3. Hello
I hope you learn a lot in my
presen tation on Desmon d Tutu, just as
much as I learned about him. Desmon d
tired to put an end to aparth eid, and
your going to learn how and why!
4. Early childhood
Demond Mpilo Tutu was born October 7, 1931 in
Klerksdorp, South Africa
His father worked at an Elementary School
principal, and his mom worked cooking and
cleaning for the blind
Afrikaners then denied the right to vote and
forced to live in only specific areas
5. His family moved to the capital city of
Johannesburg when he was t welve years old
Desmond had tuberculosis and nearly died
( Tuberculosis is a bacterial infection, that
involves the lungs and could spread to many
other organs
He went to the doctor and was inspired to
become a doctor
6. Tutu attended Johannesburg Bantu High
School and graduated in 1950
He got accepted to Medical School,
although his family couldn't afford it
7. Instead he got accepted to Pretoria Bantu
Normal College and graduated with his
teachers certificate in 1953
He continued to receive his bachelors
degree at University of South Africa in
1954
Desmond returned to Johannesburg Bantu
High School to teach history and English
9. Later years
When Desmond got older, white people
and Afrikaners fought
Whites would take control of Afrikaners
Afrikaners wanted the rights that
whites had
10. Desmond and Nelson
A man named Nelson Mandela and
Desmond Tutu fought against apartheid
Nelson Mandela fought from jail and
Desmond Tutu fought out in public and
spoke around the world against apartheid
Apartheid ended in 1994
11. Why he is my hero
I chose this hero because I thought that
Desmond Mpilo Tutu was a leader
He stood up for what he believed in, and
was inspiring
Desmond tried as hard as possible to stop
apartheid and was successful
12. I hope you learned a lot about Desmond
Mpilo Tutu, hopefully as much as I
learned! Thank you for watching
