2015 US NAVY CVN 76 - FRIENDS AND FAMILY DAY
USS RONALD REAGAN ‘Peace Through Strength’
The most lethal fighting warship in the fleet today, hosted their annual ‘Friends and Family Day’ on
Thursday July 21 in San Diego, California. The USS Ronald Reagan is the 9th of ten Nimitz Class aircraft
carriers. The ship’s displacement of 97,000 tons is held within its 1,092 feet of length, making it as long
as the Empire State Building. The life expectancy is 50 year of service to our nation under the current
leadership of Christopher Bolt, CO.
The ships’ company is primarily 3-3,500 personnel, embarking with the Carrier Air Wing the total number
of Sailors goes up to 5,000 or more. 2 nuclear reactors are used to power everything onboard by
producing steam that generates their electricity. The ship will not have to refuel for 20 years, generating
400,000 horsepower traveling up to 30 plus knots.
Bruce Denham owner of the San Diego Bay Adventures has a rental fleet of Personal Watercraft. They
have a client base enjoyed by off duty Navy personnel. They provide tours in the San Diego harbor. Over
the years he has built a relationship of goodwill with the Navy and invited Shawn Alladio of K38 to
participate. Shawn is also the Phoenix Patriot Foundation Jet Ski Program manager.
His friend Scott Wojdak had volunteered a few days earlier to support the Phoenix Patriot Foundation Jet
Ski Program Veterans at the 2015 LB2CAT event. Scott asked Bruce if we could participate and we
readied our Kawasaki Jet Skis one more time!
Bruce had asked for an American flag to be flown astern. He has his teams Personal Watercraft readied
with the red white and blue and special fittings. With our Never Quit Challenge events we’ve always
carried flags, so we rigged our 4 Jet Skis accordingly and linked up with his son Josh who is a lifeguard
and the flotilla lead.
We invited our Ambassador Johnny Walker to be our guest of honor, he gladly came on board honoring
our small group once again for another adventure.
The San Diego Bay Adventures members mobilized under the towering shadow of the USS Midway.
Moored along the San Diego waterfront we awaited our cue. Josh gave the signal and we lined up in
single file formation. Their flags flown astern proudly waved.
As the USS Ronald Regan left its dock with tugboats bringing it into the channel, the friends and family
aboard heading to the portside for the view of our small craft. On cue Josh pulled the Personal Water
Craft group into an echelon formation lining up alongside the USS Ronal Regan.

From the smallest power craft to the World’s mightiest we made headway in the San Diego harbor
channel pulling up the rear of the group. Bruce was manning the public address system on board the
ship and issued forth the backgrounds of everyone on board. You could hear his voice booming across
the carrier top to the water below, with thousands of Navy friends and family cheering from above.
Johnny Walker was introduced and the Phoenix Patriot Foundation director Mr. Darrin Isham, a career
Navy SEAL and American hero (ret).
A proud moment for all, as the ship entered the open Pacific waters and headed out on their day cruise,
we headed back to the launch area honored to be a part of one of America’s greatest ships in the annals
of serving our nation. We traded in our American flags for fishing poles and heading back out to sea. Far
in the distance the USS Ronald Regan steamed away and disappeared on the horizon. Later in the day
he reappeared and followed us astern back to port. We watched the huge ship head back to his home
berth. It was a fine day. We operated our namesake Kawasaki Jet Skis.
Each Phoenix Patriot Jet Ski is named in honor of an American Hero.
