television vs. Reality Essay
It is 8:30 Monday night and the whole family is in the living room watching the Fox network s
primetime hit Ally McBeal . Suddenly, just after the program resumes after a painstakingly long
commercial break, you see a man and a woman lying in bed talking to each other after having a night
of hot, passionate sex. You look down and see your ten year old son or daughter lying on the floor just
staring at the TV, taking it all in. You begin channel surfing, and end up on channel 3, CBS. There is a
brand new sitcom being aired called Some of My Best Friends . Almost immediately after you and
your family begin viewing this program, two men, both proclaiming to be gay, begin kissing and
embracing each other. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In one episode, one of the main characters ended up sleeping with his date even though they had just
met each other the day before and had only gone out on one date. In the very same episode, another of
the main characters had sex with a woman that he had just met less than ten minutes before. In reality,
the norm (or the desired norm) is to wait until a couple has been going out for a while and gets to
know each other better before having sex. In some cases, it is the norm to wait until marriage before
having sex. There are many exceptions to these norms, but most people like to believe that they hold
true.
Another aspect that is falsely portrayed is the representation of love and sex. This show sends several
different messages about love and sex, some of them completely contradicting the others. The one
thing that caught my attention the most though, was the act of casual sex, or the act of sex without
love. In one of the episodes mentioned earlier, one of the main characters had slept with a woman he
only had met the day before. The following morning, the main character told his roommate that,
[Their] relationship had no spark , and [he] only slept with her because she was willing to do so . This
proves that in this show, most relationships are based on sexual attraction, instead of cognitive
relationships. Then he asked his roommate to break up with the woman for him, since he had to leave.

Webster Financial Corporation
Introduction
Webster Financial Corporation or better known as Webster Bank has been helping families,
individuals, and businesses achieve their financial goals for more than three generations. Webster
Bank has over 3,000 employees that are working towards the company s values, which is to meet their
customers needs. They also want to gain and keep customers trust, respect their dignity, and to work
with the customers to achieve the best results possible. Webster Bank extends through ... Show more

Webster has also successfully deployed the model, which uses its Relationship Managers to offer a
compelling value proposition to customer and prospects. In 2014, the Webster Bank received the Best
Online Banking in New England which is recognized by J.D. Power. The company upgraded its online
banking as well as its mobile banking. This increased customer satisfaction, which is extremely
important. The ability to expand is also a great strength because since the bank is successful in four
states it could be in many other states as well as international (Webster Financial, 2015).
Weaknesses
Along with strengths, every business has its weaknesses even if they do not want to admit it. One of
the biggest weaknesses in any bank is the high staff costs. This is because of the amount of
qualifications needed to work at a bank. Webster Bank is in only four states. This is a problem because
it does not give the bank the full profitability it could get. The bank is missing out on a big
opportunity. Another big weakness is the amount of products that the bank offers. With each product
more employees need to be hired. It could also make the customer confused as to what they really
need. Being involved in the community and being connected with the customers is a great thing but it
can also be a bad thing. It is great to have these connections but, in the end it is a business. Having

Crime And Punishment
Chose a character who might on the basis of the character s actions alone be considered evil or
immoral. Explain both how and why the presentation of the character makes us react more
sympathetically than we otherwise might.
In Dostoyevsky s Crime and Punishment, the character of Raskolnikov is one who may be considered
evil or immoral for his actions, however his portrayal by the author is one that instills sympathy in the
reader for the character due to his motives and personal, internal consequences he suffers for his crime
of murder. There is considerable evidence supporting the view that Raskolnikov wants his theory
surrounding the murder to be proven wrong, to get caught, and to be punished. This tells the reader

Then he forgets to get rid of his hat, which can be easily identified as it draws attention to him. When
he remembers the mistake, he does nothing to remedy this, simply leaving the hat on. Immediately
following the murder, Raskolnikov realizes amp;quot;...how many obstacles there still remained for
him to surmount. amp;quot;, and amp;quot;...the horror of what he had done. amp;quot; (63) This
shows the beginning of Raskolnikov s mental weakness, and also reinforces his true intentions for the
crime. The attempts time and again by Raskolnikov to sabotage his own plans display a side of him
that is far from evil. He is calculating, but not in the sense that he is trying to get away with the perfect
murder. He is instead trying to commit the perfect failure.
amp;#9;Raskolnikov presents evidence of his true mental state, and that he wants to be exposed before
his peers for the good of society, which allows the reader to see him not as evil, but terribly misguided
as a tainted product of the world he has been forced in to. First, he forgets to lock the door and is
forced to kill another woman who walks in unexpectedly during his crime. Next, with the door still
open, he dallies several minutes washing his axe, taking even more time to scrutinize his clothing for
traces of blood, all seemingly in the unconscious hope that someone will walk in on him. So

Suzie s Therapeutic Relationship With Vivian
The way in which both doctors spoke to and cared for Vivian was beyond disheartening. Throughout
the film there was a tremendous lack of patient centeredness, sensitivity, and compassion behind the
doctors words and actions. The way each doctor communicated with Vivian, and then discussed
Vivian in her unconscious presence, dehumanized her and placed value only on her contribution to
research and academics. Although there were times at which you could see slight efforts were made by
the doctors to provide care and adequate descriptions, their lack of time and empathy were much more
noticeable than their altruistic intentions. Their coercion, ulterior motives, and failure to implement
bioethics throughout Vivian s care was truly repulsive. While in contrast to the doctors, Suzie
developed an appropriate patient centered relationship with Vivian. Suzie demonstrated empathy,
compassion, and utilized many therapeutic use of self techniques throughout each interaction with
Vivian. Suzie also advocated for Vivian s best interest throughout all communications, and valued
Vivian s quality of life and dignity. Having had the opportunity to work in several different healthcare

Wicca Fog
Since the beginning of time, there have been numerous variations of religion. All across the globe,
from New Zealand to Belgium, everyone has had a denomination of sorts at one time or another. With
the creation of new religions popping up throughout the centuries, there comes with them some heavy
set opinions, and in turn many righteous actions. One of the most critiqued religions of the bunch is
Wicca. Since the beginning of it s formation, it has received more than its fair share of assessment,
demolition, and genocide. The problem with opinions on such a heavy topic, is that people don t
usually take into account all of the facts and different aspects before being quick to judge. Hopefully

According to Wiseman, Wicca is a way of life to it s many followers, it s a philosophy. It is a unique
religion, in that the hierarchy found in most practiced religions today is not present. It lacks the tiered
code, and allows both male and female to be equal in all aspects. Both sexes have an opportunity to be
initiated into priesthood, much to the contrasting variation found in Catholicism. Once someone is
introduced to a circle or coven, people are encouraged to develop their own individualistic ideals and
style of worship. In fact, it is found to be immoral to impose beliefs upon one another, but rather
everyone should create their own and embrace them. This is based on the Wiccan Golden Rule, found
in the Wiccan Reed, which states, An Ye Harm None, Do As Ye Will (Wiseman, 2015). This
essentially translates to you must tolerate and respect one another, and is held as one of the highest
values found within Wiccan

The Theme Of Redemption In A Retrieved Reformation By...
Redemption is a theme that is shown throughout many stories including Thank You, M am by
Langston Hughes and A Retrieved Reformation by O. Henry. The protagonists in the stories both
faced a conflict or made a bad decision and later had to redeem themselves. The mistakes made by the
protagonist allows for a chance for redemption. In the case of these two short stories, their ability to
redeem themself is a gift that not everyone gets. Both stories include the theme of redemption. Jimmy
Valentine from A Retrieved Reformation and Roger from Thank You, M am both start as thieves and
evolve into a better man or boy, in Roger s case. In A Retrieved Reformation , Jimmy starts in jail and

Both Roger and Jimmy had to make a decision at some point in the story. Both made the one best in
their situation which led them to have a chance at redemption. In both stories, the protagonist has a
chance to redeem themselves and in the end they use the chance to make it a reality. In A Retrieved
Reformation , this idea was shown with this quote, Hello, Ben! said Jimmy, still with his strange
smile, You re here at last, are you? Let s go. I don t care now. From that statement, one would
conclude how Jimmy was sure he would be going to jail with the police officer, Ben Price, but Ben
realized how Jimmy had acted. Roger from Thank You, M am , also redeemed himself. One example
would be when Mrs. Luella Bates sends Roger off, Because shoes got by devilish ways will burn your
feet. I got to get my rest now. But I wish you would behave yourself, son, from here on in. She led him
down the hall to the front door and opened it. Goodnight! Behave yourself, boy! she said, looking out

The Government And Its Effects On The Minority Report By...
The government plays a major role in dystopic stories and novels, and as these stories start to unfold,
one can see the flaws in which how government works and how if effects the rest of society. In the
Minority Report, written by Philip K. Dick, the mechanisms of the government s systems begins to
show different flaws when surveillance is use to determine the pre crime of major crimes, and what
happens to their citizens once a verdict is reached. Any type of Government surveillance can do more
harm than good, due to the fact they invade the privacy of the people, in some cases resulting in giving
innocent people unfair and unlawful punishments, and also because it can fail to protect and create an
aspect of fear among their citizens.
In The Minority Report, Philip K. Dick creates a government that can make an arrest with the
assumption that their suspect is guilty, without taking into consideration that there was a minority
report, which is the chance that their suspect is innocent. The people of this society had begun to see
how this system is corrupt, and the coming to the point of how, If no arrests were made, there would
still have been no crimes committed. As people see the chances of innocent citizens being arrested for
no crime, they begin to think, how many murders would actually take place, and how many people
would be falsely accused. When the flaw of arresting innocent people is first drawn to attention, it is
made clear that any person who had be given a

Case Study Of Sacco
1.1.1 Growth of SACCOs
Over the past four decades, Sacco s have been especially vibrant in rural areas since the banks left a
gap when they withdraw from service provision to the poor or middle class people of the rural. In
1975, rural Sacco s membership was 500,000 and this has grown to 1.2 million in 2005. In this period,
Sacco s were primary closed cooperatives dealing only with active members of specific organizations
with a common bond. Larger Saccos have opened up to non member clients by stablishing FOSA
while others still continue to offer limited services to members only. This offers a broader range of
financial services to both members and non members. Larger Sacco s in terms of capital base began
offering FOSA s in their head during the economic liberation period of 1990 s when commercial
banks withdrew their services from less viable areas. Hence the FOSA s attract former bank customers

problem comes up when the people elected are not good managers and end up running down the

The Spanish Conquest Of Chile
Chile was beginning to be conquered by the Spanish in the mid 16th century. The conquest begun with
Diego de Almagro and Francisco Pizarro in 1536 and 1537 near the Maule River. They were searching
for gold and civilization, found neither, and returned to Peru. The first conquest happened in 1540
1541, under the command of Pedro de Valdivia, which founded Santiago. During this time, there were
at least 500,000 native people living in Chile (Britannica). Additionally, many of these cultures were
intertwined. In Northern Chile, groups relied on fishing and farming, and this area was successfully
taken under the influence of the expanding Inca empire. The Chincha and the Quechua who were apart

Just Mercy Book Report
As a young child I remember being asked the question: what do you want to be when you grow up.
While I struggled with the answer for many years, in the course of deep reflection I found that I knew
two truths about myself: I loved education, and I gained fulfillment through helping others.
Developing and learning in the course of my four years at Loyola University Chicago, I discovered a
passion to pursue a career in higher education.
The early years in my life were characterized by my childhood community in the western suburbs of
Chicago. My hometown was very sheltered with little diversity. Upon graduation from high school, I
knew I wanted to join a community where I would be challenged, supported, and most importantly, be

Going to college and being in a university setting was the first time my perspectives and ideas were
broadened. I was able to see the world outside my small suburb, and learned harsh realities, which I
was sheltered from my whole life. Social justice advocate, Bryan Stevenson, expounds the idea of
getting proximate to issues that one cares about. For me, getting proximate was accomplished by
being on a university campus, and learning from the ideas of others, as well as new, first hand
experiences. As I was supported and encouraged in my growth at Loyola, I want to provide the same
assistance for other students. Through my years I have excelled at organization and coordination,
skills that I hope to apply in order to help students in a university setting. More so, I want to help
support students who enter college, those who wish to expand their knowledge, viewpoints, and
minds. Higher education would offer me a unique opportunity where I would be able to support
students in their growth as a person, while offering encouragement and assistance to students
throughout their college

Themes Of Rabbit-Proof Fence
Rabbit Proof fence Firstly, write down a few of your own thoughts about the film Rabbit Proof fence.
How did you react to the film? Did you enjoy it? Why or why not? The film was engaging and
thoroughly executed. The actors suited their roles, and played well. The theme in the film was
educational and intriguing. Apart from some small flaws, the film was enjoyable. The circumstances
around the film, as poor oxygen in the classroom and darkness, made it a little tiresome to watch, and
therefore, the film seemed stretched out. In reflection, that impression was misplaced. Discuss your
views with other class members. What do you think are the film s key themes and issues? The key
themes and issues can be a criticism of the Australian society s actions against Aboriginals. It can be
about prejudice, simplistic generalization, racism, race supremacy and assimilation. For the most part,
the film s theme and key issues circles around how the Lost Generation of Aboriginal children were
treated through the film, how they were neglected, threatened, spoken of and forced into the

Are Common Core Standards Positively Affect Student Test...
Literature Review: Positivity of Common Core Standards
A literature review discusses published information in a particular subject area, and sometimes the
information in a particular subject area within a certain time frame (The Writing Center, 2014). A
literature review will almost always have an organized pattern and will combine both summary and
synthesis (The Writing Center, 2014). Why are literature reviews written? The answer is
straightforward; they provide a handy guide to a particular topic (The Writing Center, 2014).
According The Writing Center at The University of North Carolina of Chapel Hill (2014) sometimes a
researcher will not have time to conduct a predominant search of a topic; this makes literature reviews
relevant because they give an overview or act as a stepping stone. This essay will provide a literature
review for the research question: Do Common Core standards positively affect student test scores?
Uncertainties in the Research Many uncertainties arise when doing research; it is important to read
various articles and look for gaps or ambiguities so see what needs to be focused on. For example,
reading through four to five articles about the positivity Common Core has on student test scores did
not provide a great deal of information about the positivity theses standards have on scores. The
articles provide information describing what Common Core does who and what it affects, as well as
more negativity than positivity. The articles also provide

1. Critically evaluate the competitive advantage that can be gained by companies through IS/IT
outsourcing. Provide suitable example to support your answer.
The competitive advantage is the favorable position an organization seeks in order to be more
profitable than its competitors. Competitive advantage involves communicating a greater perceived
value to a target market than its competitors can provide. This can be achieved through many avenues
including offering a better quality product or service, lowering prices and increasing marketing efforts.
Sustainable competitive advantage refers to maintaining a favorable position over the long term,
which can help boost a company s image in the marketplace, its valuation and its future earning
potential. (Margaret Rouse, November 2012).
The outsourcing is when businesses need expertise or skills that they don t have within their
organization, they often turn to outsourcing to solve their problems.

Analyzing the Twinkletoes, My Best Girl, and Metropolis...
The St Andrean film poster for Twinkletoes (Charles Brabin, USA, 1926), My Best Girl (Sam Taylor,
USA, 1927), and Metropolis (Fritz Lang, Germany, 1927) signifies the rise of the star system and film
production companies. Furthermore, it touches on the broadening of the local theatrical audience, the
decline of the internationality of film, the popularity of female sexualization, the continued interest in
spectacle, and the growing interest in the modern and futuristic. Additionally, the poster mentions the
beginnings of a shift from focus on spectacle to narrative.
Firstly, one of the most notable of the features of the poster is the names of starring actresses. Unlike
previous posters, the prominence of Co[l]leen Moore and [M]ary Pickford indicate the emergence of
the star system, which gains momentum in the 1930s, soon after the release of these films. The poster
also specifies that this is Pickford s only appearance this year in an attempt to entice her fans,
otherwise unable to see her theatrically. Moreover, the name of the production company for
Twinkletoes is also foregrounded. Although the Universum Film AG logo and the local distributor for
Metropolis are less stressed, they are still present. Together, these two instances reveal the growing
importance of production and distribution companies in the industry.
Secondly, by combining three distinct genres, the romantic comedy, the romantic drama, and sci fi, the
poster broadens its local audience,

Eating Animals, by Jonathan Safran Foer Essay
In the book Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer, the author talks about, not only vegetarianism,
but reveals to us what actually occurs in the factory farming system. The issue circulating in this book
is whether to eat meat or not to eat meat. Foer, however, never tries to convert his reader to become

Eating meat has been a thing that majority of us engage in without question. Which is why among
other reasons Foer feels compelled to share his findings about where our meat come from. Throughout

Factory farms having locked doors only reinforces what some of us already suspect. That they are
engaging in activities appalling to the public. Their secrecy is seemingly sustaining their business.
Consumers ignorance of the meat production business only encourages inhumane animal husbandry.
Foer says, the power brokers of factory farming know that their business model depends on consumers
not being able to see (or hear about) what they do. (pg. 87) This is why we need to educate ourselves
on this matter extensively and start actively demanding where our meat is coming from. Advocating
for animal welfare is one way we can begin the process of changing or ultimately ending factory
farming.
It s problematic that we don t question the food we eat whether it be from McDonalds or a fancy

Burmese Pythons Taking over the Florida Everglades
Burmese pythons taking over the Everglades

Burmese pythons taking over the Everglades Imagine taking a walk in the Florida Everglades. Now
imagine that during that walk you come across a giant snake. In that snakes grip is a full sized White
tailed deer. The two are battling it out, but the snake is clearly winning, it does not stand a chance
against a full sized python. What could possibly be even worse than that would be a Burmese python
battling an alligator and winning? It has happened even though the snake did not make it away from
the fight. It looks like something out of a horror film and it is happening more than people might
think. This giant snake ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many different efforts in place to slow the population growth of the Burmese python. Due to
the overwhelming amount of the non native pythons in the Everglades (which is expanding to the
Florida Keys and beyond) there has been a ban on Burmese pythons and 3 other constrictor snakes.
On January 17, 2012 the Federal Wildlife service declared a ban on overseas imports of the snakes as
well as interstate imports. That means the snakes are now illegal to bring into the United States as well
as just transporting over state lines (BIG snakes, 2012). Although there is now a ban in place some
feel that it is already too late to save the Florida Everglades. According to Steven A. Williams, former
director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) warns that invasive species are the number one
environmental threat to the United States. (BIG snakes, 2012) The federal government has spent
billions of dollars trying to slow or stop the threat of invasive species. In January 2013 in an effort to
curb the python problem Florida began it s very first ever python hunt. Thousands of hopeful hunters
have signed up for a month long challenge where prizes for the longest snake and others are up for
grabs. People from around the country have slithered their way to Florida in hopes of bagging a
Burmese python or two. As of January 25th

How Did Scarlet Fever Occur In The 18th Century
In the late 18th century a new disease appeared called Scarlet Fever. Scarlet fever is an infection
caused by streptococcus. This caused a sore throat, fever, and a very red rough rash that started in the
torso area and would soon spread over the entire body. Scarlet fever mainly targeted children from the
age of four to the age of eight. But anyone can get Scarlet fever. It would almost look like the person
infected had been badly sunburnt. The tongue and lymph nodes would also become very swollen after
the person had caught Scarlet fever.
Scarlet fever was deadly until the mid 19th century when antibiotics were made to treat this disease.
These antibiotics have reduced the deaths to very little. With the antibiotics recovery takes from
around seven to ten days at most. While recovery you should be resting almost the entire day while
drinking plenty of liquids. Also the patient should not come in contact with anyone until after 48 hours
of taking the medicine because it will still be contagious. A couple days after you start the antibiotics
your body temperature will return to normal and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rash starts on your arms and legs the eventually spreads to your entire body. It almost looks like
you are very sunburnt. After a couple of days of having the rash it turns almost a really white color
then gets rough and hard like sandpaper. It hurts and stings while having the rash. By this point if you
haven t got skin treatment you will probably have lasting effects with your skin. But if you get
treatment the rash will start to disappear and in most cases it will peel off of your hands a feet then
after the peeling has healed you shouldn t get it ever again. They say that once you have Scarlet fever
and you get over it you shouldn t ever get it again. They say kinda like the chicken pox. Scholars also
say that if you get it bad tho you really never get over it because it has lasting effects on some of your

Legal Liability In Corrections
The two topics that piqued my interest were found in Chapter 3 and 4. I chose these topics because it
was discussed briefly and I wanted to know more about it. I find these topics interesting. The two
topics should be addressed more within the concept of correction. Legal Liability Peered Reviewed
Article Source
Jail employees may be legally liable for their actions (Clear, Reisig, Petrosino Cole p.77). This is
relevant to the first half of the class because as we discuss corrections it s important to know who is
responsible within the system. I chose it because I experienced a warden stepping down for the actions
of another staff member. Everyone should be responsible for their own actions but Supervisors,
including wardens can be liable for the actions of their staff members (Clear et al., p.78). I understand
that an administrator should be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I agree, staff being held accountable for behaviors toward inmates is good because it reduces abuse
towards inmates. Administrators being held accountable for their staff is necessary because they are in
charge of their work group but to penalize the administrator for the staff s mistake I don t agree with. I
believe the person that did wrong should be penalized although that administrator may become
harsher on the policies imposed to reduce the chances of a mistake to reoccur in the future.
Legal liability in corrections is an important concept because it addresses who is responsible for what.
It is important to know that staff is legally responsible for their actions and administrators are
responsible for their staff. It s important to know that inmates can also hold staff accountable if being
mistreated but unfortunate to know inmates can dispute an allegation not harmful such as

Fantasies from Lucid Dreaming
Lucid Dreaming
When fantasies of the wider vistas of life is spoken about, dreams are what pops into the minds of
mostly everyone as every human being is free in their dreams. Deep within each and every one lie
infinite possibilities, and abilities to experience anything imaginable with the state of consciousness
while sleeping that each human holds that are yet to be discovered. The realisation of knowing that
you are dreaming also creates another world to escape to. The simple thought of being able to take
imagination to another level by taking action on it may simply be exciting and fascinating. However
how terrifying is the thought of losing control of your imagination and become torn apart in a dream?
Would a dream cause the same impacts as it would if it was in real life? There are always two sides to
everything and although there may be endless advantages to mastering this ability, just like the real
world, the journey of lucid dreaming may also have its up and downs. While this may be the case,
there is nothing in this world that does not involve risks and as much as it might be slightly scary
when it first gets a little bit out of control, there are hardly any real dangers and more advantages than
one can imagine.
The official term that is connected to this phenomenon is called lucid dreaming which was given to by
a Dutch psychiatrist named Federik van Eden in a 1913 article called A Study of Dreams . However,
people were exposed to this concept for

The Federalist And The Anti Federalist
In America today there are many political parties which include the Democrats and the Republicans.
The beginning of political parties started in 1787 with the federalist, then later on the anti federalist in
1796. Alexander Hamilton was the leader of the federalist party. Thomas Jefferson was the leader of
the anti federalist; who called themselves the Democratic Republicans. Our first president, George
Washington warned us about having parties and the danger of them. However, not until Congress
debated the ratification and implementation of Jay s Treaty with Great Britain did two political parties
clearly emerge ; the Federalist and the Anti Federalist. Today the most influential parties are the
Democrats and the Republicans. These parties win all of the presidential elections as of today.
Political parties formed because the United States was beginning to grow and expand. Many people
had different opinions and so political parties were formed. People were concerned about the how the
new government was going to be organized. In 1787, the Federalist party, which was lead by
Alexander Hamilton, was formed. Alexander Hamilton wrote the papers The Federalist and they were
published in 1787 and 1788. The papers were about ratifying the constitution of the United States.
This party was formed by people who had the same or similar beliefs as Alexander Hamilton. The
federalists were individuals who supported a strong national government, diplomatic ties with Great
Britain,

Indian Democracy
Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States of America, aptly defined democracy as a
government of the people, by the people and for the people.
Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States of America, aptly defined democracy as a
government of the people, by the people and for the people. This definition clearly underlines the
basic tenet that, in this form of government, people are supreme. The ultimate power is in their hands
and they exercise it in the form of electing their representatives at the time of elections. In modern
times this type of democracy, which is representative in nature, is most suitable. The other type, the
direct democracy in which the people themselves enact and implement laws and run ... Show more

are preserved and further strengthened.
They help in the formation of public opinion as well. Thus, political parties see that there is nothing
against the spirit of democracy, freedom, equality and social justice. In the absence of political parties,
we cannot think of smooth and effective functioning of a democracy. Different political parties may
have different ideologies but they all aim at the good of the people and the country. The party system
in India has been a great factor in giving meaning and life to democracy. With the passage of time, a
new and healthy relationship has developed between the ruling party and the opposition parties on the
one hand and between the public and the political parties on the other. It is because of the enlightened
Indian voters and political parties in opposition that the government and the party in power have been
more responsive and accountable to the people and their representatives. Obviously, democracy is not
a one sided game and it needs two or more players in the form of ruling party, parties in opposition
and the electorate.
Liberty, equality, justice and fraternity are the very cornerstones of democracy. They are not available
under dictatorship and utilitarian forms of government. Without freedom of speech, expression of
faith, profession, and association, etc. democracy is meaningless. Similarly, right to own property is
one of the fundamental rights under democracy. The Indian Constitution offers all the

enjoying the friendly company of their neighbours and bonding over a game of outdoor cricket . An
example of these Australian traits of mate ship , fair go and equality , is shown in the Australia Day
episode. The neighbours celebrated our

My Adventure Of Friendship
Sitting in front of the computer, I typed in the very first letters that began my adventure of endless
exploration, discovery and creation. Two words flashed before me on the screen. Hello World .
Perhaps, that s where my journey began. It was fourteen years ago that I was first introduced to these
wonderful machines called computers. One fine day, all of a sudden, my father reeled in a bulky
grayish yellow box. Although it seemed quite intimidating and dull at first, we became the best of
friends spending majority of our time together, him seated elegantly on the desk and I, who had
somehow managed to squish myself in the drawer of the same. At that time, I barely understood the
potential that box of mysteries held. Nevertheless, every click, every window even those annoying
popup adverts amused me. Yet fate brought our friendship to a standstill when I went back to my
home country, India after having lived and studied in Saudi Arab since birth. It wasn t until 6 years
later that it decided to greet me again. Our meeting felt quite surreal. Fumbling around in my mother s
prized bookshelf, the then nine year old me discovered a treasure. It s pages were tinted and torn but
its cover had the picture of my estranged friend and a cryptic acronym HTML . After going through its
pages for an hour, I finally decided to type out whatever knowledge I had acquired on my mother s
laptop. Twenty minutes later, my most treasured masterpiece was ready my first webpage . It was

Franklin D. Roosevelt And The Great Depression
In 1933 Franklin D. Roosevelt became president. Around this time, the Great Depression was still
going on. He believed that speaking the truth would help face the conditions in our country today. His
speeches were powerful and he changed things for the American people. Roosevelt was solicitous
about the their well being. He created programs for the people and stood up to the war of the Great
Depression. The Great Depression began when the stock market crashed in 1929. For this reason,
value of money has decreased and many families became poor. When Franklin D. Roosevelt became
president in 1933, he was convinced that speaking the truth and the whole truth would help facing
conditions in the country today. As stated in Franklin D.

The Importance Of Environmental Conservation
Numerous sensitization campaigns have been launched, all over the world, with the aim of promoting
awareness of the rising cases of ecological destruction. These campaigns have not only targeted
human activities but also business operations. Shaw (22), highlights the major environmental
challenges faced in the modern world; most notoriously, water and air pollution, which he says, kills
crops and vegetation, damages the ozone layer and threatens people s lives and health. Businesses play
a massive role in contributing towards ecological damage. According to Shaw (22), businesses
damage the environment when they take natural resources from the earth and dispose of waste (4).
Most sensitization campaigns, however, argue on environmental conservation from a human interest
perspective. Shaw, for example, states that industrial chemicals harm animals and plants which
consequently causes poisoning and possible death to human beings (75). This article, therefore, aims
at establishing that, apart from their interest to human beings, plants and animal s rights should also be
conserved for their own sole interest.
As argued by Torley, every animal and non animal member of the ecosystem has its own share of
rights that ensure it is protected against harm or damage which, as Torley adds, are natural and not
obsolete. A right is defined as the entitlement to possess, utilize or freely do something (Taylor 13).
According to Torley, most countries only recognize the moral rights of the

  • 2. television vs. Reality Essay It is 8:30 Monday night and the whole family is in the living room watching the Fox network s primetime hit Ally McBeal . Suddenly, just after the program resumes after a painstakingly long commercial break, you see a man and a woman lying in bed talking to each other after having a night of hot, passionate sex. You look down and see your ten year old son or daughter lying on the floor just staring at the TV, taking it all in. You begin channel surfing, and end up on channel 3, CBS. There is a brand new sitcom being aired called Some of My Best Friends . Almost immediately after you and your family begin viewing this program, two men, both proclaiming to be gay, begin kissing and embracing each other. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In one episode, one of the main characters ended up sleeping with his date even though they had just met each other the day before and had only gone out on one date. In the very same episode, another of the main characters had sex with a woman that he had just met less than ten minutes before. In reality, the norm (or the desired norm) is to wait until a couple has been going out for a while and gets to know each other better before having sex. In some cases, it is the norm to wait until marriage before having sex. There are many exceptions to these norms, but most people like to believe that they hold true. Another aspect that is falsely portrayed is the representation of love and sex. This show sends several different messages about love and sex, some of them completely contradicting the others. The one thing that caught my attention the most though, was the act of casual sex, or the act of sex without love. In one of the episodes mentioned earlier, one of the main characters had slept with a woman he only had met the day before. The following morning, the main character told his roommate that, [Their] relationship had no spark , and [he] only slept with her because she was willing to do so . This proves that in this show, most relationships are based on sexual attraction, instead of cognitive relationships. Then he asked his roommate to break up with the woman for him, since he had to leave. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Webster has also successfully deployed the model, which uses its Relationship Managers to offer a compelling value proposition to customer and prospects. In 2014, the Webster Bank received the Best Online Banking in New England which is recognized by J.D. Power. The company upgraded its online banking as well as its mobile banking. This increased customer satisfaction, which is extremely important. The ability to expand is also a great strength because since the bank is successful in four states it could be in many other states as well as international (Webster Financial, 2015). Weaknesses Along with strengths, every business has its weaknesses even if they do not want to admit it. One of the biggest weaknesses in any bank is the high staff costs. This is because of the amount of qualifications needed to work at a bank. Webster Bank is in only four states. This is a problem because it does not give the bank the full profitability it could get. The bank is missing out on a big opportunity. Another big weakness is the amount of products that the bank offers. With each product more employees need to be hired. It could also make the customer confused as to what they really need. Being involved in the community and being connected with the customers is a great thing but it can also be a bad thing. It is great to have these connections but, in the end it is a business. Having these

Explain both how and why the presentation of the character makes us react more sympathetically than we otherwise might. In Dostoyevsky s Crime and Punishment, the character of Raskolnikov is one who may be considered evil or immoral for his actions, however his portrayal by the author is one that instills sympathy in the reader for the character due to his motives and personal, internal consequences he suffers for his crime of murder. There is considerable evidence supporting the view that Raskolnikov wants his theory surrounding the murder to be proven wrong, to get caught, and to be punished. This tells the reader that deep ... Immediately following the murder, Raskolnikov realizes amp;quot;...how many obstacles there still remained for him to surmount. amp;quot;, and amp;quot;...the horror of what he had done. amp;quot; (63) This shows the beginning of Raskolnikov s mental weakness, and also reinforces his true intentions for the crime. The attempts time and again by Raskolnikov to sabotage his own plans display a side of him that is far from evil. He is calculating, but not in the sense that he is trying to get away with the perfect murder. He is instead trying to commit the perfect failure. amp;#9;Raskolnikov presents evidence of his true mental state, and that he wants to be exposed before his peers for the good of society, which allows the reader to see him not as evil, but terribly misguided as a tainted product of the world he has been forced in to. First, he forgets to lock the door and is forced to kill another woman who walks in unexpectedly during his crime. Next, with the door still open, he dallies several minutes washing his axe, taking even more time to scrutinize his clothing for traces of blood, all seemingly in the unconscious hope that someone will walk in on him. • 6. Suzie s Therapeutic Relationship With Vivian The way in which both doctors spoke to and cared for Vivian was beyond disheartening. Throughout the film there was a tremendous lack of patient centeredness, sensitivity, and compassion behind the doctors words and actions. The way each doctor communicated with Vivian, and then discussed Vivian in her unconscious presence, dehumanized her and placed value only on her contribution to research and academics. Although there were times at which you could see slight efforts were made by the doctors to provide care and adequate descriptions, their lack of time and empathy were much more noticeable than their altruistic intentions. Their coercion, ulterior motives, and failure to implement bioethics throughout Vivian s care was truly repulsive. While in contrast to the doctors, Suzie developed an appropriate patient centered relationship with Vivian. Suzie demonstrated empathy, compassion, and utilized many therapeutic use of self techniques throughout each interaction with Vivian. All across the globe, from New Zealand to Belgium, everyone has had a denomination of sorts at one time or another. One of the most critiqued religions of the bunch is Wicca. Since the beginning of it s formation, it has received more than its fair share of assessment, demolition, and genocide. Once someone is introduced to a circle or coven, people are encouraged to develop their own individualistic ideals and style of worship. The government plays a major role in dystopic stories and novels, and as these stories start to unfold, one can see the flaws in which how government works and how if effects the rest of society. In the Minority Report, written by Philip K. Dick, the mechanisms of the government s systems begins to show different flaws when surveillance is use to determine the pre crime of major crimes, and what happens to their citizens once a verdict is reached. Any type of Government surveillance can do more harm than good, due to the fact they invade the privacy of the people, in some cases resulting in giving innocent people unfair and unlawful punishments, and also because it can fail to protect and create an aspect of fear among their citizens. In The Minority Report, Philip K. • 15. Are Common Core Standards Positively Affect Student Test... Literature Review: Positivity of Common Core Standards A literature review discusses published information in a particular subject area, and sometimes the information in a particular subject area within a certain time frame (The Writing Center, 2014). A literature review will almost always have an organized pattern and will combine both summary and synthesis (The Writing Center, 2014). Why are literature reviews written? The answer is straightforward; they provide a handy guide to a particular topic (The Writing Center, 2014). According The Writing Center at The University of North Carolina of Chapel Hill (2014) sometimes a researcher will not have time to conduct a predominant search of a topic; this makes literature reviews relevant because they give an overview or act as a stepping stone. This essay will provide a literature review for the research question: Do Common Core standards positively affect student test scores? Uncertainties in the Research Many uncertainties arise when doing research; it is important to read various articles and look for gaps or ambiguities so see what needs to be focused on. The St Andrean film poster for Twinkletoes (Charles Brabin, USA, 1926), My Best Girl (Sam Taylor, USA, 1927), and Metropolis (Fritz Lang, Germany, 1927) signifies the rise of the star system and film production companies. Furthermore, it touches on the broadening of the local theatrical audience, the decline of the internationality of film, the popularity of female sexualization, the continued interest in spectacle, and the growing interest in the modern and futuristic. Additionally, the poster mentions the beginnings of a shift from focus on spectacle to narrative. Firstly, one of the most notable of the features of the poster is the names of starring actresses. Unlike previous posters, the prominence of Co[l]leen Moore and [M]ary Pickford indicate the emergence of the star system, which gains momentum in the 1930s, soon after the release of these films. The poster also specifies that this is Pickford s only appearance this year in an attempt to entice her fans, otherwise unable to see her theatrically. Moreover, the name of the production company for Twinkletoes is also foregrounded. Although the Universum Film AG logo and the local distributor for Metropolis are less stressed, they are still present. (pg. 87) This is why we need to educate ourselves on this matter extensively and start actively demanding where our meat is coming from. Advocating for animal welfare is one way we can begin the process of changing or ultimately ending factory farming. Burmese Pythons Taking over the Florida Everglades Burmese pythons taking over the Everglades Karen Brown COM/156 February 16, 2013 Tiffany Rodriquez Burmese pythons taking over the Everglades Imagine taking a walk in the Florida Everglades. Now imagine that during that walk you come across a giant snake. In that snakes grip is a full sized White tailed deer. The two are battling it out, but the snake is clearly winning, it does not stand a chance against a full sized python. What could possibly be even worse than that would be a Burmese python battling an alligator and winning? It has happened even though the snake did not make it away from the fight. It looks like something out of a horror film and it is happening more than people might think. This giant snake ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many different efforts in place to slow the population growth of the Burmese python. Due to the overwhelming amount of the non native pythons in the Everglades (which is expanding to the Florida Keys and beyond) there has been a ban on Burmese pythons and 3 other constrictor snakes. On January 17, 2012 the Federal Wildlife service declared a ban on overseas imports of the snakes as well as interstate imports. That means the snakes are now illegal to bring into the United States as well as just transporting over state lines (BIG snakes, 2012). Although there is now a ban in place some feel that it is already too late to save the Florida Everglades. According to Steven A. Williams, former director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) warns that invasive species are the number one environmental threat to the United States. (BIG snakes, 2012) The federal government has spent billions of dollars trying to slow or stop the threat of invasive species. In January 2013 in an effort to curb the python problem Florida began it s very first ever python hunt. Thousands of hopeful hunters have signed up for a month long challenge where prizes for the longest snake and others are up for grabs. The tongue and lymph nodes would also become very swollen after the person had caught Scarlet fever. Scarlet fever was deadly until the mid 19th century when antibiotics were made to treat this disease. These antibiotics have reduced the deaths to very little. With the antibiotics recovery takes from around seven to ten days at most. While recovery you should be resting almost the entire day while drinking plenty of liquids. The beginning of political parties started in 1787 with the federalist, then later on the anti federalist in 1796. Alexander Hamilton was the leader of the federalist party. Thomas Jefferson was the leader of the anti federalist; who called themselves the Democratic Republicans. Our first president, George Washington warned us about having parties and the danger of them. However, not until Congress debated the ratification and implementation of Jay s Treaty with Great Britain did two political parties clearly emerge ; the Federalist and the Anti Federalist. Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States of America, aptly defined democracy as a government of the people, by the people and for the people. This definition clearly underlines the basic tenet that, in this form of government, people are supreme. The ultimate power is in their hands and they exercise it in the form of electing their representatives at the time of elections. In modern times this type of democracy, which is representative in nature, is most suitable. The other type, the direct democracy in which the people themselves enact and implement laws and run ... In the absence of political parties, we cannot think of smooth and effective functioning of a democracy. Different political parties may have different ideologies but they all aim at the good of the people and the country. The party system in India has been a great factor in giving meaning and life to democracy. With the passage of time, a new and healthy relationship has developed between the ruling party and the opposition parties on the one hand and between the public and the political parties on the other. It is because of the enlightened Indian voters and political parties in opposition that the government and the party in power have been more responsive and accountable to the people and their representatives. Obviously, democracy is not a one sided game and it needs two or more players in the form of ruling party, parties in opposition and the electorate. Liberty, equality, justice and fraternity are the very cornerstones of democracy. They are not available under dictatorship and utilitarian forms of government. Without freedom of speech, expression of faith, profession, and association, etc. democracy is meaningless. Similarly, right to own property is one of the fundamental rights under democracy. Two words flashed before me on the screen. Hello World . Perhaps, that s where my journey began. It was fourteen years ago that I was first introduced to these wonderful machines called computers. One fine day, all of a sudden, my father reeled in a bulky grayish yellow box. Although it seemed quite intimidating and dull at first, we became the best of friends spending majority of our time together, him seated elegantly on the desk and I, who had somehow managed to squish myself in the drawer of the same. At that time, I barely understood the potential that box of mysteries held. Nevertheless, every click, every window even those annoying popup adverts amused me. • 32. The Importance Of Environmental Conservation Numerous sensitization campaigns have been launched, all over the world, with the aim of promoting awareness of the rising cases of ecological destruction. These campaigns have not only targeted human activities but also business operations. Shaw (22), highlights the major environmental challenges faced in the modern world; most notoriously, water and air pollution, which he says, kills crops and vegetation, damages the ozone layer and threatens people s lives and health. Businesses play a massive role in contributing towards ecological damage. According to Shaw (22), businesses damage the environment when they take natural resources from the earth and dispose of waste (4). Most sensitization campaigns, however, argue on environmental conservation from a human interest perspective. Shaw, for example, states that industrial chemicals harm animals and plants which consequently causes poisoning and possible death to human beings (75). This article, therefore, aims at establishing that, apart from their interest to human beings, plants and animal s rights should also be conserved for their own sole interest. As argued by Torley, every animal and non animal member of the ecosystem has its own share of rights that ensure it is protected against harm or damage which, as Torley adds, are natural and not obsolete. A right is defined as the entitlement to possess, utilize or freely do something (Taylor 13). According to Torley, most countries only recognize the moral rights of the ...
