2. THE TASKS
During this unit on Romeo and Juliet you will we asked to
create two pieces of assessment:
A 10-12 minutes radio play of R&J for a Year 11 audience
A group oral
Both of these tasks require an effective use of GROUPWORK
for you to be successful.
3. WHY GROUPWORK?
Students learn best when they are actively
involved in the process.
Researchers report that, regardless of the subject
matter, students working in small groups tend to
learn more of what is taught and retain it longer
than when the same content is presented in other
instructional formats.
Students who work in collaborative groups also
appear more satisfied with their classes.
4. GROUP WORK
EXPECTATIONS
For your task on the Radio play you will be taught the
skills required AND you will be assessed as a group
on your final product.
It is important that to work well in your team and
learn skills that allow you to discuss, create, analyse
and synthesise the text of R&J.
In addition, you will be asked to discuss the process
you went through in this unit, in a Group Oral,
although you will be assessed individually on your
contributions to the group discussion.
5. THE PROCESS
If your teacher has not yet done so, you will be given a Team
Work Quiz to fill in about your group work experiences.
From this you will be assigned a group to work with.
We will spend time each lesson allowing you to get to know
your group’s strengths and weaknesses and setting small
tasks so you can start to develop your skills when working
with each other.
6. STEPS TO CREATING A
GREAT GROUP!
Below are a list of activities that your teacher will ask you to
complete during the following few lessons:
Firstly, spend some time with your group establishing how
each of you works best, how you tend to work with others
and how you would like to work with others. Knowing one
another well as learners will help when allocating tasks and
roles.
Setting your ground rules.
7. Defining roles and responsibilities
Having a trial go at working together
How to manage conflict
8. Be sure that you work hard at making your group work
effectively as you will be working together for the entire unit.
You ARE in it together!
Good luck!
