2. Introduction
• NFC word stands for Near Field Communication
• NFC is one of the latest wireless communication
technologies. As a short-range wireless connectivity
technology, NFC offers safe yet simple and intuitive
communication between NFC enabled electronic
devices.
• Enables the exchange of data between devices
over a distance of up to 20 centimeters.
3. • NFC-enabled devices can simply point or touch
their making application and data usage easy and
convenient.
• Nokia is active in the area of NFC since 2004
• Together with Philips and Sony, founded the NFC
Forum.
• Currently, global membership in the NFC Forum had
exceeded 140 organizations.
4. What’s the use?
•
Sharing – Data, photos, web links
•
Pairing – Making a connection between
equipment no need for passwords.
•
Transaction – Pay for anything
5. nfc tag
• simple electronic devices
• contain an antenna and a small amount of
memory
• Passive and powered by a magnetic field
6. Works How
• NFC operates in two modes
• Active Mode: In this mode, both devices are generating their
own RF fields. This would be in the case that two mobile
devices are being used to exchange data.
• Passive Mode: In this mode, one of the devices generates the
RF field and the other device uses the field to power itself and
communicate. The active device is usually the “reader” and
the passive device is the “tag”.
• NFC is based on RFID technology that uses magnetic field
induction to enable communication between electronic
devices in close proximity. NFC operates at 13.56 MHz
• For two devices to communicate using NFC, one device must
have an NFC reader/writer and one must have an NFC tag.
The tag is essentially an integrated circuit containing data,
connected to an antenna, that can read and written by the
reader.
7. Uses nfc
•
Access Control: Replacing traditional keys for either physical access
(hotel room) or control (starting a car)
•
Ticketing: Replacing paper tickets for social events and public
transportation
•
Contactless Payments: Mobile payments debited from financial or MNO
linked accounts
•
Interactive World: Marketing and exchange of information such as
schedules, maps, business card and coupon delivery using NFC
Marketing tags
•
Media Sharing: Transfer images, videos, music between mobile phones
•
Social media e.g. "Like" on Facebook, "Follow" on Twitter via NFC smart
stickers in retail stores
8.
9. Benefits
• Intuitive – NFC interactions require no more than a simple
touch
• Versatile – NFC is ideally suited to the broadest range of
industries, environments, and uses
• Open and standards-based - The underlying layers of NFC
technology follow universally implemented standards
• Technology-enabling - NFC facilitates fast and simple setup of
wireless technologies, such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, etc.
• Inherently secure - NFC transmissions are short range (from a
touch to a few centimetres)
• Interoperable – NFC works with existing contactless card
technologies
• Security-ready - NFC has built-in capabilities to support secure
applications
Editor's Notes
Let me introduce you what’s nfc
7:30 - Eric gets on a train to go to his office, using his NFC-enabled phone to tap a reader and easily open the turnstile.7:32 - He sees a poster announcing a free concert that evening. He touches his NFC-enabled phone to the N-Mark on the poster, which transfers the detailed information onto his phone. He reserves seats for the concert with his mobile phone, using mobile communications (e.g., SMS, internet, packet-based connections), and the complimentary tickets are sent to his mobile phone. He sends a text message to his wife to invite her to the concert and dinner.8:15 - When he arrives at his office, Eric touches his NFC-enabled phone to the office gate to unlock the security mechanism.Noon - At lunch time, he pays for his meal using one of the credit cards stored in his phone.13:00 - After lunch, Eric visits the office of his new business partner for a meeting. Those attending the meeting exchange electronic business cards, stored in their NFC-enabled phones, by touching their phones together.18:00 - Eric meets his wife and they go to the concert venue. He touches his NFC-enabled phone to a turnstile at the entrance to the venue, their reservations are confirmed, and they are admitted.20:00 - After the concert, they visit a shopping center, where they make a few purchases and have dinner, using their NFC-enabled phones to pay for everything.22:00 - When they arrive home, Eric realizes that he left his NFC-enabled phone on the train. He immediately calls the mobile network operator and makes a request to disable all active NFC services in the phone. If his phone is later found and returned to him, he will be able to reactivate these services.
