Media Life is a course intended for undergraduate students across campus. Its goal is to make people aware of the role that media play in their everyday life. The key to understanding a "media life" is to see our lives not as lived WITH media (which would lead to a focus on media effects and media-centric theories of society), but rather IN media (where the distinction between what we do with and without media dissolves).

EY and the Forum dâAvignon have been working jointly to bring these spheres together since 2008, developing ways for the artistic and creative industries to respond to the critical issues that confront them. EYâs widely-recognized expertise and experience in the sector provides major lessons and concrete solutions to the industryâs challenges. Year after year, the Forum dâAvignon and EY have observed and interpreted the forces at work in the cultural field as it is swept by a digital revolution that has redistributed power amidst an ever-changing fiscal landscape. As AI and Automation are rapidly altering approaches to the production of goods and delivery of services, there are many implications for labour markets around the world. These changes are having significant impacts on job availability, type and quality in the global economyâeradicating certain jobs while creating new ones, and demanding new skills from employees worldwide. Just as these forces can be powerful drivers of business opportunities and improved well-being, they can also present a host of risks for people and business.

Lecture slides used in the Level 3 MAC301 module. Starts by framing common attitudes to global media ownership by drawing on political economy (globalisation, Americanisation, McDomination, etc). Goes on to consider the emergence of disruptive media organisations threatening the established hegemony. Sets this against the background of creativity and creative uses of media forms in order to question how valid the certainties of globalisation are.

The ability of the present-day human to be fully aware of whatâs happening in every corner of the globe owes its possibility to the efficient mechanisms operated by the transnational media corporations. For more than a century, these entities have progressively expanded worldwide thus impacting every human life with the aid of the advanced communication systems technologies such as cable, digital, satellite, and the internet that were developed in the twentieth century. It can be well said that these technologies powered up the rise, growth, and extension of transnational media corporations because they enabled them to seamlessly develop high-quality content and distribute it worldwide in real-time. This presentation is aimed at explaining the scope of this phenomenon, the entities behind it, and how such transformations have promoted global communication and at the same time it explores the criticism they face regarding their ownership, content generation and coverage. In this presentation, we also observe that the success of TMCâs lie in the billion-dollar investments, mergers, and acquisitions which have seen them combine resources with their rivals to dominate and influence the global media market â a result which has not been without disapproval from the media critics and scholars. The review questions at the end of the presentation let us ponder over the inquisitive concerns related to what is covered herein.
