Nation on high alert as 26/11 anniversary nears
On the Games front, the Commonwealth Games 2010 is generating quite a buzz
around security. India is reaching out to countries such as the United Kingdom and
Australia to share their experiences for providing foolproof security to the athletes.
Security has been a concern following the terrorist attacks in Mumbai last year.
Incidentally, with the first anniversary of the 26/11 terrorist strike in Mumbai fast
approaching, there is a heightened alert across India by the security agencies to
prevent any major terrorist strike coinciding with the anniversary.
"The Intelligence Bureau has received some inputs from state governments that
terrorists were trying to infiltrate through the Indian west coast and target vital
installations in the country," a home ministry official said.
The alert comes in the wake of American national David Coleman Headley's arrest
in Chicago on charges of plotting an attack in India at the behest of terror outfit
Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), the official said. It is believed during his stay in India between
2006 and 2009 , might have done a reccee of some vital installations in half a dozen
cities to carry out attacks

Private security guards in Uttar Pradesh to help fight terror
Lucknow, (IANS) Private security guards in Uttar Pradesh may soon be starting looking more
professional and confident, as the state Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) is all set to train them to
combat terror strikes.
'The move aims to engage private security agencies in our fight against terrorism,' a senior
official with the Uttar Pradesh ATS told IANS.
Guards foil attempt to loot ATM in Gujarat town
Ahmedabad, (IANS) Two private security guards foiled an attempt by three men to snatch
away two bags of currency notes from bank officials outside an ATM in Gandhidham town of
Kutch district, police said.
The robbers had positioned themselves near the ATM at the IFFCO gate early in the morning
to wait for the bank officials to arrive for putting cash in the machine, a police official said on
telephone from Gandhidham, 300 km from Ahmedabad.
The officials were taken by surprise when the three robbers tried to snatch the bags from
them while also firing at the guards. One of the security guards who narrowly escaped being
shot returned fire and seriously injured one of the robbers.
