Have you thought about your online profile? There are so many options that will help you to get found and network with others (e.g. LinkedIn, Academia.edu, ResearchGate and more). But where do you start? Do you know what option(s) will be the right fit for you, your objectives and your research? This presentation will prime you to make informed decisions about building your profile on social/research networking sites and discuss the benefits for researchers in having an online presence. This was co-presentation ECU's Senior Research Services Librarian and I planned to deliver for a Research Network Series, expanding and updating our original presentation during ECU's Research Week 2013. Change management intervened and with the new Research Services Librarian only in place for a couple I weeks, I ended up delivering it solo with her blessing.

Open Badges are gaining acceptance as eCredentials by educators, professional bodies and employers around the world because they enable better ways to map, recognize and share learning, including informal learning. Quality Open Badges are trustable tokens of skills and achievements that can be shared in e-portfolios, talent pipelines and social media. Open Badges are modular and “stackable”: they can be linked together into flexible development pathways and can support Competency Based Education and learning transfer. This fast-paced presentation lores global practices in Open Badge systems using living examples and case studies, inside and outside formal education.

The big data revolution is an exciting opportunity for universities, which typically have rich and complex digital data on their learners. It has motivated many universities around the world to invest in the development and implementation of learning analytics dashboards (LADs). These dashboards commonly make use of interactive visualisation widgets to assist educators in understanding and making informed decisions about the learning process. A common operation in analytical dashboards is a ‘drill-down’, which in an educational setting allows users to explore the behaviour of sub-populations of learners by progressively adding filters. Nevertheless, drill-down challenges exist, which hamper the most effective use of the data, especially by users without a formal background in data analysis. Accordingly, in this paper, we address this problem by proposing an approach that recommends insightful drill-downs to LAD users. We present results from an application of our proposed approach using an existing LAD. A set of insightful drill-down criteria from a course with 875 students are explored and discussed.

This presentation was given at the 2012 AECT Conference. It discusses how to evaluate and select a Learning Management System (LMS) based upon an organization’s needs and learning goals. This presentation illustrates how to identify the learning needs of an organization, compare these needs with available LMSs, select potential LMS options, and evaluate these options based upon a presenter-provided rubric. It also shares emerging trends with Learning Management Systems.

Discover the Kisan Call Centre: Your Gateway to Agricultural Assistance KISAN CALL CENTRE In order to harness the potential of ICT in Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare launched the scheme “Kisan Call Centres” (KCCs) on January 21, 2004. Main aim of the scheme is to answer farmers’ queries on a telephone call in their own language. These call centres are working in 21 different locations in the country covering all the States and UTs. A countrywide common eleven digit Toll Free Number 1800-180-1551 has been allotted for Kisan Call Centre. This number is accessible through mobile phones and landlines of all telecom networks including private service providers. Replies to the farmers’ queries are given in 22 local languages. Kisan Call Centre services are available from 6.00 AM to 10.00 PM on all seven days of the week at each KCC location. Kisan Call Centre agents known as Farm Tele Advisors (FTAs), who are graduate or above (i.e. PG or Doctorate) in Agriculture or allied sectors (Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Poultry, Bee-Keeping, Sericulture, Aquaculture, Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Marketing, Bio-Technology, Home Science, etc.) and possess excellent communication skills in respective local language. Queries which cannot be answered by FTAs are transferred to higher level experts. These experts are Subject Matter Specialists (SMSs) of State Departments of Agriculture (SDAs), ICAR Institutes, KVKs and State Agricultural Universities (SAUs). A Kisan Knowledge Management System (KKMS) has been developed to capture all the details of the caller and sending gist of answer given through SMS. KKMS has its independent website : http://dackkms.gov.in. The KCC, FTAs working at various KCC locations throughout the country have access to this website through their specific IDs and password provided to them.
