On Pursuit of the Purpose of Life: The Shona Metaphysical Perspective, the author Mawere justifies that loving others is an instinctive advantage that gives life a sense of meaning and purpose. For the people of Shona, the purpose of life on earth is to love in order to make the world a better place to live. (Mawere, 2010). There are many types of love that exist: the love that a mother has for her child, the love shared between a husband and a wife, and the love between friends as well as love in relationships with the other sex. • 3. Power Steer By Michael Pollen Summary I was really excited to read the article Power Steer by Michael Pollen. I ve seen several of his books at local book stores, as well as different television shows featuring his work. The purpose of Michael Pollen s article was to educate himself and others on the process of producing industrial steak in America, and making a financial profit along the way. He felt that Ignorance was no longer tenable. In doing so, Michael decided to purchase an 8 month old calf numbered 534 for $598. This totaled $1.60 a day for room and board due to the cattle not being weaned yet. Throughout Michael s educational journey, he was able to learn about the different problems associated with animal feeding operations. This includes health problems that cattle could cause to humans, such as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was the calving season, which began during the late winter, the spring season, which includes branding, vaccination, and castration of the calf, and then there is the summer which the insemination process occurred. During the fall is when weaning occurred and that is when Michael first met his calf. Michael learned that his calf 534 ate little blue stem, green needle grass and western grass. Michael also learned the importance of calf s living on the grass instead of factory farms. Cattle living on farm land had fewer diseases, ate naturally, and had no use for medications. Cows are useful in helping to prevent trees and shrubs from gaining a foothold as well as spreading grass seeds by planting them with their hoofs and fertilizing it. The most important lesson I think is that cows have rumens. The function of a rumen is the ability to convert grass into protein. Humans don t have the ability to do this as Michael found out. All of this information was useful in helping Michael learn the life process cattle 534. He was able to learn about what calf 534 ate, how it lived, and its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Roman Empire Essay The Roman Empire The Roman Empire was a strong hold over the Mediterranean for many years. Being the goal of most all world leaders, the Romans wanted land along with their power. They set their eyes on the valuable lands around them and the Mediterranean world as well as parts of Northern Europe and Asia. The Roman civilization and culture was much influenced by the Phonetians and Greeks. Later, the Romans were in control of these lands and their people. Three of their prize provinces held at much value to them were Thrace, Macedonia, Greece. These three lands were all located in the same area, providing a throughway to Rome for trade routes from China and the Middle east. Thrace, being on the south western coast of the Black Sea ... They were eventually taken over by King Philip V of Macedonia. He made and alliance with Greece and gave them military aid in order for control of their government and people. King Philip dreamed to make Macedonia a world power and intended on starting in the Mediterranean. Rome had also set these same goals for their future and there was nothing stopping them. One of Philip s allies, Hanibel, went against him and fought him for Macedonia. The Macedonians allied with the Carthagenians and the Romans with the Aetolian League. By 168 B.C. Rome had Macedonia in their command. After this, the Archaen League in Greece sought freedom after the long rule of Macedonia. They tried to fight against the mighty army of the Romans, but this only resulted int he destruction of the city, Corinth. In 146 B.C. the Romans had abolished all leagues in Greece, and most trade was stopped in the big port cities. Rome would be over this land for sixty years to come. Meanwhile, the Romans realized the value of such things like gold. They soon found out that deposits of gold and other minerals were in the uncultivated land of Thrace. The people of Thrace were for the most part, barbaric, warlike, and unorganized. The Romans did not have as many troubles obtaining this land, considering the people ... • 5. Egypt Open Door Policy In The Committee by Sun Allah Ibrahim, the open door policy has resulted in an economic and social dependency on the Western world as Egyptians pride themselves in using American and European commodities and global ideals they believe will enrich and improve their lives and country; however, in reality these are detrimental to their society. Through the diversification of Western commodities into Egypt, Egyptians lose their self sufficiency and nationalist values, allowing the Western world to exploit Egyptian resources and profit through globalization. By saying the vendor doubled price for imaginary ice , shows the vendor is deceitful and exploits people s money by selling them beverages in poor condition. He represents a society entranced by the idea of individual economic prosperity, to the point of committing fraud and crime. Also, the vendor serves as a middleman between Egypt and the Western world. While the vendor makes a small profit from selling overpriced American beverages to Egyptian consumers, the real benefactors are the United States and Western World that profit from the sales of many Egyptian sellers. In the long run, the vendor destroys his nation s economy by selling Egyptians foreign goods instead of domestic goods because the profit flows back to the Western world, not Egypt. • 8. Goal Setting In Health And Social Care Essay Practical problems arise in all work settings, and the healthcare industry is certainly no exception. By applying motivation theories, management and directors of Health Information Services Departments (HISDs) can solve such problems, leading to significantly happier, more motivated, loyal employees, as well as gaining better results in productivity. It is widely known that goal setting is a vital part of achieving success and improving overall performance. Our modern understanding of goal setting came from Dr Edwin Locke s research in the late 1960 s. In his 1968 article, Toward a Theory of Task Motivationand Incentives , he showed that employees are motivated and their performance improves when they are set clear, achievable goals, and receive appropriate feedback. He found specific, challenging goals lead to the highest performance, as long as the goals are not too challenging. The following five goal setting principles, according to Locke and Dr Gary Latham s 1990 published work, best improve the chance of success: Setting clear goals; setting challenging goals; securing team commitment, gaining feedback, and considering task complexity. ... In the Latin world, this is the hardest part parents go through. Because they always have their child by their side it s tough to let them go. Even if it was only a week, that was a big moment for them. Take care, Mija (daughter). My mom would say a billion times. I love you, Mom. I love you, Dad. • 11. Nebuchadnezzar s Fall Of Babylon 1 3: The phrase and I looked marks the beginning of the fourth visionary segment of Revelation as John sees the Lamb upon Mount Zion. The slain Lamb stands on Mount Zion, the place where God himself dwells, while the Beast only stands upon the sands of the sea (Joel 2:32 and Isaiah 2:2). The 144,000 that are with God most likely stand for the whole church of JesusChrist, the same people in Revelation 7:4. This would not be talking about a spiritually elite people, however, and the people are in contrast with those who whored themselves out to the beast on earth. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This references Nebuchadnezzar s prideful description in Daniel 4:30, where Babylon has fallen, just as Nebuchadnezzar s reign fell. Babylon makes the nations drunk with her impurities, and therefore corrupts the nations in her evil ways, making them drink the wine of the wrath of God s wrath because of their unholy fornication. Those who have worshipped the beast and received the mark on their hands or heads now must drink the wine of the wrath of God, a fit punishment for the crimes that they committed against God. This demonstrates the eye for an eye principle, where those who worshipped the beast are subject to due torment, such as in Psalm 60:3 and Psalm 75:8. The Greek used here to describe God s anger, orgД“, is translated indignation. This denotes the kind of anger that rises out of a settled disposition, an accurate description of the wrath of God. l This wine is full strength as it is not broken down in any way, and the torment itself is with fire and sulfur, a symbol of judgment upon those who are unbelievers. This is done in the presence of the Lamb, meaning that those who denied Christ will be forced to acknowledge Him as they are punished justly in His ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Hitler s Reason To The People Of Hitler And Adolf Hitler AFTER the First World War Germany was left in ruins, the years after the war there were many violent disputes and problems began to grow quickly across the country. After fingers were pointed at Germany and the Treaty of Versailles had been signed, Germany needed someone to blame for their defeat in the war. Blame was put on politicians who tried to negotiate peace, the people of Germanywanted strong leadership and needed a solution to the country s political, economical and social issues. The Treaty of Versailles was one of the main reasons as to why the people of Germany were angry and Adolf Hitlerused this topic perfectly to appeal to a much wider audience. The Nazi s didn t just promise to fix these issues, they first used them, fueled off them and fed them to the German people, what they did was unique and it worked, so I will tell you... This is how Hitler and the Nazi party used Germany s problems to gain the support of the Germans and rise to power. Adolf Hitler s promise to eradicate the Treaty of Versailles and restore German pride was a key factor in how the Nazi party captured the support of the german people. This is evident in an extract of a speech by Hitler in October 1920 (Document 9), We need some national pride again... We need a national will just as much. In order to smash this disgraceful peace treaty, we must regard every means as justified... We are not a class party, but a party of honest workers. • 13. Social Media And Internet Privacy It took the radio 38 years, the television 13 years, and the World Wide Web 4 years to reach 50 million users (Statistic Brain). As of September 2017, research now shows that there are over a billion people worldwide who use the internet. People utilize the internet because it offers endless unfettered access to copious quantities of diverse data. Statistics confirm that 58% of people have at least one social network profile, revealing that social media plays a significant part in the internet world. The reason for this is that social networks are portrayed as an ideal method to keep up with family and friends; especially if those mentioned live far away. What the internet and social networks doesn t reveal, but rather conceals, is the monstrous lack of secrecy they possess. Until preventive methods are established by either the government or an individual; the internet will continue to obtain and distribute individuals private information to various networks; whether with or without consent. Jim Harper s essay Web Users Get as Much as They Give, approaches the internet privacy controversy with the reap what you sow mentality. Harper explains that people freely provide intimate information in exchange for the steady flow of unlimited free material. The N Puzzle is known in finite versions such as the 8 puzzle (a 3x3 board) and the 15 puzzle (a 4x4 board), and with various names like sliding block , tile puzzle , etc. [1][2] The 15 puzzle is a sliding square puzzle commonly attributed to Sam Loyd. However, research by Slocum and Sonneveld (2006) has revealed that Sam Loyd did not invent the 15 puzzle and had nothing to do with promoting or popularizing it. The puzzle craze that was created by the 15 puzzle began in January 1880 in the United States and in April in Europe and ended by July 1880. Loyd first claimed in 1891 that he invented the puzzle, and he continued until his death a 20 year campaign to falsely take credit for the puzzle. The actual inventor was Noyes Chapman, the Postmaster of Canastota, New York, and he applied for a patent in March 1880. [4] The N Puzzle is a board game for a single player. It consists of (N^2 1) numbered squared tiles in random order, and one blank space ( a missing tile ). The object of the puzzle is to rearrange the tiles in order by making sliding moves that use the empty space, using the fewest moves. Moves of the puzzle are made by sliding an adjacent tile into the empty space. Only tiles that are horizontally or vertically adjacent to the blank space (not diagonally adjacent) may be moved. Animal facilitated therapy is one of the newer forms of medicine used throughout the nation. The origin of animal facilitated therapy can be traced as far back as 18th century. Generally perceived by the unfavorable four note opening theme frequently translated as the musical appearance of fate knocking at the door. This hard hitting piece included flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, horns, trumpets, timpani, and groups of violins, piccolo, contrabassoon, and trombones. The rhythm of the 5th symphony was very important. Beethoven created a tempo allegro con brio (fast with spirit). I think him doing this worked well with this piece and made it that much more creative. As for the tone color, that s a hard one. There is no overall tone color for the whole symphony. The harmony was mainly minor mode. The notes were very present and it got easier to hear and notice the instruments once I listened to the symphony a few times. It s a lesson that provides a certain wisdom and maturity that can only be achieved after heartbreak takes its course, without it finding love is like finding the end of a maze in pitch dark. In William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, this claim is proved throughout act 1, scene 1 through the results of Romeo s premature heartbreak with Rosaline. Shakespeare uses oxymorons to reveal Romeo as a character that is melodramatic along with being ill experienced when it comes to love. • 39. Analysis Of The Movie Orange Is The New Black The Netflix original series, Orange Is the New Black takes a consumerist approach to sexuality, by repetitively featuring sexual relations among inmates as a way to attract viewers. (Schwan) Orange Is the New Black neglects to explore emotional attachment beyond a need to fulfill sexual needs and minimize loneliness while in prison. Bisexual female characters, if given the opportunity, often leave their female partner for a relationship with a male, downgrading the realism of an actual bisexual lifestyle. Although lesbian activity is presented throughout, only women with this body type are presented in a highly sexualized male gaze viewpoint. (TrierBieniek) The sexual relations presented display an objectifying, exploitative portrayal of lesbian sexuality. (Schwan) Although, Orange Is the New Black s cast is exceptionally diverse, the show only films sex scenes between slender inmates. Ultimately, the show presents LGBTQ characters in a non threatening light, but features bisexualityas a temporary sexual encounter of convenience. Orange Is the New Black s prison setting follows a fictional trend of connecting female same sex desire and mental and criminal pathology. The problems of mass incarceration have been echoed far and wide, but it was not until recent years that the issue has been acknowledged, let alone fully addressed. Authors such as MK Asante and Bryan Stevenson, and filmmakers such as Ava Duvernay, have all discussed mass incarceration and its common threads such as the collapse of family structures, damage to mental, physical, and communal health, amongst other lasting impacts. Despite the commonalities, each artist takes on a different perspective on the issue and presents it in a different light. Essay A MK Asante, in his book Buck: The Memoir, highlights the devastation of mass incarceration on the family structure and on individuals, particularly young individuals, who are incarcerated. Asante utilizes an informal tone and jargon the way in which the penal and justice systems dehumanizes those it is meant to reform. Asante s informal approach and use of jargon turns the issue of mass incarceration into a conversation that engages readers. His feelings about the penal system and justice system are spelled out in the form of a narrative, thus making it easier for the reader to remain engaged. The film critic Alissa Wilkinson notes in her article The films of Christopher Nolan, explained, Nolan has shown himself to be interested in both entertaining audiences and making them think, in pushing the boundaries of what they believe a movie can and should be . Christopher Nolan also often deals with the subjects of time, memory, and life philosophies that drive movies and characters. Two of Nolan s most prominent films through his whole career have been the Dark Knight(2008) and Inception(2010). Both of the films show how Nolan s movies end ambiguously and how each protagonists in his films has an antagonist with opposite philosophies and beliefs. Inception is a film that contains a protagonist and antagonists with opposing philosophical views and beliefs.
