Denver's transportation history began in 1879 when the first bicycles were sold and many continued to use bicycles recreationally. The Regional Transportation District now operates about 1,000 buses that make 10,000 stops daily around Denver. Railroads first arrived in Denver in 1870 and the train station is called Union Station. Denver opened its first airport, Stapleton, in 1929.
