The Indian History And The Status Of Women
The Indian History and the Status of Women :
Women s security is closely connected to global security still they suffer simply because they differ
in gender. According to the UN Commission on Human Security, the security of one person, one
community, one nation rests on the decisions of many others, sometimes fortuitously, sometimes
precariously . However, in the interrelated world everyone is influenced either positively or
negatively by the decisions of individuals or states (UNIFEM
2003). To understand the status of the Indian women it is important to understand the history
gender discrimination in the country.
In 1947, the Indian history of violence against women was perceivable in the violent nature of
the nation s partition. The women were raped, abducted and their bodies were used as a medium
of men s evil expression as Indian Hindus and the Pakistani Muslims battled for power to defend
their countries. This tactic of humiliating the opponent by using women s bodies as a tool of
power dominance is still being practiced in the Indian society and is visible in the cases of Devi
and Sori (Dobhal 2011: 598).
Mother India, commonly termed as Bharat Mata in Sanskrit is the national personification of
India as a mother goddess which is widely depicted as a woman clad in a saffron sari holding the
national flag. The position of women was high in India and some might argue that degrading
positioning of women in the society is influenced by the impact of colonialism.

Feelings About Hip Hop Music
How I feel about hip hop music Hip hop is a wide very open different type of music it brings some
people in but pushes others away. Personally I do not like hip hop I prefer dubstep or country.
Hip hop music is disliked by most people who don t live in a city or an urban area. The reason
Myself and many others dislike hip hop is because it does not relate to our lives so we do not
enjoy it. Hip hop was made for people in urban area not country sides so that is my main point
for not liking hip hop. My second point for not liking hip hop is the words don t relate to my life
i don t really understand them either. Also with hip hop i can t understand the words because it s
sung to fast and i m not able to understand them. Also Hip hop is racist

Similarities Between Frederick Douglas And Malcom X
For some education is a foregone conclusion, particularly those who are wealthy and have means
to attend an institution of higher learning. Education is not the sole purview of the wealthy, while
having means provides a lower bar for entry, lack of means does not prevent one from
enlightening the self. Such is the case for both Frederick Douglas and Malcom X, two men who
enlightened themselves without access to the wealth that tethers education to those of the upper
class. Hard work and determination can win the day and bestow a freedom that only an advanced
education offers. These two men are shining examples of what can be accomplished when someone
refuses to be denied an education. This story tells about, Malcolm Xand Fredrick Douglas,... Show

As Malcom X emphasized, Mr. Muhammad, to whom I was writing daily, had no idea of what a
new world had opened up to me through my efforts to document his teachings in books . (444)
Becoming a minister of Muhammad, he fought for African Americans civil rights.
Fredrick Douglass who started life as a slave on Master Hughes plantation was taught to write by
his Mistress in the beginning. As time went on Douglass Master forbade his wife from teaching
Douglass any more lessons. Douglass has often said, My mistress, who had kindly commenced
to instruct me, had, in compliance with advice and direction of her husband, not only ceased to
instruct, but had set her face against my being instructed by anyone else . (403) Douglass was
heartbroken as his Mistress s ceased to teach him and his thirst for knowledge grew. When
Douglass first became the Mistress slave, she treated him with respect, took care of him, and
began to teach him the basics of education. After being told by Master Hughes to stop Douglass s
education the Mistress went above and beyond that order. Where she once would bring them
newspapers to read together, she would now not let him anywhere near a newspaper for fear of
her husband s reprisal. Even through all this he still yearned to learn. In order to finish learning
how to read Douglass constructed a plan. He planned to learn to read by making friends with

Sequence Matching And Pattern Matching
INTRODUCTION : Pattern matching is a programming language method which is considered as
important in functional programming. It is uses STRING MATCHING and PATTERN
RECOGNITION. The main job of pattern matching is to check and decompose data. The object
oriented programming languages do not have any particular method for this decomposition of data.
So the Object oriented programmers are in need for a solutions for this problem of decomposition
.For that problem as a solution a built in pattern matching construct is introduced which is
compatible with object oriented programmingis proposed. And the data is to be defined separately
for the operation on data to make matching useful. Pattern matching is presented in two ways,...

If the given input pattern matches , the pattern variables are bound to corresponding parts in the
input value and the relative branch is executed in the an environment that improves with the pattern

tracing techniques. The object oriented way of analyzing and performing operations on data:
Object oriented design is a method and style for software system development that amounts to
encapsulating data and operations in abstractions. This method produces some abstractions that are
usually implemented in an object oriented programming language, which supports the object
oriented style through its syntax and semantics. It does so by providing an object model and by
offering built in methods for object construction, method calls, field access and deletion of objects.
Classifying abstractions and taking them apart into their subcomponents is not a built in construct
of object oriented programming languages.
Pattern matching will offer: Not only Readability and security, a high level method for pattern
matching provides optimization and static checks. The disadvantage of object oriented solutions
which are mentioned above is that the standard compilers can not check hand written case
distinctions are based on type tests and type casts cover all the cases, or all branches can actually be
entered. Pattern matching

What Is The Purpose Of The Book Striiff
One of New York s Best Selling Books Stiff by Mary Roach was a delight to read. I personally
think this book was very informative, but in such a way that the reader wants to keep reading. Not
only was the book entertaining and informative while reading, but it seemed as though time was not
be mentioned, because of how fast the bookwent by. Starting off with the introduction part of the
book was a bit longer for me to get through, but after I passed that part, I really enjoyed the rest of
the book. I would recommend this book to anyone because even if you don t have an interest in
the scenes behind it, it is a book you will find quite enjoyable to read. I was introduced to a lot of
information behind the science for cadavers. All through the book we are introduced to a few
important people whom will be important or seen throughout the book. Mary is the one telling
the story she talks about the process each job takes. All while she is also experiencing everything
for herself as well. The author starts off the book with an introduction paragraph which is where
we begin to get the feeling of the book for itself. She starts it off by talking about death and how

Effective Team Work
Effective Teamwork 11/30/2015 SOC/110 Professor Rowell
An effective team has strong leadership where the team leader not only recognizes what they bring
to the team but what each team member brings as well. A strong leader protects their team and
doesn t have a hidden agenda. Respect is a very important characteristic of an effective team
because if members of the team disrespect each other and put down team member s ideas,
productivity could possibly slow down because team member s willingness to contribute ideas and
solutions might diminish due to disrespectful communication between members. Open and honest

The need to be in control can be a good thing for teamwork because all groups need a leader that
can help keep the group on track, as long as everyone in the group isn t trying to be in control,
which could cause tension and confusion. There are three main components of group diversity,
your core personality, your internal dimensions, and external dimensions. Your core personality is
your unique way of experiencing and behaving in the world that surrounds you. Internal dimensions
are things that you can t control or change about yourself, your age, race, or ethnicity. External

What I Ve Learned While Student Teaching Essay
What I ve Learned While Student Teaching There are a few revelations that I have learned while
student teaching that I was not aware of beforehand. First, I have learned that having high
expectations for students truly motivates them to work hard and please their teacher. I knew this
approach worked with my own children, but I saw first hand while studentteaching how a
classroom full of students will work to reach the goals you set for them. All it takes is setting goals
that are within their reach, providing them with the steps they need to be successful, and enforcing
their hard work with positive motivation. Second, I had absolutely no idea how many children are
pulled out of a classroom to receive services with the various interventionists and... Show more

Additionally, having an interventionist or therapist push in to your classroom with a small
group of students was an absolute shock. This is extremely interruptive to the class who is
picked to host the push in. The teacher is required to provide space for them to work and make
room for them to bring in an oversized cart full of materials that can barely fit through the aisles
of our desks. Imagine how distracting this is for the students in the classroom to have two
lessons being taught at one time. I still have not figured out why they do not use other spaces in
the school that would be much less disruptive to everyone involved. Next, I have learned that the
teacher does not have much say in the methods he/she decides to use to teach reading or math.
There are people who have been out of the classroom for years who are qualified to make the
decisions for the teacher regardless of the fact that the school received the highest scores in the
district. For example, at Hendrix, the teachers are required to teach ALL math and reading lessons
in small groups. No longer can the teacher decide to teach a whole group lesson or a small group
lesson. That

What Are Tacitus Motivations For Writing The Annals
What are Tacitus reasons (both explicit and implicit) for writing The Annals?
Tacitus motivations for writing The Annals are multifaceted. First, he was promoting the stance
that the empire, despite its shortcomings, was necessary for the stability of Rome at the time.
Secondly, he wanted to give an honest and fair account of Rome during the reigns of four emperors
of the principate: Tiberius, Gaius, Claudius and Nero.
A republic, like Rome, moves at a maddeningly slow pace. Legislation is put through a system of
checks and balances where rivals debate ad nauseum over proposed policies. In a perfect world,
this ensures that only which is most beneficial for the state and her peoples becomes a reality. A
Tyrant, however, can accomplish a great deal in only a short amount of time. A good leader, like
Augustus, can propel his people forward unhindered by the chains of a republic. The Roman
people, according to Tacitus: prefered the security of the current regime to the dangers of old
(Yardley 2008, 3). Even if it lacked freedom, many were willing to submit to an empire if it meant
stability and security.
Tacitus begins The Annals with a brief description of Augustus ascension and reign. While not a
central figure to The Annals, Augustus is important because he is the originator of the principate
that it revolves around. Before Augustus, Rome was a republic embroiled in civil war, turmoil, and
on the path of destruction. August brought that unrest to heel and tamed Rome

Is Voluntourism A Contemporary Manifestation Of Imperialism
Is voluntourism a contemporary manifestation of imperialism? Why/why not? Use both primary
and secondary sources to substantiate your answer. Voluntourism is a modern day exhibition of
imperialism. Patrick H. O Neil (2010, p. 234) defines imperialism as ...the system whereby a state
extends its power to directly control territory, resources, and people beyond its borders .
Voluntourism chains travel with voluntary work, drawing individuals seeking a tourist experience
that will positively benefit the society and their personal development (Raymond and Hall 2008, p.
530) Getting your hands dirty is a selling point (McGloin Georgeou 2015, p. 407) and at the heart it

533). Furthermore, tourists that often go on such volunteering trips are young graduates with
minimal knowledge and skills about the outer world and cultures (Wearing 2001, p. 146). This
could potentially lead to generalised views of other cultures and may even lead to imposing their
own culture on others, with or without intention. It is essential that volunteers are appropriately
qualified and prepared so that they are perceived positively by their hosts and can make a genuine
contribution, rather than simply absorbing time and resources (Raymond and Hall 2008, p. 531).
Without the fundamental material and understanding the plight of people in poor lands, the
promise of good outcomes would be counter productive and may only serve to imprint power and
authority (McGloin, Georgeou 2015, p. 409). Reinforcing the fact that people in the slums may
comprehend the status of visitors and their dominance over their constructions, which influences
their poverty and underpins their lack of power in society (Raymond and Hall 2008, p. 533).
Voluntourism, when combined with unskilled tourists in this imperialistic world, becomes very
exploitative. In other words, through the modern day practice of voluntourism ideas of imperialism
is still very much alive and present. Voluntourism provides greater opportunities for interaction and
exchange between voluntourists and host communities in order to build a

Controlling Tuberculosis in China
Controlling tuberculosis in China
Introduction
Tuberculosis is a disease of an infectious nature caused by a bacterium known as mycobacterium
tuberculosis. The disease spreads through the air. People with the disease can spread it to
susceptible people through coughing, sneezing, talking or spitting. It mainly affects the lungs and
other parts such as the lymph nodes and kidneys can also be affected. The symptoms for TB are
fatigue, coughing, night sweats, weight loss and fever. One third of the population of the world is
affected with mycobacterium tuberculosis. The rate of infection is estimated to be one person per
second. About 14 million people in the world are infected with active tuberculosis. Drug resistant
TB has been recorded to be a serious public health hazard in many countries. Resistant strains

Compensation Management
1. Introduction:
In an expanding economy, human resources are scarce, and it s important to attract and retain the
best people. In a recessionary economy, human capital is a major expense that needs to be
controlled effectively. But no matter what the global economic situation may be, you need
maximum insight and flexibility to manage enterprise compensation. You also need the ability to
adapt dynamically to ever changing circumstances. A comprehensive compensation management
solution achieves this by integrating all relevant human resources (HR) processes, including the
administration of fixed and variable pay, long term incentives. performance management,

This method has five steps to weight the job. These methods are
Step 1
Identify and define the factors useful in describing the fundamental elements of the general nature
of all jobs under the study.
Step 2
Weight the factors and assign a specific value to each factor.
Step 3
Identify the sufficient number of benchmark jobs to cover the entire range of difficulty or
importance of all factors.
Step 4
Using each factor, assign the value from 1 to 10 to each benchmark job. The job demanding the
greatest possible degree of a factor receives a 10 and the job demanding little or no amount of a
factor receives a 1 values between 1 to 10 are assigned to other job using the same procedure.
Step 5
Multiply the weighted factor value by the benchmark job value. This provides a weighted point
score for each factor for each benchmark job.

The Art Of A Pastry Chef
Mclaughlin 6
Brittany Mclaughlin
Mrs. Ossman
English IV

The Art Of A Pastry Chef
The art of the pastry chef has been around since the eighth century BC. Being a pastry chef is a
difficult job and requires a creative mind. I ve chosen this project to get a greater understanding
of the art. Pastry chefs work in varies places, bake many pastries, and work long hours. Many get
training on the job while others receive their training at a culinary school. Pastry chefs require an
eye for detail and good managing skills; they must also be great at following directions. The
history of the start of pastry chefs goes way back in time.
The Assyrians are known as the first, in the eighth century BC, to conjoin very thin layers of bread
dough with chopped nuts and honey to produce what we know as the Baklava (Made Man: History
Of The Pastry Chef). Greek seamen discovered this and loved the pastry. They brought the recipe
to Athens. Then, Greek pastry chefs discovered a way to roll the dough thinner and they created
phyllo dough. French and Italian Renaissance pastry chefs took the primary phyllo dough recipe
and perfected puff pastries , which were filled with anything from sweetmeats to fruits, small eggs
or birds (Made Man: History Of The Pastry Chef). In the seventeenth and eighteenth century, pastry
chefs created new recipes such as Cream puffs, Eclairs, and Napoleons. Chocolate was first used to
create pastries after Spanish and Portuguese traders brought it to

Social Structures In The Film Stress, Portrait Of A Killer
The documentary by Robert Sapolsky, Stress, Portrait of a Killer, (Stress: Portrait of a Killer
[Documentary]. (2008). National Geographic.) emphasizes the dangers that are associated with
prolonged stress that we experience in our everyday lives, and situations that we expose
ourselves to. In the documentary Sapolsky travels to Africa, there he studies the baboons that
live in the wild to see how they live, react, and respond to their environment. Like humans, the
baboons also have their own social structures that determines who is the top baboon s are, and as
the social structure declines what baboons fall at the lower end of the social structure. This can
be related to humans, because like the baboons we have our upper class, upper middle class,
lower middle class, working class, and poor (What is social class. (n.d.). Retrieved September 2,
2015, from http://udel.edu/~cmarks/What is social class.htm) While like humans, baboons in these
groups that Sapolsky studied also are categorized by the same type of social structure, the higher
the social rank the lower the stress, and the lower the social rank the higher the stress. He also
emphasized that while one might have a lower social class ranking, they aren t necessarily
considered high stress.

The Abandoned Colony by Karen Ordahl Kupperman
Thesis: The Roanoke colony proved to be an unsuccessful venture in the New World for England,
since leaders of the expedition held the viewpoint that privateering would prove to be the most
profitable aspect of founding the new settlements in the West. However future, still unsuccessful
attempts to make a permanent colonyat Roanoke, helped England understand how to build a

They had a strange relationship, since many of the colonists respected the Indian s way of life
and were amazed by how they lived. Many attributed their strength to the tobacco that they
consumed. Others saw them as savages and wanted to convert them to the European way of life.
The colonists ended up waging war with them and killed some Croatoans. White went back to
England to request supplies, and when he came back, the colony was abandoned, with evidence
that they joined the Croatoans. CRO was written on a tree, a sign that the colonists left to tell
him where they had gone. However, they were to carve a cross over the name if they were
forced to vacate, but there was no such mark. An entrance post also had the word Croatoan
carved into it, also without any crosses. Big items like weapons were left behind, but all smaller
supplies were gone. The book uses Professor David Quinn s theory to explain what happened. The
bulk of the colony moved to the Chesapeake Bay and lived in peace while the rest stayed behind to
guard the heavier equipment. However, the Spanish threat and Indian hostility forced them to leave.
They were the ones who left the notes. Rumors continued to spin when Indians told stories to the
people of Jamestown in the Chesapeake Bay about whites living with the Indians. Unfortunately,
White, Ralegh, and everyone else searching for the colony never found them. Even after hearing of

The Cherry Orchard Essay
The Cherry Orchard The Misunderstood Comedy When the first production of The Cherry Orchard
was performed on stage in Moscow, there was a significant difference of opinion between the
author and directors. Chekhov strongly faulted the directors interpretation that the play should be
preformed as a tragedy and insisted that what he had written was a comedy. The famous
philosopher Aristotle defined a comedy as quot;an imitation of characters of a lower type who are
not bad in themselves but whose faults possess something ludicrous in them. quot; The
misinterpretation of The Cherry Orchard could be mainly due to a misunderstanding of the comic
character. A quot;comic quot; character is generally supposed to... Show more content on

It is this that forms the ludicrous or comic essence of Lyubov s character. True, Lyubov s
character does have her tragic moments. At the end of act four, Ania refers to her mother as to
having been crying all morning. Lyubov also expresses a lot of stress from not having money,
even though her actions do not show it. The main theme of the play can be generally taken to be
the passing of the old order of Russian society, symbolized by the sale of the cherry orchard.
Since Chekhov did not belong to the ranks of the Ranevsky family, unlike other authors who had
written plays on the same theme, Chekhov wrote The Cherry Orchard without becoming
personally involved. He was able to see the the comedy of the whole situation and give it an
artistic form of a play full of comic characters. Nothing was further form Chekhov s thoughts then

help you maintain good balance that is closely related to your overall safety and comfort. When

The Song Analysis Of We Are The World
In 1984, an iconic song was created by two sensational artists Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie.
A song they created inspired millions, originally created for people of Africa during the time of a
horrific famine, was later recreated for the earthquake of Haiti. And for many years our world has
been through so much trauma, trauma such as diseases, shootings, and devastating natural
disasters. That song we know as We Are The World
created such an inspiring notion that sparks to
change our perspective of the world, how it is ours the children like Jackson said We are the
world, we are the children meaning we are all connected and the lyrics of this song represents that.
When I listen to this song it gives a sense of hope, hope that everything will be alright. The songs
sends out a powerful message that anyone and everyone can help and make a difference in the
world. The style of this song is so powerful it s an eclectic style of many incredible genres such
as; gospel, rock, hip hop, R B etc. many of the famous artists of this song were called the United
Support Of Artists for Africa, despite their musical differences came together and created a moving
and inspirational meaningful song. That touched millions around the world, even today it s still an

Robespierre Argumentative Dbq
Maximilien Robespierre Argumentative DBQ
On September 5, 1793, the National Convention of France declared terror the order of the day,
which essentially meant that the government would take any and all necessary measures to
maintain a sense of peace and stability. Strict laws and policies were imposed to ensure that the
nation would continue to evolve and change. This day marked the beginning of the infamous Reign
of Terror. The Reign of Terror was a period of turmoil in France following the onset of the French
Revolution in 1789. Extreme violence and unwarranted brutality became standard during this
decade. The head of the revolution and primary leader of the Committee of Public Safety was a
French politician named Maximilien Robespierre. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The spark that set off the Reign of Terror can be attributed to the king s attempted escape from
France in 1791 (Document 6). It is impossible for people of the modern world to comprehend
exactly what caused this mayhem simply because no one lived during that period. Regardless,
the event left the nation in a state of shock and uncertainty. The National Convention was forced
to make the difficult decision to place all of its power into an entirely new political branch,
knowing that something different was needed to save France. Before he was chosen to run the
Committee of Public Safety, Robespierre was revered for his courage and sheer determination.
He ridiculed the notion that a monarchy could last and instead pushed for democratic reforms
(Document 2). Robespierre spoke to the people of France with an air of confidence that quickly
won them over. His morals were fundamentally based on the ideals of early enlightenment
thinker Jean Jacques Rousseau. Both men asserted that man is good by nature but poisoned by
society. Robespierre also believed that all men deserve to be treated as equals in the eyes of the
law (Document 3). The central cause of the French Revolution was the nation s lack of a strong
military in the face of civil war and foreign invasion. Rebuilding the military was arguably the
most significant advancement that occurred during the Reign of Terror. Robespierre created a
law called the Law of Universal Conscription in an effort to propel the French military to a
reasonable state. This law mandated all men between the ages of 18 and 40 to join the army.
Additionally, women were called into service to make uniforms. Robespierre further ensured that
his troops were well fed and prepared to spring into combat at any moment by reserving the best
bread for soldiers only. After decades of internal and external conflict,

Cultural Differences In Gung Ho
In an increasingly global economy Japanese cars are manufactured in America, American cars in
Japan, and parts for both in each. Regardless of the relations existing between any two nations at
any one time. the success of international partnerships may depend on a mutual understanding. Also
respect for diversity of history, culture, language and business practices.
In Gung Ho, a Japanese automaker moves into an abandoned factory in the Midwestern town. Both
the automaker and the town s newly re employed autoworkers have an interest in making it work,
but they are at odds in terms of principles, methods and leadership styles. Misunderstandings
threaten the realization of a project both partners desperately need.
Gung ho is a Chinese term that literally means working together. The term was the slogan of Lt.
Colonel Evans F. Carlson s Marine Raiders during World War II and its meaning was expanded to
mean, enthusiastic, cooperative and enterprising.
Gung Ho is the story of a Japanese company (Assan Motors) that comes to a small American town,

The Holocaust Was A Genocide Of More Than Five Million Jews
In the Holocaust, there were many Jews, blacks, and others killed because of the Nazi regime.
These were all crimes because of how racist and prejudice Hitler and the Nazis were to the
people they targeted. The problems with racism and the discrimination against these people, left
the country in a bad place and many had to step in. My paper will talk about the Holocaust and
how the ethnicities and groups of people, in the Holocaust were discriminated against. The Jews,
gypsies, handicapped, and homosexuals were discriminated against, abused, and killed. The
Holocaust was a genocide of more than five million Jews. They had been killed by many ways,
like gas chambers, death camps, and many other mass killing ways. The Nazis were the leaders
of the killings of the Jews and they used vans that would be poisoned with gas and weapons like
guns to kill these people they did not like. The lack of food, the really bad living conditions in
the camps was deplorable. Many were forced to do manual labor that was terrible. They just
lined people up and killed them by mass groups and tossed them into mass graves, one by one.
The Nazis had to do what they were told, because Hitler did not want any Jews to be left. And
some Nazis were traumatized by the fact they had to commit these killings, by the ways they
were told to do so. The word Holocaust, from the Greek words holos (whole) and kaustos (burned),
was historically used to describe a sacrificial offering burned on an altar

computers which are our main concern, you will find that the aspect of an ergonomic keyboard has
been incorporated too.
Essentially, an ergonomic keyboard is supposed to make you comfortable as you work as it
draws away muscle strain and other repetitive strain injuries (RSI). In most cases, you will find
that this variety of keyboards are V shaped and this is meant to enable both hands to type at an
angle, which is assumed to be the most natural way to do so for every person.
As usual, most of the times, when working on or with your keyboard, speed, comfort and

Oresteia Suffering Into The Truth Analysis
Oresteia: Suffering Into the Truth
Oresteia is a script whose story goes on by recalling Orestes lost memories. The main idea which is
prevalent throughout this story is about finding the truth hidden in the acts of revenge, lies, and
fates which are intricately intertwined. However, as the truth does not always give us hope and
pleasant, in this story, the characters are suffered by the truth and the way to find it.
Orestes father, Agamemnon, is suffered for the truth of the prophecy, the child is the price: if he
kills his child, his country will win the war. Due to this prophecy, Agamemnon is tortured and
agonizing between his two important roles: father of his family and father of the country. If he
chooses his family and doesn t kill his child, they will lose the war. All people in the country will
be tortured as slaves and colonists. However, if he chooses the win, the peace and the pleasant
from a family will not exist anymore. His family will be demolished. Eventually, in the middle of
the story, he decides to kill Iphigenia. Agamemnon chooses his country, his subjects, and the win,
not his family s peace. He makes Iphigenia drink three solutions including the pills which make
her die. I feel like I ve done something so wrong that my whole life, my family, nothing will be

Partnership Is An Arrangement Or A Form Of Business...
Partnership is an arrangement or a form of business organization in which two or more parties come
together to achieve specified economic objective. Each such party to the organization is known as
partner . The relationship between / among partners is governed by the partnership agreement.
Some of the common clauses relating to partnership are capital, profit/loss sharing ratio, tenor,
object, inclusion of new partner, retirement / exclusion of existing partner, dissolution of
partnership etc. Partnership is a separate entity, which has its own existence from its partners.
Partnership is not a taxable entity. A partnership is a form of business that works as a medium
through which its profits, losses, deductions, and credits pass directly to its partners. In turn, each
partner reports individually his /her share of the partnership s profits, loss, deductions etc. in his/her
individual tax return. This may result in increase or decrease in personal tax liability of a partner.
Hence, for tax reporting and payment purpose, a partnership is treated as an aggregate of
individuals, who provide capital and services to a joint business organization, rather than as a
separate taxable entity.
Partnership Contribution:
Each partner brings in money (cash) / property or some intangible rights to contribute in the
partnership, in lieu of interest in the partnership. At the time of contribution, the partners need to
compute the tax basis of contribution for him and/or for partnership.

Compare And Contrast Mccrae And Wilfred Owee
The Differences in War (McCrae compared to Owens)
During the early 1900 s, there was many events taking place throughout the world. One of them
actually being World War I. John McCrae and Wilfred Owens were both soldiers in that particular
war. One could only imagine all that these men had experienced and gone through during those
times. To help one better envision and understand what they went through, they both had actually
written poems about their times in the military during World War I. One would think that since both
these gentlemen had been in the same war, they would experience the same things and write about
the same as well. And yes, both of their writings and poems have similarities in style. However,
their exposure to the war and violence made their poems very different in many ways. Both of their
techniques, mood, and tone throughout their writings contrasts vastly.
Both McCrae and Owen were soldiers in World War I. With this similarity within their lives, it
would be assumed that their poems and writings would be a little similar as well. That statement
could not be more wrong. In McCrae s poem In Flanders Fields , he uses such wording that makes
his words flow and sound quite elegant. Though sounding very graceful and sophisticated especially
considering the grim topic he is writing about he is not as detailed of a writer when compared to
Owen. In Owen s poem Dulce et Decorum Est , his wording is quite horrid and gruesome. McCrae
s poem is vastly

Snow Falling On Cedars And Snow Falling On Cedars
Becoming the Bridge Between Two Worlds Second generation immigrants are often forced to
become the bridge between two worlds, as their foreign parents hold on to cultural ties and
traditions, while the children grow up in a Western society with contrasting ways of life. The
works the End of East by Jen Sookfong Lee and the film Snow Falling on Cedars, directed by
Scott Hicks, prove that a struggle for identity can be overcome if one overlooks the dissimilarities
between two cultures. As seen in both works, the writers demonstrate how second generation
immigrants are faced with the challenge of finding their identities, as they feel torn between their
cultural practices and the influences of their Western upbringings; However, only after setting
aside the differences that clash the two cultures are they truly able to find a balance between the
two and discover who they are. Firstly, both the End of East and Snow Falling on Cedars involve
second generation immigrant protagonists in North America that struggle to keep their parents
happy and preserve their culture, while continuing to live their lives as individuals of the West.
Hatsue, a Japanese American girl in Snow Falling on Cedars, grows up in the West. Despite being
brought up in North America, she is well aware that her mother strongly believes in preserving the
Japanese culture. Hatsue s mother wishes for Hatsue to honour their traditional Japanese ways, and
encourages her to marry one of [her] own kind and stay

Theories And Theories Of Development
Theories of Development According to authors Boyd and Bee Psychologists use theories to
formulate hypothesis, or testable answers, to why questions about behavior. At the broadcast level
there are three families of theories including psychoanalytic theories, learning theories, and
cognitive theories. These theories attempt to provide developmentalists with compressive
explanations for just about every fact of human development. Additionally, theories that deal with
the biological foundations of development and interactions between these factors and development
and interactions between these factors and the environment extend developmentalists understanding
of age related changes beyond that provided by three major families of theories. Thus, the most
comprehensive explanations of development phenomena often include ideas from the
psychoanalytic, learning, and cognitive approaches as well as from biological and contextual
theories (Chapter 2: Theories of Development. Page 27 In The Growing Child) The psychoanalytic
theory also known as psychoanalysis is a method of observing and treating personality disorders
which is used in psychotherapy. The psychoanalytic theory includes the idea that there are different
factors that happen to people during childhood that can contribute to how they later function as an
adult. The psychoanalytic theory is commonly used to treat anxiety and depression disorders. It is

The Indus River Valley civilization society was based around a social hierarchy, which was

Communism is under the control under one major party that is the only producer, no private

When firms have such power, they change prices that are higher than can be justified based upon
the costs of production. Monopolies are not a problem because there is still money being acquired
and there is still competition. To produce high end products, it is easier to have one large firm
rather than several smaller ones. In other cases monopolies are essential for utilities like water and
electricity. It makes the most sense for a monopoly to control this because of the upfront expensive

Essay Manual vs Automatic Transmission
Manual vs. Automatic Transmission
You want to get a new car, but you are not sure whether to get one with an automatic transmission
or one with a manual transmission. Well read on and perhaps this essay will help you out with
your decision. Cars have played a big role in my life. When I was a little kid my dad and I used
to work on his 197? Ford Granada. Every time something would go wrong with the car he would
ask me to help him fix it. Not because I knew much about cars, because I didn t know anything
about the subject, but because he wanted me to learn about cars and spend some time with me. Or
maybe he just didn t want me to get ripped off at a garage when something went wrong with my
car. Either way, we spent a lot of time... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Automatic transmissions, however, do not have this problem; they do not roll back on hills. A
benefit of manual transmissions is acceleration. Cars with manual transmissions accelerate more
rapidly and evenly than automatic transmissions, if you know exactly when to shift. Automatic
transmissions accelerate a little slower. One very important con on automatic transmissions is that
it gives much lesser mileage. Manual transmissions do not use any power from the engine to
change gears, because you do that your self, thus saving you money. Another advantage on a car
with a manual transmission is that, if your battery dies, you do not need jumper cables and an
additional car. All you have to do to start up a car, with a manual transmission and a battery failure,
is to push it to a reasonable speed (walking speed) and then jump in and start the vehicle.
The manual gearbox just gives you a lot more control over your car. Like safermotoring.co.uk
says, on one of their reports, Many veteran drivers who have experience of both types of
transmission systems insist that a vehicle with a manual gearbox is safer because it gives them
more control. I mean I don t know about you, but for me the more control I have over my car the
better. Another con on automatic transmissions is that they are just boring to drive. I may be a little
bias, because of the simple fact that I like manual transmissions a lot better than automatics, but
statistics never lie.

students will actually want to visit the tutor room at the opening hours? The answers to these
questions would help the Department of Finance and Actuarial Science to reduce its hiring
expenses by determining the number of tutor they should hire. By estimating the average number of
students who will visit the tutor room during the opening hours, we can determine whether the
Department of Finance and Actuarial Science can close down the tutor room during some specific

during her recovery from the shooting. Malala gave a speech at the United Nations in 2013, on her
16th birthday. In October 2013, Malala s autobiography I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up
for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban was released. However, the Taliban still had not given
up and still considered the young activist a target. Malala remains a strong advocate for the power
of education despite the continued threats by the Taliban. The European Parliament showed
recognition for Malala by awarding her the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought. She was also
nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize the same year, but fell short of winning it. Malala was a
nominee again in 2014. In October 2014, Malala, along with Indian children s rights activist
Kailash Satyarthi, received the Nobel Peace Prize. She (Malala) is the pride of Pakistan, she has
made her countrymen proud. Her achievement is unparalleled and unequaled. Girls and boys of
the world should take lead from her struggle and commitment. said Pakistani Prime Minister
Nawaz Sharif. Malala opened a school for Syrian refugee girls in Lebanon to celebrate her 18th
birthday in 2015. 200 girls from the ages of 14 to 18 were

Characteristics Of A Nucleotide Substitutions Essay
are G to A nucleotide substitutions. Consequently, these nucleotide substitutions result in three
amino acid substitutions; arginine to cysteine, glycine to aspartic acid, and glycine to glutamic
acid, respectively . All three mutations occur within the collagen domain changing its ability to
oligomerize (the mutant forms). The wild type is termed allele A while the structural variants B, C
and D are often gathered and referred to as zero (0) .
Despite their uneven distribution in human populations, MBL gene variants are quite frequent .
The frequencies of allele B are 0.14 among Caucasians, 0.25 among Asians and 0.50 among
indigenous South Americans. However, allele B is extremely rare in West Africa. On the other
hand, allele C is rare among Caucasians but common in sub Saharan Africa. Generally, Allele D is
rather uncommon and to great extent is restricted to North Africans and Caucasians .
The high incidence of structural variants among populations throughout the world may confer
biological advantages as individuals heterozygous for B, C, and D may be protected against some
intracellular pathogens i.e. Mycobacteria species and Leishmania species .
Furthermore, studies of Madsen and his colleagues revealed two common promoter
polymorphisms in the upstream promoter region. They are of importance and can affect MBL
serum level. These polymorphisms are found at positions 550 (H/L variant, where L is the wild
type allele) and 221 (X/Y variant, where Y is the

Insulin Resistance In Horses
Each year about 340 horses die due to effects of insulin resistance. That is almost half the deaths
caused by horse racing. If a horse or pony suffering from Insulin Resistance and they eat high sugar
feed, and eat normal, unsoaked hay the large increase in sugar may cause death or lead to serious
life threatening conditions. In horses that don t suffer from Insulin Resistance and Cushing s it
wouldn t be as great a concern if they got out and ate feed and hay, but thus act becomes life
threatening and fatal for horses and ponies suffering from Insulin Resistance and Cushing s. Insulin
Resistance, Cushings, and Endocrinopathic Laminitis are all very complex diseases that many
experts are still gaining an understanding for. Glucose, insulin, and cortisolare major factors not
only in Insulin Resistance (IR) and Cushings (PPID) as individual diseases, but they also serve to
link the two diseases to Endocrinopathic Laminitis in addition to each other. Insulin Resistance and

The elevated levels of cortisol that occur as a result of PPID are believed to contribute to the
insensitivity of stimulation and the resistance of laminitis. When the cortisol is secreted by the
pituitary gland it interferes with the lamellar perfusing, causing a vasoconstrictive response in the
equine digital arteries to the catecholamines. Also a cortisol excess results in protein catabolism in
the skin, connective tissue, bone and skeletal muscle, impaired wound healing, muscle atrophy
derived data are pointing to the fact that inflammation leads a pivotal role in laminitis (Johnson).
Some experts also believe that stress can lead to a horse becoming laminitic because of the
increased cortisol secretion that occurs due to stress. Since Laminitis is so incredibly painful for
the horses and ponies affected it causes them to experience extreme stress, which in turn causes a
dramatic spike in cortisol levels

The Bastard Out Of Carolina Analysis
The film The Bastard out of Carolina tells the story of Ruth Anne Boatwright, called Bone
(Huston, 1996). Bone is born out of wedlock in the 1950 s, a time when being illegitimate is a
serious stigma. Bone s birth certificate declares her illegitimate, which marks her for life as an
outcast. Her mother, Anney, 15 years old at the time of Bone s birth, soon marries a good,
hardworking man named Lyle and has another daughter. However, Lyle dies in a car accident.
Anney then marries Glen, who treats Bone well at first and takes her out to do fun things. But
when her brother dies at birth, Glen begins to beat her and molest her regularly. Bone s life
becomes a living nightmare as she endures constant sexual and physical abuse. When her aunt
spots the abuse, she tells Bone s uncles, who beat Glen nearly to death. Bone and her mother,
however, continue to return to Glen each time Glen promises not to abuse Bone again. The film
ends with Bone freeing herself from Glen, but watching her mother leave with him. Her mother s
last act of love is to give Bone a new birth certificate without the stigmatizing illegitimate stamped
across it. Bone s final words in the film are of love for her... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Although Bone is severely abused by Glen with her mother as a silent partner, Bone does not blame
them or stop protecting them. The family bond between Bone and Glen, formed in the first few
years of Anney and Glen s marriage, is changed but not broken by the abuse (Huston, 2016).
Eventually, Bone does want to be free of the abuse, but she continues to protect Glen, possibly from
the common tendency among children to not want anyone they love to get in trouble . Additionally,
she forgives her mother for abandoning her. Her final words indicate that she perceives the trauma
as normal and her mother s actions of staying with an abusive man as even

U.s. Taxpayers Paid $ 256 Billion For Healthcare
In 1980, U.S. taxpayers paid $256 billion for healthcare services. In 2012, they paid nearly $2.8
trillion for healthcare services (Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services. 2012). This represents a
tenfold increase in a single generation. Although some of the most expensive medical conditions to
treat may not be preventable, there are a myriad of preventable diseases that add to the economic
burden that Americans carry each year. When one also considers the rise in childhood obesity rates
and other related and non related chronic illnesses, the role of nurses as educators in our schools
and communities has become critical to the continued success of our nation.
In 2009, data were collected by the National Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) that clearly
demonstrated the relationship between health risk behaviors and academic achievement in high
school students. Students with higher grades were less likely to engage in health risk behaviors
such as cigarette smoking, alcohol use, unhealthy diets, and increased sexual activity.
Unfortunately, the statistics reported by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for
health risk behaviors in American adults were grim. In 2012, 42 million adults reported that they
smoked cigarettes and nearly 47% of American adults have at least one major risk factor for heart
disease or stroke. These included uncontrolled high blood pressure, uncontrolled high levels of
LDL cholesterol, lack of aerobic exercise, and poor nutrition.

The Heart Of Heart Failure
In the United States alone, 5.8 million Americans have been diagnosed with heart failure (Mancini
Colombo, 2015, p. 2542). Heart failure is a condition where the heart does not pump as efficiently;
therefore, it does not meet the needs of the body. There is a growing number of heart failure
patients each year. More than 300,000 deaths per year are attributed to heartfailure, and the annual
cost to manage these patients is close to $40 billion (Mancini Colombo, 2015, p. 2542). Since the
heart failure population is steadily growing in size the progress of therapies and management is
continuing to evolve. The greatest improvements have been surgery related. The two major surgical
approaches involve heart transplants or receiving a ventricular assist device(Mancini Colombo,
2015). There are much discussion in regardless to receiving a heart transplant versus a ventricular
assist device, destination therapy, as well as future advances in ventricular assist devices.
Heart Transplant versus LVAD There are many considerations when it comes to determining
whether an individual should receive a heart transplant or a ventricular assist device. For
instance, there are different stages of heart failure. The New York Heart Association classifies
heart failure into four distinctive groups (Class I, Class II, Class III, and Class IV) (Jarvik Heart,
Inc., 2008, para.2). Class I and Class II patients only experience symptoms with some sort of
physical activity,

Pew Research Article Summary
Americans receive many messages about support for gay rights ranging from clergy to gay men;
however, some are ambivalent, or undecided on the issue because of the numerous messages that
they are given (Garner 2013: 243). Andrew Garner wanted to test if contact with gays and lesbians
would elevate or decline levels of ambivalence among American s opinions about gay rights (241).
While this research question could be discovered in the abstract, the author never states the research
question clearly. Garner does provide immense detail about previous studies; however, he lacks
clear justification for the study, and the support he provided had to be collectively assumed rather
than explained. Assumingly, he argues that by understanding how gay... Show more content on

To test this hypothesis, he uses Pew Research Center for the People and the Press s 2004
Typology Survey from December 2004 and the late March callback survey, inclusive of 1,090
participants. The author provides a haughty analysis of the survey and how the data is
measured. The callback interviews asked respondents if they have a friend, colleague, or family
member who is gay, while the main survey asked two separate questions concerning how strongly
respondents support same sex marriage and acceptance of homosexuals as a way of life. Contact
is measured as a dichotomous or dummy variable indicating whether or not the respondent knew
someone who is gay, (249). The survey also asks questions about race, party identification, and
religious affiliation (249 250). Garner then describes how the variables are coded, are applied to
the Harvey Multiplicative Heteroskedastic Regression model, and the calculations required to
discuss the variables

Skinner s Theory Of Operant Conditioning Essay
Burrhus Frederic (B. F.) Skinner, an American behavioral psychologist who believed the idea that
human free will was an illusion and any human action was the result of the consequences of that
same action, developed an experiment to verify if superstition was present in pigeons. Skinner s
beliefs led him to conduct this research experiment which ultimately declared him as one of the top
psychologists of his era. Skinner believed that the best way to understand behavior was to look at
the causes of an action and its consequences. He called this approach operant conditioning. Skinner
s theory of operant conditioning was based on the work of Thorndike that he reviewed (1948).
Edward Thorndikestudied learning in animals using a puzzle box to propose the theory known as
the Law of Effect , responses that produce a satisfying effect in a situation become more likely to
occur again in that situation, and responses that produce a discomforting effect become less likely
to occur again in that situation. Skinner introduced a new term to Thorndike s theory known as
reinforcement (Skinner, 1948). Reinforcement is a stimulus (as a reward or the removal of an
electric shock) that increases the probability of a desired response in operant conditioning by being
applied or affected following the desired response. Skinner branched off Thorndike s approach
studied operant conditioning by experimenting on animals using conditioning chambers also known
as a Skinner box and in 1948

  • 2. The Indian History And The Status Of Women The Indian History and the Status of Women : Women s security is closely connected to global security still they suffer simply because they differ in gender. According to the UN Commission on Human Security, the security of one person, one community, one nation rests on the decisions of many others, sometimes fortuitously, sometimes precariously . However, in the interrelated world everyone is influenced either positively or negatively by the decisions of individuals or states (UNIFEM 2003). To understand the status of the Indian women it is important to understand the history gender discrimination in the country. In 1947, the Indian history of violence against women was perceivable in the violent nature of the nation s partition. The women were raped, abducted and their bodies were used as a medium of men s evil expression as Indian Hindus and the Pakistani Muslims battled for power to defend their countries. This tactic of humiliating the opponent by using women s bodies as a tool of power dominance is still being practiced in the Indian society and is visible in the cases of Devi and Sori (Dobhal 2011: 598). Mother India, commonly termed as Bharat Mata in Sanskrit is the national personification of India as a mother goddess which is widely depicted as a woman clad in a saffron sari holding the national flag. The position of women was high in India and some might argue that degrading positioning of women in the society is influenced by the impact of colonialism. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Personally I do not like hip hop I prefer dubstep or country. Hip hop music is disliked by most people who don t live in a city or an urban area. The reason Myself and many others dislike hip hop is because it does not relate to our lives so we do not enjoy it. Hip hop was made for people in urban area not country sides so that is my main point for not liking hip hop. My second point for not liking hip hop is the words don t relate to my life i don t really understand them either. • 4. Similarities Between Frederick Douglas And Malcom X For some education is a foregone conclusion, particularly those who are wealthy and have means to attend an institution of higher learning. Education is not the sole purview of the wealthy, while having means provides a lower bar for entry, lack of means does not prevent one from enlightening the self. Such is the case for both Frederick Douglas and Malcom X, two men who enlightened themselves without access to the wealth that tethers education to those of the upper class. Hard work and determination can win the day and bestow a freedom that only an advanced education offers. These two men are shining examples of what can be accomplished when someone refuses to be denied an education. This story tells about, Malcolm Xand Fredrick Douglas,... Fredrick Douglass who started life as a slave on Master Hughes plantation was taught to write by his Mistress in the beginning. As time went on Douglass Master forbade his wife from teaching Douglass any more lessons. Douglass has often said, My mistress, who had kindly commenced to instruct me, had, in compliance with advice and direction of her husband, not only ceased to instruct, but had set her face against my being instructed by anyone else . (403) Douglass was heartbroken as his Mistress s ceased to teach him and his thirst for knowledge grew. When Douglass first became the Mistress slave, she treated him with respect, took care of him, and began to teach him the basics of education. After being told by Master Hughes to stop Douglass s education the Mistress went above and beyond that order. Where she once would bring them newspapers to read together, she would now not let him anywhere near a newspaper for fear of her husband s reprisal. Even through all this he still yearned to learn. • 5. Sequence Matching And Pattern Matching INTRODUCTION : Pattern matching is a programming language method which is considered as important in functional programming. It is uses STRING MATCHING and PATTERN RECOGNITION. The main job of pattern matching is to check and decompose data. The object oriented programming languages do not have any particular method for this decomposition of data. So the Object oriented programmers are in need for a solutions for this problem of decomposition .For that problem as a solution a built in pattern matching construct is introduced which is compatible with object oriented programmingis proposed. And the data is to be defined separately for the operation on data to make matching useful. Pattern matching is presented in two ways,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the given input pattern matches , the pattern variables are bound to corresponding parts in the input value and the relative branch is executed in the an environment that improves with the pattern variable bindings. The object oriented way of analyzing and performing operations on data: Object oriented design is a method and style for software system development that amounts to encapsulating data and operations in abstractions. This method produces some abstractions that are usually implemented in an object oriented programming language, which supports the object oriented style through its syntax and semantics. It does so by providing an object model and by offering built in methods for object construction, method calls, field access and deletion of objects. Classifying abstractions and taking them apart into their subcomponents is not a built in construct of object oriented programming languages. Pattern matching will offer: Not only Readability and security, a high level method for pattern matching provides optimization and static checks. The disadvantage of object oriented solutions which are mentioned above is that the standard compilers can not check hand written case distinctions are based on type tests and type casts cover all the cases, or all branches can actually be entered. What I Ve Learned While Student Teaching Essay What I ve Learned While Student Teaching There are a few revelations that I have learned while student teaching that I was not aware of beforehand. First, I have learned that having high expectations for students truly motivates them to work hard and please their teacher. I knew this approach worked with my own children, but I saw first hand while studentteaching how a classroom full of students will work to reach the goals you set for them. All it takes is setting goals that are within their reach, providing them with the steps they need to be successful, and enforcing their hard work with positive motivation. Second, I had absolutely no idea how many children are pulled out of a classroom to receive services with the various interventionists and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, having an interventionist or therapist push in to your classroom with a small group of students was an absolute shock. This is extremely interruptive to the class who is picked to host the push in. The teacher is required to provide space for them to work and make room for them to bring in an oversized cart full of materials that can barely fit through the aisles of our desks. Imagine how distracting this is for the students in the classroom to have two lessons being taught at one time. I still have not figured out why they do not use other spaces in the school that would be much less disruptive to everyone involved. Next, I have learned that the teacher does not have much say in the methods he/she decides to use to teach reading or math. There are people who have been out of the classroom for years who are qualified to make the decisions for the teacher regardless of the fact that the school received the highest scores in the district. For example, at Hendrix, the teachers are required to teach ALL math and reading lessons in small groups. No longer can the teacher decide to teach a whole group lesson or a small group lesson. • 10. What Are Tacitus Motivations For Writing The Annals What are Tacitus reasons (both explicit and implicit) for writing The Annals? Tacitus motivations for writing The Annals are multifaceted. First, he was promoting the stance that the empire, despite its shortcomings, was necessary for the stability of Rome at the time. Secondly, he wanted to give an honest and fair account of Rome during the reigns of four emperors of the principate: Tiberius, Gaius, Claudius and Nero. A republic, like Rome, moves at a maddeningly slow pace. Legislation is put through a system of checks and balances where rivals debate ad nauseum over proposed policies. In a perfect world, this ensures that only which is most beneficial for the state and her peoples becomes a reality. A Tyrant, however, can accomplish a great deal in only a short amount of time. A good leader, like Augustus, can propel his people forward unhindered by the chains of a republic. The Roman people, according to Tacitus: prefered the security of the current regime to the dangers of old (Yardley 2008, 3). Even if it lacked freedom, many were willing to submit to an empire if it meant stability and security. Tacitus begins The Annals with a brief description of Augustus ascension and reign. While not a central figure to The Annals, Augustus is important because he is the originator of the principate that it revolves around. Before Augustus, Rome was a republic embroiled in civil war, turmoil, and on the path of destruction. August brought that unrest to heel and tamed Rome ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Furthermore, tourists that often go on such volunteering trips are young graduates with minimal knowledge and skills about the outer world and cultures (Wearing 2001, p. 146). This could potentially lead to generalised views of other cultures and may even lead to imposing their own culture on others, with or without intention. It is essential that volunteers are appropriately qualified and prepared so that they are perceived positively by their hosts and can make a genuine contribution, rather than simply absorbing time and resources (Raymond and Hall 2008, p. 531). Without the fundamental material and understanding the plight of people in poor lands, the promise of good outcomes would be counter productive and may only serve to imprint power and authority (McGloin, Georgeou 2015, p. 409). Being a pastry chef is a difficult job and requires a creative mind. I ve chosen this project to get a greater understanding of the art. Pastry chefs work in varies places, bake many pastries, and work long hours. Many get training on the job while others receive their training at a culinary school. Pastry chefs require an eye for detail and good managing skills; they must also be great at following directions. The history of the start of pastry chefs goes way back in time. The Assyrians are known as the first, in the eighth century BC, to conjoin very thin layers of bread dough with chopped nuts and honey to produce what we know as the Baklava (Made Man: History Of The Pastry Chef). Greek seamen discovered this and loved the pastry. They brought the recipe to Athens. Then, Greek pastry chefs discovered a way to roll the dough thinner and they created phyllo dough. French and Italian Renaissance pastry chefs took the primary phyllo dough recipe and perfected puff pastries , which were filled with anything from sweetmeats to fruits, small eggs or birds (Made Man: History Of The Pastry Chef). The famous philosopher Aristotle defined a comedy as quot;an imitation of characters of a lower type who are not bad in themselves but whose faults possess something ludicrous in them. quot; The misinterpretation of The Cherry Orchard could be mainly due to a misunderstanding of the comic character. The main theme of the play can be generally taken to be the passing of the old order of Russian society, symbolized by the sale of the cherry orchard. Robespierre Argumentative Dbq Maximilien Robespierre Argumentative DBQ On September 5, 1793, the National Convention of France declared terror the order of the day, which essentially meant that the government would take any and all necessary measures to maintain a sense of peace and stability. Strict laws and policies were imposed to ensure that the nation would continue to evolve and change. This day marked the beginning of the infamous Reign of Terror. The Reign of Terror was a period of turmoil in France following the onset of the French Revolution in 1789. Extreme violence and unwarranted brutality became standard during this decade. The spark that set off the Reign of Terror can be attributed to the king s attempted escape from France in 1791 (Document 6). It is impossible for people of the modern world to comprehend exactly what caused this mayhem simply because no one lived during that period. Regardless, the event left the nation in a state of shock and uncertainty. The National Convention was forced to make the difficult decision to place all of its power into an entirely new political branch, knowing that something different was needed to save France. Before he was chosen to run the Committee of Public Safety, Robespierre was revered for his courage and sheer determination. He ridiculed the notion that a monarchy could last and instead pushed for democratic reforms (Document 2). Robespierre spoke to the people of France with an air of confidence that quickly won them over. His morals were fundamentally based on the ideals of early enlightenment thinker Jean Jacques Rousseau. Both men asserted that man is good by nature but poisoned by society. Robespierre also believed that all men deserve to be treated as equals in the eyes of the law (Document 3). The central cause of the French Revolution was the nation s lack of a strong military in the face of civil war and foreign invasion. Rebuilding the military was arguably the most significant advancement that occurred during the Reign of Terror. Robespierre created a law called the Law of Universal Conscription in an effort to propel the French military to a reasonable state. This law mandated all men between the ages of 18 and 40 to join the army. Additionally, women were called into service to make uniforms. Robespierre further ensured that his troops were well fed and prepared to spring into combat at any moment by reserving the best bread for soldiers only. The works the End of East by Jen Sookfong Lee and the film Snow Falling on Cedars, directed by Scott Hicks, prove that a struggle for identity can be overcome if one overlooks the dissimilarities between two cultures. Every time something would go wrong with the car he would ask me to help him fix it. Not because I knew much about cars, because I didn t know anything about the subject, but because he wanted me to learn about cars and spend some time with me. Automatic transmissions, however, do not have this problem; they do not roll back on hills. A benefit of manual transmissions is acceleration. Cars with manual transmissions accelerate more rapidly and evenly than automatic transmissions, if you know exactly when to shift. Automatic transmissions accelerate a little slower. One very important con on automatic transmissions is that it gives much lesser mileage. Manual transmissions do not use any power from the engine to change gears, because you do that your self, thus saving you money. Another advantage on a car with a manual transmission is that, if your battery dies, you do not need jumper cables and an additional car. All you have to do to start up a car, with a manual transmission and a battery failure, is to push it to a reasonable speed (walking speed) and then jump in and start the vehicle. The manual gearbox just gives you a lot more control over your car. Like safermotoring.co.uk says, on one of their reports, Many veteran drivers who have experience of both types of transmission systems insist that a vehicle with a manual gearbox is safer because it gives them more control. I mean I don t know about you, but for me the more control I have over my car the better. Another con on automatic transmissions is that they are just boring to drive. In October 2013, Malala s autobiography I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban was released. However, the Taliban still had not given up and still considered the young activist a target. Malala remains a strong advocate for the power of education despite the continued threats by the Taliban. The European Parliament showed recognition for Malala by awarding her the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought. She was also nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize the same year, but fell short of winning it. Malala was a nominee again in 2014. In October 2014, Malala, along with Indian children s rights activist Kailash Satyarthi, received the Nobel Peace Prize. She (Malala) is the pride of Pakistan, she has made her countrymen proud. Her achievement is unparalleled and unequaled. Girls and boys of the world should take lead from her struggle and commitment. said Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Malala opened a school for Syrian refugee girls in Lebanon to celebrate her 18th birthday in 2015. 200 girls from the ages of 14 to 18 were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Characteristics Of A Nucleotide Substitutions Essay are G to A nucleotide substitutions. Consequently, these nucleotide substitutions result in three amino acid substitutions; arginine to cysteine, glycine to aspartic acid, and glycine to glutamic acid, respectively . All three mutations occur within the collagen domain changing its ability to oligomerize (the mutant forms). The wild type is termed allele A while the structural variants B, C and D are often gathered and referred to as zero (0) . Despite their uneven distribution in human populations, MBL gene variants are quite frequent . The frequencies of allele B are 0.14 among Caucasians, 0.25 among Asians and 0.50 among indigenous South Americans. However, allele B is extremely rare in West Africa. On the other hand, allele C is rare among Caucasians but common in sub Saharan Africa. Generally, Allele D is rather uncommon and to great extent is restricted to North Africans and Caucasians . The high incidence of structural variants among populations throughout the world may confer biological advantages as individuals heterozygous for B, C, and D may be protected against some intracellular pathogens i.e. Mycobacteria species and Leishmania species . Furthermore, studies of Madsen and his colleagues revealed two common promoter polymorphisms in the upstream promoter region. They are of importance and can affect MBL serum level. These polymorphisms are found at positions 550 (H/L variant, where L is the wild type allele) and 221 (X/Y variant, where Y is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Insulin Resistance In Horses Each year about 340 horses die due to effects of insulin resistance. That is almost half the deaths caused by horse racing. If a horse or pony suffering from Insulin Resistance and they eat high sugar feed, and eat normal, unsoaked hay the large increase in sugar may cause death or lead to serious life threatening conditions. In horses that don t suffer from Insulin Resistance and Cushing s it wouldn t be as great a concern if they got out and ate feed and hay, but thus act becomes life threatening and fatal for horses and ponies suffering from Insulin Resistance and Cushing s. Insulin Resistance, Cushings, and Endocrinopathic Laminitis are all very complex diseases that many experts are still gaining an understanding for. Glucose, insulin, and cortisolare major factors not only in Insulin Resistance (IR) and Cushings (PPID) as individual diseases, but they also serve to link the two diseases to Endocrinopathic Laminitis in addition to each other. Insulin Resistance and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The elevated levels of cortisol that occur as a result of PPID are believed to contribute to the insensitivity of stimulation and the resistance of laminitis. When the cortisol is secreted by the pituitary gland it interferes with the lamellar perfusing, causing a vasoconstrictive response in the equine digital arteries to the catecholamines. Also a cortisol excess results in protein catabolism in the skin, connective tissue, bone and skeletal muscle, impaired wound healing, muscle atrophy derived data are pointing to the fact that inflammation leads a pivotal role in laminitis (Johnson). Some experts also believe that stress can lead to a horse becoming laminitic because of the increased cortisol secretion that occurs due to stress. Since Laminitis is so incredibly painful for the horses and ponies affected it causes them to experience extreme stress, which in turn causes a dramatic spike in cortisol levels ... • 47. The Bastard Out Of Carolina Analysis The film The Bastard out of Carolina tells the story of Ruth Anne Boatwright, called Bone (Huston, 1996). Bone is born out of wedlock in the 1950 s, a time when being illegitimate is a serious stigma. Bone s birth certificate declares her illegitimate, which marks her for life as an outcast. Her mother, Anney, 15 years old at the time of Bone s birth, soon marries a good, hardworking man named Lyle and has another daughter. However, Lyle dies in a car accident. Anney then marries Glen, who treats Bone well at first and takes her out to do fun things. But when her brother dies at birth, Glen begins to beat her and molest her regularly. Bone s life becomes a living nightmare as she endures constant sexual and physical abuse. When her aunt spots the abuse, she tells Bone s uncles, who beat Glen nearly to death. Bone and her mother, however, continue to return to Glen each time Glen promises not to abuse Bone again. The film ends with Bone freeing herself from Glen, but watching her mother leave with him. Her mother s last act of love is to give Bone a new birth certificate without the stigmatizing illegitimate stamped across it. Bone s final words in the film are of love for her... The family bond between Bone and Glen, formed in the first few years of Anney and Glen s marriage, is changed but not broken by the abuse (Huston, 2016). Eventually, Bone does want to be free of the abuse, but she continues to protect Glen, possibly from the common tendency among children to not want anyone they love to get in trouble . Additionally, she forgives her mother for abandoning her. Her final words indicate that she perceives the trauma as normal and her mother s actions of staying with an abusive man as even ... • 49. U.s. Taxpayers Paid $ 256 Billion For Healthcare In 1980, U.S. taxpayers paid $256 billion for healthcare services. In 2012, they paid nearly $2.8 trillion for healthcare services (Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services. 2012). This represents a tenfold increase in a single generation. Although some of the most expensive medical conditions to treat may not be preventable, there are a myriad of preventable diseases that add to the economic burden that Americans carry each year. When one also considers the rise in childhood obesity rates and other related and non related chronic illnesses, the role of nurses as educators in our schools and communities has become critical to the continued success of our nation. In 2009, data were collected by the National Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) that clearly demonstrated the relationship between health risk behaviors and academic achievement in high school students. Students with higher grades were less likely to engage in health risk behaviors such as cigarette smoking, alcohol use, unhealthy diets, and increased sexual activity. Unfortunately, the statistics reported by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for health risk behaviors in American adults were grim. In 2012, 42 million adults reported that they smoked cigarettes and nearly 47% of American adults have at least one major risk factor for heart disease or stroke. These included uncontrolled high blood pressure, uncontrolled high levels of LDL cholesterol, lack of aerobic exercise, and poor nutrition. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. The Heart Of Heart Failure In the United States alone, 5.8 million Americans have been diagnosed with heart failure (Mancini Colombo, 2015, p. 2542). Heart failure is a condition where the heart does not pump as efficiently; therefore, it does not meet the needs of the body. There is a growing number of heart failure patients each year. More than 300,000 deaths per year are attributed to heartfailure, and the annual cost to manage these patients is close to $40 billion (Mancini Colombo, 2015, p. 2542). Since the heart failure population is steadily growing in size the progress of therapies and management is continuing to evolve. The greatest improvements have been surgery related. The two major surgical approaches involve heart transplants or receiving a ventricular assist device(Mancini Colombo, 2015). There are much discussion in regardless to receiving a heart transplant versus a ventricular assist device, destination therapy, as well as future advances in ventricular assist devices. Heart Transplant versus LVAD There are many considerations when it comes to determining whether an individual should receive a heart transplant or a ventricular assist device. For instance, there are different stages of heart failure. The New York Heart Association classifies heart failure into four distinctive groups (Class I, Class II, Class III, and Class IV) (Jarvik Heart, Inc., 2008, para.2). Class I and Class II patients only experience symptoms with some sort of physical activity, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Pew Research Article Summary Americans receive many messages about support for gay rights ranging from clergy to gay men; however, some are ambivalent, or undecided on the issue because of the numerous messages that they are given (Garner 2013: 243). Andrew Garner wanted to test if contact with gays and lesbians would elevate or decline levels of ambivalence among American s opinions about gay rights (241). While this research question could be discovered in the abstract, the author never states the research question clearly. Garner does provide immense detail about previous studies; however, he lacks clear justification for the study, and the support he provided had to be collectively assumed rather than explained. Assumingly, he argues that by understanding how gay... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To test this hypothesis, he uses Pew Research Center for the People and the Press s 2004 Typology Survey from December 2004 and the late March callback survey, inclusive of 1,090 participants. The author provides a haughty analysis of the survey and how the data is measured. The callback interviews asked respondents if they have a friend, colleague, or family member who is gay, while the main survey asked two separate questions concerning how strongly respondents support same sex marriage and acceptance of homosexuals as a way of life. Contact is measured as a dichotomous or dummy variable indicating whether or not the respondent knew someone who is gay, (249). The survey also asks questions about race, party identification, and religious affiliation (249 250). Garner then describes how the variables are coded, are applied to the Harvey Multiplicative Heteroskedastic Regression model, and the calculations required to discuss the variables ... • 52. Skinner s Theory Of Operant Conditioning Essay Burrhus Frederic (B. F.) Skinner, an American behavioral psychologist who believed the idea that human free will was an illusion and any human action was the result of the consequences of that same action, developed an experiment to verify if superstition was present in pigeons. Skinner s beliefs led him to conduct this research experiment which ultimately declared him as one of the top psychologists of his era. Skinner believed that the best way to understand behavior was to look at the causes of an action and its consequences. He called this approach operant conditioning. Skinner s theory of operant conditioning was based on the work of Thorndike that he reviewed (1948). Edward Thorndikestudied learning in animals using a puzzle box to propose the theory known as the Law of Effect , responses that produce a satisfying effect in a situation become more likely to occur again in that situation, and responses that produce a discomforting effect become less likely to occur again in that situation. Skinner introduced a new term to Thorndike s theory known as reinforcement (Skinner, 1948). Reinforcement is a stimulus (as a reward or the removal of an electric shock) that increases the probability of a desired response in operant conditioning by being applied or affected following the desired response. Skinner branched off Thorndike s approach studied operant conditioning by experimenting on animals using conditioning chambers also known as a Skinner box and in 1948 ...
