1. Rihanna is a very mainstream R’n’B artist.
Within the primary optical area of this
picture of Rihanna we see her bright red
hair. By her having such a vibrant hair
colour such as red the connotations of it are
danger and shows she stands out from the
crowd just as she does with her songs. She
also uses her body language by biting her lip
and having hold of the drumsticks it makes
the image provocative and ties in with her
type of songs as most of them are quite
sexual.
The Arctic Monkeys are indie rock bands
who as of late have become quite
mainstream. In this picture of the band the
rule of thirds is used. The primary optical
area makes the audience look at the top
right of the picture as there is just a white
background and whilst doing this it draws
their attention to the lead singer of the
band as not only is he in sharp focus he is
wearing a grey jacket unlike the rest of the
band who are in black. By the picture being
in black and white is portrays the traditional
authenticity of a rock band.

2. Mumford and Sons are a British folk rock
band. The rule of thirds is used in this
image as well as formal symmetry as there
are two men either side both of whom
have one carrying a guitar and one not. By
the light in the background shining
through next to the main singer of the
band it shows the audience who the lead
of the band is.
Madonna is a pop artist and icon. In this
image informal symmetry is used as she is
looking away from the camera and doing a
very “vogue” pose. By this image being
black and white it makes it seem very
sophisticated and elegant and by her
having the dark lipstick on and her hair
curly it could make the audience compare
her to Marilyn Monroe.

3. Beyoncé is a very mainstream is an
American singer, songwriter, record
producer, and actress. The sunlight shining
on her shows she’s quite a warm caring
person and by her staring right at the
camera it shows her confidence and that
she is focused on what she does. Formal
symmetry is used within this image as it’s
composed very classically which also
reinforces her natural beauty.
Lil Wayne is a mainstream R’n’B/rap artist.
The rule of thirds is used in this image as
it’s just plain white in the strong fallow
area. By him having no top on it shows all
his tattoos as well as makes his chains
stand out. This ties in with his image as the
connotation of tattoos shows rebellion
and that is what most of his songs are
about. Also by him smoking within the
image and him looking straight at the
camera it shows he doesn’t care what
people think.
