1. Music Video Treatment
Lost in a Maze ­ Ruthless
Concept: Showing the corrupt nature of society and our ‘Lost’ generation by using children
as the main actors. The main child actor, a young black male , will be the child parallel of
‘Ruthless’ , representing the artists fears about society. There will be a mixture of
conceptual, and narrative shots. The conceptual shots will include the young boy
continuously running up and down a flight of stairs, which will re­enact the ‘maze’. The
narrative shots will have the main narrative which consists of the main protagonists and his
story, and a sub­narrative presenting the struggle of a little girl. There will be no
performance shots of the actual artist ‘Ruthless’ in this music video, in order to create a
subverted depiction of our ‘Lost’ society.
Characters/Actors
Young Black Male (aged 8­11)
Will be playing the main character and representative of the actual artist.
Young Female (Any race, aged 5­10)
Will be playing a little girl with a baby in the sub­plot

2. Baby: (Any gender, correspondent to the race of the little girl, aged 4­11 months)
Will be playing the little girl’s ‘baby’ (in a hypothetical context)
Extras: 2 Young Black Males (same age as main character)
Will be playing the main characters friends, who beat him up and take his money.
Storyline (main):
1. Boy is ‘dealing’ football cards to his friends
2. We see shots of where the young boy keeps his money; his soft plush teddy bear
(MS of teddy/CU of teddy)
3. The boys meet up at night and exchange cards. (CU shots of cards, and large
amount of money)
4. Other boys beat main character up and take his money. (variety of CU, MS and LS
Sub­Storyline: (very simplistic with limited ‘plot­points’):
1. A little girl is looking after a young baby
2. We see shots of the little girl, holding, rocking, feeding and changing the baby
These two storylines will be interchanged throughout the video.
Conceptual Shots:
Main character running up and down a fleet of stairs. There will be signs reading ‘Level
One, Level Two, Level Three...’ etc., as the character runs up.

3. Shot Types:
The main shot times will be LS (Long Shots) and MS (Mid­Shot), however CU (Close Up)
and ECU (Extreme Close Up) will be used.
Performance shots of main characters = CU/ECU
Conceptual Shots:
Mainly LS of main characters running through this ‘maze’ of stairs.
Location:
There will be 3 main locations for the video. One for the main narrative, and one for the
conceptual shots. Both will be indoor locations.
1) Interior House: Bedroom Scene for little girl
2) Exterior Garden: Shot at night for main character’s scene when ‘dealing’ with his friends
3) Interior Car park: A public car park for conceptual scenes, with stairs, signs and arrows.
