             RWANDA HAS ALREADY MET MDG FOR GENDER EQUALITY

             SINCE THE 1994 GENOCIDE, WHICH EFFECTED WOMEN, PERHAPS MORE
             THAN ANYONE ELSERWANDA HAS MADE IT A POINT TO BE PROGRESSIVE IN
             THEIR WOMEN’S RIGHTS.

  • 1. RWANDA RWANDA POPULATION APPROX. 9MILLION THE MOST DENSELY POPULATED AFRICAN COUNTRY AT 3.6% ANNUALLY RWANDA HAS THE FASTEST GROWTH RATE OF ANY AFRICAN COUNTRY. AT THIS RATE IT WILL DOUBLE IN SIZE IN 20 YEARS 17 RWANDA IS THE 17TH POOREST COUNTRY OUT OF ALL 175 158
  • 2. POVERTY & HUNGER THE 2007 MDG REPORT SAYS GOALS FOR ERADICATION OF EXTREME HUNGER WILL LIKELY BE MET BY 2015. HOWEVER GOALS FOR ERADICATION OF EXTREME POVERTY WILL LIKELY NOT BE MET.   • 3. UNIVERSAL PRIMARY EDUCATION THE RWANDAN GOVERNMENT IS STRONGLY DEDICATED TO UNIVERSAL PRIMARY SCHOOL EDUCATION. THEIR MINISTRY OF EDUCATION. HAS A PARTICULAR FOCUS ON GENDER EQUALITY, AIDS AWARENESS, AND A L APTOP PROGRAM; ALL CRUCIAL TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE NATION AND TO MEETING MDG GOALS THE UN PREDICTS THAT BY 2015 RWANDA WILL MEET ITS MDG GOAL FOR PRIMARY EDUCATION 85% OF MALES ARE CURRENTLY 88% OF ENROLLED FEMALES IN PRIMARY ARE SCHOOLS CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN 1990 67% OF CHILDREN WERE ENROLLED IN 2005 IN PRIMARY 92%OF SCHOOLS CHILDREN WERE ENROLLED IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS
  • 4. PROMOTE GENDER EQUALITY AS OF THIS MONTH (9/08) RWANDA IS THE FIRST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD TO HAVE A DEMOCRATIC BODY IN WHICH WOMEN OUT NUMBER MEN. RWANDA HAS ALREADY MET MDG FOR GENDER EQUALITY SINCE THE 1994 GENOCIDE, WHICH EFFECTED WOMEN, PERHAPS MORE THAN ANYONE ELSERWANDA HAS MADE IT A POINT TO BE PROGRESSIVE IN THEIR WOMEN’S RIGHTS. THE LITERACY GAP IS CURRENTLY 0.1% RWANDAN PARLIAMENT AS OF 9/08 44F 36M
  • 5. REDUCE CHILD MORTALITY UNICEF AMOUNG OTHER ORGANIZATIONS ARE WORKING SPECIFICALLY TO PREVENT CHILD AND MATERNAL MORTAL- ITY THROUGH EDUCATION, PERSCRIPTION AND COUNSEL- ING. THEY ALSO SUPPLIMENT PRIMARY SCHOOLS. ONCE AGAIN THE RWANDAN GENOCIDE OF 1994 MADE A HUGE IMPACT ON THE DEVELOPEMENT OF THE COUNTRY. DESPITE THIS THE UN FEELS THAT RWANDA WILL MEET THE MDG FOR CHILD MORTALITY. ENSURE ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY EXPORTS ARE COFFEE , TEA, HIDES AND TIN ORE RESOURCES ARE HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER, TIN, GOLD, TUNGSTEN, AND ARABLE LAND MAIN CROPS ARE COFFEE AND TEA MAIN ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS ARE DEFORESTATION, POACH- ING, SOIL EXHAUSTION AND SOIL EROSION UN SAYS VERY LIKELY TO MEET MDG GOALS IN THIS AREA.
