The TIGER project is a consortium project at the Universities of Northampton, Leicester and De Montfort and is funded by JISC and the Higher Education Academy
 The TIGER project will collect, develop and share reusable, customisable Open Educational Resources (OERs) What’s TIGER

Educational materials and resources offered freely and openly for anyone to use and under some licences to re-mix, improve and redistribute.’ (Wikipedia) The OER explosion !......but what are they ?
Blackboard as repository hub ?
“Following the exploration of functionality 'around' the VLE, the functionality within the VLE began to be seen by some as too limited and restrictive. The rise of social media suggested that an alternative could be constructed out of various existing web tools by individual teachers and learners. The PLE discussion captured that idea and pros, cons and models are still vigorously examined.   1. The TIGER project (www.northampton.ac.uk/tiger) is providing institutions with new Open Educational Resources and contributing to the range of material already available to the community. This presentation will discuss the challenges for embedding and exporting content with Blackboard and the use of CAIeRO events to provide a seamless student experience.
  2. OERs or RLOs have been in use since at least 2002 (MIT) if not earlier.
  3. Blackboard is acting as a repository for information in many institutions – an area where material may be located and then staff provide a path through this or allow the student to develop their own navigation.Blackboard should ideally allow for staff to repurpose material and republish it back to repositories – interoperability issues ?SCORM stands for “Sharable Content Object Reference Model”.“Sharable Content Object” indicates that SCORM is all about creating units of online training material that can be shared across systems. SCORM defines how to create “sharable content objects” or “SCOs” that can be reused in different systems and contexts.
  4. A few years ago the concept of the PLE was being actively explored and muted as being the death of the VLE. More recently we are seeing the VLEs changing to adapt to new ways of working and interoperability. Students are valuing the central point (or hub) of the VLE to access material.Restricting the import and export of content and hence, limited the faculty, gives ammunition to those arguing for a change in the systems – suppliers need to ‘shout’ about how their systems may be linked into a wide range of resources and systems.

Found that we needed to add extra code to improve stability – a single text character (the full stop) at the start seemed to help Bb work with the iframe along with embedding the code in paragraph tags.What does SCORM stand for?SCORM stands for “Sharable Content Object Reference Model”.“Sharable Content Object” indicates that SCORM is all about creating units of online training material that can be shared across systems. SCORM defines how to create “sharable content objects” or “SCOs” that can be reused in different systems and contexts.“Reference Model” reflects the fact that SCORM isn’t actually a standard. ADL didn’t write SCORM from the ground up. Instead, they noticed that the industry already had many standards that solved part of the problem.   6. Those who were observant would have noticed the one way arrow on the title slide from the TIGER repository into Blackboard. Perhaps a better model for the future is to have Bb as a central hub which allows material to be remixed / repurposed and then republished. Allows for material development / improvement.The CAIeRO process (Creating Aligned and Interactive Educational Resource Opportunities) is helping staff spend time to explore the process of finding resources and then repurposing them in such a way that they can be reused by others.
