Applying Behavior Change

Challenge



The challenge is to change our environment in such a
way that supports better health
Approach

Healy, G. N. et al. 2008.
“Breaks in sedentary time:
beneficial associations with
metabolic risk”
Approach: Sitting Less

                          have a
 Adults who sit less throughout the day

 lower risk of early death
 particularly from cardiovascular
 disease (CVD).

Warning: Before


 The room is pretty messy
 because I essentially had to
 dump two boxes onto my couch
 to make the standing desk.
After

 I created a standing desk where I used to have a
 repository of stuff I would never touch
 I moved some of my photography equipment to the
 main desk, because it acts as triggers for me to go
 outside and take photos.
 I removed my chair entirely.
Results!

Some other changes

I moved all the sweets into a cabinet
that is harder to reach. I also divided
the sweets and candies I had into
sweet and salty, with the saltier items
further up (and farther away).
After

 I created a standing desk where I used to have a
 repository of stuff I would never touch
 I moved some of my photography equipment to the
 main desk, because it acts as triggers for me to go
 outside and take photos.
 I removed my chair entirely.
Some other changes

Some of the healther staples like rice,
tea and flour which used to occupy that
cabinet space are now more visible and
easier to reach.
After

 I created a standing desk where I used to have a

Lastly
 One last (minor) change I
 made was to make my
 toothbrush more prominent
 in my bathroom - as a result
 I noticed I was more keen
 on keeping the toothbrush
 completely clean, and also
 to use it more often.
