1. Scores on the Doors:
What does this mean for businesses?
2. The Food Standards Agency has
a statutory objective to protect
public health & consumers' other
interests in relation to food & drink.
It is with this objective in mind
that they have introduced the
âScores on the Doorsâ system.
3. Scores on the Doors is a hygiene
rating system used by local authorities
to determine how food outlets store,
handle & prepare the food they
distribute to the public.
Restaurants, pubs, cafes, takeaways,
hotels, supermarkets & any other food
shops are also included in the scheme.
What is Scores on the Doors?
4. Inspectors from the Food Standards Agency
visit premises that supply food to the public
& rate them on their standards.
The inspection looks at all aspects of what
it takes to provide a good, quality service to
the public & therefore looks at not just
food preparation & service but the
environment in which it is prepared.
How does it work?
5. What happens next?
Based on the findings of the inspection the
food safety officer from the businessâs local
authority will issue a âhygiene ratingâ the
rating reflects the standards of food hygiene
found on the date of inspection or visit
by the local authority.
The food hygiene rating is not a
guide to food quality.
