- What is Curation? It’s the process of sorting through vast amount of content on web and organizing it in a meaningful, contextual way for learners. It’s about adding relevancy, context to pre-existing content and tying together disparate assets with “curation glue” which is part of the art and science of formal or L&D curation. L&D curation consists of part user experience theories/frameworks, learning science, and social learning behaviors (neuroscience). It’s NOT just a random collection of information on a specific topic. (e.g. like Spotify, Pandora or others)

As a result, none of them can give you a complete picture of someone’s learning activity, let alone their skill sets. There has been an explosion of new learning resources over the last decade. Everyone now has access to millions of courses and books and blogs and articles and videos and apps and podcasts and social networks. There are now 9,400+ MOOCs. There are already 4,000+ Alexa Skills for education and reference. Which means individuals and managers are increasingly in control. STATS: A typical company uses 22 different tools and technologies to manage and deliver learning to its employees – and that number has doubled in the last 5 years. - Generally, the term "microlearning" refers to micro-perspectives in the context of learning, education and training. Because old school training is expensive, time-consuming, and simply can’t be produced fast enough to react to a constantly changing work environment. By 2025, Millennials alone will make up that 75 percent of the workforce. The average attention span of the Millennial generation is 90 seconds. Deloitte recently estimated digital skills have a half-life of just 2.5 years for any given role. And because despite technology and digital products rapidly proliferating and evolving, these developments are only able to improve performance with the right training.

There is a problem that may be caused by the use of texting and Facebook chat, and that is the speed of which questions are asked and topics are changed. Being able to fire off question after question is great for trying to learn a lot of different things about a person, but there may never be deep conversations about most of the topics because there are limitations to technology, such as an SMS message only allowing 160 characters. Problems occurring when using various methods of technology to communicate with the same person is the ways one uses a particular method over the other. Face-to-face communication may be the only time serious topics are discussed, or when trying to fix relational problems. Because of advancements in communication technology, humans communicating through electronic devices has become one of the main ways that people speak to each other. The expansion of social networking sites makes it possible for people all over the world to connect at the touch of a button. Text messages and instant messaging allow friends to communicate within seconds and the invention of video calling through programs such as Skype allow people thousands of miles away to communicate easily.
