2. QUITO
Quito is located in the northern
highlands of Ecuador in the
Guayllabamba river basin. The city
has been built on a long plateau
lying on the east flanks of the
Pichincha volcano. The valley of
Guayllabamba River where Quito
lies is flanked by volcanoes, some
of them snow-capped, that can be
visible from the city on a clear day.
Quito is the closest capital city to
the equator.
3. Quito a place to travel
Exist several platforms along the
valley of Guayllabamba, connected
among if by invisible lines that
creates an authentic astronomical
observatory and also they have a
great cultural astronomical
complex at Cochasqui piramyds
The great extension of their
equivalent colonial helmet to 188

4. Quito has a population of 2,671,191 according
to the last census (2014), Quito is the second
most populous city in Ecuador, after Guayaquil. It is also the
capital of the Pichincha province and the seat of the
Metropolitan District of Quito.

cultural diversity in Quito.

Quito, along with Kraków, were the
first World Cultural Heritage Sites
declared by UNESCO in 1978.
Quito has a subtropical
highland climate.
Quito is the second largest city in
contribution to national GDP after
Guayaquil, and the second highest in
per capita income after Cuenca.
6. Food
Ecuadorian food is well known for its
diversity in ingredients and the really
good taste.
The typical food restaurants in Quito have
in their menu dishes such as seafood from
the Coast, potatoes and mote from the
Sierra, fish from Galapagos and guanta
from the Amazonas. So anyway what you
find is a great variety and different tastes.
7. The best choice to get the authentic
typical food is to go to the valleys around
Quito, and go to one of the many
restaurants that you can find around. You
can get really tasty dishes at really low
prices; this is the case of Vicente's at
Middle of theWorld.
You can get it from $ 1.00 up to $ 5.00.
Prices will depend because of the place
and the quality. Also there are really
expensive restaurants of Ecuadorian
cuisine, which are La Choza, La Ronda, or
La Casa de a lado.
8. • Transportation
Quito is a long narrow city, 8km long by 5km wide, which is why
it is easy to identify the central zone (the historic district), the
South (where most of the city's inhabitants live, and the North
(where the majority of tourist services are found)

(Articulated Bus Red Line)
Metrobús
(Articulated Bus Blue,
Brown and Light Blue lines).
9. • Quito Cultural Attractions
The old cultures of Quito discovered the astronomic
and metaphysical value of the middle of the earth
800 or 900 years before the arrival of the French
geodesic mission in the 18th century.
10. • Historical Center
Quito is teeming with incredible monuments,
churches, plazas and natural wonders to visit.
With restaurants, bars, parks and entertainment too, Quito
has a seemingly endless number of amazing things to do,
enjoy, see and learn about.
Evening strolls in the city take you past colonial masterpieces,
historical sites, cultural hotspots and pictures Andean sunsets
11. • Middle of the world
Did you know that Quito is at the middle of the world? Yes, its
latitude is 0-0’-0’’ , which makes this city, and the country itself,
unique. During the XVIII century, a geodesic mission from France
worked for eight years to determine where the equatorial line
crossed, and in 1836 built a monument at that very site.
City of the Middle of the World, was built in the Parish of San
Antonio, and is located in the Ethnographic Museum of Quito.
