• This conference was organised by volunteers working under the
Herefordshire 20/20 banner
• Herefordshire 20/20 seeks to secure social and economic benefits
for the citizens of Herefordshire; it is a not-for-profit company
limited by guarantee
• This event has not received any public or private funding
• We are grateful to Herefordshire Council, Herefordshire Business
Board and Visit Herefordshire for their input to the content of this
conference

3. A Vision for the County
To take advantage of the freedoms and responsibilities
provided by the new Localism Act, a new frame work is
needed for the county within which all can operate.
This half-day conference launches a nine month
programme to define what living, working or visiting
Herefordshire could be like in 2020. Delegates will seek
to identify some of the blockages and restraints that
need to be removed to enable a vision to be realised.

• Average wages <£20k £6k below England average
• Shortage of well paid jobs
• House prices 8 x average earnings – England = 6x
• Traffic congestion
• Inadequate broadband and public transport
• Lack of inward investment
• Underfunding of rural areas
• Spending constraints on public purse
• 70 percent retail spend is outside county
