Design Situation
With the growing global problem of greenhouse gas emissions causing global warming the issue of sustainable
agriculture to maintain our food supply for the future has become an important issue. A food mile refers to the
number of miles each food item has travelled and the emissions expended to deliver it on to our table.
Design Brief:
Students will design, produce, package and promote a restaurant quality food product with the least amount of
food miles for a Technology food fair. Promotional material will be required to be presented using a Point of Sales
display (POS), environmentally sustainable packaging, poster and presentation.
TASK DESCRIPTION
You will be working in pairs
Food Product and Promotional Materials
1. Design and produce ONE food product which is of a restaurant quality:
o The food product can be an entrée, main or dessert
2. Design and produce packaging which is environmentally friendly for your food product which has eye
appeal and suits the other pieces of promotional material.
3. Design and produce a Point of Sales (POS) display for the food product which is environmentally friendly
and is appropriate for food products and other promotional materials.
4. Design and produce a poster suitable for the promotion of your food products whichshows creativity and
eye appeal (A4).(this must be produced using software of your choice)
5. Design and createONE multimedia presentation (from the list below) showing how your product is
sustainable.
Promotional Podcast (30 to 60 second) produced using Audacity with voice and music. Podcasts
must be converted to MP3 format and uploaded to Edmodo.
Promotional Advertisement (video must be 30 seconds to 1 ½ minutes long) using your choice of
video software.Videos must be uploaded to Edmodo or video sharing website
Evaluation
6. Provide a detailed design folio with all headings covered and uploaded to the Edmodo assignment link
(see Technology Food Fair Assessment Help Bookletfor more details).
7. Evaluate your project by completing ongoing self and peer evaluation using your blog page.
On the day of the Technology Food Fair:
You will set up your poster, POS display, food products already packaged, setup electronic presentations
on provided laptops
Your multimedia presentation must be appropriate for your food product and
other promotional material.
You are required to share your ideas, post comments on fellow blogs and
respond to questions posted on your Edmodo class page weekly.

A food mile refers to the number of miles each food item has travelled and the emissions expended to deliver it on to our table. Design Brief: Students will design, produce, package and promote a restaurant quality food product with the least amount of food miles for a Technology food fair. Promotional material will be required to be presented using a Point of Sales display (POS), environmentally sustainable packaging, poster and presentation.
