Question No. 1:
Do you think Sutton is wrong and that the contrasting fortunes, and
personalities, of Nardelli, McNerney, and Immelt are coincidental? Why or why
not?

For me, Robert Sutton wasn‟t wrong in his idea, because in reality it really has something to do
with a person‟s success rate. Nardelli‟s, McNerney‟s, and Immelt‟s fortunes and personalities
are not coincidental.
 Like in McNerney and Immelt‟s situation who are more approachable and
understanding to their employees. They acknowledge their employees opinion to
improve the company‟s strategies and followed the „No A-hole Rule‟.
 Nardelli has the tendency of having a bad temper and notorious management.
Employees aren‟t willing enough to take orders from him. That‟s why the
productivity of the company tends to decrease.
Question No. 2:
Do you think the importance of being "nice" varies by industry or type of job?
How so?

Yes, the importance of being “nice” varies by industry and type of job. In various industries and
jobs the CEO should act in different ways.

                  In Industries: In Jobs:
 Interaction with people is less required  Interaction with people is greatly needed
 Less needed to be „nice‟  High requirement of nice behavior
 Objective of CEO must be incremental  Objective of CEO is to motivate others and
level of output bring success with innovative ideas
 CEO want the physical labor of the  CEO should act in a nice and pleasant
workers approach
 CEO has to behave in a strict way  Need to bring out both the physical and
sometimes intellectual output
Question No. 3:
How comfortable would you be working in a culture like that of Success
Factors, where a certain level of "niceness" is part of the job description?

I will not feel comfortable by working in a culture like that of SuccessFactors where a certain
level of „niceness‟ is a part of the job description.
Because there may be an uncomfortable workplace for employees. Sometimes the employees
under supervision of CEO act aggressively but the CEO can not take any strict actions because
of following certain conditions.
Question No. 4:
Do you think being "nice" is the same as the Big Five trait of agreeableness? If
so, do you think companies should screen out those who score low on
agreeableness?

Yes, I think it is sort of similar.
According to Big Five Trait, people who are highly agreeable are cooperative, warm, ands
trusting as the quality of „niceness.‟
The companies can screen out those who score low on agreeableness because they are
cold, disagreeable and antagonistic. But it also depends on situations, because some people
who scored high on agreeableness may not be as productive as company thought they‟d be in
the end, because they‟re focus would be on pleasing other people and not be more creative in
helping the company to progress.
Question No. 5:
Earlier we discussed the fact that entrepreneurs score significantly lower than
managers on agreeableness. How would you reconcile this finding with Sutton's
point?

Entrepreneurs scored low in these tests because:

                Entrepreneur: Manager:
 They are soloist mainly  They work as a team
 Interact with less people  Interaction with people is must
 Less need to please their co-workers  Have to manage and satisfy their
 Focus more on achieving the goals they coworkers
want  Focus more on achieving better work
                                                   performance

Question No. 1:
What factors do you think have contributed to Rodriguez's success? Was he
merely "in the right place at the right time," or are there characteristics about
him that contribute to his success?

The factors that contributed to Rodriguez's success are:

 Optimistic individualism  Truest sense and ability to stick to things
 Proactive personality  Innovative ideas
 Savvy entrepreneur with ambitious mind  Assertive to his own decisions
 Extremely motivated individuality  Experience of working in jewelry store

All these factors contributed to achieve Rodriguez's success, he was not only “in the right place
at the right time.”
Question No. 2:
How do you believe Rodriguez would score on the Big Five Dimensions of
personality (extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional
stability, openness to experience)? Which ones would he score high on? Which
ones might he score low on?

I believe Rodriguez has a diamond personality who would score on the Big Five Dimensions of
personality.
 Rodriguez scores low on agreeableness, as he is an entrepreneur.
 He might score highest on conscientiousness, as he does things with close
concentration, has a sense consistent with reality and strict to things he wants to do.
Question No. 3:
Do you believe that Rodriguez is high or low on core self-evaluation? On what
information did you base your decision?

I believe that Rodriguez is high on core self-evaluation. Because:
 Rodriguez is effective, capable and in control of his environment. He was highly confident
to achieve his goal.
 When he was in various troubles and dilemmas he was strict to his decisions.
 At the time of working at a jeweler, he knew that he was just going to get a salary from there
and would never become anything. He assessed himself and then opened his own jewelry
shop, as he has the potentiality to become successful.
Question No. 4:
What information about Rodriguez suggests that he has a proactive
personality?

Rodriguez has a proactive personality, because:

 Identified opportunities of internet business that sells diamonds.
 Has inventiveness to start his own business.
 Takes action and works hard to achieve his dream.
 Preserve until being a successful entrepreneur.

  • 5. Question No. 1: Do you think Sutton is wrong and that the contrasting fortunes, and personalities, of Nardelli, McNerney, and Immelt are coincidental? Why or why not? For me, Robert Sutton wasn‟t wrong in his idea, because in reality it really has something to do with a person‟s success rate. Nardelli‟s, McNerney‟s, and Immelt‟s fortunes and personalities are not coincidental.  Like in McNerney and Immelt‟s situation who are more approachable and understanding to their employees. They acknowledge their employees opinion to improve the company‟s strategies and followed the „No A-hole Rule‟.  Nardelli has the tendency of having a bad temper and notorious management. Employees aren‟t willing enough to take orders from him. That‟s why the productivity of the company tends to decrease.
  • 6. Question No. 2: Do you think the importance of being "nice" varies by industry or type of job? How so? Yes, the importance of being “nice” varies by industry and type of job. In various industries and jobs the CEO should act in different ways. In Industries: In Jobs:  Interaction with people is less required  Interaction with people is greatly needed  Less needed to be „nice‟  High requirement of nice behavior  Objective of CEO must be incremental  Objective of CEO is to motivate others and level of output bring success with innovative ideas  CEO want the physical labor of the  CEO should act in a nice and pleasant workers approach  CEO has to behave in a strict way  Need to bring out both the physical and sometimes intellectual output
  • 7. Question No. 3: How comfortable would you be working in a culture like that of Success Factors, where a certain level of "niceness" is part of the job description? I will not feel comfortable by working in a culture like that of SuccessFactors where a certain level of „niceness‟ is a part of the job description. Because there may be an uncomfortable workplace for employees. Sometimes the employees under supervision of CEO act aggressively but the CEO can not take any strict actions because of following certain conditions.
  • 8. Question No. 4: Do you think being "nice" is the same as the Big Five trait of agreeableness? If so, do you think companies should screen out those who score low on agreeableness? Yes, I think it is sort of similar. According to Big Five Trait, people who are highly agreeable are cooperative, warm, ands trusting as the quality of „niceness.‟ The companies can screen out those who score low on agreeableness because they are cold, disagreeable and antagonistic. But it also depends on situations, because some people who scored high on agreeableness may not be as productive as company thought they‟d be in the end, because they‟re focus would be on pleasing other people and not be more creative in helping the company to progress.
  • 9. Question No. 5: Earlier we discussed the fact that entrepreneurs score significantly lower than managers on agreeableness. How would you reconcile this finding with Sutton's point? Entrepreneurs scored low in these tests because: Entrepreneur: Manager:  They are soloist mainly  They work as a team  Interact with less people  Interaction with people is must  Less need to please their co-workers  Have to manage and satisfy their  Focus more on achieving the goals they coworkers want  Focus more on achieving better work performance

  • 12. Question No. 1: What factors do you think have contributed to Rodriguez's success? Was he merely "in the right place at the right time," or are there characteristics about him that contribute to his success? The factors that contributed to Rodriguez's success are:  Optimistic individualism  Truest sense and ability to stick to things  Proactive personality  Innovative ideas  Savvy entrepreneur with ambitious mind  Assertive to his own decisions  Extremely motivated individuality  Experience of working in jewelry store All these factors contributed to achieve Rodriguez's success, he was not only “in the right place at the right time.”
  • 13. Question No. 2: How do you believe Rodriguez would score on the Big Five Dimensions of personality (extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, openness to experience)? Which ones would he score high on? Which ones might he score low on? I believe Rodriguez has a diamond personality who would score on the Big Five Dimensions of personality.  Rodriguez scores low on agreeableness, as he is an entrepreneur.  He might score highest on conscientiousness, as he does things with close concentration, has a sense consistent with reality and strict to things he wants to do.
  • 14. Question No. 3: Do you believe that Rodriguez is high or low on core self-evaluation? On what information did you base your decision? I believe that Rodriguez is high on core self-evaluation. Because:  Rodriguez is effective, capable and in control of his environment. He was highly confident to achieve his goal.  When he was in various troubles and dilemmas he was strict to his decisions.  At the time of working at a jeweler, he knew that he was just going to get a salary from there and would never become anything. He assessed himself and then opened his own jewelry shop, as he has the potentiality to become successful.
  • 15. Question No. 4: What information about Rodriguez suggests that he has a proactive personality? Rodriguez has a proactive personality, because:  Identified opportunities of internet business that sells diamonds.  Has inventiveness to start his own business.  Takes action and works hard to achieve his dream.  Preserve until being a successful entrepreneur.
