Google was founded in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin. They developed a new search algorithm that ranked websites based on how many other sites linked to them rather than keyword density. Google makes most of its money through advertising, with over $6 billion of its $6.2 billion in revenue in 2005 coming from ads.
