Language And Academic Development And The Effective...
2.What was the background for the research study? That is, what previous knowledge did the
author describe as a foundation for the study in the review of related literature ? The background
for the research study provided insight into the theoretical and pedagogical aspect of using native
language (L1) with a focus on the aspects that most relate to adult ESL classes. The areas addressed
were both the affective aspects of learning related to bilingualism and academic development and
the effective classroom practices. Knowing that individuals organize and learn information by
thinking and feeling, teachers need to keep in mind that the emotional self is a strong factor in
learning. Native language is an important part of culture and creating opportunities for using L1
might be quite beneficial to learning the target language (TL), in this case English. The nature of
bilingualism was addressed and as Huerta Macias and Kephart cited Cook (1992), learners cannot
simply shut down their knowledge of one language when using the other. Adults whose cognitive
development exceeds their linguistic ability in the TL may find an English only class frustrating.
Another important element of the background research was the understanding that adults will learn
English differently than students in a K 12 setting. For adults, language is best taught through
content, as a tool for communicating and learning. Use of L1 in adult ESL classrooms serves
multiple purposes, such as

Examples Of Suffering In Night By Elie Wiesel
For the dead and the living we must bear witness (Elie Wiesel). In the novel Night by Elie Wiesel, it
describes the hardships people had to endure throughout World War II, and how suffering brings out
the worst in people. No one is immune to corruption brought upon them from suffering. The Jews,
including Elie, along with the Nazi officials all seem to suffer both physically and mentally. Put
ting these groups together creates a lethal combination of mental instability which shows the innate
flaw in human nature. Most notably, the jews suffering in the camps had a very big impact on
many of them throughout the war. When one of the inmate mentions: I have more faith in Hitler
than in anyone else (Wiesel 81). This signifies that although... Show more content on

When Elie is ordered to go on a march, he and others witness a youth about his similar age being
hung for stealing food. I remember that on that evening the soup tasted better than ever (Wiesel
63). This indicates that Elie had shown no emotion towards the event, and in turn was happy
that he was able to eat the soup, even if it was at the expense of another individual. Additionally,
as Elie s father is dying towards the end of the novel, Elie shows no empathy towards him as he
is being beaten by the Nazi SS Official. I heard his voice...yet I did not move (Wiesel xi). Elie
later regrets this terrible event however, but this just suggests how he was corrupted at that time
after seeing all those people suffer and not do anything about. It then ultimately it happened to
his father, and he did not do anything about it. Moreover, Elie is very religious at the beginning
of the story, and is eager to learn more about the Jewish religion. However, as the book
progresses, he begins to lose faith in his own God. After seeing all these terrible horrors, he
exclaims, For God s sake, where is God? (Wiesel 65). This statement clearly validates that as he
watches all this abomination take place, he wonders where God

Security Guard Training Report
Information that I had gathered.
On the State Universities Civil Service System website, they have posted every Civil Service
classification and pay scale from all the universities but ours. The starting Pay Rate of the
Security Guards is $13.06 and the max pay rate is at $14.62. The Security Officers have a starting
pay rate of $17.00 and as of now, no max pay rate. Attached are pictures of the pay rate and a link to
said website.
пЃ¶Uniforms
пѓ The uniforms of the Security Officers are entirely different from the Security Guards. The
Guards Uniform consist of: A black blazer with a UI Health logo patch and the words Security
Guard above it on the front right side, a white button down dress shirt, gray dress like pants and
black shoes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This consist of the infant/child abduction security system failure (Code Pink) on the 4th and 5th
floors, and special assignments in the psychiatric unit (8 east) which is locked. In this unit, they
have adults, adolescents, and children.
5. Patient Restraints
This is being done in the Emergency Department. This only occurs when a patient is being
combative, verbally abusive and threatening the medical staff, and/or is a danger to themselves.
These restraints can also happen on any floor throughout of the hospital with authorization from a
doctor or charge nurse.
пЃ¶Patrolling
пѓ The Security Guards do not patrol the hospital. They are standing at fixed locations through
the concourse to the second floor and rotate location every hour while the Security Officers patrol
the entire hospital. They radio into dispatch saying where they are within the hospital and clearing
themselves from each floor, or if we just patrolling the whole building. The sergeant will give
dispatch a list of security officers who are on duty and if any assignments come up, dispatch will
assign it ONLY to Security Officers. For example, patient property, patient restraints, standbys, and
any other calls that may be received while on

The Supreme Courts Decision And The Court s Court
In the first scenario, there was a motion to suppress the rifle and shells that were seized from the
glove compartment and under the passenger seat. However, the Supreme Court established three
components that an officer may search in vehicle searches if the search is valid. Conduct a
search of the passenger compartment of a car and of the contents therein if it is incident to a
lawful arrest. Search the entire car and open the trunk and any packages or luggage found therein
that could reasonably contain the items they are looking for. Search a container in a car if there is
probable cause to believe that it holds contraband or seizable items, even in the absence of
probable cause to search the car. In addition, there are three cases that... Show more content on

Belton argued that a warrantless seizure of evidence in the passenger compartment, after
arrested is a violation of his constitutional rights. The court ruled that yes, the police may conduct
a warrantless search of the passenger compartment of a vehicle incident to a lawful arrest. The
search may include containers found within the passenger compartment. The case extended the
places in a vehicle an officer could search. Furth more, the case of United States v. Ross
confirmed the court s decision legal in scenario one. Police received a tip from a reliable
informant that Ross was selling drugs from his vehicle. Officers stopped the car and began to
search the vehicle. During the search they found, a bullet in the front seat of the vehicle, and a
pistol in the passenger in compartment. They extended the search to the trunk of the car after
Ross was arrested, where they found a closed paper bag of drugs. In this case, the court
confirmed that the police have probable cause to justify the warrantless search of a car, they may
search the entire car, and open the trunk and any packages or luggage found therein that could
reasonably contain the items for which they have probable cause to search. The court s decision
made the officers in scenario two search legal as they searched the passenger compartment where
the officer opened a box filled with ammunition. Although the officers action was legal in scenario 1

Theatre Personal Statement Essay
What got you interested in Theatre?
My interest in theatre started when I was living in Spain. My parents started a theatre company
with other military and US teachers. From the ages of 4 9, I got to play small roles or work
backstage on plays ranging from Shakespeare to Neil Simon. Where did you study and how long
did it take?
In Undergrad, I majored in theatre and opera. Immediately after graduating I continued my studies
in theatre and opera performance in graduate school. The overall time in University was 7 years.
After Graduate school, I continued to train as an actor in NYC for three years at Terry Schreiber
Studios. How about your time on television, how did it differ from your theatre experience?
Having an understanding of Stanislavski s concentration exercises and the magic as if made it
much easier to focus acting to fit the lens. The other difference between film and TV is the order
in which the story is revealed. In a play, we start at page 1 and ... Show more content on

I have many favorite memories, but here are two. When I was working on CYRANO DE
BERGERAC at the Walnut St. Theatre. The profoundly talented actor, Alan Scarfe was playing
Cyrano. Every moment I wasn t onstage, I stayed in the wings to watch his performance;
particularly the last scene where CYRANO dies. Oh, the simplicity of delivering heightened
language and pure emotion he was able to conjure!! Some of the best training I ve ever had.
The second memory was when I was cast in a National Tour of SHLEMIEL THE FIRST. The
super star here was the director, David Gordon, whom I had the privilege to work with several
times after the tour. David Gordon is one of the best movement based directors I ve ever worked
with. He was a master choreographer for the actor and could get a room full of people with
different skill sets to create stunning moving images. Also, I got my Equity Card from this tour and
was cast in the Broadway bound

Analysis Of Jia Chien s Influence On The International...
Jia Chien is the middle daughter who is ambitious in advancing her career as a corporate airline
executive, having little time for her family and desiring to quickly move out of the house. Jia
Chien s position shows how women in modern Taiwan occupy jobs in essentially all job markets,
yet the fact that she is an executive contrasts even the modern woman gender rolewhere women do
not typically own managerial positions (Gold 1114). Additionally, the Taiwanese airline she works
for is expanding into new countries by acquiring new airline routes in the international market
(Dilley 48) which compares to how Taiwan desired to globalize through markets such as the United
States. However the same statement diverges from the notion that western nations are the dominant
forces in globalization and instead, the Taiwanese are now the perpetrators of globalization,
exerting its own influence on the international market. It is then revealed that Jia Chien originally
wanted to pursue the culinary arts, actually having much talent for cooking, but in the past her
father Mr. Chu forbade her from becoming a chef and even from being in the kitchen. Mr. Chu s
reasoning is that Jia Chien should have a better life with a university education than him, leading to
Jia Chien s bitterness to her father and complicating their relationship. Mr. Chu s seemingly
oppressive behavior symbolizes Taiwan s traditional familyvalues as he has power over his daughter
and dictates what she can or cannot do.

The Mexica Empire against Hernan Cortes Essay
The Totonacs joined forces with Cortes against the emperor and his allies. Other neighboring towns
that resented the deplorable Aztec hegemony stopped paying tribute as a gesture of support for the
Spanish. As a response, those in power at TenochtitlГЎn sent forces to Cempoala to punish the
defiance but the Spanish with newly acquired allies defeated the advancing army (Castillo). It was
here at Cempoala that the Spanish would meet the Tlaxcalans for the very first time, prompting a
standoff between the two. Openly opposing the Mexica empire, the Tlaxcalans were a force to be
reckoned with since they had twice prevented Aztecdomination (Portilla) and were suspicious of
the Spanish at first especially when the conquistadors accepted... Show more content on

The conquistadors defeated the warriors of the Mexica empire due to a number of reasons that
not only pertain to the weapons they possessed. Interestingly enough, all the steel and horses
contributed to the physical aspect of war but on a psycho social level, it was the Aztecs varying
conception of warfare that led to Spanish victory. Conquistadors were taught to fight to the death
and move on to the next one while the Aztecs would focus a large amount of energy to capturing
and taking prisoners (Brandt). Whether it was for personal reasons or the desire for human
sacrifice, this concept impeded their chances of winning battles. Isolation can be noted as a small
factor as well since the Aztecs kept their empire confined to the continent and never branched out to
discover new technology.
The Spanish on the other hand had a very strong background in exploration with ties to naval and
advanced military tactics. These men were cogs in a powerful war machine that was the reason
Charles V had so much land and power. With exploration comes new discovery such as new
weapons and advancements in warfare. In every way possible, Spanish military dominance
consisting of steel, cavalry, and gunpowder was underlying reason the natives never stood a chance.
Toledo steel fashioned into swords, spears, and pikes were the bread and butter of the

HBR Case Revitalizing Dell Essay

Case Revitalizing Dell I. Diagnosis
Question 1: The most critical shifts in Dell s contextual factors, including industry dynamics, trends,
technology changes and shift of the competitive landscape are following: The industry has changed
significantly over the last 20 years. The traditional business model in the PC industry was inside
out, supplying machines based on orders from distribution, resell and retail channels, thus following
the indirect selling concept. Dell s direct model was at this time a new, challenging concept, taking
orders directly from the end consumer, and thereby, eliminating the middleman, costs and time. This
was the initial crucial shift away from the traditional schema, allowing Dell s quick ... Show more

After a series of confusing initiatives and consequent losses, it was acquired by Acer, leading to
the next dynamics shift, which critically affected Dell later on (mid 2000s), but in a much less
fortunate way. Acer praised itself with 100% indirect selling, entirely contrasting Dell s business
model. Acer established its competitive edge with its portfolio of brands, offering an extensive
line of less expensive products. In fact, in 2009, Acer passed Dell to be the world s largest PC
provider in unit terms, as its sheer size allowed the company to tailor brands to customer segments
and geography, while having the volume to demand discounts from component suppliers and
contract manufacturers (p.12).
d) Acer: Acer s rise and Dell s consequent decline were largely reliant on the shift of interests of
industries and consumers. Firstly, the PC industry shifted more and more towards outsourcing
production, and thereby created lower priced products, which were welcomed by customers, as
their needs shifted more and more towards cheaper products, which were acquirable in retail
stores. Since the market in the US has become fairly saturated, the dynamics of the PC industry
shifted increasingly towards cheaper products, as emerging countries such as India or China
demand for PC s (and laptops) vastly outnumbers any other market. In addition, younger customers
(i.e. school kids) have become a rising market segment as well, as

1960s, the black partners started neighborhood control. In these neighborhood controls they were

Inequality In The Great Depression
1). Wealth and Inequality in the Great Depression: How does Mr. Deeds respond to his newfound

MR. DEEDS GOES TO TOWN is a classic and comic story of Longfellow Deeds, a rural fellow

If they don t make it in time we will have to evacuate the city and who ever is left behind we must

and they caught him running through the woods where Gale and I hunt. That day the capitol found

The Holy Bible, By William Miller
Many people often ask themselves: Who am I. why do people exist. They wonder is there someone
or something that created everything. Throughout history, cultures and countries have developed
their beliefs on what religion and God is to them. Churches today still share similar traditions and
beliefs as ancient churches, but yet there are so many sects of religion and followings. When you
think Christianityyou may miss count all the diverse teachings. With all these different teachings,
they all teach from The Holy Bible, but the scripture is translated in my different perspectives.
Even though churches all read from the same book, The Holy Bible , it all comes down to how
each church translates the word. Seventh Day Adventist is a type of Protestant Christian
denomination distinguished by its observance of the seventh day of the week in Christian and
Jewish calendars, which is Saturday. William Miller, S. S. Snow, Joseph Bates, James White,
and Mrs. Ellen G. White founded Seventh Day Adventists. Ellen White has several books over
the Seventh Day Adventist and her writings are still held in power by the Church. One of her
writings, 28 Fundamental Beliefs, provides the church with guidance. Some of the 28
fundamental beliefs include: belief in Trinity, belief in Life and death and resurrection of Jesus
Christ, belief in Unity in the body of Christ, belief in Baptism in full water submersion, belief in

Telephone Conversation By Soyinka
Wole Soyinka s Telephone Conversation is an eloquent exchange of dialogue between a dark
West African man and his British landlady that inexorably verges on the question of apartheid.
The poet makes use of the most articulate means to air his views, through that of a telephone
conversation, where there is instant and natural give and take. It exhibits a one to one
correspondence between the two. The interaction between a coloured and a white individual at
once assumes universal overtones. At the outset, the poet says that the price seemed reasonable
and the location indifferent . Note that as a word, even though the word indifferent denotes
being unbiased , it is a word with negative connotations. However, as we come across the
Landlady s biased nature; the word indifferent gains positive overtones, as it is better than being
impartial. The lady swears that she lived off premises . Nevertheless, the very aspect of his colour
poses a problem to her, far from her promise to remain aloof. Nothing remains for the poet, he says,
but confession. It gives a picture of him sitting in a confessional, when he hasn t committed any
crime....his crime is his colour, his remorse is solutionless. He... Show more content on

Fake Heroes Vs Kids Wish Networks
Of all the evils in this world, few are worse than fake charities. Taking advantage of people s

significantly conflicting perceptions regarding the interpretation of general facts, attitudes towards

differences might result in mistrust, differing views on reform propositions, conflicting mind sets

PPs had contrasting perceptions about the different components of the TB programme such as the

Other reasons of mistrust are due to the NCTB s sense of losing control due to the transfer of the
responsibilities of direct supervision of patients and healthcare workers in administering DOTS to
external partners [1], and the mutual lack of experience in intersectoral collaboration [3].
Mistrust can also arise from the neglect of working relationship among significant actors on the
ground in implementing partnership. Kielmann et al. (2013) suggested that TB HVs had rather
limited flexibility in work schedule as senior officers implemented the very strict system of
checks and balances [2]. Communications, interactions, relationships Most of the studies have
pinpointed the importance of communications, interactions, and relationships among the NTP,
NGOs, PPs and other providers. In Maharashtra, India, for instance, over the years, the city TB
centre recognised the need for regular contact with the PPs to ensure their involvement in PPM
DOTS. TB HVs were also used to approach existing DOT provider PPs and request other PPs to
participate in PPM DOTS or to refer their TB suspects/ patients to the RNTCP [8]. However,
despite the TB HVs interacted with PPs on a regular basis, these interactions were inherently
unequal and ambivalent. TB HVs were in the awkward position of exercising control over PPs: one
the one hand, PPs were the profession they would respect and obey otherwise; on the other hand,
the non medical status of the TB HVs limited their interaction with the

Culture forms as sense of who we are in the larger community in which we exist among. This
connection shapes the rules we follow to exist to peacefully live with one another. The culture

Jacket Analysis
What sections of the Jacket do you enjoy reading? Why? Everything, I think I ve read an article
from every section and I think they are all good. I enjoy reading about the school because it
helps me understand what it will be like next year at the school What do you think are the Jacket
s strengths? What could be improved? I ve only read about thirty articles of the Jacket, and I
have loved every single one. They are so educational and professional! Everything is well written
and well researched. Even the opinion articles take a look at both sides. What could be improved?
I have no idea. Everything seems well written and thought out. It would be cool if there was a

Free Will Vs Determinism Essay
Free Will Vs. Determinism
There is a wide range of philosophical views about the relationship between determinism and free
will. These include, hard determinism, compatibilism, and libertarianism. When comparing free
will and determinism the contrasts are quite evident. Hard determinists believe that free will does
not exist, because determinism is true and incompatible with free will. While compatibilists believe
that determinism is true, but free will is compatible with determinism. Libertarianists believe that
we have free will, and determinism is incompatible with free will, meaning determinism must be
false. In the simplest form, free will is the ability to choose actions without being influenced by
others or natural laws. After learning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Growing up in a such a privileged environment resulted in the boys having a superior mind set. In
order to prove that they were indeed, superior, the boys intended to commit the perfect crime .
Loeb and Leopold kidnapped and murdered Loeb s fourteen year old cousin, Bobby Franks. The
rich and powerful families of the two boys hired Clarence Darrow as their defense attorney in
hopes to save them from receiving the death penalty. Darrow debated along the lines of hard
psychological determinism. Meaning that actions are determined in advance by factors out of our
control. Darrow argued that the boys were not morally responsible for the crime because their
unique combinations of heredity and environment led them to commit the crime. Fundamentally,
Bobby Franks was not the only victim, Loeb and Leopold also were. The case eventually resulted
in Loeb and Leopold getting sentenced to a life in prison instead of receiving the death penalty.
Hard determinists argue that we acknowledge the fact that events have causes. An example we
talked about in class that supported this argument was about pain. Imagine that you suddenly
experienced a sharp pain in your side and went to the hospital to seek help from your doctor. Only
to result in the doctor explain that nothing is wrong with you. In response, most would probably
argue that there must be something wrong because there is pain. This example shows that although

Analysis of Mozart s K. 515 Mvt. 1
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Quintet No. 3 in C major, K. 515

11/19/2012
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a prodigy of his time, and arguable the greatest of all time. This
paper will discuss an analysis of his third string quintet in C major, K. 515. Through this piece in
Sonata Form we will dissect the exposition, the development, the recapitulation, and the coda;
along with an analysis of the quintet we will briefly discuss parts of Mozart s life, as well as look
at the background of the Viola Quintet No. 3 in C Major, K. 515. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozartwas
born into a musical family after his sister Nannerl, by his father and mother Leopold and Anna
Maria. His beginnings would originate in Salzburg, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As with codas we find our final theme in the piece the part proceeding the measure of rest (see
Figure 5). Delving deeper into the coda we find theme two reoccurring in the tonic key, this time
not segregated by instrument parts. For the first time in the movement we see the two viola parts
obviously playing what is the theme (see Figure 6), right before we see the second viola briefly
mingle with the cello.
Figure [ 6 ]
After the brief return of theme two between the cello and violas we end happily on the tonic of
the piece. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this piece. Not only this piece but also this assignment.
It is one thing to sit in class and read about and take notes over sonata allegro form. It is
completely another to be expected to dive deeper into a piece and try to figure out its inner most
workings. As a violist I also appreciate the fact that Mozart went against the normality of the
cello quintet and wrote a viola quintet. The fact he was willing to go against what was expected
of him by society makes me respect him as a composer even more. After a glimpse into the life
of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, we have discussed his Quintet No. 3 in C major. Discussed its
themes and their placement, as well as briefly the variations of these themes. We also saw a brief
glimpse into history around the time that the K. 515 and what could be considered

What Is The Mood Of The Poem The Pigeons And The Girls
The Pigeons And The Girls by Christopher Middleton was a poem about how everyone is the
same, whether it be an animal or a human. The poem is also told in two point of views; the girl s
point of view and then the pigeon s point of view. I could not find many rhetorical terms in the
poem except one. I also feel like Middleton is somehow trying to compare the fragile woman
with a pigeon, or he is trying to make a reference to how sometimes girls can seem small or
flightful like birds. Imagery was the only rhetorical term that I found in the poem, and it was in the
quotes, a thigh or hip bone was not working right, and she still held the other by the hand...she was
thin, she limped. The quote brought out the image of a young lady walking

Public Housing Assistance Programs
Ever since the New Deal, the Federal Government has been spending billions of dollars each year to
ensure that everyone has a roof over their head. Out of this effort eventually arose the Department
of Housing and Urban Development, which now administers three main public housing assistance
programs (Edson, 2011). Much literature providing an overview of housing vouchers distinguishes
between the different types of rental assistance, including project units, Section 8 project based
assistance, and Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers. It is important to distinguish between tenant
based assistance and rental based assistance (HUD.Gov, 2017). In his paper, Olson differentiated

the educational attainment of the parents, he provides differences in test scores between high
and low income children, concluding that the educational achievement gap has widened in
recent years (Reardon, 2011). To demonstrate this gap numerically for the state of Iowa, the
DailyHerald has compiled a working database on the test score differences, depending on the
individual grade of the child and income bracket of the child s family (Broderick, 2014).
Additionally, sociologists Geoffrey Wodtke and David Harding conducted a study to measure the
high school graduation rate of high poverty, versus low poverty children and found that the
chances of finishing high school are far lower for children whose families are in the lowest
income bracket than for more economically privileged children (Wodtke Elwert, 2011). Databases
from The College Board reveal that this gap in achievement also translates into SAT scores, and
later acceptance into college. Individual standardized test scores rise with the income of the student

Tobias Wolff s Profound Literature Elements

Tobias Wolff s Profound Literature Elements Many people believe Tobias Wolff is considered
much of a critic mainly because his childhood was affected by his parent s separation. Little by
little, he started to become like a critic until he went to the army. Furthermore, when he came back
he became more pessimistic than critical some might say. His short stories are acknowledged by
many readers because of the true meaning of aspirations some people could think they can make
out of it. Some say Wolff created a new thinking perspective by creating the short storyBullet in the
Brain . The reason readers say that is because the story ends up being more profound that they
would have thought when they read it from the beginning. It all starts off with a negative person
who can t keep his mouth shut. Then, that very same person is shot in the head having his last
memories be something unusual that an average person would not have recalled as their last
memory. Although Tobias Wolfflived an unusual lifestyle, he turns out to write one of the best
short stories Bullet in the Brain , by using irony, imagery, theme, style, and tone all within a few
pages; which shows why his childhood affected this writing piece he has created. In 2001 when the
audience read Wolff s short story Bullet in the Brain , they realized that there were a various
amount of meaningful elements. However, there are more critical than positive elements.

Disadvantages Of Charismatic Leadership
Charismatic leaders have been the boon and the bane of humanity for as long as recorded
human history illustrates. Most people agree that charisma can be a double edged sword
capable of producing both positive and negative outcomes. (Lussier, Achua, 20216) This is
where we as humans wonder about our existence. We lead and we are led. Some successes are
recorded while many failures fall by the wayside. Still, there are some successes we would rather
not have experienced. There is a game which children have played over the years. The game is
aptly named, Would You Rather . In this game, one asks the group, Would you rather meet your

The assigned value to each leader is directly linked to the values instilled in or owned by the
beholder. Magnificence is esteemed in saving other humans from a demise such as death. We
may presume that Oskar Schindler is a hero. This was established by Schindler risking his life,
liberty, and property to save as many Jewish people as he could from the horrors of genocide
during World War II. Although, when we further look into his life, he was a human with his
human frailties some might consider sins. We learn that Schindler did not actually create a list as
was made popular in the movie directed by Steven Spielberg. Instead, Marcel Goldberg, a Jewish
clerk assigned to the new Plaszow commandant Arnold Buscher, played the largest role in
compiling the transport list. It is generally agreed that Buscher, an SS officer, could not have
cared, within certain numerical limits, who went on the list, according to Thomas Keneally. It s
also agreed that Goldberg engaged in a certain amount of corruption in who he added to the list
and, moreover, that there was not even one list but rather different lists that emerged over a series
of months. (Anderson, 2014) Contrary to popular beliefs, Schindler was an ordinary business man
who, being at the right time and right place in history, evolved from having monetary interests, into
the interest of saving Jewish people from the horrors of the concentration camps. As we consider

The Guidon Essay
The guidon, also referred to as the colours or the standard, is an important and time honored piece
of the military s history that is still observed and revered today. The guidon is thought to have
originated from ancient Egytptian times, where it was believed to have represented rulers and the
armies they commanded. The idea endured well into medieval European times as it was used to
depict each commanders specific coat of arms. This is so that each soldier could see through the
dust and smoke created from the battlefield where their particular regimentwas located, so as not to
be separated from them. We still use guidons today, though maybe not for the same purpose or in
the same situations, mainly because of how advanced warfare... Show more content on

Later, battle honors were added to the colours, which made them even more significant and were
revered even more by members of the regiment. The colours are never destroyed capriciously
anymore. When they get too old and worn out to be used or displayed as the uit standard, they
are moved to museums until they moulder into dust. However, in modern armies, if the colours
are in danger of being captured by the enemy, there are standing orders for them to be destroyed.
It is for this reason and the advent of modern weapons, and subsequent changes in tactics, colours
are no longer carried into battle. However, they are still used at formal events and ceremonies.
The word guidon derives from the Italian guidone meaning guide or marker and/or the Middle
French corruption guyd hommes, hence it is the focus for soldiers in battle. The significance of
the guidon is that it represents the unit and its commanding officer. When the commander is in,
his or her guidon is displayed for everyone to see. When he leaves for the day, the guidon is taken
down. It is an honor, although sometimes a dubious one, to be the guidon carrier for a unit,
known as a guidon bearer or guide . He or she stands in front of the unit alongside of the
commander (or the commander s representative), and is the rallying point for troops to fall into
formation when the order is given. In drill and ceremonies the guidon and commander are always in
front of the formation.

Similarities Between Achaemenid And Greek Empires
The Achaemenid Empire was one of the strongest empires in Southwest Asia during the first
millennium B.C.E. Courageous and skilled Persian conquerors allowed Persian rule to spread
beyond Persian territory, creating one of the largest early empires (Dunn Mitchell, 2014). However,
across the Mediterranean Sea was dwelled a more advanced empire with a stronger military, the
Greeks (Dunn Mitchell, 2014). These prominent early empires possessed many similarities and held
the ultimate goal of building and maintaining an advanced empire and society. Yet, their
Southwestern and Afro Eurasian cultures consisted of several different beliefs and ways of life.
The 5th and 6th century B.C.E polytheistic Greek traditions tremendously differed from the religion
of the Achaemenid Empire, which believed solely in Ahu Mazda, the supreme god (Dunn Mitchell,
2014). The political structures of the Achaemenid and Greek Empires were also vastly dissimilar,

Mitchell, 2014). Unlike the Greek Empire, the Achamenid dynasty was unified under one emperor.
However, the emperor and his entourage moved throughout Persia, thus there was no specific
capital (Dunn Mitchell, 2014). Dunn Mitchell (2014) found that the Persian Empire was a funnel of
trade . Their early popularity and dominance among Southwestern territory resulted in their
universal mission to rule the world (Dunn Mitchell, 2014). The Persians were one of the first

I Put A Spell On You Analysis
If the stage cannot be richer than the cinema, let it be poor
Jerzy Grotowski believed in the supreme power of an actor s performance above all else and that
great theatre does not need extravagant sets, costumes, props or gimmicks and that in fact the actor
s voice and body skills should be primary spectacle on stage .
The 12 dramatic elements are a set of concepts designed to help an actor deliver a believable
performance. All 12 elements when used cohesively, is guaranteed to help an actor become the
primary spectacle on stage.
Focus, space and sound are important elements that were showcased in Que Sera, Sera and I Put A
Spell On You .
In Que Sera, Sera , sound worked as a means of contrast, authenticity and character development.
Within the performance contrast using sound played an important part. In the opening scene, as
each character introduced themselves to the audience by checking in for their appointment,
characters clearly differentiated from the other, with a loud and over excitable character to a
character who barely spoke and when she did, was barely a whisper. The sound and tone of voice
used for each character helped develop each character separately and made clear that there was
diversity and contrast among the characters. Que Sera, Sera used minimal stage props and minimal
artifical sound, and instead the actors focused on using their own voices to not only read dialogue
but create natural sound within the scenes. Using voice to make Onomatopoeic sounds to create

The Benefits Of A Single Stage To Orbit
A Single Stage to Orbit (SSTO) spaceplane would have many advantages over current methods of
getting people and equipment into space. Chief among these is major cost reduction. SSTOs
would be fully reusable, being that they are meant to send people to space and bring them back. A
fully reusable single stage space plane would have an advantage over a fully reusable rocket
booster, similar to what was used on the shuttle, and what is being used as the first stage on
SpaceX s Falcon 9. In fact, the Falcon 9 has already started to pay off to SpaceX. According to an

There is a challenge for TSTOs to overcome: air friction being directed on the vehicle from its
booster, while separating. The paper Aeroheating Characteristics for a Two Stage To Orbit Concept
During Separation at Mach 6 , investigates the issue. This study looked into the aeroheating on two
crafts when separating so one can make it into space, while the other, the first stage, returns to land.
The study found that in the small scale test conducted that there were not much negative effects of
heating from friction on one craft to the other. This would appear to be a positive development for
the TSTO community as it is possible to get a craft into space by attaching it to another.
As is seen in Investigation of Two Stage to Orbit Airbreathing Launch Vehicle Conп¬

there are many possible configurations for a TSTO. The kind this paper explored most was the
booster craft had the orbiter attacked on top of it, similar to how NASA transported the Shuttles on

Separation at Mach 6 shows the characteristics of aeroheating during the separation of the top

African Minkisi and American Culture Essay
African Minkisi and American Culture
I. Introduction
African Minkisi have been used for hundreds of years in West Central Africa, This area where they
are traditionally from was once known as the kingdom of Kongo, when Europeans started settling
and trading with the BaKongo people. Kongo was a well known state throughout much of the world
by the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The BaKongo, however, had probably long used
minkisi before ethnographers and anthropologists ever recorded them. Minkisi are complex items
that are used to heal and to harm people, and there is no equivalent term for nkisi in any European
language. A seventeenth century Dutch geographer first wrote of the nkisi, and said that,... Show

item used in Kongo culture, I have learned an enormous amount about the Kongo culture and the
BaKongo, and have come to a new level of awareness about material culture.
The goals of this paper have changed throughout the course of my research. At first, I didn t even
know what an nkisi was, let alone did I know where I wanted to go with this paper. After doing
my research though, I have decided against a paper completely focused on original ideas.
Instead, my goal of this paper is to use the things that I learned in our anthropology class, and
apply them to minkisi. By applying the things I have learned in the readings from our class, I
have learned a lot more about minkisi than I could ever gain by just reading a few books. I will
especially focus on the works of Deetz, Vlach, and the authors about folk objects. I will also focus
on what we talked about in class about usable truth when referring to objects associated with slave
resistance.
The first conclusion I have come to during the course of my research, is that I don t know how
anybody could reduce African religion to being anything less than complicated. At first the minkisi

The Importance Of Water Scarcity In Egypt
Air, food, water, they are the keys of people to survive, it is no doubt that people can t survive
without anyone of these, thus, water is one of crucial thing that people need. In recent year,
water sustainability become a popular topic because water scarcity is quite serious around the
world, about 1.2 billion people or nearly 20% of the world s population face physical scarcity,
another 25% of population live in a country which lack of necessary equipment to get water from
river or lake (United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs 2014) пјЊand water
sustainability is to make sure people have clean water to use in future. Egypt face a water problem,
bad location and inefficient water use, but government have some solutions like use water more
efficient and reduce waste. Israel used to be a water scarcity country, but now, this problem has
been solved by new technology.
Egypt is one of most water stressed country in the world. Two reasons which directly leads to
water scarcity in Egypt. One of main reason is location, Egypt is located in Africa, and surrounded
by Israel, Libya, Sudan and Red Sea, in addition, most areas of Egypt are deserts, these deserts
cause hot and dry climate (Wolvetang 2015). Inefficient irrigation also leads to water scarcity in
Egypt. Because almost 80 mm of rainfall per year, and only 6% of land is suitable for agriculture

1932 Social Melodrama I Was Born But Analysis
In Yasijuro Ozu s 1932 social melodrama, I Was Born But..., it s use of mise en scene works
well to describe the characters lives at home, as well as the tone of an economically depressed

the movie wants to emphasize its relatability to the public at the time, it is not very dramatic and

Essay on The Power and Significance of Congress
The Power and Significance of Congress Firstly it is important to look at the power and
significance of congress as a legislative body. This includes the creation of law, and the scrutiny
of the executive. Because the US federal system is ruled by separation of powers , it is important
that the legislative congress acts as a good check and restraint on the executive the president. The
most significant power that congress has is to create and pass legislation. Most of the creation is
down to congressional committees specialist groups of congressman who revise and investigate
laws into their own committee s interests, for example The House Science Committee. Some of the
legislation can... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is also a major constraint on presidential power if there are united houses, because the
president would find it hard to pass law, and counter laws that he didn t want. The House has a
few exclusive powers that the Senate does not. The House is the only one of the two that can
initiate money bills. The president himself nor EXOP can do such a thing. This offers the House
of Representatives a large scope of power in financial issues abroad and domestically.
Impeachment is also another power possessed by the House. If a president or a member of the
federal government has been acting illegally or unconstitutionally the House can impeach formally
accuse them of it. This is then trialed in the Senate, but offers the House a lot of power over the
president, and helps congress with it s scrutiny of the executive. The Senate also has a few
exclusive powers that are strong in the right circumstances. The senate confirms appointments by a
simple majority to most appointments made by the president. These include all the president s
appointments to the federal judiciary and most of the appointments to the executive branch. This
results in the president needing the senate s consent a lot of the time. The second significant
exclusive power is the power to ratify all treaties negotiated by the president,

Eu Economic Law, Freedom of Establishment
Art 49 is the base. In the handout. It talks about nationals of a MS, if you are a national of a non
MS, you can t rely on this provision. This applies to nationals of a MS or companies that are
established in MS. We can t deal with freedom of movement of companies, as that s a highly
complicated area and beyond our scope. There are a couple of logical steps in order to deduce
whether there is a breach by a member state in your particular case. 1.Is the situation really one
where establishment is at issue? 2.Is there a cross border issue involved, you can only rely on the
internal market rules only if you re moving into another MS, there must be some element of
moving or trying to move? This can lead to anomalies for an example... Show more content on

It concerned a lawyer, Mr. Klopp, a German national, a member of the Dusseldorf bar in
Germany, he wanted to set up another office in Paris, in addition to his chambers in Dusseldorf.
The French Bar rejected, saying that you could only have one set of chambers to join the French
Bar and this bar must be in Paris. The Parisian bar argued that it was a consumer protection issue.
If a client goes to an avocet, to protect the service and deal with problems, you need to be present

John Locke s The Tragedy Of The Commons
Common pool resources denotes natural resources used by many individuals in common, such as
fisheries, groundwater basins, and irrigation systems. Such resources have long been subject to
overexploitation and misuse by individuals acting in their own best interests.
The state of our environment and the environmental problems that have evolved are considerably
different today to when John Locke wrote his influential essay Two treatises on Government (1680
1690). Humans are the freest, least genetically constrained species found. According to Locke s
natural right theory, the state of nature is the original condition of human beings in regard to any
common authority. Men were born free and equal: free to do what they wished without being
required ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this Locke is of the opinion that properties do not have much value as a divine ordainment
rather he is of the view that labour adds the deserving value to the property which is regarded as the
principle of the first appropriation. The way we think about environmental concerns or when we
deal with the question of the common use of resources, the phrase The Tragedy of the Common s
almost inevitably props up. Our thinking is heavily influenced by Garrett Hardin s pivotal 1968
essay with the same name The Tragedy of the Commons . In his essay, Hardin described the fate of
a common pasture, unowned and available to all. The tragedy of the commons lies in the
anticipation that a resource will be overused when it is part of a commons. As Hardin explained,
in such a situation it is in each herder s self interest to maximize his use of the commons at the
expense of the community at large. Each herder captures all of the benefit from adding one more
animal to his herd. Yet the costs of overgrazing the pasture are distributed among every user of the
pasture. And when all of the herders respond to these incentives, the pasture is overgrazed hence
the tragedy. The tragedy is that people don t look at the bigger picture; the over use of

Introduction:
With the development of the world, numbers of environmental issues were threatening people s life,
like rising Greenhouse gas emission. Buildings provide a connection between human society and

Skyscraper in Darling Harbour is a plan for Company AIIHigh. Causing a large difference for both

Distance And Adult Learning Essay
I am delighted to be here with you today, as you start the first Conference on Research in
Distance and Adult Learning in Asia (CRIDALA 2000). I congratulate the Open University of
Hong Kong and its Centre for Research in Distance and Adult Learning (CRIDAL) for this
endeavour. I am told that the conference will focus primarily on Asia, but the participants, over
100, have come from all over the world the subject is surely of global importance. Let me
therefore add a word of welcome to the overseas participants. I wish you a pleasant stay in Hong
Kong and fruitful deliberations at the conference.

At this level, I am told that four specific beacons characterise the ideal of open and distance
education an ideal that is of course not always attained when resources are limited. These are:
good learning materials,
individual academic and professional support to each student,
effective administration and logistics, and
teaching rooted in research.
It follows then that these principles call for research in and the use of technology, the modes of
delivery, issues in student learning, and pedagogy in relation to the subject areas. In their turn, these
involve the following issues amongst many others.
The capability for research in open, distance and adult learning needs to be enhanced. But distance
education is no longer an island unto itself, so this research capability has to draw from and
become integrated with the community s overall research capabilities, especially in educational and
social research.
A balance must be sought between basic research (the best media mix for instruction, learner
characteristics and teaching strategies, interactive learning) and applied research (instructional
design, supported individualised learning through multimedia).
Probing into the globalisation of education and its effect on local or cultural contexts, the quality of
instruction through web based instruction.
The issue of quality control in general.

Comparing Kripke s Naming And Necessity
In Naming and Necessity , Philosopher Saul Kripke believes that there are some contingent truths
that can be known a priori, or independent of experience. It is standard to believe that a priori truths
coincide with necessary truths rather than with contingent. I will argue in agreeance with Kripke.
There are cases in which contingent a priori truths exist.
A priori knowledge is knowledge gained independent of experience. It is the knowledge that can be
gained from learning the language, but without actual experience or need to consult the external
world. For example, someone who knows that All bachelors are unmarried men does not need to
experience being unmarried to defend this statement. By having knowledge of the language, one
knows that, by definition, a bachelor is an unmarried man.
By contrast, a posteriori propositions can only be known through experience of the external world.
If I say that It is windy outside , then in order to understand this proposition I must have experience
of the weather.
A necessary truth is a truth that could not be false, where a contingent truth is one that could be
false. If you could alter the universe in any possible way, the necessary truths will not change
compared to the contingent truths. The typical way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Indexicals are utterances whose subject matter depends on features of the context in which it is

you . Similar to Kripke s stick s , these indexicals are also associated with a description. I being
the speaker of the context , here being the place of the context , now being the time of the context ,
and you being the audience of the context . These descriptions do not equate to the words
associated, making the Julius argument above implausible. These are simply references to the

The Death Of A Partner Essay
Disagreement Due To Death of a Partner
The death of a partner is an occurrence that is usually anticipated by people forming a partnership.
Much as it is anticipated, however, when it happens, it may bring about disagreements among the
remaining partners. The nature in which the resulting disagreement is handled determines whether
the remaining partners proceed on with the partnership or dissolve it and forget about it. Some
deaths of partners may not result in much disagreement depending on the situation at hand. For
instance, a partner may die with the partnership s unsettled debts. He may also die shortly after
creating a situation that compromises the financial standing of the partnership to a good extent.
When such an individual dies, there are a lot of conflicting ideas that may arise.
In most partnership agreements, there usually are conditions indicating what should be done in the
case of the death of a partner. These include giving the capital of the deceased individual to a
named estate or buying the shares of the partner from the estate, such that the partnership does not
have to be dissolved. This may be simple to decide on if the partner did not at any point interfere
with the financial position of the business. However, if the partner had indulged in transactions that
compromised the financial position of the Partnership before his death, at the point of his death,
some partners may not agree to give his share to the stated estate. Instead, they may feel that

Thunder/SuperSonics
G Gary Payton: 1990 2003
Gary The Glove Payton was the face of the Seattle SuperSonics franchise from 1990 to his
departure in 2003. The team was a perennial playoff team, playing in the postseason in all but
three of Payton s 13 seasons with the team. In 1996, Payton led the team to the NBA finals where
they lost in six games to the Chicago Bulls.
In 1996 Payton edged himself into NBA history, winning the defensive player of the year award
as a point guard. At 6 4, Payton is the smallest player to win the award. In addition to be a
tenacious defender, Payton was also an underrated offensive player. He lead the SuperSonics in
scoring in his final 10 seasons with the team, averaging over 20 points per game in seven times.

With the departure of Kevin Durant, Westbrook is now the face of the franchise the true leader.

A Report On India s The Garden Where Plastic Bags
On a visit to India a while back I came upon a fenced empty field that was practically buried in
flimsy white throwaway plastic bags, the kind you carry your purchases home in from the store.
The locals joked that this was the garden where plastic bags grew.
But when I returned to India last month, I was pleasantly surprised to find that now when you
shop in New Delhi, no store will give you a plastic bag for your purchases. They re illegal there, as
well as in many other Indian cities and states.
That puts India well ahead of most of the world when it comes to this particular ecological issue.
Most everywhere in the U.S., for instance, the throwaway plastic bag remains the ubiquitous way
people haul their stuff home from the local store. But those bags never biodegrade into anything
that nature can use again.
Worse, the vast majority of such single use plastic items never get recycled, and even degradable
plastics may not degrade all that well. On top of that, product life cycle assessments, which are on
the verge of becoming more commonly available and used in the marketplace, do not include either
litter or biodegradability as factors.
The news on some once promising plastic alternatives is not so encouraging. A review published
last month in Environmental Science and Technology by a group of scientists one at the polymer
science division of the Indian Institute of Technology finds that degradable The news on once

What Is Self Reliance By Ralph Waldo Emerson
Ralph Waldo Emerson s Self Reliance Different philosophers have advanced varying argument
pertaining to the relationship between the individual and society. While many of them have
attempted to establish a connection between the two entities, Emerson, a transcendentalist
philosopher takes a different perspective. In his essay titled Self Reliance, he insists that people
should trust themselves and break the rules that have been established by the society. In order to
achieve this, Emerson suggests that individuals should seek to follow their own instincts and avoid
the dictations that have been imposed by culture or religion. In his discussion, clearly structured
arguments on travel and society are vivid. His arguments revolve around the proposition that
change in the society does not take place in a desirable manner, rather people are ignorant to note
the detriments that come along. Indeed, the ideological arguments on travel and society the... Show

He argues that people should treasure their home place and take necessary measures to improve its
image (Emerson 44). Travelling presents the actual nature of other people s creations and inhibits
the traveler s ability to come up with new designs. Emerson s main argument in travel is that self
reliant people refrain from moving physically to historical sites. Instead, such people allow their
minds to stray to such places and imagine how it could look like. In presenting this argument,
Emerson insists that people should never be contented with the achievements of other people (43).
He notes that such imagination equips the person with wisdom and knowledge to advance counter
arguments about certain uplifted travel destinations. With such wisdom, the person not only proves
to be self reliant, but he also achieves recognition as different person with life changing

Logistics Collaborations
Introduction
Collaborations allow for businesses to focus on what they specialize in, while eliminating excess
work outside of the core function of their operation. Within the readings of Diagnosing Greatness,
Pisano Verganti dispute, the collaborative approach chosen must be right for the organization and
its business circumstances (Poirier, 2008, p. 99). The focus on a collaboration benefiting its
business circumstances, in addition to yielding benefits, while allowing for a competitive market
place are key. Despite the need for competition in a successful marketplace, collaborations yield

A collaboration of this scale allows for the brand to share logistics of this machinery between the
brands, while still allowing for competition in sales of its distinctive vehicles.

Dating back to 2013, the two automotive manufactures began discussing ideas of collaborating on
an automatic transmission (Rosevear, 2016). The two brands began the collaboration in 2016
(Rosevear, 2016) on this project, as it would save millions over the combined sales between the two
companies, rather than front the cost of developing individual parts. Most automotive brands source
this part from a German company ZF Friedrichshafen (Rosevear, 2016), to save cost on producing a
complex piece of mechanics for their automobiles. The logistics required to manufacture as well as
supply this complex part of an automobile pose a massive cost in the industry. Furthermore,
automobiles manufactured at multiple locations across the globe share this similar part,
manufacturing it separately at each location poses many additional unwanted supply chain
processes. By consolidating transmission production between Ford and General Motors, the
logistics operation significantly downsizes for the two brands.

Two long standing rival companies understood the benefits of collaboration. As Intrieri discusses in

  • 2. Language And Academic Development And The Effective... 2.What was the background for the research study? That is, what previous knowledge did the author describe as a foundation for the study in the review of related literature ? The background for the research study provided insight into the theoretical and pedagogical aspect of using native language (L1) with a focus on the aspects that most relate to adult ESL classes. The areas addressed were both the affective aspects of learning related to bilingualism and academic development and the effective classroom practices. Knowing that individuals organize and learn information by thinking and feeling, teachers need to keep in mind that the emotional self is a strong factor in learning. Native language is an important part of culture and creating opportunities for using L1 might be quite beneficial to learning the target language (TL), in this case English. The nature of bilingualism was addressed and as Huerta Macias and Kephart cited Cook (1992), learners cannot simply shut down their knowledge of one language when using the other. Adults whose cognitive development exceeds their linguistic ability in the TL may find an English only class frustrating. Another important element of the background research was the understanding that adults will learn English differently than students in a K 12 setting. For adults, language is best taught through content, as a tool for communicating and learning. Use of L1 in adult ESL classrooms serves multiple purposes, such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Examples Of Suffering In Night By Elie Wiesel For the dead and the living we must bear witness (Elie Wiesel). In the novel Night by Elie Wiesel, it describes the hardships people had to endure throughout World War II, and how suffering brings out the worst in people. No one is immune to corruption brought upon them from suffering. The Jews, including Elie, along with the Nazi officials all seem to suffer both physically and mentally. Put ting these groups together creates a lethal combination of mental instability which shows the innate flaw in human nature. Most notably, the jews suffering in the camps had a very big impact on many of them throughout the war. When one of the inmate mentions: I have more faith in Hitler than in anyone else (Wiesel 81). This signifies that although... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Elie is ordered to go on a march, he and others witness a youth about his similar age being hung for stealing food. I remember that on that evening the soup tasted better than ever (Wiesel 63). This indicates that Elie had shown no emotion towards the event, and in turn was happy that he was able to eat the soup, even if it was at the expense of another individual. Additionally, as Elie s father is dying towards the end of the novel, Elie shows no empathy towards him as he is being beaten by the Nazi SS Official. I heard his voice...yet I did not move (Wiesel xi). Elie later regrets this terrible event however, but this just suggests how he was corrupted at that time after seeing all those people suffer and not do anything about. It then ultimately it happened to his father, and he did not do anything about it. Moreover, Elie is very religious at the beginning of the story, and is eager to learn more about the Jewish religion. However, as the book progresses, he begins to lose faith in his own God. After seeing all these terrible horrors, he exclaims, For God s sake, where is God? (Wiesel 65). This statement clearly validates that as he watches all this abomination take place, he wonders where God ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Attached are pictures of the pay rate and a link to said website. пЃ¶Uniforms пѓ The uniforms of the Security Officers are entirely different from the Security Guards. This only occurs when a patient is being combative, verbally abusive and threatening the medical staff, and/or is a danger to themselves. These restraints can also happen on any floor throughout of the hospital with authorization from a doctor or charge nurse. пЃ¶Patrolling пѓ The Security Guards do not patrol the hospital. They radio into dispatch saying where they are within the hospital and clearing themselves from each floor, or if we just patrolling the whole building. • 5. The Supreme Courts Decision And The Court s Court In the first scenario, there was a motion to suppress the rifle and shells that were seized from the glove compartment and under the passenger seat. However, the Supreme Court established three components that an officer may search in vehicle searches if the search is valid. Conduct a search of the passenger compartment of a car and of the contents therein if it is incident to a lawful arrest. Search the entire car and open the trunk and any packages or luggage found therein that could reasonably contain the items they are looking for. Search a container in a car if there is probable cause to believe that it holds contraband or seizable items, even in the absence of probable cause to search the car. In addition, there are three cases that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Belton argued that a warrantless seizure of evidence in the passenger compartment, after arrested is a violation of his constitutional rights. The court ruled that yes, the police may conduct a warrantless search of the passenger compartment of a vehicle incident to a lawful arrest. The search may include containers found within the passenger compartment. The case extended the places in a vehicle an officer could search. Furth more, the case of United States v. Ross confirmed the court s decision legal in scenario one. Police received a tip from a reliable informant that Ross was selling drugs from his vehicle. Officers stopped the car and began to search the vehicle. During the search they found, a bullet in the front seat of the vehicle, and a pistol in the passenger in compartment. They extended the search to the trunk of the car after Ross was arrested, where they found a closed paper bag of drugs. In this case, the court confirmed that the police have probable cause to justify the warrantless search of a car, they may search the entire car, and open the trunk and any packages or luggage found therein that could reasonably contain the items for which they have probable cause to search. The court s decision made the officers in scenario two search legal as they searched the passenger compartment where the officer opened a box filled with ammunition. • 6. Theatre Personal Statement Essay What got you interested in Theatre? My interest in theatre started when I was living in Spain. My parents started a theatre company with other military and US teachers. From the ages of 4 9, I got to play small roles or work backstage on plays ranging from Shakespeare to Neil Simon. Where did you study and how long did it take? In Undergrad, I majored in theatre and opera. Immediately after graduating I continued my studies in theatre and opera performance in graduate school. The overall time in University was 7 years. After Graduate school, I continued to train as an actor in NYC for three years at Terry Schreiber Studios. How about your time on television, how did it differ from your theatre experience? Having an understanding of Stanislavski s concentration exercises and the magic as if made it much easier to focus acting to fit the lens. I have many favorite memories, but here are two. When I was working on CYRANO DE BERGERAC at the Walnut St. Theatre. The profoundly talented actor, Alan Scarfe was playing Cyrano. Every moment I wasn t onstage, I stayed in the wings to watch his performance; particularly the last scene where CYRANO dies. Oh, the simplicity of delivering heightened language and pure emotion he was able to conjure!! Some of the best training I ve ever had. The second memory was when I was cast in a National Tour of SHLEMIEL THE FIRST. The super star here was the director, David Gordon, whom I had the privilege to work with several times after the tour. David Gordon is one of the best movement based directors I ve ever worked with. • 7. Analysis Of Jia Chien s Influence On The International... Jia Chien is the middle daughter who is ambitious in advancing her career as a corporate airline executive, having little time for her family and desiring to quickly move out of the house. Jia Chien s position shows how women in modern Taiwan occupy jobs in essentially all job markets, yet the fact that she is an executive contrasts even the modern woman gender rolewhere women do not typically own managerial positions (Gold 1114). Additionally, the Taiwanese airline she works for is expanding into new countries by acquiring new airline routes in the international market (Dilley 48) which compares to how Taiwan desired to globalize through markets such as the United States. However the same statement diverges from the notion that western nations are the dominant forces in globalization and instead, the Taiwanese are now the perpetrators of globalization, exerting its own influence on the international market. It is then revealed that Jia Chien originally wanted to pursue the culinary arts, actually having much talent for cooking, but in the past her father Mr. Chu forbade her from becoming a chef and even from being in the kitchen. Mr. Chu s reasoning is that Jia Chien should have a better life with a university education than him, leading to Jia Chien s bitterness to her father and complicating their relationship. Mr. Chu s seemingly oppressive behavior symbolizes Taiwan s traditional familyvalues as he has power over his daughter and dictates what she can or cannot do. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Mexica Empire against Hernan Cortes Essay The Totonacs joined forces with Cortes against the emperor and his allies. Other neighboring towns that resented the deplorable Aztec hegemony stopped paying tribute as a gesture of support for the Spanish. As a response, those in power at TenochtitlГЎn sent forces to Cempoala to punish the defiance but the Spanish with newly acquired allies defeated the advancing army (Castillo). It was here at Cempoala that the Spanish would meet the Tlaxcalans for the very first time, prompting a standoff between the two. Openly opposing the Mexica empire, the Tlaxcalans were a force to be reckoned with since they had twice prevented Aztecdomination (Portilla) and were suspicious of the Spanish at first especially when the conquistadors accepted... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The conquistadors defeated the warriors of the Mexica empire due to a number of reasons that not only pertain to the weapons they possessed. Interestingly enough, all the steel and horses contributed to the physical aspect of war but on a psycho social level, it was the Aztecs varying conception of warfare that led to Spanish victory. Conquistadors were taught to fight to the death and move on to the next one while the Aztecs would focus a large amount of energy to capturing and taking prisoners (Brandt). Whether it was for personal reasons or the desire for human sacrifice, this concept impeded their chances of winning battles. Isolation can be noted as a small factor as well since the Aztecs kept their empire confined to the continent and never branched out to discover new technology. The Spanish on the other hand had a very strong background in exploration with ties to naval and advanced military tactics. These men were cogs in a powerful war machine that was the reason Charles V had so much land and power. With exploration comes new discovery such as new weapons and advancements in warfare. In every way possible, Spanish military dominance consisting of steel, cavalry, and gunpowder was underlying reason the natives never stood a chance. Diagnosis Question 1: The most critical shifts in Dell s contextual factors, including industry dynamics, trends, technology changes and shift of the competitive landscape are following: The industry has changed significantly over the last 20 years. The traditional business model in the PC industry was inside out, supplying machines based on orders from distribution, resell and retail channels, thus following the indirect selling concept. Dell s direct model was at this time a new, challenging concept, taking orders directly from the end consumer, and thereby, eliminating the middleman, costs and time. After a series of confusing initiatives and consequent losses, it was acquired by Acer, leading to the next dynamics shift, which critically affected Dell later on (mid 2000s), but in a much less fortunate way. Acer praised itself with 100% indirect selling, entirely contrasting Dell s business model. Acer established its competitive edge with its portfolio of brands, offering an extensive line of less expensive products. In fact, in 2009, Acer passed Dell to be the world s largest PC provider in unit terms, as its sheer size allowed the company to tailor brands to customer segments and geography, while having the volume to demand discounts from component suppliers and contract manufacturers (p.12). d) Acer: Acer s rise and Dell s consequent decline were largely reliant on the shift of interests of industries and consumers. Firstly, the PC industry shifted more and more towards outsourcing production, and thereby created lower priced products, which were welcomed by customers, as their needs shifted more and more towards cheaper products, which were acquirable in retail stores. Since the market in the US has become fairly saturated, the dynamics of the PC industry shifted increasingly towards cheaper products, as emerging countries such as India or China demand for PC s (and laptops) vastly outnumbers any other market. In addition, younger customers (i.e. school kids) have become a rising market segment as well, as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Telephone Conversation By Soyinka Wole Soyinka s Telephone Conversation is an eloquent exchange of dialogue between a dark West African man and his British landlady that inexorably verges on the question of apartheid. The poet makes use of the most articulate means to air his views, through that of a telephone conversation, where there is instant and natural give and take. It exhibits a one to one correspondence between the two. The interaction between a coloured and a white individual at once assumes universal overtones. At the outset, the poet says that the price seemed reasonable and the location indifferent . Note that as a word, even though the word indifferent denotes being unbiased , it is a word with negative connotations. However, as we come across the Landlady s biased nature; the word indifferent gains positive overtones, as it is better than being impartial. The lady swears that she lived off premises . Nevertheless, the very aspect of his colour poses a problem to her, far from her promise to remain aloof. Nothing remains for the poet, he says, but confession. Other reasons of mistrust are due to the NCTB s sense of losing control due to the transfer of the responsibilities of direct supervision of patients and healthcare workers in administering DOTS to external partners [1], and the mutual lack of experience in intersectoral collaboration [3]. Mistrust can also arise from the neglect of working relationship among significant actors on the ground in implementing partnership. Kielmann et al. (2013) suggested that TB HVs had rather limited flexibility in work schedule as senior officers implemented the very strict system of checks and balances [2]. Communications, interactions, relationships Most of the studies have pinpointed the importance of communications, interactions, and relationships among the NTP, NGOs, PPs and other providers. In Maharashtra, India, for instance, over the years, the city TB centre recognised the need for regular contact with the PPs to ensure their involvement in PPM DOTS. TB HVs were also used to approach existing DOT provider PPs and request other PPs to participate in PPM DOTS or to refer their TB suspects/ patients to the RNTCP [8]. However, despite the TB HVs interacted with PPs on a regular basis, these interactions were inherently unequal and ambivalent. The rich and powerful families of the two boys hired Clarence Darrow as their defense attorney in hopes to save them from receiving the death penalty. His short stories are acknowledged by many readers because of the true meaning of aspirations some people could think they can make out of it. The idea endured well into medieval European times as it was used to depict each commanders specific coat of arms. Later, battle honors were added to the colours, which made them even more significant and were revered even more by members of the regiment. The colours are never destroyed capriciously anymore. When they get too old and worn out to be used or displayed as the uit standard, they are moved to museums until they moulder into dust. However, in modern armies, if the colours are in danger of being captured by the enemy, there are standing orders for them to be destroyed. It is for this reason and the advent of modern weapons, and subsequent changes in tactics, colours are no longer carried into battle. However, they are still used at formal events and ceremonies. The word guidon derives from the Italian guidone meaning guide or marker and/or the Middle French corruption guyd hommes, hence it is the focus for soldiers in battle. The significance of the guidon is that it represents the unit and its commanding officer. When the commander is in, his or her guidon is displayed for everyone to see. When he leaves for the day, the guidon is taken down. It is an honor, although sometimes a dubious one, to be the guidon carrier for a unit, known as a guidon bearer or guide . He or she stands in front of the unit alongside of the commander (or the commander s representative), and is the rallying point for troops to fall into formation when the order is given. In drill and ceremonies the guidon and commander are always in front of the formation. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Courageous and skilled Persian conquerors allowed Persian rule to spread beyond Persian territory, creating one of the largest early empires (Dunn Mitchell, 2014). However, across the Mediterranean Sea was dwelled a more advanced empire with a stronger military, the Greeks (Dunn Mitchell, 2014). These prominent early empires possessed many similarities and held the ultimate goal of building and maintaining an advanced empire and society. Yet, their Southwestern and Afro Eurasian cultures consisted of several different beliefs and ways of life. The 5th and 6th century B.C.E polytheistic Greek traditions tremendously differed from the religion of the Achaemenid Empire, which believed solely in Ahu Mazda, the supreme god (Dunn Mitchell, 2014). I Put A Spell On You Analysis If the stage cannot be richer than the cinema, let it be poor Jerzy Grotowski believed in the supreme power of an actor s performance above all else and that great theatre does not need extravagant sets, costumes, props or gimmicks and that in fact the actor s voice and body skills should be primary spectacle on stage . The 12 dramatic elements are a set of concepts designed to help an actor deliver a believable performance. All 12 elements when used cohesively, is guaranteed to help an actor become the primary spectacle on stage. Focus, space and sound are important elements that were showcased in Que Sera, Sera and I Put A Spell On You . In Que Sera, Sera , sound worked as a means of contrast, authenticity and character development. Within the performance contrast using sound played an important part. In the opening scene, as each character introduced themselves to the audience by checking in for their appointment, characters clearly differentiated from the other, with a loud and over excitable character to a character who barely spoke and when she did, was barely a whisper. The sound and tone of voice used for each character helped develop each character separately and made clear that there was diversity and contrast among the characters. Chief among these is major cost reduction. SSTOs would be fully reusable, being that they are meant to send people to space and bring them back. A fully reusable single stage space plane would have an advantage over a fully reusable rocket booster, similar to what was used on the shuttle, and what is being used as the first stage on SpaceX s Falcon 9. The paper Aeroheating Characteristics for a Two Stage To Orbit Concept During Separation at Mach 6 , investigates the issue. The study found that in the small scale test conducted that there were not much negative effects of heating from friction on one craft to the other. This would appear to be a positive development for the TSTO community as it is possible to get a craft into space by attaching it to another. As is seen in Investigation of Two Stage to Orbit Airbreathing Launch Vehicle Conп¬ Ѓgurations , there are many possible configurations for a TSTO. Our thinking is heavily influenced by Garrett Hardin s pivotal 1968 essay with the same name The Tragedy of the Commons . In his essay, Hardin described the fate of a common pasture, unowned and available to all. The tragedy of the commons lies in the anticipation that a resource will be overused when it is part of a commons. As Hardin explained, in such a situation it is in each herder s self interest to maximize his use of the commons at the expense of the community at large. Each herder captures all of the benefit from adding one more animal to his herd. Yet the costs of overgrazing the pasture are distributed among every user of the pasture. And when all of the herders respond to these incentives, the pasture is overgrazed hence the tragedy. The tragedy is that people don t look at the bigger picture; the over use of ... Comparing Kripke s Naming And Necessity In Naming and Necessity , Philosopher Saul Kripke believes that there are some contingent truths that can be known a priori, or independent of experience. It is standard to believe that a priori truths coincide with necessary truths rather than with contingent. I will argue in agreeance with Kripke. There are cases in which contingent a priori truths exist. A priori knowledge is knowledge gained independent of experience. It is the knowledge that can be gained from learning the language, but without actual experience or need to consult the external world. For example, someone who knows that All bachelors are unmarried men does not need to experience being unmarried to defend this statement. By having knowledge of the language, one knows that, by definition, a bachelor is an unmarried man. By contrast, a posteriori propositions can only be known through experience of the external world. If I say that It is windy outside , then in order to understand this proposition I must have experience of the weather. Much as it is anticipated, however, when it happens, it may bring about disagreements among the remaining partners. The nature in which the resulting disagreement is handled determines whether the remaining partners proceed on with the partnership or dissolve it and forget about it. Some deaths of partners may not result in much disagreement depending on the situation at hand. For instance, a partner may die with the partnership s unsettled debts. He may also die shortly after creating a situation that compromises the financial standing of the partnership to a good extent. When such an individual dies, there are a lot of conflicting ideas that may arise. In most partnership agreements, there usually are conditions indicating what should be done in the case of the death of a partner. These include giving the capital of the deceased individual to a named estate or buying the shares of the partner from the estate, such that the partnership does not have to be dissolved. This may be simple to decide on if the partner did not at any point interfere with the financial position of the business. However, if the partner had indulged in transactions that compromised the financial position of the Partnership before his death, at the point of his death, some partners may not agree to give his share to the stated estate. • 50. Gary Payton Research Paper Thunder/SuperSonics G Gary Payton: 1990 2003 Gary The Glove Payton was the face of the Seattle SuperSonics franchise from 1990 to his departure in 2003. The team was a perennial playoff team, playing in the postseason in all but three of Payton s 13 seasons with the team. In 1996, Payton led the team to the NBA finals where they lost in six games to the Chicago Bulls. In 1996 Payton edged himself into NBA history, winning the defensive player of the year award as a point guard. At 6 4, Payton is the smallest player to win the award. Whether he is leaping through the air for a thunderous finish or contorting his body in a way that the body wasn t meant to contort, Westbrook is a beauty to watch. In his eight seasons, Westbrook is averaging 21.5 points, 7.6 assists, and 5.6 rebounds. He also leads the NBA in triple doubles over the last two seasons, including a stretch in which he averaged a triple double for a span of two weeks in February of 2015. If there were ever another player to average a triple double in a single season, Westbrook could be that guy. With the departure of Kevin Durant, Westbrook is now the face of the franchise the true leader. He thrives in positions like this. He s never been afraid to take the big shot and he has never shied away from criticism he has received. Westbrook has played in five all star games and has been named to five All NBA Teams (1x First Team, 4x Second Team). • 51. A Report On India s The Garden Where Plastic Bags On a visit to India a while back I came upon a fenced empty field that was practically buried in flimsy white throwaway plastic bags, the kind you carry your purchases home in from the store. The locals joked that this was the garden where plastic bags grew. But when I returned to India last month, I was pleasantly surprised to find that now when you shop in New Delhi, no store will give you a plastic bag for your purchases. They re illegal there, as well as in many other Indian cities and states. That puts India well ahead of most of the world when it comes to this particular ecological issue. Most everywhere in the U.S., for instance, the throwaway plastic bag remains the ubiquitous way people haul their stuff home from the local store. But those bags never biodegrade into anything that nature can use again. Worse, the vast majority of such single use plastic items never get recycled, and even degradable plastics may not degrade all that well. On top of that, product life cycle assessments, which are on the verge of becoming more commonly available and used in the marketplace, do not include either litter or biodegradability as factors. The news on some once promising plastic alternatives is not so encouraging. A review published last month in Environmental Science and Technology by a group of scientists one at the polymer science division of the Indian Institute of Technology finds that degradable The news on once promising plastic alternatives is not so ... • 52. What Is Self Reliance By Ralph Waldo Emerson Ralph Waldo Emerson s Self Reliance Different philosophers have advanced varying argument pertaining to the relationship between the individual and society. While many of them have attempted to establish a connection between the two entities, Emerson, a transcendentalist philosopher takes a different perspective. In his essay titled Self Reliance, he insists that people should trust themselves and break the rules that have been established by the society. In order to achieve this, Emerson suggests that individuals should seek to follow their own instincts and avoid the dictations that have been imposed by culture or religion. In his discussion, clearly structured arguments on travel and society are vivid. His arguments revolve around the proposition that change in the society does not take place in a desirable manner, rather people are ignorant to note the detriments that come along. Indeed, the ideological arguments on travel and society the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He argues that people should treasure their home place and take necessary measures to improve its image (Emerson 44). Travelling presents the actual nature of other people s creations and inhibits the traveler s ability to come up with new designs. Emerson s main argument in travel is that self reliant people refrain from moving physically to historical sites. Instead, such people allow their minds to stray to such places and imagine how it could look like. In presenting this argument, Emerson insists that people should never be contented with the achievements of other people (43). He notes that such imagination equips the person with wisdom and knowledge to advance counter arguments about certain uplifted travel destinations. With such wisdom, the person not only proves to be self reliant, but he also achieves recognition as different person with life changing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A collaboration of this scale allows for the brand to share logistics of this machinery between the brands, while still allowing for competition in sales of its distinctive vehicles. Results Dating back to 2013, the two automotive manufactures began discussing ideas of collaborating on an automatic transmission (Rosevear, 2016). The two brands began the collaboration in 2016 (Rosevear, 2016) on this project, as it would save millions over the combined sales between the two companies, rather than front the cost of developing individual parts. Most automotive brands source this part from a German company ZF Friedrichshafen (Rosevear, 2016), to save cost on producing a complex piece of mechanics for their automobiles. The logistics required to manufacture as well as supply this complex part of an automobile pose a massive cost in the industry. Furthermore, automobiles manufactured at multiple locations across the globe share this similar part, manufacturing it separately at each location poses many additional unwanted supply chain processes. By consolidating transmission production between Ford and General Motors, the logistics operation significantly downsizes for the two brands.
