This document provides an introduction and overview of the children's book "Owl Moon" by Jane Yolen. It discusses pictures from the book that show a child spending quality time with an adult. It then summarizes the story, which takes place on a winter night as a father and daughter go on a walk in the forest looking for an owl, encountering other animals along the way as they search. The introduction encourages children to think of a special experience they had with someone in their life.
7. Lastly, look at this picture from
the book…what do you think is
happening here?
8. What do you think these pictures
have in common?
9. All these pictures show a
child with a special
grown up spending some
quality time together
10. Alright, boys and girls, now I am
going to talk to you about that
special book…
11. This story takes place on a cold
wintry night in the deep, dark
forest. The magnificent moon
shines brightly on the wet, white
snow. A father and his daughter
go for a long walk in search of an
owl. They walk past a bunch of
animals: a fox, a raccoon, a
mouse and a deer. The animals
stare at them. They are cold and
may be even a little scared, but
determined to see the owl. The
father calls out for the owl…whoo
whoo whoo! But will the owl ever
answer? Read the book and find
out!
12. Now, I want you to close your eyes and
take a deep breath. Can you
remember a time when you did
something special with your mom, dad,
grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle or
another special person in your life?
