How to Choose a Weight Loss Program You Can Stick With
1. How to Choose a Weight Loss Program You Can Stick With
If you’re a person like me who gives in to temptation easily, diets can be hard to stick with.
For me, just a tiny, fleeting thought of a warm and gooey chocolate brownie is enough to
make me drool until I surrender. I’ve been through many cycles of remorse, guilt and
determination to start over again. It’s taken a while but I’ve finally achieved my weight loss
goals and managed to maintain my optimal weight for well over a year now! So for all those
dieters who want to increase their chances of finding the right weight loss plan and sticking
to it, here are a few tips to steer you in the right direction.
Choose a weight loss plan that:
Blends in with your lifestyle. In other words, it should be a program that can easily fit into
the way you spend your time and money, your work and social interactions. A good weight
loss diet will be one which is easy to integrate into your lifestyle.
Gives you feedback on your progress. Without feedback, you might be at risk of losing
focus or maybe even doing things that might damage your health. Even a remote online
weight coaching program can be good to keep track of your progress.
Does not make you feel like you are being deprived. A good weight loss plan is one that
gives room for reward and pleasure. In fact, too many restrictions make you crave the food
you can’t have! A study from Tufts University reveals that sometimes it’s okay to surrender
to a craving as long as you practice portion control.1
Includes exercise. Common sense will tell you that a weight loss diet should be
accompanied by exercise. Yet so many people who diet forget this. A good weight loss
program should give you a diet that provides enough energy and nutrition to sustain the
exercise that is recommended for you.
Suits your personality. If you choose something that does not go well with the way you
enjoy doing things, you might get bored soon and drop out. For example, if you are a person
who is outgoing, then choose a program that allows for social interaction like group aerobics
or even walking with friends or family.
Suits your monthly grocery budget. It should be realistic in terms of expenses.
Does not leave you stressed out. Have you ever tried a diet where you have to worry about
counting every calorie you consume? You’ll know how frustrated you can end up feeling.
Choose a weight loss program where you don’t need to waste time making calculations and
don’t end up feeling deprived or frustrated.
Gives you all the nutrition you need. There are so many types of diets out there: low-fat
diets, low-carb diets, high-protein diets, low-calorie diets—the list is endless. You need to be
careful when choosing a diet. They may be great ways to lose weight but your diet plan
should include a weight loss maintenance program, too. You need to keep the weight off
and a good diet program will also include a plan for permanent weight loss.
2. Is approved by your doctor. You may want to get advice from your doctor before starting
your diet, especially if you have a health condition such as diabetes or heart disease. The
doctor may want you to undergo your diet under medical supervision. There are several
diets, like the Dukan Diet, that take into consideration special conditions such as these.
Once you’ve found a diet that you are comfortable with, enjoy it! Yes! It is important to
choose a weight loss plan you enjoy! I know that’s hard to swallow but the more you enjoy
the food and the exercise you do, the more likely you are to stick to your diet. There are
new diets that we hear about almost every day! Many of these are based on scientific
principles and a strong understanding of how food works in the body. The best part is you
don’t have to starve yourself. These diets allow you to eat as much as you want from the list
of foods that is given. To sum it up, it’s not hard to find a weight loss plan that you can stick
with. A good plan, accountability, and a good dose of motivation and determination all play
a role in achieving your desired weight loss goals. Good luck!
