Take your classroom outside of the school building walls! This workshop will lead you to online resources and collaboration tools for participation in multiple communities of global educators. Using Web 2.0 and global collaboration practices, connect your students to classrooms from around the world in cultural exchange and ambassadorship. Organizations such as Taking it Global, Journey North, Flat Classrooms, and many others offer exciting opportunities for your students to use 21st C Skills to learn international cooperation and collaboration as well as environmental & social/cultural appreciation. Use school-safe email such as ePal and volunteers from Peacecorps to connect with international pals or join on-going international projects. You may even be ready to learn to create your own international projects and find resources to help you along the way.

Students participate in monitoring the forests of Borneo.
Each student is assigned a parcel of land, and through the use of satellite
imagery, identify and mark changes in land patterns over a period of
time, reporting disturbances, collaborating with neighbors who hold the
land around their hexagon to explore whether or not the disturbance is
related to illegal activity. These changes are shared with relevant local
authorities, who will then investigate any deforestation in that area.
Students share on the Earthwatchers WIKI.

Through the certification process itself, educators at your school will challenge themselves
to develop and showcase teaching practices that align to the values of global
citizenship, student voice, and environmental stewardship, and incorporate the
approaches of immersive ICT use and project-based learning. Your school will receive a
personalized online portfolio page, showcasing highlights of your practices for others to
learn from, share, and comment on. You will also receive a confidential summary of
responses from educators and students to their respective surveys, providing insights into
areas of excellence and improvement.
