O Taking a naturally occurring stimulus and
pairing it to a specific response.
O Mouth waters from eating salad with Italian
dressing, after enough times of eating the
salad with the Italian dressing, mouth waters
at sight of the dressing.
O The mouth watering while eating Italian dressing
is the natural stimulus
O The mouth watering is the conditioned stimulus
O The mouth watering while just looking at Italian
dressing is the conditioned response.
4. Operant Conditioning
O Also known as instrumental conditioning
O Behavior learned through rewards and
punishments, associations made between
praises and consequences.
O Child cries for candy bar at grocery store:
O If mother gives the child the candy bar to stop
the crying, the child associates crying with
reward
O The child will probably continue to cry for
desired items expecting the same result.
