Preferred Reading: the preferred reading of east enders would be that
the producer would want the audience to relate to the people in
the soap, sympathising with the characters and having a personal
link with them, by understanding the bond of a community as well
as family.
Oppositional Reading: the oppositional reading for east enders could
be that the audience doesn't have a connection with the characters,
there are no similar feeling/bonds which link the audience and
characters/show.
Negotiated Reading: a negotiated reading could be that the audience
identify to some of the characters and the show but don't fully link
with it.
Different audiences may be positioned slightly differently by the text,
so for example audiences of different cultures and background will
feel to be positioned in a different way.
