The course enables staff to develop plans to respond, based on best-practice guidelines. HOPE ran from 20-24 June 2011 at the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital (KSFH*), on Boulevard Yothapol Khemarak Phoum, Phnom Penh. HOPE’s vital skills training will support Cambodian participants in planning for hospital disaster preparedness, understanding the building and equipment safety in disasters, managing mass casualties, coordinating with emergency services and authorities, effective communications for public health, as well as other disaster management skills. Cambodia is prone to frequent natural disasters such as flash flooding and typhoons. As many as 100,000 people were affected by typhoon Ketsana which coincided with annual floods in late September and early October 2009. Sociological disasters also occur, such as the stampede at the November 2010 Water Festival in Phnom Penh, in which hundreds of celebrants tragically died. > More info - www.adpc.net/peer
