Editor's Notes
West Grove Presbyterian Church , the friendliest church around, is striving to Know Christ and Make Christ Known. We are growing not only in numbers, but also in our compassion and care as we deepen our faith in Jesus Christ. Pastor Charlie and your Session want to share our “state of the union” with you! We believe that we are poised to leap into a vibrant future of compassion and care, so want to share what that looks like.
Currently we are coming off the typical “summer doldrums” when travel and vacations take us away from our mission in West Grove. Due to that, we are experiencing a deficit of $24,000. We are taking a close look at all of our expenses and will be the best possible stewards, but have a ways to go. Our Youth leader, Lisa Murphy, is renting the manse, so we will have a bit more income in the Fall. Our dream is to have a positive year-to-date number rather than a deficit.
Here are the major expense items for us as we go forward. We are building a great team and certainly wish to continue building our capacity. One important thing to note on this slide is that the Presbytery of Donegal has given us a gift in bolstering the pastor’s pay by $8000 for this year. The total pastor’s pay package, including benefits and expenses (at the Presbytery minimum) is $76,000.
Finally, here is what the Session and Trustees have on their wish list. We desperately need a new roof on the Christian Education building at a cost of $17,000. The second item that we have to do is to fix the moldy Christian Education stairway. This is affecting our health. The third item is to either repair or replace our organ. Either option costs about $60,000. At the end of this presentation, we’d love to hear your music preference and your feelings about having excellent organ music to enhance our worship. The next priority is a central vacuum system for the church, new flooring for the Christian Education building and a better storage solution in the CE building. Finally, we would love to paint the sanctuary. The bottom line is that for our ministry to grow and thrive, we would love to be provided with $125,000 for the above repairs. Given that, we would be poised to excel into God’s abundant and life-giving future. Will you pray about your part in this important ministry? Let’s examine some paths forward and then open it up for discussion.
Your leadership team is open to the Holy Spirit’s guidance in making our ministry thrive. As part of our discernment process, we’d love to hear your ideas on funding these needs. As we come together as the compassionate and caring body of Christ at West Grove, how shall we approach meeting our current expenses as well as our Capital needs? Shall we embark on a capital campaign for $125,000? Given that this is our 125 th year of ministry in West Grove, it has a nice ring to it. Do we enough interest and passion around excellent organ music to make this major investment? Let’s open up a dialogue around these issues and hear what the Spirit is saying to us and through us. Thank-you!
