students in the schools of
Turkey. As a result, there
are not sufficient numbers

6. Super Talented students are the ones who performs
higher level in intelligence, creativity, arts, leadership and
special academic lesssons when compared to their peers.
Their differ from other students in faster learning ability,
good memory, curiosity, interest in reading good
language, maturity, leadership and problem solving.
According to studies of TÜBİTAK (2009), there are
682.000 hish IQ individuals in Turkey under the age of 24
There are some projects and private schools in the
function of support classes for super-talented students in
Turkey (such as TEVİTÖL) but there are not public schools.
Some intelligence tests are used to detect these children
such as IQ tests but these tests need to be improved
because these methods can only see the intelligence
qualities of the children like mathematical, kinesthetic
intelligence etc. rather than their interests.
7. Today’s most reliable detection and method
is setting up a creative learning environment
in which the child has a chance to find out
his/her talents and interests and this method
also enables the child to improve their skills.
In Turkey, these children are detected
through the methods which are the teacher’s
notice, talent tests and individual intelligence
tests.
In order to detect super-talented students,
much more extensive studies and more
oportunities are needed.

21. As a conclusion of our survey,
We revealed that students can’t spare time for
their interests and talents outside school due to
their exams and overloaded homework.
In our education system interests and talents are
not given enough importance.
Most people think that system is the root cause
of this problem.
Only a few people are aware of the schools for
gifted children. They know about BİLSEM and
TEVİTÖL.
22. Tevitöl is an institution that gives special
education to special students. It was founded
by Sezai Türkeş in 1993 and has been
providing education with the help of Turkish
Education Foundation since 2001.
23. Bilsem is a special institution which provides
students in pre-schools, primary schools and
secondary schools with the opportunity of
improving their special talents at the same
time.(http://mebk12.meb.gov.tr/meb_iys_dosyalar/03/01/879440/icerikler/bilsem-nedir_34201.html)

24. Our education system is not qualified enough
to detect gifted children.
Exam-based education prevent children from
giving importance to their own interests and
focusing on their talents.
Some parents don’t support their children
about their interests and talents due to the
environmental causes such as insufficient job
opportunities.
25. Also some parents think that school courses
are much more important than students’
interests and talents.
The exams, especially university entrance
exam, prevent students from sparing time for
their interests and talents.
There are some schools for gifted children
but they’re not common in our country so
that many people don’t know about them.
Even though there are such schools, they are
inefficient unless the special students can be
detected.
26. CHP İstanbul Milletvekili Nur Serter:
"Gerçekçi olalım, bu okul sisteminde nasıl
tanılama yapılacak? Çocuklarımızın
yeteneklerini göstereceği derslerimiz ya yok
ya çok yetersiz. Engelli öğrencilere katkı
verdiğimiz kadar üstün yetenekli
çocuklarımıza niye katkı vermiyoruz?
Türkiye'nin geleceği için üstün yetenekli
çocuklar kazanılmalı.“

27. In order for children to explore their talents;
The music, arts and sports courses should be
increased in schools. Apart from these courses, lab
courses should be put into the education system.
Materials for arts, sports and science should be
available for all students in all schools so that
students can discover their talents.
Instutions for gifted children should be increased in
number and should be more common throughout
Turkey.
These institutions should be made familiar to families
by distributing brochures or giving seminars.
Students should be led to selective courses at school
according to their interests and talents.
