Editor's Notes

  1. Cover Page
  2. This model comes to us from the ELCA from Dr. Alicia VargasOnce evangelism was shifted to a department (as in the national structure) or a committee (as in the local congregation), it became a specialized task and not the responsibility of the whole. The model on the left—Churches are “Communities of Care” laity pay for services…people are membersThe model on the right—Churches are Centers of training and nurture which produce “missionaries of grace.” Members grow into their vocation. They move from volunteer to minister, missionary. Advent operates under this model as evidenced by the “Daubert Report” in which many members assume that Advent will do well once they find the “right” pastor.
  3. That’s less than 500 people between both churches! Surely we can garner 30 unique adult members by September 30 given the population between Sylvania Township, Sylvania and Toledo.
  4. Prayer life as a church We need to have monthly prayer as we ask God’s will for Advent Monthly healing servicesShortage of Time: June 2010 we will enter year three of the loanNegativity:
  5. We are thrown back onto great commandment, the great commission and our purpose statementGreat Commandment“You shall love the Lord Your God will all your heart and mind, and with all of your soul and your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second one is like it: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Matthew 22: 36a-40Great CommissionJesus Says, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember that I am with you until the end of the age.” Matthew 28:17-20And our purpose statement
  6. A Sports Coach has one goal each game—to win! The objective or how he or she goes about it different (the strategy) but the goal remains the same. 84 is the magic number—at least eighty-four contacts per month.Pastor Dave eats crow project. We need to be just as singular in our goal—to have 30 unique adults by September’s end. We will employ lots of strategies but our goal must be fixed—to have 30 unique adult members.Unique—folks who are new to Advent. We will welcome anyone who wants to join Advent but we are looking for new foks.
  7. If the average age of an adult in Sylvania is 38 years old. We can reasonably assume they have children of varying ages. To meet this goal we need to focus on family ministry.
  8. This adds the accountability component between Pastor and congregation.
