    Bringing Movement Outdoors
Outdoor Play
• Extension of the indoors: opportunities for
  physical, social, emotional, creative and
  cognitive development
• Teacher as play leader
• Static playgrounds
• Divergent play experiences: adapt
  equipment and materials to their own
  needs
Loose Parts
• Items that can be carried and used in
  many different areas
• Blocks, rocks, spools, acorns, buckets,
  tarps, shovels, hoops, beanbags, water,
  trucks, toy animals, tents, sticks, paper,
  paintbrushes, chalk, spray bottles, the
  possibilities are endless
Playground Space
• Paved areas, grassy areas for
  manipulative skills
• Open areas for movement: large group
  activities and games
Climbing Structures
• Gross motor skills
• Imagery: pretend play

Balance Beams
•   Edge of sandbox
