1. 1.3 Class Activity 1M-Finding
Decimals Between Decimals
1. Work with a partner and take turns giving your
partner a pair of decimals and challenging
him/her to find a decimal in between your pair.
Start with 1.2 & 1.4
Goal: to stump your partner!
* There aren’t any whole numbers between 2 and 3,
but there are plenty of decimals between 2 and 3. If
you are given two decimals, will there always be
another decimals between the two? Are there some
decimals that don’t have any other decimals in
between them?
2. 1.3 Class Activity 1L: Finding
Smaller and Smaller Decimals
Work with a partner and take turns listing
decimals, each of which is greater than 2 but
less than the previous decimals that was listed.
Ex: 2.3 – 2.2 - 2.1 and so forth.
Goal: to find a decimal such that your partner
won’t be able to find a decimal that is smaller
than yours but greater than 2.
Each person should list at least six decimals.
* The number 3 is the smallest whole number that is
greater than 2. But is there a smallest decimal that is
greater than 2? If so what is it? If not, why not?
