Shimano Mountain Bike Shoes
Isn’t it depressing watching riders with good bike shoes by you without breaking a sweat? Are
they that much more fit than you are, or do their shoes really make that much difference?
When I purchased my Shimano shoes, I found out that yes, real bike shoes really do make a
major difference. Now that I have my feet solidly locked in, it is like my bicycle suddenly has a
motor. It really helps when you have rigid soles that transfer all your energy and power to the
pedal rather than letting flimsy soles dissipate that power.
The thought of having my shoes locked in used to make me a bit nervous. It just didn’t seem
safe. But after a guy at work convinced me to try out the new cleat positioner cap system on his
mountain bike, I was addicted. I could hardly believe how simple that system made my
transition to cleats. It’s really a terrific system.
Even though I primarily ride on the road, I got Shimano SH-MT33L mountain bike shoes, largely
because of the positioner cap and the fact that they are good for walking in. This makes them
great for commuting, which is another reason why I purchased them, because my job is six
miles away and I wanted to get a little more exercise.
I also love the way these cycling and running tights look. They can pass for casual shoes,
another reason they’re good for commuting. I think some of the road shoes out there look silly,
with their aggressive styling. That’s okay for touring, maybe, but absolutely not for commuting.
And I didn’t like the idea of walking around in road shoes.
I also like to tour sometimes, and these shoes are good for that. They’re a tad bit heavier than
the high-end models, but I couldn’t see forking over an extra $50 to save a few ounces.
Another superb thing about my cycling shoes is that they breathe so well. Even on 85-degree
days, my feet don’t sweat in them.
It would be good if the cleats were a little more recessed, so they wouldn’t make noise while
you're walking. But so far, no one has commented on it, and I haven’t seen a bike shoe that
doesn’t click when you walk.

2. Over-all, they’re a terrific value, and I’d recommend them to everyone. Except Harvey. I don’t
want that creep wearing the same cycling jerseys as me.
When I showed them to my girlfriend, she went out and purchased a pair of Shimano SH-WM50
mountain bike tyres, in black to match mine. She fell in love with them right away. (I have to
admit, I was a little jealous). She uses them for mountain bicycling and spinning.
She wanted me to warn folks to be careful if youbuy them online, because the sizing system is a
little out of whack. But she says they’re comfy for walking in and she’s excited about their
performance. And because her feet are narrow, she likes how tightly she can cinch her shoes
up.
She likes having “SPD” written on the front of the shoe because she says it stands for Sexy,
Pretty Damsel. And even if I thought otherwise, I wouldn’t argue the point.
