Today’s meeting at Tick Tock… We had a decent turn out,
including two new members. Nancy Reeser, who is a dual member
(Breakfast Club) and Leslie Green. Welcome to the Downtown Club
Nancy and Leslie! New club shirts were picked out for the coming year.
Royal Blue was the chosen color with or with out pocket and a screen print
of the club logo. They are $15 each and could be ready by October.
There was some discussion about selling more raffle tickets at First Friday,
prior to the convention. So far we have sold around 200 tickets. Everyone
was reminded of the Zone 9 Installation Banquet on September 23rd.
Social hour begins at 6:30 pm and dinner at 7:00 pm. Incoming Governor
Daniel Rich will be there. Lee suggested revising the timing of our fund
raisers. Possibly using a schedule such as raffle tickets in the spring, Trop
concession in the summer and First Friday in the fall. He also brought us
up to date on how much we have raised working the Trop concession. We
are up to $675 so far. Not too shabby!

confusion when she would answer

3. Convention…
North Florida District 2010 Convention
Even though I was only able to attend the afternoon
general session on Saturday and the banquet I do
have some things to report about the convention.
First, I would like to say thank you to Governor Ric and Betty
Jo for doing an outstanding job. It takes a lot of time, energy and man
power to put together a conference/convention four times a year. It’s no
easy task. Thank you for your hard work and dedication from the
Downtown Optimist Club!
Our guest speaker for the afternoon was Cara Smith from Camp Boggy
Creek in Eutis, FL. Camp Boggy Creek, Florida’s only Hole in the Wall
Camp, is a year-round camp for children ages 7 through 16 who have
chronic or life threatening illnesses. The camp is centered on 232 acres
and is comprised of 44 cracker-style buildings, including a medical
center, theater, swim center, dining hall, recreation center, equestrian
center and camper cabins. Camp Boggy Creek is constructed to the
standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and is air-conditioned
and heated. The camp is accredited by the highly respected American
Camp Association.
There mission is to enrich the lives of children who have chronic or life
threatening illnesses by creating camping experiences that are
memorable, exciting, fun, empowering, physically safe and medically
sound.

The Optimist Creed
Promise Yourself -
To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.
To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for the best and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.
To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the
presence of trouble.
