The War of 1812 was a conflict between the United States and Great Britain. While the US failed to achieve its goals of ending British interference with American trade, the war confirmed American independence and secured new respect from European powers. Two key American generals emerged during the war: General William Henry Harrison defeated the British forces at the Battle of the Thames in 1813, and General Andrew Jackson defended New Orleans in 1815, even after the war had ended with the Treaty of Ghent.
