In the beginning, we conducted a study where we gave 9 students the same instructions and asked them to follow them.  What we found was that there were two types of students…

Feedback: Journalism students 2011 “I was shocked at how easy it was to use and to navigate (once I got used to it of course!) and that it was so easy to put together an online package.” “Because myPortfolio can be accessed on any computer with an internet connection it enabled me to complete my work in the comfort of my own home, without the added stress of having to venture into the uni library and attempt to find a computer. ” “Myportfolio is ideal for people completing media based courses like myself. Its simple layout makes it user friendly and unlike many computer programs it doesn’t require hours of training in order to grasp the basics.”

  7. Departments can also be integrated – students need guidance from:Academics – through career-specific employability skills LTU – through support with technologyCareers – advice on CV’s, generic skills and content

Academic staff – starting to look at ways of using Mahara as a tool to support students and their ‘storing’ of ideas and new experiences gained through learningEarly adopters have paved the way for the next wave of staff to be creative with assessment briefs to include the ePortfolio to present both career specific and generic skills.
  9. The learning technology unit have been supporting academic staff, students and careers staff with the use of Mahara in many ways.If careers service want to add/edit/amend anything in Mahara they just send the LTU some text and we can ensure it goes in!
  10. Careers staff have all been trained in using Mahara and are getting involved in many areas of its promotion
